Job 1

 1. There was a man <0376> in the land <0776> of Uz <05780>,

whose name <08034> [was] Job <0347>; and that man <0376> was

perfect <08535> and upright <03477>, and one that feared <03373>

God <0430>, and eschewed <05493> evil <07451>.

2 And there were born <03205> unto him seven <07651> sons

<01121> and three <07969> daughters <01121>.

3 His substance <04735> also was seven <07651> thousand <0505>

sheep <06629>, and three <07969> thousand <0505> camels <01581>,

and five <02568> hundred <03967> yoke <06776> of oxen <01241>,

and five <02568> hundred <03967> she asses <0860>, and a very

<03966> great <07227> household <05657>; so that this <01931>

man <0376> was the greatest <01419> of all <03605> the men

<01121> of the east <06924>.

 4. And his sons <01121> went <01980> and feasted <04960> [in

their] houses <01004>, every <0376> one <0376> his day <03117>;

and sent <07971> and called <07121> for their three <07969>

sisters <0269> to eat <0398> and to drink <08354> with them.

5 And it was so, when <03588> the days <03117> of [their]

feasting <04960> were gone <05362> about <05362>, that Job

<0347> sent <07971> and sanctified <06942> them, and rose

<07925> up early <07925> in the morning <01242>, and offered

<05927> burnt <05930> offerings [according] to the number

<04557> of them all <03605>: for Job <0347> said <0559>, It may

<0194> be that my sons <01121> have sinned <02398>, and cursed

<01288> God <0430> in their hearts <03824>. Thus <03602> did

<06213> Job <0347> continually.

 6. Now there was a day <03117> when the sons <01121> of God

<0430> came <0935> to present <03320> themselves before <05921>

the LORD <03068>, and Satan <07854> came <0935> also <01571>

among <08432> them.

7 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Satan <07854>, Whence

<0370> comest <0935> thou? Then Satan <07854> answered <06030>

the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>, From going <07751> to and fro

<07751> in the earth <0776>, and from walking <01980> up and

down in it.

8 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Satan <07854>, Hast

thou considered my servant <05650> Job <0347>, that [there is]

none <0369> like <03644> him in the earth <0776>, a perfect

<08535> and an upright <03477> man <0376>, one that feareth

<03373> God <0430>, and escheweth <05493> evil <07451>?

9 Then Satan <07854> answered <06030> the LORD <03068>, and

said <0559>, Doth Job <0347> fear <03372> God <0430> for nought

<02600>?

10 Hast not thou made an hedge <07753> about <01157> him, and

about <01157> his house <01004>, and about <01157> all <03605>

that he hath on every <05437> side <05439>? thou hast blessed

<01288> the work <04639> of his hands <03027>, and his substance

<04735> is increased <06555> in the land <0776>.

 11 But put <07971> forth <07971> thine hand <03027> now <04994>,

and touch <05060> all <03605> that he hath, and he will curse

<01288> thee to thy face <06440>.

12 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Satan <07854>, Behold

<02009>, all <03605> that he hath [is] in thy power <03027>;

only <03535> upon himself put <07971> not forth <07971> thine

hand <03027>. So Satan <07854> went <03318> forth <03318> from

the presence <06440> of the LORD <03068>.

 13. And there was a day <03117> when his sons <01121> and his

daughters <01121> [were] eating <0398> and drinking <08354> wine

<03196> in their eldest <01060> brother's <0251> house <01004>:

 14 And there came <0935> a messenger <04397> unto Job <0347>,

and said <0559>, The oxen <01241> were plowing <02790>, and the

asses <0860> feeding <07462> beside them:

15 And the Sabeans <07614> fell <05307> [upon them], and took

<03947> them away; yea, they have slain <05221> the servants

<05288> with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>; and I only

<07535> am escaped <04422> alone <0905> to tell <05046> thee.

16 While he [was] yet speaking <01696>, there came <0935> also

another <02088>, and said <0559>, The fire <0784> of God <0430>

is fallen <05307> from heaven <08064>, and hath burned <01197>

up the sheep <06629>, and the servants <05288>, and consumed

<0398> them; and I only <07535> am escaped <04422> alone <0905>

to tell <05046> thee.

17 While he [was] yet speaking <01696>, there came <0935> also

another <02088>, and said <0559>, The Chaldeans <03778> made

<07760> out three <07969> bands <07218>, and fell <06584> upon

the camels <01581>, and have carried <03947> them away, yea, and

slain <05221> the servants <05288> with the edge <06310> of the

sword <02719>; and I only <07535> am escaped <04422> alone

<0905> to tell <05046> thee.

18 While he [was] yet speaking <01696>, there came <0935> also

another <02088>, and said <0559>, Thy sons <01121> and thy

daughters <01121> [were] eating <0398> and drinking <08354> wine

<03196> in their eldest <01060> brother's <0251> house <01004>:

 19 And, behold <02009>, there came <0935> a great <01419> wind

<07307> from the wilderness <04057>, and smote <05060> the four

<0702> corners <06438> of the house <01004>, and it fell <05307>

upon the young <05288> men, and they are dead <04191>; and I

only <07535> am escaped <04422> alone <0905> to tell <05046>

thee.

 20. Then Job <0347> arose <06965>, and rent <07167> his mantle

<04598>, and shaved <01494> his head <07218>, and fell <05307>

down upon the ground <0776>, and worshipped <07812>,

 21 And said <0559>, Naked <06174> came <03318> I out of my

mother's <0517> womb <0990>, and naked <06174> shall I return

<07725> thither <08033>: the LORD <03068> gave <05414>, and the

LORD <03068> hath taken <03947> away; blessed <01288> be the

name <08034> of the LORD <03068>.

 22 In all <03605> this <02063> Job <0347> sinned <02398> not,

nor <03808> charged <05414> God <0430> foolishly <08604>.

Job 2

 1. Again there was a day <03117> when the sons <01121> of God

<0430> came <0935> to present <03320> themselves before <05921>

the LORD <03068>, and Satan <07854> came <0935> also <01571>

among <08432> them to present <03320> himself before <06440> the

LORD <03068>.

2 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Satan <07854>, From

whence comest <0935> thou? And Satan <07854> answered <06030>

the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>, From going <07751> to and fro

<07751> in the earth <0776>, and from walking <01980> up and

down in it.

3 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Satan <07854>, Hast

thou considered my servant <05650> Job <0347>, that [there is]

none <0369> like <03644> him in the earth <0776>, a perfect

<08535> and an upright <03477> man <0376>, one that feareth

<03373> God <0430>, and escheweth <05493> evil <07451>? and

still <05750> he holdeth <02388> fast his integrity <08538>,

although thou movedst <05496> me against him, to destroy <01104>

him without <02600> cause <02600>.

4 And Satan <07854> answered <06030> the LORD <03068>, and said

<0559>, Skin <05785> for skin <05785>, yea, all <03605> that a

man <0376> hath will he give <05414> for his life <05315>.

 5 But put <07971> forth <07971> thine hand <03027> now <04994>,

and touch <05060> his bone <06106> and his flesh <01320>, and he

will curse <01288> thee to thy face <06440>.

6 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Satan <07854>, Behold

<02009>, he [is] in thine hand <03027>; but save <08104> his

life <05315>.

 7. So went <03318> Satan <07854> forth <03318> from the

presence <06440> of the LORD <03068>, and smote <05221> Job

<0347> with sore <07451> boils <07822> from the sole <03709> of

his foot <07272> unto his crown <06936>.

 8 And he took <03947> him a potsherd <02789> to scrape <01623>

himself withal; and he sat <03427> down among <08432> the ashes

<0665>.

9 Then said <0559> his wife <0802> unto him, Dost thou still

<05750> retain <02388> thine integrity <08538>? curse <01288>

God <0430>, and die <04191>.

10 But he said <0559> unto her, Thou speakest <01696> as one

<0259> of the foolish <05039> women speaketh <01696>. What

<01571>? shall we receive <06901> good <02896> at the hand

<0854> of God <0430>, and shall we not receive <06901> evil

<07451>? In all <03605> this <02063> did not Job <0347> sin

<02398> with his lips <08193>.

 11. Now when Job's <0347> three <07969> friends <07453> heard

<08085> of all <03605> this <02063> evil <07451> that was come

<0935> upon him, they came <0935> every <0376> one <0376> from

his own place <04725>; Eliphaz <0464> the Temanite <08489>, and

Bildad <01085> the Shuhite <07747>, and Zophar <06691> the

Naamathite <05284>: for they had made an appointment <03259>

together <03162> to come <0935> to mourn <05110> with him and to

comfort <05162> him.

12 And when they lifted <05375> up their eyes <05869> afar

<07350> off, and knew <05234> him not, they lifted <05375> up

their voice <06963>, and wept <01058>; and they rent <07167>

every <0376> one <0376> his mantle <04598>, and sprinkled

<02236> dust <06083> upon their heads <07218> toward heaven

<08064>.

13 So they sat <03427> down with him upon the ground <0776>

seven <07651> days <03117> and seven <07651> nights <03915>, and

none <0369> spake <01696> a word <01697> unto him: for they saw

<07200> that [his] grief <03511> was very <03966> great <01431>.

Job 3

 1. After <0310> this <03651> opened <06605> Job <0347> his

mouth <06310>, and cursed <07043> his day <03117>.

 2 And Job <0347> spake <06030>, and said <0559>,

 3 Let the day <03117> perish <06> wherein I was born <03205>,

and the night <03915> [in which] it was said <0559>, There is a

man <01397> child conceived <02030>.

4 Let that day <03117> be darkness <02822>; let not God <0433>

regard <01875> it from above <04605>, neither <0408> let the

light <05105> shine <03313> upon it.

5 Let darkness <02822> and the shadow <06757> of death <06757>

stain <01350> it; let a cloud <06053> dwell <07931> upon it; let

the blackness <03650> of the day <03117> terrify <01204> it.

6 As [for] that night <03915>, let darkness <0652> seize

<03947> upon it; let it not be joined <02302> unto the days

<03117> of the year <08141>, let it not come <0935> into the

number <04557> of the months <03391>.

7 Lo <02009>, let that night <03915> be solitary <01565>, let

no <0408> joyful <07445> voice come <0935> therein.

8 Let them curse <05344> it that curse <0779> the day <03117>,

who are ready <06264> to raise <05782> up their mourning <03382>.

9 Let the stars <03556> of the twilight <05399> thereof be dark

<02821>; let it look <06960> for light <0216>, but [have] none

<0369>; neither <0408> let it see <07200> the dawning <06079> of

the day <07837>:

10 Because <03588> it shut <05462> not up the doors <01817> of

my [mother's] womb <0990>, nor hid <05641> sorrow <03999> from

mine eyes <05869>.

 11. Why <04100> died <04191> I not from the womb <07358>? [why]

did I [not] give <01478> up the ghost <01478> when I came

<03318> out of the belly <0990>?

12 Why <04069> did the knees <01290> prevent <06923> me? or why

<04069> the breasts <07699> that I should suck <03243>?

13 For now <06258> should I have lain <07901> still and been

quiet <08252>, I should have slept <03462>: then <0227> had I

been at rest <05117>,

14 With kings <04428> and counsellors <03289> of the earth

<0776>, which built <01129> desolate <02723> places <02723> for

themselves;

15 Or <0176> with princes <08269> that had gold <02091>, who

filled <04390> their houses <01004> with silver <03701>:

16 Or <0176> as an hidden <02934> untimely <05309> birth

<05309> I had not been <01961>; as infants <05768> [which] never

<03808> saw <07200> light <0216>.

 17 There <08033> the wicked <07563> cease <02308> [from]

troubling <07267>; and there <08033> the weary <03019> be at

rest <05117>.

 18 [There] the prisoners <0615> rest <07599> together <03162>;

they hear <08085> not the voice <06963> of the oppressor <05065>.

19 The small <06996> and great <01419> are there <08033>; and

the servant <05650> [is] free <02670> from his master <0113>.

 20. Wherefore <04100> is light <0216> given <05414> to him that

is in misery <06001>, and life <02416> unto the bitter <04751>

[in] soul <05315>;

 21 Which long <02442> for death <04194>, but it [cometh] not;

and dig <02658> for it more than for hid <04301> treasures

<04301>;

22 Which rejoice <08055> exceedingly, [and] are glad <07797>,

when <03588> they can find <04672> the grave <06913>?

23 [Why is light given] to a man <01397> whose <0834> way

<01870> is hid <05641>, and whom God <0433> hath hedged <05526>

in?

 24 For my sighing <0585> cometh <0935> before <06440> I eat

<03899>, and my roarings <07581> are poured <05413> out like the

waters <04325>.

25 For the thing which I greatly feared <06342> is come <0857>

upon me, and that which <0834> I was afraid <03025> of is come

<0935> unto me.

 26 I was not in safety <07951>, neither <03808> had I rest

<08252>, neither <03808> was I quiet <05117>; yet trouble

<07267> came <0935>.

Job 4

 1. Then Eliphaz <0464> the Temanite <08489> answered <06030>

and said <0559>,

2 [If] we assay <05254> to commune <01697> with thee, wilt thou

be grieved <03811>? but who <04310> can <03201> withhold <06113>

himself from speaking <04405>?

 3 Behold <02009>, thou hast instructed <03256> many <07227>,

and thou hast strengthened <02388> the weak <07504> hands

<03027>.

4 Thy words <04405> have upholden <06965> him that was falling

<03782>, and thou hast strengthened <0553> the feeble <03766>

knees <01290>.

5 But now <06258> it is come <0935> upon thee, and thou

faintest <03811>; it toucheth <05060> thee, and thou art

troubled <0926>.

6 [Is] not [this] thy fear <03374>, thy confidence <03690>, thy

hope <08615>, and the uprightness <08537> of thy ways <01870>?

 7. Remember <02142>, I pray <04994> thee, who <04310> [ever]

perished <06>, being innocent <05355>? or where <0375> were the

righteous <06662> cut <03582> off?

8 Even as I have seen <07200>, they that plow <02790> iniquity

<0205>, and sow <02232> wickedness <05999>, reap <07114> the

same.

9 By the blast <05397> of God <0433> they perish <06>, and by

the breath <07307> of his nostrils <0639> are they consumed

<03615>.

10 The roaring <07581> of the lion <0738>, and the voice

<06963> of the fierce <07826> lion <07826>, and the teeth

<08127> of the young <03715> lions <03715>, are broken <05421>.

11 The old lion <03918> perisheth <06> for lack <01097> of prey

<02964>, and the stout lion's <03833> whelps <01121> are

scattered <06504> abroad <06504>.

 12. Now a thing <01697> was secretly <01589> brought <01589> to

me, and mine ear <0241> received <03947> a little <08102>

thereof.

13 In thoughts <05587> from the visions <02384> of the night

<03915>, when deep <08639> sleep <08639> falleth <05307> on

<05921> men <0582>,

14 Fear <06343> came <07122> upon me, and trembling <07460>,

which made all <07230> my bones <06106> to shake <06342>.

 15 Then a spirit <07307> passed <02498> before <05921> my face

<06440>; the hair <08185> of my flesh <01320> stood <05568> up:

16 It stood <05975> still, but I could not discern <05234> the

form <04758> thereof: an image <08544> [was] before <05048> mine

eyes <05869>, [there was] silence <01827>, and I heard <08085> a

voice <06963>, [saying],

17 Shall mortal <0582> man <0582> be more just <06663> than God

<0433>? shall a man <01396> be more pure <02891> than his maker

<06213>?

18 Behold <02005>, he put no <03808> trust <0539> in his

servants <05650>; and his angels <04397> he charged <07760> with

folly <08417>:

19 How <0637> much <0637> less [in] them that dwell <07931> in

houses <01004> of clay <02563>, whose <0834> foundation <03247>

[is] in the dust <06083>, [which] are crushed <01792> before

<06440> the moth <06211>?

20 They are destroyed <03807> from morning <01242> to evening

<06153>: they perish <06> for ever <05331> without any regarding

<07760> [it].

21 Doth not their excellency <03499> [which is] in them go

<05265> away <05265>? they die <04191>, even without <03808>

wisdom <02451>.

Job 5

 1. Call <07121> now <04994>, if there be any that will answer

<06030> thee; and to which <04310> of the saints <06918> wilt

thou turn <06437>?

2 For wrath <03708> killeth <02026> the foolish <0191> man, and

envy <07068> slayeth <04191> the silly <06601> one.

 3 I have seen <07200> the foolish <0191> taking root <08327>:

but suddenly <06597> I cursed <05344> his habitation <05116>.

4 His children <01121> are far <07350> from safety <03468>, and

they are crushed <01792> in the gate <08179>, neither <0369> [is

there] any to deliver <05337> [them].

 5 Whose <0834> harvest <07105> the hungry <07456> eateth <0398>

up, and taketh <03947> it even out of the thorns <06791>, and

the robber <06782> swalloweth <07602> up their substance <02428>.

 6. Although <03588> affliction <0205> cometh <03318> not forth

<03318> of the dust <06083>, neither <03808> doth trouble

<05999> spring <06779> out of the ground <0127>;

 7 Yet <03588> man <0120> is born <03205> unto trouble <05999>,

as the sparks <07565> fly <05774> upward <01361>.

 8 I would seek <01875> unto God <0410>, and unto God <0430>

would I commit <07760> my cause <01700>:

 9 Which doeth <06213> great <01419> things and unsearchable;

marvellous <06381> things without number <04557>:

10 Who giveth <05414> rain <04306> upon the earth <0776>, and

sendeth <07971> waters <04325> upon the fields <02351>:

 11 To set <07760> up on high <04791> those that be low <08217>;

that those which mourn <06937> may be exalted <07682> to safety

<03468>.

12 He disappointeth <06565> the devices <04284> of the crafty

<06175>, so that their hands <03027> cannot perform [their]

enterprise <08454>.

13 He taketh <03920> the wise <02450> in their own craftiness

<06193>: and the counsel <06098> of the froward <06617> is

carried <04116> headlong.

14 They meet <06298> with darkness <02822> in the daytime

<03119>, and grope <04959> in the noonday <06672> as in the

night <03915>.

15 But he saveth <03467> the poor <034> from the sword <02719>,

from their mouth <06310>, and from the hand <03027> of the

mighty <02389>.

16 So the poor <01800> hath <01961> hope <08615>, and iniquity

<05766> stoppeth <07092> her mouth <06310>.

 17. Behold <02009>, happy <0835> [is] the man <0582> whom God

<0433> correcteth <03198>: therefore despise <03988> not thou

the chastening <04148> of the Almighty <07706>:

18 For he maketh sore <03510>, and bindeth <02280> up: he

woundeth <04272>, and his hands <03027> make whole <07495>.

19 He shall deliver <05337> thee in six <08337> troubles

<06869>: yea, in seven <07651> there shall no <03808> evil

<07451> touch <05060> thee.

20 In famine <07458> he shall redeem <06299> thee from death

<04194>: and in war <04421> from the power <03027> of the sword

<02719>.

21 Thou shalt be hid <02244> from the scourge <07752> of the

tongue <03956>: neither <03808> shalt thou be afraid <03372> of

destruction <07701> when <03588> it cometh <0935>.

22 At destruction <07701> and famine <03720> thou shalt laugh

<07832>: neither <0408> shalt thou be afraid <03372> of the

beasts <02416> of the earth <0776>.

23 For thou shalt be in league <01285> with the stones <068> of

the field <07704>: and the beasts <02416> of the field <07704>

shall be at peace <07999> with thee.

24 And thou shalt know <03045> that thy tabernacle <0168>

[shall be] in peace <07965>; and thou shalt visit <06485> thy

habitation <05116>, and shalt not sin <02398>.

25 Thou shalt know <03045> also that thy seed <02233> [shall

be] great <07227>, and thine offspring <06631> as the grass

<06212> of the earth <0776>.

26 Thou shalt come <0935> to [thy] grave <06913> in a full

<03624> age <03624>, like as a shock <01430> of corn cometh

<05927> in in his season <06256>.

27 Lo <02009> this <02063>, we have searched <02713> it, so

<03651> it [is]; hear <08085> it, and know <03045> thou [it] for

thy good.

Job 6

 1. But Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

2 Oh that my grief <03708> were throughly weighed <08254>, and

my calamity <01942> laid <05375> in the balances <03976>

together <03162>!

3 For now <06258> it would be heavier <03513> than the sand

<02344> of the sea <03220>: therefore my words <01697> are

swallowed <03886> up.

4 For the arrows <02671> of the Almighty <07706> [are] within

<05978> me, the poison <02534> whereof <0834> drinketh <08354>

up my spirit <07307>: the terrors <01161> of God <0433> do set

themselves in array <06186> against me.

5 Doth the wild <06501> ass <06501> bray <05101> when he hath

grass <01877>? or loweth <01600> the ox <07794> over <05921> his

fodder <01098>?

6 Can that which is unsavoury <08602> be eaten <0398> without

<01097> salt <04417>? or is there <08033> [any] taste <02940> in

the white <07388> of an egg <02495>?

7 The things [that] my soul <05315> refused <03985> to touch

<05060> [are] as my sorrowful <01741> meat <03899>.

 8. Oh that I might have <0935> my request <07596>; and that God

<0433> would grant <05414> [me] the thing that I long <08615>

for!

9 Even that it would please <02894> God <0433> to destroy

<01792> me; that he would let loose <05425> his hand <03027>,

and cut <01214> me off!

 10 Then should I yet <05750> have <01961> comfort <05165>; yea,

I would harden <05539> myself in sorrow <02427>: let him not

spare <02550>; for I have not concealed <03582> the words <0561>

of the Holy <06918> One.

11 What <04100> [is] my strength <03581>, that I should hope

<03176>? and what <04100> [is] mine end <07093>, that I should

prolong <0748> my life <05315>?

12 [Is] my strength <03581> the strength <03581> of stones

<068>? or [is] my flesh <01320> of brass <05153>?

13 [Is] not my help <05833> in me? and is wisdom <08454> driven

<05080> quite <05080> from me?

 14. To him that is afflicted <04523> pity <02617> [should be

shewed] from his friend <07453>; but he forsaketh <05800> the

fear <03374> of the Almighty <07706>.

15 My brethren <0251> have dealt deceitfully <0898> as a brook

<05158>, [and] as the stream <0650> of brooks <05158> they pass

<05674> away;

16 Which are blackish <06937> by reason <04480> of the ice

<07140>, [and] wherein the snow <07950> is hid <05956>:

17 What time <06256> they wax warm <02215>, they vanish <06789>:

when it is hot <02527>, they are consumed <01846> out of their

place <04725>.

18 The paths <0734> of their way <01870> are turned <03943>

aside <03943>; they go <05927> to nothing <08414>, and perish

<06>.

19 The troops <0734> of Tema <08485> looked <05027>, the

companies <01979> of Sheba <07614> waited <06960> for them.

20 They were confounded <0954> because <03588> they had hoped

<0982>; they came <0935> thither <05704>, and were ashamed

<02659>.

21 For now <06258> ye are nothing <03808>; ye see <07200> [my]

casting <02866> down, and are afraid <03372>.

 22. Did I say <0559>, Bring <06051> unto me? or, Give a reward

<07809> for me of your substance <03581>?

23 Or, Deliver <04422> me from the enemy's <06862> hand

<03027>? or, Redeem <06299> me from the hand <03027> of the

mighty <06184>?

 24 Teach <03384> me, and I will hold <02790> my tongue <02790>:

and cause me to understand <0995> wherein <04100> I have erred

<07683>.

 25 How <04100> forcible <04834> are right <03476> words <0561>!

but what <04100> doth your arguing <03198> reprove <03198>?

26 Do ye imagine <02803> to reprove <03198> words <04405>, and

the speeches <0561> of one that is desperate <02976>, [which

are] as wind <07307>?

27 Yea <0637>, ye overwhelm <05307> the fatherless <03490>, and

ye dig <03738> [a pit] for your friend <07451>.

28 Now <06258> therefore be content <02974>, look <06437> upon

me; for [it is] evident unto you if <0518> I lie <03576>.

29 Return <07725>, I pray <04994> you, let it not be iniquity

<05766>; yea, return <07725> again <05750>, my righteousness

<06664> [is] in it.

30 Is there iniquity <05766> in my tongue <03956>? cannot

<03808> my taste <02441> discern <0995> perverse <01942> things?

Job 7

 1. [Is there] not an appointed <06635> time <06635> to man

<0582> upon earth <0776>? [are not] his days <03117> also like

the days <03117> of an hireling <07916>?

2 As a servant <05650> earnestly desireth <07602> the shadow

<06738>, and as an hireling <07916> looketh <06960> for [the

reward of] his work <06467>:

 3 So <03651> am I made to possess <05157> months <03391> of

vanity <07723>, and wearisome <05999> nights <03915> are

appointed <04487> to me.

 4 When <04970> I lie <07901> down <07901>, I say <0559>, When

<04970> shall I arise <06965>, and the night <06153> be gone

<04059>? and I am full <07646> of tossings <05076> to and fro

unto the dawning <05399> of the day <05399>.

5 My flesh <01320> is clothed <03847> with worms <07415> and

clods <01487> of dust <06083>; my skin <05785> is broken <07280>,

 and become <03988> loathsome <03988>.

 6 My days <03117> are swifter <07043> than a weaver's shuttle

<0708>, and are spent <03615> without <0657> hope <08615>.

 7. O remember <02142> that my life <02416> [is] wind <07307>:

mine eye <05869> shall no <03808> more <07725> see <07200> good

<02896>.

8 The eye <05869> of him that hath seen <07210> me shall see

<07789> me no <03808> [more]: thine eyes <05869> [are] upon me,

and I [am] not.

9 [As] the cloud <06051> is consumed <03615> and vanisheth

<03212> away: so <03651> he that goeth <03381> down <03381> to

the grave <07585> shall come <05927> up no <03808> [more].

10 He shall return <07725> no <03808> more <05750> to his house

<01004>, neither <03808> shall his place <04725> know <05234>

him any more <05750>.

11 Therefore <01571> I will not refrain <02820> my mouth

<06310>; I will speak <01696> in the anguish <06862> of my

spirit <07307>; I will complain <07878> in the bitterness

<04751> of my soul <05315>.

 12 [Am] I a sea <03220>, or a whale <08577>, that thou settest

<07760> a watch <04929> over <05921> me?

 13 When <03588> I say <0559>, My bed <06210> shall comfort

<05162> me, my couch <04904> shall ease <05375> my complaint

<07878>;

14 Then thou scarest <02865> me with dreams <02472>, and

terrifiest <01204> me through visions <02384>:

15 So that my soul <05315> chooseth <0977> strangling <04267>,

[and] death <04194> rather than my life <06106>.

 16 I loathe <03988> [it]; I would not live <02421> alway

<05769>: let me alone <02308>; for my days <03117> [are] vanity

<01892>.

 17. What <04100> [is] man <0582>, that thou shouldest magnify

<01431> him? and that thou shouldest set <07896> thine heart

<03820> upon him?

18 And [that] thou shouldest visit <06485> him every morning

<01242>, [and] try <0974> him every moment <07281>?

19 How <05704> long <04101> wilt thou not depart <08159> from

me, nor <03808> let me alone <07503> till <05704> I swallow

<01104> down my spittle <07536>?

 20 I have sinned <02398>; what <04100> shall I do <06466> unto

thee, O thou preserver <05314> of men <0120>? why <04100> hast

thou set <07760> me as a mark <04645> against thee, so that I am

a burden <04853> to myself?

21 And why <04100> dost thou not pardon <05375> my

transgression <06588>, and take <05674> away <05674> mine

iniquity <05771>? for now <06258> shall I sleep <07901> in the

dust <06083>; and thou shalt seek <07836> me in the morning

<07836>, but I [shall] not [be].

Job 8

 1. Then answered <06030> Bildad <01085> the Shuhite <07747>,

and said <0559>,

 2 How <05704> long <05704> wilt thou speak <04448> these <0428>

[things]? and [how long shall] the words <0561> of thy mouth

<06310> [be like] a strong <03524> wind <07307>?

3 Doth God <0410> pervert <05791> judgment <04941>? or doth the

Almighty <07706> pervert <05791> justice <06664>?

4 If <0518> thy children <01121> have sinned <02398> against

him, and he have cast <07971> them away for their transgression

<06588>;

5 If <0518> thou wouldest seek <07836> unto God <0410> betimes

<07836>, and make thy supplication <02603> to the Almighty

<07706>;

 6 If <0518> thou [wert] pure <02134> and upright <03477>;

surely <03588> now <06258> he would awake <05782> for thee, and

make the habitation <05116> of thy righteousness <06664>

prosperous <07999>.

7 Though thy beginning <07225> was small <04705>, yet thy

latter <0319> end should greatly <03966> increase <07685>.

 8. For enquire <07592>, I pray <04994> thee, of the former

<07223> age <01755>, and prepare <03559> thyself to the search

<02714> of their fathers <01>:

9 (For we [are but of] yesterday <08543>, and know <03045>

nothing <03808>, because <03588> our days <03117> upon earth

<0776> [are] a shadow <06738>:)

10 Shall not they teach <03384> thee, [and] tell <0559> thee,

and utter <03318> words <04405> out of their heart <03820>?

11 Can the rush <01573> grow <01342> up without <03808> mire

<01207>? can the flag <0260> grow <06779> without <01097> water

<04325>?

12 Whilst <05704> it [is] yet <05750> in his greenness <03>,

[and] not cut <06998> down, it withereth <03001> before <06440>

any <03605> [other] herb <02682>.

13 So <03651> [are] the paths <0734> of all <03605> that forget

<07911> God <0410>; and the hypocrite's <02611> hope <08615>

shall perish <06>:

14 Whose <0834> hope <03689> shall be cut <06990> off, and

whose trust <04009> [shall be] a spider's <05908> web <01004>.

15 He shall lean <08172> upon his house <01004>, but it shall

not stand <05975>: he shall hold <02388> it fast, but it shall

not endure <06965>.

16 He [is] green <07373> before <06440> the sun <08121>, and

his branch <03127> shooteth <03318> forth <03318> in his garden

<01593>.

17 His roots <08328> are wrapped <05440> about <05440> the heap

<01530>, [and] seeth <02372> the place <01004> of stones <068>.

18 If <0518> he destroy <01104> him from his place <04725>,

then [it] shall deny <03584> him, [saying], I have not seen

<07200> thee.

19 Behold <02005>, this <01931> [is] the joy <04885> of his way

<01870>, and out of the earth <06083> shall others <0312> grow

<06779>.

 20. Behold <02005>, God <0410> will not cast <03988> away a

perfect <08535> [man], neither <03808> will he help <02388> the

evil <07489> doers:

21 Till <05704> he fill <04390> thy mouth <06310> with laughing

<07814>, and thy lips <08193> with rejoicing <08643>.

22 They that hate <08130> thee shall be clothed <03847> with

shame <01322>; and the dwelling <0168> place of the wicked

<07563> shall come to nought <0369>.

Job 9

 1. Then Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

 2 I know <03045> [it is] so <03651> of a truth <0551>: but how

<04100> should man <0582> be just <06663> with God <0410>?

3 If <0518> he will contend <07378> with him, he cannot <03808>

answer <06030> him one <0259> of a thousand <0505>.

4 [He is] wise <02450> in heart <03824>, and mighty <0533> in

strength <03581>: who <04310> hath hardened <07185> [himself]

against <0413> him, and hath prospered <07999>?

5 Which removeth <06275> the mountains <02022>, and they know

<03045> not: which <0834> overturneth <02015> them in his anger

<0639>.

6 Which shaketh <07264> the earth <0776> out of her place

<04725>, and the pillars <05982> thereof tremble <06426>.

7 Which commandeth <0559> the sun <02775>, and it riseth

<02224> not; and sealeth <02856> up the stars <03556>.

8 Which alone <0905> spreadeth <05186> out the heavens <08064>,

and treadeth <01869> upon the waves <01116> of the sea <03220>.

 9 Which maketh <06213> Arcturus <05906>, Orion <03685>, and

Pleiades <03598>, and the chambers <02315> of the south <08486>.

10 Which doeth <06213> great <01419> things past <0369> finding

<02714> out; yea, and wonders <06381> without number <04557>.

11 Lo <02005>, he goeth <05674> by me, and I see <07200> [him]

not: he passeth <02498> on also, but I perceive <0995> him not.

 12 Behold <02005>, he taketh <02862> away <02862>, who <04310>

can hinder <07725> him? who <04310> will say <0559> unto him,

What <04100> doest <06213> thou?

13 [If] God <0433> will not withdraw <07725> his anger <0639>,

the proud <07293> helpers <05826> do stoop <07817> under <08478>

him.

 14. How <0637> much less shall I answer <06030> him, [and]

choose <0977> out my words <01697> [to reason] with him?

 15 Whom <0834>, though <0518> I were righteous <06663>, [yet]

would I not answer <06030>, [but] I would make supplication

<02603> to my judge <08199>.

 16 If <0518> I had called <07121>, and he had answered <06030>

me; [yet] would I not believe <0539> that he had hearkened

<0238> unto my voice <06963>.

17 For he breaketh <07779> me with a tempest <08183>, and

multiplieth <07235> my wounds <06482> without <02600> cause

<02600>.

18 He will not suffer <05414> me to take my breath <07307>, but

filleth <07646> me with bitterness <04472>.

 19 If <0518> [I speak] of strength <03581>, lo <02009>, [he is]

strong <0533>: and if <0518> of judgment <04941>, who <04310>

shall set <03259> me a time [to plead]?

 20 If <0518> I justify <06663> myself, mine own mouth <06310>

shall condemn <07561> me: [if I say], I [am] perfect <08535>, it

shall also prove me perverse <06140>.

21 [Though] I [were] perfect <08535>, [yet] would I not know

<03045> my soul <05315>: I would despise <03988> my life <02416>.

 22. This <01931> [is] one <0259> [thing], therefore I said

<0559> [it], He destroyeth <03615> the perfect <08535> and the

wicked <07563>.

 23 If <0518> the scourge <07752> slay <04191> suddenly <06597>,

he will laugh <03932> at the trial <04531> of the innocent

<05355>.

24 The earth <0776> is given <05414> into the hand <03027> of

the wicked <07563>: he covereth <04374> the faces <06440> of the

judges <08199> thereof; if <0518> not, where <0645>, [and] who

<04310> [is] he?

 25. Now my days <03117> are swifter <07043> than <04480> a post

<07323>: they flee <01272> away, they see <07200> no <03808>

good <02896>.

26 They are passed <02498> away as the swift <016> ships <0591>:

as the eagle <05404> [that] hasteth <02907> to the prey <0400>.

 27 If <0518> I say <0559>, I will forget <07911> my complaint

<07878>, I will leave <05800> off my heaviness <06440>, and

comfort <01082> [myself]:

 28 I am afraid <03025> of all <03605> my sorrows <06094>, I

know <03045> that thou wilt not hold me innocent <05352>.

 29 [If] I be wicked <07561>, why <04100> then labour <03021> I

in vain <01892>?

 30 If <0518> I wash <07364> myself with snow <07950> water

<01119>, and make my hands <03709> never <01253> so clean

<02141>;

31 Yet <0227> shalt thou plunge <02881> me in the ditch <07845>,

and mine own clothes <08008> shall abhor <08581> me.

32 For [he is] not a man <0376>, as I [am, that] I should

answer <06030> him, [and] we should come <0935> together <03162>

in judgment <04941>.

33 Neither <03808> is there any daysman <03198> betwixt <0996>

us, [that] might lay <07896> his hand <03027> upon us both

<08147>.

34 Let him take <05493> his rod <07626> away <05493> from me,

and let not his fear <0367> terrify <01204> me:

35 [Then] would I speak <01696>, and not fear <03372> him; but

[it is] not so <03651> with me.

Job 10

 1. My soul <05315> is weary <05354> of my life <02416>; I will

leave <05800> my complaint <07878> upon myself; I will speak

<01696> in the bitterness <04751> of my soul <05315>.

 2 I will say <0559> unto God <0433>, Do not condemn <07561> me;

shew <03045> me wherefore thou contendest with me.

3 [Is it] good <02896> unto thee that thou shouldest oppress

<06231>, that thou shouldest despise <03988> the work <03018> of

thine hands <03709>, and shine <03313> upon the counsel <06098>

of the wicked <07563>?

4 Hast thou eyes <05869> of flesh <01320>? or seest <07200>

thou as man <0582> seeth <07200>?

5 [Are] thy days <03117> as the days <03117> of man <0582>?

[are] thy years <08141> as man's <01397> days <03117>,

6 That thou enquirest <01245> after <0310> mine iniquity

<05771>, and searchest <01875> after <0310> my sin <02403>?

7 Thou knowest <01847> that I am not wicked <07561>; and [there

is] none <0369> that can deliver <05337> out of thine hand

<03027>.

 8. Thine hands <03027> have made <06087> me and fashioned

<06213> me together <03162> round <05439> about; yet thou dost

destroy <01104> me.

9 Remember <02142>, I beseech <04994> thee, that thou hast made

<06213> me as the clay <02563>; and wilt thou bring <07725> me

into <0413> dust <06083> again <07725>?

10 Hast thou not poured <05413> me out as milk <02461>, and

curdled <07087> me like cheese <01385>?

11 Thou hast clothed <03847> me with skin <05785> and flesh

<01320>, and hast fenced <07753> me with bones <06106> and

sinews <01517>.

12 Thou hast granted <06213> me life <02416> and favour <02617>,

and thy visitation <06486> hath preserved <08104> my spirit

<07307>.

13 And these <0428> [things] hast thou hid <06845> in thine

heart <03824>: I know <03045> that this <02063> [is] with thee.

 14. If <0518> I sin <02398>, then thou markest <08104> me, and

thou wilt not acquit <05352> me from mine iniquity <05771>.

15 If <0518> I be wicked <07561>, woe <0480> unto me; and [if

<0518>] I be righteous <06662>, [yet] will I not lift <05375> up

my head <07218>. [I am] full <07646> of confusion <07036>;

therefore see <07200> thou mine affliction <06040>;

16 For it increaseth <01342>. Thou huntest <06679> me as a

fierce <07826> lion <07826>: and again <07725> thou shewest

thyself marvellous <06381> upon me.

 17 Thou renewest <02318> thy witnesses <05707> against <05048>

me, and increasest <07235> thine indignation <03708> upon me;

changes <02487> and war <06635> [are] against <05973> me.

18 Wherefore <04100> then hast thou brought <03318> me forth

<03318> out of the womb <07358>? Oh that I had given <01478> up

the ghost <01478>, and no <03808> eye <05869> had seen <07200>

me!

 19 I should have been <01961> as though I had not been <01961>;

I should have been carried <02986> from the womb <0990> to the

grave <06913>.

20 [Are] not my days <03117> few <04592>? cease <02308> [then,

and] let me alone <07896>, that I may take comfort <01082> a

little <04592>,

 21 Before <02962> I go <03212> [whence] I shall not return

<07725>, [even] to the land <0776> of darkness <02822> and the

shadow <06757> of death <06757>;

 22 A land <0776> of darkness <05890>, as darkness <05890>

[itself; and] of the shadow <06738> of death <06757>, without

<03808> any order <05468>, and [where] the light <03313> [is] as

darkness <0652>.

Job 11

 1. Then answered <06030> Zophar <06691> the Naamathite <05284>,

and said <0559>,

2 Should not the multitude <07230> of words <01697> be answered

<06030>? and should a man <0376> full of talk <08193> be

justified <06663>?

3 Should thy lies <0907> make men <04962> hold <02790> their

peace <02790>? and when thou mockest <03932>, shall no <0369>

man make thee ashamed <03637>?

4 For thou hast said <0559>, My doctrine <03948> [is] pure

<02134>, and I am clean <01249> in thine eyes <05869>.

5 But oh that God <0433> would speak <01696>, and open <06605>

his lips <08193> against <05973> thee;

6 And that he would shew <05046> thee the secrets <08587> of

wisdom <02451>, that [they are] double <03718> to that which is!

Know <03045> therefore that God <0433> exacteth <05382> of thee

[less] than thine iniquity <05771> [deserveth].

 7. Canst thou by searching <02714> find <04672> out God <0433>?

canst thou find <04672> out the Almighty <07706> unto perfection

<08503>?

8 [It is] as high <01363> as heaven <08064>; what <04100> canst

thou do <06466>? deeper <06013> than <04480> hell <07585>; what

<04100> canst thou know <03045>?

9 The measure <04055> thereof [is] longer <0752> than <04480>

the earth <0776>, and broader <07342> than <04480> the sea

<03220>.

10 If <0518> he cut <02498> off, and shut <05462> up, or gather

<06950> together, then who <04310> can hinder <07725> him?

11 For he knoweth <03045> vain <07723> men <04962>: he seeth

<07200> wickedness <0205> also; will he not then consider <0995>

[it]?

12 For vain <05014> man would be wise <03823>, though man be

born <03205> [like] a wild <06501> ass's <06501> colt <05895>.

 13. If <0518> thou prepare <03559> thine heart <03820>, and

stretch <06566> out thine hands <03709> toward <0413> him;

14 If <0518> iniquity <0205> [be] in thine hand <03027>, put it

far <07350> away, and let not wickedness <05766> dwell <07931>

in thy tabernacles <0168>.

15 For then <0227> shalt thou lift <05375> up thy face <06440>

without spot <03971>; yea, thou shalt be stedfast <03332>, and

shalt not fear <03372>:

16 Because <03588> thou shalt forget <07911> [thy] misery

<05999>, [and] remember <02142> [it] as waters <04325> [that]

pass <05674> away:

17 And [thine] age <02465> shall be clearer <06965> than the

noonday <06672>; thou shalt shine <05774> forth, thou shalt be

as the morning <01242>.

18 And thou shalt be secure <0982>, because <03588> there is

hope <08615>; yea, thou shalt dig <02658> [about <05439> thee,

and] thou shalt take <07901> thy rest <07901> in safety <0983>.

19 Also thou shalt lie <07257> down <07257>, and none <0369>

shall make [thee] afraid <02729>; yea, many <07227> shall make

suit <02470> unto thee.

20 But the eyes <05869> of the wicked <07563> shall fail

<03615>, and they shall not escape, and their hope <08615>

[shall be as] the giving <04646> up of the ghost <05315>.

Job 12

 1. And Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

2 No <0551> doubt <0551> but ye [are] the people <05971>, and

wisdom <02451> shall die <04191> with you.

3 But I have understanding <03824> as well <071> as you; I [am

<01961>] not inferior <05307> to you: yea, who <04310> knoweth

<0854> not such <03644> things as these <0428>?

4 I am [as] one mocked <07832> of his neighbour <07453>, who

calleth <07121> upon God <0433>, and he answereth <06030> him:

the just <06662> upright <08549> [man is] laughed <07832> to

scorn.

5 He that is ready <03559> to slip <04571> with [his] feet

<07272> [is as] a lamp <03940> despised <0937> in the thought

<06248> of him that is at ease <07600>.

 6. The tabernacles <0168> of robbers <07703> prosper <07951>,

and they that provoke <07264> God <0410> are secure <0987>; into

whose <0834> hand <03027> God <0433> bringeth <0935>

[abundantly].

7 But ask <07592> now <04994> the beasts <0929>, and they shall

teach <03384> thee; and the fowls <05775> of the air <08064>,

and they shall tell <05046> thee:

8 Or <0176> speak <07878> to the earth <0776>, and it shall

teach <03384> thee: and the fishes <01709> of the sea <03220>

shall declare <05608> unto thee.

 9 Who <04310> knoweth <03045> not in all <03605> these <0428>

that the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068> hath wrought <06213>

this <02063>?

10 In whose <0834> hand <03027> [is] the soul <05315> of every

<03605> living <02416> thing, and the breath <07307> of all

<03605> mankind.

11 Doth not the ear <0241> try <0974> words <04405>? and the

mouth <02441> taste <02938> his meat <0400>?

 12. With the ancient <03453> [is] wisdom <02451>; and in length

<0753> of days <03117> understanding <08394>.

13 With him [is] wisdom <02451> and strength <01369>, he hath

counsel <06098> and understanding <08394>.

14 Behold <02005>, he breaketh <02040> down <02040>, and it

cannot <03808> be built <01129> again: he shutteth <05462> up a

man <0376>, and there can be no <03808> opening <06605>.

 15 Behold <02005>, he withholdeth <06113> the waters <04325>,

and they dry <03001> up: also he sendeth <07971> them out, and

they overturn <02015> the earth <0776>.

16 With him [is] strength <05797> and wisdom <08454>: the

deceived <07683> and the deceiver <07686> [are] his.

 17 He leadeth <03212> counsellors <03289> away spoiled <07758>,

and maketh the judges <08199> fools <01984>.

18 He looseth <06605> the bond <04148> of kings <04428>, and

girdeth <0631> their loins <04975> with a girdle <0232>.

19 He leadeth <03212> princes <03548> away spoiled <07758>, and

overthroweth <05557> the mighty <0386>.

20 He removeth <05493> away the speech <08193> of the trusty

<0539>, and taketh <03947> away the understanding <02940> of the

aged <02205>.

21 He poureth <08210> contempt <0937> upon princes <05081>, and

weakeneth <07503> the strength <04206> of the mighty <0650>.

22 He discovereth <01540> deep <06013> things out of darkness

<02822>, and bringeth <03318> out to light <0216> the shadow

<06757> of death <06757>.

23 He increaseth <07679> the nations <01471>, and destroyeth

<06> them: he enlargeth <07849> the nations <01471>, and

straiteneth <05148> them [again].

24 He taketh <05493> away <05493> the heart <03820> of the

chief <07218> of the people <05971> of the earth <0776>, and

causeth them to wander <08582> in a wilderness <08414> [where

there is] no <03808> way <01870>.

25 They grope <04959> in the dark <02822> without <03808> light

<0216>, and he maketh them to stagger <08582> like [a] drunken

<07910> [man].

Job 13

 1. Lo <02005>, mine eye <05869> hath seen <07200> all <03605>

[this], mine ear <0241> hath heard <08085> and understood <0995>

it.

2 What ye know <01847>, [the same] do I know <03045> also

<01571>: I [am] not inferior <05307> unto you.

 3 Surely <0199> I would speak <01696> to the Almighty <07706>,

and I desire <02654> to reason <03198> with God <0410>.

4 But ye [are] forgers <02950> of lies <08267>, ye [are] all

<03605> physicians <07495> of no <0457> value <0457>.

5 O that ye would altogether hold <02790> your peace <02790>!

and it should be your wisdom <02451>.

6 Hear <08085> now <04994> my reasoning <08433>, and hearken

<07181> to the pleadings <07379> of my lips <08193>.

7 Will ye speak <01696> wickedly <05766> for God <0410>? and

talk <01696> deceitfully <07423> for him?

8 Will ye accept <05375> his person <06440>? will ye contend

<07378> for God <0410>?

9 Is it good <02896> that he should search <02713> you out? or

as one man <0582> mocketh <02048> another, do ye [so] mock

<02048> him?

10 He will surely reprove <03198> you, if <0518> ye do secretly

<05643> accept <05375> persons <06440>.

11 Shall not his excellency <07613> make you afraid <01204>?

and his dread <06343> fall <05307> upon you?

12 Your remembrances <02146> [are] like <04911> unto ashes

<0665>, your bodies <01354> to bodies <01472> of clay <02563>.

 13. Hold <02790> your peace <02790>, let me alone, that I may

speak <01696>, and let come <05674> on me what <04100> [will].

14 Wherefore do I take <05375> my flesh <01320> in my teeth

<08127>, and put <07760> my life <05315> in mine hand <03709>?

15 Though he slay <06991> me, yet will I trust <03176> in him:

but I will maintain <03198> mine own ways <01870> before him.

16 He also <01571> [shall be] my salvation <03444>: for an

hypocrite <02611> shall not come <0935> before <06440> him.

17 Hear <08085> diligently my speech <04405>, and my

declaration <0262> with your ears <0241>.

 18 Behold <02009> now <04994>, I have <01961> ordered <06186>

[my] cause <04941>; I know <03045> that I shall be justified

<06663>.

19 Who <04310> [is] he [that] will plead <07378> with me? for

now <06258>, if <03588> I hold <02790> my tongue <02790>, I

shall give <01478> up the ghost <01478>.

20 Only <0389> do <06213> not two <08147> [things] unto me:

then <0227> will I not hide <05641> myself from thee.

21 Withdraw <07368> thine hand <03709> far <07350> from me: and

let not thy dread <0367> make me afraid <01204>.

 22 Then call <07121> thou, and I will answer <06030>: or <0176>

let me speak <01696>, and answer <07725> thou me.

 23. How <04100> many [are] mine iniquities <05771> and sins

<02403>? make me to know <03045> my transgression <06588> and my

sin <02403>.

24 Wherefore <04100> hidest <05641> thou thy face <06440>, and

holdest <02803> me for thine enemy <0341>?

 25 Wilt thou break <06206> a leaf <05929> driven <05086> to and

fro? and wilt thou pursue <07291> the dry <03002> stubble

<07179>?

26 For thou writest <03789> bitter <04846> things against

<05921> me, and makest me to possess <03423> the iniquities

<05771> of my youth <05271>.

27 Thou puttest <07760> my feet <07272> also in the stocks

<05465>, and lookest <08104> narrowly <08104> unto all <03605>

my paths <0734>; thou settest a print <02707> upon the heels

<08323> of my feet <07272>.

 28 And he, as a rotten <07538> thing, consumeth <01086>, as a

garment <0899> that is moth <06211> eaten <0398>.

Job 14

 1. Man <0120> [that is] born <03205> of a woman <0802> [is] of

few <07116> days <03117>, and full <07646> of trouble <07267>.

 2 He cometh <03318> forth <03318> like a flower <06731>, and is

cut <05243> down: he fleeth <01272> also as a shadow <06738>,

and continueth <05975> not.

3 And dost thou open <06491> thine eyes <05869> upon such

<02088> an one, and bringest <0935> me into judgment <04941>

with thee?

 4 Who <04310> can bring <05414> a clean <02889> [thing] out of

an unclean <02931>? not one <0259>.

5 Seeing <0518> his days <03117> [are] determined <02782>, the

number <04557> of his months <02320> [are] with thee, thou hast

appointed <06213> his bounds <02706> that he cannot <03808> pass

<05674>;

6 Turn <08159> from him, that he may rest <02308>, till <05704>

he shall accomplish <07521>, as an hireling <07916>, his day

<03117>.

 7. For there is hope <08615> of a tree <06086>, if it be cut

<03772> down, that it will sprout <02498> again <05750>, and

that the tender <03127> branch thereof will not cease <02308>.

8 Though <0518> the root <08328> thereof wax old <02204> in the

earth <0776>, and the stock <01503> thereof die <04191> in the

ground <06083>;

9 [Yet] through the scent <07381> of water <04325> it will bud

<06524>, and bring <06213> forth <06213> boughs <07105> like

<03644> a plant <05194>.

10 But man <01397> dieth <04191>, and wasteth <02522> away: yea,

man <0120> giveth <01478> up the ghost <01478>, and where

<0834> [is] he?

11 [As] the waters <04325> fail <0235> from the sea <03220>,

and the flood <05104> decayeth <02717> and drieth <03001> up:

 12 So man <0376> lieth <07901> down <07901>, and riseth <06965>

not: till <05704> the heavens <08064> [be] no <01115> more, they

shall not awake <06974>, nor <03808> be raised <05782> out of

their sleep <08142>.

13 O that thou wouldest hide <06845> me in the grave <07585>,

that thou wouldest keep me secret <05641>, until <05704> thy

wrath <0639> be past <07725>, that thou wouldest appoint <07896>

me a set <02706> time, and remember <02142> me!

 14 If <0518> a man <01397> die <04191>, shall he live <02421>

[again]? all <03605> the days <03117> of my appointed <06635>

time <06635> will I wait <03176>, till <05704> my change <02487>

come <0935>.

15 Thou shalt call <07121>, and I will answer <06030> thee:

thou wilt have a desire <03700> to the work <04639> of thine

hands <03027>.

 16. For now <06258> thou numberest <05608> my steps <06806>:

dost thou not watch <08104> over <05921> my sin <02403>?

17 My transgression <06588> [is] sealed <02856> up in a bag

<06872>, and thou sewest <02950> up mine iniquity <05771>.

 18 And surely <0199> the mountain <02022> falling <05307>

cometh <05034> to nought <05034>, and the rock <06697> is

removed <06275> out of his place <04725>.

19 The waters <04325> wear <07833> the stones <068>: thou

washest <07857> away the things which grow <05599> [out] of the

dust <06083> of the earth <0776>; and thou destroyest <06> the

hope <08615> of man <0582>.

20 Thou prevailest <08630> for ever <05331> against him, and he

passeth <01980>: thou changest <08138> his countenance <06440>,

and sendest <07971> him away.

21 His sons <01121> come to honour <03513>, and he knoweth

<03045> [it] not; and they are brought <06819> low <06819>, but

he perceiveth <0995> [it] not of them.

22 But his flesh <01320> upon him shall have pain <03510>, and

his soul <05315> within <05921> him shall mourn <056>.

Job 15

 1. Then answered <06030> Eliphaz <0464> the Temanite <08489>,

and said <0559>,

2 Should a wise <02450> man utter vain <07307> knowledge

<01847>, and fill <04390> his belly <0990> with the east <06921>

wind <07307>?

3 Should he reason <03198> with unprofitable <05532> talk

<01697>? or with speeches <04405> wherewith he can do <05953> no

<03808> good <03276>?

4 Yea <0637>, thou castest <06565> off fear <03374>, and

restrainest <01639> prayer <07878> before <06440> God <0410>.

5 For thy mouth <06310> uttereth <0502> thine iniquity <05771>,

and thou choosest <0977> the tongue <03956> of the crafty

<06175>.

6 Thine own mouth <06310> condemneth <07561> thee, and not I:

yea, thine own lips <08193> testify <06030> against thee.

7 [Art] thou the first <07223> man <0120> [that] was born

<03205>? or wast thou made <02342> before <06440> the hills

<01389>?

8 Hast thou heard <08085> the secret <05475> of God <0433>? and

dost thou restrain <01639> wisdom <02451> to thyself <0413>?

9 What <04100> knowest <03045> thou, that we know <03045> not?

[what] understandest <0995> thou, which <01931> [is] not in us?

10 With us [are] both <01571> the grayheaded and very <03453>

aged <03453> men, much <03524> elder than thy father <01>.

11 [Are] the consolations <08575> of God <0410> small <04592>

with thee? is there any secret <0328> thing <01697> with thee?

12 Why <04100> doth thine heart <03820> carry <03947> thee

away? and what <04100> do thy eyes <05869> wink <07335> at,

13 That thou turnest <07725> thy spirit <07307> against <0413>

God <0410>, and lettest [such] words <04405> go <03318> out of

thy mouth <06310>?

14 What <04100> [is] man <0582>, that he should be clean

<02135>? and [he which is] born <03205> of a woman <0802>, that

he should be righteous <06662>?

15 Behold <02005>, he putteth no <03808> trust <0539> in his

saints <06918>; yea, the heavens <08064> are not clean <02141>

in his sight <05869>.

16 How <0637> much more abominable <08581> and filthy <0444>

[is] man <0376>, which drinketh <08354> iniquity <05766> like

water <04325>?

 17. I will shew <02331> thee, hear <08085> me; and that [which]

I have seen <02372> I will declare <05608>;

18 Which <0834> wise <02450> men have told <05046> from their

fathers <01>, and have not hid <03582> [it]:

19 Unto whom <01992> alone <0905> the earth <0776> was given

<05414>, and no <03808> stranger <02114> passed <05674> among

<08432> them.

20 The wicked <07563> man travaileth <02342> with pain all

<03605> [his] days <03117>, and the number <04557> of years

<08141> is hidden <06845> to the oppressor <06184>.

 21 A dreadful <06343> sound <06963> [is] in his ears <0241>: in

prosperity <07965> the destroyer <07703> shall come <0935> upon

him.

22 He believeth <0539> not that he shall return <07725> out of

darkness <02822>, and he is waited <06822> for of the sword

<02719>.

 23 He wandereth <05074> abroad <05074> for bread <03899>,

[saying], Where <0346> [is it]? he knoweth <03045> that the day

<03117> of darkness <02822> is ready <03559> at his hand <03027>.

24 Trouble <06862> and anguish <04691> shall make him afraid

<01204>; they shall prevail <08630> against him, as a king

<04428> ready <06264> to the battle <03593>.

25 For he stretcheth <05186> out his hand <03027> against

<0413> God <0410>, and strengtheneth <01396> himself against

<0413> the Almighty <07706>.

26 He runneth <07323> upon him, [even] on [his] neck <06677>,

upon the thick <05672> bosses <01354> of his bucklers <04043>:

27 Because <03588> he covereth <03680> his face <06440> with

his fatness <02459>, and maketh <06213> collops <06371> of fat

<06371> on [his] flanks <03689>.

28 And he dwelleth <07931> in desolate <03582> cities <05892>,

[and] in houses <01004> which no <03808> man inhabiteth <03427>,

which <0834> are ready <06257> to become heaps <01530>.

29 He shall not be rich <06238>, neither <03808> shall his

substance <02428> continue <06965>, neither <03808> shall he

prolong <05186> the perfection <04512> thereof upon the earth

<0776>.

30 He shall not depart <05493> out of darkness <02822>; the

flame <07957> shall dry <03001> up his branches <03127>, and by

the breath <07307> of his mouth <06310> shall he go <05493> away.

31 Let not him that is deceived <08582> trust <0539> in vanity

<07723>: for vanity <07723> shall be his recompence <08545>.

32 It shall be accomplished <04390> before <03808> his time

<03117>, and his branch <03712> shall not be green <07488>.

33 He shall shake <02554> off his unripe <01154> grape <01154>

as the vine <01612>, and shall cast <07993> off his flower

<05328> as the olive <02132>.

34 For the congregation <05712> of hypocrites <02611> [shall

be] desolate <01565>, and fire <0784> shall consume <0398> the

tabernacles <0168> of bribery <07810>.

 35 They conceive <02029> mischief <05999>, and bring <03205>

forth <03205> vanity <0205>, and their belly <0990> prepareth

<03559> deceit <04820>.

Job 16

 1. Then Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

 2 I have heard <08085> many <07227> such <0428> things:

miserable <05999> comforters <05162> [are] ye all <03605>.

3 Shall vain <07307> words <01697> have an end <07093>? or

<0176> what <04100> emboldeneth <04834> thee that thou answerest

<06030>?

 4 I also <01571> could speak <01696> as ye [do]: if <03863>

your soul <05315> were in my soul's <05315> stead <08478>, I

could heap <02266> up words <04405> against <05921> you, and

shake <05128> mine head <07218> at you.

5 [But] I would strengthen <0553> you with my mouth <06310>,

and the moving <05205> of my lips <08193> should asswage <02820>

[your grief].

 6. Though <0518> I speak <01696>, my grief <03511> is not

asswaged <02820>: and [though] I forbear <02308>, what <04100>

am I eased <01980>?

7 But now <06258> he hath made me weary <03811>: thou hast made

desolate <08074> all <03605> my company <05712>.

8 And thou hast filled <07059> me with wrinkles <07059>,

[which] is a witness <05707> [against me]: and my leanness

<03585> rising <06965> up in me beareth <06030> witness <06030>

to my face <06440>.

9 He teareth <02963> [me] in his wrath <0639>, who hateth

<07852> me: he gnasheth <02786> upon me with his teeth <08127>;

mine enemy <06862> sharpeneth <03913> his eyes <05869> upon me.

 10 They have gaped <06473> upon me with their mouth <06310>;

they have smitten <05221> me upon the cheek <03895>

reproachfully <02781>; they have gathered <04390> themselves

together <03162> against <05921> me.

11 God <0410> hath delivered <05462> me to the ungodly <05760>,

and turned <03399> me over <05921> into <0413> the hands <03027>

of the wicked <07563>.

12 I was at ease <07961>, but he hath broken <06565> me asunder:

he hath also taken <0247> [me] by my neck <06203>, and shaken

<06327> me to pieces, and set <06965> me up for his mark <04307>.

13 His archers <07228> compass <05437> me round <05437> about,

he cleaveth <06398> my reins <03629> asunder, and doth not spare

<02550>; he poureth <08210> out my gall <04845> upon the ground

<0776>.

14 He breaketh <06555> me with breach <06556> upon breach

<06556>, he runneth <07323> upon me like a giant <01368>.

 15 I have sewed <08609> sackcloth <08242> upon my skin <01539>,

and defiled <05953> my horn <07161> in the dust <06083>.

16 My face <06440> is foul <02560> with weeping <01065>, and on

<05921> my eyelids <06079> [is] the shadow <06757> of death

<06757>;

 17. Not for [any] injustice <02555> in mine hands <03709>: also

my prayer <08605> [is] pure <02134>.

 18 O earth <0776>, cover <03680> not thou my blood <01818>, and

let my cry <02201> have <01961> no <0408> place <04725>.

 19 Also <01571> now <06258>, behold <02009>, my witness <05707>

[is] in heaven <08064>, and my record <07717> [is] on high

<04791>.

20 My friends <07453> scorn <03887> me: [but] mine eye <05869>

poureth <01811> out [tears] unto God <0433>.

21 O that one might plead <03198> for a man <01397> with God

<0433>, as a man <0120> [pleadeth] for his neighbour <07453>!

 22 When <03588> a few <04557> years <08141> are come <0857>,

then I shall go <01980> the way <0734> [whence] I shall not

return <07725>.

Job 17

 1. My breath <07307> is corrupt <02254>, my days <03117> are

extinct <02193>, the graves <06913> [are ready] for me.

2 [Are there] not mockers <02049> with me? and doth not mine

eye <05869> continue <03885> in their provocation <04784>?

3 Lay <07760> down now <04994>, put me in a surety <06148> with

thee; who <04310> [is] he [that] will strike <08628> hands

<03027> with me?

4 For thou hast hid <06845> their heart <03820> from

understanding <07922>: therefore shalt thou not exalt <07311>

[them].

5 He that speaketh <05046> flattery <02506> to [his] friends

<07453>, even the eyes <05869> of his children <01121> shall

fail <03615>.

6 He hath made <03322> me also a byword <04914> of the people

<05971>; and aforetime <06440> I was as a tabret <08611>.

7 Mine eye <05869> also is dim <03543> by reason of sorrow

<03708>, and all <03605> my members <03338> [are] as a shadow

<06738>.

8 Upright <03477> [men] shall be astonied <08074> at <05921>

this <02063>, and the innocent <05355> shall stir <05782> up

himself against <05921> the hypocrite <02611>.

9 The righteous <06662> also shall hold <0270> on his way

<01870>, and he that hath clean <02891> hands <03027> shall be

stronger <0555> and stronger <0555>.

 10. But as for you all <03605>, do ye return <07725>, and come

<0935> now <04994>: for I cannot <03808> find <04672> [one] wise

<02450> [man] among you.

11 My days <03117> are past <05674>, my purposes <02154> are

broken <05423> off, [even] the thoughts <04180> of my heart

<03824>.

12 They change <07760> the night <03915> into day <03117>: the

light <0216> [is] short <07138> because <06440> of darkness

<02822>.

 13 If <0518> I wait <06960>, the grave <07585> [is] mine house

<01004>: I have made <07502> my bed <03326> in the darkness

<02822>.

14 I have said <07121> to corruption <07845>, Thou [art] my

father <01>: to the worm <07415>, [Thou art] my mother <0517>,

and my sister <0269>.

15 And where [is] now <0645> my hope <08615>? as for my hope

<08615>, who <04310> shall see <07789> it?

16 They shall go <03381> down <03381> to the bars <0905> of the

pit <07585>, when <0518> [our] rest <05183> together <03162>

[is] in the dust <06083>.

Job 18

 1. Then answered <06030> Bildad <01085> the Shuhite <07747>,

and said <0559>,

2 How <05704> long <05704> [will it be ere] ye make <07760> an

end <07078> of words <04405>? mark <0995>, and afterwards <0310>

we will speak <01696>.

3 Wherefore <04069> are we counted <02803> as beasts <0929>,

[and] reputed <02804> vile <02933> in your sight <05869>?

4 He teareth <02963> himself <05315> in his anger <0639>: shall

the earth <0776> be forsaken <05800> for thee? and shall the

rock <06697> be removed <06275> out of his place <04725>?

 5. Yea <01571>, the light <0216> of the wicked <07563> shall be

put <01846> out, and the spark <07632> of his fire <0784> shall

not shine <05050>.

6 The light <0216> shall be dark <02821> in his tabernacle

<0168>, and his candle <05216> shall be put <01846> out with him.

7 The steps <06806> of his strength <0202> shall be straitened

<03334>, and his own counsel <06098> shall cast <07993> him down.

8 For he is cast <07971> into a net <07568> by his own feet

<07272>, and he walketh <01980> upon a snare <07639>.

9 The gin <06341> shall take <0270> [him] by the heel <06119>,

[and] the robber <06782> shall prevail <02388> against <05921>

him.

10 The snare <02256> [is] laid for him in the ground <0776>,

and a trap <04434> for him in the way <05410>.

 11. Terrors <01091> shall make him afraid <01204> on every

<05437> side <05439>, and shall drive <06327> him to his feet

<07272>.

12 His strength <0202> shall be hungerbitten <07457>, and

destruction <0343> [shall be] ready <03559> at his side <06763>.

13 It shall devour <0398> the strength <0905> of his skin

<05785>: [even] the firstborn <01060> of death <04194> shall

devour <0398> his strength <0905>.

14 His confidence <04009> shall be rooted <05423> out of his

tabernacle <0168>, and it shall bring <06805> him to the king

<04428> of terrors <01091>.

15 It shall dwell <07931> in his tabernacle <0168>, because [it

is] none <01097> of his: brimstone <01614> shall be scattered

<02219> upon his habitation <05116>.

16 His roots <08328> shall be dried <03001> up beneath <08478>,

and above <04605> shall his branch <07105> be cut <05243> off.

17 His remembrance <02143> shall perish <06> from the earth

<0776>, and he shall have no <03808> name <08034> in the street.

18 He shall be driven <01920> from light <0216> into darkness

<02822>, and chased <05074> out of the world <08398>.

19 He shall neither <03808> have son <05209> nor <03808> nephew

<05220> among his people <05971>, nor <03808> any remaining

<08300> in his dwellings <04033>.

20 They that come after <0314> [him] shall be astonied <08074>

at <05921> his day <03117>, as they that went <06923> before

<06931> were affrighted.

21 Surely <0389> such <0428> [are] the dwellings <04908> of the

wicked <05767>, and this <02088> [is] the place <04725> [of him

that] knoweth <03045> not God <0410>.

Job 19

 1. Then Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

 2 How <05704> long <05704> will ye vex <03013> my soul <05315>,

and break <01792> me in pieces with words <04405>?

3 These <02088> ten <06235> times <06471> have ye reproached

<03637> me: ye are not ashamed <0954> [that] ye make yourselves

strange <01970> to me.

4 And be it indeed <0551> [that] I have erred <07683>, mine

error <04879> remaineth <03885> with myself.

5 If <0518> indeed <0551> ye will magnify <01431> [yourselves]

against <05921> me, and plead <03198> against <05921> me my

reproach <02781>:

6 Know <03045> now <0645> that God <0433> hath overthrown

<05791> me, and hath compassed <05362> me with his net <04685>.

 7 Behold <02005>, I cry <06817> out of wrong <02555>, but I am

not heard <06030>: I cry <07768> aloud <07768>, but [there is]

no <03808> judgment <04941>.

 8. He hath fenced <01443> up my way <0734> that I cannot

<03808> pass <05674>, and he hath set <07760> darkness <02822>

in my paths <05410>.

9 He hath stripped <06584> me of my glory <03519>, and taken

<05493> the crown <05850> [from] my head <07218>.

10 He hath destroyed <05422> me on every <05437> side <05439>,

and I am gone <03212>: and mine hope <08615> hath he removed

<05265> like a tree <06086>.

11 He hath also kindled <02734> his wrath <0639> against

<05921> me, and he counteth <02803> me unto him as [one of] his

enemies <06862>.

12 His troops <01416> come <0935> together <03162>, and raise

<05549> up their way <01870> against <05921> me, and encamp

<02583> round <05439> about my tabernacle <0168>.

13 He hath put my brethren <0251> far <07350> from me, and mine

acquaintance <03045> are verily <0389> estranged <02114> from me.

14 My kinsfolk <07138> have failed <02308>, and my familiar

<03045> friends have forgotten <07911> me.

15 They that dwell <01481> in mine house <01004>, and my maids

<0519>, count <02803> me for a stranger <02114>: I am an alien

<05237> in their sight <05869>.

16 I called <07121> my servant <05650>, and he gave [me] no

<03808> answer <06030>; I intreated <02603> him with my mouth

<06310>.

17 My breath <07307> is strange <02114> to my wife <0802>,

though I intreated <02589> for the children's <01121> [sake] of

mine own body <0990>.

18 Yea <01571>, young children despised <03988> me; I arose

<06965>, and they spake <01696> against me.

 19 All <03605> my inward <05475> friends <04962> abhorred

<08581> me: and they whom I loved <0157> are turned <02015>

against me.

20 My bone <06106> cleaveth <01692> to my skin <05785> and to

my flesh <01320>, and I am escaped <04422> with the skin <05785>

of my teeth <08127>.

21 Have pity <02603> upon me, have pity <02603> upon me, O ye

my friends <07453>; for the hand <03027> of God <0433> hath

touched <05060> me.

22 Why <04100> do ye persecute <07291> me as God <0410>, and

are not satisfied <07646> with my flesh <01320>?

 23. Oh that my words <04405> were now <0645> written <03789>!

oh that they were printed <02710> in a book <05612>!

24 That they were graven <02672> with an iron <01270> pen

<05842> and lead <05777> in the rock <06697> for ever <05703>!

 25 For I know <03045> [that] my redeemer <01350> liveth <02416>,

and [that] he shall stand <06965> at the latter <0314> [day]

upon the earth <06083>:

26 And [though] after <0310> my skin <05785> [worms] destroy

<05362> this <02063> [body], yet in my flesh <01320> shall I see

<02372> God <0433>:

27 Whom <0834> I shall see <02372> for myself, and mine eyes

<05869> shall behold <07200>, and not another <02114>; [though]

my reins <03629> be consumed <03615> within <02436> me.

28 But ye should say <0559>, Why <04100> persecute <07291> we

him, seeing the root <08328> of the matter <01697> is found

<04672> in me?

29 Be ye afraid <01481> of the sword <02719>: for wrath <02534>

[bringeth] the punishments <05771> of the sword <02719>, that ye

may know <03045> [there is] a judgment <01779>.

Job 20

 1. Then answered <06030> Zophar <06691> the Naamathite <05284>,

and said <0559>,

2 Therefore <03651> do my thoughts <05587> cause me to answer

<07725>, and for [this] I make haste <02363>.

 3 I have heard <08085> the check <04148> of my reproach <03639>,

and the spirit <07307> of my understanding <0998> causeth me to

answer <06030>.

4 Knowest <03045> thou [not] this <02063> of old <05703>, since

<04480> man <0120> was placed <07760> upon earth <0776>,

5 That the triumphing <07445> of the wicked <07563> [is] short

<07138>, and the joy <08057> of the hypocrite <02611> [but] for

a moment <07281>?

6 Though his excellency <07863> mount <05927> up to the heavens

<08064>, and his head <07218> reach <05060> unto the clouds

<05645>;

7 [Yet] he shall perish <06> for ever <05331> like his own dung

<01561>: they which have seen <07200> him shall say <0559>,

Where <0335> [is] he?

8 He shall fly <05774> away as a dream <02472>, and shall not

be found <04672>: yea, he shall be chased <05074> away as a

vision <02384> of the night <03915>.

9 The eye <05869> also [which] saw <07805> him shall [see him]

no <03808> more <03254>; neither <03808> shall his place <04725>

any more <05750> behold <07789> him.

 10. His children <01121> shall seek to please <07521> the poor

<01800>, and his hands <03027> shall restore <07725> their goods

<0202>.

11 His bones <06106> are full <04390> [of the sin] of his youth

<05934>, which shall lie <07901> down <07904> with him in the

dust <06083>.

12 Though <0518> wickedness <07451> be sweet <04985> in his

mouth <06310>, [though] he hide <03582> it under <08478> his

tongue <03956>;

 13 [Though] he spare <02550> it, and forsake <05800> it not;

but keep <04513> it still within <08432> his mouth <02441>:

14 [Yet] his meat <03899> in his bowels <04578> is turned

<02015>, [it is] the gall <04846> of asps <06620> within <07030>

him.

15 He hath swallowed <01104> down riches <02428>, and he shall

vomit <06958> them up again: God <0410> shall cast <03423> them

out of his belly <0990>.

16 He shall suck <03243> the poison <07219> of asps <06620>:

the viper's <0660> tongue <03956> shall slay <02026> him.

17 He shall not see <07200> the rivers <06390>, the floods

<05104>, the brooks <05158> of honey <01706> and butter <02529>.

18 That which he laboured <03022> for shall he restore <07725>,

and shall not swallow <01104> [it] down: according to [his]

substance <02428> [shall] the restitution <08545> [be], and he

shall not rejoice <05965> [therein].

19 Because <03588> he hath oppressed <07533> [and] hath

forsaken <05800> the poor <01800>; [because] he hath violently

<01497> taken <01497> away <01497> an house <01004> which he

builded <01129> not;

20 Surely <03588> he shall not feel <03045> quietness <07961>

in his belly <0990>, he shall not save <04422> of that which he

desired <02530>.

 21 There shall none <0369> of his meat <0400> be left <08300>;

therefore shall no <03808> man look <02342> for his goods

<02898>.

22 In the fulness <04390> of his sufficiency <05607> he shall

be in straits <03334>: every <03605> hand <03027> of the wicked

<06001> shall come <0935> upon him.

 23. [When] he is about to fill <04390> his belly <0990>, [God]

shall cast <07971> the fury <02740> of his wrath <0639> upon him,

and shall rain <04305> [it] upon him while he is eating <03894>.

24 He shall flee <01272> from the iron <01270> weapon <05402>,

[and] the bow <07198> of steel <05154> shall strike <02498> him

through.

25 It is drawn <08025>, and cometh <03318> out of the body

<01465>; yea, the glittering <01300> sword <01300> cometh

<01980> out of his gall <04846>: terrors <0367> [are] upon him.

26 All <03605> darkness <02822> [shall be] hid <02244> in his

secret <06845> places: a fire <0784> not blown <05301> shall

consume <0398> him; it shall go ill <03415> with him that is

left <08300> in his tabernacle <0168>.

 27 The heaven <08064> shall reveal <01540> his iniquity <05771>;

and the earth <0776> shall rise <06965> up against him.

28 The increase <02981> of his house <01004> shall depart

<01540>, [and his goods] shall flow <05064> away in the day

<03117> of his wrath <0639>.

 29 This <02088> [is] the portion <02506> of a wicked <07563>

man <0120> from God <0430>, and the heritage <05159> appointed

<0561> unto him by God <0410>.

Job 21

 1. But Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

2 Hear <08085> diligently my speech <04405>, and let this

<02063> be your consolations <08575>.

 3 Suffer <05375> me that I may speak <01696>; and after <0310>

that I have spoken <01696>, mock <03932> on.

4 As for me, [is] my complaint <07878> to man <0120>? and if

<0518> [it were so], why <04069> should not my spirit <07307> be

troubled <07114>?

5 Mark <06437> me, and be astonished <08074>, and lay <07760>

[your] hand <03027> upon [your] mouth <06310>.

 6 Even when <0518> I remember <02142> I am afraid <0926>, and

trembling <06427> taketh <0270> hold <0270> on my flesh <01320>.

 7. Wherefore <04069> do the wicked <07563> live <02421>, become

<06275> old <06275>, yea <01571>, are mighty <01396> in power

<02428>?

8 Their seed <02233> is established <03559> in their sight

<06440> with them, and their offspring <06631> before their eyes

<05869>.

9 Their houses <01004> [are] safe <07965> from fear <06343>,

neither <03808> [is] the rod <07626> of God <0433> upon them.

 10 Their bull <07794> gendereth <05674>, and faileth <01602>

not; their cow <06510> calveth <06403>, and casteth <07921> not

her calf.

11 They send <07971> forth their little <05759> ones like a

flock <06629>, and their children <03206> dance <07540>.

12 They take <05375> the timbrel <08596> and harp <03658>, and

rejoice <08055> at the sound <06963> of the organ <05748>.

13 They spend <03615> their days <03117> in wealth <02896>, and

in a moment <07281> go <05181> down <05181> to the grave <07585>.

14 Therefore they say <0559> unto God <0410>, Depart <05493>

from us; for we desire <02654> not the knowledge <01847> of thy

ways <01870>.

15 What <04100> [is] the Almighty <07706>, that we should serve

<05647> him? and what <04100> profit <03276> should we have, if

we pray <06293> unto him?

16 Lo <02005>, their good <02898> [is] not in their hand

<03027>: the counsel <06098> of the wicked <07563> is far

<07350> from me.

 17. How <04100> oft is the candle <05216> of the wicked <07563>

put <01846> out! and [how oft] cometh <0935> their destruction

<0343> upon them! [God] distributeth <02505> sorrows <02256> in

his anger <0639>.

18 They are as stubble <08401> before <06440> the wind <07307>,

and as chaff <04671> that the storm <05492> carrieth <01589>

away <01589>.

19 God <0433> layeth <06845> up his iniquity <0205> for his

children <01121>: he rewardeth <07999> him, and he shall know

<03045> [it].

20 His eyes <05869> shall see <07200> his destruction <03589>,

and he shall drink <08354> of the wrath <02534> of the Almighty

<07706>.

21 For what <04100> pleasure <02656> [hath] he in his house

<01004> after <0310> him, when the number <04557> of his months

<02320> is cut <02686> off in the midst <02686>?

 22 Shall [any] teach <03925> God <0410> knowledge <01847>?

seeing he judgeth <08199> those that are high <07311>.

23 One dieth <04191> in his full <08537> strength <06106>,

being wholly <03605> at ease <07946> and quiet <07961>.

24 His breasts <05845> are full <04390> of milk <02461>, and

his bones <06106> are moistened <08248> with marrow <04221>.

25 And another <02088> dieth <04191> in the bitterness <04751>

of his soul <05315>, and never <03808> eateth <0398> with

pleasure <02896>.

26 They shall lie <07901> down <07904> alike <03162> in the

dust <06083>, and the worms <07415> shall cover <03680> them.

 27. Behold <02005>, I know <03045> your thoughts <04284>, and

the devices <04209> [which] ye wrongfully <02554> imagine

<02554> against <05921> me.

28 For ye say <0559>, Where <0346> [is] the house <01004> of

the prince <05081>? and where <0346> [are] the dwelling <04908>

places <0168> of the wicked <07563>?

29 Have ye not asked <07592> them that go <05674> by the way

<01870>? and do ye not know <05234> their tokens <0226>,

30 That the wicked <07451> is reserved <02820> to the day

<03117> of destruction <0343>? they shall be brought <02986>

forth to the day <03117> of wrath <05678>.

31 Who <04310> shall declare <05046> his way <01870> to his

face <06440>? and who <04310> shall repay <07999> him [what] he

hath done <06213>?

32 Yet shall he be brought <02986> to the grave <06913>, and

shall remain <08245> in the tomb <01430>.

33 The clods <07263> of the valley <05158> shall be sweet

<04985> unto him, and every <03605> man <0120> shall draw

<04900> after <0310> him, as [there are] innumerable before

<06440> him.

34 How <0349> then comfort <05162> ye me in vain <01892>,

seeing in your answers <08666> there remaineth <07604> falsehood

<04604>?

Job 22

 1. Then Eliphaz <0464> the Temanite <08489> answered <06030>

and said <0559>,

 2 Can a man <01397> be profitable <05532> unto God <0410>, as

he that is wise <07919> may be profitable <05532> unto himself?

3 [Is it] any pleasure <02656> to the Almighty <07706>, that

thou art righteous <06663>? or [is it] gain <01214> [to him],

that thou makest thy ways <01870> perfect <08552>?

4 Will he reprove <03198> thee for fear <03374> of thee? will

he enter <0935> with thee into judgment <04941>?

 5. [Is] not thy wickedness <07451> great <07227>? and thine

iniquities <05771> infinite?

6 For thou hast taken <02254> a pledge <02254> from thy brother

<0251> for nought <02600>, and stripped <06584> the naked

<06174> of their clothing <0899>.

7 Thou hast not given water <04325> to the weary <05889> to

drink <08248>, and thou hast withholden <04513> bread <03899>

from the hungry <07456>.

8 But [as for] the mighty <02220> man <0376>, he had the earth

<0776>; and the honourable man dwelt <03427> in it.

9 Thou hast sent <07971> widows <0490> away empty <07387>, and

the arms <02220> of the fatherless <03490> have been broken

<01792>.

10 Therefore snares <06341> [are] round <05439> about thee, and

sudden <06597> fear <06343> troubleth <0926> thee;

11 Or <0176> darkness <02822>, [that] thou canst not see

<07200>; and abundance <08229> of waters <04325> cover <03680>

thee.

12 [Is] not God <0433> in the height <01363> of heaven <08064>?

and behold <07200> the height <07218> of the stars <03556>, how

<03588> high <07311> they are!

13 And thou sayest <0559>, How <04100> doth God <0410> know

<03045>? can he judge <08199> through the dark <06205> cloud

<06205>?

14 Thick clouds <05645> [are] a covering <05643> to him, that

he seeth <07200> not; and he walketh <01980> in the circuit

<02329> of heaven <08064>.

 15. Hast thou marked <08104> the old <05769> way <0734> which

<0834> wicked <0205> men <04962> have trodden <01869>?

16 Which <0834> were cut <07059> down out of time <06256>,

whose foundation <03247> was overflown <03332> with a flood

<05104>:

17 Which said <0559> unto God <0410>, Depart <05493> from us:

and what <04100> can the Almighty <07706> do <06466> for them?

18 Yet he filled <04390> their houses <01004> with good <02896>

[things]: but the counsel <06098> of the wicked <07563> is far

<07350> from me.

19 The righteous <06662> see <07200> [it], and are glad <08056>:

and the innocent <05355> laugh <03932> them to scorn.

20 Whereas <0518> our substance <07009> is not cut <03582> down,

but the remnant <03499> of them the fire <0784> consumeth

<0398>.

 21. Acquaint <05532> now <04994> thyself with him, and be at

peace <07999>: thereby good <02896> shall come <0935> unto thee.

 22 Receive <03947>, I pray <04994> thee, the law <08451> from

his mouth <06310>, and lay <07760> up his words <0561> in thine

heart <03824>.

23 If <0518> thou return <07725> to the Almighty <07706>, thou

shalt be built <01129> up, thou shalt put away <07368> iniquity

<05766> far <07350> from thy tabernacles <0168>.

24 Then shalt thou lay <07896> up gold <01220> as dust <06083>,

and the [gold <01220>] of Ophir <0211> as the stones <06697> of

the brooks <05158>.

25 Yea, the Almighty <07706> shall be thy defence <01220>, and

thou shalt have plenty <08443> of silver <03701>.

26 For then <0227> shalt thou have thy delight <06026> in the

Almighty <07706>, and shalt lift <05375> up thy face <06440>

unto God <0433>.

27 Thou shalt make thy prayer <06279> unto him, and he shall

hear <08085> thee, and thou shalt pay <07999> thy vows <05088>.

28 Thou shalt also decree <01504> a thing <0562>, and it shall

be established <06965> unto thee: and the light <0216> shall

shine <05050> upon thy ways <01870>.

29 When <03588> [men] are cast <08213> down <08213>, then thou

shalt say <0559>, [There is] lifting <01466> up; and he shall

save <03467> the humble person.

30 He shall deliver <04422> the island <0336> of the innocent

<05355>: and it is delivered <04422> by the pureness <01252> of

thine hands <03709>.

Job 23

 1. Then Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

2 Even <01571> to day <03117> [is] my complaint <07878> bitter

<04805>: my stroke <03027> is heavier <03513> than <05921> my

groaning <0585>.

3 Oh that I knew <03045> where I might find <04672> him! [that]

I might come <0935> [even] to his seat <08499>!

 4 I would order <06186> [my] cause <04941> before <06440> him,

and fill <04390> my mouth <06310> with arguments <08433>.

5 I would know <03045> the words <04405> [which] he would

answer <06030> me, and understand <0995> what <04100> he would

say <0559> unto me.

6 Will he plead <07378> against <05978> me with [his] great

<07227> power <03581>? No <03808>; but he would put <07760>

[strength] in me.

 7 There <08033> the righteous <03477> might dispute <03198>

with him; so should I be delivered <06403> for ever <05331> from

my judge <08199>.

 8. Behold <02005>, I go <01980> forward <06924>, but he [is]

not [there <08033>]; and backward <0268>, but I cannot <03808>

perceive <03045> him:

9 On the left <08040> hand <08040>, where he doth work <06213>,

but I cannot <03808> behold <02372> [him]: he hideth <05848>

himself on the right <03225> hand <03225>, that I cannot <03808>

see <07200> [him]:

 10 But he knoweth <03045> the way <01870> that I take <05978>:

[when] he hath tried <0974> me, I shall come <03318> forth

<03318> as gold <02091>.

11 My foot <07272> hath held <0270> his steps <0838>, his way

<01870> have I kept <08104>, and not declined <05186>.

 12 Neither <03808> have I gone <04185> back <04185> from the

commandment <04687> of his lips <08193>; I have esteemed <06845>

the words <0561> of his mouth <06310> more than my necessary

<02706> [food].

 13. But he [is] in one <0259> [mind], and who <04310> can turn

<07725> him? and [what] his soul <05315> desireth <0183>, even

[that] he doeth <06213>.

14 For he performeth <07999> [the thing that is] appointed

<02706> for me: and many <07227> such <02007> [things are] with

him.

15 Therefore am I troubled <0926> at his presence <06440>: when

I consider <0995>, I am afraid <06342> of him.

16 For God <0410> maketh my heart <03820> soft <07401>, and the

Almighty <07706> troubleth <0926> me:

 17 Because <03588> I was not cut <06780> off before <06440> the

darkness <02822>, [neither] hath he covered <03680> the darkness

<0652> from my face <06440>.

Job 24

 1. Why <04069>, seeing <07200> times <06256> are not hidden

<06845> from the Almighty <07706>, do they that know <05234> him

not see <02372> his days <03117>?

2 [Some] remove <05472> the landmarks <01367>; they violently

<01497> take <01497> away flocks <05739>, and feed <07462>

[thereof].

3 They drive <05090> away the ass <02543> of the fatherless

<03490>, they take <02254> the widow's <0490> ox <07794> for a

pledge <02254>.

4 They turn <05186> the needy <034> out of the way <01870>: the

poor <06035> of the earth <0776> hide <02244> themselves

together <03162>.

5 Behold <02005>, [as] wild <06501> asses <06501> in the desert

<04057>, go <03318> they forth <03318> to their work <06467>;

rising <07836> betimes <07836> for a prey <02964>: the

wilderness <06160> [yieldeth] food <03899> for them [and] for

[their] children <05288>.

6 They reap <07114> [every one] his corn <01098> in the field

<07704>: and they gather <03953> the vintage <03754> of the

wicked <07563>.

7 They cause the naked <06174> to lodge <03885> without <01097>

clothing <03830>, that [they have] no <0369> covering <03682> in

the cold <07135>.

8 They are wet <07372> with the showers <02230> of the

mountains <02022>, and embrace <02263> the rock <06697> for want

<01097> of a shelter <04268>.

9 They pluck <01497> the fatherless <03490> from the breast

<07699>, and take <02254> a pledge <02254> of the poor <06041>.

10 They cause [him] to go <01980> naked <06174> without <01097>

clothing <03830>, and they take <05375> away the sheaf <06016>

[from] the hungry <07456>;

11 [Which] make oil <06671> within <0996> their walls <07791>,

[and] tread <01869> [their] winepresses <03342>, and suffer

thirst <06770>.

12 Men <04962> groan <05008> from out of the city <05892>, and

the soul <05315> of the wounded <02491> crieth <07768> out: yet

God <0433> layeth <07760> not folly <08604> [to them].

 13. They are of those that rebel <04775> against the light

<0216>; they know <05234> not the ways <01870> thereof, nor

<03808> abide <03427> in the paths <05410> thereof.

14 The murderer <07523> rising <07925> with the light <0216>

killeth <06991> the poor <06041> and needy <034>, and in the

night <03915> is as a thief <01590>.

15 The eye <05869> also of the adulterer <05003> waiteth

<08104> for the twilight <05399>, saying <0559>, No <03808> eye

<05869> shall see <07789> me: and disguiseth <05643> [his] face

<06440>.

16 In the dark <02822> they dig <02864> through <02864> houses

<01004>, [which] they had marked <02856> for themselves in the

daytime <03119>: they know <03045> not the light <0216>.

17 For the morning <01242> [is] to them even as the shadow

<06757> of death <06757>: if <03588> [one] know <05234> [them,

they are in] the terrors <01091> of the shadow <06757> of death

<06757>.

 18. He [is] swift <07031> as the waters <04325>; their portion

<02513> is cursed <07043> in the earth <0776>: he beholdeth

<06437> not the way <01870> of the vineyards <03754>.

19 Drought <06723> and heat <02527> consume <01497> the snow

<07950> waters <04325>: [so doth] the grave <07585> [those

which] have sinned <02398>.

20 The womb <07358> shall forget <07911> him; the worm <07415>

shall feed sweetly <04988> on him; he shall be no <03808> more

<05750> remembered <02142>; and wickedness <05766> shall be

broken <07665> as a tree <06086>.

21 He evil <07462> entreateth the barren <06135> [that] beareth

<03205> not: and doeth not good <03190> to the widow <0490>.

22 He draweth <04900> also the mighty <047> with his power

<03581>: he riseth <06965> up, and no <03808> [man] is sure

<0539> of life <02416>.

23 [Though] it be given <05414> him [to be] in safety <0983>,

whereon he resteth <08172>; yet his eyes <05869> [are] upon

their ways <01870>.

24 They are exalted <07426> for a little <04592> while, but are

gone <0369> and brought <04355> low <04355>; they are taken

<07092> out of the way <01870> as all <03605> [other], and cut

<05243> off as the tops <07218> of the ears <07641> of corn.

25 And if <0518> [it be] not [so] now <0645>, who <04310> will

make <07760> me a liar <03576>, and make <07760> my speech

<04405> nothing <0408> worth?

Job 25

 1. Then answered <06030> Bildad <01085> the Shuhite <07747>,

and said <0559>,

2 Dominion <04910> and fear <06343> [are] with him, he maketh

<06213> peace <07965> in his high <04791> places.

3 Is there any number <04557> of his armies <01416>? and upon

whom <04310> doth not his light <0216> arise <06965>?

4 How <04100> then can man <0582> be justified <06663> with God

<0410>? or how <04100> can he be clean <02135> [that is] born

<03205> of a woman <0802>?

5 Behold <02005> even to the moon <03394>, and it shineth

<0166> not; yea, the stars <03556> are not pure <02141> in his

sight <05869>.

 6 How <0637> much <0637> less man <0582>, [that is] a worm

<07415>? and the son <01121> of man <0120>, [which is] a worm

<08438>?

Job 26

 1. But Job <0347> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

2 How <04100> hast thou helped <05826> [him that is] without

<03808> power <03581>? [how] savest <03467> thou the arm <02220>

[that hath] no <03808> strength <02797>?

3 How <04100> hast thou counselled <03289> [him that hath] no

<03808> wisdom <02451>? and [how] hast thou plentifully <07230>

declared <03045> the thing as it is?

4 To whom <04310> hast thou uttered <05046> words <04405>? and

whose <04310> spirit <05397> came <03318> from thee?

 5. Dead <07496> [things] are formed <02342> from under <08478>

the waters <04325>, and the inhabitants <07934> thereof.

6 Hell <07585> [is] naked <06174> before <06440> him, and

destruction <011> hath no <0369> covering <03682>.

7 He stretcheth <05186> out the north <06828> over <05921> the

empty <08414> place <08414>, [and] hangeth <08518> the earth

<0776> upon nothing <01099>.

8 He bindeth <06887> up the waters <04325> in his thick clouds

<05645>; and the cloud <06051> is not rent <01234> under <05921>

them.

9 He holdeth <0270> back the face <06440> of his throne <03678>,

[and] spreadeth <06576> his cloud <06051> upon it.

10 He hath compassed <02328> the waters <04325> with bounds

<02706>, until <05704> the day <0216> and night <02822> come to

an end <08503>.

11 The pillars <05982> of heaven <08064> tremble <07322> and

are astonished <08539> at his reproof <01606>.

12 He divideth <07280> the sea <03220> with his power <03581>,

and by his understanding <08394> he smiteth <04272> through the

proud <07293>.

13 By his spirit <07307> he hath garnished <08235> the heavens

<08064>; his hand <03027> hath formed <02342> the crooked

<01281> serpent <05175>.

14 Lo <02005>, these <0428> [are] parts <07098> of his ways

<01870>: but how <04100> little <08102> a portion <01697> is

heard <08085> of him? but the thunder <07482> of his power

<01369> who <04310> can understand <0995>?

Job 27

 1. Moreover Job <0347> continued <03254> his parable <04912>,

and said <0559>,

2 [As] God <0410> liveth <02416>, [who] hath taken <05493> away

<05493> my judgment <04941>; and the Almighty <07706>, [who]

hath vexed <04843> my soul <05315>;

3 All <03605> the while <05750> my breath <05397> [is] in me,

and the spirit <07307> of God <0433> [is] in my nostrils <0639>;

4 My lips <08193> shall not speak <01696> wickedness <05766>,

nor <0518> my tongue <03956> utter <01897> deceit <07423>.

5 God forbid <02486> that I should justify <06663> you: till

<05704> I die <01478> I will not remove <05493> mine integrity

<08538> from me.

6 My righteousness <06666> I hold <02388> fast, and will not

let it go <07503>: my heart <03824> shall not reproach <02778>

[me] so <03605> long <03117> as I live <03117>.

 7. Let mine enemy <0341> be as the wicked <07563>, and he that

riseth <06965> up against me as the unrighteous <05767>.

8 For what <04100> [is] the hope <08615> of the hypocrite

<02611>, though <03588> he hath gained <01214>, when <03588> God

<0433> taketh <07953> away <07953> his soul <05315>?

 9 Will God <0401> hear <08085> his cry <06818> when <03588>

trouble <06869> cometh <0935> upon him?

10 Will he delight <06026> himself in the Almighty <07706>?

will he always call <07121> upon God <0433>?

 11. I will teach <03384> you by the hand <03027> of God <0410>:

[that] which <0834> [is] with the Almighty <07706> will I not

conceal <03582>.

12 Behold <02005>, all <03605> ye yourselves have seen <02372>

[it]; why <04100> then are ye thus <02088> altogether vain

<01891>?

 13 This <02088> [is] the portion <02506> of a wicked <07563>

man <0120> with God <0410>, and the heritage <05159> of

oppressors <06184>, [which] they shall receive <03947> of the

Almighty <07706>.

14 If <0518> his children <01121> be multiplied <07235>, [it

is] for the sword <02719>: and his offspring <06631> shall not

be satisfied <07646> with bread <03899>.

15 Those that remain <08300> of him shall be buried <06912> in

death <04194>: and his widows <0490> shall not weep <01058>.

16 Though <0518> he heap <06651> up silver <03701> as the dust

<06083>, and prepare <03559> raiment <04403> as the clay <02563>;

17 He may prepare <03559> [it], but the just <06662> shall put

<03847> [it] on, and the innocent <05355> shall divide <02505>

the silver <03701>.

 18 He buildeth <01129> his house <01004> as a moth <06211>, and

as a booth <05521> [that] the keeper <05341> maketh <06213>.

19 The rich <06223> man shall lie <07901> down <07901>, but he

shall not be gathered <0622>: he openeth <06491> his eyes

<05869>, and he [is] not.

20 Terrors <01091> take <05381> hold <05381> on him as waters

<04325>, a tempest <05492> stealeth <01589> him away in the

night <03915>.

21 The east <06921> wind carrieth <05375> him away, and he

departeth <03212>: and as a storm hurleth <08175> him out of his

place <04725>.

22 For [God] shall cast <07993> upon him, and not spare <02550>:

he would fain <01272> flee <01272> out of his hand <03027>.

23 [Men] shall clap <05606> their hands <03709> at <05921> him,

and shall hiss <08319> him out of his place <04725>.

Job 28

 1. Surely <03588> there is a vein <04161> for the silver

<03701>, and a place <04725> for gold <02091> [where] they fine

<02212> [it].

2 Iron <01270> is taken <03947> out of the earth <06083>, and

brass <05154> [is] molten <06694> [out of] the stone <068>.

3 He setteth <07760> an end <07093> to darkness <02822>, and

searcheth <02713> out all <03605> perfection <08503>: the stones

<068> of darkness <0652>, and the shadow <06757> of death

<06757>.

4 The flood <05158> breaketh <06555> out from the inhabitant

<01481>; [even the waters] forgotten <07911> of the foot <07272>:

they are dried <01809> up, they are gone <05128> away from men

<0582>.

5 [As for] the earth <0776>, out of it cometh <03318> bread

<03899>: and under <08478> it is turned <02015> up as it were

fire <0784>.

6 The stones <068> of it [are] the place <04725> of sapphires

<05601>: and it hath dust <06083> of gold <02091>.

 7 [There is] a path <05410> which no <03808> fowl <05861>

knoweth <03045>, and which the vulture's <0344> eye <05869> hath

not seen <07805>:

 8 The lion's <07830> whelps <01121> have not trodden <01869> it,

nor <03808> the fierce <07826> lion <07826> passed <05710> by

it.

9 He putteth <07971> forth <07971> his hand <03027> upon the

rock <02496>; he overturneth <02015> the mountains <02022> by

the roots <08328>.

10 He cutteth <01234> out rivers <02975> among the rocks

<06697>; and his eye <05869> seeth <07200> every <03605>

precious <03366> thing.

11 He bindeth <02280> the floods <05104> from overflowing

<01065>; and [the thing that is] hid <08587> bringeth <03318> he

forth <03318> to light <0216>.

12 But where <0370> shall wisdom <02451> be found <04672>? and

where [is] the place <04725> of understanding <0998>?

 13 Man <0582> knoweth <03045> not the price <06187> thereof;

neither <03808> is it found <04672> in the land <0776> of the

living <02416>.

 14. The depth <08415> saith <0559>, It [is] not in me: and the

sea <03220> saith <0559>, [It is] not with me.

15 It cannot <03808> be gotten <05414> for gold <05458>,

neither <03808> shall silver <03701> be weighed <08254> [for]

the price <04242> thereof.

16 It cannot <03808> be valued <05541> with the gold <03800> of

Ophir <0211>, with the precious <03368> onyx <07718>, or the

sapphire <05601>.

17 The gold <02091> and the crystal <02137> cannot <03808>

equal <06186> it: and the exchange <08545> of it [shall not be

for] jewels <03627> of fine gold <06337>.

18 No <03808> mention <02142> shall be made of coral <07215>,

or of pearls <01378>: for the price <04901> of wisdom <02451>

[is] above rubies <06443>.

19 The topaz <06357> of Ethiopia <03568> shall not equal

<06186> it, neither <03808> shall it be valued <05541> with pure

<02889> gold <03800>.

 20. Whence <0370> then cometh <0935> wisdom <02451>? and where

<0335> [is] the place <04725> of understanding <0998>?

21 Seeing it is hid <05956> from the eyes <05869> of all

<03605> living <02416>, and kept <05641> close <05641> from the

fowls <05775> of the air <08064>.

22 Destruction <011> and death <04194> say <0559>, We have

heard <08085> the fame <08088> thereof with our ears <0241>.

23 God <0430> understandeth <0995> the way <01870> thereof, and

he knoweth <03045> the place <04725> thereof.

24 For he looketh <05027> to the ends <07098> of the earth

<0776>, [and] seeth <07200> under <08478> the whole <03605>

heaven <08064>;

 25 To make <06213> the weight <04948> for the winds <07307>;

and he weigheth <08505> the waters <04325> by measure <04060>.

 26 When he made <06213> a decree <02706> for the rain <04306>,

and a way <01870> for the lightning <02385> of the thunder

<06963>:

 27 Then <0227> did he see <07200> it, and declare <05608> it;

he prepared <03559> it, yea <01571>, and searched <02713> it out.

28 And unto man <0120> he said <0559>, Behold <02005>, the fear

<03374> of the Lord <0136>, that [is] wisdom <02451>; and to

depart <05493> from evil <07451> [is] understanding <0998>.

Job 29

 1. Moreover Job <0347> continued <03254> his parable <04912>,

and said <0559>,

2 Oh that I were as [in] months <03391> past <06924>, as [in]

the days <03117> [when] God <0433> preserved <08104> me;

3 When his candle <05216> shined <01984> upon my head <07218>,

[and when] by his light <0216> I walked <03212> [through]

darkness <02822>;

4 As I was in the days <03117> of my youth <02779>, when the

secret <05475> of God <0433> [was] upon my tabernacle <0168>;

5 When <05750> the Almighty <07706> [was] yet <05750> with me,

[when] my children <05288> [were] about <05439> me;

 6 When I washed <07364> my steps <01978> with butter <02529>,

and the rock <06697> poured <06694> me out rivers <06388> of oil

<08081>;

 7. When I went <03318> out to the gate <08179> through <05921>

the city <07176>, [when] I prepared <03559> my seat <04186> in

the street <07339>!

8 The young <05288> men saw <07200> me, and hid <02244>

themselves: and the aged <02205> arose <06965>, [and] stood

<05975> up.

 9 The princes <08269> refrained <06113> talking <04405>, and

laid <07760> [their] hand <03709> on their mouth <06310>.

10 The nobles <05057> held <02244> their peace <06963>, and

their tongue <03956> cleaved <01692> to the roof <02441> of

their mouth <02441>.

11 When <03588> the ear <0241> heard <08085> [me], then it

blessed <0833> me; and when the eye <05869> saw <07200> [me], it

gave witness <05749> to me:

 12 Because <03588> I delivered <04422> the poor <06041> that

cried <07768>, and the fatherless <03490>, and [him that had]

none <03808> to help <05826> him.

13 The blessing <01293> of him that was ready to perish <06>

came <0935> upon me: and I caused the widow's <0490> heart

<03820> to sing <07442> for joy <07442>.

14 I put <03847> on righteousness <06664>, and it clothed

<03847> me: my judgment <04941> [was] as a robe <04598> and a

diadem <06797>.

 15 I was eyes <05869> to the blind <05787>, and feet <07272>

[was] I to the lame <06455>.

16 I [was] a father <01> to the poor <034>: and the cause

<07379> [which] I knew <03045> not I searched <02713> out.

 17 And I brake <07665> the jaws <04973> of the wicked <05767>,

and plucked <07993> the spoil <02964> out of his teeth <08127>.

 18. Then I said <0559>, I shall die <01478> in my nest <07064>,

and I shall multiply <07235> [my] days <03117> as the sand

<02344>.

19 My root <08328> [was] spread <06605> out by the waters

<04325>, and the dew <02919> lay <03885> all <03885> night upon

my branch <07105>.

20 My glory <03519> [was] fresh <02319> in me, and my bow

<07198> was renewed <02498> in my hand <03027>.

21 Unto me [men] gave ear <08085>, and waited <03176>, and kept

silence <01826> at <03926> my counsel <06098>.

 22 After <0310> my words <01697> they spake not again <03138>;

and my speech <04405> dropped <05197> upon them.

23 And they waited <03176> for me as for the rain <04306>; and

they opened <06473> their mouth <06310> wide [as] for the latter

<04456> rain <04456>.

 24 [If] I laughed <07832> on <0413> them, they believed <0539>

[it] not; and the light <0216> of my countenance <06440> they

cast <05307> not down <05307>.

 25 I chose <0977> out their way <01870>, and sat <03427> chief

<07218>, and dwelt <07931> as a king <04428> in the army <01416>,

as one [that] comforteth <05162> the mourners <057>.

Job 30

 1. But now <06258> [they that are] younger than I have me in

derision <07832>, whose <0834> fathers <01> I would have

disdained <03988> to have set <07896> with the dogs <03611> of

my flock <06629>.

2 Yea <01571>, whereto <04100> [might] the strength <03581> of

their hands <03027> [profit] me, in whom <05921> old age <03624>

was perished <06>?

3 For want <02639> and famine <03720> [they were] solitary

<01565>; fleeing <06207> into the wilderness <06723> in former

<0570> time <0570> desolate <07722> and waste <04875>.

4 Who cut <06998> up mallows <04408> by the bushes <07880>, and

juniper <07574> roots <08328> [for] their meat <03899>.

5 They were driven <01644> forth from among <01460> [men],

(they cried <07321> after <05921> them as [after <05921>] a

thief <01590>;)

6 To dwell <07931> in the clifts <06178> of the valleys <05158>,

[in] caves <02356> of the earth <06083>, and [in] the rocks

<03710>.

7 Among <0996> the bushes <07880> they brayed <05101>; under

<08478> the nettles <02738> they were gathered <05596> together.

8 [They were] children <01121> of fools <05036>, yea <01571>,

children <01121> of base men: they were viler <05217> than

<04480> the earth <0776>.

9 And now <06258> am I their song <05058>, yea, I am their

byword <04405>.

10 They abhor <08581> me, they flee <07368> far <07350> from me,

and spare <02820> not to spit <07536> in my face <06440>.

11 Because <03588> he hath loosed <06605> my cord <03499>, and

afflicted <06031> me, they have also let loose <07971> the

bridle <07448> before <06440> me.

12 Upon [my] right <03225> [hand <03225>] rise <06965> the

youth <06526>; they push <07971> away my feet <07272>, and they

raise <05549> up against <05921> me the ways <0734> of their

destruction <0343>.

13 They mar <05420> my path <05410>, they set forward <03276>

my calamity <01942>, they have no <03808> helper <05826>.

14 They came <0857> [upon me] as a wide <07342> breaking

<06556> in [of waters]: in the desolation <07722> they rolled

<01556> themselves [upon me].

 15. Terrors <01091> are turned <02015> upon me: they pursue

<07291> my soul <05082> as the wind <07307>: and my welfare

<03444> passeth <05674> away as a cloud <05645>.

16 And now <06258> my soul <05315> is poured <08210> out upon

me; the days <03117> of affliction <06040> have taken <0270>

hold <0270> upon me.

17 My bones <06106> are pierced <05365> in me in the night

<03915> season: and my sinews <06207> take <07901> no <03808>

rest <07901>.

18 By the great <07227> force <03581> [of my disease] is my

garment <03830> changed <02664>: it bindeth <0247> me about

<0247> as the collar <06310> of my coat <03801>.

19 He hath cast <03384> me into the mire <02563>, and I am

become <04911> like <04911> dust <06083> and ashes <0665>.

20 I cry <07768> unto thee, and thou dost not hear <06030> me:

I stand <05975> up, and thou regardest <0995> me [not].

21 Thou art become <02015> cruel <0393> to me: with thy strong

<06108> hand <03027> thou opposest <07852> thyself against me.

22 Thou liftest <05375> me up to the wind <07307>; thou causest

me to ride <07392> [upon it], and dissolvest <04127> my

substance <07738>.

23 For I know <03045> [that] thou wilt bring <07725> me [to]

death <04194>, and [to] the house <01004> appointed <04150> for

all <03605> living <02416>.

24 Howbeit he will not stretch <07971> out [his] hand <03027>

to the grave <01164>, though <0518> they cry <07769> in his

destruction <06365>.

25 Did not I weep <01058> for him that was in trouble? was

[not] my soul <05315> grieved <05701> for the poor <034>?

 26 When <03588> I looked <06960> for good <02896>, then evil

<07451> came <0935> [unto me]: and when I waited <03176> for

light <0216>, there came <0935> darkness <0652>.

27 My bowels <04578> boiled <07570>, and rested <01826> not:

the days <03117> of affliction <06040> prevented <06923> me.

 28 I went <01980> mourning <06937> without <03808> the sun

<02535>: I stood <06965> up, [and] I cried <07768> in the

congregation <06951>.

 29 I am a brother <0251> to dragons <08577>, and a companion

<07453> to owls.

30 My skin <05785> is black <07835> upon me, and my bones

<06106> are burned <02787> with heat <02721>.

31 My harp <03658> also is [turned] to mourning <060>, and my

organ <05748> into the voice <06963> of them that weep <01058>.

Job 31

 1. I made <03772> a covenant <01285> with mine eyes <05869>;

why <04100> then should I think <0995> upon a maid <01330>?

2 For what <04100> portion <02506> of God <0433> [is there]

from above <04605>? and [what] inheritance <05159> of the

Almighty <07706> from on high <04791>?

3 [Is] not destruction <0343> to the wicked <05767>? and a

strange <05235> [punishment] to the workers <06466> of iniquity

<0205>?

4 Doth not he see <07200> my ways <01870>, and count <05608>

all <03605> my steps <06806>?

5 If <0518> I have walked <01980> with vanity <07723>, or if my

foot <07272> hath hasted <02363> to deceit <04820>;

6 Let me be weighed <08254> in an even <06664> balance <03976>,

that God <0433> may know <03045> mine integrity <08538>.

7 If <0518> my step <0838> hath turned <05186> out of the way

<01870>, and mine heart <03820> walked <01980> after <0310> mine

eyes <05869>, and if any blot <03971> hath cleaved <01692> to

mine hands <03709>;

 8 [Then] let me sow <02232>, and let another <0312> eat <0398>;

yea, let my offspring <06631> be rooted <08327> out.

 9. If <0518> mine heart <03820> have been deceived <06601> by a

woman <0802>, or [if] I have laid wait <0693> at <05921> my

neighbour's <07453> door <06607>;

10 [Then] let my wife <0802> grind <02912> unto another <0312>,

and let others <0312> bow <03766> down <03766> upon her.

11 For this <01931> [is] an heinous <02154> crime <02154>; yea,

it [is] an iniquity <05771> [to be punished by] the judges

<06414>.

12 For it [is] a fire <0784> [that] consumeth <0398> to

destruction <011>, and would root <08327> out all <03605> mine

increase <08393>.

 13 If <0518> I did despise <03988> the cause <04941> of my

manservant <05650> or of my maidservant <0519>, when they

contended <07378> with me;

 14 What <04100> then shall I do when <03588> God <0410> riseth

<06965> up? and when <03588> he visiteth <06485>, what <04100>

shall I answer <07725> him?

15 Did not he that made <06213> me in the womb <0990> make

<06213> him? and did not one <0259> fashion <03559> us in the

womb <07358>?

 16. If <0518> I have withheld <04513> the poor <01800> from

[their] desire <02656>, or have caused the eyes <05869> of the

widow <0490> to fail <03615>;

17 Or have eaten <0398> my morsel <06595> myself alone <0905>,

and the fatherless <03490> hath not eaten <0398> thereof;

18 (For from my youth <05271> he was brought <01431> up with me,

as [with] a father <01>, and I have guided <05148> her from my

mother's <0517> womb <0990>;)

 19 If <0518> I have seen <07200> any perish <06> for want

<01097> of clothing <03830>, or any poor <034> without <0369>

covering <03682>;

20 If <0518> his loins <02504> have not blessed <01288> me, and

[if] he were [not] warmed <02552> with the fleece <01488> of my

sheep <03532>;

 21 If <0518> I have lifted <05130> up my hand <03027> against

<05921> the fatherless <03490>, when <03588> I saw <07200> my

help <05833> in the gate <08179>:

22 [Then] let mine arm <03802> fall <05307> from my shoulder

<07929> blade <07929>, and mine arm <0248> be broken <07665>

from the bone <07070>.

23 For destruction <0343> [from] God <0410> [was] a terror

<06343> to me, and by reason of his highness <07613> I could

<03201> not endure.

 24. If <0518> I have made <07760> gold <02091> my hope <03689>,

or have said <0559> to the fine gold <03800>, [Thou art] my

confidence <04009>;

 25 If <0518> I rejoiced <08055> because <03588> my wealth

<02428> [was] great <07227>, and because <03588> mine hand

<03027> had gotten <04672> much <03524>;

 26 If <0518> I beheld <07200> the sun <0216> when <03588> it

shined <01984>, or the moon <03394> walking <01980> [in]

brightness <03368>;

27 And my heart <03820> hath been secretly <05643> enticed

<06601>, or my mouth <06310> hath kissed <05401> my hand <03027>:

28 This <01931> also <01571> [were] an iniquity <05771> [to be

punished by] the judge <06416>: for I should have denied <03584>

the God <0410> [that is] above <04605>.

 29 If <0518> I rejoiced <08055> at the destruction <06365> of

him that hated <08130> me, or lifted <05782> up myself when

<03588> evil <07451> found <04672> him:

 30 Neither <03808> have I suffered <05414> my mouth <02441> to

sin <02398> by wishing <07592> a curse <0423> to his soul

<05315>.

31 If <0518> the men <04962> of my tabernacle <0168> said

<0559> not, Oh that we had of his flesh <01320>! we cannot

<03808> be satisfied <07646>.

32 The stranger <01616> did not lodge <03885> in the street

<02351>: [but] I opened <06605> my doors <01817> to the

traveller <0734>.

 33. If <0518> I covered <03680> my transgressions <06588> as

Adam <0121>, by hiding <02934> mine iniquity <05771> in my bosom

<02436>:

 34 Did I fear <06206> a great <07227> multitude <01995>, or did

the contempt <0937> of families <04940> terrify <02865> me, that

I kept silence <01826>, [and] went <03318> not out of the door

<06607>?

35 Oh that one would hear <08085> me! behold <02005>, my desire

<08420> [is, that] the Almighty <07706> would answer <06030> me,

and [that] mine adversary had written <03789> a book <05612>.

36 Surely I would take <05375> it upon my shoulder <07926>,

[and] bind <06029> it [as] a crown <05850> to me.

37 I would declare <05046> unto him the number <04557> of my

steps <06806>; as a prince <05057> would I go <07126> near

<07126> unto him.

 38 If <0518> my land <0127> cry <02199> against <05921> me, or

that the furrows <08525> likewise <03162> thereof complain

<01058>;

 39 If <0518> I have eaten <0398> the fruits <03581> thereof

without <01097> money <03701>, or have caused the owners <01167>

thereof to lose <05307> their life <05315>:

40 Let thistles <02336> grow <03318> instead <08478> of wheat

<02406>, and cockle <0890> instead <08478> of barley <08184>.

The words <01697> of Job <0347> are ended <08552>.

Job 32

 1. So these <0428> three <07969> men <0582> ceased <07673> to

answer <06030> Job <0347>, because <03588> he [was] righteous

<06662> in his own eyes <05869>.

2 Then was kindled <02734> the wrath <0639> of Elihu <0453> the

son <01121> of Barachel <01292> the Buzite <0940>, of the

kindred <04940> of Ram <07410>: against Job <0347> was his wrath

<0639> kindled <02734>, because <05921> he justified <06663>

himself <05315> rather than <04480> God <0430>.

3 Also against his three <07969> friends <07453> was his wrath

<0639> kindled <02734>, because they had found <04672> no

<03808> answer <04617>, and [yet] had condemned <07561> Job

<0347>.

4 Now Elihu <0453> had waited <02442> till Job <0347> had

spoken <01697>, because <03588> they [were] elder than he.

5 When Elihu <0453> saw <07200> that [there was] no <0369>

answer <04617> in the mouth <06310> of [these] three <07969> men

<0582>, then his wrath <0639> was kindled <02734>.

 6. And Elihu <0453> the son <01121> of Barachel <01292> the

Buzite <0940> answered <06030> and said <0559>, I [am] young,

and ye [are] very <03453> old <03453>; wherefore I was afraid

<02119>, and durst <03372> not shew <02331> you mine opinion

<01843>.

 7 I said <0559>, Days <03117> should speak <01696>, and

multitude <07230> of years <08141> should teach <03045> wisdom

<02451>.

8 But [there is] a spirit <07307> in man <0582>: and the

inspiration <05397> of the Almighty <07706> giveth them

understanding <0995>.

9 Great <07227> men are not [always] wise <02449>: neither do

the aged <02205> understand <0995> judgment <04941>.

 10 Therefore <03651> I said <0559>, Hearken <08085> to me; I

also <0637> will shew <02331> mine opinion <01843>.

 11 Behold <02005>, I waited <03176> for your words <01697>; I

gave ear <0238> to your reasons <08394>, whilst <05704> ye

searched <02713> out what to say <04405>.

12 Yea, I attended <0995> unto you, and, behold <02009>, [there

was] none <0369> of you that convinced <03198> Job <0347>, [or]

that answered <06030> his words <0561>:

13 Lest <06435> ye should say <0559>, We have found <04672> out

wisdom <02451>: God <0410> thrusteth <05086> him down, not man

<0376>.

14 Now he hath not directed <06186> [his] words <04405> against

<0413> me: neither <03808> will I answer <07725> him with your

speeches <0561>.

 15. They were amazed <02865>, they answered <06030> no <03808>

more <05750>: they left <06275> off speaking <04405>.

16 When I had waited <03176>, (for they spake <01696> not, but

stood <05975> still <05975>, [and] answered <06030> no <03808>

more <05750>;)

 17 [I said], I will answer <06030> also <0637> my part <02506>,

I also <0637> will shew <02331> mine opinion <01843>.

 18 For I am full <04390> of matter <04405>, the spirit <07307>

within <0990> me constraineth <06693> me.

19 Behold <02009>, my belly <0990> [is] as wine <03196> [which]

hath no <03808> vent <06605>; it is ready to burst <01234> like

new <02319> bottles <0178>.

 20 I will speak <01696>, that I may be refreshed <07304>: I

will open <06605> my lips <08193> and answer <06030>.

 21 Let me not, I pray <04994> you, accept <05375> any man's

<0376> person <06440>, neither <03808> let me give <01478>

flattering <03665> titles unto man <0120>.

 22 For I know <03045> not to give flattering <03665> titles;

[in so doing] my maker <06213> would soon <04592> take <05375>

me away.

Job 33

 1. Wherefore <0199>, Job <0347>, I pray <04994> thee, hear

<08085> my speeches <04405>, and hearken <0238> to all <03605>

my words <01697>.

 2 Behold <02009>, now <04994> I have opened <06605> my mouth

<06310>, my tongue <03956> hath spoken <01696> in my mouth

<02441>.

3 My words <0561> [shall be of] the uprightness <03476> of my

heart <03820>: and my lips <08193> shall utter <04448> knowledge

<01847> clearly <01305>.

4 The Spirit <07307> of God <0410> hath made <06213> me, and

the breath <05397> of the Almighty <07706> hath given me life

<02421>.

5 If <0518> thou canst <03201> answer <07725> me, set [thy

words] in order <06186> before <06440> me, stand <03320> up.

 6 Behold <02005>, I [am] according to thy wish <06310> in God's

<0410> stead: I also <01571> am formed <07169> out of the clay

<02563>.

7 Behold <02009>, my terror <0367> shall not make thee afraid

<01204>, neither <03808> shall my hand <0405> be heavy <03513>

upon thee.

 8. Surely <0389> thou hast spoken <0559> in mine hearing <0241>,

and I have heard <08085> the voice <06963> of [thy] words

<04405>, [saying],

 9 I am clean <02134> without <01097> transgression <06588>, I

[am] innocent <02643>; neither <03808> [is there] iniquity

<05771> in me.

 10 Behold <02005>, he findeth <04672> occasions <08569> against

<05921> me, he counteth <02803> me for his enemy <0341>,

11 He putteth <07760> my feet <07272> in the stocks <05465>, he

marketh <08104> all <03605> my paths <0734>.

12 Behold <02005>, [in] this <02063> thou art not just <06663>:

I will answer <06030> thee, that God <0433> is greater <07235>

than man <0582>.

13 Why <04069> dost thou strive <07378> against <0413> him? for

he giveth not account <06030> of any <03605> of his matters

<01697>.

 14. For God <0410> speaketh <01696> once <0259>, yea twice

<08147>, [yet man] perceiveth <07789> it not.

 15 In a dream <02472>, in a vision <02384> of the night <03915>,

when deep <08639> sleep falleth <05307> upon men <0582>, in

slumberings <08572> upon the bed <04904>;

 16 Then <0227> he openeth <01540> the ears <0241> of men <0582>,

and sealeth <02856> their instruction <04561>,

17 That he may withdraw <05493> man <0120> [from his] purpose

<04639>, and hide <03680> pride <01466> from man <01397>.

18 He keepeth <02820> back <02820> his soul <05315> from the

pit <07845>, and his life <02416> from perishing <05674> by the

sword <07973>.

 19. He is chastened <03198> also with pain <04341> upon his bed

<04904>, and the multitude <07379> of his bones <06106> with

strong <0386> [pain]:

20 So that his life <02416> abhorreth <02092> bread <03899>,

and his soul <05315> dainty <08378> meat <03978>.

21 His flesh <01320> is consumed <03615> away, that it cannot

<03808> be seen <07210>; and his bones <06106> [that] were not

seen <07200> stick <08205> out.

22 Yea, his soul <05315> draweth near <07126> unto the grave

<07845>, and his life <02416> to the destroyers <04191>.

23 If <0518> there be a messenger <04397> with him, an

interpreter <03887>, one <0259> among <04480> a thousand <0505>,

to shew <05046> unto man <0120> his uprightness <03476>:

24 Then he is gracious <02603> unto him, and saith <0559>,

Deliver <06308> him from going <03381> down <03381> to the pit

<07845>: I have found <04672> a ransom <03724>.

 25 His flesh <01320> shall be fresher <07375> than a child's

<05290>: he shall return <07725> to the days <03117> of his

youth <05934>:

26 He shall pray <06279> unto God <0433>, and he will be

favourable <07520> unto him: and he shall see <07200> his face

<06440> with joy <08643>: for he will render <07725> unto man

<0582> his righteousness <06666>.

27 He looketh <07789> upon men <0582>, and [if any] say <0559>,

I have sinned <02398>, and perverted <05753> [that which was]

right <03477>, and it profited <07737> me not;

28 He will deliver <06299> his soul <05315> from going <05674>

into the pit <07845>, and his life <02416> shall see <07200> the

light <0216>.

 29. Lo <02005>, all <03605> these <0428> [things] worketh

<06466> God <0410> oftentimes with man <01397>,

30 To bring <07725> back <07725> his soul <05315> from the pit

<07845>, to be enlightened <0215> with the light <0216> of the

living <02416>.

 31 Mark <07181> well <07181>, O Job <0347>, hearken <08085>

unto me: hold <02790> thy peace <02790>, and I will speak

<01696>.

32 If <0518> thou hast <03426> any thing to say <04405>, answer

<07725> me: speak <01696>, for I desire <02654> to justify

<06663> thee.

33 If <0518> not, hearken <08085> unto me: hold <02790> thy

peace <02790>, and I shall teach <0502> thee wisdom <02451>.

Job 34

 1. Furthermore Elihu <0453> answered <06030> and said <0559>,

 2 Hear <08085> my words <04405>, O ye wise <02450> [men]; and

give ear <0238> unto me, ye that have knowledge <03045>.

3 For the ear <0241> trieth <0974> words <04405>, as the mouth

<02441> tasteth <02938> meat <0398>.

4 Let us choose <0977> to us judgment <04941>: let us know

<03045> among <0996> ourselves what <04100> [is] good <02896>.

 5 For Job <0347> hath said <0559>, I am righteous <06663>: and

God <0410> hath taken <05493> away <05493> my judgment <04941>.

 6 Should I lie <03576> against <05921> my right <04941>? my

wound <02671> [is] incurable <0605> without <01097>

transgression <06588>.

7 What <04310> man <01397> [is] like Job <0347>, [who] drinketh

<08354> up scorning <03933> like water <04325>?

8 Which goeth <0732> in company <02274> with the workers

<06466> of iniquity <0205>, and walketh <03212> with wicked

<07562> men <0582>.

 9 For he hath said <0559>, It profiteth <05532> a man <01397>

nothing <03808> that he should delight <07521> himself with God

<0430>.

 10. Therefore <03651> hearken <08085> unto me, ye men <0582> of

understanding <03824>: far <02486> be it from God <0410>, [that

he should do] wickedness <07562>; and [from] the Almighty

<07706>, [that he should commit] iniquity <05766>.

11 For the work <06467> of a man <0120> shall he render <07999>

unto him, and cause every man <0376> to find <04672> according

to [his] ways <0734>.

12 Yea <0637>, surely <0551> God <0410> will not do wickedly

<07561>, neither <03808> will the Almighty <07706> pervert

<05791> judgment <04941>.

13 Who <04310> hath given him a charge <06485> over the earth

<0776>? or who <04310> hath disposed <07760> the whole <03605>

world <08398>?

14 If <0518> he set <07760> his heart <03820> upon man, [if] he

gather <0622> unto himself his spirit <07307> and his breath

<05397>;

 15 All <03605> flesh <01320> shall perish <01478> together

<03162>, and man <0120> shall turn <07725> again <07725> unto

dust <06083>.

 16. If <0518> now [thou hast] understanding <0998>, hear

<08085> this <02063>: hearken <0238> to the voice <06963> of my

words <04405>.

17 Shall even <0637> he that hateth <08130> right <04941>

govern <02280>? and wilt thou condemn <07561> him that is most

<03524> just <06662>?

18 [Is it fit] to say <0559> to a king <04428>, [Thou art]

wicked <01100>? [and] to princes <05081>, [Ye are] ungodly

<07563>?

19 [How <0834> much less to him] that accepteth <05375> not the

persons <06440> of princes <08269>, nor <03808> regardeth

<05234> the rich <07771> more <06440> than <06440> the poor

<01800>? for they all <03605> [are] the work <04639> of his

hands <03027>.

20 In a moment <07281> shall they die <04191>, and the people

<05971> shall be troubled <01607> at midnight, and pass <05674>

away: and the mighty <047> shall be taken <05493> away <05493>

without <03808> hand <03027>.

21 For his eyes <05869> [are] upon the ways <01870> of man

<0376>, and he seeth <07200> all <03605> his goings <06806>.

22 [There is] no <0369> darkness <02822>, nor <0369> shadow

<06757> of death <06757>, where <08033> the workers <06466> of

iniquity <0205> may hide <05641> themselves.

23 For he will not lay <07760> upon man <0376> more <05750>

[than right <04941>]; that he should enter <01980> into judgment

<04941> with God <0410>.

24 He shall break <07489> in pieces mighty <03524> men without

<03808> number <02714>, and set <05975> others <0312> in their

stead <08478>.

 25 Therefore <03651> he knoweth <05234> their works <04566>,

and he overturneth <02015> [them] in the night <03915>, so that

they are destroyed <01792>.

26 He striketh <05606> them as wicked <07563> men in the open

<04725> sight <07200> of others;

27 Because they turned <05493> back <05493> from him, and would

not consider <07919> any <03605> of his ways <01870>:

28 So that they cause the cry <06818> of the poor <01800> to

come <0935> unto him, and he heareth <08085> the cry <06818> of

the afflicted <06041>.

29 When he giveth quietness <08252>, who <04310> then can make

trouble <07561>? and when he hideth <05641> [his] face <06440>,

who <04310> then can behold <07789> him? whether [it be done]

against <05921> a nation <01471>, or against <05921> a man

<0120> only <03162>:

30 That the hypocrite <02611> reign <04427> not, lest the

people <05971> be ensnared <04170>.

 31. Surely <03588> it is meet to be said <0559> unto God <0410>,

I have borne <05375> [chastisement], I will not offend <02254>

[any more]:

32 [That which] I see <02372> not teach <03384> thou me: if

<0518> I have done <06466> iniquity <05766>, I will do <06466>

no <03808> more.

33 [Should it be] according to thy mind <05973>? he will

recompense <07999> it, whether <03588> thou refuse <03988>, or

whether <03588> thou choose <0977>; and not I: therefore speak

<01696> what <04100> thou knowest <03045>.

34 Let men <0582> of understanding <03824> tell <0559> me, and

let a wise <02450> man <01397> hearken <08085> unto me.

 35 Job <0347> hath spoken <01696> without <03808> knowledge

<01847>, and his words <01697> [were] without <03808> wisdom

<07919>.

36 My desire <015> [is that] Job <0347> may be tried <0974>

unto the end <05331> because <05921> of [his] answers <08666>

for wicked <0205> men <0582>.

37 For he addeth <03254> rebellion <06588> unto his sin <02403>,

he clappeth <05606> [his hands] among <0996> us, and

multiplieth <07235> his words <0561> against God <0410>.

Job 35

 1. Elihu <0453> spake <06030> moreover, and said <0559>,

2 Thinkest <02803> thou this <02063> to be right <04941>,

[that] thou saidst <0559>, My righteousness <06664> [is] more

<03254> than God's <0410>?

3 For thou saidst <0559>, What <04100> advantage <05532> will

it be unto thee? [and], What <04100> profit <03276> shall I have,

[if I be cleansed] from my sin <02403>?

4 I will answer <04405> thee, and thy companions <07453> with

thee.

5 Look <05027> unto the heavens <08064>, and see <07200>; and

behold <07789> the clouds <07834> [which <0834>] are higher

<01361> than thou.

 6 If <0518> thou sinnest <02398>, what <04100> doest <06466>

thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions <06588> be

multiplied <07231>, what <04100> doest <06213> thou unto him?

7 If <0518> thou be righteous <06663>, what <04100> givest

<05414> thou him? or <0176> what <04100> receiveth <03947> he of

thine hand <03027>?

 8 Thy wickedness <07562> [may hurt] a man <0376> as thou [art];

and thy righteousness <06666> [may profit] the son <01121> of

man <0120>.

 9. By reason of the multitude <07230> of oppressions <06217>

they make [the oppressed] to cry <02199>: they cry <07768> out

by reason of the arm <02220> of the mighty <07227>.

 10 But none <03808> saith <0559>, Where <0335> [is] God <0433>

my maker <06213>, who giveth <05414> songs <02158> in the night

<03915>;

11 Who teacheth <0502> us more than the beasts <0929> of the

earth <0776>, and maketh us wiser <02449> than the fowls <05775>

of heaven <08064>?

12 There <08033> they cry <06817>, but none <03808> giveth

answer <06030>, because <06440> of the pride <01347> of evil

<07451> men.

13 Surely <0389> God <0410> will not hear <08085> vanity

<07723>, neither <03808> will the Almighty <07706> regard

<07789> it.

 14. Although thou sayest <0559> thou shalt not see <07789> him,

[yet] judgment <01779> [is] before <06440> him; therefore trust

<02342> thou in him.

15 But now <06258>, because <03588> [it is] not [so], he hath

visited <06485> in his anger <0639>; yet he knoweth <03045> [it]

not in great <03966> extremity <06580>:

16 Therefore doth Job <0347> open <06475> his mouth <06310> in

vain <01892>; he multiplieth <03527> words <04405> without

<01097> knowledge <01847>.

Job 36

 1. Elihu <0453> also proceeded <03254>, and said <0559>,

 2 Suffer <03803> me a little <02191>, and I will shew <02331>

thee that [I have] yet <05750> to speak <04405> on God's <0433>

behalf.

 3 I will fetch <05375> my knowledge <01843> from afar <07350>,

and will ascribe <05414> righteousness <06664> to my Maker

<06466>.

4 For truly <0551> my words <04405> [shall] not [be] false

<08267>: he that is perfect <08549> in knowledge <01844> [is]

with thee.

 5. Behold <02005>, God <0410> [is] mighty <03524>, and

despiseth <03988> not [any: he is] mighty <03524> in strength

<03581> [and] wisdom <03820>.

6 He preserveth <02421> not the life <02421> of the wicked

<07563>: but giveth <05414> right <04941> to the poor <06041>.

7 He withdraweth <01639> not his eyes <05869> from the

righteous <06662>: but with kings <04428> [are they] on the

throne <03678>; yea, he doth establish <03427> them for ever

<05331>, and they are exalted <01361>.

8 And if <0518> [they be] bound <0631> in fetters <02131>,

[and] be holden <03920> in cords <02256> of affliction <06040>;

9 Then he sheweth <05046> them their work <06467>, and their

transgressions <06588> that they have exceeded <01396>.

10 He openeth <01540> also their ear <0241> to discipline

<04148>, and commandeth <0559> that they return <07725> from

iniquity <0205>.

11 If <0518> they obey <08085> and serve <05647> [him], they

shall spend <03615> their days <03117> in prosperity <02896>,

and their years <08141> in pleasures <05273>.

12 But if <0518> they obey <08085> not, they shall perish

<05674> by the sword <07973>, and they shall die <01478> without

<01097> knowledge <01847>.

13 But the hypocrites <02611> in heart <03820> heap <07760> up

wrath <0639>: they cry <07768> not when <03588> he bindeth

<0631> them.

14 They die <04191> in youth <05290>, and their life <02416>

[is] among the unclean <06945>.

 15. He delivereth <02502> the poor <06041> in his affliction

<06040>, and openeth <01540> their ears <0241> in oppression

<03906>.

16 Even so would he have removed <05493> thee out of the strait

<06862> [into] a broad <07338> place, where [there is] no

<03808> straitness <04164>; and that which should be set <05183>

on thy table <07979> [should be] full <04390> of fatness <01880>.

17 But thou hast fulfilled <04390> the judgment <01779> of the

wicked <07563>: judgment <01779> and justice <04941> take

<08551> hold <08551> [on thee].

18 Because <03588> [there is] wrath <02534>, [beware] lest

<06435> he take <05496> thee away <05496> with [his] stroke

<05607>: then a great <07227> ransom <03724> cannot <03808>

deliver <05186> thee.

19 Will he esteem <06186> thy riches <07769>? [no <03808>], not

gold <01222>, nor <03808> all <03605> the forces <03981> of

strength <03581>.

20 Desire <07602> not the night <03915>, when people <05971>

are cut <05927> off in their place <08478>.

21 Take heed <08104>, regard <06437> not iniquity <0205>: for

this <02088> hast thou chosen <0970> rather than affliction

<06040>.

22 Behold <02005>, God <0410> exalteth <07682> by his power

<03581>: who <04310> teacheth <03384> like <03644> him?

23 Who <04310> hath enjoined <06485> him his way <01870>? or

who <04310> can say <0559>, Thou hast wrought <06466> iniquity

<05766>?

 24. Remember <02142> that thou magnify <07679> his work <06467>,

 which <0834> men <0582> behold <07891>.

 25 Every <03605> man <0120> may see <02372> it; man <0582> may

behold <05027> [it] afar <07350> off.

26 Behold <02005>, God <0410> [is] great <07689>, and we know

<03045> [him] not, neither <03808> can the number <04557> of his

years <08141> be searched <02714> out.

27 For he maketh small <01639> the drops <05197> of water

<04325>: they pour <02212> down rain <04306> according to the

vapour <0108> thereof:

28 Which <0834> the clouds <07834> do drop <05140> [and] distil

<07491> upon man <0120> abundantly <07227>.

29 Also <0637> can [any] understand <0995> the spreadings

<04666> of the clouds <05645>, [or] the noise <08663> of his

tabernacle <05521>?

30 Behold <02005>, he spreadeth <06566> his light <0216> upon

it, and covereth <03680> the bottom <08328> of the sea <03220>.

31 For by them judgeth <01777> he the people <05971>; he giveth

<05414> meat <0400> in abundance <04342>.

 32 With clouds <03709> he covereth <03680> the light <0216>;

and commandeth <06680> it [not to shine] by [the cloud] that

cometh <06293> betwixt <06293>.

 33 The noise <07452> thereof sheweth <05046> concerning <05921>

it, the cattle <04735> also <0637> concerning <05921> the vapour

<05927>.

Job 37

 1. At this <02063> also <0637> my heart <03820> trembleth

<02729>, and is moved <05425> out of his place <04725>.

2 Hear <08085> attentively <08085> the noise <07267> of his

voice <06963>, and the sound <01899> [that] goeth <03318> out of

his mouth <06310>.

3 He directeth <03474> it under <08478> the whole <03605>

heaven <08064>, and his lightning <0216> unto the ends <03671>

of the earth <0776>.

 4 After <0310> it a voice <06963> roareth <07580>: he

thundereth <07481> with the voice <06963> of his excellency

<01347>; and he will not stay <06117> them when <03588> his

voice <06963> is heard <08085>.

 5 God <0410> thundereth <07481> marvellously <06381> with his

voice <06963>; great <01419> things doeth <06213> he, which we

cannot <0408> comprehend <03045>.

 6. For he saith <0559> to the snow <07950>, Be thou [on] the

earth <0776>; likewise to the small rain <01653>, and to the

great <04306> rain <01653> of his strength <05797>.

7 He sealeth <02856> up the hand <03027> of every <03605> man

<0120>; that all <03605> men <0582> may know <03045> his work

<04639>.

 8 Then the beasts <02416> go <0935> into <01119> dens <0695>,

and remain <07931> in their places <04585>.

9 Out of the south <02315> cometh <0935> the whirlwind <05492>:

and cold <07135> out of the north <04215>.

10 By the breath <05397> of God <0410> frost <07140> is given

<05414>: and the breadth <07341> of the waters <04325> is

straitened <04164>.

11 Also <0637> by watering <07377> he wearieth <02959> the

thick cloud <05645>: he scattereth <06327> his bright <0216>

cloud <06051>:

12 And it is turned <02015> round <04524> about by his counsels

<08458>: that they may do <06467> whatsoever he commandeth

<06680> them upon the face <06440> of the world <08398> in the

earth <0776>.

13 He causeth it to come <04672>, whether <0518> for correction

<07626>, or for his land <0776>, or for mercy <02617>.

 14. Hearken <0238> unto this <02063>, O Job <0347>: stand

<05975> still <05975>, and consider <0995> the wondrous <06381>

works of God <0410>.

15 Dost thou know <03045> when God <0433> disposed <07760> them,

and caused the light <0216> of his cloud <06051> to shine

<03313>?

16 Dost thou know <03045> the balancings <04657> of the clouds

<05645>, the wondrous <04652> works of him which is perfect

<08549> in knowledge <01843>?

17 How <0834> thy garments <0899> [are] warm <02525>, when

<03588> he quieteth <08252> the earth <0776> by the south

<01864> [wind]?

18 Hast thou with him spread <07554> out the sky <07834>,

[which is] strong <02389>, [and] as a molten <03332> looking

<07209> glass <07209>?

 19 Teach <03045> us what <04100> we shall say <0559> unto him;

[for] we cannot <03808> order <06186> [our speech] by reason

<06440> of darkness <02822>.

20 Shall it be told <05608> him that I speak <01696>? if <0518>

a man <0376> speak <0559>, surely <03588> he shall be swallowed

<01104> up.

 21. And now <06258> [men] see <07200> not the bright <0925>

light <0216> which <01931> [is] in the clouds <07834>: but the

wind <07307> passeth <05674>, and cleanseth <02891> them.

22 Fair <02091> weather <02091> cometh <0857> out of the north

<06828>: with God <0433> [is] terrible <03372> majesty <01935>.

23 [Touching] the Almighty <07706>, we cannot <03808> find

<04672> him out: [he is] excellent <07689> in power <03581>, and

in judgment <04941>, and in plenty <07230> of justice <06666>:

he will not afflict <06031>.

 24 Men <0582> do <06213> therefore <03651> fear <03372> him: he

respecteth <07200> not any <03605> [that are] wise <02450> of

heart <03820>.

Job 38

 1. Then the LORD <03068> answered <06030> Job <0347> out of the

whirlwind <05591>, and said <0559>,

2 Who <04310> [is] this <02088> that darkeneth <02821> counsel

<06098> by words <04405> without <01097> knowledge <01847>?

 3 Gird <0247> up now <04994> thy loins <02504> like <03644> a

man <01397>; for I will demand <07592> of thee, and answer

<03045> thou me.

 4. Where <0375> wast <01961> thou when I laid the foundations

<03245> of the earth <0776>? declare <05046>, if thou hast

understanding <0998>.

5 Who <04310> hath laid <07760> the measures <04461> thereof,

if <03588> thou knowest <03045>? or <0176> who <04310> hath

stretched <05186> the line <06957> upon it?

6 Whereupon are the foundations <0134> thereof fastened

<02883>? or <0176> who <04310> laid <03384> the corner <06438>

stone <068> thereof;

7 When the morning <01242> stars <03556> sang <07442> together

<03162>, and all <03605> the sons <01121> of God <0430> shouted

<07321> for joy?

8 Or [who] shut <05526> up the sea <03220> with doors <01817>,

when it brake <01518> forth <01518>, [as if] it had issued

<03318> out of the womb <07358>?

 9 When I made <07760> the cloud <06051> the garment <03830>

thereof, and thick darkness <06205> a swaddlingband <02854> for

it,

10 And brake <07665> up for it my decreed <02706> [place], and

set <07760> bars <01280> and doors <01817>,

11 And said <0559>, Hitherto shalt thou come <0935>, but no

<03808> further <03254>: and here <06311> shall thy proud

<01347> waves <01530> be stayed <07896>?

 12. Hast thou commanded <06680> the morning <01242> since thy

days <03117>; [and] caused the dayspring <07837> to know <03045>

his place <04725>;

13 That it might take <0270> hold <0270> of the ends <03671> of

the earth <0776>, that the wicked <07563> might be shaken

<05287> out of it?

 14 It is turned <02015> as clay <02563> [to] the seal <02368>;

and they stand <03320> as a garment <03830>.

15 And from the wicked <07563> their light <0216> is withholden

<04513>, and the high <07311> arm <02220> shall be broken

<07665>.

16 Hast thou entered <0935> into <05704> the springs <05033> of

the sea <03220>? or hast thou walked <01980> in the search

<02714> of the depth <08415>?

17 Have the gates <08179> of death <04194> been opened <01540>

unto thee? or hast thou seen <07200> the doors <08179> of the

shadow <06757> of death <06757>?

18 Hast thou perceived <0995> the breadth <07338> of the earth

<0776>? declare <05046> if <0518> thou knowest <03045> it all

<03605>.

19 Where <0335> [is] the way <01870> [where <0335>] light

<0216> dwelleth <07931>? and [as for] darkness <02822>, where

<0335> [is] the place <04725> thereof,

20 That thou shouldest take <03947> it to the bound <01366>

thereof, and that thou shouldest know <0995> the paths <05410>

[to] the house <01004> thereof?

21 Knowest <03045> thou [it], because <03588> thou wast then

<0227> born <03205>? or [because] the number <04557> of thy days

<03117> [is] great <07227>?

22 Hast thou entered <0935> into <0413> the treasures <0214> of

the snow <07950>? or hast thou seen <07200> the treasures <0214>

of the hail <01259>,

23 Which <0834> I have reserved <02820> against the time

<06256> of trouble <06862>, against the day <03117> of battle

<07128> and war <04421>?

24 By what way <01870> is the light <0216> parted <02505>,

[which] scattereth <06327> the east <06921> wind upon the earth

<0776>?

 25. Who <04310> hath divided <06385> a watercourse <08585> for

the overflowing <07858> of waters, or a way <01870> for the

lightning <02385> of thunder <06963>;

26 To cause it to rain <04305> on <05921> the earth <0776>,

[where] no <03808> man <0376> [is; on <05921>] the wilderness

<04057>, wherein [there is] no <03808> man <0120>;

27 To satisfy <07646> the desolate <07722> and waste <04875>

[ground]; and to cause the bud <04161> of the tender herb

<01877> to spring <06779> forth <06779>?

 28 Hath <03426> the rain <04306> a father <01>? or <0176> who

<04310> hath begotten <03205> the drops <096> of dew <02919>?

29 Out of whose <04310> womb <0990> came <03318> the ice

<07140>? and the hoary <03713> frost <03713> of heaven <08064>,

who <04310> hath gendered <03205> it?

 30 The waters <04325> are hid <02244> as [with] a stone <068>,

and the face <06440> of the deep <08415> is frozen <03920>.

31 Canst thou bind <07194> the sweet <04575> influences <04575>

of Pleiades <03598>, or <0176> loose <06605> the bands <04189>

of Orion <03685>?

32 Canst thou bring <03318> forth <03318> Mazzaroth <04216> in

his season <06256>? or canst thou guide <05148> Arcturus <05906>

with his sons <01121>?

33 Knowest <03045> thou the ordinances <02708> of heaven

<08064>? canst thou set <07760> the dominion <04896> thereof in

the earth <0776>?

34 Canst thou lift <07311> up thy voice <06963> to the clouds

<05645>, that abundance <08229> of waters <04325> may cover

<03680> thee?

35 Canst thou send <07971> lightnings <01300>, that they may go

<03212>, and say <0559> unto thee, Here <02009> we [are]?

36 Who <04310> hath put <07896> wisdom <02451> in the inward

<02910> parts? or <0176> who <04310> hath given <05414>

understanding <0998> to the heart <07907>?

37 Who <04310> can number <05608> the clouds <07834> in wisdom

<02451>? or who <04310> can stay <07901> the bottles <05035> of

heaven <08064>,

38 When the dust <06083> groweth <03332> into hardness <04165>,

and the clods <07263> cleave <01692> fast together?

39 Wilt thou hunt <06679> the prey <02964> for the lion

<03833>? or fill <04390> the appetite <02416> of the young

<03715> lions <03715>,

40 When <03588> they couch <07742> in [their] dens <04585>,

[and] abide <03427> in the covert <05521> to lie in wait <0695>?

41 Who <04310> provideth <03559> for the raven <06158> his food

<06718>? when <03588> his young <03206> ones cry <07768> unto

God <0410>, they wander <08582> for lack <01097> of meat <0400>.

Job 39

 1. Knowest <03045> thou the time <06256> when the wild <03277>

goats <03277> of the rock <05553> bring <03205> forth <03205>?

[or] canst thou mark <08104> when the hinds <0355> do calve

<02342>?

2 Canst thou number <05608> the months <03391> [that] they

fulfil? or knowest <03045> thou the time <06256> when they bring

<03205> forth <03205>?

3 They bow <03766> themselves, they bring <06398> forth <06398>

their young <03206> ones, they cast <07971> out their sorrows

<02256>.

4 Their young <01121> ones are in good <02492> liking <02492>,

they grow <07235> up with corn <01250>; they go <03318> forth

<03318>, and return <07725> not unto them.

5 Who <04310> hath sent <07971> out the wild <06501> ass

<05601> free <02670>? or who <04310> hath loosed <06605> the

bands <04147> of the wild <06171> ass <06171>?

 6 Whose <0834> house <01004> I have made <07760> the wilderness

<06160>, and the barren <04420> land his dwellings <04908>.

7 He scorneth <07832> the multitude <01995> of the city <07151>,

neither <03808> regardeth <08085> he the crying <08663> of the

driver <05065>.

8 The range <03491> of the mountains <02022> [is] his pasture

<04829>, and he searcheth <01875> after <0310> every <03605>

green <03387> thing.

9 Will the unicorn <07214> be willing <014> to serve <05647>

thee, or abide <03885> by thy crib <018>?

10 Canst thou bind <07194> the unicorn <07214> with his band

<05688> in the furrow <08525>? or will he harrow <07702> the

valleys <06010> after <0310> thee?

11 Wilt thou trust <0982> him, because <03588> his strength

<03581> [is] great <07227>? or wilt thou leave <05800> thy

labour <03018> to him?

12 Wilt thou believe <0539> him, that he will bring <07725>

home <07725> thy seed <02233>, and gather <0622> [it into] thy

barn <01637>?

 13. [Gavest thou] the goodly <07443> wings <03671> unto the

peacocks <07443>? or wings <034> and feathers <02624> unto the

ostrich <05133>?

14 Which <03588> leaveth <05800> her eggs <01000> in the earth

<0776>, and warmeth <02552> them in dust <06083>,

15 And forgetteth <07911> that the foot <07272> may crush

<02115> them, or that the wild <07704> beast <02416> may break

<01758> them.

16 She is hardened <07188> against her young <01121> ones, as

though [they were] not hers: her labour <03018> is in vain

<07385> without <01097> fear <06343>;

17 Because <03588> God <0433> hath deprived <05382> her of

wisdom <02451>, neither <03808> hath he imparted <02505> to her

understanding <0998>.

18 What time <06256> she lifteth <04754> up herself on high

<04791>, she scorneth <07832> the horse <05483> and his rider

<07392>.

 19. Hast thou given <05414> the horse <05483> strength <01369>?

hast thou clothed <03847> his neck <06677> with thunder <07483>?

20 Canst thou make him afraid <07493> as a grasshopper <0697>?

the glory <01935> of his nostrils <05170> [is] terrible <0367>.

21 He paweth <02658> in the valley <06010>, and rejoiceth

<07797> in [his] strength <03581>: he goeth <03318> on to meet

<07125> the armed <05402> men.

22 He mocketh <07832> at fear <06343>, and is not affrighted

<02865>; neither <03808> turneth <07725> he back <07725> from

the sword <02719>.

23 The quiver <0827> rattleth <07439> against <05921> him, the

glittering <03851> spear <02595> and the shield <03591>.

24 He swalloweth <01572> the ground <0776> with fierceness

<07494> and rage <07267>: neither <03808> believeth <0539> he

that [it is] the sound <06963> of the trumpet <07782>.

25 He saith <0559> among <01767> the trumpets <07782>, Ha

<01889>, ha <01889>; and he smelleth <07306> the battle <04421>

afar <07350> off, the thunder <07482> of the captains <08269>,

and the shouting <08643>.

 26. Doth the hawk <05322> fly <082> by thy wisdom <0998>, [and]

stretch <06566> her wings <03671> toward the south <08486>?

27 Doth the eagle <05404> mount <01361> up at <05291> thy

command <06310>, and make her nest <07064> on high <07311>?

28 She dwelleth <07931> and abideth <03885> on the rock <05553>,

upon the crag <08127> of the rock <05553>, and the strong

<04686> place.

29 From thence <08033> she seeketh <02658> the prey <0400>,

[and] her eyes <05869> behold <05027> afar <07350> off.

30 Her young <0667> ones also suck <05966> up blood <01818>:

and where <0834> the slain <02491> [are], there <08033> [is] she.

Job 40

 1. Moreover the LORD <03068> answered <06030> Job <0347>, and

said <0559>,

2 Shall he that contendeth <07378> with the Almighty <07706>

instruct <03250> [him]? he that reproveth <03198> God <0433>,

let him answer <06030> it.

3 Then Job <0347> answered <06030> the LORD <03068>, and said

<0559>,

 4 Behold <02005>, I am vile <07043>; what <04100> shall I

answer <07725> thee? I will lay <07760> mine hand <03027> upon

my mouth <06310>.

 5 Once <0259> have I spoken <01696>; but I will not answer

<06030>: yea, twice <08147>; but I will proceed <03254> no

<03808> further.

 6. Then answered <06030> the LORD <03068> unto Job <0347> out

of the whirlwind <05591>, and said <0559>,

 7 Gird <0247> up thy loins <02504> now <04994> like a man

<01397>: I will demand <07592> of thee, and declare <03045> thou

unto me.

8 Wilt thou also <0637> disannul <06565> my judgment <04941>?

wilt thou condemn <07561> me, that thou mayest be righteous

<06663>?

9 Hast thou an arm <02220> like God <0410>? or canst thou

thunder <07481> with a voice <06963> like <03644> him?

10 Deck <05710> thyself now <04994> [with] majesty <01347> and

excellency <01363>; and array <03847> thyself with glory <01935>

and beauty <01926>.

11 Cast <06327> abroad <06327> the rage <05678> of thy wrath

<0639>: and behold <07200> every <03605> one [that is] proud

<01343>, and abase <08213> him.

12 Look <07200> on every <03605> one [that is] proud <01343>,

[and] bring <03665> him low <03665>; and tread <01915> down the

wicked <07563> in their place <08478>.

 13 Hide <02934> them in the dust <06083> together <03162>;

[and] bind <02280> their faces <06440> in secret <02934>.

14 Then will I also <01571> confess <03034> unto thee that

thine own right <03225> hand <03225> can save <03467> thee.

 15. Behold <02009> now <04994> behemoth <0930>, which <0834> I

made <06213> with thee; he eateth <0398> grass <02682> as an ox

<01241>.

16 Lo <02009> now <04994>, his strength <03581> [is] in his

loins <04975>, and his force <0202> [is] in the navel <08306> of

his belly <0990>.

 17 He moveth <02654> his tail <02180> like <03644> a cedar

<0730>: the sinews <01517> of his stones <06344> are wrapped

<08276> together.

18 His bones <06106> [are as] strong <0650> pieces of brass

<05154>; his bones <01634> [are] like bars <04800> of iron

<01270>.

19 He [is] the chief <07725> of the ways <01870> of God <0410>:

he that made <06213> him can make his sword <02719> to approach

<05066> [unto him].

20 Surely <03588> the mountains <02022> bring <05375> him forth

food <0944>, where <08033> all <03605> the beasts <02416> of the

field <07704> play <07832>.

21 He lieth <07901> under <08478> the shady <06628> trees, in

the covert <05643> of the reed <07070>, and fens <01207>.

22 The shady <06628> trees cover <05526> him [with] their

shadow <06752>; the willows <06155> of the brook <05158> compass

<05437> him about.

 23 Behold <02005>, he drinketh <06231> up a river <05104>,

[and] hasteth <02648> not: he trusteth <0982> that he can draw

<01518> up Jordan <03383> into <0413> his mouth <06310>.

24 He taketh <03947> it with his eyes <05869>: [his] nose

<0639> pierceth <05344> through snares <04170>.

Job 41

 1. Canst thou draw <04900> out leviathan <03882> with an hook

<0100>? or his tongue <03956> with a cord <02256> [which] thou

lettest <08257> down <08257>?

2 Canst thou put <07760> an hook <02443> into his nose <0639>?

or bore <05344> his jaw <03895> through with a thorn <02336>?

3 Will he make many <07235> supplications <08469> unto thee?

will he speak <01696> soft <07390> [words] unto thee?

4 Will he make <03772> a covenant <01285> with thee? wilt thou

take <03947> him for a servant <05650> for ever <05769>?

5 Wilt thou play <07832> with him as [with] a bird <06833>? or

wilt thou bind <07194> him for thy maidens <05291>?

6 Shall the companions <02271> make a banquet <03738> of him?

shall they part <02673> him among <0996> the merchants <03669>?

7 Canst thou fill <04390> his skin <05785> with barbed <07905>

irons <07905>? or his head <07218> with fish <01709> spears

<06767>?

8 Lay <07760> thine hand <03709> upon him, remember <02142> the

battle <04421>, do no <0408> more <03254>.

9 Behold <02005>, the hope <08431> of him is in vain <03576>:

shall not [one] be cast <02904> down <02904> even <01571> at the

sight <04758> of him?

10 None <03808> [is so] fierce <0393> that dare stir <05782>

him up: who <04310> then is able to stand <03320> before <06440>

me?

 11. Who <04310> hath prevented <06923> me, that I should repay

<07999> [him? whatsoever is] under <08478> the whole <03605>

heaven <08064> is mine.

12 I will not conceal <02790> his parts <0905>, nor his power

<01369>, nor his comely <02433> proportion <06187>.

13 Who <04310> can discover <01540> the face <06440> of his

garment <03830>? [or] who <04310> can come <0935> [to him] with

his double <03718> bridle <07448>?

14 Who <04310> can open <06605> the doors <01817> of his face

<06440>? his teeth <08127> [are] terrible <0367> round <05439>

about.

15 [His] scales [are his] pride <01346>, shut <05462> up

together [as with] a close <06862> seal <02368>.

16 One <0259> is so near <05066> to another <0259>, that no

<03908> air <07307> can come <0935> between <0996> them.

17 They are joined <01692> one <0376> to another <0250>, they

stick <03920> together, that they cannot <03808> be sundered

<06504>.

 18 By his neesings <05846> a light <0216> doth shine <01984>,

and his eyes <05869> [are] like the eyelids <06079> of the

morning <07837>.

19 Out of his mouth <06310> go <01980> burning <03940> lamps

<03940>, [and] sparks <03590> of fire <0784> leap <04422> out.

20 Out of his nostrils <05156> goeth <03318> smoke <06227>, as

[out] of a seething <05301> pot <01731> or caldron <0100>.

 21 His breath <05315> kindleth <03857> coals <01513>, and a

flame <03851> goeth <03318> out of his mouth <06310>.

22 In his neck <06677> remaineth <03885> strength <05797>, and

sorrow <01670> is turned <01750> into joy before <06440> him.

23 The flakes <04651> of his flesh <01320> are joined <01692>

together: they are firm <03332> in themselves; they cannot

<01077> be moved <04131>.

24 His heart <03820> is as firm <03332> as a stone <068>; yea,

as hard <03332> as a piece <06400> of the nether <08482>

[millstone].

25 When he raiseth <07613> up himself, the mighty <0410> are

afraid <01481>: by reason of breakings <07667> they purify

<02398> themselves.

26 The sword <02719> of him that layeth <05381> at him cannot

<01097> hold <06965>: the spear <02595>, the dart <04551>, nor

the habergeon <08302>.

27 He esteemeth <02803> iron <01270> as straw <08401>, [and]

brass <05154> as rotten <07539> wood <06086>.

28 The arrow cannot <03808> make him flee <01272>: slingstones

are turned <02015> with him into stubble <07179>.

29 Darts <08455> are counted <02803> as stubble <07179>: he

laugheth <07832> at the shaking <07494> of a spear <03591>.

30 Sharp <02303> stones <02789> [are] under <08478> him: he

spreadeth <07502> sharp <02742> pointed <02742> things upon the

mire <02916>.

31 He maketh the deep <04688> to boil <07570> like a pot

<05518>: he maketh <07760> the sea <03220> like a pot of

ointment <04841>.

 32 He maketh a path <05410> to shine <0215> after <0310> him;

[one] would think <02803> the deep <08415> [to be] hoary <07872>.

33 Upon earth <06083> there is not his like <04915>, who is

made <06213> without <01097> fear <02844>.

34 He beholdeth <07200> all <03605> high <01364> [things]: he

[is] a king <04428> over <05921> all <03605> the children

<01121> of pride <07830>.

Job 42

 1. Then Job <0347> answered <06030> the LORD <03068>, and said

<0559>,

 2 I know <03045> that thou canst <03201> do every <03605>

[thing], and [that] no <03908> thought <04209> can be withholden

<01219> from thee.

3 Who <04310> [is] he that hideth <05956> counsel <06098>

without <01097> knowledge <01847>? therefore <03651> have I

uttered <05046> that I understood <0995> not; things too

wonderful <06381> for me, which I knew <03045> not.

 4 Hear <08085>, I beseech <04994> thee, and I will speak

<01696>: I will demand <07592> of thee, and declare <03045> thou

unto me.

5 I have heard <08085> of thee by the hearing <08088> of the

ear <0241>: but now <06258> mine eye <05869> seeth <07200> thee.

6 Wherefore I abhor <03988> [myself], and repent <05162> in

dust <06083> and ashes <0665>.

 7. And it was [so], that after <0310> the LORD <03068> had

spoken <01696> these <0428> words <01697> unto Job <0347>, the

LORD <03068> said <0559> to Eliphaz <0464> the Temanite <08489>,

My wrath <0639> is kindled <02734> against thee, and against thy

two <08147> friends <07453>: for ye have not spoken <01696> of

me [the thing that is] right <03559>, as my servant <05650> Job

<0347> [hath].

8 Therefore take <03947> unto you now <06258> seven <07651>

bullocks <06499> and seven <07651> rams <0352>, and go <03212>

to my servant <05650> Job <0347>, and offer <05927> up for

yourselves a burnt <05930> offering; and my servant <05650> Job

<0347> shall pray <06419> for you: for him will I accept <05375>:

lest <01115> I deal <06213> with you [after <0310> your] folly

<05039>, in that ye have not spoken <01696> of me [the thing

which is] right <03559>, like my servant <05650> Job <0347>.

9 So Eliphaz <0464> the Temanite <08489> and Bildad <01085> the

Shuhite <07747> [and] Zophar <06691> the Naamathite <05284> went

<03212>, and did <06213> according as the LORD <03068> commanded

<01696> them: the LORD <03068> also accepted <05375> Job <0347>.

 10. And the LORD <03068> turned <07725> the captivity <07622>

of Job <0347>, when he prayed <06419> for his friends <07453>:

also the LORD <03068> gave <03254> Job <0347> twice <04932> as

much <0634> as he had before.

11 Then came <0935> there unto him all <03605> his brethren

<0251>, and all <03605> his sisters <0269>, and all <03605> they

that had been of his acquaintance <03045> before <06440>, and

did eat <0398> bread <03899> with him in his house <01004>: and

they bemoaned <05110> him, and comforted <05162> him over

<05921> all <03605> the evil <07451> that the LORD <03068> had

brought <0935> upon him: every man <0376> also gave <05414> him

a piece of money <07192>, and every <0376> one <0376> an earring

<05141> of gold <02091>.

12 So the LORD <03068> blessed <01288> the latter <0319> end of

Job <0347> more than his beginning <07225>: for he had <01961>

fourteen thousand <0505> sheep <06629>, and six <08337> thousand

<0505> camels <01581>, and a thousand <0505> yoke <06776> of

oxen <01241>, and a thousand <0505> she asses <0860>.

13 He had <01961> also seven <07658> sons <01121> and three

<07969> daughters <01121>.

14 And he called <07121> the name <08034> of the first <07223>,

Jemima <03224>; and the name <08034> of the second <08145>,

Kezia <07103>; and the name <08034> of the third <07992>,

Kerenhappuch <07163>.

15 And in all <03605> the land <0776> were no <03908> women

<0802> found <04672> [so] fair <03303> as the daughters <01121>

of Job <0347>: and their father <01> gave <05414> them

inheritance <05159> among <08432> their brethren <0251>.

 16 After <0310> this <02063> lived <02421> Job <0347> an

hundred <03967> and forty <0705> years <08141>, and saw <07200>

his sons <01121>, and his sons <01121>' sons <01121>, [even]

four <0702> generations <01755>.

17 So Job <0347> died <04191>, [being] old <02205> and full

<07646> of days <03117>.
