Daniel 1

 1. In the third <07969> year <08141> of the reign <04438> of

Jehoiakim <03079> king <04428> of Judah <03063> came <0935>

Nebuchadnezzar <05019> king <04428> of Babylon <0894> unto

Jerusalem <03389>, and besieged <06696> it.

2 And the Lord <0136> gave <05414> Jehoiakim <03079> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> into his hand <03027>, with part

<07117> of the vessels <03627> of the house <01004> of God

<0430>: which he carried <0935> into the land <0776> of Shinar

<08152> to the house <01004> of his god <0430>; and he brought

<0935> the vessels <03627> into the treasure <0214> house

<01004> of his god <0430>.

3 And the king <04428> spake <0559> unto Ashpenaz <0828> the

master <07227> of his eunuchs <05631>, that he should bring

<0935> [certain] of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and

of the king's <04410> seed <02233>, and of the princes <06579>;

4 Children <03206> in whom [was] no <0369> blemish <03971>, but

well <02896> favoured <04758>, and skilful <07919> in all

<03605> wisdom <02451>, and cunning <03045> in knowledge <01847>,

and understanding <0995> science <04093>, and such as [had]

ability <03581> in them to stand <05975> in the king's <04428>

palace <01964>, and whom they might teach <03925> the learning

<05612> and the tongue <03956> of the Chaldeans <03779>.

 5 And the king <04428> appointed <04487> them a daily <03117>

provision <01697> of the king's <04428> meat <06598>, and of the

wine <03196> which he drank <04960>: so nourishing <01431> them

three <07969> years <08141>, that at the end <07117> thereof

they might stand <05975> before <06440> the king <04428>.

6 Now among these <01992> were of the children <01121> of Judah

<03063>, Daniel <01840>, Hananiah <02608>, Mishael <04332>, and

Azariah <05838>:

7 Unto whom <01992> the prince <08269> of the eunuchs <05631>

gave <07760> names <08034>: for he gave <07760> unto Daniel

<01840> [the name <08034>] of Belteshazzar <01095>; and to

Hananiah <02608>, of Shadrach <07714>; and to Mishael <04332>,

of Meshach <04335>; and to Azariah <05838>, of Abednego <05664>.

 8. But Daniel <01840> purposed <07760> in his heart <03820>

that he would not defile <01351> himself with the portion

<06598> of the king's <04428> meat <06598>, nor with the wine

<03196> which he drank <04960>: therefore he requested <01245>

of the prince <08269> of the eunuchs <05631> that he might not

defile <01351> himself.

9 Now God <0430> had brought <05414> Daniel <01840> into favour

<02617> and tender love with the prince <08269> of the eunuchs

<05631>.

10 And the prince <08269> of the eunuchs <05631> said <0559>

unto Daniel <01840>, I fear <03373> my lord <0113> the king

<04428>, who <0834> hath appointed <04487> your meat <03978> and

your drink <04960>: for why <04100> should he see <07200> your

faces <06440> worse <02196> liking than <04480> the children

<03206> which <0834> [are] of your sort <01524>? then shall ye

make [me] endanger <02325> my head <07218> to the king <04428>.

11 Then said <0559> Daniel <01840> to Melzar <04453>, whom

<0834> the prince <08269> of the eunuchs <05631> had set <04487>

over <05921> Daniel <01840>, Hananiah <02608>, Mishael <04332>,

and Azariah <05838>,

 12 Prove <05254> thy servants <05650>, I beseech <04994> thee,

ten <06235> days <03117>; and let them give <05414> us pulse

<02235> to eat <0398>, and water <04325> to drink <08354>.

13 Then let our countenances <04758> be looked <07200> upon

before <06440> thee, and the countenance <04758> of the children

<03206> that eat <0398> of the portion <06598> of the king's

<04428> meat <06598>: and as thou seest <07200>, deal <06213>

with thy servants <05650>.

14 So he consented <08085> to them in this <02088> matter

<01697>, and proved <05254> them ten <06235> days <03117>.

15 And at the end <07117> of ten <06235> days <03117> their

countenances <04758> appeared <07200> fairer <02896> and fatter

<01277> in flesh <01320> than <04480> all <03605> the children

<03206> which did eat <0398> the portion <06598> of the king's

<04428> meat <06598>.

16 Thus Melzar <04453> took <05375> away the portion <06598> of

their meat <06598>, and the wine <03196> that they should drink

<04960>; and gave <05414> them pulse <02235>.

 17. As for these <0428> four <0702> children <03206>, God

<0430> gave <05414> them knowledge <04093> and skill <07919> in

all <03605> learning <05612> and wisdom <02451>: and Daniel

<01840> had understanding <0995> in all <03605> visions <02377>

and dreams <02472>.

18 Now at the end <07117> of the days <03117> that the king

<04428> had said <0559> he should bring <0935> them in, then the

prince <08269> of the eunuchs <05631> brought <0935> them in

before <06440> Nebuchadnezzar <05019>.

19 And the king <04428> communed <01696> with them; and among

them all <03605> was found <04672> none <03808> like Daniel

<01840>, Hananiah <02608>, Mishael <04332>, and Azariah <05838>:

therefore stood <05975> they before <06440> the king <04428>.

20 And in all <03605> matters <01697> of wisdom <02451> [and]

understanding <0998>, that the king <04428> enquired <01245> of

them, he found <04672> them ten <06235> times better <03027>

than <05921> all <03605> the magicians <02748> [and] astrologers

<0825> that [were] in all <03605> his realm <04438>.

21 And Daniel <01840> continued <01961> [even] unto the first

<0259> year <08141> of king <04428> Cyrus <03566>.

Daniel 2

 1. And in the second <08147> year <08141> of the reign <04438>

of Nebuchadnezzar <05019> Nebuchadnezzar <05019> dreamed <02492>

dreams <02472>, wherewith his spirit <07307> was troubled

<06470>, and his sleep <08142> brake <01961> from him.

2 Then the king <04428> commanded <0559> to call <07121> the

magicians <02748>, and the astrologers <0825>, and the sorcerers

<03784>, and the Chaldeans <03779>, for to shew <05046> the king

<04428> his dreams <02472>. So they came <0935> and stood

<05975> before <06440> the king <04428>.

3 And the king <04428> said <0559> unto them, I have dreamed

<02492> a dream <02472>, and my spirit <07307> was troubled

<06470> to know <03045> the dream <02472>.

4 Then spake <01696> the Chaldeans <03779> to the king <04428>

in Syriack <0762>, O king <04430>, live <02418> for ever <05957>:

tell <0560> thy servants <05649> the dream <02493>, and we will

shew <02324> the interpretation <06591>.

5 The king <04430> answered <06032> and said <0560> to the

Chaldeans <03779>, The thing <04406> is gone <0230> from me: if

<02006> ye will not make known <03046> unto me the dream <02493>,

with the interpretation <06591> thereof, ye shall be cut

<05648> in pieces <01917>, and your houses <01005> shall be made

<07761> a dunghill <05122>.

6 But if <02006> ye shew <02324> the dream <02493>, and the

interpretation <06591> thereof, ye shall receive <06902> of me

gifts <04978> and rewards <05023> and great <07690> honour

<03367>: therefore <02006> shew <02324> me the dream <02493>,

and the interpretation <06591> thereof.

7 They answered <06032> again <08579> and said <0560>, Let the

king <04430> tell <0560> his servants <05649> the dream <02493>,

and we will shew <02324> the interpretation <06591> of it.

 8 The king <04430> answered <06032> and said <0560>, I know

<03046> of certainty <03330> that ye would gain <02084> the time

<05732>, because ye see <02370> the thing <04406> is gone <0230>

from me.

9 But if <02006> ye will not make known <03046> unto me the

dream <02493>, [there is but] one <02298> decree <01882> for you:

for ye have prepared <02164> lying <03538> and corrupt <07844>

words <04406> to speak <0560> before <06925> me, till <05704>

the time <05732> be changed <08133>: therefore <02006> tell

<0560> me the dream <02493>, and I shall know <03046> that ye

can shew <02324> me the interpretation <06591> thereof.

 10 The Chaldeans <03779> answered <06032> before <06925> the

king <04430>, and said <0560>, There is not a man <0606> upon

the earth <03007> that can <03202> shew <02324> the king's

<04430> matter <04406>: therefore [there is] no king <04430>,

lord <07229>, nor ruler <07990>, [that] asked <07593> such

<01836> things at any <03606> magician <02749>, or astrologer

<0826>, or Chaldean <03777>.

11 And [it is] a rare <03358> thing <04406> that the king

<04430> requireth <07593>, and there is none <03809> other

<0321> that can shew <02324> it before <06925> the king <04430>,

except <03861> the gods <0426>, whose <01768> dwelling <04070>

is not with flesh <01321>.

12 For this <01836> cause the king <04430> was angry <01149>

and very <07690> furious <07108>, and commanded <0560> to

destroy <07> all <03606> the wise <02445> [men] of Babylon

<0895>.

13 And the decree <01882> went <05312> forth <05312> that the

wise <02445> [men] should be slain <06992>; and they sought

<01158> Daniel <01841> and his fellows <02269> to be slain

<06992>.

 14. Then <0116> Daniel <01841> answered <08421> with counsel

<05843> and wisdom <02942> to Arioch <0746> the captain <07229>

of the king's <04430> guard <02877>, which <01768> was gone

<05312> forth <05312> to slay <06992> the wise <02445> [men] of

Babylon <0895>:

15 He answered <06032> and said <0560> to Arioch <0746> the

king's <04430> captain <07990>, Why [is] the decree <01882> [so]

hasty <02685> from the king <04430>? Then <0116> Arioch <0746>

made the thing <04406> known <03046> to Daniel <01841>.

16 Then Daniel <01841> went <05954> in, and desired <01156> of

the king <04430> that he would give <05415> him time <02166>,

and that he would shew <02324> the king <04430> the

interpretation <06591>.

 17 Then <0116> Daniel <01841> went <0236> to his house <01005>,

and made the thing <04406> known <03046> to Hananiah <02608>,

Mishael <04332>, and Azariah <05839>, his companions <02269>:

18 That they would desire <01156> mercies <07359> of the God

<0426> of heaven <08065> concerning <05922> this <01836> secret

<07328>; that Daniel <01841> and his fellows <02269> should not

perish <07> with the rest <07606> of the wise <02445> [men] of

Babylon <0895>.

19 Then <0116> was the secret <07328> revealed <01541> unto

Daniel <01841> in a night <03916> vision <02376>. Then <0116>

Daniel <01841> blessed <01289> the God <0426> of heaven <08065>.

 20 Daniel <01841> answered <06032> and said <0560>, Blessed

<01289> be the name <08036> of God <0426> for ever <05957> and

ever <05957>: for wisdom <02452> and might <01370> are his:

21 And he changeth <08133> the times <05732> and the seasons

<02166>: he removeth <05709> kings <04430>, and setteth <06966>

up kings <04430>: he giveth <03052> wisdom <02452> unto the wise

<02445>, and knowledge <0998> to them that know <03046>

understanding <0999>:

22 He revealeth <01541> the deep <05994> and secret <05642>

things: he knoweth <03046> what <04101> [is] in the darkness

<02816>, and the light <05094> dwelleth <08271> with him.

 23 I thank <03029> thee, and praise <07624> thee, O thou God

<0426> of my fathers <02>, who <01768> hast given <03052> me

wisdom <02452> and might <01370>, and hast made known <03046>

unto me now <03705> what <01768> we desired <01156> of thee: for

thou hast [now <03705>] made known <03046> unto us the king's

<04430> matter <04406>.

 24. Therefore Daniel <01841> went <05954> in unto Arioch <0746>,

whom <01768> the king <04430> had ordained <04483> to destroy

<07> the wise <02445> [men] of Babylon <0895>: he went <0236>

and said <0560> thus <03652> unto him; Destroy <07> not the wise

<02445> [men] of Babylon <0895>: bring <05924> me in before

<06925> the king <04430>, and I will shew <02324> unto the king

<04430> the interpretation <06591>.

 25 Then <0116> Arioch <0746> brought <05954> in Daniel <01841>

before <06925> the king <04430> in haste <0927>, and said <0560>

thus <03652> unto him, I have found <04672> a man <01400> of the

captives of Judah <03061>, that will make known <03046> unto the

king <04430> the interpretation <06591>.

26 The king <04430> answered <06032> and said <0560> to Daniel

<01841>, whose <01768> name <08036> [was] Belteshazzar <01096>,

Art <0383> thou able <03546> to make known <03046> unto me the

dream <02493> which <01768> I have seen <02370>, and the

interpretation <06591> thereof?

27 Daniel <01841> answered <06032> in the presence <06925> of

the king <04430>, and said <0560>, The secret <07328> which

<01768> the king <04430> hath demanded <07593> cannot the wise

<02445> [men], the astrologers <0826>, the magicians <02749>,

the soothsayers <01505>, shew <02324> unto the king <04430>;

28 But there is a God <0426> in heaven <08065> that revealeth

<01541> secrets <07328>, and maketh known <03046> to the king

<04430> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> what <04101> shall be in the

latter <0320> days <03118>. Thy dream <02493>, and the visions

<02376> of thy head <07217> upon thy bed <04903>, are these

<01836>;

29 As for thee, O king <04430>, thy thoughts <07476> came

<05559> [into thy mind] upon thy bed <04903>, what <04101>

should come <01934> to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth

<01541> secrets <07328> maketh known <03046> to thee what

<04101> shall come <01934> to pass.

30 But as for me, this <01836> secret <07328> is not revealed

<01541> to me for [any] wisdom <02452> that I have <0383> more

<04481> than <04481> any <03606> living <02417>, but for [their]

sakes <01701> that shall make known <03046> the interpretation

<06591> to the king <04430>, and that thou mightest know <03046>

the thoughts <07476> of thy heart <03825>.

 31. Thou, O king <04430>, sawest <02370>, and behold <0431> a

great <07690> image <06755>. This <01797> great <07229> image

<06755>, whose brightness <02122> [was] excellent <03493>, stood

<06966> before <06903> thee; and the form <07299> thereof [was]

terrible <01763>.

 32 This <01931> image's <06755> head <07217> [was] of fine

<02869> gold <01722>, his breast <02306> and his arms <01672> of

silver <03702>, his belly <04577> and his thighs <03410> of

brass <05174>,

33 His legs <08243> of iron <06523>, his feet <07271> part

<04481> of iron <06523> and part <04481> of clay <02635>.

 34 Thou sawest <02370> till <05704> that a stone <069> was cut

<01505> out without hands <03028>, which smote <04223> the image

<06755> upon his feet <07271> [that were] of iron <06523> and

clay <02635>, and brake <01855> them to pieces.

35 Then <0116> was the iron <06523>, the clay <02635>, the

brass <05174>, the silver <03702>, and the gold <01722>, broken

<01854> to pieces together <02298>, and became <01934> like the

chaff <05784> of the summer <07007> threshingfloors <0147>; and

the wind <07308> carried <05376> them away, that no place <0870>

was found <07912> for them: and the stone <069> that smote

<04223> the image <06755> became <01934> a great <07229>

mountain <02906>, and filled <04391> the whole <03606> earth

<0772>.

36 This <01836> [is] the dream <02493>; and we will tell <0560>

the interpretation <06591> thereof before <06925> the king

<04430>.

 37 Thou, O king <04430>, [art] a king <04430> of kings <04430>:

for the God <0426> of heaven <08065> hath given <03052> thee a

kingdom <04437>, power <02632>, and strength <08632>, and glory

<03367>.

38 And wheresoever the children <01123> of men <0606> dwell

<01753>, the beasts <02423> of the field <01251> and the fowls

<05776> of the heaven <08065> hath he given <03052> into thine

hand <03028>, and hath made thee ruler <07981> over them all

<03606>. Thou [art] this <01931> head <07217> of gold <01722>.

39 And after <0870> thee shall arise <06965> another <0317>

kingdom <04437> inferior <0772> to thee, and another <0317>

third <08523> kingdom <04437> of brass <05174>, which <01768>

shall bear <07981> rule <07981> over all <03606> the earth

<0772>.

40 And the fourth <07244> kingdom <04437> shall be strong

<08624> as iron <06523>: forasmuch as iron <06523> breaketh

<01855> in pieces and subdueth <02827> all <03606> [things]: and

as iron <06523> that breaketh <07940> all <03606> these <0459>,

shall it break <01854> in pieces and bruise <07490>.

41 And whereas <01768> thou sawest <02370> the feet <07271> and

toes <0677>, part <04481> of potters <06353>' clay <02635>, and

part <04481> of iron <06523>, the kingdom <04437> shall be

divided <06386>; but there shall be in it of the strength

<05326> of the iron <06523>, forasmuch as thou sawest <02370>

the iron <06523> mixed <06151> with miry <02917> clay <02635>.

42 And [as] the toes <0677> of the feet <07271> [were] part

<04481> of iron <06523>, and part <04481> of clay <02635>, [so]

the kingdom <04437> shall be partly <07118> strong <08624>, and

partly <07118> broken <08406>.

43 And whereas <01768> thou sawest <02370> iron <06523> mixed

<06151> with miry <02917> clay <02635>, they shall mingle

<06151> themselves with the seed <02234> of men <0606>: but they

shall not cleave <01693> one <01836> to another <01836>, even

<01887> as iron <06523> is not mixed <06151> with clay <02635>.

44 And in the days <03118> of these <0581> kings <04430> shall

the God <0426> of heaven <08065> set <06966> up a kingdom

<04437>, which <01768> shall never be destroyed <02255>: and the

kingdom <04437> shall not be left <07662> to other <0321> people

<05972>, [but] it shall break <01854> in pieces and consume

<05487> all <03606> these <0459> kingdoms <04437>, and it shall

stand <06966> for ever <05957>.

45 Forasmuch as thou sawest <02370> that the stone <069> was

cut <01505> out of the mountain <02906> without hands <03028>,

and that it brake <01855> in pieces the iron <06523>, the brass

<05174>, the clay <02635>, the silver <03702>, and the gold

<01722>; the great <07229> God <0426> hath made known <03046> to

the king <04430> what <04101> shall come <01934> to pass

hereafter: and the dream <02493> [is] certain <03330>, and the

interpretation <06591> thereof sure <0546>.

 46. Then <0116> the king <04430> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> fell

<05308> upon his face <0600>, and worshipped <05457> Daniel

<01841>, and commanded <0560> that they should offer <05260> an

oblation <08641> and sweet <05208> odours <05208> unto him.

47 The king <04430> answered <06032> unto Daniel <01841>, and

said <0560>, Of a truth <07187> [it is], that your God <0426>

[is] a God <0426> of gods <0426>, and a Lord <04756> of kings

<04430>, and a revealer <01541> of secrets <07328>, seeing

<01768> thou couldest <03202> reveal <01541> this <01836> secret

<07328>.

 48 Then <0116> the king <04430> made <07236> Daniel <01841> a

great <07236> man, and gave <03052> him many <07690> great

<07260> gifts <04978>, and made him ruler <07981> over <05922>

the whole <03606> province <04083> of Babylon <0895>, and chief

<07229> of the governors <05461> over <05922> all <03606> the

wise <02445> [men] of Babylon <0895>.

49 Then Daniel <01841> requested <01156> of the king <04430>,

and he set <04483> Shadrach <07715>, Meshach <04336>, and

Abednego <05665>, over <05922> the affairs <05673> of the

province <04083> of Babylon <0895>: but Daniel <01841> [sat] in

the gate <08651> of the king <04430>.

Daniel 3

 1. Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430> made <05648> an

image <06755> of gold <01722>, whose <01768> height <07314>

[was] threescore <08361> cubits <0521>, [and] the breadth

<06613> thereof six <08353> cubits <0521>: he set <06966> it up

in the plain <01236> of Dura <01757>, in the province <04083> of

Babylon <0895>.

2 Then Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430> sent <07972> to

gather <03673> together the princes <0324>, the governors

<05461>, and the captains <06347>, the judges <0148>, the

treasurers <01411>, the counsellors <01884>, the sheriffs

<08614>, and all <03606> the rulers <07984> of the provinces

<04082>, to come <0858> to the dedication <02597> of the image

<06755> which <01768> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430>

had set <06966> up.

3 Then <0116> the princes <0324>, the governors <05461>, and

captains <06347>, the judges <0148>, the treasurers <01411>, the

counsellors <01884>, the sheriffs <08614>, and all <03606> the

rulers <07984> of the provinces <04082>, were gathered <03673>

together unto the dedication <02597> of the image <06755> that

Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430> had set <06966> up; and

they stood <06966> before <06903> the image <06755> that

Nebuchadnezzar <05020> had set <06966> up.

4 Then an herald <03744> cried <07123> aloud <02429>, To you it

is commanded <0560>, O people <05972>, nations <0524>, and

languages <03961>,

5 [That] at what <01768> time <05732> ye hear <08086> the sound

<07032> of the cornet <07162>, flute <04953>, harp <07030>,

sackbut <05443>, psaltery <06460>, dulcimer <05481>, and all

<03606> kinds <02177> of musick <02170>, ye fall <05308> down

and worship <05457> the golden <01722> image <06755> that

Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430> hath set <06966> up:

6 And whoso falleth <05308> not down and worshippeth <05457>

shall the same hour <08160> be cast <07412> into the midst

<01459> of a burning <03345> fiery <05135> furnace <0861>.

7 Therefore at that time <02166>, when <01768> all <03606> the

people <05972> heard <08086> the sound <07032> of the cornet

<07162>, flute <04953>, harp <07030>, sackbut <05443>, psaltery

<06460>, and all <03606> kinds <02177> of musick <02170>, all

<03606> the people <05972>, the nations <0524>, and the

languages <03961>, fell <05308> down [and] worshipped <05457>

the golden <01722> image <06755> that Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the

king <04430> had set <06966> up.

 8. Wherefore at that time <02166> certain <01400> Chaldeans

<03779> came <07127> near <07127>, and accused <07170> the Jews

<03064>.

9 They spake <06032> and said <0560> to the king <04430>

Nebuchadnezzar <05020>, O king <04430>, live <02418> for ever

<05957>.

 10 Thou, O king <04430>, hast made <07761> a decree <02942>,

that every <03606> man <0606> that shall hear <08086> the sound

<07032> of the cornet <07162>, flute <04953>, harp <07030>,

sackbut <05443>, psaltery <06460>, and dulcimer <05481>, and all

<03606> kinds <02177> of musick <02170>, shall fall <05308> down

and worship <05457> the golden <01722> image <06755>:

11 And whoso falleth <05308> not down and worshippeth <05457>,

[that] he should be cast <07412> into the midst <01459> of a

burning <03345> fiery <05135> furnace <0861>.

12 There are certain <01400> Jews <03064> whom <03487> thou

hast set <04483> over <05921> the affairs <05673> of the

province <04083> of Babylon <0895>, Shadrach <07715>, Meshach

<04336>, and Abednego <05665>; these <0479> men <01400>, O king

<04430>, have not regarded thee: they serve <06399> not thy gods

<0426>, nor <03809> worship <05457> the golden <01722> image

<06755> which <01768> thou hast set <06966> up.

13 Then <0116> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> in [his] rage <07266> and

fury <02528> commanded <0560> to bring <0858> Shadrach <07715>,

Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>. Then <0116> they brought

<0858> these <0479> men <01400> before <06925> the king <04430>.

 14 Nebuchadnezzar <05020> spake <06032> and said <0560> unto

them, [Is it] true <06656>, O Shadrach <07715>, Meshach <04336>,

and Abednego <05665>, do not ye serve <06399> my gods <0426>,

nor <03809> worship <05457> the golden <01722> image <06755>

which <01768> I have set <06966> up?

15 Now <03705> if <02006> ye be ready <06263> that at what

<01768> time <05732> ye hear <08086> the sound <07032> of the

cornet <07162>, flute <04953>, harp <07030>, sackbut <05443>,

psaltery <06460>, and dulcimer <05481>, and all <03606> kinds

<02177> of musick <02170>, ye fall <05308> down and worship

<05457> the image <06755> which <01768> I have made <05648>;

[well]: but if <02006> ye worship <05457> not, ye shall be cast

<07412> the same hour <08160> into the midst <01459> of a

burning <03345> fiery <05135> furnace <0861>; and who <04479>

[is] that God <0426> that shall deliver <07804> you out of my

hands <03028>?

 16 Shadrach <07715>, Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>,

answered <06032> and said <0560> to the king <04430>, O

Nebuchadnezzar <05020>, we [are] not careful <02818> to answer

<08421> thee in this <01836> matter <06600>.

17 If <02006> it be [so], our God <0426> whom <01768> we serve

<06399> is able <03202> to deliver <07804> us from the burning

<03345> fiery <05135> furnace <0861>, and he will deliver

<07804> [us] out of thine hand <03028>, O king <04430>.

18 But if not, be it known <03046> unto thee, O king <04430>,

that we will not serve <06399> thy gods <0426>, nor <03809>

worship <05457> the golden <01722> image <06755> which <01768>

thou hast set <06966> up.

 19. Then <0116> was Nebuchadnezzar <05020> full <04391> of fury

<02528>, and the form <06755> of his visage <0600> was changed

<08133> against <05922> Shadrach <07715>, Meshach <04336>, and

Abednego <05665>: [therefore] he spake <06032>, and commanded

<0560> that they should heat <0228> the furnace <0861> one

<02298> seven <07655> times more <05922> than <01768> it was

wont <02370> to be heated <0228>.

20 And he commanded <0560> the most <02429> mighty <01401> men

<01400> that [were] in his army <02429> to bind <03729> Shadrach

<07715>, Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>, [and] to cast

<07412> [them] into the burning <03345> fiery <05135> furnace

<0861>.

 21 Then <0116> these <0479> men <01400> were bound <03729> in

their coats <05622>, their hosen <06361>, and their hats <03737>,

and their [other] garments <03831>, and were cast <07412> into

the midst <01459> of the burning <03345> fiery <05135> furnace

<0861>.

 22 Therefore because the king's <04430> commandment <04406> was

urgent <02685>, and the furnace <0861> exceeding <02493> hot

<0228>, the flame <07631> of the fire <05135> slew <06992> those

<0479> men <01400> that took <05267> up Shadrach <07715>,

Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>.

 23 And these <0479> three <08532> men <01400>, Shadrach <07715>,

Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>, fell <05308> down bound

<03729> into the midst <01459> of the burning <03345> fiery

<05135> furnace <0861>.

 24 Then <0116> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430> was

astonied <08429>, and rose <06965> up in haste <0927>, [and]

spake <06032>, and said <0560> unto his counsellors <01907>, Did

not we cast <07412> three <08532> men <01400> bound <03729> into

the midst <01459> of the fire <05135>? They answered <06032> and

said <0560> unto the king <04430>, True <03330>, O king <04430>.

 25 He answered <06032> and said <0560>, Lo <01888>, I see

<02370> four <0703> men <01400> loose <08271>, walking <01981>

in the midst <01459> of the fire <05135>, and they have <0383>

no <03809> hurt <02257>; and the form <07299> of the fourth

<07244> is like <01821> the Son <01247> of God <0426>.

 26 Then <0116> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> came <07127> near <07127>

to the mouth <08651> of the burning <03345> fiery <05135>

furnace <0861>, [and] spake <06032>, and said <0560>, Shadrach

<07715>, Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>, ye servants

<05649> of the most <05943> high <05943> God <0426>, come

<05312> forth <05312>, and come <0858> [hither]. Then <0116>

Shadrach <07715>, Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>, came

<05312> forth <05312> of the midst <01459> of the fire <05135>.

27 And the princes <0324>, governors <05461>, and captains

<06347>, and the king's <04430> counsellors <01907>, being

gathered <03673> together, saw <02370> these <0479> men <01400>,

upon whose <01768> bodies <01655> the fire <05135> had no

<03809> power <07981>, nor <03809> was an hair <08177> of their

head <07217> singed <02761>, neither <03809> were their coats

<05622> changed <08133>, nor <03809> the smell <07382> of fire

<05135> had passed <05709> on them.

 28. [Then] Nebuchadnezzar <05020> spake <06032>, and said

<0560>, Blessed <01289> [be] the God <0426> of Shadrach <07715>,

Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>, who <01768> hath sent

<07972> his angel <04398>, and delivered <07804> his servants

<05649> that trusted <07365> in him, and have changed <08133>

the king's <04430> word <04406>, and yielded <03052> their

bodies <01655>, that they might not serve <06399> nor <03809>

worship <05457> any <03606> god <0426>, except <03861> their own

God <0426>.

 29 Therefore I make <07761> a decree <02942>, That every

<03606> people <05972>, nation <0524>, and language <03961>,

which <01768> speak <0560> any thing amiss <07955> against

<05922> the God <0426> of Shadrach <07715>, Meshach <04336>, and

Abednego <05665>, shall be cut <05648> in pieces <01917>, and

their houses <01005> shall be made <07739> a dunghill <05122>:

because there is no <03809> other <0321> God <0426> that can

<03202> deliver <05338> after <01863> this <01836> sort.

 30 Then <0116> the king <04430> promoted <06744> Shadrach

<07715>, Meshach <04336>, and Abednego <05665>, in the province

<04082> of Babylon <0895>.

Daniel 4

 1. Nebuchadnezzar <05020> the king <04430>, unto all <03606>

people <05972>, nations <0524>, and languages <03961>, that

dwell <01753> in all <03606> the earth <0772>; Peace <08001> be

multiplied <07680> unto you.

 2 I thought it good <08232> to shew <02324> the signs <0852>

and wonders <08540> that the high <05943> God <0426> hath

wrought <05648> toward <05974> me.

3 How <04101> great <07260> [are] his signs <0852>! and how

<04101> mighty <08624> [are] his wonders <08540>! his kingdom

<04437> [is] an everlasting <05957> kingdom <04437>, and his

dominion <07985> [is] from generation <01859> to generation

<01859>.

 4. I Nebuchadnezzar <05020> was at rest <07954> in mine house

<01005>, and flourishing <07487> in my palace <01965>:

 5 I saw <02370> a dream <02493> which made me afraid <01763>,

and the thoughts <02031> upon my bed <04903> and the visions

<02376> of my head <07217> troubled <0927> me.

 6 Therefore made <07761> I a decree <02942> to bring <05924> in

all <03606> the wise <02445> [men] of Babylon <0895> before

<06925> me, that they might make known <03046> unto me the

interpretation <06591> of the dream <02493>.

7 Then <0116> came <05954> in the magicians <02749>, the

astrologers <0826>, the Chaldeans <03779>, and the soothsayers

<01505>: and I told <0560> the dream <02493> before <06925> them;

but they did not make known <03046> unto me the interpretation

<06591> thereof.

 8 But at <05706> the last <0318> Daniel <01841> came <05954> in

before me, whose <01768> name <08036> [was] Belteshazzar <01096>,

according to the name <08036> of my god <0426>, and in whom

<01768> [is] the spirit <07308> of the holy <06922> gods <0426>:

and before <06925> him I told <0560> the dream <02493>, [saying],

 9 O Belteshazzar <01096>, master <0729> of the magicians

<02749>, because <01768> I know <03046> that the spirit <07308>

of the holy <06922> gods <0426> [is] in thee, and no secret

<07328> troubleth <0598> thee, tell <0560> me the visions

<02376> of my dream <02493> that I have seen <02370>, and the

interpretation <06591> thereof.

10 Thus [were] the visions <02376> of mine head <07217> in my

bed <04903>; I saw <02370>, and behold <0431> a tree <0363> in

the midst <01459> of the earth <0772>, and the height <07314>

thereof [was] great <07690>.

11 The tree <0363> grew <07236>, and was strong <08631>, and

the height <07314> thereof reached <04291> unto heaven <08065>,

and the sight <02379> thereof to the end <05491> of all <03606>

the earth <0772>:

12 The leaves <06074> thereof [were] fair <08509>, and the

fruit <04> thereof much <07690>, and in it [was] meat <04203>

for all <03606>: the beasts <02423> of the field <01251> had

shadow <02927> under <08460> it, and the fowls <06853> of the

heaven <08065> dwelt <01753> in the boughs <06056> thereof, and

all <03606> flesh <01321> was fed <02110> of it.

13 I saw <02370> in the visions <02376> of my head <07217> upon

my bed <04903>, and, behold <0431>, a watcher <05894> and an

holy <06922> one came <05182> down <05182> from heaven <08065>;

 14 He cried <07123> aloud <02429>, and said <0560> thus <03652>,

Hew <01414> down the tree <0363>, and cut <07113> off his

branches <06056>, shake <05426> off <0575> his leaves <06074>,

and scatter <0921> his fruit <04>: let the beasts <02423> get

<05111> away <05111> from under <08478> it, and the fowls

<06853> from his branches <06056>:

15 Nevertheless <01297> leave <07662> the stump <06136> of his

roots <08330> in the earth <0772>, even with a band <0613> of

iron <06523> and brass <05174>, in the tender grass <01883> of

the field <01251>; and let it be wet <06647> with the dew

<02920> of heaven <08065>, and [let] his portion <02508> [be]

with the beasts <02423> in the grass <06211> of the earth <0772>:

 16 Let his heart <03825> be changed <08133> from man's <0606>,

and let a beast's <02423> heart <03825> be given <03052> unto

him; and let seven <07655> times <05732> pass <02499> over

<05922> him.

17 This matter <06600> [is] by the decree <01510> of the

watchers <05894>, and the demand <07595> by the word <03983> of

the holy <06922> ones: to the intent <01701> that the living

<02417> may know <03046> that the most <05943> High <05943>

ruleth <07980> in the kingdom <04437> of men <0606>, and giveth

<05415> it to whomsoever <04479> he will <06634>, and setteth

<06966> up over <05922> it the basest <08215> of men <0606>.

 18 This <01836> dream <02493> I king <04430> Nebuchadnezzar

<05020> have seen <02370>. Now thou, O Belteshazzar <01096>,

declare <0560> the interpretation <06591> thereof, forasmuch as

all <03606> the wise <02445> [men] of my kingdom <04437> are not

able <03202> to make known <03046> unto me the interpretation

<06591>: but thou [art] able <03546>; for the spirit <07308> of

the holy <06922> gods <0426> [is] in thee.

 19. Then <0116> Daniel <01841>, whose <01768> name <08036>

[was] Belteshazzar <01096>, was astonied <08075> for one <02298>

hour <08160>, and his thoughts <07476> troubled <0927> him. The

king <04430> spake <06032>, and said <0560>, Belteshazzar

<01096>, let not the dream <02493>, or the interpretation

<06591> thereof, trouble <0927> thee. Belteshazzar <01096>

answered <06032> and said <0560>, My lord <04756>, the dream

<02493> [be] to them that hate <08131> thee, and the

interpretation <06591> thereof to thine enemies <06146>.

20 The tree <0363> that thou sawest <02370>, which <01768> grew

<07236>, and was strong <08631>, whose height <07314> reached

<04291> unto the heaven <08065>, and the sight <02379> thereof

to all <03606> the earth <0772>;

21 Whose leaves <06074> [were] fair <08509>, and the fruit <04>

thereof much <07690>, and in it [was] meat <04203> for all

<03606>; under <08460> which the beasts <02423> of the field

<01251> dwelt <01753>, and upon whose branches <06056> the fowls

<06853> of the heaven <08065> had their habitation <07932>:

22 It [is] thou, O king <04430>, that art grown <07236> and

become <08631> strong <08631>: for thy greatness <07238> is

grown <07236>, and reacheth <04291> unto heaven <08065>, and thy

dominion <07985> to the end <05491> of the earth <0772>.

 23 And whereas <01768> the king <04430> saw <02370> a watcher

<05894> and an holy <06922> one coming <05182> down <05182> from

heaven <08065>, and saying <0560>, Hew <01414> the tree <0363>

down, and destroy <02255> it; yet <01297> leave <07662> the

stump <06136> of the roots <08330> thereof in the earth <0772>,

even with a band <0613> of iron <06523> and brass <05174>, in

the tender grass <01883> of the field <01251>; and let it be wet

<06647> with the dew <02920> of heaven <08065>, and [let] his

portion <02508> [be] with the beasts <02423> of the field

<01251>, till <05704> seven <07655> times <05732> pass <02499>

over <05922> him;

 24 This <01836> [is] the interpretation <06591>, O king <04430>,

and this <01931> [is] the decree <01510> of the most <05943>

High <05943>, which <01768> is come <04291> upon my lord <04756>

the king <04430>:

25 That they shall drive <02957> thee from men <0606>, and thy

dwelling <04070> shall be with the beasts <02423> of the field

<01251>, and they shall make thee to eat <02939> grass <06211>

as oxen <08450>, and they shall wet <06647> thee with the dew

<02920> of heaven <08065>, and seven <07655> times <05732> shall

pass <02499> over <05922> thee, till <05704> thou know <03046>

that the most <05943> High ruleth <07980> in the kingdom <04437>

of men <0606>, and giveth <05415> it to whomsoever <04479> he

will <06634>.

26 And whereas <01768> they commanded <0560> to leave <07662>

the stump <06136> of the tree <0363> roots <08330>; thy kingdom

<04437> shall be sure <07011> unto thee, after <01767> that thou

shalt have known <03046> that the heavens <08065> do rule

<07990>.

 27 Wherefore <03861>, O king <04430>, let my counsel <04431> be

acceptable <08232> unto thee, and break <06562> off thy sins

<02408> by righteousness <06665>, and thine iniquities <05758>

by shewing mercy <02604> to the poor <06033>; if <02006> it may

be a lengthening <0754> of thy tranquillity <07963>.

 28. All <03606> this came <04291> upon the king <04430>

Nebuchadnezzar <05020>.

29 At the end <07118> of twelve months <03393> he walked

<01981> in the palace <01965> of the kingdom <04437> of Babylon

<0895>.

30 The king <04430> spake <06032>, and said <0560>, Is not this

<01668> great <07227> Babylon <0895>, that I have built <01124>

for the house <01005> of the kingdom <04437> by the might

<08632> of my power <02632>, and for the honour <03367> of my

majesty <01923>?

 31 While <05751> the word <04406> [was] in the king's <04430>

mouth <06433>, there fell <05308> a voice <07032> from heaven

<08065>, [saying], O king <04430> Nebuchadnezzar <05020>, to

thee it is spoken <0560>; The kingdom <04437> is departed

<05709> from thee.

32 And they shall drive <02957> thee from men <0606>, and thy

dwelling <04070> [shall be] with the beasts <02423> of the field

<01251>: they shall make thee to eat <02939> grass <06211> as

oxen <08450>, and seven <07655> times <05732> shall pass <02499>

over <05922> thee, until <05704> thou know <03046> that the most

<05943> High <05943> ruleth <07980> in the kingdom <04437> of

men <0606>, and giveth <05415> it to whomsoever <04479> he will

<06634>.

33 The same hour <08160> was the thing <04406> fulfilled

<05487> upon Nebuchadnezzar <05020>: and he was driven <02957>

from men <0606>, and did eat <0399> grass <06211> as oxen

<08450>, and his body <01655> was wet <06647> with the dew

<02920> of heaven <08065>, till <05704> his hairs <08177> were

grown <07236> like eagles <05403>' [feathers], and his nails

<02953> like birds <06853>' [claws].

 34. And at the end <07118> of the days <03118> I Nebuchadnezzar

<05020> lifted <05191> up mine eyes <05870> unto heaven <08065>,

and mine understanding <04486> returned <07725> unto me, and I

blessed <01289> the most <05943> High <05943>, and I praised

<07624> and honoured <01922> him that liveth <02416> for ever

<05957>, whose <01768> dominion <07985> [is] an everlasting

<05957> dominion <07985>, and his kingdom <04437> [is] from

generation <01859> to generation <01859>:

35 And all <03606> the inhabitants <01753> of the earth <0772>

[are] reputed <02804> as nothing <03809>: and he doeth <05648>

according to his will <06634> in the army <02429> of heaven

<08065>, and [among] the inhabitants <01753> of the earth <0772>:

and none <03809> can stay <04223> his hand <03028>, or say

<0560> unto him, What <04101> doest <05648> thou?

36 At the same time <02166> my reason <04486> returned <07725>

unto me; and for the glory <03367> of my kingdom <04437>, mine

honour <01923> and brightness <02122> returned <07725> unto me;

and my counsellors <01907> and my lords <07261> sought <01158>

unto me; and I was established <08627> in my kingdom <04437>,

and excellent <03493> majesty <07238> was added <03255> unto me.

 37 Now <03705> I Nebuchadnezzar <05020> praise <07624> and

extol <07313> and honour <01922> the King <04430> of heaven

<08065>, all <03606> whose works <04567> [are] truth <07187>,

and his ways <0735> judgment <01780>: and those <01768> that

walk <01980> in pride <01466> he is able <03202> to abase

<08214>.

Daniel 5

 1. Belshazzar <01113> the king <04430> made <05648> a great

<07227> feast <03900> to a thousand <0506> of his lords <07261>,

and drank <08355> wine <02562> before <06903> the thousand

<0506>.

2 Belshazzar <01113>, whiles he tasted <02942> the wine <02562>,

commanded <0560> to bring <0858> the golden <01722> and silver

<03702> vessels <03984> which <01768> his father <02>

Nebuchadnezzar <05020> had taken <05312> out of the temple

<01965> which <01768> [was] in Jerusalem <03390>; that the king

<04430>, and his princes <07261>, his wives <07695>, and his

concubines <03904>, might drink <08355> therein.

3 Then <0116> they brought <0858> the golden <01722> vessels

<03984> that were taken <05312> out of the temple <01965> of the

house <01005> of God <0426> which <01768> [was] at Jerusalem

<03390>; and the king <04430>, and his princes <07261>, his

wives <07695>, and his concubines <03904>, drank <08355> in them.

4 They drank <08355> wine <02562>, and praised <07624> the gods

<0426> of gold <01722>, and of silver <03702>, of brass <05174>,

of iron <06523>, of wood <0636>, and of stone <069>.

5 In the same hour <08160> came <05312> forth <05312> fingers

<0677> of a man's <0606> hand <03028>, and wrote <03790> over

<06903> against <06903> the candlestick <05043> upon the

plaister <01528> of the wall <03797> of the king's <04430>

palace <01965>: and the king <04430> saw <02370> the part

<06447> of the hand <03028> that wrote <03790>.

 6 Then <0116> the king's <04430> countenance <02122> was

changed <08133>, and his thoughts <07476> troubled <0927> him,

so that the joints <07001> of his loins <02788> were loosed

<08271>, and his knees <0755> smote <05368> one <01668> against

another <01668>.

 7 The king <04430> cried <07123> aloud <02429> to bring <05924>

in the astrologers <0826>, the Chaldeans <03779>, and the

soothsayers <01505>. [And] the king <04430> spake <06032>, and

said <0560> to the wise <02445> [men] of Babylon <0895>,

Whosoever <03605> shall read <07123> this <01836> writing

<03792>, and shew <02324> me the interpretation <06591> thereof,

shall be clothed <03848> with scarlet <0711>, and [have] a chain

<02002> of gold <01722> about <05922> his neck <06676>, and

shall be the third <08523> ruler <07981> in the kingdom <04437>.

 8 Then <0116> came <05954> in all <03606> the king's <04430>

wise <02445> [men]: but they could <03546> not read <07123> the

writing <03792>, nor make known <03046> to the king <04430> the

interpretation <06591> thereof.

 9 Then <0116> was king <04430> Belshazzar <01113> greatly

<07690> troubled <0927>, and his countenance <02122> was changed

<08133> in him, and his lords <07261> were astonied <02672>.

 10. [Now] the queen <04433>, by reason <06903> of the words

<04406> of the king <04430> and his lords <07261>, came <05954>

into the banquet <04961> house <01005>: [and] the queen <04433>

spake <06032> and said <0560>, O king <04430>, live <02414> for

ever <05957>: let not thy thoughts <07476> trouble <0927> thee,

nor <0408> let thy countenance <02122> be changed <08133>:

11 There is a man <01400> in thy kingdom <04437>, in whom

<01768> [is] the spirit <07308> of the holy <06922> gods <0426>;

and in the days <03118> of thy father <02> light <05094> and

understanding <07924> and wisdom <02452>, like the wisdom

<02452> of the gods <0426>, was found <07912> in him; whom the

king <04430> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> thy father <02>, the king

<04430>, [I say], thy father <02>, made master <0729> of the

magicians <02749>, astrologers <0826>, Chaldeans <03779>, [and]

soothsayers <01505>;

12 Forasmuch as an excellent <03493> spirit <07308>, and

knowledge <0998>, and understanding <07924>, interpreting

<06591> of dreams <02493>, and shewing <0263> of hard <0280>

sentences <0280>, and dissolving <08271> of doubts <07001>, were

found <07912> in the same Daniel <01841>, whom <01768> the king

<04430> named <08036> Belteshazzar <01096>: now <03705> let

Daniel <01841> be called <07123>, and he will shew <05046> the

interpretation <06591>.

13 Then <0116> was Daniel <01841> brought <05954> in before

<06925> the king <04430>. [And] the king <04430> spake <06032>

and said <0560> unto Daniel <01841>, [Art] thou that Daniel

<01841>, which <01768> [art] of the children <01123> of the

captivity <01547> of Judah <03061>, whom <01768> the king

<04430> my father <02> brought <0858> out of Jewry <03061>?

14 I have even heard <08086> of thee, that the spirit <07308>

of the gods <0426> [is] in thee, and [that] light <05094> and

understanding <07924> and excellent <03493> wisdom <02452> is

found <07912> in thee.

15 And now <03705> the wise <02445> [men], the astrologers

<0826>, have been brought <05954> in before <06925> me, that

they should read <07123> this <01836> writing <03792>, and make

known <03046> unto me the interpretation <06591> thereof: but

they could <05346> not shew <02324> the interpretation <06591>

of the thing <04406>:

16 And I have heard <08086> of thee, that thou canst <03202>

make interpretations <06591>, and dissolve <08271> doubts

<07001>: now <03705> if <02006> thou canst <03202> read <07123>

the writing <03792>, and make known <03046> to me the

interpretation <06591> thereof, thou shalt be clothed <03848>

with scarlet <0711>, and [have] a chain <02002> of gold <01722>

about <05922> thy neck <06676>, and shalt be the third <08531>

ruler <07981> in the kingdom <04437>.

 17 Then <0116> Daniel <01841> answered <06032> and said <0560>

before <06925> the king <04430>, Let thy gifts <04978> be to

thyself, and give <03052> thy rewards <05023> to another <0321>;

yet <01297> I will read <07123> the writing <03792> unto the

king <04430>, and make known <03046> to him the interpretation

<06591>.

 18 O thou king <04430>, the most <05943> high <05943> God

<0426> gave <03052> Nebuchadnezzar <05020> thy father <02> a

kingdom <04437>, and majesty <07238>, and glory <03367>, and

honour <01923>:

19 And for the majesty <07238> that he gave <03052> him, all

<03606> people <05972>, nations <0524>, and languages <03961>,

trembled <02112> and feared <01763> before him: whom <01768> he

would <06634> he slew <06992>; and whom <01768> he would <06634>

he kept alive <02418>; and whom <01768> he would <06634> he set

<07313> up; and whom he would <06634> he put <08214> down

<08214>.

20 But when <01768> his heart <03825> was lifted <07313> up,

and his mind <07307> hardened <08631> in pride <02103>, he was

deposed <05182> from his kingly <04437> throne <03764>, and they

took <05709> his glory <03367> from him:

21 And he was driven <02957> from the sons <01123> of men

<0606>; and his heart <03825> was made <07737> like <05974> the

beasts <02423>, and his dwelling <04070> [was] with the wild

<06167> asses <06167>: they fed <02939> him with grass <06211>

like oxen <08450>, and his body <01655> was wet <06647> with the

dew <02920> of heaven <08065>; till <05704> he knew <03046> that

the most <05943> high <05943> God <0426> ruled <07990> in the

kingdom <04437> of men <0606>, and [that] he appointeth <06966>

over <05922> it whomsoever he will <06634>.

22 And thou his son <01247>, O Belshazzar <01113>, hast not

humbled <08214> thine heart <03825>, though thou knewest <03046>

all <03606> this <01836>;

23 But hast lifted <07313> up thyself against <05922> the Lord

<04756> of heaven <08065>; and they have brought <0858> the

vessels <03984> of his house <01005> before <06925> thee, and

thou, and thy lords <07261>, thy wives <07695>, and thy

concubines <03904>, have drunk <08355> wine <02562> in them; and

thou hast praised <07624> the gods <0426> of silver <03702>, and

gold <01722>, of brass <05174>, iron <06523>, wood <0636>, and

stone <069>, which <01768> see <02370> not, nor <03809> hear

<08086>, nor <03809> know <03046>: and the God <0426> in whose

<01768> hand <03028> thy breath <05396> [is], and whose [are]

all <03606> thy ways <0735>, hast thou not glorified <01922>:

24 Then <0116> was the part <06447> of the hand <03028> sent

<07972> from him; and this <01836> writing <03792> was written

<07560>.

25 And this <01836> [is] the writing <03792> that was written

<07560>, MENE <04484>, MENE <04484>, TEKEL <08625>, UPHARSIN

<06537>.

26 This <01836> [is] the interpretation <06591> of the thing

<04406>: MENE <04484>; God <0426> hath numbered <04483> thy

kingdom <04437>, and finished <08000> it.

27 TEKEL <08625>; Thou art weighed <08625> in the balances

<03976>, and art found <07912> wanting <02627>.

28 PERES <06537>; Thy kingdom <04437> is divided <06537>, and

given <03052> to the Medes <04076> and Persians <06540>.

 29 Then <0116> commanded <0560> Belshazzar <01113>, and they

clothed <03848> Daniel <01841> with scarlet <0711>, and [put] a

chain <02002> of gold <01722> about <05922> his neck <06676>,

and made a proclamation <03745> concerning <05922> him, that he

should be the third <08531> ruler <07990> in the kingdom <04437>.

 30. In that night <03916> was Belshazzar <01113> the king

<04430> of the Chaldeans <03779> slain <06992>.

31 And Darius <01868> the Median <04077> took <06902> the

kingdom <04437>, [being] about threescore <08361> and two

<08648> years <08140> old <01247>.

Daniel 6

 1. It pleased <08232> Darius <01868> to set <03966> over

<05922> the kingdom <04437> an hundred <03969> and twenty

<06243> princes <0324>, which <01768> should be over the whole

<03606> kingdom <04437>;

 2 And over <05924> these <04481> three <08532> presidents

<05632>; of whom Daniel <01841> [was] first <02298>: that the

princes <0324> might give <03052> accounts <02941> unto them,

and the king <04430> should have <01934> no <03809> damage

<05142>.

 3 Then <0116> this <01836> Daniel <01841> was preferred <05330>

above <05922> the presidents <05632> and princes <0324>, because

an excellent <03493> spirit <07308> [was] in him; and the king

<04430> thought <06246> to set <03966> him over <05922> the

whole <03606> realm <04437>.

4 Then <0116> the presidents <05632> and princes <0324> sought

<01158> to find <07912> occasion <05931> against Daniel <01841>

concerning <06655> the kingdom <04437>; but they could <03202>

find <07912> none <03809> occasion <05931> nor <03809> fault

<07844>; forasmuch as he [was] faithful <0540>, neither <03809>

was there any <03606> error <07960> or fault <07844> found

<07912> in him.

 5 Then <0116> said <0560> these <0479> men <01400>, We shall

not find <07912> any <03606> occasion <05931> against <05922>

this <01836> Daniel <01841>, except <03861> we find <07912> [it]

against him concerning the law <01882> of his God <0426>.

 6. Then <0116> these <0459> presidents <05632> and princes

<0324> assembled <07284> together to the king <04430>, and said

<0560> thus <03652> unto him, King <04430> Darius <01868>, live

<02414> for ever <05757>.

7 All <03606> the presidents <05632> of the kingdom <04437>,

the governors <05461>, and the princes <0324>, the counsellors

<01907>, and the captains <06347>, have consulted <03272>

together to establish <06966> a royal <04430> statute <07010>,

and to make a firm <08631> decree <0633>, that whosoever <03605>

shall ask <01156> a petition <01159> of any <03606> God <0426>

or man <0606> for thirty <08533> days <03118>, save <03861> of

thee, O king <04430>, he shall be cast <07412> into the den

<01358> of lions <0744>.

 8 Now <03705>, O king <04430>, establish <06966> the decree

<0633>, and sign <07560> the writing <03792>, that it be not

changed <08133>, according to the law <01882> of the Medes

<04076> and Persians <06540>, which <01768> altereth <05709> not.

 9 Wherefore king <04430> Darius <01868> signed <07560> the

writing <03792> and the decree <0633>.

 10 Now <01768> when <01768> Daniel <01841> knew <03046> that

the writing <03792> was signed <07560>, he went <05954> into his

house <01005>; and his windows <03551> being open <06606> in his

chamber <05952> toward <05049> Jerusalem <03390>, he kneeled

<01289> upon his knees <01291> three <08532> times <02166> a day

<03118>, and prayed <06739>, and gave thanks <03029> before

<06925> his God <0426>, as he did <05648> aforetime.

 11. Then <0116> these <0479> men <01400> assembled <07284>, and

found <07912> Daniel <01841> praying <01156> and making

supplication <02604> before <06925> his God <0426>.

 12 Then <0116> they came <07127> near <07127>, and spake <0560>

before <06925> the king <04430> concerning <05922> the king's

<04430> decree <0633>; Hast thou not signed <07560> a decree

<0633>, that every <03606> man <0606> that shall ask <01156> [a

petition] of any <03606> God <0426> or man <0606> within <05705>

thirty <08533> days <03118>, save <03861> of thee, O king

<04430>, shall be cast <07412> into the den <01358> of lions

<0744>? The king <04430> answered <06032> and said <0560>, The

thing <04406> [is] true <03330>, according to the law <01882> of

the Medes <04076> and Persians <06540>, which <01768> altereth

<05709> not.

13 Then <0116> answered <06032> they and said <0560> before

<06925> the king <04430>, That Daniel <01841>, which <01768>

[is] of the children <01123> of the captivity <01547> of Judah

<03061>, regardeth not thee, O king <04430>, nor the decree

<0633> that thou hast signed <07560>, but maketh his petition

<01159> three <08532> times <02166> a day <03118>.

 14 Then <0116> the king <04430>, when <01768> he heard <08086>

[these] words <04406>, was sore <07690> displeased <0888> with

himself, and set <07761> [his] heart <01079> on <05922> Daniel

<01841> to deliver <07804> him: and he laboured <07712> till

<05704> the going <04606> down <04606> of the sun <08122> to

deliver <05338> him.

 15 Then <0116> these <0479> men <01400> assembled <07284> unto

the king <04430>, and said <0560> unto the king <04430>, Know

<03046>, O king <04430>, that the law <01882> of the Medes

<04076> and Persians <06540> [is], That no decree <0633> nor

statute <07010> which <01768> the king <04430> establisheth

<06966> may be changed <08133>.

16 Then <0116> the king <04430> commanded <0560>, and they

brought <0858> Daniel <01841>, and cast <07412> [him] into the

den <01358> of lions <0744>. [Now <0116>] the king <04430> spake

<06032> and said <0560> unto Daniel <01841>, Thy God <0426> whom

<01768> thou servest <06399> continually <08411>, he will

deliver <07804> thee.

 17 And a stone <069> was brought <0858>, and laid <07760> upon

the mouth <06433> of the den <01358>; and the king <04430>

sealed <02857> it with his own signet <05824>, and with the

signet <05824> of his lords <07261>; that the purpose <06640>

might not be changed <08133> concerning Daniel <01841>.

 18. Then <0116> the king <04430> went <0236> to his palace

<01965>, and passed the night <0956> fasting <02908>: neither

<03809> were instruments <01761> of musick brought <05954>

before <06925> him: and his sleep <08139> went <05075> from him.

19 Then <0116> the king <04430> arose <06966> very early

<08238> in the morning <05053>, and went <0236> in haste <0927>

unto the den <01358> of lions <0744>.

20 And when he came <07127> to the den <01358>, he cried

<02200> with a lamentable <06088> voice <07032> unto Daniel

<01841>: [and] the king <04430> spake <06032> and said <0560> to

Daniel <01841>, O Daniel <01841>, servant <05649> of the living

<02417> God <0426>, is thy God <0426>, whom <01768> thou servest

<06399> continually <08411>, able <03202> to deliver <07804>

thee from the lions <0744>?

21 Then <0116> said <04449> Daniel <01841> unto the king

<04430>, O king <04430>, live <02414> for ever <05957>.

22 My God <0426> hath sent <07972> his angel <04398>, and hath

shut <05463> the lions <0744>' mouths <06433>, that they have

not hurt <02255> me: forasmuch as before <06925> him innocency

<02136> was found <07912> in me; and also <0638> before <06925>

thee, O king <04430>, have I done <05648> no <03809> hurt

<02248>.

23 Then <0116> was the king <04430> exceeding <07689> glad

<02868> for him, and commanded <0560> that they should take

<05267> Daniel <01841> up out of the den <01358>. So Daniel

<01841> was taken <05267> up out of the den <01358>, and no

manner of hurt <02257> was found <07912> upon him, because

<01768> he believed <0540> in his God <0426>.

24 And the king <04430> commanded <0560>, and they brought

<0858> those <0479> men <01400> which <01768> had accused

<07170> Daniel <01841>, and they cast <07412> [them] into the

den <01358> of lions <0744>, them, their children <01123>, and

their wives <05389>; and the lions <0744> had the mastery

<06981> of them, and brake <01855> all <03606> their bones

<01635> in pieces or ever <03809> they came <04291> at the

bottom <0773> of the den <01358>.

 25. Then <0116> king <04430> Darius <01868> wrote <03790> unto

all <03606> people <05972>, nations <0524>, and languages

<03961>, that dwell <01753> in all <03606> the earth <0772>;

Peace <08001> be multiplied <07680> unto you.

 26 I make <07761> a decree <02942>, That in every <03606>

dominion <07985> of my kingdom <04437> men tremble <02112> and

fear <01763> before the God <0426> of Daniel <01841>: for he

[is] the living <02417> God <0426>, and stedfast <07011> for

ever <05957>, and his kingdom <04437> [that] which <01768> shall

not be destroyed <02255>, and his dominion <07985> [shall be

even] unto the end <05491>.

27 He delivereth <07804> and rescueth <05338>, and he worketh

<05648> signs <0852> and wonders <08540> in heaven <08065> and

in earth <0772>, who <01768> hath delivered <07804> Daniel

<01841> from the power <03028> of the lions <0744>.

28 So this <01836> Daniel <01841> prospered <06744> in the

reign <04437> of Darius <01868>, and in the reign <04437> of

Cyrus <03567> the Persian <06523>.

Daniel 7

 1. In the first <02298> year <08140> of Belshazzar <01113> king

<04430> of Babylon <0895> Daniel <01841> had <02370> a dream

<02493> and visions <02376> of his head <07217> upon his bed

<04903>: then <0116> he wrote <03790> the dream <02493>, [and]

told <0560> the sum <07217> of the matters <04406>.

 2 Daniel <01841> spake <06032> and said <0560>, I saw <02370>

in my vision <02376> by night <03916>, and, behold <0718>, the

four <0703> winds <07308> of the heaven <08065> strove <01519>

upon the great <07227> sea <03221>.

 3 And four <0703> great <07260> beasts <02423> came <05559> up

from the sea <03221>, diverse <08133> one <01668> from another

<01668>.

 4 The first <06933> [was] like a lion <0738>, and had eagle's

<05403> wings <01611>: I beheld till <05704> the wings <01611>

thereof were plucked <04804>, and it was lifted <05191> up from

the earth <0772>, and made stand <06966> upon the feet <07271>

as a man <0606>, and a man's <0606> heart <03825> was given

<03052> to it.

 5 And behold <0718> another <0317> beast <02423>, a second

<08578>, like <01821> to a bear <01678>, and it raised <06966>

up itself on one <02298> side <07859>, and [it had] three

<08532> ribs <06763> in the mouth <06433> of it between <0997>

the teeth <08128> of it: and they said <0560> thus <03652> unto

it, Arise <06965>, devour <0399> much <07690> flesh <01321>.

 6 After <0870> this <01836> I beheld, and lo <0718> another

<0317>, like a leopard <05245>, which <01768> had upon the back

<01355> of it four <0703> wings <01611> of a fowl <05776>; the

beast <02423> had also four <0703> heads <07217>; and dominion

<07985> was given <03052> to it.

 7 After <0870> this <01836> I saw <02370> in the night <03916>

visions <02376>, and behold <0718> a fourth <07244> beast

<02423>, dreadful <01763> and terrible <0574>, and strong

<08624> exceedingly <03493>; and it had great <07260> iron

<06523> teeth <08128>: it devoured <0399> and brake <01855> in

pieces, and stamped <07512> the residue <07606> with the feet

<07271> of it: and it [was] diverse <08133> from all <03606> the

beasts <02423> that [were] before <06925> it; and it had ten

<06236> horns <07162>.

 8 I considered <07920> the horns <07162>, and, behold <0431>,

there came <05559> up among <0997> them another <0317> little

<02192> horn <07162>, before <06925> whom there were three

<08532> of the first <06933> horns <07162> plucked <06132> up by

the roots <06132>: and, behold <0431>, in this <01668> horn

<07162> [were] eyes <05870> like the eyes <05870> of man <0606>,

and a mouth <06433> speaking <04449> great <07260> things.

 9. I beheld till <05704> the thrones <03764> were cast <07412>

down, and the Ancient <06268> of days <03118> did sit <03488>,

whose garment <03831> [was] white as snow <08517>, and the hair

<08177> of his head <07217> like the pure <05343> wool <06015>:

his throne <03764> [was like] the fiery <05135> flame <07631>,

[and] his wheels <01535> [as] burning <01815> fire <05135>.

 10 A fiery <05135> stream <05103> issued <05047> and came

<05312> forth <05312> from before <06925> him: thousand <0506>

thousands <0506> ministered <08120> unto him, and ten <07240>

thousand <07240> times ten <07240> thousand <07240> stood

<06966> before <06925> him: the judgment <01780> was set <03488>,

and the books <05609> were opened <06606>.

 11 I beheld then <0116> because <04481> of the voice <07032> of

the great <07260> words <04406> which <01768> the horn <07162>

spake <04449>: I beheld [even <05705>] till <05704> the beast

<02423> was slain <06992>, and his body <01655> destroyed <07>,

and given <03052> to the burning <03346> flame <0785>.

12 As concerning the rest <07606> of the beasts <02423>, they

had their dominion <07985> taken <05709> away <05709>: yet their

lives <02417> were prolonged for a season <02166> and time

<05732>.

 13 I saw <02370> in the night <06916> visions <02376>, and,

behold <0718>, [one] like the Son <01247> of man <0606> came

with the clouds <06050> of heaven <08065>, and came <04291> to

the Ancient <06268> of days <03118>, and they brought <07127>

him near <07127> before <06925> him.

14 And there was given <03052> him dominion <07985>, and glory

<03367>, and a kingdom <04437>, that all <03606> people <05972>,

nations <0524>, and languages <03961>, should serve <06399> him:

his dominion <07985> [is] an everlasting <05957> dominion

<07985>, which <01768> shall not pass <05709> away <05709>, and

his kingdom <04437> [that] which <01768> shall not be destroyed

<02255>.

 15. I Daniel <01841> was grieved <03735> in my spirit <07308>

in the midst <01459> of [my] body <05085>, and the visions

<02376> of my head <07217> troubled <0927> me.

 16 I came <07127> near <07127> unto one <02298> of them that

stood <06966> by, and asked <01156> him the truth <03330> of all

<03606> this <01836>. So he told <0560> me, and made me know

<03046> the interpretation <06591> of the things <04406>.

 17 These <0459> great <07260> beasts <02423>, which <01768> are

four <0703>, [are] four <0703> kings <04430>, [which] shall

arise <06965> out of the earth <0772>.

18 But the saints <06922> of the most <05946> High <05946>

shall take <06902> the kingdom <04437>, and possess <02631> the

kingdom <04437> for ever <05957>, even <05705> for ever <05957>

and ever <05957>.

 19 Then <0116> I would <06634> know <03046> the truth <03321>

of the fourth <07244> beast <02423>, which <01768> was diverse

<08133> from all <03606> the others, exceeding <03493> dreadful

<01763>, whose <01768> teeth <08128> [were of] iron <06523>, and

his nails <02953> [of] brass <05174>; [which] devoured <0399>,

brake <01855> in pieces, and stamped <07512> the residue <07606>

with his feet <07271>;

20 And of the ten <06236> horns <07162> that [were] in his head

<07217>, and [of] the other <0317> which <01768> came <05559> up,

and before whom <04479> three <08532> fell <05308>; even [of]

that horn <07162> that had eyes <05870>, and a mouth <06433>

that spake <04449> very <07260> great <07260> things, whose look

<02376> [was] more <05750> stout <07229> than <04481> his

fellows <02273>.

 21 I beheld, and the same <01797> horn <07162> made <05648> war

<07129> with the saints <06922>, and prevailed <03202> against

them;

22 Until <05704> the Ancient <06268> of days <03118> came

<0858>, and judgment <01780> was given <03052> to the saints

<06922> of the most <05946> High <05946>; and the time <02166>

came <04291> that the saints <06922> possessed <02631> the

kingdom <04437>.

23 Thus <03652> he said <0560>, The fourth <07244> beast

<02423> shall be the fourth <07244> kingdom <04437> upon earth

<0772>, which <01768> shall be diverse <08133> from all <03606>

kingdoms <04437>, and shall devour <0399> the whole <03606>

earth <0772>, and shall tread <01759> it down, and break <01854>

it in pieces.

24 And the ten <06236> horns <07162> out of this kingdom

<04437> [are] ten <06236> kings <04430> [that] shall arise

<06965>: and another <0312> shall rise <06966> after <0311> them;

and he shall be diverse <08133> from the first <06933>, and he

shall subdue <08214> three <08532> kings <04430>.

25 And he shall speak <04449> [great] words <04406> against

<06655> the most <05943> High <05943>, and shall wear <01080>

out the saints <06922> of the most <05946> High <05946>, and

think <05452> to change <08133> times <02166> and laws <01882>:

and they shall be given <03052> into his hand <03028> until

<05704> a time <05732> and times <05732> and the dividing

<06387> of time <05732>.

26 But the judgment <01780> shall sit <03488>, and they shall

take <05709> away <05709> his dominion <07985>, to consume

<08046> and to destroy <07> [it] unto the end <05491>.

27 And the kingdom <04437> and dominion <07985>, and the

greatness <07238> of the kingdom <04437> under <08460> the whole

<03606> heaven <08065>, shall be given <03052> to the people

<05972> of the saints <06922> of the most <05945> High <05946>,

whose kingdom <04437> [is] an everlasting <05957> kingdom

<04437>, and all <03606> dominions <07985> shall serve <06399>

and obey <08086> him.

28 Hitherto [is] the end <05491> of the matter <04406>. As for

me Daniel <01841>, my cogitations <07476> much <07690> troubled

<0927> me, and my countenance <02122> changed <08133> in me: but

I kept <05202> the matter <04406> in my heart <03821>.

Daniel 8

 1. In the third <07969> year <08141> of the reign <04438> of

king <04428> Belshazzar <01113> a vision <02377> appeared

<07200> unto me, [even unto] me Daniel <01840>, after <0310>

that which appeared <07200> unto me at the first <08462>.

 2 And I saw <07200> in a vision <02377>; and it came <01961> to

pass, when I saw <07200>, that I [was] at Shushan <07800> [in]

the palace <01002>, which <0834> [is] in the province <04082> of

Elam <05867>; and I saw <07200> in a vision <02377>, and I was

by the river <0180> of Ulai <0195>.

 3 Then I lifted <05375> up mine eyes <05869>, and saw <07200>,

and, behold <02009>, there stood <05975> before <06440> the

river <0180> a ram <0352> which had [two] horns <07161>: and the

[two] horns <07161> [were] high <01364>; but one <0259> [was]

higher <01364> than <04480> the other <08145>, and the higher

<01364> came <05927> up last <0314>.

 4 I saw <07200> the ram <0352> pushing <05055> westward <03220>,

and northward <06828>, and southward <05045>; so that no

<03808> beasts <02416> might stand <05975> before <06440> him,

neither <0369> [was there any] that could deliver <05337> out of

his hand <03027>; but he did <06213> according to his will

<07522>, and became <01431> great <01431>.

5 And as I was considering <0995>, behold <02009>, an he goat

<05795> came <0935> from the west <04628> on the face <06440> of

the whole <03605> earth <0776>, and touched <05060> not the

ground <0776>: and the goat <06842> [had] a notable <02380> horn

<07161> between <0996> his eyes <05869>.

6 And he came <0935> to the ram <0352> that had [two] horns

<07161>, which <0834> I had seen <07200> standing <05975> before

<06440> the river <0180>, and ran <07323> unto him in the fury

<02534> of his power <03581>.

7 And I saw <07200> him come <05060> close <0681> unto the ram

<0352>, and he was moved with choler <04843> against <0413> him,

and smote <05221> the ram <0352>, and brake <07665> his two

<08147> horns <07161>: and there was no <03808> power <03581> in

the ram <0352> to stand <05975> before <06440> him, but he cast

<07993> him down to the ground <0776>, and stamped <07429> upon

him: and there was none <03808> that could deliver <05337> the

ram <0352> out of his hand <03027>.

8 Therefore the he goat <06842> waxed very great <01431>: and

when he was strong <06105>, the great <01419> horn <07161> was

broken <07665>; and for it came <05927> up four <0702> notable

<02380> ones toward the four <0702> winds <07307> of heaven

<08064>.

9 And out of one <0259> of them came <03318> forth <03318> a

little <04704> horn <07161>, which waxed exceeding <03499> great

<01431>, toward <0413> the south <05045>, and toward <0413> the

east <04217>, and toward <0413> the pleasant <06643> [land].

10 And it waxed great <01431>, [even] to the host <06635> of

heaven <08064>; and it cast <05307> down <05307> [some] of the

host <06635> and of the stars <03556> to the ground <0776>, and

stamped <07429> upon them.

11 Yea, he magnified <01431> [himself] even to the prince

<08269> of the host <06635>, and by him the daily <08548>

[sacrifice] was taken <07311> away <07311>, and the place

<04349> of his sanctuary <04720> was cast <07993> down.

12 And an host <06635> was given <05414> [him] against <05921>

the daily <08548> [sacrifice] by reason of transgression <06588>,

 and it cast <07993> down the truth <0571> to the ground <0776>;

and it practised <06213>, and prospered <06743>.

 13 Then I heard <08085> one <0259> saint <06918> speaking

<01696>, and another <0259> saint <06918> said <0559> unto that

certain <06422> [saint] which spake <01696>, How <05704> long

<05704> [shall be] the vision <02377> [concerning] the daily

<08548> [sacrifice], and the transgression <06588> of desolation

<08074>, to give <05414> both the sanctuary <06944> and the host

<06635> to be trodden <04823> under foot <04823>?

14 And he said <0559> unto me, Unto two thousand <0505> and

three <07969> hundred <03967> days; then shall the sanctuary

<06944> be cleansed <06663>.

 15. And it came <01961> to pass, when I, [even] I Daniel

<01840>, had seen <07200> the vision <02377>, and sought <01245>

for the meaning <0998>, then, behold <02009>, there stood

<05975> before <05048> me as the appearance <04758> of a man

<01397>.

 16 And I heard <08085> a man's <0120> voice <06963> between

<0996> [the banks of] Ulai <0195>, which called <07121>, and

said <0559>, Gabriel <01403>, make this <01975> [man] to

understand <0995> the vision <04758>.

 17 So he came <0935> near <0681> where I stood <05977>: and

when he came <0935>, I was afraid <01204>, and fell <05307> upon

my face <06440>: but he said <0559> unto me, Understand <0995>,

O son <01121> of man <0120>: for at the time <06256> of the end

<07093> [shall be] the vision <04758>.

18 Now as he was speaking <01696> with me, I was in a deep

<07290> sleep <07290> on <05921> my face <06440> toward the

ground <0776>: but he touched <05060> me, and set <05975> me

upright <05977>.

19 And he said <0559>, Behold <02005>, I will make thee know

<03045> what shall be in the last <0319> end of the indignation

<02195>: for at the time appointed <04150> the end <07093>

[shall be].

20 The ram <0352> which <0834> thou sawest <07200> having

<01167> [two] horns <07161> [are] the kings <04428> of Media

<04074> and Persia <06539>.

21 And the rough <08163> goat <06842> [is] the king <04428> of

Grecia <03120>: and the great <01419> horn <07161> that [is]

between <0996> his eyes <05869> [is] the first <07223> king

<04428>.

22 Now that being broken <07665>, whereas four <0702> stood

<05975> up for it, four <0702> kingdoms <04438> shall stand

<05975> up out of the nation <01471>, but not in his power

<03581>.

23 And in the latter <0319> time of their kingdom <04438>, when

the transgressors <06586> are come to the full <08552>, a king

<04428> of fierce <05794> countenance <06440>, and understanding

<0995> dark <02420> sentences <02420>, shall stand <05975> up.

24 And his power <03581> shall be mighty <06105>, but not by

his own power <03581>: and he shall destroy <07843> wonderfully

<06381>, and shall prosper <06743>, and practise <06213>, and

shall destroy <07843> the mighty <06099> and the holy <06918>

people <05971>.

25 And through <05921> his policy <07922> also he shall cause

craft <04820> to prosper <06743> in his hand <03027>; and he

shall magnify <01431> [himself] in his heart <03824>, and by

peace <07962> shall destroy <07843> many <07227>: he shall also

stand <05975> up against <05921> the Prince <08269> of princes

<08269>; but he shall be broken <07665> without <0657> hand

<03027>.

26 And the vision <04758> of the evening <06153> and the

morning <01242> which <0834> was told <0560> [is] true <0571>:

wherefore shut <05640> thou up the vision <02377>; for it [shall

be] for many <07227> days <03117>.

 27 And I Daniel <01840> fainted <01961>, and was sick <02470>

[certain] days <03117>; afterward I rose <06965> up, and did

<06213> the king's <04428> business <04399>; and I was

astonished <08074> at <05921> the vision <04758>, but none

<0369> understood <0995> [it].

Daniel 9

 1. In the first <0259> year <08141> of Darius <01867> the son

<01121> of Ahasuerus <0325>, of the seed <02233> of the Medes

<04074>, which <0834> was made king <04427> over <05921> the

realm <04438> of the Chaldeans <03778>;

 2 In the first <0259> year <08141> of his reign <04427> I

Daniel <01840> understood <0995> by books <05612> the number

<04557> of the years <08141>, whereof <0834> the word <01697> of

the LORD <03068> came <01961> to Jeremiah <03414> the prophet

<05030>, that he would accomplish <04390> seventy <07657> years

<08141> in the desolations <02723> of Jerusalem <03389>.

3 And I set <05414> my face <06440> unto the Lord <0136> God

<0430>, to seek <01245> by prayer <08605> and supplications

<08469>, with fasting <06685>, and sackcloth <08242>, and ashes

<0665>:

 4. And I prayed <06419> unto the LORD <03068> my God <0430>,

and made my confession <03034>, and said <0559>, O Lord <0136>,

the great <01419> and dreadful <03372> God <0410>, keeping

<08104> the covenant <01285> and mercy <02617> to them that love

<0157> him, and to them that keep <08104> his commandments

<04687>;

5 We have sinned <02398>, and have committed <05753> iniquity

<05753>, and have done wickedly <07561>, and have rebelled

<04775>, even by departing <05493> from thy precepts <04687> and

from thy judgments <04941>:

6 Neither <03808> have we hearkened <08085> unto thy servants

<05650> the prophets <05030>, which <0834> spake <01696> in thy

name <08034> to our kings <04428>, our princes <08269>, and our

fathers <01>, and to all <03605> the people <05971> of the land

<0776>.

 7 O Lord <0136>, righteousness <06666> [belongeth] unto thee,

but unto us confusion <01322> of faces <06440>, as at this

<02088> day <03117>; to the men <0376> of Judah <03063>, and to

the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>, and unto all

<03605> Israel <03478>, [that are] near <07138>, and [that are]

far <07350> off, through all <03605> the countries <0776>

whither thou hast driven <05080> them, because of their trespass

<04604> that they have trespassed <04603> against thee.

8 O Lord <0136>, to us [belongeth] confusion <01322> of face

<06440>, to our kings <04428>, to our princes <08269>, and to

our fathers <01>, because <0834> we have sinned <02398> against

thee.

9 To the Lord <0136> our God <0430> [belong] mercies <07356>

and forgivenesses <05547>, though <03588> we have rebelled

<04775> against him;

10 Neither <03808> have we obeyed <08085> the voice <06963> of

the LORD <03068> our God <0430>, to walk <03212> in his laws

<08451>, which <0834> he set <05414> before <06440> us by his

servants <05650> the prophets <05030>.

 11 Yea, all <03605> Israel <03478> have transgressed <05674>

thy law <08451>, even by departing <05493>, that they might not

obey <08085> thy voice <06963>; therefore the curse <0423> is

poured <05413> upon us, and the oath <07621> that [is] written

<03789> in the law <08451> of Moses <04872> the servant <05650>

of God <0430>, because <03588> we have sinned <02398> against

him.

12 And he hath confirmed <06965> his words <01697>, which

<0834> he spake <01696> against <05921> us, and against <05921>

our judges <08199> that judged <08199> us, by bringing <0935>

upon us a great <01419> evil <07451>: for under <08478> the

whole <03605> heaven <08064> hath not been done as hath been

done <06213> upon Jerusalem <03389>.

13 As [it is] written <03789> in the law <08451> of Moses

<04872>, all <03605> this <02063> evil <07451> is come <0935>

upon us: yet made we not our prayer <02470> before the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>, that we might turn <07725> from our

iniquities <05771>, and understand <07919> thy truth <0571>.

14 Therefore hath the LORD <03068> watched <08245> upon the

evil <07451>, and brought <0935> it upon us: for the LORD

<03068> our God <0430> [is] righteous <06662> in all <03605> his

works <04639> which <0834> he doeth <06213>: for we obeyed

<08085> not his voice <06963>.

 15 And now <06258>, O Lord <0136> our God <0430>, that hast

brought <03318> thy people <05971> forth <03318> out of the land

<0776> of Egypt <04714> with a mighty <02389> hand <03027>, and

hast gotten <06213> thee renown <08034>, as at this day <03117>;

we have sinned <02398>, we have done wickedly <07561>.

16 O Lord <0136>, according to all <03605> thy righteousness

<06666>, I beseech <04994> thee, let thine anger <0639> and thy

fury <02534> be turned <07725> away from thy city <05892>

Jerusalem <03389>, thy holy <06944> mountain <02022>: because

<03588> for our sins <02399>, and for the iniquities <05771> of

our fathers <01>, Jerusalem <03389> and thy people <05971> [are

become] a reproach <02781> to all <03605> [that are] about

<05439> us.

 17 Now <06258> therefore, O our God <0430>, hear <08085> the

prayer <08605> of thy servant <05650>, and his supplications

<08469>, and cause thy face <06440> to shine <0215> upon thy

sanctuary <04720> that is desolate <08074>, for the Lord's

<0136> sake <04616>.

 18 O my God <0430>, incline <05186> thine ear <0241>, and hear

<08085>; open <06491> thine eyes <05869>, and behold <07200> our

desolations <08074>, and the city <05892> which <0834> is called

<07121> by thy name <08034>: for we do not present <05307> our

supplications <08469> before <06440> thee for our

righteousnesses <06666>, but for thy great <07227> mercies

<07356>.

 19 O Lord <0136>, hear <08085>; O Lord <0136>, forgive <05545>;

O Lord <0136>, hearken <07181> and do <06213>; defer <0309> not,

for thine own sake <04616>, O my God <0430>: for thy city

<05892> and thy people <05971> are called <07121> by thy name

<08034>.

 20. And whiles <05750> I [was] speaking <01696>, and praying

<06419>, and confessing <03034> my sin <02403> and the sin

<02403> of my people <05971> Israel <03478>, and presenting

<05307> my supplication <08467> before <06440> the LORD <03068>

my God <0430> for the holy <06944> mountain <02022> of my God

<0430>;

21 Yea, whiles I [was] speaking <01696> in prayer <08605>, even

the man <0376> Gabriel <01403>, whom <0834> I had seen <07200>

in the vision <02377> at the beginning <08462>, being caused to

fly <03286> swiftly <03288>, touched <05060> me about the time

<06256> of the evening <06153> oblation <04503>.

22 And he informed <0995> [me], and talked <01696> with me, and

said <0559>, O Daniel <01840>, I am now <06258> come <03318>

forth <03318> to give thee skill <07919> and understanding

<0998>.

23 At the beginning <08462> of thy supplications <08469> the

commandment <01697> came <03318> forth <03318>, and I am come

<0935> to shew <05046> [thee]; for thou [art] greatly beloved

<02530>: therefore understand <0995> the matter <01697>, and

consider <0995> the vision <02377>.

 24 Seventy <07657> weeks <07620> are determined <02852> upon

thy people <05971> and upon thy holy <06944> city <05892>, to

finish <03607> the transgression <06588>, and to make an end

<02856> of sins <02403>, and to make reconciliation <03722> for

iniquity <05771>, and to bring <0935> in everlasting <05769>

righteousness <06664>, and to seal <02856> up the vision <02377>

and prophecy <05030>, and to anoint <04886> the most <06944>

Holy <06944>.

25 Know <03045> therefore and understand <07919>, [that] from

the going <04161> forth <04161> of the commandment <01697> to

restore <07725> and to build <01129> Jerusalem <03389> unto the

Messiah <04899> the Prince <05057> [shall be] seven <07651>

weeks <07620>, and threescore <08346> and two <08147> weeks

<07620>: the street <07339> shall be built <01129> again <07725>,

and the wall <02742>, even in troublous <05916> times <06256>.

26 And after <0310> threescore <08346> and two <08147> weeks

<07620> shall Messiah <04899> be cut <03772> off, but not for

himself: and the people <05971> of the prince <05057> that shall

come <0935> shall destroy <07843> the city <05892> and the

sanctuary <06944>; and the end <07093> thereof [shall be] with a

flood <07858>, and unto the end <07093> of the war <04421>

desolations <08074> are determined <02782>.

27 And he shall confirm <01396> the covenant <01285> with many

<07227> for one <0259> week <07620>: and in the midst <02677> of

the week <07620> he shall cause the sacrifice <02077> and the

oblation <04503> to cease <07673>, and for the overspreading

<03671> of abominations <08251> he shall make [it] desolate

<08074>, even until <05704> the consummation <03617>, and that

determined <02782> shall be poured <05413> upon the desolate

<08076>.

Daniel 10

 1. In the third <07969> year <08141> of Cyrus <03566> king

<04428> of Persia <06539> a thing <01697> was revealed <01540>

unto Daniel <01840>, whose <0834> name <08034> was called

<07121> Belteshazzar <01095>; and the thing <01697> [was] true

<0571>, but the time appointed <06635> [was] long <01419>: and

he understood <0995> the thing <01697>, and had understanding

<0998> of the vision <04758>.

 2 In those <01992> days <03117> I Daniel <01840> was mourning

<056> three <07969> full <03117> weeks <07620>.

 3 I ate <0398> no <03808> pleasant <02530> bread <03899>,

neither <03808> came <0935> flesh <01320> nor <03808> wine

<03196> in my mouth <06310>, neither <03808> did I anoint

<05480> myself at all, till <05704> three <07969> whole <03117>

weeks <07620> were fulfilled <04390>.

4 And in the four <0702> and twentieth <06242> day <03117> of

the first <07223> month <02320>, as I was by the side <03027> of

the great <01419> river <05104>, which <01931> [is] Hiddekel

<02313>;

5 Then I lifted <05375> up mine eyes <05869>, and looked

<07200>, and behold <02009> a certain <0259> man <0376> clothed

<03847> in linen <0906>, whose loins <04975> [were] girded

<02296> with fine gold <03800> of Uphaz <0210>:

6 His body <01472> also [was] like the beryl <08658>, and his

face <06440> as the appearance <04758> of lightning <01300>, and

his eyes <05869> as lamps <03940> of fire <0784>, and his arms

<02220> and his feet <04772> like in colour <05869> to polished

<07044> brass <05178>, and the voice <06963> of his words

<01697> like the voice <06963> of a multitude <01995>.

 7 And I Daniel <01840> alone <0905> saw <07200> the vision

<04759>: for the men <0582> that were with me saw <07200> not

the vision <04759>; but a great <01419> quaking <02731> fell

<05307> upon them, so that they fled <01272> to hide <02244>

themselves.

 8 Therefore I was left <07604> alone <0905>, and saw <07200>

this great <01419> vision <04759>, and there remained <07604> no

<03808> strength <03581> in me: for my comeliness <01935> was

turned <02015> in me into corruption <04889>, and I retained

<06113> no <03808> strength <03581>.

 9 Yet heard <08085> I the voice <06963> of his words <01697>:

and when I heard <08085> the voice <06963> of his words <01697>,

then was I in a deep <07290> sleep <07290> on my face <06440>,

and my face <06440> toward the ground <0776>.

 10. And, behold <02009>, an hand <03027> touched <05060> me,

which set <05128> me upon my knees <01290> and [upon] the palms

<03709> of my hands <03027>.

 11 And he said <0559> unto me, O Daniel <01840>, a man <0376>

greatly beloved <02530>, understand <0995> the words <01697>

that I speak <01696> unto thee, and stand <05975> upright

<05977>: for unto thee am I now <06258> sent <07971>. And when

he had spoken <01696> this <02088> word <01697> unto me, I stood

<05975> trembling <07460>.

12 Then said <0559> he unto me, Fear <03372> not, Daniel

<01840>: for from the first <07223> day <03117> that thou didst

set <05414> thine heart <03820> to understand <0995>, and to

chasten <06031> thyself before <06440> thy God <0430>, thy words

<01697> were heard <08085>, and I am come <0935> for thy words

<01697>.

13 But the prince <08269> of the kingdom <04438> of Persia

<06539> withstood <05975> me one <0259> and twenty <06242> days

<03117>: but, lo <02009>, Michael <04317>, one <0259> of the

chief <07223> princes <08269>, came <0935> to help <05826> me;

and I remained <03498> there <08033> with the kings <04428> of

Persia <06539>.

14 Now I am come <0935> to make thee understand <0995> what

shall befall <07136> thy people <05971> in the latter <0319>

days <03117>: for yet <05750> the vision <02377> [is] for [many]

days <03117>.

15 And when he had spoken <01696> such <0428> words <01697>

unto me, I set <05414> my face <06440> toward the ground <0776>,

and I became <0481> dumb <0481>.

16 And, behold <02009>, [one] like the similitude <01823> of

the sons <01121> of men <0120> touched <05060> my lips <08193>:

then I opened <06605> my mouth <06310>, and spake <01696>, and

said <0559> unto him that stood <05975> before <06440> me, O my

lord <0113>, by the vision <04758> my sorrows <06735> are turned

<02015> upon me, and I have retained <06113> no <03808> strength

<03581>.

17 For how <01963> can <03201> the servant <05650> of this

<02088> my lord <0113> talk <01696> with this <02088> my lord

<0113>? for as for me, straightway <06258> there remained

<05975> no <03808> strength <03581> in me, neither <03808> is

there breath <05397> left <07604> in me.

18 Then there came again <03284> and touched <05060> me [one]

like the appearance <04758> of a man <0120>, and he strengthened

<02388> me,

 19 And said <0559>, O man <0376> greatly beloved <02530>, fear

<03372> not: peace <07965> [be] unto thee, be strong <02388>,

yea, be strong <02388>. And when he had spoken <01696> unto me,

I was strengthened <02388>, and said <0559>, Let my lord <0113>

speak <01696>; for thou hast strengthened <02388> me.

20 Then said <0559> he, Knowest <03045> thou wherefore <04100>

I come <0935> unto thee? and now <06258> will I return <07725>

to fight <03898> with the prince <08269> of Persia <06539>: and

when I am gone <03318> forth <03318>, lo <02009>, the prince

<08269> of Grecia <03120> shall come <0935>.

21 But I will shew <05046> thee that which is noted <07559> in

the scripture <03791> of truth <0571>: and [there is] none

<0369> that holdeth <02388> with me in these <0428> things, but

Michael <04317> your prince <08269>.

Daniel 11

 1. Also I in the first <0259> year <08141> of Darius <01867>

the Mede <04075>, [even] I, stood <05975> to confirm <02388> and

to strengthen <04581> him.

 2 And now <06258> will I shew <05046> thee the truth <0571>.

Behold <02009>, there shall stand <05975> up yet <05750> three

<07969> kings <04428> in Persia <06539>; and the fourth <07243>

shall be far <01419> richer <06238> than [they] all <03605>: and

by his strength <02394> through his riches <06239> he shall stir

<05782> up all <03605> against the realm <04438> of Grecia

<03120>.

 3 And a mighty <01368> king <04428> shall stand <05975> up,

that shall rule <04910> with great <07227> dominion <04474>, and

do <06213> according to his will <07522>.

4 And when he shall stand <05975> up, his kingdom <04438> shall

be broken <07665>, and shall be divided <02673> toward the four

<0702> winds <07307> of heaven <08064>; and not to his posterity

<0319>, nor <03808> according to his dominion <04915> which

<0834> he ruled <04910>: for his kingdom <04438> shall be

plucked <05428> up, even for others <0312> beside <0905> those

<0428>.

 5. And the king <04428> of the south <05045> shall be strong

<02388>, and [one] of his princes <08269>; and he shall be

strong <02388> above <05921> him, and have dominion <04910>; his

dominion <04474> [shall be] a great <07227> dominion <04474>.

6 And in the end <07093> of years <08141> they shall join

<02266> themselves together; for the king's <04428> daughter

<01323> of the south <05045> shall come <0935> to the king

<04428> of the north <06828> to make <06213> an agreement

<04339>: but she shall not retain <06113> the power <03581> of

the arm <02220>; neither <03808> shall he stand <05975>, nor his

arm <02220>: but she shall be given <05414> up, and they that

brought <0935> her, and he that begat <03205> her, and he that

strengthened <02388> her in [these] times <06256>.

7 But out of a branch <05342> of her roots <08328> shall [one]

stand <05975> up in his estate <03653>, which shall come <0935>

with an army <02428>, and shall enter <0935> into the fortress

<04581> of the king <04428> of the north <06828>, and shall deal

<06213> against them, and shall prevail <02388>:

8 And shall also <01571> carry <0935> captives <07628> into

Egypt <04714> their gods <0430>, with their princes <05257>,

[and] with their precious <02532> vessels <03627> of silver

<03701> and of gold <02091>; and he shall continue <05975>

[more] years <08141> than the king <04428> of the north <06828>.

9 So the king <04428> of the south <05045> shall come <0935>

into [his] kingdom <04438>, and shall return <07725> into <0413>

his own land <0127>.

10 But his sons <01121> shall be stirred <01624> up, and shall

assemble <0622> a multitude <01995> of great <07227> forces

<02428>: and [one] shall certainly come <0935>, and overflow

<07857>, and pass <05674> through: then shall he return <07725>,

and be stirred <01624> up, [even] to his fortress <04581>.

11 And the king <04428> of the south <05045> shall be moved

with choler <04843>, and shall come <03318> forth <03318> and

fight <03898> with him, [even] with the king <04428> of the

north <06828>: and he shall set <05975> forth <05975> a great

<07227> multitude <01995>; but the multitude <01995> shall be

given <05414> into his hand <03027>.

12 [And] when he hath taken <05375> away the multitude <01995>,

his heart <03824> shall be lifted <07311> up; and he shall cast

<05307> down <05307> [many] ten <07239> thousands <07239>: but

he shall not be strengthened <05810> [by it].

13 For the king <04428> of the north <06828> shall return

<07725>, and shall set <05975> forth a multitude <01995> greater

<07227> than <04480> the former <07223>, and shall certainly

come <0935> after <07093> certain <06256> years <08141> with a

great <01419> army <02428> and with much riches <07399>.

14 And in those <01992> times <06256> there shall many <07227>

stand <05975> up against <05921> the king <04428> of the south

<05045>: also the robbers <06530> of thy people <05971> shall

exalt <05375> themselves to establish <05975> the vision <02377>;

 but they shall fall <03782>.

15 So the king <04428> of the north <06828> shall come <0935>,

and cast <08210> up a mount <05550>, and take <03920> the most

fenced <04013> cities <05892>: and the arms <02220> of the south

<05045> shall not withstand <05975>, neither <0369> his chosen

<04005> people <05971>, neither <0369> [shall there be any]

strength <03581> to withstand <05975>.

16 But he that cometh <0935> against <0413> him shall do

<06213> according to his own <07522> will <07522>, and none

<0369> shall stand <05975> before <06440> him: and he shall

stand <05975> in the glorious <06643> land <0776>, which by his

hand <03027> shall be consumed <03615>.

17 He shall also set <07760> his face <06440> to enter <0935>

with the strength <08633> of his whole <03605> kingdom <04438>,

and upright <03477> ones with him; thus shall he do <06213>: and

he shall give <05414> him the daughter <01323> of women <0802>,

corrupting <07843> her: but she shall not stand <05975> [on his

side], neither <03808> be for him.

18 After this shall he turn <07725> his face <06440> unto the

isles <0339>, and shall take <03920> many <07227>: but a prince

<07101> for his own behalf shall cause the reproach <02781>

offered by him to cease <07673>; without <01115> his own

reproach <02781> he shall cause [it] to turn <07725> upon him.

19 Then he shall turn <07725> his face <06440> toward the fort

<04581> of his own land <0776>: but he shall stumble <03782> and

fall <05307>, and not be found <04672>.

20 Then shall stand <05975> up in his estate <03653> a raiser

<05674> of taxes <05065> [in] the glory <01925> of the kingdom

<04438>: but within few <0259> days <03117> he shall be

destroyed <07665>, neither <03808> in anger <0639>, nor <03808>

in battle <04421>.

 21. And in his estate <03653> shall stand <05975> up a vile

<0959> person, to whom <05921> they shall not give <05414> the

honour <01935> of the kingdom <04438>: but he shall come <0935>

in peaceably <07962>, and obtain <02388> the kingdom <04438> by

flatteries <02519>.

22 And with the arms <02220> of a flood <07858> shall they be

overflown <07857> from before <06440> him, and shall be broken

<07665>; yea <01571>, also <01571> the prince <05057> of the

covenant <01285>.

23 And after the league <02266> [made] with him he shall work

<06213> deceitfully <04820>: for he shall come <05927> up, and

shall become <06105> strong <06105> with a small <04592> people

<01471>.

24 He shall enter <0935> peaceably <07962> even upon the

fattest <04924> places of the province <04082>; and he shall do

<06213> [that] which <0834> his fathers <01> have not done

<06213>, nor his fathers <01>' fathers <01>; he shall scatter

<0967> among them the prey <0961>, and spoil <07998>, and riches

<07399>: [yea], and he shall forecast <02803> his devices

<04284> against <05921> the strong <04013> holds <04013>, even

for a time <06256>.

25 And he shall stir <05782> up his power <03581> and his

courage <03824> against <05921> the king <04428> of the south

<05045> with a great <01419> army <02428>; and the king <04428>

of the south <05045> shall be stirred <01624> up to battle

<04421> with a very great <01419> and mighty <06099> army

<02428>; but he shall not stand <05975>: for they shall forecast

<02803> devices <04284> against <05921> him.

26 Yea, they that feed <0398> of the portion <06598> of his

meat <06598> shall destroy <07665> him, and his army <02428>

shall overflow <07857>: and many <07227> shall fall <05307> down

slain <02491>.

27 And both <08147> these kings <04428>' hearts <03824> [shall

be] to do mischief <04827>, and they shall speak <01696> lies

<03576> at <05921> one <0259> table <07979>; but it shall not

prosper <06743>: for yet <05750> the end <07093> [shall be] at

the time appointed <04150>.

28 Then shall he return <07725> into his land <0776> with great

<01419> riches <07399>; and his heart <03824> [shall be] against

<05921> the holy <06944> covenant <01285>; and he shall do

<06213> [exploits], and return <07725> to his own land <0776>.

29 At the time appointed <04150> he shall return <07725>, and

come <0935> toward the south <05045>; but it shall not be as the

former <07223>, or as the latter <0314>.

30 For the ships <06716> of Chittim <03794> shall come <0935>

against him: therefore he shall be grieved <03512>, and return

<07725>, and have indignation <02194> against <05921> the holy

<06944> covenant <01285>: so shall he do <06213>; he shall even

return <07725>, and have intelligence <0995> with them that

forsake <05800> the holy <06944> covenant <01285>.

31 And arms <02220> shall stand <05975> on his part <02506>,

and they shall pollute <02490> the sanctuary <04720> of strength

<04581>, and shall take <05493> away <05493> the daily <08548>

[sacrifice], and they shall place <05414> the abomination

<08251> that maketh desolate <08074>.

32 And such as do wickedly <07561> against the covenant <01285>

shall he corrupt <02610> by flatteries <02514>: but the people

<05971> that do know <03045> their God <0430> shall be strong

<02388>, and do <06213> [exploits].

33 And they that understand <07919> among the people <05971>

shall instruct <0995> many <07227>: yet they shall fall <03782>

by the sword <02719>, and by flame <03852>, by captivity <07628>,

and by spoil <0961>, [many] days <03117>.

34 Now when they shall fall <03782>, they shall be holpen

<05826> with a little <04592> help <05828>: but many <07227>

shall cleave <03867> to them with flatteries <02519>.

35 And [some] of them of understanding <07919> shall fall

<03782>, to try <06884> them, and to purge <01305>, and to make

[them] white <03835>, [even] to the time <06256> of the end

<07093>: because [it is] yet <05750> for a time appointed

<04150>.

36 And the king <04428> shall do <06213> according to his will

<07522>; and he shall exalt <07311> himself, and magnify <01431>

himself above <05921> every <03605> god <0410>, and shall speak

<01696> marvellous <06381> things against <05921> the God <0410>

of gods <0410>, and shall prosper <06743> till <05704> the

indignation <02195> be accomplished <03615>: for that that is

determined <02782> shall be done <06213>.

37 Neither <03808> shall he regard <0995> the God <0430> of his

fathers <01>, nor the desire <02532> of women <0802>, nor

<03808> regard <0995> any <03605> god <0433>: for he shall

magnify <01431> himself above <05921> all <03605>.

38 But in his estate <03653> shall he honour <03513> the God

<0433> of forces <04581>: and a god <0433> whom <0834> his

fathers <01> knew <03045> not shall he honour <03513> with gold

<02091>, and silver <03701>, and with precious <03368> stones

<068>, and pleasant <02530> things.

39 Thus shall he do <06213> in the most <04581> strong <04581>

holds <04013> with a strange <05236> god <0433>, whom <0834> he

shall acknowledge <05234> [and] increase <07235> with glory

<03519>: and he shall cause them to rule <04910> over many

<07227>, and shall divide <02505> the land <0127> for gain

<04242>.

40 And at the time <06256> of the end <07093> shall the king

<04428> of the south <05045> push <05055> at him: and the king

<04428> of the north <06828> shall come <08175> against <05921>

him like a whirlwind <08175>, with chariots <07393>, and with

horsemen <06571>, and with many <07227> ships <0591>; and he

shall enter <0935> into the countries <0776>, and shall overflow

<07857> and pass <05674> over <05674>.

41 He shall enter <0935> also into the glorious <06643> land

<0776>, and many <07227> [countries] shall be overthrown <03782>:

but these <0428> shall escape <04422> out of his hand <03027>,

[even] Edom <0123>, and Moab <04124>, and the chief <07225> of

the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>.

42 He shall stretch <07971> forth his hand <03027> also upon

the countries <0776>: and the land <0776> of Egypt <04714> shall

not escape <06413>.

43 But he shall have power <04910> over the treasures <04362>

of gold <02091> and of silver <03701>, and over all <03605> the

precious <02530> things of Egypt <04714>: and the Libyans

<03864> and the Ethiopians <03569> [shall be] at his steps

<04703>.

44 But tidings <08052> out of the east <04217> and out of the

north <06828> shall trouble <0926> him: therefore he shall go

<03318> forth <03318> with great <01419> fury <02534> to destroy

<08045>, and utterly to make away <02763> many <07227>.

45 And he shall plant <05193> the tabernacles <0168> of his

palace <0643> between <0996> the seas <03220> in the glorious

<06643> holy <06944> mountain <02022>; yet he shall come <0935>

to his end <07093>, and none <0369> shall help <05826> him.

Daniel 12

 1. And at that time <06256> shall Michael <04317> stand <05975>

up, the great <01419> prince <08269> which standeth <05975> for

the children <01121> of thy people <05971>: and there shall be a

time <06256> of trouble <06869>, such <0834> as never <03808>

was since there was a nation <01471> [even] to that same <01931>

time <06256>: and at that time <06256> thy people <05971> shall

be delivered <04422>, every <03605> one that shall be found

<04672> written <03789> in the book <05612>.

2 And many <07227> of them that sleep <03463> in the dust

<06083> of the earth <0127> shall awake <06974>, some <0428> to

everlasting <05769> life <02416>, and some <0428> to shame

<02781> [and] everlasting <05769> contempt <01860>.

3 And they that be wise <07919> shall shine <02094> as the

brightness <02096> of the firmament <07549>; and they that turn

many <07227> to righteousness <06663> as the stars <03556> for

ever <05769> and ever <05703>.

 4 But thou, O Daniel <01840>, shut <05640> up the words <01697>,

and seal <02856> the book <05612>, [even] to the time <06256>

of the end <07093>: many <07227> shall run <07751> to and fro

<07751>, and knowledge <01847> shall be increased <07235>.

 5. Then I Daniel <01840> looked <07200>, and, behold <02009>,

there stood <05975> other <0312> two <08147>, the one <0259> on

this <02008> side of the bank <08193> of the river <02975>, and

the other <0259> on that side of the bank <08193> of the river

<02975>.

6 And [one] said <0559> to the man <0376> clothed <03847> in

linen <0906>, which <0834> [was] upon the waters <04325> of the

river <02975>, How <05704> long <05704> [shall it be to] the end

<07093> of these wonders <06382>?

 7 And I heard <08085> the man <0376> clothed <03847> in linen

<0906>, which <0834> [was] upon the waters <04325> of the river

<02975>, when he held <07311> up his right <03225> hand <03225>

and his left <08040> hand <08040> unto heaven <08064>, and sware

<07650> by him that liveth <02416> for ever <05769> that [it

shall be] for a time <04150>, times <04150>, and an half <02677>;

and when he shall have accomplished <03615> to scatter <05310>

the power <03027> of the holy <06944> people <05971>, all

<03605> these <0428> [things] shall be finished <03615>.

 8 And I heard <08085>, but I understood <0995> not: then said

<0559> I, O my Lord <0113>, what <04100> [shall be] the end

<0319> of these <0428> [things]?

9 And he said <0559>, Go <03212> thy way, Daniel <01840>: for

the words <01697> [are] closed <05640> up and sealed <02856>

till <05704> the time <06256> of the end <07093>.

10 Many <07227> shall be purified <01305>, and made white

<03835>, and tried <06884>; but the wicked <07563> shall do

wickedly <07561>: and none <03808> of the wicked <07563> shall

understand <0995>; but the wise <07919> shall understand <0995>.

11 And from the time <06256> [that] the daily <08548>

[sacrifice] shall be taken <05493> away <05493>, and the

abomination <08251> that maketh desolate <08074> set <05414> up,

[there shall be] a thousand <0505> two hundred <03967> and

ninety <08673> days <03117>.

12 Blessed <0835> [is] he that waiteth <02442>, and cometh

<05060> to the thousand <0505> three <07969> hundred <03967> and

five <02568> and thirty <07970> days <03117>.

13 But go <03212> thou thy way <01870> till the end <07093>

[be]: for thou shalt rest <05117>, and stand <05975> in thy lot

<01486> at the end <07093> of the days <03117>.
