2Samuel 1
1. Now it came <1961 hayah > to pass after <0310 >achar > the
death <4194 maveth > of Saul <7586 Sha>uwl >, when David <1732
David > was returned <7725 shuwb > from the slaughter <5221
nakah > of the Amalekites <6003 <Amaleqiy >, and David <1732
David > had abode <3427 yashab > two <8147 sh@nayim > days <3117
yowm > in Ziklag <6860 Tsiqlag >;
2 It came <1961 hayah > even to pass on the third <7992
sh@liyshiy > day <3117 yowm >, that, behold <2009 hinneh >, a
man <0376 >iysh > came <0935 bow> > out of the camp <4264
machaneh > from Saul <7586 Sha>uwl > with his clothes <0899
beged > rent <7167 qara< >, and earth <0127 >adamah > upon his
head <7218 ro>sh >: and [so] it was, when he came <0935 bow> >
to David <1732 David >, that he fell <5307 naphal > to the earth
<0776 >erets >, and did obeisance <7812 shachah >.
3 And David <1732 David > said <0559 >amar > unto him, From
whence comest <0935 bow> > thou? And he said <0559 >amar > unto
him, Out of the camp <4264 machaneh > of Israel <3478 Yisra>el >
am I escaped <4422 malat >.
4 And David <1732 David > said <0559 >amar > unto him, How
<4100 mah > went <1961 hayah > the matter <1697 dabar >? I pray
<4994 na> > thee, tell <5046 nagad > me. And he answered <0559
>amar >, That the people <5971 <am > are fled <5127 nuwc > from
the battle <4421 milchamah >, and many <7235 rabah > of the
people <5971 <am > also <1571 gam > are fallen <5307 naphal >
and dead <4191 muwth >; and Saul <7586 Sha>uwl > and Jonathan
<3083 Y@hownathan > his son <1121 ben > are dead <4191 muwth >
also <1571 gam >.
5 And David <1732 David > said <0559 >amar > unto the young
<5288 na<ar > man that told <5046 nagad > him, How <0349 >eyk >
knowest <3045 yada< > thou that Saul <7586 Sha>uwl > and
Jonathan <3083 Y@hownathan > his son <1121 ben > be dead <4191
muwth >?
6 And the young <5288 na<ar > man that told <5046 nagad > him
said <0559 >amar >, As I happened <7136 qarah > by chance <7122
qara> > upon mount <2022 har > Gilboa <1533 Gilboa< >, behold
<2009 hinneh >, Saul <7586 Sha>uwl > leaned <8172 sha<an > upon
his spear <2595 chaniyth >; and, lo <2009 hinneh >, the chariots
<7393 rekeb > and horsemen <6571 parash > followed <1692 dabaq >
hard <1692 dabaq > after him.
7 And when he looked <6437 panah > behind <0310 >achar > him,
he saw <7200 ra>ah > me, and called <7121 qara> > unto me. And I
answered <0559 >amar >, Here <2009 hinneh > [am] I.
8 And he said <0559 >amar > unto me, Who <4310 miy > [art]
thou? And I answered <0559 >amar > him, I [am] an Amalekite
<6003 <Amaleqiy >.
9 He said <0559 >amar > unto me again, Stand <5975 <amad >, I
pray <4994 na> > thee, upon me, and slay <4191 muwth > me: for
anguish <7661 shabats > is come <0270 >achaz > upon me, because
<3588 kiy > my life <5315 nephesh > [is] yet <5750 <owd > whole
<3605 kol > in me.
10 So I stood <5975 <amad > upon him, and slew <4191 muwth >
him, because <3588 kiy > I was sure <3045 yada< > that he could
not live <2421 chayah > after <0310 >achar > that he was fallen
<5307 naphal >: and I took <3947 laqach > the crown <5145 nezer
> that [was] upon his head <7218 ro>sh >, and the bracelet <0685
>ets<adah > that [was] on <5921 <al > his arm <2220 z@rowa< >,
and have brought <0935 bow> > them hither unto my lord <0113
>adown >.
11. Then David <1732 David > took hold <2388 chazaq > on his
clothes <0899 beged >, and rent <7167 qara< > them; and likewise
<1571 gam > all <3605 kol > the men <0582 >enowsh > that [were]
with him:
12 And they mourned <5594 caphad >, and wept <1058 bakah >, and
fasted <6684 tsuwm > until <5704 <ad > even <6153 <ereb >, for
Saul <7586 Sha>uwl >, and for Jonathan <3083 Y@hownathan > his
son <1121 ben >, and for the people <5971 <am > of the LORD
<3068 Y@hovah >, and for the house <1004 bayith > of Israel
<3478 Yisra>el >; because <3588 kiy > they were fallen <5307
naphal > by the sword <2719 chereb >.
13 And David <1732 David > said <0559 >amar > unto the young
<5288 na<ar > man that told <5046 nagad > him, Whence [art]
thou? And he answered <0559 >amar >, I [am] the son <1121 ben >
of a stranger, an Amalekite <6003 <Amaleqiy >.
14 And David <1732 David > said <0559 >amar > unto him, How
<0349 >eyk > wast thou not afraid <3372 yare> > to stretch <7971
shalach > forth thine hand <3027 yad > to destroy <7843 shachath
> the LORD'S <3068 Y@hovah > anointed <4899 mashiyach >?
15 And David <1732 David > called <7121 qara> > one <0259
>echad > of the young <5288 na<ar > men, and said <0559 >amar >,
Go <5066 nagash > near <5066 nagash >, [and] fall <6293 paga< >
upon him. And he smote <5221 nakah > him that he died <4191
muwth >.
16 And David <1732 David > said <0559 >amar > unto him, Thy
blood <1818 dam > [be] upon thy head <7218 ro>sh >; for thy
mouth <6310 peh > hath testified <6030 <anah > against thee,
saying <0559 >amar >, I have slain <4191 muwth > the LORD'S
<3068 Y@hovah > anointed <4899 mashiyach >.
17. And David <1732 David > lamented <6969 quwn > with this
<2063 zo>th > lamentation <7015 qiynah > over <5921 <al > Saul
<7586 Sha>uwl > and over <5921 <al > Jonathan <3083 Y@hownathan
> his son <1121 ben >:
18 (Also he bade <0559 >amar > them teach <3925 lamad > the
children <1121 ben > of Judah <3063 Y@huwdah > [the use of] the
bow <7198 qesheth >: behold <2009 hinneh >, [it is] written
<3789 kathab > in the book <5612 cepher > of Jasher <3477 yashar
>.)
19 The beauty <6643 ts@biy > of Israel <3478 Yisra>el > is
slain <2491 chalal > upon thy high <1116 bamah > places: how
<0349 >eyk > are the mighty <1368 gibbowr > fallen <5307 naphal
>!
20 Tell <5046 nagad > [it] not in Gath <1661 Gath >, publish
<1319 basar > [it] not in the streets <2351 chuwts > of Askelon
<0831 >Ashq@lown >; lest <6435 pen > the daughters <1121 ben >
of the Philistines <6430 P@lishtiy > rejoice <8055 samach >,
lest <6435 pen > the daughters <1121 ben > of the uncircumcised
<6189 <arel > triumph <5937 <alaz >.
21 Ye mountains <2022 har > of Gilboa <1533 Gilboa< >, [let
there be] no <0408 >al > dew <2919 tal >, neither <0408 >al >
[let there be] rain <4306 matar >, upon you, nor fields <7704
sadeh > of offerings <8641 t@ruwmah >: for there <8033 sham >
the shield <4043 magen > of the mighty <1368 gibbowr > is vilely
<1602 ga<al > cast <1602 ga<al > away, the shield <4043 magen >
of Saul <7586 Sha>uwl >, [as though he had] not [been] anointed
<4899 mashiyach > with oil <8081 shemen >.
22 From the blood <1818 dam > of the slain <2491 chalal >, from
the fat <2459 cheleb > of the mighty <1368 gibbowr >, the bow
<7198 qesheth > of Jonathan <3083 Y@hownathan > turned <7734
suwg > not back <0268 >achowr >, and the sword <2719 chereb > of
Saul <7586 Sha>uwl > returned <7725 shuwb > not empty <7387
reyqam >.
23 Saul <7586 Sha>uwl > and Jonathan <3083 Y@hownathan > [were]
lovely <0157 >ahab > and pleasant <5273 na<iym > in their lives
<2416 chay >, and in their death <4194 maveth > they were not
divided <6504 parad >: they were swifter <7043 qalal > than
eagles <5404 nesher >, they were stronger <1396 gabar > than
