Exodus 1
1. Now these <0428> [are] the names <08034> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, which came <0935> into Egypt <04714>; every man <0376> and his household <01004> came <0935> with Jacob <03290>.
2 Reuben <07205>, Simeon <08095>, Levi <03878>, and Judah <03063>,
3 Issachar <03485>, Zebulun <02074>, and Benjamin <01144>,
4 Dan <01835>, and Naphtali <05321>, Gad <01410>, and Asher <0836>.
5 And all <03605> the souls <05315> that came <03318> out of the loins <03409> of Jacob <03290> were seventy <07657> souls <05315>: for Joseph <03130> was in Egypt <04714> [already].
6 And Joseph <03130> died <04191>, and all <03605> his brethren <0251>, and all <03605> that generation <01755>.
7 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> were fruitful <06509>, and increased <08317> abundantly <08317>, and multiplied <07235>, and waxed exceeding <03966> mighty <06105>; and the land <0776> was filled <04390> with them.
8. Now there arose <06965> up a new <02319> king <04428> over <05921> Egypt <04714>, which <0834> knew <03045> not Joseph <03130>.
9 And he said <0559> unto his people <05971>, Behold <02009>, the people <05971> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> [are] more <07227> and mightier <06099> than we:
10 Come <03051> on, let us deal wisely <02449> with them; lest <06435> they multiply <07235>, and it come <01961> to pass, that, when <03588> there falleth <07122> out any war <04421>, they join <03254> also <01571> unto our enemies <08130>, and fight <03898> against us, and [so] get <05927> them up out of the land <0776>.
11 Therefore they did set <07760> over <05921> them taskmasters to afflict <06031> them with their burdens <05450>. And they built <01129> for Pharaoh <06547> treasure <04543> cities <05892>, Pithom <06619> and Raamses <07486>.
12 But the more <03651> they afflicted <06031> them, the more <03651> they multiplied <07235> and grew <06555>. And they were grieved <06973> because <06440> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.
13 And the Egyptians <04714> made the children <01121> of Israel <03478> to serve <05647> with rigour <06531>:
14 And they made their lives <02416> bitter <04843> with hard <07186> bondage <05656>, in morter <02563>, and in brick <03843>, and in all <03605> manner of service <05656> in the field <07704>: all <03605> their service <05656>, wherein <0834> they made them serve <05647>, [was] with rigour <06531>.
15. And the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> spake <0559> to the Hebrew <05680> midwives <03205>, of which <0834> the name <08034> of the one <0259> [was] Shiphrah <08236>, and the name <08034> of the other <08145> Puah <06326>:
16 And he said <0559>, When ye do the office of a midwife <03205> to the Hebrew <05680> women, and see <07200> [them] upon the stools <070>; if it [be] a son <01121>, then ye shall kill <04191> him: but if it [be] a daughter <01323>, then she shall live <02425>.
17 But the midwives <03205> feared <03372> God <0430>, and did <06213> not as the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> commanded <01696> them, but saved <02421> the men children <03206> alive <02421>.
18 And the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> called <07121> for the midwives <03205>, and said <0559> unto them, Why <04069> have ye done <06213> this <02088> thing <01697>, and have saved <02421> the men children <03206> alive <02421>?
19 And the midwives <03205> said <0559> unto Pharaoh <06547>, Because <03588> the Hebrew <05680> women <0802> [are] not as the Egyptian <04713> women <0802>; for they [are] lively <02422>, and are delivered <03205> ere <02962> the midwives <03205> come <0935> in unto them.
20 Therefore God <0430> dealt well <03190> with the midwives <03205>: and the people <05971> multiplied <07235>, and waxed very <03966> mighty <06105>.
21 And it came <01961> to pass, because <03588> the midwives <03205> feared <03372> God <0430>, that he made <06213> them houses <01004>.
22 And Pharaoh <06547> charged <06680> all <03605> his people <05971>, saying <0559>, Every <03605> son <01121> that is born <03209> ye shall cast <07993> into the river <02975>, and every <03605> daughter <01323> ye shall save <02421> alive <02421>.
Exodus 2
1. And there went <03212> a man <0376> of the house <01004> of Levi <03878>, and took <03947> [to wife] a daughter <01323> of Levi <03878>.
2 And the woman <0802> conceived <02030>, and bare <03205> a son <01121>: and when <03588> she saw <07200> him that he [was a] goodly <02896> [child], she hid <06845> him three <07969> months <03391>.
3 And when <03588> she could <03201> not longer <05750> hide <06845> him, she took <03947> for him an ark <08392> of bulrushes <01573>, and daubed <02560> it with slime <02564> and with pitch <02203>, and put <07760> the child <03206> therein; and she laid <07760> [it] in the flags <05488> by the river's <02975> brink <08193>.
4 And his sister <0269> stood <03320> afar <07350> off, to wit <03045> what <04100> would be done <06213> to him.
5. And the daughter <01323> of Pharaoh <06547> came <03381> down <03381> to wash <07364> [herself] at <05921> the river <02975>; and her maidens <05291> walked <01980> along by the river's <02975> side <03027>; and when she saw <07200> the ark <08392> among <08432> the flags <05488>, she sent <07971> her maid <0519> to fetch <03947> it.
6 And when she had opened <06605> [it], she saw <07200> the child <03206>: and, behold <02009>, the babe <05288> wept <01058>. And she had compassion <02550> on <05921> him, and said <0559>, This <02088> [is one] of the Hebrews <05680>' children <03206>.
7 Then said <0559> his sister <0269> to Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323>, Shall I go <03212> and call <07121> to thee a nurse <03243> of the Hebrew <05680> women, that she may nurse <03243> the child <03206> for thee?
8 And Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323> said <0559> to her, Go <03212>. And the maid <05959> went <03212> and called <07121> the child's <03206> mother <0517>.
9 And Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323> said <0559> unto her, Take <03212> this <02088> child <03206> away, and nurse <03243> it for me, and I will give <05414> [thee] thy wages <07939>. And the woman <0802> took <03947> the child <03206>, and nursed <05134> it.
10 And the child <03206> grew <01431>, and she brought <0935> him unto Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323>, and he became <01961> her son <01121>. And she called <07121> his name <08034> Moses <04872>: and she said <0559>, Because <03588> I drew <04871> him out of the water <04325>.
11. And it came <01961> to pass in those <01992> days <03117>, when Moses <04872> was grown <01431>, that he went <03318> out unto his brethren <0251>, and looked <07200> on their burdens <05450>: and he spied <07200> an Egyptian <04713> smiting <05221> an Hebrew <05680>, one of his brethren <0251>.
12 And he looked <06437> this <03541> way <03541> and that way <03541>, and when he saw <07200> that [there was] no <0369> man <0376>, he slew <05221> the Egyptian <04713>, and hid <02934> him in the sand <02344>.
13 And when he went <03318> out the second <08145> day <03117>, behold <02009>, two <08147> men <0582> of the Hebrews <05680> strove <05327> together: and he said <0559> to him that did the wrong <07563>, Wherefore <04100> smitest <05221> thou thy fellow <07453>?
14 And he said <0559>, Who <04310> made <07760> thee a prince <08269> and a judge <08199> over <05921> us? intendest <0559> thou to kill <02026> me, as thou killedst <02026> the Egyptian <04713>? And Moses <04872> feared <03372>, and said <0559>, Surely <0403> this thing <01697> is known <03045>.
15 Now when Pharaoh <06547> heard <08085> this <02088> thing <01697>, he sought <01245> to slay <02026> Moses <04872>. But Moses <04872> fled <01272> from the face <06440> of Pharaoh <06547>, and dwelt <03427> in the land <0776> of Midian <04080>: and he sat <03427> down by a well <0875>.
16. Now the priest <03548> of Midian <04080> had seven <07651> daughters <01121>: and they came <0935> and drew <01802> [water], and filled <04390> the troughs <07298> to water <08248> their father's <01> flock <06629>.
17 And the shepherds <07462> came <0935> and drove <01644> them away: but Moses <04872> stood <06965> up and helped <03467> them, and watered <08248> their flock <06629>.
18 And when they came <0935> to Reuel <07467> their father <01>, he said <0559>, How <04069> [is it that] ye are come <0935> so soon <04116> to day <03117>?
19 And they said <0559>, An Egyptian <04713> delivered <05337> us out of the hand <03027> of the shepherds <07462>, and also <01571> drew <01802> [water] enough for us, and watered <08248> the flock <06629>.
20 And he said <0559> unto his daughters <01121>, And where <0346> [is] he? why <04100> [is] it [that] ye have left <05800> the man <0376>? call <07121> him, that he may eat <0398> bread <03899>.
21 And Moses <04872> was content <02974> to dwell <03427> with the man <0376>: and he gave <05414> Moses <04872> Zipporah <03855> his daughter <01323>.
22 And she bare <03205> [him] a son <01121>, and he called <07121> his name <08034> Gershom <01648>: for he said <0559>, I have been <01961> a stranger <01616> in a strange <05237> land <0776>.
23. And it came <01961> to pass in process <07227> of time <03117>, that the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> died <04191>: and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> sighed <0584> by reason <04480> of the bondage <05656>, and they cried <02199>, and their cry <07775> came <05927> up unto God <0430> by reason <04480> of the bondage <05656>.
24 And God <0430> heard <08085> their groaning <05009>, and God <0430> remembered <02142> his covenant <01285> with Abraham <085>, with Isaac <03327>, and with Jacob <03290>.
25 And God <0430> looked <07200> upon the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and God <0430> had respect <03045> unto [them].
Exodus 3
1. Now Moses <04872> kept <07462> the flock <06629> of Jethro <03503> his father <02859> in law <02859>, the priest <03548> of Midian <04080>: and he led <05090> the flock <06629> to the backside <0310> of the desert <04057>, and came <0935> to the mountain <02022> of God <0430>, [even] to Horeb <02722>.
2 And the angel <04397> of the LORD <03068> appeared <07200> unto him in a flame <03827> of fire <0784> out of the midst <08432> of a bush <05572>: and he looked <07200>, and, behold <02009>, the bush <05572> burned <01197> with fire <0784>, and the bush <05572> [was] not consumed <0398>.
3 And Moses <04872> said <0559>, I will now <04994> turn <05493> aside, and see <07200> this <02088> great <01419> sight <04758>, why <04069> the bush <05572> is not burnt <01197>.
4 And when the LORD <03068> saw <07200> that he turned <05493> aside to see <07200>, God <0430> called <07121> unto him out of the midst <08432> of the bush <05572>, and said <0559>, Moses <04872>, Moses <04872>. And he said <0559>, Here <02009> [am] I.
5 And he said <0559>, Draw not nigh <07126> hither <01988>: put <05394> off thy shoes <05275> from off thy feet <07272>, for the place <04725> whereon thou standest <05975> [is] holy <06944> ground <0127>.
6 Moreover he said <0559>, I [am] the God <0430> of thy father <01>, the God <0430> of Abraham <085>, the God <0430> of Isaac <03327>, and the God <0430> of Jacob <03290>. And Moses <04872> hid <05641> his face <06440>; for he was afraid <03372> to look <05027> upon God <0430>.
7. And the LORD <03068> said <0559>, I have surely seen <07200> the affliction <06040> of my people <05971> which <0834> [are] in Egypt <04714>, and have heard <08085> their cry <06818> by reason <06440> of their taskmasters <05065>; for I know <03045> their sorrows <04341>;
8 And I am come <03381> down <03381> to deliver <05337> them out of the hand <03027> of the Egyptians <04714>, and to bring <05927> them up out of that land <0776> unto a good <02896> land <0776> and a large <07342>, unto a land <0776> flowing <02100> with milk <02461> and honey <01706>; unto the place <04725> of the Canaanites <03669>, and the Hittites <02850>, and the Amorites <0567>, and the Perizzites <06522>, and the Hivites <02340>, and the Jebusites <02983>.
9 Now <06258> therefore, behold <02009>, the cry <06818> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> is come <0935> unto me: and I have also <01571> seen <07200> the oppression <03906> wherewith <0834> the Egyptians <04714> oppress <03905> them.
10 Come <03212> now <06258> therefore, and I will send <07971> thee unto Pharaoh <06547>, that thou mayest bring <03318> forth <03318> my people <05971> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> out of Egypt <04714>.
11. And Moses <04872> said <0559> unto God <0430>, Who <04310> [am] I, that I should go <03212> unto Pharaoh <06547>, and that I should bring <03318> forth <03318> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> out of Egypt <04714>?
12 And he said <0559>, Certainly <03588> I will be with thee; and this [shall be] a token <0226> unto thee, that I have sent <07971> thee: When thou hast brought <03318> forth <03318> the people <05971> out of Egypt <04714>, ye shall serve <05647> God <0430> upon this mountain <02022>.
13 And Moses <04872> said <0559> unto God <0430>, Behold <02009>, [when] I come <0935> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and shall say <0559> unto them, The God <0430> of your fathers <01> hath sent <07971> me unto you; and they shall say <0559> to me, What <04100> [is] his name <08034>? what <04100> shall I say <0559> unto them?
14 And God <0430> said <0559> unto Moses <04872>, I AM <01961> THAT I AM <01961>: and he said <0559>, Thus <03541> shalt thou say <0559> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, I AM <01961> hath sent <07971> me unto you.
15 And God <0430> said <0559> moreover <05750> unto Moses <04872>, Thus <03541> shalt thou say <0559> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, The LORD <03068> God <0430> of your fathers <01>, the God <0430> of Abraham <085>, the God <0430> of Isaac <03327>, and the God <0430> of Jacob <03290>, hath sent <07971> me unto you: this <02088> [is] my name <08034> for ever <05769>, and this <02088> [is] my memorial <02143> unto all generations <01755>.
16. Go <03212>, and gather <0622> the elders <02205> of Israel <03478> together, and say <0559> unto them, The LORD <03068> God <0430> of your fathers <01>, the God <0430> of Abraham <085>, of Isaac <03327>, and of Jacob <03290>, appeared <07200> unto me, saying <0559>, I have surely visited <06485> you, and [seen] that which <0834> is done <06213> to you in Egypt <04714>:
17 And I have said <0559>, I will bring <05927> you up out of the affliction <06040> of Egypt <04714> unto the land <0776> of the Canaanites <03669>, and the Hittites <02850>, and the Amorites <0567>, and the Perizzites <06522>, and the Hivites <02340>, and the Jebusites <02983>, unto a land <0776> flowing <02100> with milk <02461> and honey <01706>.
18 And they shall hearken <08085> to thy voice <06963>: and thou shalt come <0935>, thou and the elders <02205> of Israel <03478>, unto the king <04428> of Egypt <04714>, and ye shall say <0559> unto him, The LORD <03068> God <0430> of the Hebrews <05680> hath met <07136> with us: and now <06258> let us go <03212>, we beseech <04994> thee, three <07969> days <03117>' journey <01870> into the wilderness <04057>, that we may sacrifice <02076> to the LORD <03068> our God <0430>.
19 And I am sure <03045> that the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> will not let <05414> you go <01980>, no <03808>, not by a mighty <02389> hand <03027>.
20 And I will stretch <07971> out my hand <03027>, and smite <05221> Egypt <04714> with all <03605> my wonders <06381> which <0834> I will do <06213> in the midst <07130> thereof: and after <0310> that he will let you go <07971>.
21 And I will give <05414> this people <05971> favour <02580> in the sight <05869> of the Egyptians <04714>: and it shall come <01961> to pass, that, when <03588> ye go <03212>, ye shall not go <03212> empty <07387>:
22 But every woman <0802> shall borrow <07592> of her neighbour <07934>, and of her that sojourneth <01481> in her house <01004>, jewels <03627> of silver <03701>, and jewels <03627> of gold <02091>, and raiment <08071>: and ye shall put <07760> [them] upon your sons <01121>, and upon your daughters <01121>; and ye shall spoil <05337> the Egyptians <04714>.
Exodus 4
1. And Moses <04872> answered <06030> and said <0559>, But, behold <02005>, they will not believe <0539> me, nor <03808> hearken <08085> unto my voice <06963>: for they will say <0559>, The LORD <03068> hath not appeared <07200> unto thee.
2 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him, What <04100> [is] that in thine hand <03027>? And he said <0559>, A rod <04294>.
3 And he said <0559>, Cast <07993> it on the ground <0776>. And he cast <07993> it on the ground <0776>, and it became <01961> a serpent <05175>; and Moses <04872> fled <05127> from before <06440> it.
4 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Moses <04872>, Put <07971> forth <07971> thine hand <03027>, and take <0270> it by the tail <02180>. And he put <07971> forth <07971> his hand <03027>, and caught <02388> it, and it became <01961> a rod <04294> in his hand <03709>:
5 That they may believe <0539> that the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>, the God <0430> of Abraham <085>, the God <0430> of Isaac <03327>, and the God <0430> of Jacob <03290>, hath appeared <07200> unto thee.
6 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> furthermore <05750> unto him, Put <0935> now <04994> thine hand <03027> into thy bosom <02436>. And he put <0935> his hand <03027> into his bosom <02436>: and when he took <03318> it out, behold <02009>, his hand <03027> [was] leprous <06879> as snow <07950>.
7 And he said <0559>, Put <07725> thine hand <03027> into <0413> thy bosom <02436> again <07725>. And he put <07725> his hand <03027> into <0413> his bosom <02436> again <07725>; and plucked <03318> it out of his bosom <02436>, and, behold <02009>, it was turned <07725> again <07725> as his [other] flesh <01320>.
8 And it shall come <01961> to pass, if <0518> they will not believe <0539> thee, neither <03808> hearken <08085> to the voice <06963> of the first <07223> sign <0226>, that they will believe <0539> the voice <06963> of the latter <0314> sign <0226>.
9 And it shall come <01961> to pass, if <0518> they will not believe <0539> also <01571> these <0428> two <08147> signs <0226>, neither <03808> hearken <08085> unto thy voice <06963>, that thou shalt take <03947> of the water <04325> of the river <02975>, and pour <08210> [it] upon the dry <03004> [land]: and the water <04325> which <0834> thou takest <03947> out of the river <02975> shall become <01961> blood <01818> upon the dry <03006> [land].
10. And Moses <04872> said <0559> unto the LORD <0136>, O my Lord <03068>, I [am] not eloquent <01697>, neither <01571> heretofore <08543>, nor <01571> since <0227> thou hast spoken <01696> unto thy servant <05650>: but I [am] slow <03515> of speech <06310>, and of a slow <0750> tongue <03956>.
11 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him, Who <04310> hath made <07760> man's <0120> mouth <06310>? or <0176> who <04310> maketh <07760> the dumb <0483>, or <0176> deaf <02795>, or <0176> the seeing <06493>, or <0176> the blind <05787>? have not I the LORD <03068>?
12 Now <06258> therefore go <03212>, and I will be with thy mouth <06310>, and teach <03384> thee what <0834> thou shalt say <01696>.
13 And he said <0559>, O my Lord <0136>, send <07971>, I pray <04994> thee, by the hand <03027> [of him whom] thou wilt send <07971>.
14 And the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> was kindled <02734> against Moses <04872>, and he said <0559>, [Is] not Aaron <0175> the Levite <03881> thy brother <0251>? I know <03045> that he can speak <01696> well. And also <01571>, behold <02009>, he cometh <03318> forth <03318> to meet <07125> thee: and when he seeth <07200> thee, he will be glad <08056> in his heart <03820>.
15 And thou shalt speak <01696> unto him, and put <07760> words <01697> in his mouth <06310>: and I will be with thy mouth <06310>, and with his mouth <06310>, and will teach <03384> you what ye shall do <06213>.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman <01696> unto the people <05971>: and he shall be, [even] he shall be to thee instead of a mouth <06310>, and thou shalt be to him instead of God <0430>.
17 And thou shalt take <03947> this <02088> rod <04294> in thine hand <03027>, wherewith <0834> thou shalt do <06213> signs <0226>.
18. And Moses <04872> went <03212> and returned <07725> to Jethro <03503> his father <02859> in law <02859>, and said <0559> unto him, Let me go <03212>, I pray <04994> thee, and return <07725> unto my brethren <0251> which <0834> [are] in Egypt <04714>, and see <07200> whether <05750> they be yet <05750> alive <02416>. And Jethro <03503> said <0559> to Moses <04872>, Go <03212> in peace <07965>.
19 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Moses <04872> in Midian <04080>, Go <03212>, return <07725> into Egypt <04714>: for all <03605> the men <0582> are dead <04191> which sought <01245> thy life <05315>.
20 And Moses <04872> took <03947> his wife <0802> and his sons <01121>, and set <07392> them upon an ass <02543>, and he returned <07725> to the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>: and Moses <04872> took <03947> the rod <04294> of God <0430> in his hand <03027>.
21 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Moses <04872>, When thou goest <03212> to return <07725> into Egypt <04714>, see <07200> that thou do <06213> all <03605> those wonders <04159> before <06440> Pharaoh <06547>, which <0834> I have put <07760> in thine hand <03027>: but I will harden <02388> his heart <03820>, that he shall not let the people <05971> go <07971>.
22 And thou shalt say <0559> unto Pharaoh <06547>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Israel <03478> [is] my son <01121>, [even] my firstborn <01060>:
23 And I say <0559> unto thee, Let my son <01121> go <07971>, that he may serve <05647> me: and if thou refuse <03985> to let him go <07971>, behold <02009>, I will slay <02026> thy son <01121>, [even] thy firstborn <01060>.
24. And it came <01961> to pass by the way <01870> in the inn <04411>, that the LORD <03068> met <06298> him, and sought <01245> to kill <04191> him.
25 Then Zipporah <03855> took <03947> a sharp <06864> stone <06697>, and cut <03772> off the foreskin <06190> of her son <01121>, and cast <05060> [it] at his feet <07272>, and said <0559>, Surely <03588> a bloody <01818> husband <02860> [art] thou to me.
26 So he let him go <07503>: then <0227> she said <0559>, A bloody <01818> husband <02860> [thou art], because of the circumcision <04139>.
27 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> to Aaron <0175>, Go <03212> into the wilderness <04057> to meet <07125> Moses <04872>. And he went <03212>, and met <06298> him in the mount <02022> of God <0430>, and kissed <05401> him.
28 And Moses <04872> told <05046> Aaron <0175> all <03605> the words <01697> of the LORD <03068> who <0834> had sent <07971> him, and all <03605> the signs <0226> which <0834> he had commanded <06680> him.
29 And Moses <04872> and Aaron <0175> went <03212> and gathered <0622> together all <03605> the elders <02205> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>:
30 And Aaron <0175> spake <01696> all <03605> the words <01697> which <0834> the LORD <03068> had spoken <01696> unto Moses <04872>, and did <06213> the signs <0226> in the sight <05869> of the people <05971>.
31 And the people <05971> believed <0539>: and when they heard <08085> that the LORD <03068> had visited <06485> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and that he had looked <07200> upon their affliction <06040>, then they bowed <06915> their heads and worshipped <07812>.
Exodus 5
1. And afterward <0310> Moses <04872> and Aaron <0175> went <0935> in, and told <0559> Pharaoh <06547>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, Let my people <05971> go <07971>, that they may hold a feast <02287> unto me in the wilderness <04057>.
2 And Pharaoh <06547> said <0559>, Who <04310> [is] the LORD <03068>, that I should obey <08085> his voice <06963> to let Israel <03478> go <07971>? I know <03045> not the LORD <03068>, neither will I let Israel <03478> go <07971>.
3. And they said <0559>, The God <0430> of the Hebrews <05680> hath met <07122> with us: let us go <03212>, we pray <04994> thee, three <07969> days <03117>' journey <01870> into the desert <04057>, and sacrifice <02076> unto the LORD <03068> our God <0430>; lest <06435> he fall <06293> upon us with pestilence <01698>, or <0176> with the sword <02719>.
4 And the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> said <0559> unto them, Wherefore <04100> do ye, Moses <04872> and Aaron <0175>, let <06544> the people <05971> from their works <04639>? get <03212> you unto your burdens <05450>.
5 And Pharaoh <06547> said <0559>, Behold <02005>, the people <05971> of the land <0776> now <06258> [are] many <07227>, and ye make them rest <07673> from their burdens <05450>.
6 And Pharaoh <06547> commanded <06680> the same <01931> day <03117> the taskmasters <05065> of the people <05971>, and their officers <07860>, saying <0559>,
7 Ye shall no <03808> more <03254> give <05414> the people <05971> straw <08401> to make brick <03835>, as heretofore <08543>: let them go <03212> and gather <07197> straw <08401> for themselves <01992>.
8 And the tale <04971> of the bricks <03843>, which <0834> they did make <06213> heretofore <08543>, ye shall lay <07760> upon them; ye shall not diminish <01639> [ought] thereof: for they [be] idle <07504>; therefore they cry <06817>, saying <0559>, Let us go <03212> [and] sacrifice <02076> to our God <0430>.
9 Let there more work <05656> be laid <03515> upon the men <0582>, that they may labour <06213> therein; and let them not regard <08159> vain <08267> words <01697>.
10. And the taskmasters <05065> of the people <05971> went <03318> out, and their officers <07860>, and they spake <0559> to the people <05971>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> Pharaoh <06547>, I will not give <05414> you straw <08401>.
11 Go <03212> ye, get <03947> you straw <08401> where <0834> ye can find <04672> it: yet <03588> not ought <01697> of your work <05656> shall be diminished <01639>.
12 So the people <05971> were scattered <06327> abroad <06527> throughout all <03605> the land <0776> of Egypt <04714> to gather <07197> stubble <07179> instead of straw <08401>.
13 And the taskmasters <05065> hasted <0213> [them], saying <0559>, Fulfil <03615> your works <04639>, [your] daily <03117> tasks <01697>, as when <0834> there was straw <08401>.
14 And the officers <07860> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, which <0834> Pharaoh's <06547> taskmasters <05065> had set <07760> over <05921> them, were beaten <05221>, [and] demanded <0559>, Wherefore <04069> have ye not fulfilled <03615> your task <02706> in making brick <03835> both <01571> yesterday <08543> and to day <03117>, as heretofore <08543>?
15. Then the officers <07860> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> came <0935> and cried <06817> unto Pharaoh <06547>, saying <0559>, Wherefore <04100> dealest <06213> thou thus <03541> with thy servants <05650>?
16 There is no <0369> straw <08401> given <05414> unto thy servants <05650>, and they say <0559> to us, Make <06213> brick <03843>: and, behold <02009>, thy servants <05650> [are] beaten <05221>; but the fault <02398> [is] in thine own people <05971>.
17 But he said <0559>, Ye [are] idle <07504>, [ye are] idle <07504>: therefore ye say <0559>, Let us go <03212> [and] do sacrifice <02076> to the LORD <03068>.
18 Go <03212> therefore now <06258>, [and] work <05647>; for there shall no <03808> straw <08401> be given <05414> you, yet shall ye deliver <05414> the tale <08506> of bricks <03843>.
19 And the officers <07860> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did see <07200> [that] they [were] in evil <07451> [case], after it was said <0559>, Ye shall not minish <01639> [ought] from your bricks <03843> of your daily <03117> task <01697>.
20 And they met <06293> Moses <04872> and Aaron <0175>, who <04310> stood <05324> in the way <07125>, as they came <03318> forth <03318> from Pharaoh <06547>:
21 And they said <0559> unto them, The LORD <03068> look <07200> upon you, and judge <08199>; because <0834> ye have made our savour <07381> to be abhorred <0887> in the eyes <05869> of Pharaoh <06547>, and in the eyes <05869> of his servants <05650>, to put <05414> a sword <02719> in their hand <03027> to slay <02026> us.
