Daniel 5

5:1 Belshazzar <G 1113> the king <G 4430> made <G 5648> a great

<G 7227> feast <G 3900> to a thousand <G 0506> of his lords <G

7261>, and drank <G 8355> wine <G 2562> before <G 6903> the

thousand <G 0506>.

5:2 Belshazzar <G 1113>, whiles he tasted <G 2942> the wine <G

2562>, commanded <G 0560> to bring <G 0858> the golden <G 1722>

and silver <G 3702> vessels <G 3984> which <G 1768> his father

<G 2> Nebuchadnezzar <G 5020> had taken <G 5312> out of the

temple <G 1965> which <G 1768> [was] in Jerusalem <G 3390>; that

the king <G 4430>, and his princes <G 7261>, his wives <G 7695>,

and his concubines <G 3904>, might drink <G 8355> therein.

5:3 Then <G 0116> they brought <G 0858> the golden <G 1722>

vessels <G 3984> that were taken <G 5312> out of the temple <G

1965> of the house <G 1005> of God <G 0426> which <G 1768> [was]

at Jerusalem <G 3390>; and the king <G 4430>, and his princes <G

7261>, his wives <G 7695>, and his concubines <G 3904>, drank <G

8355> in them.

5:4 They drank <G 8355> wine <G 2562>, and praised <G 7624> the

gods <G 0426> of gold <G 1722>, and of silver <G 3702>, of brass

<G 5174>, of iron <G 6523>, of wood <G 0636>, and of stone <G

69>.

5:5 In the same hour <G 8160> came <G 5312> forth <G 5312>

fingers <G 0677> of a man's <G 0606> hand <G 3028>, and wrote <G

3790> over <G 6903> against <G 6903> the candlestick <G 5043>

upon the plaister <G 1528> of the wall <G 3797> of the king's <G

4430> palace <G 1965>: and the king <G 4430> saw <G 2370> the

part <G 6447> of the hand <G 3028> that wrote <G 3790>.

5:6 Then <G 0116> the king's <G 4430> countenance <G 2122> was

changed <G 8133>, and his thoughts <G 7476> troubled <G 0927>

him, so that the joints <G 7001> of his loins <G 2788> were

loosed <G 8271>, and his knees <G 0755> smote <G 5368> one <G

1668> against another <G 1668>.

5:7 The king <G 4430> cried <G 7123> aloud <G 2429> to bring <G

5924> in the astrologers <G 0826>, the Chaldeans <G 3779>, and

the soothsayers <G 1505>. [And] the king <G 4430> spake <G 6032>,

and said <G 0560> to the wise <G 2445> [men] of Babylon <G

0895>, Whosoever <G 3605> shall read <G 7123> this <G 1836>

writing <G 3792>, and shew <G 2324> me the interpretation <G

6591> thereof, shall be clothed <G 3848> with scarlet <G 0711>,

and [have] a chain <G 2002> of gold <G 1722> about <G 5922> his

neck <G 6676>, and shall be the third <G 8523> ruler <G 7981> in

the kingdom <G 4437>.

5:8 Then <G 0116> came <G 5954> in all <G 3606> the king's <G

4430> wise <G 2445> [men]: but they could <G 3546> not read <G

7123> the writing <G 3792>, nor make known <G 3046> to the king

<G 4430> the interpretation <G 6591> thereof.

5:9 Then <G 0116> was king <G 4430> Belshazzar <G 1113> greatly

<G 7690> troubled <G 0927>, and his countenance <G 2122> was

changed <G 8133> in him, and his lords <G 7261> were astonied <G

2672>.

5:10 [Now] the queen <G 4433>, by reason <G 6903> of the words

<G 4406> of the king <G 4430> and his lords <G 7261>, came <G

5954> into the banquet <G 4961> house <G 1005>: [and] the queen

<G 4433> spake <G 6032> and said <G 0560>, O king <G 4430>, live

<G 2414> for ever <G 5957>: let not thy thoughts <G 7476>

trouble <G 0927> thee, nor <G 0408> let thy countenance <G 2122>

be changed <G 8133>:

5:11 There is a man <G 1400> in thy kingdom <G 4437>, in whom <G

1768> [is] the spirit <G 7308> of the holy <G 6922> gods <G

0426>; and in the days <G 3118> of thy father <G 2> light <G

5094> and understanding <G 7924> and wisdom <G 2452>, like the

wisdom <G 2452> of the gods <G 0426>, was found <G 7912> in him;

whom the king <G 4430> Nebuchadnezzar <G 5020> thy father <G 2>,

the king <G 4430>, [I say], thy father <G 2>, made master <G

0729> of the magicians <G 2749>, astrologers <G 0826>, Chaldeans

<G 3779>, [and] soothsayers <G 1505>;

5:12 Forasmuch as an excellent <G 3493> spirit <G 7308>, and

knowledge <G 0998>, and understanding <G 7924>, interpreting <G

6591> of dreams <G 2493>, and shewing <G 0263> of hard <G 0280>

sentences <G 0280>, and dissolving <G 8271> of doubts <G 7001>,

were found <G 7912> in the same Daniel <G 1841>, whom <G 1768>

the king <G 4430> named <G 8036> Belteshazzar <G 1096>: now <G

3705> let Daniel <G 1841> be called <G 7123>, and he will shew

<G 5046> the interpretation <G 6591>.

5:13 Then <G 0116> was Daniel <G 1841> brought <G 5954> in

before <G 6925> the king <G 4430>. [And] the king <G 4430> spake

<G 6032> and said <G 0560> unto Daniel <G 1841>, [Art] thou that

Daniel <G 1841>, which <G 1768> [art] of the children <G 1123>

of the captivity <G 1547> of Judah <G 3061>, whom <G 1768> the

king <G 4430> my father <G 2> brought <G 0858> out of Jewry <G

3061>?

5:14 I have even heard <G 8086> of thee, that the spirit <G

7308> of the gods <G 0426> [is] in thee, and [that] light <G

5094> and understanding <G 7924> and excellent <G 3493> wisdom

<G 2452> is found <G 7912> in thee.

5:15 And now <G 3705> the wise <G 2445> [men], the astrologers

<G 0826>, have been brought <G 5954> in before <G 6925> me, that

they should read <G 7123> this <G 1836> writing <G 3792>, and

make known <G 3046> unto me the interpretation <G 6591> thereof:

but they could <G 5346> not shew <G 2324> the interpretation <G

6591> of the thing <G 4406>:

5:16 And I have heard <G 8086> of thee, that thou canst <G 3202>

make interpretations <G 6591>, and dissolve <G 8271> doubts <G

7001>: now <G 3705> if <G 2006> thou canst <G 3202> read <G

7123> the writing <G 3792>, and make known <G 3046> to me the

interpretation <G 6591> thereof, thou shalt be clothed <G 3848>

with scarlet <G 0711>, and [have] a chain <G 2002> of gold <G

1722> about <G 5922> thy neck <G 6676>, and shalt be the third

<G 8531> ruler <G 7981> in the kingdom <G 4437>.

5:17 Then <G 0116> Daniel <G 1841> answered <G 6032> and said <G

0560> before <G 6925> the king <G 4430>, Let thy gifts <G 4978>

be to thyself, and give <G 3052> thy rewards <G 5023> to another

<G 0321>; yet <G 1297> I will read <G 7123> the writing <G 3792>

unto the king <G 4430>, and make known <G 3046> to him the

interpretation <G 6591>.

5:18 O thou king <G 4430>, the most <G 5943> high <G 5943> God

<G 0426> gave <G 3052> Nebuchadnezzar <G 5020> thy father <G 2>

a kingdom <G 4437>, and majesty <G 7238>, and glory <G 3367>,

and honour <G 1923>:

5:19 And for the majesty <G 7238> that he gave <G 3052> him, all

<G 3606> people <G 5972>, nations <G 0524>, and languages <G

3961>, trembled <G 2112> and feared <G 1763> before him: whom <G

1768> he would <G 6634> he slew <G 6992>; and whom <G 1768> he

would <G 6634> he kept alive <G 2418>; and whom <G 1768> he

would <G 6634> he set <G 7313> up; and whom he would <G 6634> he

put <G 8214> down <G 8214>.

5:20 But when <G 1768> his heart <G 3825> was lifted <G 7313> up,

 and his mind <G 7307> hardened <G 8631> in pride <G 2103>, he

was deposed <G 5182> from his kingly <G 4437> throne <G 3764>,

and they took <G 5709> his glory <G 3367> from him:

5:21 And he was driven <G 2957> from the sons <G 1123> of men <G

0606>; and his heart <G 3825> was made <G 7737> like <G 5974>

the beasts <G 2423>, and his dwelling <G 4070> [was] with the

wild <G 6167> asses <G 6167>: they fed <G 2939> him with grass

<G 6211> like oxen <G 8450>, and his body <G 1655> was wet <G

6647> with the dew <G 2920> of heaven <G 8065>; till <G 5704> he

knew <G 3046> that the most <G 5943> high <G 5943> God <G 0426>

ruled <G 7990> in the kingdom <G 4437> of men <G 0606>, and

[that] he appointeth <G 6966> over <G 5922> it whomsoever he

will <G 6634>.

5:22 And thou his son <G 1247>, O Belshazzar <G 1113>, hast not

humbled <G 8214> thine heart <G 3825>, though thou knewest <G

3046> all <G 3606> this <G 1836>;

5:23 But hast lifted <G 7313> up thyself against <G 5922> the

Lord <G 4756> of heaven <G 8065>; and they have brought <G 0858>

the vessels <G 3984> of his house <G 1005> before <G 6925> thee,

and thou, and thy lords <G 7261>, thy wives <G 7695>, and thy

concubines <G 3904>, have drunk <G 8355> wine <G 2562> in them;

and thou hast praised <G 7624> the gods <G 0426> of silver <G

3702>, and gold <G 1722>, of brass <G 5174>, iron <G 6523>, wood

<G 0636>, and stone <G 69>, which <G 1768> see <G 2370> not, nor

<G 3809> hear <G 8086>, nor <G 3809> know <G 3046>: and the God

<G 0426> in whose <G 1768> hand <G 3028> thy breath <G 5396>

[is], and whose [are] all <G 3606> thy ways <G 0735>, hast thou

not glorified <G 1922>:

5:24 Then <G 0116> was the part <G 6447> of the hand <G 3028>

sent <G 7972> from him; and this <G 1836> writing <G 3792> was

written <G 7560>.

5:25 And this <G 1836> [is] the writing <G 3792> that was

written <G 7560>, MENE <G 4484>, MENE <G 4484>, TEKEL <G 8625>,

UPHARSIN <G 6537>.

5:26 This <G 1836> [is] the interpretation <G 6591> of the thing

<G 4406>: MENE <G 4484>; God <G 0426> hath numbered <G 4483> thy

kingdom <G 4437>, and finished <G 8000> it.

5:27 TEKEL <G 8625>; Thou art weighed <G 8625> in the balances

<G 3976>, and art found <G 7912> wanting <G 2627>.

5:28 PERES <G 6537>; Thy kingdom <G 4437> is divided <G 6537>,

and given <G 3052> to the Medes <G 4076> and Persians <G 6540>.

5:29 Then <G 0116> commanded <G 0560> Belshazzar <G 1113>, and

they clothed <G 3848> Daniel <G 1841> with scarlet <G 0711>, and

[put] a chain <G 2002> of gold <G 1722> about <G 5922> his neck

<G 6676>, and made a proclamation <G 3745> concerning <G 5922>

him, that he should be the third <G 8531> ruler <G 7990> in the

kingdom <G 4437>.

5:30 In that night <G 3916> was Belshazzar <G 1113> the king <G

4430> of the Chaldeans <G 3779> slain <G 6992>.

5:31 And Darius <G 1868> the Median <G 4077> took <G 6902> the

kingdom <G 4437>, [being] about threescore <G 8361> and two <G

8648> years <G 8140> old <G 1247>.
