2Chronicles 1

 1. And Solomon <08010> the son <01121> of David <01732> was

strengthened <02388> in his kingdom <04438>, and the LORD

<03068> his God <0430> [was] with him, and magnified <01431> him

exceedingly <04605>.

2 Then Solomon <08010> spake <0559> unto all <03605> Israel

<03478>, to the captains <08269> of thousands <0505> and of

hundreds <03967>, and to the judges <08199>, and to every

<03605> governor <05387> in all <03605> Israel <03478>, the

chief <07218> of the fathers <01>.

3 So Solomon <08010>, and all <03605> the congregation <06951>

with him, went <03212> to the high <01116> place that [was] at

Gibeon <01391>; for there <08033> was the tabernacle <0168> of

the congregation <04150> of God <0430>, which <0834> Moses

<04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> had <01961> made

<06213> in the wilderness <04057>.

4 But the ark <0727> of God <0430> had David <01732> brought

<05927> up from Kirjathjearim <07157> to [the place which] David

<01732> had prepared <03559> for it: for he had pitched <05186>

a tent <0168> for it at Jerusalem <03389>.

5 Moreover the brasen <05178> altar <04196>, that Bezaleel

<01212> the son <01121> of Uri <0221>, the son <01121> of Hur

<02354>, had made <06213>, he put <07760> before <06440> the

tabernacle <04908> of the LORD <03068>: and Solomon <08010> and

the congregation <06951> sought <01875> unto it.

6 And Solomon <08010> went <05927> up thither <08033> to the

brasen <05178> altar <04196> before <06440> the LORD <03068>,

which [was] at the tabernacle <0168> of the congregation <04150>,

 and offered <05927> a thousand <0505> burnt <05930> offerings

upon it.

7 In that night <03915> did God <0430> appear <07200> unto

Solomon <08010>, and said <0559> unto him, Ask <07592> what

<04100> I shall give <05414> thee.

8 And Solomon <08010> said <0559> unto God <0430>, Thou hast

shewed <06213> great <01419> mercy <02617> unto David <01732> my

father <025>, and hast made me to reign <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

 9 Now <06258>, O LORD <03068> God <0430>, let thy promise

<01697> unto David <01732> my father <025> be established <0539>:

for thou hast made me king <04427> over <05921> a people

<05971> like the dust <06083> of the earth <0776> in multitude

<07227>.

10 Give <05414> me now <06258> wisdom <02451> and knowledge

<04093>, that I may go <03318> out and come <0935> in before

<06440> this <02088> people <05971>: for who <04310> can judge

<08199> this <02088> thy people <05971>, [that is so] great

<01419>?

11 And God <0430> said <0559> to Solomon <08010>, Because this

<02063> was in thine heart <03824>, and thou hast not asked

<07592> riches <06239>, wealth <05233>, or honour <03519>, nor

the life <05315> of thine enemies <08130>, neither <03808> yet

<01571> hast asked <07592> long <07227> life <03117>; but hast

asked <07592> wisdom <02451> and knowledge <04093> for thyself,

that thou mayest judge <08199> my people <05971>, over <05921>

whom I have made thee king <04427>:

 12 Wisdom <02451> and knowledge <04093> [is] granted <05414>

unto thee; and I will give <05414> thee riches <06239>, and

wealth <05233>, and honour <03519>, such <0834> as none <03808>

of the kings <04428> have had <01961> that [have been] before

<06440> thee, neither <03808> shall there any after <0310> thee

have <01961> the like <03651>.

 13. Then Solomon <08010> came <0935> [from his journey] to the

high <01116> place that [was] at Gibeon <01391> to Jerusalem

<03389>, from before <06440> the tabernacle <0168> of the

congregation <04150>, and reigned <04427> over <05921> Israel

<03478>.

 14 And Solomon <08010> gathered <0622> chariots <07393> and

horsemen <06571>: and he had <01961> a thousand <0505> and four

<0702> hundred <03967> chariots <07393>, and twelve thousand

<0505> horsemen <06571>, which he placed <03240> in the chariot

<07393> cities <05892>, and with the king <04428> at Jerusalem

<03389>.

15 And the king <04428> made <05414> silver <03701> and gold

<02091> at Jerusalem <03389> [as plenteous] as stones <068>, and

cedar <0730> trees made <05414> he as the sycomore <08256> trees

that [are] in the vale <08219> for abundance <07230>.

16 And Solomon <08010> had horses <05483> brought <04161> out

of Egypt <04714>, and linen <04723> yarn <04723>: the king's

<04428> merchants <05503> received <03947> the linen <04723>

yarn <04723> at a price <04242>.

17 And they fetched <05927> up, and brought <03318> forth

<03318> out of Egypt <04714> a chariot <04818> for six <08337>

hundred <03967> [shekels] of silver <03701>, and an horse

<05483> for an hundred <03967> and fifty <02572>: and so brought

<03318> they out [horses <05483>] for all <03605> the kings

<04428> of the Hittites <02850>, and for the kings <04428> of

Syria <0758>, by their means <03027>.

2Chronicles 2

 1. And Solomon <08010> determined <0559> to build <01129> an

house <01004> for the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>, and an

house <01004> for his kingdom <04438>.

2 And Solomon <08010> told <05608> out threescore <07657> and

ten thousand <0505> men <0376> to bear <05445> burdens <05449>,

and fourscore <08084> thousand <0505> to hew <02672> in the

mountain <02022>, and three <07969> thousand <0505> and six

<08337> hundred <03967> to oversee <05329> them.

3 And Solomon <08010> sent <07971> to Huram <02361> the king

<04428> of Tyre <06865>, saying <0559>, As thou didst deal

<06213> with David <01732> my father <025>, and didst send

<07971> him cedars <0730> to build <01129> him an house <01004>

to dwell <03427> therein, [even so deal with me].

 4 Behold <02009>, I build <01129> an house <01004> to the name

<08034> of the LORD <03068> my God <0430>, to dedicate <06942>

[it] to him, [and] to burn <06999> before <06440> him sweet

<05561> incense <07004>, and for the continual <08548> shewbread

<04635>, and for the burnt <05930> offerings morning <01242> and

evening <06153>, on the sabbaths <07676>, and on the new <02320>

moons <02320>, and on the solemn <04150> feasts <04150> of the

LORD <03068> our God <0430>. This <02063> [is an ordinance] for

ever <05769> to Israel <03478>.

 5 And the house <01004> which <0834> I build <01129> [is] great

<01419>: for great <01419> [is] our God <0430> above all <03605>

gods <0430>.

6 But who <04310> is able to build <01129> him an house <01004>,

seeing the heaven <08064> and heaven <08064> of heavens <08064>

cannot <03808> contain <03557> him? who <04310> [am] I then,

that I should build <01129> him an house <01004>, save <0518>

only to burn <06999> sacrifice before <06440> him?

 7 Send <07971> me now <06258> therefore a man <0376> cunning

<02450> to work <06213> in gold <02091>, and in silver <03701>,

and in brass <05178>, and in iron <01270>, and in purple <0710>,

and crimson <03758>, and blue <08504>, and that can skill

<03045> to grave <06603> with the cunning <02450> men that [are]

with me in Judah <03063> and in Jerusalem <03389>, whom <0834>

David <01732> my father <025> did provide <03559>.

 8 Send <07971> me also cedar <0730> trees <06086>, fir <01265>

trees, and algum <0418> trees, out of Lebanon <03844>: for I

know <03045> that thy servants <05650> can skill <03045> to cut

<03772> timber <06086> in Lebanon <03844>; and, behold <02009>,

my servants <05650> [shall be] with thy servants <05650>,

9 Even to prepare <03559> me timber <06086> in abundance

<07230>: for the house <01004> which <0834> I am about to build

<01129> [shall be] wonderful <06381> great <01419>.

10 And, behold <02009>, I will give <05414> to thy servants

<05650>, the hewers <02404> that cut <03772> timber <06086>,

twenty <06242> thousand <0505> measures <03734> of beaten

<04347> wheat <02406>, and twenty <06242> thousand <0505>

measures <03734> of barley <08184>, and twenty <06242> thousand

<0505> baths <01324> of wine <03196>, and twenty <06242>

thousand <0505> baths <01324> of oil <08081>.

 11. Then Huram <02438> the king <04428> of Tyre <06865>

answered <0559> in writing <03791>, which he sent <07971> to

Solomon <08010>, Because the LORD <03068> hath loved <0160> his

people <05971>, he hath made <05414> thee king <04427> over

<05921> them.

12 Huram <02361> said <0559> moreover, Blessed <01288> [be] the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, that made <06213>

heaven <08064> and earth <0776>, who <0834> hath given <05414>

to David <01732> the king <04428> a wise <02450> son <01121>,

endued <03045> with prudence <07922> and understanding <0998>,

that might build <01129> an house <01004> for the LORD <03068>,

and an house <01004> for his kingdom.

 13 And now <06258> I have sent <07971> a cunning <02450> man

<0376>, endued <03045> with understanding <0998>, of Huram

<02438> my father's <01>,

 14 The son <01121> of a woman <0802> of the daughters <01121>

of Dan <01835>, and his father <025> [was] a man <0376> of Tyre

<06876>, skilful <03045> to work <06213> in gold <02091>, and in

silver <03701>, in brass <05178>, in iron <01270>, in stone

<068>, and in timber <06086>, in purple <0713>, in blue <08504>,

and in fine linen <0948>, and in crimson <03758>; also to grave

<06605> any <03605> manner of graving <06603>, and to find

<02803> out every <03605> device <04284> which <0834> shall be

put <05414> to him, with thy cunning <02450> men, and with the

cunning <02450> men of my lord <0113> David <01732> thy father

<025>.

15 Now <06258> therefore the wheat <02406>, and the barley

<08184>, the oil <08081>, and the wine <03196>, which <0834> my

lord <0113> hath spoken <0559> of, let him send <07971> unto his

servants <05650>:

16 And we will cut <03772> wood <06086> out of Lebanon <03844>,

as much <03605> as thou shalt need <06878>: and we will bring

<0935> it to thee in floats by sea <03220> to Joppa <03305>; and

thou shalt carry <05927> it up to Jerusalem <03389>.

 17 And Solomon <08010> numbered <05608> all <03605> the

strangers that [were] in the land <0776> of Israel <03478>,

after <0310> the numbering <05610> wherewith <0834> David

<01732> his father <025> had numbered <05608> them; and they

were found <04672> an hundred <03967> and fifty <02572> thousand

<0505> and three <07969> thousand <0505> and six <08337> hundred

<03967>.

18 And he set <06213> threescore <07657> and ten thousand

<0505> of them [to be] bearers <05449> of burdens <05449>, and

fourscore <08084> thousand <0505> [to be] hewers <02672> in the

mountain <02022>, and three <07969> thousand <0505> and six

<08337> hundred <03967> overseers <05329> to set the people

<05971> a work <05647>.

2Chronicles 3

 1. Then Solomon <08010> began <02490> to build <01129> the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068> at Jerusalem <03389> in mount

<02022> Moriah <04179>, where <0834> [the LORD] appeared <07200>

unto David <01732> his father <025>, in the place <04725> that

David <01732> had prepared <03559> in the threshingfloor <01637>

of Ornan <0771> the Jebusite <02983>.

2 And he began <02490> to build <01129> in the second <08145>

[day] of the second <08145> month <02320>, in the fourth <0702>

year <08141> of his reign <04438>.

3 Now these <0428> [are the things wherein] Solomon <08010> was

instructed <03245> for the building <01129> of the house <01004>

of God <0430>. The length <0753> by cubits <0520> after the

first <07223> measure <04060> [was] threescore <08346> cubits

<0520>, and the breadth <07341> twenty <06242> cubits <0520>.

4 And the porch <0197> that [was] in the front <06440> [of the

house], the length <0753> [of it was] according <05921> to the

breadth <07341> of the house <01004>, twenty <06242> cubits

<0520>, and the height <01363> [was] an hundred <03967> and

twenty <06242>: and he overlaid <06823> it within <06441> with

pure <02889> gold <02091>.

5 And the greater <01419> house <01004> he cieled <02645> with

fir <01265> tree <06086>, which he overlaid <02645> with fine

<02896> gold <02091>, and set <05927> thereon <05921> palm

<08561> trees and chains <08333>.

6 And he garnished <06823> the house <01004> with precious

<03368> stones <068> for beauty <08597>: and the gold <02091>

[was] gold <02091> of Parvaim <06516>.

7 He overlaid <02645> also the house <01004>, the beams <06982>,

the posts <05592>, and the walls <07023> thereof, and the doors

<01817> thereof, with gold <02091>; and graved <06605> cherubims

<03742> on <05921> the walls <07023>.

8 And he made <06213> the most <06944> holy <06944> house

<01004>, the length <0753> whereof [was] according <05921> to

the breadth <07341> of the house <01004>, twenty <06242> cubits

<0520>, and the breadth <07341> thereof twenty <06242> cubits

<0520>: and he overlaid <02645> it with fine <02896> gold

<02091>, [amounting] to six <08337> hundred <03967> talents

<03603>.

9 And the weight <04948> of the nails <04548> [was] fifty

<02572> shekels <08255> of gold <02091>. And he overlaid <02645>

the upper <05944> chambers <05944> with gold <02091>.

 10. And in the most <06944> holy <06944> house <01004> he made

<06213> two <08147> cherubims <03742> of image <06816> work

<04639>, and overlaid <06823> them with gold <02091>.

11 And the wings <03671> of the cherubims <03742> [were] twenty

<06242> cubits <0520> long <0753>: one <0259> wing <03671> [of

the one cherub was] five <02568> cubits <0520>, reaching <05060>

to the wall <07023> of the house <01004>: and the other <0312>

wing <03671> [was likewise] five <02568> cubits <0520>, reaching

<05060> to the wing <03671> of the other <0312> cherub <03742>.

12 And [one] wing <03671> of the other <0259> cherub <03742>

[was] five <02568> cubits <0520>, reaching <05060> to the wall

<07023> of the house <01004>: and the other <0312> wing <03671>

[was] five <02568> cubits <0520> [also], joining <01692> to the

wing <03671> of the other <0312> cherub <03742>.

13 The wings <03671> of these <0428> cherubims <03742> spread

<06566> themselves forth twenty <06242> cubits <0520>: and they

stood <05975> on <05921> their feet <07272>, and their faces

<06440> [were] inward <01004>.

14 And he made <06213> the vail <06532> [of] blue <08504>, and

purple <0713>, and crimson <03758>, and fine linen <0948>, and

wrought <05927> cherubims <03742> thereon <05921>.

15 Also he made <06213> before <06440> the house <01004> two

<08147> pillars <05982> of thirty <07970> and five <02568>

cubits <0520> high <0753>, and the chapiter <06858> that [was]

on <05921> the top <07218> of each of them [was] five <02568>

cubits <0520>.

16 And he made <06213> chains <08333>, [as] in the oracle

<01687>, and put <05414> [them] on <05921> the heads <07218> of

the pillars <05982>; and made <06213> an hundred <03967>

pomegranates <07416>, and put <05414> [them] on the chains

<08333>.

17 And he reared <06965> up the pillars <05982> before <05921>

the temple <01964>, one <0259> on the right <03225> hand, and

the other <0259> on the left <08040>; and called <07121> the

name <08034> of that on the right <03227> hand <03027> Jachin

<03199>, and the name <08034> of that on the left <08042> Boaz

<01162>.

2Chronicles 4

 1. Moreover he made <06213> an altar <04196> of brass <05178>,

twenty <06242> cubits <0520> the length <0753> thereof, and

twenty <06242> cubits <0520> the breadth <07341> thereof, and

ten <06235> cubits <0520> the height <06967> thereof.

 2 Also he made <06213> a molten <03332> sea <03220> of ten

<06235> cubits <0520> from brim <08193> to brim <08193>, round

<05696> in compass <05439>, and five <02568> cubits <0520> the

height <06967> thereof; and a line <06957> of thirty <07970>

cubits <0520> did compass <05437> it round <05439> about.

3 And under <08478> it [was] the similitude <01823> of oxen

<01241>, which did compass <05437> it round <05439> about: ten

<06235> in a cubit <0520>, compassing <05362> the sea <03220>

round <05439> about. Two <08147> rows <02905> of oxen <01241>

[were] cast <03332>, when it was cast <04166>.

4 It stood <05975> upon twelve oxen <01241>, three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the north <06828>, and three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the west <03220>, and three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the south <05045>, and three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the east <04217>: and the sea <03220>

[was set] above <04605> upon them, and all <03605> their hinder

<0268> parts [were] inward <01004>.

5 And the thickness <05672> of it [was] an handbreadth <02947>,

and the brim <08193> of it like <03651> the work <04639> of the

brim <08193> of a cup <03563>, with flowers <06525> of lilies

<07799>; [and] it received <02388> and held <03557> three

<07969> thousand <0505> baths <01324>.

6 He made <06213> also ten <06235> lavers <03595>, and put

<05414> five <02568> on the right <03225> hand, and five <02568>

on the left <08040>, to wash <07364> in them: such things as

they offered <04639> for the burnt <05930> offering they washed

<01740> in them; but the sea <03220> [was] for the priests

<03548> to wash <07364> in.

7 And he made <06213> ten <06235> candlesticks <04501> of gold

<02091> according to their form <04941>, and set <05414> [them]

in the temple <01964>, five <02568> on the right <03225> hand,

and five <02568> on the left <08040>.

8 He made <06213> also ten <06235> tables <07979>, and placed

<03240> [them] in the temple <01964>, five <02568> on the right

<03225> side, and five <02568> on the left <08040>. And he made

<06213> an hundred <03967> basons <04219> of gold <02091>.

9 Furthermore he made <06213> the court <02691> of the priests

<03548>, and the great <01419> court <05835>, and doors <01817>

for the court <05835>, and overlaid <06823> the doors <01817> of

them with brass <05178>.

10 And he set <05414> the sea <03220> on the right <03233> side

<03802> of the east <06924> end, over <04136> against <04136>

the south <05045>.

 11. And Huram <02361> made <06213> the pots <05518>, and the

shovels <03257>, and the basons <04219>. And Huram <02361>

finished <03615> the work <04399> that he was to make <06213>

for king <04428> Solomon <08010> for the house <01004> of God

<0430>;

12 [To wit], the two <08147> pillars <05982>, and the pommels

<01543>, and the chapiters <03805> [which were] on <05921> the

top <07218> of the two pillars <05982>, and the two <08147>

wreaths <07639> to cover <03680> the two <08147> pommels <01543>

of the chapiters <03805> which <0834> [were] on <05921> the top

<07218> of the pillars <05982>;

13 And four <0702> hundred <03967> pomegranates <07416> on the

two <08147> wreaths <07639>; two <08147> rows <02905> of

pomegranates <07416> on each <0259> wreath <07639>, to cover

<03680> the two <08147> pommels <01543> of the chapiters <03805>

which <0834> [were] upon the pillars <05982>.

14 He made <06213> also bases <04350>, and lavers <03595> made

<06213> he upon the bases <04350>;

15 One <0259> sea <03220>, and twelve oxen <01241> under

<08478> it.

16 The pots <05518> also, and the shovels <03257>, and the

fleshhooks <04207>, and all <03605> their instruments <03627>,

did Huram <02361> his father <025> make <06213> to king <04428>

Solomon <08010> for the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> of

bright <04838> brass <05178>.

17 In the plain <03603> of Jordan <03383> did the king <04428>

cast <03332> them, in the clay <04568> ground <0127> between

<0996> Succoth <05523> and Zeredathah.

 18 Thus Solomon <08010> made <06213> all <03605> these <0428>

vessels <03627> in great <03966> abundance <07230>: for the

weight <04948> of the brass <05178> could not be found <02713>

out.

19 And Solomon <08010> made <06213> all <03605> the vessels

<03627> that [were for] the house <01004> of God <0430>, the

golden <02091> altar <04196> also, and the tables <07979>

whereon <05921> the shewbread [was set];

20 Moreover the candlesticks <04501> with their lamps <05216>,

that they should burn <01197> after the manner <04941> before

<06440> the oracle <01687>, of pure <05462> gold <02091>;

21 And the flowers <06525>, and the lamps <05216>, and the

tongs <04457>, [made he of] gold <02091>, [and] that perfect

<04357> gold <02091>;

22 And the snuffers <04212>, and the basons <04219>, and the

spoons <03709>, and the censers <04289>, [of] pure <05462> gold

<02091>: and the entry <06607> of the house <01004>, the inner

<06442> doors <01817> thereof for the most <06944> holy <06944>

[place], and the doors <01817> of the house <01004> of the

temple <01964>, [were of] gold <02091>.

2Chronicles 5

 1. Thus all the work <04399> that Solomon <08010> made <06213>

for the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> was finished <07999>:

and Solomon <08010> brought <0935> in [all <03605>] the things

that David <01732> his father <025> had dedicated <06944>; and

the silver <03701>, and the gold <02091>, and all <03605> the

instruments <03627>, put <05414> he among the treasures <0214>

of the house <01004> of God <0430>.

 2 Then <0227> Solomon <08010> assembled <06950> the elders

<02205> of Israel <03478>, and all <03605> the heads <07218> of

the tribes <04294>, the chief <05387> of the fathers <01> of the

children <01121> of Israel <03478>, unto Jerusalem <03389>, to

bring <05927> up the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the

LORD <03068> out of the city <05892> of David <01732>, which

<01958> [is] Zion <06726>.

3 Wherefore all <03605> the men <0376> of Israel <03478>

assembled <06950> themselves unto the king <04428> in the feast

<02282> which <01931> [was] in the seventh <07637> month <02320>.

4 And all <03605> the elders <02205> of Israel <03478> came

<0935>; and the Levites <03881> took <05375> up the ark <0727>.

5 And they brought <05927> up the ark <0727>, and the

tabernacle <0168> of the congregation <04150>, and all <03605>

the holy <06944> vessels <03627> that [were] in the tabernacle

<0168>, these did the priests <03548> [and] the Levites <03881>

bring <05927> up.

6 Also king <04428> Solomon <08010>, and all <03605> the

congregation <05712> of Israel <03478> that were assembled

<03259> unto him before <06440> the ark <0727>, sacrificed

<02076> sheep <06629> and oxen <01241>, which <0834> could not

be told <05608> nor <03808> numbered <04487> for multitude

<07230>.

7 And the priests <03548> brought <0935> in the ark <0727> of

the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> unto his place <04725>,

to the oracle <01687> of the house <01004>, into <0413> the most

<06944> holy <06944> [place, even] under <08478> the wings

<03671> of the cherubims <03742>:

8 For the cherubims <03742> spread <06566> forth [their] wings

<03671> over <05921> the place <04725> of the ark <0727>, and

the cherubims <03742> covered <03680> the ark <0727> and the

staves <0905> thereof above <04605>.

9 And they drew <0748> out the staves <0905> [of the ark

<0727>], that the ends <07218> of the staves <0905> were seen

<07200> from the ark before the oracle <01687>; but they were

not seen <07200> without <02351>. And there <08033> it is unto

this <02088> day <03117>.

10 [There was] nothing <0369> in the ark <0727> save <07535>

the two <08147> tables <03871> which <0834> Moses <04872> put

<05414> [therein] at Horeb <02722>, when <0834> the LORD <03068>

made <03772> [a covenant] with the children <01121> of Israel

<03478>, when they came <03318> out of Egypt <04714>.

 11. And it came <01961> to pass, when the priests <03548> were

come <03318> out of the holy <06944> [place]: (for all <03605>

the priests <03548> [that were] present <04672> were sanctified

<06942>, [and] did not [then] wait <08104> by course <04256>:

12 Also the Levites <03881> [which were] the singers <07891>,

all <03605> of them of Asaph <0623>, of Heman <01968>, of

Jeduthun <03038>, with their sons <01121> and their brethren

<0251>, [being] arrayed <03847> in white linen <0948>, having

cymbals <04700> and psalteries <05035> and harps <03658>, stood

<05975> at the east <04217> end of the altar <04196>, and with

them an hundred <03967> and twenty <06242> priests <03548>

sounding <02690> with trumpets <02689>:)

13 It came <01961> even to pass, as the trumpeters <02689> and

singers <07891> [were] as one <0259>, to make one <0259> sound

<06963> to be heard <08085> in praising <01984> and thanking

<03034> the LORD <03068>; and when they lifted <07311> up

[their] voice <06963> with the trumpets and cymbals <04700> and

instruments <03627> of musick <07892>, and praised <01984> the

LORD <03068>, [saying], For [he is] good <02896>; for his mercy

<02617> [endureth] for ever <05769>: that [then] the house

<01004> was filled <04390> with a cloud <06051>, [even] the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>;

14 So that the priests <03548> could <03201> not stand <05975>

to minister <08334> by reason <06440> of the cloud <06051>: for

the glory <03519> of the LORD <03068> had filled <04390> the

house <01004> of God <0430>.

2Chronicles 6

 1. Then <0227> said <0559> Solomon <08010>, The LORD <03068>

hath said <0559> that he would dwell <07931> in the thick

darkness <06205>.

2 But I have built <01129> an house <01004> of habitation

<02073> for thee, and a place <04349> for thy dwelling <03427>

for ever <05769>.

3 And the king <04428> turned <05437> his face <06440>, and

blessed <01288> the whole congregation <06951> of Israel <03478>:

and all <03605> the congregation <06951> of Israel <03478>

stood <05975>.

4 And he said <0559>, Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD <03068> God

<0430> of Israel <03478>, who hath with his hands <03027>

fulfilled <04390> [that] which <0834> he spake <01696> with his

mouth <06310> to my father <025> David <01732>, saying <0559>,

 5 Since <04480> the day <03117> that I brought <03318> forth

<03318> my people <05971> out of the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714> I chose <0977> no <03808> city <05892> among all <03605>

the tribes <07626> of Israel <03478> to build <01129> an house

<01004> in, that my name <08034> might be there <08033>; neither

<03808> chose <0977> I any man <0376> to be a ruler <05057> over

<05921> my people <05971> Israel <03478>:

6 But I have chosen <0977> Jerusalem <03389>, that my name

<08034> might be there <08033>; and have chosen <0977> David

<01732> to be over <05921> my people <05971> Israel <03478>.

7 Now it was in the heart <03824> of David <01732> my father

<025> to build <01129> an house <01004> for the name <08034> of

the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

8 But the LORD <03068> said <0559> to David <01732> my father

<025>, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart <03824> to build

<01129> an house <01004> for my name <08034>, thou didst well

<02895> in that it was in thine heart <03824>:

9 Notwithstanding <07535> thou shalt not build <01129> the

house <01004>; but thy son <01121> which shall come <03318>

forth <03318> out of thy loins <02504>, he shall build <01129>

the house <01004> for my name <08034>.

10 The LORD <03068> therefore hath performed <06965> his word

<01697> that he hath spoken <01696>: for I am risen <06965> up

in the room <08478> of David <01732> my father <025>, and am set

<03427> on <05921> the throne <03678> of Israel <03478>, as the

LORD <03068> promised <01696>, and have built <01129> the house

<01004> for the name <08034> of the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Israel <03478>.

11 And in it have I put <07760> the ark <0727>, wherein [is]

the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068>, that he made <03772>

with the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

 12. And he stood <05975> before <06440> the altar <04196> of

the LORD <03068> in the presence <05048> of all <03605> the

congregation <06951> of Israel <03478>, and spread <06566> forth

his hands <03709>:

 13 For Solomon <08010> had made <06213> a brasen <05178>

scaffold <03595>, of five <02568> cubits <0520> long <0753>, and

five <02568> cubits <0520> broad <07341>, and three <07969>

cubits <0520> high <06967>, and had set <05414> it in the midst

<08432> of the court <05835>: and upon it he stood <05975>, and

kneeled <01288> down upon his knees <01290> before <05048> all

<03605> the congregation <06951> of Israel <03478>, and spread

<06566> forth his hands <03709> toward heaven <08064>,

 14 And said <0559>, O LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>,

[there is] no <0369> God <0430> like <03644> thee in the heaven

<08064>, nor in the earth <0776>; which keepest <08104> covenant

<01285>, and [shewest] mercy <02617> unto thy servants <05650>,

that walk <01980> before <06440> thee with all <03605> their

hearts <03820>:

15 Thou which hast kept <08104> with thy servant <05650> David

<01732> my father <025> that which <0834> thou hast promised

<01696> him; and spakest <01696> with thy mouth <06310>, and

hast fulfilled <04390> [it] with thine hand <03027>, as [it is]

this day <03117>.

 16 Now <06258> therefore, O LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, keep <08104> with thy servant <05650> David <01732> my

father <025> that which <0834> thou hast promised <01696> him,

saying <0559>, There shall not fail <03772> thee a man <0376> in

my sight <06440> to sit <03427> upon the throne <03678> of

Israel <03478>; yet <07535> so that thy children <01121> take

heed <08104> to their way <01870> to walk <03212> in my law

<08451>, as thou hast walked <03212> before <06440> me.

 17 Now <06258> then, O LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, let thy word <01697> be verified <0539>, which <0834>

thou hast spoken <01696> unto thy servant <05650> David <01732>.

18 But will God <0430> in very <0552> deed dwell <03427> with

men <0120> on <05921> the earth <0776>? behold <02009>, heaven

<08064> and the heaven <08064> of heavens <08064> cannot <03808>

contain <03557> thee; how <0637> much <0637> less this <02088>

house <01004> which <0834> I have built <01129>!

19 Have respect <06437> therefore to the prayer <08605> of thy

servant <05650>, and to his supplication <08467>, O LORD <03068>

my God <0430>, to hearken <08085> unto the cry <07440> and the

prayer <08605> which <0834> thy servant <05650> prayeth <06419>

before <06440> thee:

20 That thine eyes <05869> may be open <06605> upon this

<02088> house <01004> day <03119> and night <03915>, upon the

place <04725> whereof <0834> thou hast said <0559> that thou

wouldest put <07760> thy name <08034> there <08033>; to hearken

<08085> unto the prayer <08605> which <0834> thy servant <05650>

prayeth <06419> toward <0413> this <02088> place <04725>.

21 Hearken <08085> therefore unto the supplications <08469> of

thy servant <05650>, and of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>,

which <0834> they shall make toward <0413> this <02088> place

<04725>: hear <08085> thou from thy dwelling <03427> place

<04725>, [even] from heaven <08064>; and when thou hearest

<08085>, forgive <05545>.

 22 If <0518> a man <0376> sin <02398> against his neighbour

<07453>, and an oath <0423> be laid <05375> upon him to make him

swear <0422>, and the oath <0423> come <0935> before <06440>

thine altar <04196> in this <02088> house <01004>;

23 Then hear <08085> thou from heaven <08064>, and do <06213>,

and judge <08199> thy servants <05650>, by requiting <07725> the

wicked <07563>, by recompensing <05414> his way <01870> upon his

own head <07218>; and by justifying <06663> the righteous

<06662>, by giving <05414> him according to his righteousness

<06666>.

24 And if <0518> thy people <05971> Israel <03478> be put to

the worse <05062> before <06440> the enemy <0341>, because

<03588> they have sinned <02398> against thee; and shall return

<07725> and confess <03034> thy name <08034>, and pray <06419>

and make supplication <02603> before <06440> thee in this

<02088> house <01004>;

25 Then hear <08085> thou from the heavens <08064>, and forgive

<05545> the sin <02403> of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>,

and bring <07725> them again <07725> unto the land <0127> which

<0834> thou gavest <05414> to them and to their fathers <01>.

26 When the heaven <08064> is shut <06113> up, and there is no

<03808> rain <04306>, because <03588> they have sinned <02398>

against thee; [yet] if they pray <06419> toward <0413> this

<02088> place <04725>, and confess <03034> thy name <08034>, and

turn <07725> from their sin <02403>, when <03588> thou dost

afflict <06031> them;

27 Then hear <08085> thou from heaven <08064>, and forgive

<05545> the sin <02403> of thy servants <05650>, and of thy

people <05971> Israel <03478>, when <03588> thou hast taught

<03384> them the good <02896> way <01870>, wherein <0834> they

should walk <03212>; and send <05414> rain <04306> upon thy land

<0776>, which <0834> thou hast given <05414> unto thy people

<05971> for an inheritance <05159>.

28 If <03588> there be dearth <07458> in the land <0776>, if

<03588> there be pestilence <01698>, if <03588> there be

blasting <07711>, or mildew <03420>, locusts <0697>, or

caterpillers <02625>; if <03588> their enemies <0341> besiege

<06696> them in the cities <08179> of their land <0776>;

whatsoever <03605> sore <05061> or whatsoever <03605> sickness

<04245> [there be]:

 29 [Then] what <0834> prayer <08605> [or] what <0834>

supplication <08467> soever <0834> shall be made of any <03605>

man <0120>, or of all <03605> thy people <05971> Israel <03478>,

when <0834> every <0376> one shall know <03045> his own sore

<05061> and his own grief <04341>, and shall spread <06566>

forth his hands <03709> in this <02088> house <01004>:

30 Then hear <08085> thou from heaven <08064> thy dwelling

<03427> place <04349>, and forgive <05545>, and render <05415>

unto every man <0120> according unto all <03605> his ways

<01870>, whose heart <03824> thou knowest <03045>; (for thou

only knowest <03045> the hearts <03824> of the children <01121>

of men <0120>:)

31 That they may fear <03372> thee, to walk <03212> in thy ways

<01870>, so <03605> long <03117> as they live <02416> in the

land <0127> which <0834> thou gavest <05414> unto our fathers

<01>.

 32 Moreover <01571> concerning <0413> the stranger <05237>,

which <0834> is not of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, but is

come <0935> from a far <07350> country <0776> for thy great

<01419> name's <08034> sake <04616>, and thy mighty <02389> hand

<03027>, and thy stretched <05186> out arm <02220>; if they come

<0935> and pray <06419> in this <02088> house <01004>;

33 Then hear <08085> thou from the heavens <08064>, [even] from

thy dwelling <03427> place <04349>, and do <06213> according to

all <03605> that the stranger <05237> calleth <07121> to thee

for; that all <03605> people <05971> of the earth <0776> may

know <03045> thy name <08034>, and fear <03372> thee, as [doth]

thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, and may know <03045> that

this <02088> house <01004> which <0834> I have built <01129> is

called <07121> by thy name <08034>.

 34 If <03588> thy people <05971> go <03318> out to war <04421>

against <05921> their enemies <0341> by the way <01870> that

thou shalt send <07971> them, and they pray unto thee toward

<01870> this <02063> city <05892> which <0834> thou hast chosen

<0977>, and the house <01004> which <0834> I have built <01129>

for thy name <08034>;

35 Then hear <08085> thou from the heavens <08064> their prayer

<08605> and their supplication <08467>, and maintain <06213>

their cause <04941>.

36 If <03588> they sin <02398> against thee, (for [there is] no

<0369> man <0120> which <0834> sinneth <02398> not,) and thou be

angry <0599> with them, and deliver <05414> them over <06440>

before <06440> [their] enemies <0341>, and they carry <07617>

them away <07617> captives <07617> unto a land <0776> far

<07350> off or <0176> near <07138>;

37 Yet [if] they bethink themselves in the land <0776> whither

they are carried <07617> captive <07617>, and turn <07725> and

pray <02603> unto thee in the land <0776> of their captivity

<07633>, saying <0559>, We have sinned <02398>, we have done

amiss <05753>, and have dealt wickedly <07561>;

38 If they return <07725> to thee with all <03605> their heart

<03820> and with all <03605> their soul <05315> in the land

<0776> of their captivity <07633>, whither <0834> they have

carried <07617> them captives <07617>, and pray <06419> toward

<01870> their land <0776>, which <0834> thou gavest <05414> unto

their fathers <01>, and [toward] the city <05892> which <0834>

thou hast chosen <0977>, and toward the house <01004> which

<0834> I have built <01129> for thy name <08034>:

39 Then hear <08085> thou from the heavens <08064>, [even] from

thy dwelling <03427> place <04349>, their prayer <08605> and

their supplications <08467>, and maintain <06213> their cause

<04941>, and forgive <05545> thy people <05971> which <0834>

have sinned <02398> against thee.

 40 Now <06258>, my God <0430>, let, I beseech <04994> thee,

thine eyes <05869> be open <06605>, and [let] thine ears <0241>

[be] attent <07183> unto the prayer <08605> [that is made] in

this <02088> place <04725>.

 41 Now <06258> therefore arise <06965>, O LORD <03068> God

<0430>, into thy resting <05118> place, thou, and the ark <0727>

of thy strength <05797>: let thy priests <03548>, O LORD <03068>

God <0430>, be clothed <03847> with salvation <08668>, and let

thy saints <02623> rejoice <08055> in goodness <02896>.

 42 O LORD <03068> God <0430>, turn <07725> not away the face

<06440> of thine anointed <04899>: remember <02142> the mercies

<02617> of David <01732> thy servant <05650>.

2Chronicles 7

 1. Now when Solomon <08010> had <01961> made an end <03615> of

praying <06419>, the fire <0784> came <03381> down <03381> from

heaven <08064>, and consumed <0398> the burnt <05930> offering

and the sacrifices <02077>; and the glory <03519> of the LORD

<03068> filled <04390> the house <01004>.

2 And the priests <03548> could <03201> not enter <0935> into

<0413> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, because <03588>

the glory <03519> of the LORD <03068> had filled <04390> the

LORD'S <03068> house <01004>.

3 And when all <03605> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>

saw <07200> how the fire <0784> came <03381> down <03381>, and

the glory <03519> of the LORD <03068> upon the house <01004>,

they bowed <03766> themselves with their faces <0639> to the

ground <0776> upon the pavement <07531>, and worshipped <07812>,

and praised <03034> the LORD <03068>, [saying], For [he is] good

<02896>; for his mercy <02617> [endureth] for ever <05769>.

4 Then the king <04428> and all <03605> the people <05971>

offered <02076> sacrifices <02077> before <06440> the LORD

<03068>.

 5 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> offered <02076> a sacrifice

<02077> of twenty <06242> and two <08147> thousand <0505> oxen

<01241>, and an hundred <03967> and twenty <06242> thousand

<0505> sheep <06629>: so the king <04428> and all <03605> the

people <05971> dedicated <02596> the house <01004> of God <0430>.

6 And the priests <03548> waited <05975> on their offices

<04931>: the Levites <03881> also with instruments <03627> of

musick <07892> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> David <01732>

the king <04428> had made <06213> to praise <03034> the LORD

<03068>, because <03588> his mercy <02617> [endureth] for ever

<05769>, when David <01732> praised <01984> by their ministry

<03027>; and the priests <03548> sounded <02690> trumpets before

<05048> them, and all <03605> Israel <03478> stood <05975>.

 7 Moreover Solomon <08010> hallowed <06942> the middle <08484>

of the court <02691> that [was] before <06440> the house <01004>

of the LORD <03068>: for there <08033> he offered <06213> burnt

<05930> offerings, and the fat <02459> of the peace <08002>

offerings, because <03588> the brasen <05178> altar <04196>

which <0834> Solomon <08010> had made <06213> was not able

<03201> to receive <03557> the burnt <05930> offerings, and the

meat offerings <04503>, and the fat <02459>.

8 Also at the same <01931> time <06256> Solomon <08010> kept

<06213> the feast <02282> seven <07651> days <03117>, and all

<03605> Israel <03478> with him, a very <03966> great <01419>

congregation <06951>, from the entering <0935> in of Hamath

<02574> unto the river <05158> of Egypt <04714>.

 9 And in the eighth <08066> day <03117> they made <06213> a

solemn <06116> assembly <06116>: for they kept <06213> the

dedication <02598> of the altar <04196> seven <07651> days

<03117>, and the feast <02282> seven <07651> days <03117>.

10 And on the three <07969> and twentieth <06242> day <03117>

of the seventh <07637> month <02320> he sent <07971> the people

<05971> away into their tents <0168>, glad <08056> and merry

<02896> in heart <03820> for the goodness <02896> that the LORD

<03068> had shewed <06213> unto David <01732>, and to Solomon

<08010>, and to Israel <03478> his people <05971>.

11 Thus Solomon <08010> finished <03615> the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, and the king's <04428> house <01004>: and all

<03605> that came <0935> into <05921> Solomon's <08010> heart

<03820> to make <06213> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

and in his own house <01004>, he prosperously <06743> effected

<06743>.

 12. And the LORD <03068> appeared <07200> to Solomon <08010> by

night <03915>, and said <0559> unto him, I have heard <08085>

thy prayer <08605>, and have chosen <0977> this <02088> place

<04725> to myself for an house <01004> of sacrifice <02077>.

13 If <02005> I shut <06113> up heaven <08064> that there be no

<03808> rain <04306>, or if <02005> I command <06680> the

locusts <02284> to devour <0398> the land <0776>, or if <0518> I

send <07971> pestilence <01698> among my people <05971>;

14 If my people <05971>, which <0834> are called <07121> by my

name <08034>, shall humble <03665> themselves, and pray <06419>,

and seek <01245> my face <06440>, and turn <07725> from their

wicked <07451> ways <01870>; then will I hear <08085> from

heaven <08064>, and will forgive <05545> their sin <02403>, and

will heal <07495> their land <0776>.

15 Now <06258> mine eyes <05869> shall be open <06605>, and

mine ears <0241> attent <07183> unto the prayer <08605> [that is

made] in this <02088> place <04725>.

 16 For now <06258> have I chosen <0977> and sanctified <06942>

this <02088> house <01004>, that my name <08034> may be there

<08033> for ever <05769>: and mine eyes <05869> and mine heart

<03820> shall be there <08033> perpetually.

17 And as for thee, if <0518> thou wilt walk <03212> before

<06440> me, as David <01732> thy father <025> walked <01980>,

and do <06213> according to all <03605> that I have commanded

<06680> thee, and shalt observe <08104> my statutes <02706> and

my judgments <04941>;

18 Then will I stablish <06965> the throne <03678> of thy

kingdom <04438>, according as I have covenanted <03772> with

David <01732> thy father <025>, saying <0559>, There shall not

fail <03772> thee a man <0376> [to be] ruler <04910> in Israel

<03478>.

19 But if <0518> ye turn <07725> away, and forsake <05800> my

statutes <02708> and my commandments <04687>, which <0834> I

have set <05414> before <06440> you, and shall go <01980> and

serve <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>, and worship <07812> them;

20 Then will I pluck <05428> them up by the roots <05428> out

of my land <0127> which <0834> I have given <05414> them; and

this <02088> house <01004>, which <0834> I have sanctified

<06942> for my name <08034>, will I cast <07993> out of my sight

<06440>, and will make <05414> it [to be] a proverb <04912> and

a byword <08148> among all <03605> nations <05971>.

 21 And this <02088> house <01004>, which <0834> is high <05945>,

shall be an astonishment <08074> to every <03605> one that

passeth <05674> by it; so that he shall say <0559>, Why <04100>

hath the LORD <03068> done <06213> thus <03602> unto this

<02063> land <0776>, and unto this <02088> house <01004>?

22 And it shall be answered <0559>, Because they forsook

<05800> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>, which

<0834> brought <03318> them forth <03318> out of the land <0776>

of Egypt <04714>, and laid hold <02388> on other <0312> gods

<0430>, and worshipped <07812> them, and served <05647> them:

therefore hath he brought <0935> all <03605> this <02063> evil

<07451> upon them.

2Chronicles 8

 1. And it came <01961> to pass at the end <07093> of twenty

<06242> years <08141>, wherein <0834> Solomon <08010> had built

<01129> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and his own house

<01004>,

2 That the cities <05892> which <0834> Huram <02438> had

restored <05414> to Solomon <08010>, Solomon <08010> built

<01129> them, and caused the children <01121> of Israel <03478>

to dwell <03427> there <08033>.

3 And Solomon <08010> went <03212> to Hamathzobah <02578>, and

prevailed <02388> against <05921> it.

4 And he built <01129> Tadmor <08412> in the wilderness <04057>,

and all <03605> the store <04543> cities <05892>, which <0834>

he built <01129> in Hamath <02574>.

5 Also he built <01129> Bethhoron <01032> the upper <05945>,

and Bethhoron <01032> the nether <08481>, fenced <04692> cities

<05892>, with walls <02346>, gates <01817>, and bars <01280>;

6 And Baalath <01191>, and all <03605> the store <04543> cities

<05892> that Solomon <08010> had <01961>, and all <03605> the

chariot <07393> cities <05892>, and the cities <05892> of the

horsemen <06571>, and all <03605> that Solomon <08010> desired

<02836> to build <01129> in Jerusalem <03389>, and in Lebanon

<03844>, and throughout all <03605> the land <0776> of his

dominion <04475>.

7 [As for] all <03605> the people <05971> [that were] left

<03498> of the Hittites <02850>, and the Amorites <0567>, and

the Perizzites <06522>, and the Hivites <02340>, and the

Jebusites <02983>, which <0834> [were] not of Israel <03478>,

8 [But] of their children <01121>, who <0834> were left <03498>

after <0310> them in the land <0776>, whom <0834> the children

<01121> of Israel <03478> consumed <03615> not, them did Solomon

<08010> make to pay <05927> tribute <04522> until <05704> this

<02088> day <03117>.

9 But of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did Solomon

<08010> make <05414> no <03808> servants <05650> for his work

<04399>; but they [were] men <0582> of war <04421>, and chief

<08269> of his captains <07991>, and captains <08269> of his

chariots <07393> and horsemen <06571>.

10 And these <0428> [were] the chief <08269> of king <04428>

Solomon's <08010> officers <05324>, [even] two hundred <03967>

and fifty <02572>, that bare <07287> rule <07287> over the

people <05971>.

11 And Solomon <08010> brought <05927> up the daughter <01323>

of Pharaoh <06547> out of the city <05892> of David <01732> unto

the house <01004> that he had built <01129> for her: for he said

<0559>, My wife <0802> shall not dwell <03427> in the house

<01004> of David <01732> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, because

<03588> [the places are] holy <06944>, whereunto <0834> the ark

<0727> of the LORD <03068> hath come <0935>.

 12. Then <0227> Solomon <08010> offered <05927> burnt <05930>

offerings unto the LORD <03068> on <05921> the altar <04196> of

the LORD <03068>, which <0834> he had built <01129> before

<06440> the porch <0197>,

 13 Even after a certain <01697> rate <01697> every day <03117>,

offering <05927> according to the commandment <04687> of Moses

<04872>, on the sabbaths <07676>, and on the new <02320> moons

<02320>, and on the solemn <04150> feasts <04150>, three <07969>

times <06471> in the year <08141>, [even] in the feast <02282>

of unleavened <04682> bread, and in the feast <02282> of weeks

<07620>, and in the feast <02282> of tabernacles <05521>.

14 And he appointed <05975>, according to the order <04941> of

David <01732> his father <025>, the courses <04256> of the

priests <03548> to their service <05656>, and the Levites

<03881> to their charges <04931>, to praise <01984> and minister

<08334> before <05048> the priests <03548>, as the duty <01697>

of every day <03117> required <03117>: the porters <07778> also

by their courses <04256> at every gate <08179>: for so <03651>

had David <01732> the man <0376> of God <0430> commanded <04687>.

15 And they departed <05493> not from the commandment <04687>

of the king <04428> unto the priests <03548> and Levites <03881>

concerning any <03605> matter <01697>, or concerning the

treasures <0214>.

16 Now all <03605> the work <04399> of Solomon <08010> was

prepared <03559> unto the day <03117> of the foundation <04143>

of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and until <05704> it

was finished <03615>. [So] the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>

was perfected <08003>.

 17 Then <0227> went <01980> Solomon <08010> to Eziongeber

<06100>, and to Eloth <0359>, at <05921> the sea <03220> side

<08193> in the land <0776> of Edom <0123>.

18 And Huram <02438> sent <07971> him by the hands <03027> of

his servants <05650> ships <0591>, and servants <05650> that had

knowledge <03045> of the sea <03220>; and they went <0935> with

the servants <05650> of Solomon <08010> to Ophir <0211>, and

took <03947> thence <08033> four <0702> hundred <03967> and

fifty <02572> talents <03603> of gold <02091>, and brought

<0935> [them] to king <04428> Solomon <08010>.

2Chronicles 9

 1. And when the queen <04436> of Sheba <07614> heard <08085> of

the fame <08088> of Solomon <08010>, she came <0935> to prove

<05254> Solomon <08010> with hard <02420> questions <02420> at

Jerusalem <03389>, with a very <03966> great <03515> company

<02428>, and camels <01581> that bare <05375> spices <01314>,

and gold <02091> in abundance <07230>, and precious <03368>

stones <068>: and when she was come <0935> to Solomon <08010>,

she communed <01696> with him of all <03605> that was in her

heart <03824>.

2 And Solomon <08010> told <05046> her all <03605> her

questions <01697>: and there was nothing hid <05956> from

Solomon <08010> which <0834> he told <05046> her not.

3 And when the queen <04436> of Sheba <07614> had seen <07200>

the wisdom <02451> of Solomon <08010>, and the house <01004>

that he had built <01129>,

4 And the meat <03978> of his table <07979>, and the sitting

<04186> of his servants <05650>, and the attendance <04612> of

his ministers <08334>, and their apparel <04403>; his cupbearers

<04945> also, and their apparel <04403>; and his ascent <05944>

by which <0834> he went <05927> up into the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>; there was no <03808> more <05750> spirit <07307>

in her.

5 And she said <0559> to the king <04428>, [It was] a true

<0571> report <01697> which <0834> I heard <08085> in mine own

land <0776> of thine acts <01697>, and of thy wisdom <02451>:

6 Howbeit I believed <0539> not their words <01697>, until

<05704> I came <0935>, and mine eyes <05869> had seen <07200>

[it]: and, behold <02009>, the one half <02677> of the greatness

<04768> of thy wisdom <02451> was not told <05046> me: [for]

thou exceedest <03254> the fame <08052> that I heard <08085>.

7 Happy <0835> [are] thy men <0582>, and happy <0835> [are]

these <0428> thy servants <05650>, which stand <05975>

continually <08548> before <06440> thee, and hear <08085> thy

wisdom <02451>.

8 Blessed <01288> be the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, which

<0834> delighted <02654> in thee to set <05414> thee on <05921>

his throne <03678>, [to be] king <04428> for the LORD <03068>

thy God <0430>: because thy God <0430> loved <0160> Israel

<03478>, to establish <05975> them for ever <05769>, therefore

made <05414> he thee king <04428> over <05921> them, to do

<06213> judgment <04941> and justice <06666>.

9 And she gave <05414> the king <04428> an hundred <03967> and

twenty <06242> talents <03603> of gold <02091>, and of spices

<01314> great <03966> abundance <07230>, and precious <03368>

stones <068>: neither <03808> was there any such <01932> spice

<01314> as the queen <04436> of Sheba <07614> gave <05414> king

<04428> Solomon <08010>.

10 And the servants <05650> also <01571> of Huram <02438>, and

the servants <05650> of Solomon <08010>, which <0834> brought

<0935> gold <02091> from Ophir <0211>, brought <0935> algum

<0418> trees <06086> and precious <03368> stones <068>.

11 And the king <04428> made <06213> [of] the algum <0418>

trees <06086> terraces <04546> to the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and to the king's <04428> palace <01004>, and harps

<03658> and psalteries <05035> for singers <07891>: and there

were none <03808> such <01992> seen <07200> before <06440> in

the land <0776> of Judah <03063>.

12 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> gave <05414> to the queen

<04436> of Sheba <07614> all <03605> her desire <02656>,

whatsoever <03605> she asked <07592>, beside <0905> [that] which

<0834> she had brought <0935> unto the king <04428>. So she

turned <02015>, and went <03212> away to her own land <0776>,

she and her servants <05650>.

 13. Now the weight <04948> of gold <02091> that came <0935> to

Solomon <08010> in one <0259> year <08141> was six <08337>

hundred <03967> and threescore <08346> and six <08337> talents

<03603> of gold <02091>;

14 Beside <0905> [that which] chapmen and merchants <05503>

brought <0935>. And all <03605> the kings <04428> of Arabia

<06152> and governors <06346> of the country <0776> brought

<0935> gold <02091> and silver <03701> to Solomon <08010>.

15 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> made <06213> two hundred

<03967> targets <06793> [of] beaten <07820> gold <02091>: six

<08337> hundred <03967> [shekels] of beaten <07820> gold <02091>

went <05927> to one <0259> target <06793>.

16 And three <07969> hundred <03967> shields <04043> [made he

of] beaten <07820> gold <02091>: three <07969> hundred <03967>

[shekels] of gold <02091> went <05927> to one <0259> shield

<04043>. And the king <04428> put <05414> them in the house

<01004> of the forest <03293> of Lebanon <03844>.

 17 Moreover the king <04428> made <06213> a great <01419>

throne <03678> of ivory <08127>, and overlaid <06823> it with

pure <02889> gold <02091>.

18 And [there were] six <08337> steps <04609> to the throne

<03678>, with a footstool <03534> of gold <02091>, [which were]

fastened <0270> to the throne <03678>, and stays <03027> on each

side of the sitting <03427> place <04725>, and two <08147> lions

<0738> standing <05975> by the stays <03027>:

19 And twelve lions <0738> stood <05975> there <08033> on the

one side and on the other <02088> upon the six <08337> steps

<04609>. There was not the like <03651> made <06213> in any

<03605> kingdom <04467>.

20 And all <03605> the drinking <04945> vessels <03627> of king

<04428> Solomon <08010> [were of] gold <02091>, and all <03605>

the vessels <03627> of the house <01004> of the forest <03293>

of Lebanon <03844> [were of] pure <05462> gold <02091>: none

<0369> [were of] silver <03701>; it was [not] any <03972> thing

accounted <02803> of in the days <03117> of Solomon <08010>.

 21 For the king's <04428> ships <0591> went <01980> to Tarshish

<08659> with the servants <05650> of Huram <02438>: every three

<07969> years <08141> once <0259> came <0935> the ships <0591>

of Tarshish <08659> bringing <05375> gold <02091>, and silver

<03701>, ivory <08143>, and apes <06971>, and peacocks <08500>.

 22 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> passed <01431> all <03605>

the kings <04428> of the earth <0776> in riches <06239> and

wisdom <02451>.

23 And all <03605> the kings <04428> of the earth <0776> sought

<01245> the presence <06440> of Solomon <08010>, to hear <08085>

his wisdom <02451>, that God <0430> had put <05414> in his heart

<03820>.

24 And they brought <0935> every man <0376> his present <04503>,

vessels <03627> of silver <03701>, and vessels <03627> of gold

<02091>, and raiment <08008>, harness <05402>, and spices

<01314>, horses <05483>, and mules <06505>, a rate <01697> year

<08141> by year <08141>.

 25 And Solomon <08010> had <01961> four <0702> thousand <0505>

stalls <0723> for horses <05483> and chariots <04818>, and

twelve thousand <0505> horsemen <06571>; whom he bestowed

<03240> in the chariot <07393> cities <05892>, and with the king

<04428> at Jerusalem <03389>.

26 And he reigned <04910> over all <03605> the kings <04428>

from the river <05104> even unto the land <0776> of the

Philistines <06430>, and to the border <01366> of Egypt <04714>.

27 And the king <04428> made <05414> silver <03701> in

Jerusalem <03389> as stones <068>, and cedar <0730> trees made

<05414> he as the sycomore <08256> trees that [are] in the low

<08219> plains <08219> in abundance <07230>.

28 And they brought <03318> unto Solomon <08010> horses <05483>

out of Egypt <04714>, and out of all <03605> lands <0776>.

29 Now the rest <07605> of the acts <01697> of Solomon <08010>,

first <07223> and last <0314>, [are] they not written <03789> in

the book <01697> of Nathan <05416> the prophet <05030>, and in

the prophecy <05016> of Ahijah <0281> the Shilonite <07888>, and

in the visions <02378> of Iddo <03260> the seer <02374> against

<05921> Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>?

 30 And Solomon <08010> reigned <04427> in Jerusalem <03389>

over <05921> all <03605> Israel <03478> forty <0705> years

<08141>.

31 And Solomon <08010> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

he was buried <06912> in the city <05892> of David <01732> his

father <025>: and Rehoboam <07346> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Chronicles 10

 1. And Rehoboam <07346> went <03212> to Shechem <07927>: for to

Shechem <07927> were all <03605> Israel <03478> come <0935> to

make him king <04427>.

2 And it came <01961> to pass, when Jeroboam <03379> the son

<01121> of Nebat <05028>, who <01931> [was] in Egypt <04714>,

whither <0834> he had fled <01272> from the presence <06440> of

Solomon <08010> the king <04428>, heard <08085> [it], that

Jeroboam <03379> returned <07725> out of Egypt <04714>.

3 And they sent <07971> and called <07121> him. So Jeroboam

<03379> and all <03605> Israel <03478> came <0935> and spake

<01696> to Rehoboam <07346>, saying <0559>,

4 Thy father <025> made our yoke <05923> grievous <07185>: now

<06258> therefore ease <07043> thou somewhat the grievous

<07186> servitude <05656> of thy father <025>, and his heavy

<03515> yoke <05923> that he put <05414> upon us, and we will

serve <05647> thee.

5 And he said <0559> unto them, Come <07725> again <07725> unto

me after three <07969> days <03117>. And the people <05971>

departed <03212>.

6 And king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> took counsel <03289> with

the old <02205> men that had <01961> stood <05975> before

<06440> Solomon <08010> his father <025> while he yet lived

<02416>, saying <0559>, What <0349> counsel <03289> give ye [me]

to return <07725> answer <01697> to this <02088> people <05971>?

7 And they spake <01696> unto him, saying <0559>, If <0518>

thou be kind <02896> to this <02088> people <05971>, and please

<07521> them, and speak <01696> good <02896> words <01697> to

them, they will be thy servants <05650> for ever.

8 But he forsook <05800> the counsel <06098> which <0834> the

old <02205> men gave <03289> him, and took counsel <03289> with

the young <03206> men that were brought <01431> up with him,

that stood <05975> before <06440> him.

9 And he said <0559> unto them, What <04100> advice <03289>

give ye that we may return <07725> answer <01697> to this

<02088> people <05971>, which <0834> have spoken <01696> to me,

saying <0559>, Ease <07043> somewhat the yoke <05923> that thy

father <025> did put <05414> upon us?

10 And the young <03206> men that were brought <01431> up with

him spake <01696> unto him, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> shalt

thou answer <0559> the people <05971> that spake <01696> unto

thee, saying <0559>, Thy father <025> made our yoke <05923>

heavy <03513>, but make thou [it] somewhat lighter <07043> for

us; thus <03541> shalt thou say <0559> unto them, My little

<06996> [finger] shall be thicker <05666> than my father's <01>

loins <04975>.

 11 For whereas <06258> my father <025> put <06006> a heavy

<03515> yoke <05923> upon you, I will put <03254> more <03254>

to your yoke <05923>: my father <025> chastised <03256> you with

whips <07752>, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions <06137>.

 12. So Jeroboam <03379> and all <03605> the people <05971> came

<0935> to Rehoboam <07346> on the third <07992> day <03117>, as

the king <04428> bade <01696>, saying <0559>, Come <07725> again

<07725> to me on the third <07992> day <03117>.

 13 And the king <04428> answered <06030> them roughly <07186>;

and king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> forsook <05800> the counsel

<06098> of the old <02205> men,

14 And answered <01697> them after the advice <06098> of the

young <03206> men, saying <0559>, My father <025> made your yoke

<05923> heavy <03513>, but I will add <03254> thereto <05921>:

my father <025> chastised <03256> you with whips <07752>, but I

[will chastise you] with scorpions <06137>.

15 So the king <04428> hearkened <08085> not unto the people

<05971>: for the cause <05252> was of God <0430>, that the LORD

<03068> might perform <06965> his word <01697>, which <0834> he

spake <01696> by the hand <03027> of Ahijah <0281> the Shilonite

<07888> to Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>.

16 And when all <03605> Israel <03478> [saw <07200>] that the

king <04428> would not hearken <08085> unto them, the people

<05971> answered <07725> the king <04428>, saying <0559>, What

<04100> portion <02506> have we in David <01732>? and [we have]

none <03808> inheritance <05159> in the son <01121> of Jesse

<03448>: every man <0376> to your tents <0168>, O Israel <03478>:

[and] now <06258>, David <01732>, see <07200> to thine own

house <01004>. So all <03605> Israel <03478> went <03212> to

their tents <0168>.

17 But [as for] the children <01121> of Israel <03478> that

dwelt <03427> in the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, Rehoboam

<07346> reigned <04427> over <05921> them.

 18 Then king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> sent <07971> Hadoram

<01913> that [was] over <05921> the tribute <04522>; and the

children <01121> of Israel <03478> stoned <07275> him with

stones <068>, that he died <04191>. But king <04428> Rehoboam

<07346> made speed <0553> to get <05927> him up to [his] chariot

<04818>, to flee <05127> to Jerusalem <03389>.

19 And Israel <03478> rebelled <06856> against the house

<01004> of David <01732> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

2Chronicles 11

 1. And when Rehoboam <07346> was come <0935> to Jerusalem

<03389>, he gathered <06950> of the house <01004> of Judah

<03063> and Benjamin <01144> an hundred <03967> and fourscore

<08084> thousand <0505> chosen <0970> [men], which were warriors,

to fight <03898> against <05973> Israel <03478>, that he might

bring <07725> the kingdom <04467> again <07725> to Rehoboam

<07346>.

2 But the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to

Shemaiah <08098> the man <0376> of God <0430>, saying <0559>,

3 Speak <0559> unto Rehoboam <07346> the son <01121> of Solomon

<08010>, king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and to all <03605>

Israel <03478> in Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144>, saying

<0559>,

4 Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Ye shall not go

<05927> up, nor <03808> fight <03898> against <05973> your

brethren <0251>: return <07725> every man <0376> to his house

<01004>: for this <02088> thing <01697> is done of me. And they

obeyed <08085> the words <01697> of the LORD <03068>, and

returned <07725> from going <03212> against <0413> Jeroboam

<03379>.

5 And Rehoboam <07346> dwelt <03427> in Jerusalem <03389>, and

built <01129> cities <05892> for defence <04692> in Judah

<03063>.

6 He built <01129> even Bethlehem <01035>, and Etam <05862>,

and Tekoa <08620>,

7 And Bethzur <01049>, and Shoco <07755>, and Adullam <05725>,

8 And Gath <01661>, and Mareshah <04762>, and Ziph <02128>,

9 And Adoraim <0115>, and Lachish <03923>, and Azekah <05825>,

10 And Zorah <06681>, and Aijalon <0357>, and Hebron <02275>,

which <0834> [are] in Judah <03063> and in Benjamin <01144>

fenced <04694> cities <05892>.

11 And he fortified <02388> the strong <04694> holds <04694>,

and put <05414> captains <05057> in them, and store <0214> of

victual <03978>, and of oil <08081> and wine <03196>.

12 And in every <03605> several city <05892> [he put] shields

<06793> and spears <07420>, and made them exceeding strong

<02388>, having Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144> on his side.

 13. And the priests <03548> and the Levites <03881> that [were]

in all <03605> Israel <03478> resorted <03320> to him out of all

<03605> their coasts <01366>.

14 For the Levites <03881> left <05800> their suburbs <04054>

and their possession <0272>, and came <03212> to Judah <03063>

and Jerusalem <03389>: for Jeroboam <03379> and his sons <01121>

had cast <02186> them off from executing the priest's <03547>

office unto the LORD <03068>:

15 And he ordained <05975> him priests <03548> for the high

<01116> places, and for the devils <08163>, and for the calves

<05695> which <0834> he had made <06213>.

16 And after <0310> them out of all <03605> the tribes <07626>

of Israel <03478> such as set <05414> their hearts <03824> to

seek <01245> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> came

<0935> to Jerusalem <03389>, to sacrifice <02076> unto the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>.

17 So they strengthened <02388> the kingdom <04438> of Judah

<03063>, and made Rehoboam <07346> the son <01121> of Solomon

<08010> strong <0559>, three <07969> years <08141>: for three

<07969> years <08141> they walked <01980> in the way <01870> of

David <01732> and Solomon <08010>.

18 And Rehoboam <07346> took <03947> him Mahalath <04258> the

daughter <01121> of Jerimoth <03406> the son <01121> of David

<01732> to wife <0802>, [and] Abihail <032> the daughter <01323>

of Eliab <0446> the son <01121> of Jesse <03448>;

19 Which bare <03205> him children <01121>; Jeush <03266>, and

Shamariah, and Zaham.

20 And after <0310> her he took <03947> Maachah <04601> the

daughter <01323> of Absalom <053>; which bare <03205> him Abijah

<029>, and Attai <06262>, and Ziza <02124>, and Shelomith

<08019>.

 21 And Rehoboam <07346> loved <0157> Maachah <04601> the

daughter <01323> of Absalom <053> above all <03605> his wives

<0802> and his concubines <06370>: (for he took <05375> eighteen

wives <0802>, and threescore <08346> concubines <06370>; and

begat <03205> twenty <06242> and eight <08083> sons <01121>, and

threescore <08346> daughters <01121>.)

22 And Rehoboam <07346> made Abijah <029> the son <01121> of

Maachah <04601> the chief <07218>, [to be] ruler <05057> among

his brethren <0251>: for [he thought] to make him king <04427>.

23 And he dealt wisely <0995>, and dispersed <06555> of all

<03605> his children <01121> throughout all <03605> the

countries <0776> of Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144>, unto

every <03605> fenced <04694> city <05892>: and he gave <05414>

them victual <04202> in abundance <07230>. And he desired

<07592> many <01995> wives <0802>.

2Chronicles 12

 1. And it came <01961> to pass, when Rehoboam <07346> had

established <03559> the kingdom <04438>, and had strengthened

<02394> himself, he forsook <05800> the law <08451> of the LORD

<03068>, and all <03605> Israel <03478> with him.

2 And it came <01961> to pass, [that] in the fifth <02549> year

<08141> of king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> Shishak <07895> king

<04428> of Egypt <04714> came <05927> up against <05921>

Jerusalem <03389>, because <03588> they had transgressed <04603>

against the LORD <03068>,

 3 With twelve <0505> hundred <03967> chariots <07393>, and

threescore <08346> thousand <0505> horsemen <06571>: and the

people <05971> [were] without <0369> number <04557> that came

<0935> with him out of Egypt <04714>; the Lubims <03864>, the

Sukkiims <05525>, and the Ethiopians <03569>.

4 And he took <03920> the fenced <04694> cities <05892> which

<0834> [pertained] to Judah <03063>, and came <0935> to

Jerusalem <03389>.

5 Then came <0935> Shemaiah <08098> the prophet <05030> to

Rehoboam <07346>, and [to] the princes <08269> of Judah <03063>,

that were gathered <0622> together to Jerusalem <03389> because

<06448> of Shishak <07895>, and said <0559> unto them, Thus

<03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Ye have forsaken <05800>

me, and therefore have I also left <05800> you in the hand

<03027> of Shishak <07895>.

6 Whereupon the princes <08269> of Israel <03478> and the king

<04428> humbled <03665> themselves; and they said <0559>, The

LORD <03068> [is] righteous <06662>.

7 And when the LORD <03068> saw <07200> that they humbled

<03665> themselves, the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came

<01961> to Shemaiah <08098>, saying <0559>, They have humbled

<03665> themselves; [therefore] I will not destroy <07843> them,

but I will grant <05414> them some <04592> deliverance <06413>;

and my wrath <02534> shall not be poured <05413> out upon

Jerusalem <03389> by the hand <03027> of Shishak <07895>.

8 Nevertheless <03588> they shall be his servants <05650>; that

they may know <03045> my service <05656>, and the service

<05656> of the kingdoms <04467> of the countries <0776>.

 9 So Shishak <07895> king <04428> of Egypt <04714> came <05927>

up against <05921> Jerusalem <03389>, and took <03947> away the

treasures <0214> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and

the treasures <0214> of the king's <04428> house <01004>; he

took <03947> all <03605>: he carried <03947> away also the

shields <04043> of gold <02091> which <0834> Solomon <08010> had

made <06213>.

10 Instead <08478> of which king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> made

<06213> shields <04043> of brass <05178>, and committed <06485>

[them] to the hands <03027> of the chief <08269> of the guard

<07323>, that kept <08104> the entrance <06607> of the king's

<04428> house <01004>.

11 And when <01767> the king <04428> entered <0935> into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, the guard <07323> came <0935>

and fetched <05375> them, and brought <07725> them again <07725>

into <0413> the guard <07323> chamber <08372>.

12 And when he humbled <03665> himself, the wrath <0639> of the

LORD <03068> turned <07725> from him, that he would not destroy

<07843> [him] altogether <03617>: and also <01571> in Judah

<03063> things <01697> went <01961> well <02896>.

 13. So king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> strengthened <02388>

himself in Jerusalem <03389>, and reigned <04427>: for Rehoboam

<07346> [was] one <0259> and forty <0705> years <08141> old

<01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427>

seventeen <07651> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>, the city

<05892> which <0834> the LORD <03068> had chosen <0977> out of

all <03605> the tribes <07626> of Israel <03478>, to put <07760>

his name <08034> there <08033>. And his mother's <0517> name

<08034> [was] Naamah <05279> an Ammonitess <05984>.

14 And he did <06213> evil <07451>, because <03588> he prepared

<03559> not his heart <03820> to seek <01875> the LORD <03068>.

15 Now the acts <01697> of Rehoboam <07346>, first <07223> and

last <0314>, [are] they not written <03789> in the book <01697>

of Shemaiah <08098> the prophet <05030>, and of Iddo <05714> the

seer <02374> concerning genealogies <03187>? And [there were]

wars <04421> between Rehoboam <07346> and Jeroboam <03379>

continually.

16 And Rehoboam <07346> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>,

and was buried <06912> in the city <05892> of David <01732>: and

Abijah <029> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

2Chronicles 13

 1. Now in the eighteenth year <08141> of king <04428> Jeroboam

<03379> began Abijah <029> to reign <04427> over <05921> Judah

<03063>.

2 He reigned <04427> three <07969> years <08141> in Jerusalem

<03389>. His mother's <0517> name <08034> also [was] Michaiah

<04322> the daughter <01323> of Uriel <0222> of Gibeah <01390>.

And there was war <04421> between <0996> Abijah <029> and

Jeroboam <03379>.

3 And Abijah <029> set <0631> the battle <04421> in array

<0631> with an army <02428> of valiant <01368> men of war

<04421>, [even] four <0702> hundred <03967> thousand <0505>

chosen <0970> men <0376>: Jeroboam <03379> also set the battle

<04421> in array <06186> against <05971> him with eight <08083>

hundred <03967> thousand <0505> chosen <0970> men <0376>,

[being] mighty <01368> men of valour <02428>.

4 And Abijah <029> stood <06965> up upon mount <02022> Zemaraim

<06787>, which <0834> [is] in mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>, and

said <0559>, Hear <08085> me, thou Jeroboam <03379>, and all

<03605> Israel <03478>;

5 Ought ye not to know <03045> that the LORD <03068> God <0430>

of Israel <03478> gave <05414> the kingdom <04467> over <05921>

Israel <03478> to David <01732> for ever <05769>, [even] to him

and to his sons <01121> by a covenant <01285> of salt <04417>?

6 Yet Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, the

servant <05650> of Solomon <08010> the son <01121> of David

<01732>, is risen <06965> up, and hath rebelled <04775> against

<05921> his lord <0113>.

7 And there are gathered <06908> unto him vain <07386> men

<0582>, the children <01121> of Belial <01100>, and have

strengthened <0553> themselves against <05921> Rehoboam <07346>

the son <01121> of Solomon <08010>, when Rehoboam <07346> was

young <05288> and tenderhearted, and could not withstand <02388>

them.

8 And now <06258> ye think <0559> to withstand <02388> the

kingdom <04467> of the LORD <03068> in the hand <03027> of the

sons <01121> of David <01732>; and ye [be] a great <07227>

multitude <01995>, and [there are] with you golden <02091>

calves <05695>, which <0834> Jeroboam <03379> made <06213> you

for gods <0430>.

9 Have ye not cast <05080> out the priests <03548> of the LORD

<03068>, the sons <01121> of Aaron <0175>, and the Levites

<03881>, and have made <06213> you priests <03548> after the

manner of the nations <05971> of [other] lands <0776>? so that

whosoever <03605> cometh <0935> to consecrate himself <03027>

with a young bullock <06499> and seven <07651> rams <0352>, [the

same] may be a priest <03548> of [them that are] no <03808> gods

<0430>.

10 But as for us, the LORD <03068> [is] our God <0430>, and we

have not forsaken <05800> him; and the priests <03548>, which

minister <08334> unto the LORD <03068>, [are] the sons <01121>

of Aaron <0175>, and the Levites <03881> [wait] upon [their]

business <04399>:

11 And they burn <06999> unto the LORD <03068> every morning

<01242> and every evening <06153> burnt <05930> sacrifices and

sweet <05561> incense <07004>: the shewbread also [set they in

order] upon the pure <02889> table <07979>; and the candlestick

<04501> of gold <02091> with the lamps <05216> thereof, to burn

<01197> every evening <06153>: for we keep <08104> the charge

<04931> of the LORD <03068> our God <0430>; but ye have forsaken

<05800> him.

12 And, behold <02009>, God <0430> himself [is] with us for

[our] captain <07218>, and his priests <03548> with sounding

<08643> trumpets <02689> to cry <07321> alarm <07321> against

<05921> you. O children <01121> of Israel <03478>, fight <03898>

ye not against <05973> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of your

fathers <01>; for ye shall not prosper <06743>.

 13. But Jeroboam <03379> caused an ambushment <03993> to come

<0935> about <05437> behind <0310> them: so they were before

<06440> Judah <03063>, and the ambushment <03993> [was] behind

<0310> them.

14 And when Judah <03063> looked <06437> back <06437>, behold

<02009>, the battle <04421> [was] before <06440> and behind

<0268>: and they cried <06817> unto the LORD <03068>, and the

priests <03548> sounded <02690> with the trumpets <02689>.

 15 Then the men <0376> of Judah <03063> gave a shout <07321>:

and as the men <0376> of Judah <03063> shouted <07321>, it came

<01961> to pass, that God <0430> smote <05062> Jeroboam <03379>

and all <03605> Israel <03478> before <06440> Abijah <029> and

Judah <03063>.

16 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> fled <05127>

before <06440> Judah <03063>: and God <0430> delivered <05414>

them into their hand <03027>.

17 And Abijah <029> and his people <05971> slew <05221> them

with a great <07227> slaughter <04347>: so there fell <05307>

down slain <02491> of Israel <03478> five <02568> hundred

<03967> thousand <0505> chosen <0970> men <0376>.

18 Thus the children <01121> of Israel <03478> were brought

<03665> under at that time <06256>, and the children <01121> of

Judah <03063> prevailed <0553>, because <03588> they relied

<08172> upon the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>.

 19 And Abijah <029> pursued <07291> after <0310> Jeroboam

<03379>, and took <03920> cities <05892> from him, Bethel

<01008> with the towns <01323> thereof, and Jeshanah <03466>

with the towns <01323> thereof, and Ephrain <06085> with the

towns <01323> thereof.

 20 Neither <03808> did Jeroboam <03379> recover <06113>

strength <03581> again <05750> in the days <03117> of Abijah

<029>: and the LORD <03068> struck <05062> him, and he died

<04191>.

21 But Abijah <029> waxed mighty <02388>, and married <05375>

fourteen wives <0802>, and begat <03205> twenty <06242> and two

<08147> sons <01121>, and sixteen daughters <01121>.

22 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Abijah <029>,

and his ways <01870>, and his sayings <01697>, [are] written

<03789> in the story <04097> of the prophet <05030> Iddo <05714>.

2Chronicles 14

 1. So Abijah <029> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

they buried <06912> him in the city <05892> of David <01732>:

and Asa <0609> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>. In his days <03117> the land <0776> was quiet <08252>

ten <06235> years <08141>.

2 And Asa <0609> did <06213> [that which was] good <02896> and

right <03477> in the eyes <05869> of the LORD <03068> his God

<0430>:

3 For he took <05493> away <05493> the altars <04196> of the

strange <05236> [gods], and the high <01116> places, and brake

<07665> down the images <04676>, and cut <01438> down the groves

<0842>:

4 And commanded <0559> Judah <03063> to seek <01875> the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>, and to do <06213> the

law <08451> and the commandment <04687>.

5 Also he took <05493> away <05493> out of all <03605> the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063> the high <01116> places and the

images: and the kingdom <04467> was quiet <08252> before <06440>

him.

6 And he built <01129> fenced <04694> cities <05892> in Judah

<03063>: for the land <0776> had rest <08252>, and he had no

<0369> war <04421> in those <0428> years <08141>; because

<03588> the LORD <03068> had given him rest <05117>.

7 Therefore he said <0559> unto Judah <03063>, Let us build

<01129> these <0428> cities <05892>, and make about <05437>

[them] walls <02346>, and towers <04026>, gates <01817>, and

bars <01280>, [while] the land <0776> [is] yet <05750> before

<06440> us; because <03588> we have sought <01875> the LORD

<03068> our God <0430>, we have sought <01875> [him], and he

hath given us rest <05117> on every <05437> side <05439>. So

they built <01129> and prospered <06743>.

8 And Asa <0609> had <01961> an army <02428> [of men] that bare

<05375> targets <06793> and spears <07420>, out of Judah <03063>

three <07969> hundred <03967> thousand <0505>; and out of

Benjamin <01144>, that bare <05375> shields <04043> and drew

<01869> bows <07198>, two hundred <03967> and fourscore <08084>

thousand <0505>: all <03605> these <0428> [were] mighty <01368>

men of valour <02428>.

 9. And there came out against <0413> them Zerah <02226> the

Ethiopian <03569> with an host <02428> of a thousand <0505>

thousand <0505>, and three <07969> hundred <03967> chariots

<04818>; and came unto Mareshah <04762>.

10 Then Asa <0609> went <03318> out against <06440> him, and

they set the battle <04421> in array <06186> in the valley

<01516> of Zephathah at Mareshah <04762>.

11 And Asa <0609> cried <07121> unto the LORD <03068> his God

<0430>, and said <0559>, LORD <03068>, [it is] nothing with thee

to help <05826>, whether <0996> with many <07227>, or with them

that have no <0369> power <03581>: help <05826> us, O LORD

<03068> our God <0430>; for we rest <08172> on <05921> thee, and

in thy name <08034> we go <0935> against <05921> this <02088>

multitude <01995>. O LORD <03068>, thou [art] our God <0430>;

let not <0369> man <0582> prevail <06113> against <05973> thee.

12 So the LORD <03068> smote <05062> the Ethiopians <03569>

before <06440> Asa <0609>, and before <06440> Judah <03063>; and

the Ethiopians <03569> fled <05127>.

13 And Asa <0609> and the people <05971> that [were] with him

pursued <07291> them unto Gerar <01642>: and the Ethiopians

<03569> were overthrown <05307>, that they could not recover

<04241> themselves <01992>; for they were destroyed <07665>

before <06440> the LORD <03068>, and before <06440> his host

<04264>; and they carried <05375> away very <03966> much <07235>

spoil <07998>.

14 And they smote <05221> all <03605> the cities <05892> round

<05439> about Gerar <01642>; for the fear <06343> of the LORD

<03068> came <01961> upon them: and they spoiled <0962> all

<03605> the cities <05892>; for there was exceeding <07325> much

<07235> spoil <0961> in them.

15 They smote <05221> also <01571> the tents <0168> of cattle

<0929>, and carried <07617> away <07617> sheep <06629> and

camels <01581> in abundance <07230>, and returned <07725> to

Jerusalem <03389>.

2Chronicles 15

 1. And the Spirit <07307> of God <0430> came <01961> upon

Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of Oded <05752>:

2 And he went <03318> out to meet <06440> Asa <0609>, and said

<0559> unto him, Hear <08085> ye me, Asa <0609>, and all <03605>

Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144>; The LORD <03068> [is] with

you, while ye be with him; and if <0518> ye seek <01875> him, he

will be found <04672> of you; but if <0518> ye forsake <05800>

him, he will forsake <05800> you.

 3 Now for a long <07227> season <03117> Israel <03478> [hath

been] without <03808> the true <0571> God <0430>, and without

<03808> a teaching <03384> priest <03548>, and without <03808>

law <08451>.

4 But when they in their trouble <06862> did turn <07725> unto

the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, and sought

<01245> him, he was found <04672> of them.

5 And in those <01992> times [there was] no <0369> peace

<07965> to him that went <03318> out, nor to him that came

<0935> in, but great <07227> vexations <04103> [were] upon all

<03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the countries <0776>.

6 And nation <01471> was destroyed <03807> of nation <01471>,

and city <05892> of city <05892>: for God <0430> did vex <02000>

them with all <03605> adversity <06869>.

7 Be ye strong <02388> therefore, and let not your hands

<03027> be weak <07503>: for your work <06468> shall be rewarded

<07939>.

 8. And when Asa <0609> heard <08085> these <0428> words <01697>,

and the prophecy <05016> of Oded <05752> the prophet <05030>,

he took courage <02388>, and put <05674> away <05674> the

abominable <08251> idols <08251> out of all <03605> the land

<0776> of Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144>, and out of the

cities <05892> which <0834> he had taken <03920> from mount

<02022> Ephraim <0669>, and renewed <02318> the altar <04196> of

the LORD <03068>, that [was] before <06440> the porch <0197> of

the LORD <03068>.

9 And he gathered <06908> all <03605> Judah <03063> and

Benjamin <01144>, and the strangers <01481> with them out of

Ephraim <0669> and Manasseh <04519>, and out of Simeon <08095>:

for they fell <05307> to him out of Israel <03478> in abundance

<07230>, when they saw <07200> that the LORD <03068> his God

<0430> [was] with him.

10 So they gathered <06908> themselves together at Jerusalem

<03389> in the third <07992> month <02320>, in the fifteenth

<06240> year <08141> of the reign <04438> of Asa <0609>.

11 And they offered <02076> unto the LORD <03068> the same

<01931> time <03117>, of the spoil <07998> [which] they had

brought <0935>, seven <07651> hundred <03967> oxen <01241> and

seven <07651> thousand <0505> sheep <06629>.

12 And they entered <0935> into a covenant <01285> to seek

<01875> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01> with

all <03605> their heart <03824> and with all <03605> their soul

<05315>;

13 That whosoever <03605> would not seek <01875> the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> should be put to death

<04191>, whether <04480> small <06996> or <05704> great <01419>,

whether man <0376> or <05704> woman <0802>.

14 And they sware <07650> unto the LORD <03068> with a loud

<01419> voice <06963>, and with shouting <08643>, and with

trumpets <02689>, and with cornets <07782>.

 15 And all <03605> Judah <03063> rejoiced <08055> at <05921>

the oath <07621>: for they had sworn <07650> with all <03605>

their heart <03824>, and sought <01245> him with their whole

<03605> desire <07522>; and he was found <04672> of them: and

the LORD <03068> gave them rest <05117> round <05439> about.

16 And also <01571> [concerning] Maachah <04601> the mother

<0517> of Asa <0609> the king <04428>, he removed <05493> her

from [being] queen <01377>, because <0834> she had made <06213>

an idol <04656> in a grove <0842>: and Asa <0609> cut <03772>

down her idol <04656>, and stamped <01854> [it], and burnt

<08313> [it] at the brook <05158> Kidron <06939>.

17 But the high <01116> places were not taken <05493> away

<05493> out of Israel <03478>: nevertheless <07535> the heart

<03824> of Asa <0609> was perfect <08003> all <03605> his days

<03117>.

18 And he brought <0935> into the house <01004> of God <0430>

the things that his father <025> had dedicated <06944>, and that

he himself had dedicated <06944>, silver <03701>, and gold

<02091>, and vessels <03627>.

19 And there was no <03808> [more] war <04421> unto the five

<02568> and thirtieth <07970> year <08141> of the reign <04438>

of Asa <0609>.

2Chronicles 16

 1. In the six <08337> and thirtieth <07970> year <08141> of the

reign <04438> of Asa <0609> Baasha <01201> king <04428> of

Israel <03478> came <05927> up against <05921> Judah <03063>,

and built <01129> Ramah <07414>, to the intent that he might let

<05414> none <01115> go <03318> out or come <0935> in to Asa

<0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063>.

2 Then Asa <0609> brought <03318> out silver <03701> and gold

<02091> out of the treasures <0214> of the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068> and of the king's <04428> house <01004>, and sent

<07971> to Benhadad <01130> king <04428> of Syria <0758>, that

dwelt <03427> at Damascus <01834>, saying <0559>,

3 [There is] a league <01285> between <0996> me and thee, as

[there was] between <0996> my father <025> and thy father <025>:

behold <02009>, I have sent <07971> thee silver <03701> and gold

<02091>; go <03212>, break <06565> thy league <01285> with

Baasha <01201> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, that he may

depart <05927> from me.

4 And Benhadad <01130> hearkened <08085> unto king <04428> Asa

<0609>, and sent <07971> the captains <08269> of his armies

<02428> against <0413> the cities <05892> of Israel <03478>; and

they smote <05221> Ijon <05859>, and Dan <01835>, and Abelmaim

<066>, and all <03605> the store <04543> cities <05892> of

Naphtali <05321>.

5 And it came <01961> to pass, when Baasha <01201> heard

<08085> [it], that he left <02308> off building <01129> of Ramah

<07414>, and let his work <04399> cease <07673>.

 6 Then Asa <0609> the king <04428> took <03947> all <03605>

Judah <03063>; and they carried <05375> away the stones <068> of

Ramah <07414>, and the timber <06086> thereof, wherewith <0834>

Baasha <01201> was building <01129>; and he built <01129>

therewith Geba <01387> and Mizpah <04709>.

 7. And at that time <06256> Hanani <02607> the seer <07200>

came <0935> to Asa <0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and

said <0559> unto him, Because thou hast relied <08172> on

<05921> the king <04428> of Syria <0758>, and not relied <08172>

on <05921> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, therefore is the

host <02428> of the king <04428> of Syria <0758> escaped <04422>

out of thine hand <03027>.

8 Were not the Ethiopians <03569> and the Lubims <03864> a huge

<07230> host <02428>, with very <03966> many <07235> chariots

<07393> and horsemen <06571>? yet, because thou didst rely

<08172> on <05921> the LORD <03068>, he delivered <05414> them

into thine hand <03027>.

9 For the eyes <05869> of the LORD <03068> run <07751> to and

fro <07751> throughout the whole <03605> earth <0776>, to shew

himself strong <02388> in the behalf <05973> of [them] whose

heart <03824> [is] perfect <08003> toward <0413> him. Herein

thou hast done foolishly <05528>: therefore from henceforth

<06258> thou shalt have <03426> wars <04421>.

10 Then Asa <0609> was wroth <03707> with the seer <07200>, and

put <05414> him in a prison <04115> house <01004>; for [he was]

in a rage <02197> with him because <05921> of this <02063>

[thing]. And Asa <0609> oppressed <07533> [some] of the people

<05971> the same <01931> time <06256>.

11 And, behold <02009>, the acts <01697> of Asa <0609>, first

<07223> and last <0314>, lo <02009>, they [are] written <03789>

in the book <05612> of the kings <04428> of Judah <03063> and

Israel <03478>.

12 And Asa <0609> in the thirty <07970> and ninth <08672> year

<08141> of his reign <04438> was diseased <02470> in his feet

<07272>, until <05704> his disease <02483> [was] exceeding

<04605> [great]: yet <01571> in his disease <02483> he sought

<01875> not to the LORD <03068>, but to the physicians <07495>.

13 And Asa <0609> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and died

<04191> in the one <0259> and fortieth <0705> year <08141> of

his reign <04427>.

14 And they buried <06912> him in his own sepulchres <06913>,

which <0834> he had made <03738> for himself in the city <05892>

of David <01732>, and laid <07901> him in the bed <04904> which

<0834> was filled <04390> with sweet <01314> odours <01314> and

divers kinds <02177> [of spices] prepared <07543> by the

apothecaries <04842>' art <04640>: and they made a very <03966>

great <01419> burning <08316> for him.

2Chronicles 17

 1. And Jehoshaphat <03092> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in

his stead <08478>, and strengthened <02388> himself against

<05921> Israel <03478>.

2 And he placed <05414> forces <02428> in all <03605> the

fenced <01219> cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and set <05414>

garrisons <05333> in the land <0776> of Judah <03063>, and in

the cities <05892> of Ephraim <0669>, which <0834> Asa <0609>

his father <025> had taken <03920>.

3 And the LORD <03068> was with Jehoshaphat <03092>, because

<03588> he walked <01980> in the first <07223> ways <01870> of

his father <025> David <01732>, and sought <01875> not unto

Baalim <01168>;

4 But sought <01875> to the [LORD <03068>] God <0430> of his

father <025>, and walked <01980> in his commandments <04687>,

and not after <0310> the doings <04640> of Israel <03478>.

5 Therefore the LORD <03068> stablished <03559> the kingdom

<04467> in his hand <03027>; and all <03605> Judah <03063>

brought <05414> to Jehoshaphat <03092> presents <04503>; and he

had <01961> riches <06239> and honour <03519> in abundance

<07230>.

6 And his heart <03820> was lifted <01361> up in the ways

<01870> of the LORD <03068>: moreover <05750> he took away

<05493> the high <01116> places and groves <0842> out of Judah

<03063>.

7 Also in the third <07969> year <08141> of his reign <04427>

he sent <07971> to his princes <08269>, [even] to Benhail

<01134>, and to Obadiah <05662>, and to Zechariah <02148>, and

to Nethaneel <05417>, and to Michaiah <04322>, to teach <03925>

in the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>.

8 And with them [he sent] Levites <03881>, [even] Shemaiah

<08098>, and Nethaniah <05418>, and Zebadiah <02069>, and Asahel

<06214>, and Shemiramoth <08070>, and Jehonathan <03083>, and

Adonijah <0138>, and Tobijah <02900>, and Tobadonijah <02899>,

Levites <03881>; and with them Elishama <0476> and Jehoram

<03088>, priests <03548>.

9 And they taught <03925> in Judah <03063>, and [had] the book

<05612> of the law <08451> of the LORD <03068> with them, and

went <05437> about <05437> throughout all <03605> the cities

<05892> of Judah <03063>, and taught <03925> the people <05971>.

 10. And the fear <06343> of the LORD <03068> fell <01961> upon

all <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the lands <0776> that [were]

round <05439> about Judah <03063>, so that they made no <03808>

war <03898> against <05973> Jehoshaphat <03092>.

11 Also [some] of the Philistines <06430> brought <0935>

Jehoshaphat <03092> presents <04503>, and tribute <04853> silver

<03701>; and the Arabians <06163> brought <0935> him flocks

<06629>, seven <07651> thousand <0505> and seven <07651> hundred

<03967> rams <0352>, and seven <07651> thousand <0505> and seven

<07651> hundred <03967> he goats <08495>.

 12 And Jehoshaphat <03092> waxed <01980> great <01432>

exceedingly <04605>; and he built <01129> in Judah <03063>

castles <01003>, and cities <05892> of store <04543>.

13 And he had <01961> much <07227> business <04399> in the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063>: and the men <0582> of war

<04421>, mighty <01368> men of valour <02428>, [were] in

Jerusalem <03389>.

14 And these <0428> [are] the numbers <06486> of them according

to the house <01004> of their fathers <01>: Of Judah <03063>,

the captains <08269> of thousands <0505>; Adnah <05734> the

chief <08269>, and with him mighty <01368> men of valour <02428>

three <07969> hundred <03967> thousand <0505>.

15 And next to him [was] Jehohanan <03076> the captain <08269>,

and with him two hundred <03967> and fourscore <08084> thousand

<0505>.

16 And next him [was] Amasiah <06007> the son <01121> of Zichri

<02147>, who willingly <05068> offered himself unto the LORD

<03068>; and with him two hundred <03967> thousand <0505> mighty

<01368> men of valour <02428>.

 17 And of Benjamin <01144>; Eliada <0450> a mighty <01368> man

of valour <02428>, and with him armed <05401> men with bow

<07198> and shield <04043> two hundred <03967> thousand <0505>.

18 And next him [was] Jehozabad <03075>, and with him an

hundred <03967> and fourscore <08084> thousand <0505> ready

prepared <02502> for the war <06635>.

19 These <0428> waited <08334> on the king <04428>, beside

<0905> [those] whom <0834> the king <04428> put <05414> in the

fenced <04013> cities <05892> throughout all <03605> Judah

<03063>.

2Chronicles 18

 1. Now Jehoshaphat <03092> had <01961> riches <06239> and

honour <03519> in abundance <07230>, and joined <02859> affinity

<02859> with Ahab <0256>.

2 And after <07093> [certain] years <08141> he went <03381>

down <03381> to Ahab <0256> to Samaria <08111>. And Ahab <0256>

killed <03076> sheep <06629> and oxen <01241> for him in

abundance <07230>, and for the people <05971> that [he had] with

him, and persuaded <05496> him to go <05927> up [with him] to

Ramothgilead <07433>.

 3 And Ahab <0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559>

unto Jehoshaphat <03092> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, Wilt

thou go <03212> with me to Ramothgilead <07433>? And he answered

<0559> him, I [am] as thou [art], and my people <05971> as thy

people <05971>; and [we will be] with thee in the war <04421>.

 4. And Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559> unto the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>, Enquire <01875>, I pray <04994> thee, at the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068> to day <03117>.

5 Therefore the king <04428> of Israel <03478> gathered <06908>

together of prophets <05030> four <0702> hundred <03967> men

<0376>, and said <0559> unto them, Shall we go <03212> to

Ramothgilead <07433> to battle <04421>, or shall I forbear

<02308>? And they said <0559>, Go <05927> up; for God <0430>

will deliver <05414> [it] into the king's <04428> hand <03027>.

6 But Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559>, [Is there] not here a

prophet <05030> of the LORD <03068> besides <05750>, that we

might enquire <01875> of him?

7 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto

Jehoshaphat <03092>, [There is] yet <05750> one <0259> man

<0376>, by whom we may enquire <01875> of the LORD <03068>: but

I hate <08130> him; for he never <0369> prophesied <05012> good

<02896> unto me, but always evil <07451>: the same <01931> [is]

Micaiah <04321> the son <01121> of Imla <03229>. And Jehoshaphat

<03092> said <0559>, Let not the king <04428> say <0559> so

<03651>.

8 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> called <07121> for one

<0259> [of his] officers <05631>, and said <0559>, Fetch quickly

<04116> Micaiah <04319> the son <01121> of Imla <03229>.

9 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> and Jehoshaphat

<03092> king <04428> of Judah <03063> sat <03427> either <0376>

of them on <05921> his throne <03678>, clothed <03847> in

[their] robes <0899>, and they sat <03427> in a void <01637>

place at the entering <06607> in of the gate <08179> of Samaria

<08111>; and all <03605> the prophets <05030> prophesied <05012>

before <06440> them.

10 And Zedekiah <06667> the son <01121> of Chenaanah <03668>

had made <06213> him horns <07161> of iron <01270>, and said

<0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, With these

<0428> thou shalt push <05055> Syria <0758> until <05704> they

be consumed <03615>.

11 And all <03605> the prophets <05030> prophesied <05012> so

<03651>, saying <0559>, Go <05927> up to Ramothgilead <07433>,

and prosper <06743>: for the LORD <03068> shall deliver <05414>

[it] into the hand <03027> of the king <04428>.

12 And the messenger <04397> that went <01980> to call <07121>

Micaiah <04321> spake <01696> to him, saying <0559>, Behold

<02009>, the words <01697> of the prophets <05030> [declare]

good <02896> to the king <04428> with one <0259> assent <06310>;

let thy word <01697> therefore, I pray <04994> thee, be like one

<0259> of theirs <01992>, and speak <01696> thou good <02896>.

13 And Micaiah <04321> said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068>

liveth <02416>, even <03588> what my God <0430> saith <0559>,

that will I speak <01696>.

14 And when he was come <0935> to the king <04428>, the king

<04428> said <0559> unto him, Micaiah <04318>, shall we go

<03212> to Ramothgilead <07433> to battle <04421>, or shall I

forbear <02308>? And he said <0559>, Go <05927> ye up, and

prosper <06743>, and they shall be delivered <05414> into your

hand <03027>.

15 And the king <04428> said <0559> to him, How <05704> many

times <06471> shall I adjure <07650> thee that thou say <0559>

nothing <03808> but the truth <0571> to me in the name <08034>

of the LORD <03068>?

 16 Then he said <0559>, I did see <07200> all <03605> Israel

<03478> scattered <06327> upon the mountains <02022>, as sheep

<06629> that have no <0369> shepherd <07462>: and the LORD

<03068> said <0559>, These <0428> have no <03808> master <0113>;

let them return <07725> [therefore] every man <0376> to his

house <01004> in peace <07965>.

17 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> to

Jehoshaphat <03092>, Did I not tell <0559> thee [that] he would

not prophesy <05012> good <02896> unto me, but evil <07451>?

18 Again he said <0559>, Therefore <03651> hear <08085> the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068>; I saw <07200> the LORD <03068>

sitting <03427> upon his throne <03678>, and all <03605> the

host <06635> of heaven <08064> standing <05975> on his right

<03225> hand and [on <05921>] his left <08040>.

19 And the LORD <03068> said <0559>, Who <04310> shall entice

<06601> Ahab <0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, that he may

go <05927> up and fall <05307> at Ramothgilead <07433>? And one

spake <0559> saying <0559> after <03602> this <03602> manner

<03541>, and another <02088> saying <0559> after <03602> that

manner.

20 Then there came <03318> out a spirit <07307>, and stood

<05975> before <06440> the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>, I will

entice <06601> him. And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him,

Wherewith <04100>?

21 And he said <0559>, I will go <03318> out, and be a lying

<08267> spirit <07307> in the mouth <06310> of all <03605> his

prophets <05030>. And [the LORD] said <0559>, Thou shalt entice

<06601> [him], and thou shalt also <01571> prevail <03201>: go

<03318> out, and do <06213> [even] so <03651>.

22 Now <06258> therefore, behold <02009>, the LORD <03068> hath

put <05414> a lying <08267> spirit <07307> in the mouth <06310>

of these <0428> thy prophets <05030>, and the LORD <03068> hath

spoken <01696> evil <07451> against <05921> thee.

23 Then Zedekiah <06667> the son <01121> of Chenaanah <03668>

came <05066> near <05066>, and smote <05221> Micaiah <04321>

upon the cheek <03895>, and said <0559>, Which way <01870> went

<05674> the Spirit <07307> of the LORD <03068> from me to speak

<01696> unto thee?

24 And Micaiah <04321> said <0559>, Behold <02009>, thou shalt

see <07200> on that day <03117> when <0834> thou shalt go <0935>

into an inner <02315> chamber <02315> to hide <02244> thyself.

25 Then the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559>, Take

<03947> ye Micaiah <04321>, and carry <07725> him back <07725>

to Amon <0526> the governor <08269> of the city <05892>, and to

Joash <03101> the king's <04428> son <01121>;

 26 And say <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the king <04428>,

Put <07760> this <02088> [fellow] in the prison, and feed <0398>

him with bread <03899> of affliction <03905> and with water

<04325> of affliction <03905>, until <05704> I return <07725> in

peace <07965>.

27 And Micaiah <04321> said <0559>, If <0518> thou certainly

return <07725> in peace <07965>, [then] hath not the LORD

<03068> spoken <01696> by me. And he said <0559>, Hearken

<08085>, all <03605> ye people <05971>.

 28. So the king <04428> of Israel <03478> and Jehoshaphat

<03092> the king <04428> of Judah <03063> went <05927> up to

Ramothgilead <07433>.

29 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto

Jehoshaphat <03092>, I will disguise <02664> myself, and will go

<0935> to the battle <04421>; but put <03847> thou on thy robes

<0899>. So the king <04428> of Israel <03478> disguised <02664>

himself; and they went <0935> to the battle <04421>.

30 Now the king <04428> of Syria <0758> had commanded <06680>

the captains <08269> of the chariots <07393> that [were] with

him, saying <0559>, Fight <03898> ye not with small <06996> or

<0854> great <01419>, save only <0905> with the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>.

31 And it came <01961> to pass, when the captains <08269> of

the chariots <07393> saw <07200> Jehoshaphat <03092>, that they

said <0559>, It [is] the king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

Therefore they compassed <05437> about him to fight <03898>: but

Jehoshaphat <03092> cried <02199> out, and the LORD <03068>

helped <05826> him; and God <0430> moved <05496> them [to

depart] from him.

32 For it came <01961> to pass, that, when the captains <08269>

of the chariots <07393> perceived <07200> that it was not the

king <04428> of Israel <03478>, they turned <07725> back <07725>

again <07725> from pursuing <0310> him.

 33 And a [certain] man drew <04900> a bow <07198> at a venture

<08537>, and smote <05221> the king <04428> of Israel <03478>

between <0996> the joints <01694> of the harness <08302>:

therefore he said <0559> to his chariot <07395> man <0376>, Turn

<02015> thine hand <03027>, that thou mayest carry <03318> me

out of the host <06635>; for I am wounded <02470>.

34 And the battle <04421> increased <05927> that day <03117>:

howbeit the king <04428> of Israel <03478> stayed <05975>

[himself] up in [his] chariot <04818> against <05227> the

Syrians <0758> until <05704> the even <06153>: and about the

time <06256> of the sun <08121> going <0935> down he died

<04191>.

2Chronicles 19

 1. And Jehoshaphat <03092> the king <04428> of Judah <03063>

returned <07725> to his house <01004> in peace <07965> to

Jerusalem <03389>.

2 And Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Hanani <02607> the seer

<02374> went <03318> out to meet <06440> him, and said <0559> to

king <04428> Jehoshaphat <03092>, Shouldest thou help <05826>

the ungodly <07563>, and love <0157> them that hate <08130> the

LORD <03068>? therefore <02063> [is] wrath <07110> upon thee

from before <06440> the LORD <03068>.

 3 Nevertheless <061> there are good <02896> things <01697>

found <04672> in thee, in that thou hast taken <01197> away

<01197> the groves <0842> out of the land <0776>, and hast

prepared <03559> thine heart <03824> to seek <01875> God <0430>.

 4 And Jehoshaphat <03092> dwelt <03427> at Jerusalem <03389>:

and he went <03318> out again <07725> through the people <05971>

from Beersheba <0884> to mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>, and

brought <07725> them back <07725> unto the LORD <03068> God

<0430> of their fathers <01>.

 5. And he set <05975> judges <08199> in the land <0776>

throughout all <03605> the fenced <01219> cities <05892> of

Judah <03063>, city <05892> by city <05892>,

6 And said <0559> to the judges <08199>, Take <07200> heed

<07200> what <04100> ye do <06213>: for ye judge <08199> not for

man <0120>, but for the LORD <03068>, who [is] with you in the

judgment.

7 Wherefore now <06258> let the fear <06343> of the LORD

<03068> be upon you; take heed <08104> and do <06213> [it]: for

[there is] no <0369> iniquity <05766> with the LORD <03068> our

God <0430>, nor respect <04856> of persons <06440>, nor taking

<04727> of gifts <07810>.

 8 Moreover <01571> in Jerusalem <03389> did Jehoshaphat <03092>

set <05975> of the Levites <03881>, and [of] the priests <03548>,

and of the chief <07218> of the fathers <01> of Israel <03478>,

for the judgment <04941> of the LORD <03068>, and for

controversies <07379>, when they returned <07725> to Jerusalem

<03389>.

9 And he charged <06680> them, saying <0559>, Thus <03541>

shall ye do <06213> in the fear <03374> of the LORD <03068>,

faithfully <0530>, and with a perfect <08003> heart <03824>.

10 And what <03602> cause <07379> soever shall come <0935> to

you of your brethren <0251> that dwell <03427> in their cities

<05892>, between <0996> blood <01818> and blood <01818>, between

<0996> law <08451> and commandment <04687>, statutes <02706> and

judgments <04941>, ye shall even warn <02094> them that they

trespass <0816> not against the LORD <03068>, and [so] wrath

<07110> come <01961> upon you, and upon your brethren <0251>:

this <03541> do <06213>, and ye shall not trespass <0816>.

11 And, behold <02009>, Amariah <0568> the chief <07218> priest

<03548> [is] over <05921> you in all <03605> matters <01697> of

the LORD <03068>; and Zebadiah <02069> the son <01121> of

Ishmael <03458>, the ruler <05057> of the house <01004> of Judah

<03063>, for all <03605> the king's <04428> matters <01697>:

also the Levites <03881> [shall be] officers <07860> before

<06440> you. Deal <06213> courageously <02388>, and the LORD

<03068> shall be with the good <02896>.

2Chronicles 20

 1. It came <01961> to pass after <0310> this <03651> also,

[that] the children <01121> of Moab <04124>, and the children

<01121> of Ammon <05983>, and with them [other] beside the

Ammonites <05984>, came <0935> against <05921> Jehoshaphat

<03092> to battle <04421>.

2 Then there came <0935> some that told <05046> Jehoshaphat

<03092>, saying <0559>, There cometh <0935> a great <01419>

multitude <01995> against <05921> thee from beyond <05676> the

sea <03220> on this side Syria <0758>; and, behold <02009>, they

[be] in Hazazontamar <02688>, which <01958> [is] Engedi <05872>.

 3 And Jehoshaphat <03092> feared <03372>, and set <05414>

himself <06440> to seek <01875> the LORD <03068>, and proclaimed

<07121> a fast <06685> throughout <05921> all <03605> Judah

<03063>.

4 And Judah <03063> gathered <06908> themselves together, to

ask <01245> [help] of the LORD <03068>: even <01571> out of all

<03605> the cities <05892> of Judah <03063> they came <0935> to

seek <01245> the LORD <03068>.

5 And Jehoshaphat <03092> stood <05975> in the congregation

<06951> of Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, in the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>, before <06440> the new <02319>

court <02691>,

 6 And said <0559>, O LORD <03068> God <0430> of our fathers

<01>, [art] not thou God <0430> in heaven <08064>? and rulest

<04910> [not] thou over all the kingdoms <04467> of the heathen

<01471>? and in thine hand <03027> [is there not] power <03581>

and might <01369>, so that none <0369> is able to withstand

<03320> thee?

7 [Art] not thou our God <0430>, [who] didst drive <03423> out

the inhabitants <03427> of this <02063> land <0776> before

<06440> thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, and gavest <05414> it

to the seed <02233> of Abraham <085> thy friend <0157> for ever

<05769>?

8 And they dwelt <03427> therein, and have built <01129> thee a

sanctuary <04720> therein for thy name <08034>, saying <0559>,

9 If <0518>, [when] evil <07451> cometh <0935> upon us, [as]

the sword <02719>, judgment <08196>, or pestilence <01698>, or

famine <07458>, we stand <05975> before <06440> this <02088>

house <01004>, and in thy presence <06440>, (for thy name

<08034> [is] in this <02088> house <01004>,) and cry <02199>

unto thee in our affliction <06869>, then thou wilt hear <08085>

and help <03467>.

10 And now <06258>, behold <02009>, the children <01121> of

Ammon <05983> and Moab <04124> and mount <02022> Seir <08165>,

whom <0834> thou wouldest not let Israel <03478> invade <0935>,

when they came <0935> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>,

but they turned <05493> from them, and destroyed <08045> them

not;

11 Behold <02009>, [I say, how] they reward <01580> us, to come

<0935> to cast <01644> us out of thy possession <03425>, which

<0834> thou hast given us to inherit <03423>.

12 O our God <0430>, wilt thou not judge <08199> them? for we

have no <0369> might <03581> against <06440> this <02088> great

<07227> company <01995> that cometh <0935> against <05921> us;

neither <03808> know <03045> we what <04100> to do <06213>: but

our eyes <05869> [are] upon thee.

 13 And all <03605> Judah <03063> stood <05975> before <06440>

the LORD <03068>, with their little <02945> ones, their wives

<0802>, and their children <01121>.

 14. Then upon Jahaziel <03166> the son <01121> of Zechariah

<02148>, the son <01121> of Benaiah <01141>, the son <01121> of

Jeiel <03273>, the son <01121> of Mattaniah <04983>, a Levite

<03881> of the sons <01121> of Asaph <0623>, came <01961> the

Spirit <07307> of the LORD <03068> in the midst <08432> of the

congregation <06951>;

15 And he said <0559>, Hearken <07181> ye, all <03605> Judah

<03063>, and ye inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>, and

thou king <04428> Jehoshaphat <03092>, Thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068> unto you, Be not afraid <03372> nor <0408>

dismayed <02865> by reason <06440> of this <02088> great <07227>

multitude <01995>; for the battle <04421> [is] not yours, but

God's <0430>.

 16 To morrow <04279> go <03381> ye down <03381> against <05921>

them: behold <02009>, they come <05927> up by the cliff <04608>

of Ziz; and ye shall find <04672> them at the end <05490> of the

brook <05158>, before <06440> the wilderness <04057> of Jeruel

<03385>.

17 Ye shall not [need] to fight <03898> in this <02063>

[battle]: set <03320> yourselves, stand <05975> ye [still], and

see <07200> the salvation <03444> of the LORD <03068> with you,

O Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>: fear <03372> not, nor

<0408> be dismayed <02865>; to morrow <04279> go <03318> out

against <06440> them: for the LORD <03068> [will be] with you.

18 And Jehoshaphat <03092> bowed <06915> his head with [his]

face <0639> to the ground <0776>: and all <03605> Judah <03063>

and the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389> fell <05307>

before <06440> the LORD <03068>, worshipping <07812> the LORD

<03068>.

19 And the Levites <03881>, of the children <01121> of the

Kohathites <06956>, and of the children <01121> of the Korhites

<07145>, stood <06965> up to praise <01984> the LORD <03068> God

<0430> of Israel <03478> with a loud <01419> voice <06963> on

high <04605>.

 20. And they rose <07925> early <07925> in the morning <01242>,

and went <03318> forth <03318> into the wilderness <04057> of

Tekoa <08620>: and as they went <03318> forth <03318>,

Jehoshaphat <03092> stood <05975> and said <0559>, Hear <08085>

me, O Judah <03063>, and ye inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem

<03389>; Believe <0539> in the LORD <03068> your God <0430>, so

shall ye be established <0539>; believe <0539> his prophets

<05030>, so shall ye prosper <06743>.

21 And when he had consulted <03289> with the people <05971>,

he appointed <05975> singers <07891> unto the LORD <03068>, and

that should praise <01984> the beauty <01927> of holiness

<06944>, as they went <03318> out before <06440> the army

<02502>, and to say <0559>, Praise <03034> the LORD <03068>; for

his mercy <02617> [endureth] for ever <05769>.

22 And when <06256> they began <02490> to sing <07440> and to

praise <08416>, the LORD <03068> set <05414> ambushments <0693>

against <05921> the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>, Moab

<04124>, and mount <02022> Seir <08165>, which were come <0935>

against Judah <03063>; and they were smitten <05062>.

23 For the children <01121> of Ammon <05983> and Moab <04124>

stood <05975> up against <05921> the inhabitants <03427> of

mount <02022> Seir <08165>, utterly to slay <02763> and destroy

<08045> [them]: and when they had made an end <03615> of the

inhabitants <03427> of Seir <08165>, every <0376> one helped

<05826> to destroy <04889> another <07453>.

24 And when Judah <03063> came <0935> toward <05921> the watch

<04707> tower in the wilderness <04057>, they looked <06437>

unto the multitude <01995>, and, behold <02009>, they [were]

dead <06297> bodies <06297> fallen <05307> to the earth <0776>,

and none <0369> escaped <06413>.

25 And when Jehoshaphat <03092> and his people <05971> came

<0935> to take <0962> away the spoil <07998> of them, they found

<04672> among them in abundance <07230> both riches <07399> with

the dead <06297> bodies <06297>, and precious <02530> jewels

<03627>, which they stripped <05337> off for themselves, more

than they could carry <04853> away: and they were three <07969>

days <03117> in gathering <0962> of the spoil <07998>, it was so

much <07227>.

26 And on the fourth <07243> day <03117> they assembled <06950>

themselves in the valley <06010> of Berachah <01294>; for there

<08033> they blessed <01288> the LORD <03068>: therefore the

name <08034> of the same <01931> place <04725> was called

<07121>, The valley <06010> of Berachah <01294>, unto this

<02088> day <03117>.

27 Then they returned <07725>, every <03605> man <0376> of

Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, and Jehoshaphat <03092> in

the forefront <07218> of them, to go <07725> again <07725> to

Jerusalem <03389> with joy <08057>; for the LORD <03068> had

made them to rejoice <08055> over their enemies <0341>.

28 And they came <0935> to Jerusalem <03389> with psalteries

<05035> and harps <03658> and trumpets <02689> unto the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>.

29 And the fear <06343> of God <0430> was on <05921> all

<03605> the kingdoms <04467> of [those] countries <0776>, when

they had heard <08085> that the LORD <03068> fought <03898>

against <05973> the enemies <0341> of Israel <03478>.

30 So the realm <04438> of Jehoshaphat <03092> was quiet

<08252>: for his God <0430> gave him rest <05117> round <05439>

about.

 31. And Jehoshaphat <03092> reigned <04427> over <05921> Judah

<03063>: [he was] thirty <07970> and five <02568> years <08141>

old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned

<04427> twenty <06242> and five <02568> years <08141> in

Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was]

Azubah <05806> the daughter <01323> of Shilhi <07977>.

32 And he walked <03212> in the way <01870> of Asa <0609> his

father <025>, and departed <05493> not from it, doing <06213>

[that which was] right <03477> in the sight <05869> of the LORD

<03068>.

33 Howbeit the high <01116> places were not taken <05493> away

<05493>: for as yet <05750> the people <05971> had not prepared

<03559> their hearts <03824> unto the God <0430> of their

fathers <01>.

34 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jehoshaphat

<03092>, first <07223> and last <0314>, behold <02009>, they

[are] written <03789> in the book <01697> of Jehu <03058> the

son <01121> of Hanani <02607>, who <0834> [is] mentioned <05927>

in the book <05612> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>.

35 And after <0310> this <03651> did Jehoshaphat <03092> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> join <02266> himself with Ahaziah

<0274> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, who <01931> did <06213>

very wickedly <07561>:

36 And he joined <02266> himself with him to make <06213> ships

<0591> to go <03212> to Tarshish <08659>: and they made <06213>

the ships <0591> in Eziongeber <06100>.

37 Then Eliezer <0461> the son <01121> of Dodavah <01735> of

Mareshah <04762> prophesied <05012> against <05921> Jehoshaphat

<03092>, saying <0559>, Because thou hast joined <02266> thyself

with Ahaziah <0274>, the LORD <03068> hath broken <06555> thy

works <04639>. And the ships <0591> were broken <07665>, that

they were not able <06113> to go <03212> to Tarshish <08659>.

2Chronicles 21

 1. Now Jehoshaphat <03092> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>,

and was buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892>

of David <01732>. And Jehoram <03088> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

2 And he had brethren <0251> the sons <01121> of Jehoshaphat

<03092>, Azariah <05838>, and Jehiel <03171>, and Zechariah

<02148>, and Azariah <05838>, and Michael <04317>, and

Shephatiah <08203>: all <03605> these <0428> [were] the sons

<01121> of Jehoshaphat <03092> king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

3 And their father <025> gave <05414> them great <07227> gifts

<04979> of silver <03701>, and of gold <02091>, and of precious

<04030> things, with fenced <04694> cities <05892> in Judah

<03063>: but the kingdom <04467> gave <05414> he to Jehoram

<03088>; because <03588> he [was] the firstborn <01060>.

4 Now when Jehoram <03088> was risen <06965> up to the kingdom

<04467> of his father <025>, he strengthened <02388> himself,

and slew <02026> all <03605> his brethren <0251> with the sword

<02719>, and [divers] also <01571> of the princes <08269> of

Israel <03478>.

5 Jehoram <03088> [was] thirty <07970> and two <08147> years

<08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he

reigned <04427> eight <08083> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>.

6 And he walked <03212> in the way <01870> of the kings <04428>

of Israel <03478>, like as did <06213> the house <01004> of Ahab

<0256>: for he had <01961> the daughter <01323> of Ahab <0256>

to wife <0802>: and he wrought <06213> [that which was] evil

<07451> in the eyes <05869> of the LORD <03068>.

7 Howbeit the LORD <03068> would <014> not destroy <07843> the

house <01004> of David <01732>, because <03282> of the covenant

<01285> that he had made <03772> with David <01732>, and as he

promised <0559> to give <05414> a light <05216> to him and to

his sons <01121> for ever.

8 In his days <03117> the Edomites <0130> revolted <06586> from

under <08478> the dominion <03027> of Judah <03063>, and made

themselves <01992> a king <04428>.

9 Then Jehoram <03088> went <05674> forth <05674> with his

princes <08269>, and all <03605> his chariots <07393> with him:

and he rose <06965> up by night <03915>, and smote <05221> the

Edomites <0130> which compassed <05437> him in, and the captains

<08269> of the chariots <07393>.

10 So the Edomites <0130> revolted <06586> from under <08478>

the hand <03027> of Judah <03063> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

The same <01931> time <06256> [also] did Libnah <03841> revolt

<06586> from under <08478> his hand <03027>; because <03588> he

had forsaken <05800> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of his fathers

<01>.

11 Moreover <01571> he made <06213> high <01116> places in the

mountains <02022> of Judah <03063>, and caused the inhabitants

<03427> of Jerusalem <03389> to commit <02181> fornication

<02181>, and compelled <05080> Judah <03063> [thereto].

 12. And there came <0935> a writing <04385> to him from Elijah

<0452> the prophet <05030>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of David <01732> thy father

<025>, Because thou hast not walked <01980> in the ways <01870>

of Jehoshaphat <03092> thy father <025>, nor in the ways <01870>

of Asa <0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063>,

13 But hast walked <03212> in the way <01870> of the kings

<04428> of Israel <03478>, and hast made Judah <03063> and the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389> to go a whoring <02181>,

like to the whoredoms <02181> of the house <01004> of Ahab

<0256>, and also <01571> hast slain <02026> thy brethren <0251>

of thy father's <01> house <01004>, [which were] better <02896>

than thyself:

 14 Behold <02009>, with a great <01419> plague <04046> will the

LORD <03068> smite <05062> thy people <05971>, and thy children

<01121>, and thy wives <0802>, and all <03605> thy goods <07399>:

15 And thou [shalt have] great <07227> sickness <02483> by

disease <04245> of thy bowels <04578>, until <05704> thy bowels

<04578> fall <03318> out by reason <04480> of the sickness

<02483> day <03117> by day <03117>.

16 Moreover the LORD <03068> stirred <05782> up against <05921>

Jehoram <03088> the spirit <07307> of the Philistines <06430>,

and of the Arabians <06163>, that [were] near <03027> the

Ethiopians <03569>:

17 And they came <05927> up into Judah <03063>, and brake

<01234> into it, and carried <07617> away <07617> all <03605>

the substance <07399> that was found <04672> in the king's

<04428> house <01004>, and his sons <01121> also <01571>, and

his wives <0802>; so that there was never a son <01121> left

<07604> him, save <03467> Jehoahaz <03059>, the youngest <06996>

of his sons <01121>.

 18 And after <0310> all <03605> this <02063> the LORD <03068>

smote <05062> him in his bowels <04578> with an incurable

disease <02483>.

19 And it came <01961> to pass, that in process of time <03117>,

after the end <07093> of two <08147> years <03117>, his bowels

<04578> fell <03318> out by reason <05973> of his sickness

<02483>: so he died <04191> of sore <07451> diseases <08463>.

And his people <05971> made <06213> no <03808> burning <08316>

for him, like the burning <08316> of his fathers <01>.

20 Thirty <07970> and two <08147> years old <01121> was he when

he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427> in Jerusalem

<03389> eight <08083> years <08141>, and departed <03212>

without <03808> being desired <02532>. Howbeit they buried

<06912> him in the city <05892> of David <01732>, but not in the

sepulchres <06913> of the kings <04428>.

2Chronicles 22

 1. And the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389> made

Ahaziah <0274> his youngest <06996> son <01121> king <04427> in

his stead <08478>: for the band <01416> of men <0582> that came

<0935> with the Arabians <06163> to the camp <04264> had slain

<02026> all <03605> the eldest <07223>. So Ahaziah <0274> the

son <01121> of Jehoram <03088> king <04428> of Judah <03063>

reigned <04427>.

 2 Forty <0705> and two <08147> years <08141> old <01121> [was]

Ahaziah <0274> when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned

<04427> one <0259> year <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His

mother's <0517> name <08034> also [was] Athaliah <06271> the

daughter <01323> of Omri <06018>.

3 He also <01571> walked <01980> in the ways <01870> of the

house <01004> of Ahab <0256>: for his mother <0517> was his

counsellor <03289> to do wickedly <07561>.

4 Wherefore he did <06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of

the LORD <03068> like the house <01004> of Ahab <0256>: for they

were his counsellors <03289> after <0310> the death <04194> of

his father <025> to his destruction <04889>.

5 He walked <01980> also <01571> after their counsel <06098>,

and went <03212> with Jehoram <03088> the son <01121> of Ahab

<0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478> to war <04421> against

<05921> Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758> at

Ramothgilead <07433>: and the Syrians <0761> smote <05221> Joram

<03141>.

6 And he returned <07725> to be healed <07495> in Jezreel

<03157> because <03588> of the wounds <04347> which <0834> were

given <05221> him at Ramah <07414>, when he fought <03898> with

Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758>. And Azariah <05838>

the son <01121> of Jehoram <03088> king <04428> of Judah <03063>

went <03381> down <03381> to see <07200> Jehoram <03088> the son

<01121> of Ahab <0256> at Jezreel <03157>, because <03588> he

was sick <02470>.

7 And the destruction <08395> of Ahaziah <0274> was of God

<0430> by coming <0935> to Joram <03141>: for when he was come

<0935>, he went <03318> out with Jehoram <03088> against <0413>

Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Nimshi <05250>, whom <0834> the

LORD <03068> had anointed <04886> to cut <03772> off the house

<01004> of Ahab <0256>.

8 And it came <01961> to pass, that, when Jehu <03058> was

executing judgment <08196> upon the house <01004> of Ahab <0256>,

and found <04672> the princes <08269> of Judah <03063>, and the

sons <01121> of the brethren <0251> of Ahaziah <0274>, that

ministered <08334> to Ahaziah <0274>, he slew <02026> them.

9 And he sought <01245> Ahaziah <0274>: and they caught <03920>

him, (for he was hid <02244> in Samaria <08111>,) and brought

<0935> him to Jehu <03058>: and when they had slain <04191> him,

they buried <06912> him: Because <03588>, said <0559> they, he

[is] the son <01121> of Jehoshaphat <03092>, who <0834> sought

<01875> the LORD <03068> with all <03605> his heart <03824>. So

the house <01004> of Ahaziah <0274> had no <0369> power <03581>

to keep <06113> still the kingdom <04467>.

 10. But when Athaliah <06271> the mother <0517> of Ahaziah

<0274> saw <07200> that her son <01121> was dead <04191>, she

arose <06965> and destroyed <01696> all <03605> the seed <02233>

royal <04467> of the house <01004> of Judah <03063>.

11 But Jehoshabeath <03090>, the daughter of the king <04428>,

took <03947> Joash <03101> the son <01121> of Ahaziah <0274>,

and stole <01589> him from among <08432> the king's <04428> sons

<01121> that were slain <04191>, and put <05414> him and his

nurse <03243> in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath <03090>, the

daughter <01323> of king <04428> Jehoram <03088>, the wife

<0802> of Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548>, (for she was the

sister <0269> of Ahaziah <0274>,) hid <05641> him from Athaliah

<06271>, so that she slew <04191> him not.

12 And he was with them hid <02244> in the house <01004> of God

<0430> six <08337> years <08141>: and Athaliah <06271> reigned

<04427> over <05921> the land <0776>.

2Chronicles 23

 1. And in the seventh <07637> year <08141> Jehoiada <03111>

strengthened <02388> himself, and took <03947> the captains

<08269> of hundreds <03967>, Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of

Jeroham <03395>, and Ishmael <03458> the son <01121> of

Jehohanan <03076>, and Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of Obed

<05744>, and Maaseiah <04641> the son <01121> of Adaiah <05718>,

and Elishaphat <0478> the son <01121> of Zichri <02147>, into

covenant <01285> with him.

2 And they went <05437> about <05437> in Judah <03063>, and

gathered <06908> the Levites <03881> out of all <03605> the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and the chief <07218> of the

fathers <01> of Israel <03478>, and they came <0935> to

Jerusalem <03389>.

 3 And all <03605> the congregation <06951> made <03772> a

covenant <01285> with the king <04428> in the house <01004> of

God <0430>. And he said <0559> unto them, Behold <02009>, the

king's <04428> son <01121> shall reign <04427>, as the LORD

<03068> hath said <01696> of the sons <01121> of David <01732>.

 4 This <02088> [is] the thing <01697> that ye shall do <06213>;

A third <07992> part of you entering <0935> on the sabbath

<07676>, of the priests <03548> and of the Levites <03881>,

[shall be] porters <07778> of the doors <05592>;

 5 And a third <07992> part [shall be] at the king's <04428>

house <01004>; and a third <07992> part at the gate <08179> of

the foundation <03247>: and all <03605> the people <05971>

[shall be] in the courts <02691> of the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>.

6 But let none <0408> come <0935> into the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>, save the priests <03548>, and they that minister

<08334> of the Levites <03881>; they shall go <0935> in, for

they [are] holy <06944>: but all <03605> the people <05971>

shall keep <08104> the watch <04931> of the LORD <03068>.

7 And the Levites <03881> shall compass <05362> the king

<04428> round <05439> about, every man <0376> with his weapons

<03627> in his hand <03027>; and whosoever [else] cometh <0935>

into the house <01004>, he shall be put to death <04191>: but be

ye with the king <04428> when he cometh <0935> in, and when he

goeth <03318> out.

8 So the Levites <03881> and all <03605> Judah <03063> did

<06213> according to all <03605> things that Jehoiada <03111>

the priest <03548> had commanded <06680>, and took <03947> every

man <0376> his men <0582> that were to come <0935> in on the

sabbath <07676>, with them that were to go <03318> [out] on the

sabbath <07676>: for Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548>

dismissed <06362> not the courses <04256>.

9 Moreover Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548> delivered

<05414> to the captains <08269> of hundreds <03967> spears

<02595>, and bucklers <04043>, and shields <07982>, that [had

been] king <04428> David's <01732>, which <0834> [were] in the

house <01004> of God <0430>.

10 And he set <05975> all <03605> the people <05971>, every man

<0376> having his weapon <07973> in his hand <03027>, from the

right <03233> side <03802> of the temple <01004> to the left

<08042> side <03802> of the temple <01004>, along by the altar

<04196> and the temple <01004>, by the king <04428> round

<05439> about.

 11 Then they brought <03318> out the king's <04428> son <01121>,

and put <05414> upon him the crown <05145>, and [gave him] the

testimony <05715>, and made him king <04427>. And Jehoiada

<03111> and his sons <01121> anointed <04886> him, and said

<0559>, God save <02421> the king <04428>.

 12. Now when Athaliah <06271> heard <08085> the noise <06963>

of the people <05971> running <07323> and praising <01984> the

king <04428>, she came <0935> to the people <05971> into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>:

13 And she looked <07200>, and, behold <02009>, the king

<04428> stood <05975> at <05921> his pillar <05982> at <05921>

the entering <03996> in, and the princes <08269> and the

trumpets <02689> by the king <04428>: and all <03605> the people

<05971> of the land <0776> rejoiced <08056>, and sounded <08628>

with trumpets <02689>, also <01571> the singers <07891> with

instruments <03627> of musick <07892>, and such as taught

<03045> to sing <01984> praise <01984>. Then Athaliah <06271>

rent <07167> her clothes <0899>, and said <0559>, Treason

<07195>, Treason <07195>.

14 Then Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548> brought <03318> out

the captains <08269> of hundreds <03967> that were set <06485>

over the host <02428>, and said <0559> unto them, Have <03318>

her forth <03318> of the ranges <07713>: and whoso followeth her,

let him be slain <04191> with the sword <02719>. For the priest

<03548> said <0559>, Slay <04191> her not in the house <01004>

of the LORD <03068>.

15 So they laid <07760> hands <03027> on her; and when she was

come <0935> to the entering <03996> of the horse <05483> gate

<08179> by the king's <04428> house <01004>, they slew <04191>

her there <08033>.

 16 And Jehoiada <03111> made <03772> a covenant <01285> between

<0996> him, and between <0996> all <03605> the people <05971>,

and between <0996> the king <04428>, that they should be the

LORD'S <03068> people <05971>.

17 Then all <03605> the people <05971> went <0935> to the house

<01004> of Baal <01168>, and brake <05422> it down <05422>, and

brake <05422> his altars <04196> and his images <06754> in

pieces, and slew <02026> Mattan <04977> the priest <03548> of

Baal <01168> before <06440> the altars <04196>.

 18 Also Jehoiada <03111> appointed <07760> the offices <06486>

of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> by the hand <03027> of

the priests <03548> the Levites <03881>, whom <0834> David

<01732> had distributed <02505> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, to offer <05927> the burnt <05930> offerings of the

LORD <03068>, as [it is] written <03789> in the law <08451> of

Moses <04872>, with rejoicing <08057> and with singing <07892>,

[as it was ordained] by David <01732>.

19 And he set <05975> the porters <07778> at <05921> the gates

<08179> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, that none

<03808> [which was] unclean <02931> in any <03605> thing <01697>

should enter <0935> in.

20 And he took <03947> the captains <08269> of hundreds <03967>,

and the nobles <0117>, and the governors <04910> of the people

<05971>, and all <03605> the people <05971> of the land <0776>,

and brought <03381> down <03381> the king <04428> from the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>: and they came <0935> through

<08432> the high <05945> gate <08179> into the king's <04428>

house <01004>, and set <03427> the king <04428> upon the throne

<03678> of the kingdom <04467>.

21 And all <03605> the people <05971> of the land <0776>

rejoiced <08055>: and the city <05892> was quiet <08252>, after

that they had slain <04191> Athaliah <06271> with the sword

<02719>.

2Chronicles 24

 1. Joash <03101> [was] seven <07651> years <08141> old <01121>

when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427> forty

<0705> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His mother's <0517>

name <08034> also [was] Zibiah <06645> of Beersheba <0884>.

2 And Joash <03101> did <06213> [that which was] right <03477>

in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068> all <03605> the days

<03117> of Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548>.

3 And Jehoiada <03111> took <05375> for him two <08147> wives

<0802>; and he begat <03205> sons <01121> and daughters <01121>.

4 And it came <01961> to pass after <0310> this <03651>, [that]

Joash <03101> was minded to repair <02318> the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>.

5 And he gathered <06908> together the priests <03548> and the

Levites <03881>, and said <0559> to them, Go <03318> out unto

the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and gather <06908> of all

<03605> Israel <03478> money <03701> to repair <02388> the house

<01004> of your God <0430> from year <08141> to year <08141>,

and see that ye hasten <04116> the matter <01697>. Howbeit the

Levites <03881> hastened <04116> [it] not.

6 And the king <04428> called <07121> for Jehoiada <03111> the

chief <07218>, and said <0559> unto him, Why <04069> hast thou

not required <01875> of the Levites <03881> to bring <0935> in

out of Judah <03063> and out of Jerusalem <03389> the collection

<04864>, [according to the commandment] of Moses <04872> the

servant <05650> of the LORD <03068>, and of the congregation

<06951> of Israel <03478>, for the tabernacle <0168> of witness

<05715>?

7 For the sons <01121> of Athaliah <06271>, that wicked <04849>

woman, had broken <06555> up the house <01004> of God <0430>;

and also <01571> all <03605> the dedicated <06944> things of the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068> did they bestow <06213> upon

Baalim <01168>.

8 And at the king's <04428> commandment <0559> they made

<06213> a chest <0727>, and set <05414> it without <02351> at

the gate <08179> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

9 And they made <05414> a proclamation <06963> through Judah

<03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, to bring <0935> in to the LORD

<03068> the collection <04864> [that] Moses <04872> the servant

<05650> of God <0430> [laid] upon Israel <03478> in the

wilderness <04057>.

10 And all <03605> the princes <08269> and all <03605> the

people <05971> rejoiced <08055>, and brought <0935> in, and cast

<07993> into the chest <0727>, until <05704> they had made an

end <03615>.

11 Now it came <01961> to pass, that at what time <06256> the

chest <0727> was brought <0935> unto the king's <04428> office

<06486> by the hand <03027> of the Levites <03881>, and when

<03588> they saw <07200> that [there was] much <07227> money

<03701>, the king's <04428> scribe <05608> and the high <07218>

priest's <03548> officer <06496> came <0935> and emptied <06168>

the chest <0727>, and took <05375> it, and carried <07725> it to

his place <04725> again <07725>. Thus <03541> they did <06213>

day <03117> by day <03117>, and gathered <0622> money <03701> in

abundance <07230>.

12 And the king <04428> and Jehoiada <03111> gave <05414> it to

such as did <06213> the work <04399> of the service <05656> of

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and hired <07936> masons

<02672> and carpenters <02796> to repair <02318> the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>, and also <01571> such as wrought

<02790> iron <01270> and brass <05178> to mend <02388> the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>.

13 So the workmen wrought <06213>, and the work <04399> was

perfected by them, and they set <05975> the house <01004> of God

<0430> in his state <04971>, and strengthened <0553> it.

14 And when they had finished <03615> [it], they brought <0935>

the rest <07605> of the money <03701> before <06440> the king

<04428> and Jehoiada <03111>, whereof were made <06213> vessels

<03627> for the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, [even]

vessels <03627> to minister <08335>, and to offer <05927>

[withal], and spoons <03709>, and vessels <03627> of gold

<02091> and silver <03701>. And they offered <05927> burnt

<05930> offerings in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>

continually <08548> all <03605> the days <03117> of Jehoiada

<03111>.

 15. But Jehoiada <03111> waxed old <02204>, and was full

<07646> of days <03117> when he died <04191>; an hundred <03967>

and thirty <07970> years <08141> old <01121> [was he] when he

died <04194>.

16 And they buried <06912> him in the city <05892> of David

<01732> among <05973> the kings <04428>, because <03588> he had

done <06213> good <02896> in Israel <03478>, both toward <05973>

God <0430>, and toward his house <01004>.

17 Now after <0310> the death <04194> of Jehoiada <03111> came

<0935> the princes <08269> of Judah <03063>, and made obeisance

<07812> to the king <04428>. Then the king <04428> hearkened

<08085> unto them.

18 And they left <05800> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>

God <0430> of their fathers <01>, and served <05647> groves

<0842> and idols <06091>: and wrath <07110> came <01961> upon

Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389> for this <02063> their

trespass <0819>.

19 Yet he sent <07971> prophets <05030> to them, to bring

<07725> them again <07725> unto the LORD <03068>; and they

testified <05749> against them: but they would not give ear

<0238>.

20 And the Spirit <07307> of God <0430> came <03847> upon

Zechariah <02148> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111> the priest

<03548>, which stood <05975> above the people <05971>, and said

<0559> unto them, Thus <03541> saith <0559> God <0430>, Why

<04100> transgress <05674> ye the commandments <04687> of the

LORD <03068>, that ye cannot <03808> prosper <06743>? because

<03588> ye have forsaken <05800> the LORD <03068>, he hath also

forsaken <05800> you.

21 And they conspired <07194> against <05921> him, and stoned

<07275> him with stones <068> at the commandment <04687> of the

king <04428> in the court <02691> of the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>.

22 Thus Joash <03101> the king <04428> remembered <02142> not

the kindness <02617> which <0834> Jehoiada <03111> his father

<025> had done <06213> to him, but slew <02026> his son <01121>.

And when he died <04191>, he said <0559>, The LORD <03068> look

<07200> upon [it], and require <01875> [it].

23 And it came <01961> to pass at the end <08622> of the year

<08141>, [that] the host <02428> of Syria <0758> came <05927> up

against <05921> him: and they came <0935> to Judah <03063> and

Jerusalem <03389>, and destroyed <07843> all <03605> the princes

<08269> of the people <05971> from among the people <05971>, and

sent <07971> all <03605> the spoil <07998> of them unto the king

<04428> of Damascus <01834>.

24 For the army <02428> of the Syrians <0758> came <0935> with

a small <04705> company of men <0582>, and the LORD <03068>

delivered <05414> a very <03966> great <07230> host <02428> into

their hand <03027>, because <03588> they had forsaken <05800>

the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>. So they

executed <06213> judgment <08201> against Joash <03101>.

25 And when they were departed <03212> from him, (for they left

<05800> him in great <07227> diseases <04251>,) his own <0249>

servants <05650> conspired <07194> against <05921> him for the

blood <01818> of the sons <01121> of Jehoiada <03111> the priest

<03548>, and slew <02026> him on <05921> his bed <04296>, and he

died <04191>: and they buried <06912> him in the city <05892> of

David <01732>, but they buried <06912> him not in the sepulchres

<06913> of the kings <04428>.

26 And these <0428> are they that conspired <07194> against

<05921> him; Zabad <02066> the son <01121> of Shimeath <08100>

an Ammonitess <05984>, and Jehozabad <03075> the son <01121> of

Shimrith <08116> a Moabitess <04125>.

27 Now [concerning] his sons <01121>, and the greatness <07230>

of the burdens <04853> [laid] upon him, and the repairing

<03247> of the house <01004> of God <0430>, behold <02009>, they

[are] written <03789> in the story <04097> of the book <05612>

of the kings <04428>. And Amaziah <0558> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Chronicles 25

 1. Amaziah <0558> [was] twenty <06242> and five <02568> years

<08141> old <01121> [when] he began to reign <04427>, and he

reigned <04427> twenty <06242> and nine <08672> years <08141> in

Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was]

Jehoaddan <03086> of Jerusalem <03389>.

2 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, but not with a perfect

<08003> heart <03824>.

3 Now it came <01961> to pass, when <0834> the kingdom <04467>

was established <02388> to him, that he slew <02026> his

servants <05650> that had killed <05221> the king <04428> his

father <025>.

4 But he slew <04191> not their children <01121>, but [did] as

[it is] written <03789> in the law <08451> in the book <05612>

of Moses <04872>, where <0834> the LORD <03068> commanded

<06680>, saying <0559>, The fathers <01> shall not die <04191>

for the children <01121>, neither <03808> shall the children

<01121> die <04191> for the fathers <01>, but every man <0376>

shall die <04191> for his own sin <02399>.

 5 Moreover Amaziah <0558> gathered <06908> Judah <03063>

together, and made them captains <08269> over thousands <0505>,

and captains <08269> over hundreds <03967>, according to the

houses <01004> of [their] fathers <01>, throughout all <03605>

Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144>: and he numbered <06485> them

from twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121> and above <04605>,

and found <04672> them three <07969> hundred <03967> thousand

<0505> choice <0970> [men, able] to go <03318> forth <03318> to

war <06635>, that could handle <0270> spear <07420> and shield

<06793>.

6 He hired <07936> also an hundred <03967> thousand <0505>

mighty <01368> men of valour <02428> out of Israel <03478> for

an hundred <03967> talents <03603> of silver <03701>.

7 But there came <0935> a man <0376> of God <0430> to him,

saying <0559>, O king <04428>, let not the army <06635> of

Israel <03478> go <0935> with thee; for the LORD <03068> [is]

not with Israel <03478>, [to wit, with] all <03605> the children

<01121> of Ephraim <0669>.

8 But if <0518> thou wilt go <0935>, do <06213> [it], be strong

<02388> for the battle <04421>: God <0430> shall make thee fall

<03782> before <06440> the enemy <0341>: for God <0430> hath

<03426> power <03581> to help <05826>, and to cast <03782> down

<03782>.

9 And Amaziah <0558> said <0559> to the man <0376> of God

<0430>, But what <04100> shall we do <06213> for the hundred

<03967> talents <03603> which <0834> I have given <05414> to the

army <01416> of Israel <03478>? And the man <0376> of God <0430>

answered <0559>, The LORD <03068> is able to give <05414> thee

much <07235> more <07235> than this <02088>.

10 Then Amaziah <0558> separated <0914> them, [to wit], the

army <01416> that was come <0935> to him out of Ephraim <0669>,

to go <03212> home <04725> again: wherefore their anger <0639>

was greatly <03966> kindled <02734> against Judah <03063>, and

they returned <07725> home <04725> in great <02750> anger <0639>.

11 And Amaziah <0558> strengthened <02388> himself, and led

<05090> forth his people <05971>, and went <03212> to the valley

<01516> of salt <04417>, and smote <05221> of the children

<01121> of Seir <08165> ten <06235> thousand <0505>.

12 And [other] ten <06235> thousand <0505> [left] alive <02416>

did the children <01121> of Judah <03063> carry <07617> away

captive <07617>, and brought <0935> them unto the top <07218> of

the rock <05553>, and cast <07993> them down from the top

<07218> of the rock <05553>, that they all <03605> were broken

<01234> in pieces.

13 But the soldiers <01121> of the army <01416> which <0834>

Amaziah <0558> sent <07725> back <07725>, that they should not

go <03212> with him to battle <04421>, fell <06584> upon the

cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, from Samaria <08111> even unto

Bethhoron <01032>, and smote <05221> three <07969> thousand

<0505> of them, and took much <07227> spoil <0961>.

 14. Now it came <01961> to pass, after <0310> that Amaziah

<0558> was come <0935> from the slaughter <05221> of the

Edomites <0130>, that he brought <0935> the gods <0430> of the

children <01121> of Seir <08165>, and set <05975> them up [to

be] his gods <0430>, and bowed <07812> down <07812> himself

before <06440> them, and burned <06999> incense <06999> unto

them.

15 Wherefore the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> was kindled

<02734> against Amaziah <0558>, and he sent <07971> unto him a

prophet <05030>, which said <0559> unto him, Why <04100> hast

thou sought <01875> after the gods <0430> of the people <05971>,

which <0834> could not deliver <05337> their own people <05971>

out of thine hand <03027>?

16 And it came <01961> to pass, as he talked <01696> with him,

that [the king] said <0559> unto him, Art thou made <05414> of

the king's <04428> counsel <03289>? forbear <02308>; why <04100>

shouldest thou be smitten <05221>? Then the prophet <05030>

forbare <02308>, and said <0559>, I know <03045> that God <0430>

hath determined <03289> to destroy <07843> thee, because <03588>

thou hast done <06213> this <02063>, and hast not hearkened

<08085> unto my counsel <06098>.

 17. Then Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063> took

advice <03289>, and sent <07971> to Joash <03101>, the son

<01121> of Jehoahaz <03059>, the son <01121> of Jehu <03058>,

king <04428> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, Come <03212>, let

us see <07200> one another in the face <06440>.

18 And Joash <03101> king <04428> of Israel <03478> sent

<07971> to Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, saying

<0559>, The thistle <02336> that [was] in Lebanon <03844> sent

<07971> to the cedar <0730> that [was] in Lebanon <03844>,

saying <0559>, Give <05414> thy daughter <01323> to my son

<01121> to wife <0802>: and there passed <05674> by a wild

<07704> beast <02416> that [was] in Lebanon <03844>, and trode

<07429> down the thistle <02336>.

19 Thou sayest <0559>, Lo <02009>, thou hast smitten <05221>

the Edomites <0130>; and thine heart <03820> lifteth <05375>

thee up to boast <03513>: abide <03427> now <06258> at home

<01004>; why <04100> shouldest thou meddle <01624> to [thine]

hurt <07451>, that thou shouldest fall <05307>, [even] thou, and

Judah <03063> with thee?

20 But Amaziah <0558> would not hear <08085>; for it [came] of

God <0430>, that he might deliver <05414> them into the hand

<03027> [of their enemies], because <03588> they sought <01875>

after the gods <0430> of Edom <0123>.

21 So Joash <03101> the king <04428> of Israel <03478> went

<05927> up; and they saw <07200> one another in the face <06440>,

[both] he and Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, at

Bethshemesh <01053>, which <0834> [belongeth] to Judah <03063>.

22 And Judah <03063> was put to the worse <05062> before

<06440> Israel <03478>, and they fled <05127> every man <0376>

to his tent <0168>.

23 And Joash <03101> the king <04428> of Israel <03478> took

<08610> Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, the son

<01121> of Joash <03101>, the son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059>,

at Bethshemesh <01053>, and brought <0935> him to Jerusalem

<03389>, and brake <06555> down the wall <02346> of Jerusalem

<03389> from the gate <08179> of Ephraim <0669> to the corner

<06437> gate <08179>, four <0702> hundred <03967> cubits <0520>.

24 And [he took] all <03605> the gold <02091> and the silver

<03701>, and all <03605> the vessels <03627> that were found

<04672> in the house <01004> of God <0430> with Obededom <05654>,

and the treasures <0214> of the king's <04428> house <01004>,

the hostages also, and returned <07725> to Samaria <08111>.

25 And Amaziah <0558> the son <01121> of Joash <03101> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> lived <02421> after <0310> the death

<04194> of Joash <03101> son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059> king

<04428> of Israel <03478> fifteen <06240> years <08141>.

26 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Amaziah <0558>,

first <07223> and last <0314>, behold <02009>, [are] they not

written <03789> in the book <05612> of the kings <04428> of

Judah <03063> and Israel <03478>?

27 Now after the time <06256> that Amaziah <0558> did turn

<05493> away from following <0310> the LORD <03068> they made a

conspiracy <07195> against <05921> him in Jerusalem <03389>; and

he fled <05127> to Lachish <03923>: but they sent <07971> to

Lachish <03923> after <0310> him, and slew <04191> him there

<08033>.

28 And they brought <05375> him upon horses <05483>, and buried

<06912> him with his fathers <01> in the city <05892> of Judah

<03063>.

2Chronicles 26

 1. Then all <03605> the people <05971> of Judah <03063> took

<03947> Uzziah <05818>, who <01931> [was] sixteen years <08141>

old <01121>, and made him king <04427> in the room <08478> of

his father <025> Amaziah <0558>.

2 He built <01129> Eloth <0359>, and restored <07725> it to

Judah <03063>, after <0310> that the king <04428> slept <07901>

with his fathers <01>.

3 Sixteen years <08141> old <01121> [was] Uzziah <05818> when

he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427> fifty <02572>

and two <08147> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His mother's

<0517> name <08034> also [was] Jecoliah <03203> of Jerusalem

<03389>.

4 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, according to all <03605> that

his father <025> Amaziah <0558> did <06213>.

5 And he sought <01875> God <0430> in the days <03117> of

Zechariah <02148>, who had understanding <0995> in the visions

<07200> of God <0430>: and as long <03117> as he sought <01875>

the LORD <03068>, God <0430> made him to prosper <06743>.

6 And he went <03318> forth <03318> and warred <03898> against

the Philistines <06430>, and brake <06555> down the wall <02346>

of Gath <01661>, and the wall <02346> of Jabneh <02996>, and the

wall <02346> of Ashdod <0795>, and built <01129> cities <05892>

about Ashdod <0795>, and among the Philistines <06430>.

7 And God <0430> helped <05826> him against <05921> the

Philistines <06430>, and against <05921> the Arabians <06163>

that dwelt <03427> in Gurbaal <01485>, and the Mehunims <04586>.

8 And the Ammonites <05984> gave <05414> gifts <04503> to

Uzziah <05818>: and his name <08034> spread <03212> abroad

[even] to the entering <0935> in of Egypt <04714>; for he

strengthened <02388> [himself] exceedingly <04605>.

 9 Moreover Uzziah <05818> built <01129> towers <04026> in

Jerusalem <03389> at <05921> the corner <06438> gate <08179>,

and at <05921> the valley <01516> gate <08179>, and at <05921>

the turning <04740> [of the wall], and fortified <02388> them.

10 Also he built <01129> towers <04026> in the desert <04057>,

and digged <02672> many <07227> wells <0953>: for he had <01961>

much <07227> cattle <0929>, both in the low <08219> country, and

in the plains <04334>: husbandmen <0406> [also], and vine

<03755> dressers <03755> in the mountains <02022>, and in Carmel

<03760>: for he loved <0157> husbandry <0127>.

11 Moreover Uzziah <05818> had an host <02428> of fighting

<04421> men, that went <03318> out to war <06635> by bands

<01416>, according to the number <04557> of their account

<06486> by the hand <03027> of Jeiel <03273> the scribe <05608>

and Maaseiah <04641> the ruler <07860>, under <05921> the hand

<03027> of Hananiah <02608>, [one] of the king's <04428>

captains <08269>.

12 The whole <03605> number <04557> of the chief <07218> of the

fathers <01> of the mighty <01368> men of valour <02428> [were]

two thousand <0505> and six <08337> hundred <03967>.

13 And under <05921> their hand <03027> [was] an army <06635>,

three <07969> hundred <03967> thousand <0505> and seven <07651>

thousand <0505> and five <02568> hundred <03967>, that made

<06213> war <04421> with mighty <02428> power <03581>, to help

<05826> the king <04428> against <05921> the enemy <0341>.

14 And Uzziah <05818> prepared <03559> for them throughout all

<03605> the host <06635> shields <04043>, and spears <07420>,

and helmets <03553>, and habergeons <08302>, and bows <07198>,

and slings <07050> [to cast] stones <068>.

15 And he made <06213> in Jerusalem <03389> engines <02810>,

invented <02803> by cunning <02803> men, to be on <05921> the

towers <04026> and upon the bulwarks <06438>, to shoot <03384>

arrows <02671> and great <01419> stones <068> withal. And his

name <08034> spread <03318> far <07350> abroad <07350>; for he

was marvellously <06381> helped <05826>, till he was strong

<02388>.

 16. But when he was strong <02394>, his heart <03820> was

lifted <01361> up to [his] destruction <07843>: for he

transgressed <04603> against the LORD <03068> his God <0430>,

and went <0935> into <0413> the temple <01964> of the LORD

<03068> to burn <06999> incense <06999> upon the altar <04196>

of incense <06999>.

17 And Azariah <05838> the priest <03548> went <0935> in after

<0310> him, and with him fourscore <08084> priests <03548> of

the LORD <03068>, [that were] valiant <02428> men <01121>:

18 And they withstood <05975> Uzziah <05818> the king <04428>,

and said <0559> unto him, [It appertaineth] not unto thee,

Uzziah <05818>, to burn <06999> incense <06999> unto the LORD

<03068>, but to the priests <03548> the sons <01121> of Aaron

<0175>, that are consecrated <06942> to burn <06999> incense

<06999>: go <03318> out of the sanctuary <04720>; for thou hast

trespassed <04603>; neither <03808> [shall it be] for thine

honour <03519> from the LORD <03068> God <0430>.

19 Then Uzziah <05818> was wroth <02196>, and [had] a censer

<04730> in his hand <03027> to burn <06999> incense <06999>: and

while he was wroth <02196> with the priests <03548>, the leprosy

<06883> even rose <02224> up in his forehead <04696> before

<06440> the priests <03548> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, from beside <05921> the incense <07004> altar <04196>.

20 And Azariah <05838> the chief <07218> priest <03548>, and

all <03605> the priests <03548>, looked <06437> upon him, and,

behold <02009>, he [was] leprous <06879> in his forehead <04696>,

and they thrust <0926> him out from thence <08033>; yea,

himself <01931> hasted <01765> also <01571> to go <03318> out,

because <03588> the LORD <03068> had smitten <05060> him.

 21 And Uzziah <05818> the king <04428> was a leper <06879> unto

the day <03117> of his death <04194>, and dwelt <03427> in a

several <02669> house <01004>, [being] a leper <06879>; for he

was cut <01504> off from the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>:

and Jotham <03147> his son <01121> [was] over <05921> the king's

<04428> house <01004>, judging <08199> the people <05971> of the

land <0776>.

22 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Uzziah <05818>,

first <07223> and last <0314>, did Isaiah <03470> the prophet

<05030>, the son <01121> of Amoz <0531>, write <03789>.

23 So Uzziah <05818> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

they buried <06912> him with his fathers <01> in the field

<07704> of the burial <06900> which <0834> [belonged] to the

kings <04428>; for they said <0559>, He [is] a leper <06879>:

and Jotham <03147> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

2Chronicles 27

 1. Jotham <03147> [was] twenty <06242> and five <02568> years

<08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he

reigned <04427> sixteen years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His

mother's <0517> name <08034> also [was] Jerushah <03388>, the

daughter <01323> of Zadok <06659>.

2 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, according to all <03605> that

his father <025> Uzziah <05818> did <06213>: howbeit he entered

<0935> not into <0413> the temple <01964> of the LORD <03068>.

And the people <05971> did yet <05750> corruptly <07843>.

3 He built <01129> the high <05945> gate <08179> of the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>, and on the wall <02346> of Ophel

<06077> he built <01129> much <07230>.

4 Moreover he built <01129> cities <05892> in the mountains

<02022> of Judah <03063>, and in the forests <02793> he built

<01129> castles <01003> and towers <04026>.

5 He fought <03898> also with the king <04428> of the Ammonites

<05984>, and prevailed <02388> against <05921> them. And the

children <01121> of Ammon <05983> gave <05414> him the same

<01931> year <08141> an hundred <03967> talents <03603> of

silver <03701>, and ten <06235> thousand <0505> measures <03734>

of wheat <02406>, and ten <06235> thousand <0505> of barley

<08184>. So <02063> much <01931> did the children <01121> of

Ammon <05983> pay <07725> unto him, both the second <08145> year

<08141>, and the third <07992>.

 6 So Jotham <03147> became <02388> mighty <02388>, because

<03588> he prepared <03559> his ways <01870> before <06440> the

LORD <03068> his God <0430>.

7 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jotham <03147>,

and all <03605> his wars <04421>, and his ways <01870>, lo

<02005>, they [are] written <03789> in the book <05612> of the

kings <04428> of Israel <03478> and Judah <03063>.

8 He was five <02568> and twenty <06242> years <08141> old

<01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and reigned <04427>

sixteen years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>.

9 And Jotham <03147> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

they buried <06912> him in the city <05892> of David <01732>:

and Ahaz <0271> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

2Chronicles 28

 1. Ahaz <0271> [was] twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121>

when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427> sixteen

years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>: but he did <06213> not [that

which was] right <03477> in the sight <05869> of the LORD

<03068>, like David <01732> his father <025>:

2 For he walked <03212> in the ways <01870> of the kings

<04428> of Israel <03478>, and made <06213> also <01571> molten

<04541> images for Baalim <01168>.

3 Moreover he burnt <06999> incense <06999> in the valley

<01516> of the son <01121> of Hinnom <02011>, and burnt <01197>

his children <01121> in the fire <0784>, after the abominations

<08441> of the heathen <01471> whom <0834> the LORD <03068> had

cast <03423> out before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel

<03478>.

4 He sacrificed <02076> also and burnt <06999> incense <06999>

in the high <01116> places, and on <05921> the hills <01389>,

and under <08478> every <03605> green <07488> tree <06086>.

5 Wherefore the LORD <03068> his God <0430> delivered <05414>

him into the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of Syria <0758>;

and they smote <05221> him, and carried <07617> away <07617> a

great <01419> multitude of them captives <07633>, and brought

<0935> [them] to Damascus <01834>. And he was also delivered

<05414> into the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of Israel

<03478>, who smote <05221> him with a great <01419> slaughter

<04347>.

 6. For Pekah <06492> the son <01121> of Remaliah <07425> slew

<02026> in Judah <03063> an hundred <03967> and twenty <06242>

thousand <0505> in one <0259> day <03117>, [which were] all

<03605> valiant <02428> men <01121>; because they had forsaken

<05800> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01>.

 7 And Zichri <02147>, a mighty <01368> man of Ephraim <0669>,

slew <02026> Maaseiah <04641> the king's <04428> son <01121>,

and Azrikam <05840> the governor <05057> of the house <01004>,

and Elkanah <0511> [that was] next <04932> to the king <04428>.

8 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> carried <07617>

away captive <07617> of their brethren <0251> two hundred

<03967> thousand <0505>, women <0802>, sons <01121>, and

daughters <01121>, and took also <01571> away much <07227> spoil

<07998> from them, and brought <0935> the spoil <07998> to

Samaria <08111>.

 9 But a prophet <05030> of the LORD <03068> was there <08033>,

whose name <08034> [was] Oded <05752>: and he went <03318> out

before <06440> the host <06635> that came <0935> to Samaria

<08111>, and said <0559> unto them, Behold <02009>, because the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of your fathers <01> was wroth <02534>

with Judah <03063>, he hath delivered <05414> them into your

hand <03027>, and ye have slain <02026> them in a rage <02197>

[that] reacheth <05060> up unto heaven <08064>.

10 And now <06258> ye purpose <0559> to keep <03533> under the

children <01121> of Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389> for

bondmen <05650> and bondwomen <08198> unto you: [but are there]

not with you, even <07535> with you, sins <0819> against the

LORD <03068> your God <0430>?

11 Now <06258> hear <08085> me therefore, and deliver <07725>

the captives <07633> again, which <0834> ye have taken captive

<07617> of your brethren <0251>: for the fierce <02740> wrath

<0639> of the LORD <03068> [is] upon you.

12 Then certain <0592> of the heads of the children <01121> of

Ephraim <0669>, Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of Johanan

<03076>, Berechiah <01296> the son <01121> of Meshillemoth

<04919>, and Jehizkiah <03169> the son <01121> of Shallum

<07967>, and Amasa <06021> the son <01121> of Hadlai <02311>,

stood <06965> up against <05921> them that came <0935> from the

war <06635>,

13 And said <0559> unto them, Ye shall not bring <0935> in the

captives <07633> hither: for whereas <03588> we have offended

<0819> against the LORD <03068> [already], ye intend <0559> to

add <03254> [more] to our sins <02403> and to our trespass

<0819>: for our trespass <0819> is great <07227>, and [there is]

fierce <02740> wrath <0639> against <05921> Israel <03478>.

14 So the armed <02502> men left <05800> the captives <07633>

and the spoil <0961> before <06440> the princes <08269> and all

<03605> the congregation <06951>.

15 And the men <0582> which <0834> were expressed <05344> by

name <08034> rose <06965> up, and took <02388> the captives

<07633>, and with the spoil <07998> clothed <03847> all <03605>

that were naked <04636> among them, and arrayed <03847> them,

and shod <05274> them, and gave them to eat <0398> and to drink

<08248>, and anointed <04886> them, and carried <05095> all

<03605> the feeble <03782> of them upon asses <02543>, and

brought <0935> them to Jericho <03405>, the city <05892> of palm

<08558> trees, to their brethren <0251>: then they returned

<07725> to Samaria <08111>.

 16. At that time <06256> did king <04428> Ahaz <0271> send

<07971> unto the kings <04428> of Assyria <0804> to help <05826>

him.

17 For again <05750> the Edomites <0130> had come <0935> and

smitten <05221> Judah <03063>, and carried <07617> away captives

<07628>.

18 The Philistines <06430> also had invaded <06584> the cities

<05892> of the low <08219> country, and of the south <05045> of

Judah <03063>, and had taken <03920> Bethshemesh <01053>, and

Ajalon <0357>, and Gederoth <01450>, and Shocho <07755> with the

villages <01323> thereof, and Timnah <08553> with the villages

<01323> thereof, Gimzo <01579> also and the villages <01323>

thereof: and they dwelt <03427> there <08033>.

19 For the LORD <03068> brought <03665> Judah <03063> low

<03665> because <05668> of Ahaz <0271> king <04428> of Israel

<03478>; for he made Judah <03063> naked <06544>, and

transgressed <04603> sore against the LORD <03068>.

 20 And Tilgathpilneser <08407> king <04428> of Assyria <0804>

came <0935> unto him, and distressed <06696> him, but

strengthened <02388> him not.

21 For Ahaz <0271> took away a portion <02505> [out] of the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and [out] of the house

<01004> of the king <04428>, and of the princes <08269>, and

gave <05414> [it] unto the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>: but

he helped <05833> him not.

22 And in the time <06256> of his distress <06887> did he

trespass <04603> yet more <03254> against the LORD <03068>: this

<01931> [is that] king <04428> Ahaz <0271>.

23 For he sacrificed <02076> unto the gods <0430> of Damascus

<01834>, which smote <05221> him: and he said <0559>, Because

<03588> the gods <0430> of the kings <04428> of Syria <0758>

help <05826> them, [therefore] will I sacrifice <02076> to them,

that they may help <05826> me. But they were the ruin of him,

and of all <03605> Israel <03478>.

24 And Ahaz <0271> gathered <0622> together the vessels <03627>

of the house <01004> of God <0430>, and cut <07112> in pieces

the vessels <03627> of the house <01004> of God <0430>, and shut

<05462> up the doors <01817> of the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and he made <06213> him altars <04196> in every <03605>

corner <06438> of Jerusalem <03389>.

25 And in every <03605> several city <05892> of Judah <03063>

he made <06213> high <01116> places to burn <06999> incense

<06999> unto other <0312> gods <0430>, and provoked to anger

<03707> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of his fathers <01>.

26 Now the rest <03499> of his acts <01697> and of all <03605>

his ways <01870>, first <07223> and last <0314>, behold <02009>,

they [are] written <03789> in the book <05612> of the kings

<04428> of Judah <03063> and Israel <03478>.

27 And Ahaz <0271> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

they buried <06912> him in the city <05892>, [even] in Jerusalem

<03389>: but they brought <0935> him not into the sepulchres

<06913> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>: and Hezekiah

<02396> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Chronicles 29

 1. Hezekiah <02396> began to reign <04427> [when he was] five

<02568> and twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121>, and he

reigned <04427> nine <08672> and twenty <06242> years <08141> in

Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was]

Abijah <029>, the daughter <01323> of Zechariah <02148>.

2 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, according to all <03605> that

David <01732> his father <025> had done <06213>.

3 He in the first <07223> year <08141> of his reign <04427>, in

the first <07223> month <02320>, opened <06605> the doors

<01817> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and repaired

<02388> them.

4 And he brought <0935> in the priests <03548> and the Levites

<03881>, and gathered <0622> them together into the east <04217>

street <07339>,

5 And said <0559> unto them, Hear <08085> me, ye Levites

<03881>, sanctify <06942> now <06258> yourselves, and sanctify

<06942> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> God <0430> of your

fathers <01>, and carry <03318> forth <03318> the filthiness

<05079> out of the holy <06944> [place].

6 For our fathers <01> have trespassed <04603>, and done

<06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the eyes <05869> of the

LORD <03068> our God <0430>, and have forsaken <05800> him, and

have turned <05437> away their faces <06440> from the habitation

<04908> of the LORD <03068>, and turned <05414> [their] backs

<06203>.

7 Also <01571> they have shut <05462> up the doors <01817> of

the porch <0197>, and put <03518> out the lamps <05216>, and

have not burned <06999> incense <07004> nor <03808> offered

<05927> burnt <05930> offerings in the holy <06944> [place] unto

the God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

8 Wherefore the wrath <07110> of the LORD <03068> was upon

Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, and he hath delivered

<05414> them to trouble <02189>, to astonishment <08047>, and to

hissing <08322>, as ye see <07200> with your eyes <05869>.

9 For, lo <02009>, our fathers <01> have fallen <05307> by the

sword <02719>, and our sons <01121> and our daughters <01121>

and our wives <0802> [are] in captivity <07628> for this <02088>.

10 Now <06258> [it is] in mine heart <03824> to make <03772> a

covenant <01285> with the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, that his fierce <02740> wrath <0639> may turn <07725>

away from us.

11 My sons <01121>, be not now <06258> negligent <07952>: for

the LORD <03068> hath chosen <0970> you to stand <05975> before

<06440> him, to serve <08334> him, and that ye should minister

<08334> unto him, and burn <06999> incense <06999>.

 12. Then the Levites <03881> arose <06965>, Mahath <04287> the

son <01121> of Amasai <06022>, and Joel <03100> the son <01121>

of Azariah <05838>, of the sons <01121> of the Kohathites

<06956>: and of the sons <01121> of Merari <04847>, Kish <07027>

the son <01121> of Abdi <05660>, and Azariah <05838> the son

<01121> of Jehalelel <03094>: and of the Gershonites <01649>;

Joah <03098> the son <01121> of Zimmah <02155>, and Eden <05731>

the son <01121> of Joah <03098>:

13 And of the sons <01121> of Elizaphan <0469>; Shimri <08113>,

and Jeiel <03273>: and of the sons <01121> of Asaph <0623>;

Zechariah <02148>, and Mattaniah <04983>:

14 And of the sons <01121> of Heman <01968>; Jehiel <03171>,

and Shimei <08096>: and of the sons <01121> of Jeduthun <03038>;

Shemaiah <08098>, and Uzziel <05816>.

15 And they gathered <0622> their brethren <0251>, and

sanctified <06942> themselves, and came <0935>, according to the

commandment <04687> of the king <04428>, by the words <01697> of

the LORD <03068>, to cleanse <02891> the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>.

16 And the priests <03548> went <0935> into the inner <06441>

part of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, to cleanse

<02891> [it], and brought <03318> out all <03605> the

uncleanness <02932> that they found <04672> in the temple

<01964> of the LORD <03068> into the court <02691> of the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>. And the Levites <03881> took

<06901> [it], to carry <03318> [it] out abroad <02351> into the

brook <05158> Kidron <06939>.

17 Now they began <02490> on the first <07223> [day] of the

first <07223> month <02320> to sanctify <06942>, and on the

eighth <08066> day of the month <02320> came <0935> they to the

porch <0197> of the LORD <03068>: so they sanctified <06942> the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068> in eight <08083> days <03117>;

and in the sixteenth day of the first <07223> month <02320> they

made an end <03615>.

18 Then they went <0935> in to Hezekiah <02396> the king

<04428>, and said <0559>, We have cleansed <02891> all <03605>

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and the altar <04196> of

burnt <05930> offering, with all <03605> the vessels <03627>

thereof, and the shewbread <04635> table <07979>, with all

<03605> the vessels <03627> thereof.

19 Moreover all <03605> the vessels <03627>, which <0834> king

<04428> Ahaz <0271> in his reign <04438> did cast <02186> away

in his transgression <04604>, have we prepared <03559> and

sanctified <06942>, and, behold <02009>, they [are] before

<06440> the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068>.

 20. Then Hezekiah <02396> the king <04428> rose <07925> early

<07925>, and gathered <0622> the rulers <08269> of the city

<05892>, and went <05927> up to the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>.

21 And they brought <0935> seven <07651> bullocks <06499>, and

seven <07651> rams <0352>, and seven <07651> lambs <03532>, and

seven <07651> he goats <05795>, for a sin <02403> offering for

the kingdom <04467>, and for the sanctuary <04720>, and for

Judah <03063>. And he commanded <0559> the priests <03548> the

sons <01121> of Aaron <0175> to offer <05927> [them] on <05921>

the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068>.

22 So they killed <07819> the bullocks <01241>, and the priests

<03548> received <06901> the blood <01818>, and sprinkled

<02236> [it] on the altar <04196>: likewise, when they had

killed <07819> the rams <0352>, they sprinkled <02236> the blood

<01818> upon the altar <04196>: they killed <07819> also the

lambs <03532>, and they sprinkled <02236> the blood <01818> upon

the altar <04196>.

23 And they brought <05066> forth the he goats <08163> [for]

the sin <02403> offering before <06440> the king <04428> and the

congregation <06951>; and they laid <05564> their hands <03027>

upon them:

24 And the priests <03548> killed <07819> them, and they made

reconciliation <02398> with their blood <01818> upon the altar

<04196>, to make an atonement <03722> for all <03605> Israel

<03478>: for the king <04428> commanded <0559> [that] the burnt

<05930> offering and the sin <02403> offering [should be made]

for all <03605> Israel <03478>.

25 And he set <05975> the Levites <03881> in the house <01004>

of the LORD <03068> with cymbals <04700>, with psalteries

<05035>, and with harps <03658>, according to the commandment

<04687> of David <01732>, and of Gad <01410> the king's <04428>

seer <02374>, and Nathan <05416> the prophet <05030>: for [so

was] the commandment <04687> of the LORD <03068> by his prophets

<05030>.

26 And the Levites <03881> stood <05975> with the instruments

<03627> of David <01732>, and the priests <03548> with the

trumpets <02689>.

27 And Hezekiah <02396> commanded <0559> to offer <05927> the

burnt <05930> offering upon the altar <04196>. And when <06256>

the burnt <05930> offering began <02490>, the song <07892> of

the LORD <03068> began <02490> [also] with the trumpets <02689>,

and with the instruments <03627> [ordained] by David <01732>

king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

 28 And all <03605> the congregation <06951> worshipped <07812>,

and the singers <07892> sang <07891>, and the trumpeters <02690>

sounded <02690>: [and] all <03605> [this continued] until

<05704> the burnt <05930> offering was finished <03615>.

29 And when they had made an end <03615> of offering <05927>,

the king <04428> and all <03605> that were present <04672> with

him bowed <03766> themselves, and worshipped <07812>.

30 Moreover Hezekiah <02396> the king <04428> and the princes

<08269> commanded <0559> the Levites <03881> to sing <01984>

praise <01984> unto the LORD <03068> with the words <01697> of

David <01732>, and of Asaph <0623> the seer <02374>. And they

sang praises <01984> with gladness <08057>, and they bowed

<06915> their heads and worshipped <07812>.

31 Then Hezekiah <02396> answered <06030> and said <0559>, Now

<06258> ye have consecrated yourselves <03027> unto the LORD

<03068>, come <05066> near <05066> and bring <0935> sacrifices

<02077> and thank <08426> offerings into the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>. And the congregation <06951> brought <0935> in

sacrifices <02077> and thank <08426> offerings; and as many as

were of a free <05081> heart <03820> burnt <05930> offerings.

32 And the number <04557> of the burnt <05930> offerings, which

<0834> the congregation <06951> brought <0935>, was threescore

<07657> and ten bullocks <01241>, an hundred <03967> rams <0352>,

[and] two hundred <03967> lambs <03532>: all <03605> these

<0428> [were] for a burnt <05930> offering to the LORD <03068>.

33 And the consecrated <06942> things [were] six <08337>

hundred <03967> oxen <01241> and three <07969> thousand <0505>

sheep <06629>.

34 But the priests <03548> were too few <04592>, so that they

could <03201> not flay <06584> all <03605> the burnt <05930>

offerings: wherefore their brethren <0251> the Levites <03881>

did help <02388> them, till <05704> the work <04399> was ended

<03615>, and until <05704> the [other] priests <03548> had

sanctified <06942> themselves: for the Levites <03881> [were]

more upright <03477> in heart <03824> to sanctify <06942>

themselves than the priests <03548>.

35 And also <01571> the burnt <05930> offerings [were] in

abundance <07230>, with the fat <02459> of the peace <08002>

offerings, and the drink <05262> offerings for [every] burnt

<05930> offering. So the service <05656> of the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068> was set <03559> in order <03559>.

36 And Hezekiah <02396> rejoiced <08055>, and all <03605> the

people <05971>, that God <0430> had prepared <03559> the people

<05971>: for the thing <01697> was [done] suddenly <06597>.

2Chronicles 30

 1. And Hezekiah <02396> sent <07971> to all <03605> Israel

<03478> and Judah <03063>, and wrote <03789> letters <0107> also

<01571> to Ephraim <0669> and Manasseh <04519>, that they should

come <0935> to the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> at

Jerusalem <03389>, to keep <06213> the passover <06453> unto the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

2 For the king <04428> had taken counsel <03289>, and his

princes <08269>, and all <03605> the congregation <06951> in

Jerusalem <03389>, to keep <06213> the passover <06453> in the

second <08145> month <02320>.

3 For they could <03201> not keep <06213> it at that time

<06256>, because <03588> the priests <03548> had not sanctified

<06942> themselves sufficiently <04078>, neither <03808> had the

people <05971> gathered <0622> themselves together to Jerusalem

<03389>.

4 And the thing <01697> pleased the king <04428> and all

<03605> the congregation <06951>.

5 So they established <05975> a decree <01697> to make

proclamation throughout all <03605> Israel <03478>, from

Beersheba <0884> even to Dan <01835>, that they should come

<0935> to keep <06213> the passover <06453> unto the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> at Jerusalem <03389>: for

they had not done <06213> [it] of a long <07230> [time in such

sort] as it was written <03789>.

6 So the posts <07323> went <03212> with the letters <0107>

from the king <04428> and his princes <08269> throughout all

<03605> Israel <03478> and Judah <03063>, and according to the

commandment <04687> of the king <04428>, saying <0559>, Ye

children <01121> of Israel <03478>, turn <07725> again <07725>

unto the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Abraham <085>, Isaac <03327>,

and Israel <03478>, and he will return <07725> to the remnant

<07604> of you, that are escaped <06413> out of the hand <03709>

of the kings <04428> of Assyria <0804>.

7 And be not ye like your fathers <01>, and like your brethren

<0251>, which <0834> trespassed <04603> against the LORD <03068>

God <0430> of their fathers <01>, [who] therefore gave <05414>

them up to desolation <08047>, as ye see <07200>.

8 Now <06258> be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers <01> [were,

but] yield yourselves <03027> unto the LORD <03068>, and enter

<0935> into his sanctuary <04720>, which <0834> he hath

sanctified <06942> for ever <05769>: and serve <05647> the LORD

<03068> your God <0430>, that the fierceness <02740> of his

wrath <0639> may turn <07725> away from you.

9 For if ye turn <07725> again <07725> unto the LORD <03068>,

your brethren <0251> and your children <01121> [shall find]

compassion <07356> before <06440> them that lead them captive

<07617>, so that they shall come <07725> again <07725> into this

<02063> land <0776>: for the LORD <03068> your God <0430> [is]

gracious <02587> and merciful <07349>, and will not turn <05493>

away [his] face <06440> from you, if <0518> ye return <07725>

unto him.

10 So the posts <07323> passed <05674> from city <05892> to

city <05892> through the country <0776> of Ephraim <0669> and

Manasseh <04519> even unto Zebulun <02074>: but they laughed

<07832> them to scorn, and mocked <03932> them.

 11 Nevertheless <0389> divers <0582> of Asher <0836> and

Manasseh <04519> and of Zebulun <02074> humbled <03665>

themselves, and came <0935> to Jerusalem <03389>.

 12 Also <01571> in Judah <03063> the hand <03027> of God <0430>

was to give <05414> them one <0259> heart <03820> to do <06213>

the commandment <04687> of the king <04428> and of the princes

<08269>, by the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

 13. And there assembled <0622> at Jerusalem <03389> much

<07227> people <05971> to keep <06213> the feast <02282> of

unleavened <04682> bread in the second <08145> month <02320>, a

very <03966> great <07230> congregation <06951>.

14 And they arose <06965> and took away <05493> the altars

<04196> that [were] in Jerusalem <03389>, and all <03605> the

altars for incense <06999> took they away <05493>, and cast

<07993> [them] into the brook <05158> Kidron <06939>.

15 Then they killed <07819> the passover <06453> on the

fourteenth [day] of the second <08145> month <02320>: and the

priests <03548> and the Levites <03881> were ashamed <03637>,

and sanctified <06942> themselves, and brought <0935> in the

burnt <05930> offerings into the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>.

16 And they stood <05975> in their place <05977> after their

manner <04941>, according to the law <08451> of Moses <04872>

the man <0376> of God <0430>: the priests <03548> sprinkled

<02236> the blood <01818>, [which they received] of the hand

<03027> of the Levites <03881>.

17 For [there were] many <07227> in the congregation <06951>

that were not sanctified <06942>: therefore the Levites <03881>

had the charge <05921> of the killing <07821> of the passovers

<06453> for every <03605> one [that was] not clean <02889>, to

sanctify <06942> [them] unto the LORD <03068>.

18 For a multitude <04768> of the people <05971>, [even] many

<07227> of Ephraim <0669>, and Manasseh <04519>, Issachar

<03485>, and Zebulun <02074>, had not cleansed <02891>

themselves, yet <03588> did they eat <0398> the passover <06453>

otherwise <03808> than it was written <03789>. But Hezekiah

<02396> prayed <06419> for them, saying <0559>, The good <02896>

LORD <03068> pardon <03722> every <03605> one

19 [That] prepareth <03559> his heart <03824> to seek <01875>

God <0430>, the LORD <03068> God <0430> of his fathers <01>,

though [he be] not [cleansed] according to the purification

<02893> of the sanctuary <06944>.

20 And the LORD <03068> hearkened <08085> to Hezekiah <02396>,

and healed <07495> the people <05971>.

 21. And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> that were

present <04672> at Jerusalem <03389> kept <06213> the feast

<02282> of unleavened <04682> bread seven <07651> days <03117>

with great <01419> gladness <08057>: and the Levites <03881> and

the priests <03548> praised <01984> the LORD <03068> day <03117>

by day <03117>, [singing] with loud <05797> instruments <03627>

unto the LORD <03068>.

22 And Hezekiah <02396> spake <01696> comfortably unto all

<03605> the Levites <03881> that taught <07919> the good <02896>

knowledge <07922> of the LORD <03068>: and they did eat <0398>

throughout the feast <04150> seven <07651> days <03117>,

offering <02076> peace <08002> offerings <02077>, and making

confession <03034> to the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their

fathers <01>.

23 And the whole <03605> assembly <06951> took counsel <03289>

to keep <06213> other <0312> seven <07651> days <03117>: and

they kept <06213> [other] seven <07651> days <03117> with

gladness <08057>.

24 For Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063> did give

<07311> to the congregation <06951> a thousand <0505> bullocks

<06499> and seven <07651> thousand <0505> sheep <06629>; and the

princes <08269> gave <07311> to the congregation <06951> a

thousand <0505> bullocks <06499> and ten <06235> thousand <0505>

sheep <06629>: and a great <07230> number of priests <03548>

sanctified <06942> themselves.

25 And all <03605> the congregation <06951> of Judah <03063>,

with the priests <03548> and the Levites <03881>, and all

<03605> the congregation <06951> that came <0935> out of Israel

<03478>, and the strangers <01616> that came <0935> out of the

land <0776> of Israel <03478>, and that dwelt <03427> in Judah

<03063>, rejoiced <08055>.

26 So there was great <01419> joy <08057> in Jerusalem <03389>:

for since the time <03117> of Solomon <08010> the son <01121> of

David <01732> king <04428> of Israel <03478> [there was] not the

like in Jerusalem <03389>.

27 Then the priests <03548> the Levites <03881> arose <06965>

and blessed <01288> the people <05971>: and their voice <06963>

was heard <08085>, and their prayer <08605> came <0935> [up] to

his holy <06944> dwelling <04583> place, [even] unto heaven

<08064>.

2Chronicles 31

 1. Now when all <03605> this <02063> was finished <03615>, all

<03605> Israel <03478> that were present <04672> went <03318>

out to the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and brake <07665>

the images <04676> in pieces, and cut <01438> down <01438> the

groves <0842>, and threw <05422> down <05422> the high <01116>

places and the altars <04196> out of all <03605> Judah <03063>

and Benjamin <01144>, in Ephraim <0669> also and Manasseh

<04519>, until <05704> they had utterly destroyed <03615> them

all. Then all <03605> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>

returned <07725>, every man <0376> to his possession <0272>,

into their own cities <05892>.

2 And Hezekiah <02396> appointed <05975> the courses <04256> of

the priests <03548> and the Levites <03881> after <05921> their

courses <04256>, every man <0376> according <06310> to his

service <05656>, the priests <03548> and Levites <03881> for

burnt <05930> offerings and for peace <08002> offerings, to

minister <08334>, and to give thanks <03034>, and to praise

<01984> in the gates <08179> of the tents <04264> of the LORD

<03068>.

3 [He appointed] also the king's <04428> portion <04521> of his

substance <07399> for the burnt <05930> offerings, [to wit], for

the morning <01242> and evening <06153> burnt <05930> offerings,

and the burnt <05930> offerings for the sabbaths <07676>, and

for the new <02320> moons <02320>, and for the set <04150>

feasts <04150>, as [it is] written <03789> in the law <08451> of

the LORD <03068>.

4 Moreover he commanded <0559> the people <05971> that dwelt

<03427> in Jerusalem <03389> to give <05414> the portion <04521>

of the priests <03548> and the Levites <03881>, that they might

be encouraged <02388> in the law <08451> of the LORD <03068>.

5 And as soon as the commandment <01697> came <06555> abroad

<06555>, the children <01121> of Israel <03478> brought <0935>

in abundance <07235> the firstfruits <07225> of corn <01715>,

wine <08492>, and oil <03323>, and honey <01706>, and of all

<03605> the increase <08393> of the field <07704>; and the tithe

<04643> of all <03605> [things] brought <0935> they in

abundantly <07230>.

6 And [concerning] the children <01121> of Israel <03478> and

Judah <03063>, that dwelt <03427> in the cities <05892> of Judah

<03063>, they also <01571> brought <0935> in the tithe <04643>

of oxen <01241> and sheep <06629>, and the tithe <04643> of holy

<06944> things which were consecrated <06942> unto the LORD

<03068> their God <0430>, and laid <05414> [them] by heaps

<06194>.

7 In the third <07992> month <02320> they began <02490> to lay

the foundation <03245> of the heaps <06194>, and finished

<03615> [them] in the seventh <07637> month <02320>.

8 And when Hezekiah <02396> and the princes <08269> came <0935>

and saw <07200> the heaps <06194>, they blessed <01288> the LORD

<03068>, and his people <05971> Israel <03478>.

9 Then Hezekiah <02396> questioned <01875> with the priests

<03548> and the Levites <03881> concerning <05921> the heaps

<06194>.

10 And Azariah <05838> the chief <07218> priest <03548> of the

house <01004> of Zadok <06659> answered <0559> him, and said

<0559>, Since [the people] began <02490> to bring <0935> the

offerings <08641> into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, we

have had enough <07644> to eat <0398>, and have left <03498>

plenty <07230>: for the LORD <03068> hath blessed <01288> his

people <05971>; and that which is left <03498> [is] this <02088>

great store <01995>.

 11. Then Hezekiah <02396> commanded <0559> to prepare <03559>

chambers <03957> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>; and

they prepared <03559> [them],

12 And brought <0935> in the offerings <08641> and the tithes

<04643> and the dedicated <06944> [things] faithfully <0530>:

over <05921> which Cononiah <03562> the Levite <03881> [was]

ruler <05057>, and Shimei <08096> his brother <0251> [was] the

next <04932>.

13 And Jehiel <03171>, and Azaziah <05812>, and Nahath <05184>,

and Asahel <06214>, and Jerimoth <03406>, and Jozabad <03107>,

and Eliel <0447>, and Ismachiah <03253>, and Mahath <04287>, and

Benaiah <01141>, [were] overseers <06496> under the hand <03027>

of Cononiah <03562> and Shimei <08096> his brother <0251>, at

the commandment <04662> of Hezekiah <02396> the king <04428>,

and Azariah <05838> the ruler <05057> of the house <01004> of

God <0430>.

14 And Kore <06981> the son <01121> of Imnah <03232> the Levite

<03881>, the porter <07778> toward the east <04217>, [was] over

<05921> the freewill <05071> offerings <08641> of God <0430>, to

distribute <05414> the oblations <08641> of the LORD <03068>,

and the most <06944> holy <06944> things.

15 And next him [were] Eden <05731>, and Miniamin <04509>, and

Jeshua <03442>, and Shemaiah <08098>, Amariah <0568>, and

Shecaniah <07935>, in the cities <05892> of the priests <03548>,

in [their] set <0530> office, to give <05414> to their brethren

<0251> by courses <04256>, as well to the great <01419> as to

the small <06996>:

16 Beside <0905> their genealogy <03188> of males <02145>, from

three <07969> years <08141> old <01121> and upward <04605>,

[even] unto every <03605> one that entereth <0935> into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, his daily <03117> portion

<01697> for their service <05656> in their charges <04931>

according to their courses <04256>;

17 Both to the genealogy <03188> of the priests <03548> by the

house <01004> of their fathers <01>, and the Levites <03881>

from twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121> and upward <04605>,

 in their charges <04931> by their courses <04256>;

18 And to the genealogy <03188> of all <03605> their little

<02945> ones, their wives <0802>, and their sons <01121>, and

their daughters <01121>, through <05674> all <03605> the

congregation <06951>: for in their set <0530> office they

sanctified <06942> themselves in holiness <06944>:

19 Also of the sons <01121> of Aaron <0175> the priests <03548>,

[which were] in the fields <07704> of the suburbs <04054> of

their cities <05892>, in every <03605> several city <05892>, the

men <0582> that were expressed <05344> by name <08034>, to give

<05414> portions <04490> to all <03605> the males <02145> among

the priests <03548>, and to all <03605> that were reckoned

<03187> by genealogies <03187> among the Levites <03881>.

20 And thus <02063> did <06213> Hezekiah <02396> throughout all

<03605> Judah <03063>, and wrought <06213> [that which was] good

<02896> and right <03477> and truth <0571> before <06440> the

LORD <03068> his God <0430>.

21 And in every <03605> work <04639> that he began <02490> in

the service <05656> of the house <01004> of God <0430>, and in

the law <08451>, and in the commandments <04687>, to seek

<01875> his God <0430>, he did <06213> [it] with all <03605> his

heart <03824>, and prospered <06743>.

2Chronicles 32

 1. After <0310> these <0428> things <01697>, and the

establishment <0571> thereof, Sennacherib <05576> king <04428>

of Assyria <0804> came <0935>, and entered <0935> into Judah

<03063>, and encamped <02583> against <05921> the fenced <01219>

cities <05892>, and thought <0559> to win <01234> them for

himself.

2 And when Hezekiah <02396> saw <07200> that Sennacherib

<05576> was come <0935>, and that he was purposed <06440> to

fight <04421> against <05921> Jerusalem <03389>,

3 He took counsel <03289> with his princes <08269> and his

mighty <01368> men to stop <05640> the waters <04325> of the

fountains <05869> which <0834> [were] without <02351> the city

<05892>: and they did help <05826> him.

4 So there was gathered <06908> much <07227> people <05971>

together, who stopped <05640> all <03605> the fountains <04599>,

and the brook <05158> that ran <07857> through <08432> the midst

<08432> of the land <0776>, saying <0559>, Why <04100> should

the kings <04428> of Assyria <0804> come <0935>, and find

<04672> much <07227> water <04325>?

5 Also he strengthened <02388> himself, and built <01129> up

all <03605> the wall <02346> that was broken <06555>, and raised

<05927> [it] up to the towers <04026>, and another <0312> wall

<02346> without <02351>, and repaired <02388> Millo <04407> [in]

the city <05892> of David <01732>, and made <06213> darts

<07973> and shields <04043> in abundance <07230>.

6 And he set <05414> captains <08269> of war <04421> over

<05921> the people <05971>, and gathered <06908> them together

to him in the street <07339> of the gate <08179> of the city

<05892>, and spake <01696> comfortably to them, saying <0559>,

7 Be strong <02388> and courageous <0553>, be not afraid

<03372> nor <0408> dismayed <02865> for the king <04428> of

Assyria <0804>, nor for all <03605> the multitude <01995> that

[is] with him: for [there be] more <07227> with us than with him:

8 With him [is] an arm <02220> of flesh <01320>; but with us

[is] the LORD <03068> our God <0430> to help <05826> us, and to

fight <03898> our battles <04421>. And the people <05971> rested

<05564> themselves upon the words <01697> of Hezekiah <02396>

king <04428> of Judah <03063>.

 9. After <0310> this <02088> did Sennacherib <05576> king

<04428> of Assyria <0804> send <07971> his servants <05650> to

Jerusalem <03389>, (but he [himself <01931> laid siege] against

<05921> Lachish <03923>, and all <03605> his power <04475> with

him,) unto Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and

unto all <03605> Judah <03063> that [were] at Jerusalem <03389>,

saying <0559>,

 10 Thus <03541> saith <0559> Sennacherib <05576> king <04428>

of Assyria <0804>, Whereon do ye trust <0982>, that ye abide

<03427> in the siege <04692> in Jerusalem <03389>?

11 Doth not Hezekiah <02396> persuade <05496> you to give

<05414> over yourselves to die <04191> by famine <07458> and by

thirst <06772>, saying <0559>, The LORD <03068> our God <0430>

shall deliver <05337> us out of the hand <03709> of the king

<04428> of Assyria <0804>?

12 Hath not the same <01931> Hezekiah <02396> taken <05493>

away <05493> his high <01116> places and his altars <04196>, and

commanded <0559> Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, saying

<0559>, Ye shall worship <07812> before <06440> one <0259> altar

<04196>, and burn <06999> incense <06999> upon it?

13 Know <03045> ye not what <04100> I and my fathers <01> have

done <06213> unto all <03605> the people <05971> of [other]

lands <0776>? were the gods <0430> of the nations <01471> of

those lands <0776> any ways able <03201> to deliver <05337>

their lands <0776> out of mine hand <03027>?

14 Who <04310> [was there] among all <03605> the gods <0430> of

those <0428> nations <01471> that my fathers <01> utterly

destroyed <02763>, that could <03201> deliver <05337> his people

<05971> out of mine hand <03027>, that your God <0430> should be

able <03201> to deliver <05337> you out of mine hand <03027>?

15 Now <06258> therefore let not Hezekiah <02396> deceive

<05377> you, nor <0408> persuade <05496> you on this <02063>

manner, neither <0408> yet believe <0539> him: for no <03808>

god <0433> of any <03605> nation <01471> or kingdom <04467> was

able <03201> to deliver <05337> his people <05971> out of mine

hand <03027>, and out of the hand <03027> of my fathers <01>:

how <0637> much less shall your God <0430> deliver <05337> you

out of mine hand <03027>?

16 And his servants <05650> spake <01696> yet <05750> [more]

against <05921> the LORD <03068> God <0430>, and against <05921>

his servant <05650> Hezekiah <02396>.

17 He wrote <03789> also letters <05612> to rail <02778> on the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, and to speak <0559>

against <05921> him, saying <0559>, As the gods <0430> of the

nations <01471> of [other] lands <0776> have not delivered

<05337> their people <05971> out of mine hand <03027>, so

<03651> shall not the God <0430> of Hezekiah <02396> deliver

<05337> his people <05971> out of mine hand <03027>.

 18 Then they cried <07121> with a loud <01419> voice <06963> in

the Jews <03066>' speech <03066> unto the people <05971> of

Jerusalem <03389> that [were] on <05921> the wall <02346>, to

affright <03372> them, and to trouble <0926> them; that they

might take <03920> the city <05892>.

19 And they spake <01696> against <0413> the God <0430> of

Jerusalem <03389>, as against <05921> the gods <0430> of the

people <05971> of the earth <0776>, [which were] the work

<04639> of the hands <03027> of man <0120>.

20 And for this <02063> [cause] Hezekiah <02396> the king

<04428>, and the prophet <05030> Isaiah <03470> the son <01121>

of Amoz <0531>, prayed <06419> and cried <02199> to heaven

<08064>.

21 And the LORD <03068> sent <07971> an angel <04397>, which

cut <03582> off all <03605> the mighty <01368> men of valour

<02428>, and the leaders <05057> and captains <08269> in the

camp <04264> of the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>. So he

returned <07725> with shame <01322> of face <06440> to his own

land <0776>. And when he was come <0935> into the house <01004>

of his god <0430>, they that came <03329> forth <03329> of his

own bowels <04578> slew <05307> him there <08033> with the sword

<02719>.

22 Thus the LORD <03068> saved <03467> Hezekiah <02396> and the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389> from the hand <03027>

of Sennacherib <05576> the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>, and

from the hand <03027> of all <03605> [other], and guided <05095>

them on every <05437> side <05439>.

23 And many <07227> brought <0935> gifts <04503> unto the LORD

<03068> to Jerusalem <03389>, and presents <04030> to Hezekiah

<02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063>: so that he was magnified

<05375> in the sight <05869> of all <03605> nations <01471> from

thenceforth.

 24. In those <01992> days <03117> Hezekiah <02396> was sick

<02470> to the death <04191>, and prayed <06419> unto the LORD

<03068>: and he spake <0559> unto him, and he gave <05414> him a

sign <04159>.

 25 But Hezekiah <02396> rendered <07725> not again <07725>

according to the benefit <01576> [done] unto him; for his heart

<03820> was lifted <01361> up: therefore there was wrath <07110>

upon him, and upon Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389>.

26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah <02396> humbled <03665> himself for

the pride <01363> of his heart <03820>, [both] he and the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>, so that the wrath

<07110> of the LORD <03068> came <0935> not upon them in the

days <03117> of Hezekiah <02396>.

 27 And Hezekiah <02396> had <01961> exceeding <03966> much

<07235> riches <06239> and honour <03519>: and he made <06213>

himself treasuries <0214> for silver <03701>, and for gold

<02091>, and for precious <03368> stones <068>, and for spices

<01314>, and for shields <04043>, and for all <03605> manner of

pleasant <02532> jewels <03627>;

28 Storehouses <04543> also for the increase <08393> of corn

<01715>, and wine <08492>, and oil <03323>; and stalls <0723>

for all <03605> manner of beasts <0929>, and cotes <0220> for

flocks <05739>.

29 Moreover he provided <06213> him cities <05892>, and

possessions <04735> of flocks <06629> and herds <01241> in

abundance <07230>: for God <0430> had given <05414> him

substance <07399> very <03966> much <07227>.

 30 This <01931> same <01931> Hezekiah <02396> also stopped

<05640> the upper <05945> watercourse of Gihon <01521>, and

brought <03474> it straight <03474> down <04295> to the west

<04628> side of the city <05892> of David <01732>. And Hezekiah

<02396> prospered <06743> in all <03605> his works <04639>.

31 Howbeit <03651> in [the business of] the ambassadors <03887>

of the princes <08269> of Babylon <0894>, who sent <07971> unto

him to enquire <01875> of the wonder <04159> that was [done] in

the land <0776>, God <0430> left <05800> him, to try <05254> him,

that he might know <03045> all <03605> [that was] in his heart

<03824>.

32 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Hezekiah <02396>,

and his goodness <02617>, behold <02009>, they [are] written

<03789> in the vision <02377> of Isaiah <03470> the prophet

<05030>, the son <01121> of Amoz <0531>, [and] in the book

<05612> of the kings <04428> of Judah <03063> and Israel <03478>.

33 And Hezekiah <02396> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>,

and they buried <06912> him in the chiefest <04608> of the

sepulchres <06913> of the sons <01121> of David <01732>: and all

<03605> Judah <03063> and the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem

<03389> did him <06213> honour <03519> at his death <04195>. And

Manasseh <04519> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

2Chronicles 33

 1. Manasseh <04519> [was] twelve <06240> years <08141> old

<08147> when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427>

fifty <02572> and five <02568> years <08141> in Jerusalem

<03389>:

2 But did <06213> [that which was] evil <07457> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, like unto the abominations <08441>

of the heathen <01471>, whom the LORD <03068> had cast <03423>

out before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

3 For he built <01129> again <07725> the high <01116> places

<01116> which Hezekiah <03169> his father <01> had broken

<03422> down <03422>, and he reared <06965> up altars <04196>

for Baalim <01168>, and made <06213> groves <0842>, and

worshipped <07812> all <03605> the host <06635> of heaven

<08064>, and served <05647> them.

4 Also he built <01129> altars <01196> in the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, whereof <0834> the LORD <03068> had said

<0559>, In Jerusalem <03389> shall <01961> my name <08034> be

for <05769> ever <05769>.

5 And he built <01129> altars <04196> for all <03605> the host

<06635> of heaven <08064> in the two <08147> courts <02691> of

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

6 And he caused <05674> his children <01121> to pass <05674>

through <05674> the fire <0784> in the valley <01516> of the son

<01121> of Hinnom <02011>: also he observed <06049> times

<06049>, and used enchantments <03772>, and used witchcraft

<03784>, and dealt <06213> with a familiar <0178> spirit <0178>,

and with wizards <03049>: he wrought <06213> much <07235> evil

<07451> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, to provoke

<03707> him to anger <03707>.

 7 And he set <07760> a carved <06459> image <06459>, the idol

<05566> which he had made <06213>, in the house <01004> of God

<0430>, of which <0834> God <0430> had said <0559> to David

<01732> and to Solomon <08010> his son <01121>, In this <02088>

house <01004>, and in Jerusalem <03389>, which I have chosen

<0977> before all <03605> the tribes <07626> of Israel <03478>,

will I put <07760> my name <08034> for <05865> ever <05865>:

 8 Neither <03808> will I any more <03254> remove <05493> the

foot <07272> of Israel <03478> from out <05921> of the land

<0127> which I have appointed <05978> for your fathers <07535>;

so <0518> that they will take heed <08104> to do <06213> all

<03605> that I have commanded <0834> them <04519>, according to

the whole <03605> law <08451> and the statutes <02706> and the

ordinances <04941> by the hand <03027> of Moses <04872>.

9 So Manasseh <04519> made Judah <03063> and the inhabitants

<03427> of Jerusalem <03389> to err <08582>, [and] to do <06213>

worse <07451> than the heathen <01471>, whom the LORD <03068>

had destroyed <08045> before <06440> the children <01121> of

Israel <03478>.

10 And <04519> the LORD spake <08141> to <01121> Manasseh, and

to his people <04427>: but they would <04427> not <02572>

hearken.

 11. Wherefore the <06213> LORD brought upon them <07451> the

captains of <05869> the host of <03068> the king of Assyria

<08441>, which took Manasseh <01471> among <0834> the thorns

<03068>, and bound <03423> him with <06440> fetters, and <01121>

carried him <03478> to Babylon.

12 And when he <01129> was <07725> in affliction <01116>, he

besought <0834> the <02396> LORD his God, and <05422> humbled

<05422> himself greatly before <06965> the God <04196> of his

<01168> fathers,

13 And prayed unto <01129> him <04196>: and he was <01004>

intreated of him <03068>, and <0834> heard his <03068>

supplication, and <0559> brought him <03389> again to Jerusalem

<08034> into his kingdom <05769>. Then Manasseh knew that the

LORD he [was] God.

 14 Now after this <01129> he <04196> built a <03605> wall

without <06635> the city <08064> of David, on <08147> the

<02691> west side of <01004> Gihon, in the <03068> valley, even

to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel,

and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in

all the fenced cities of Judah.

15 And he took away the <01121> strange gods <05674>, and the

idol <0784> out of the <01516> house of the <01121> LORD, and

<02011> all the altars <06049> that he had built <05172> in the

mount <03784> of the <06213> house of the LORD <0178>, and in

Jerusalem <03049>, and cast <06213> [them <07235>] out <07451>

of the city <05869>.

16 And he repaired <07760> the altar <06459> of the LORD

<05566>, and <0834> sacrificed thereon peace <06213> offerings

and thank <01004> offerings, and <0430> commanded Judah <0834>

to <0430> serve the <0559> LORD God <01732> of Israel.

17 Nevertheless <03808> the people did sacrifice still <05493>

in the <07272> high places <03478>, [yet] unto the LORD their

<0127> God <0834> only.

18 Now the <04519> rest of <03063> the acts of <03427> Manasseh,

and <03389> his prayer <08582> unto his God <06213>, and

<07451> the <04480> words of <01471> the <0834> seers that

<03068> spake to <08045> him <06440> in the <01121> name of

<03478> the LORD God of Israel, behold, they [are written] in

the book of the kings of Israel.

19 His prayer also <03068>, and <01696> [how God <04519>] was

intreated of him <05971>, and all his sin, and <07181> his

trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set

up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they

[are] written among the sayings of the seers.

20 So Manasseh slept <03068> with <0935> his fathers, and they

<08269> buried him in <06635> his own house <04428>: and Amon

<0804> his son <03920> reigned <04519> in his stead <02336>.

 21. Amon [was] two and twenty years <06887> old when <02470> he

began <03068> to reign <0430>, and reigned <03665> two years

<03966> in Jerusalem.

22 But he <06419> did [that which was] evil in <06279> the

sight of the <08085> LORD, as <08467> did Manasseh <07725> his

father <07725>: for Amon <03389> sacrificed unto all <04438> the

carved <04519> images <03045> which Manasseh his <03068> father

had made <0430>, and served them;

23 And humbled <0310> not <03651> himself before <01129> the

LORD <02346>, as <02435> Manasseh his <05892> father had <01732>

humbled himself; but <04628> Amon trespassed more <01521> and

more.

24 And his servants conspired <05493> against him <05236>, and

<0430> slew him in <05566> his own house.

25 But the people <01129> of the <04196> land slew all <03068>

them that <02076> had <05921> conspired <08002> against <02077>

king Amon <08426>; and the people <0559> of <03063> the land

<05647> made Josiah <03068> his <0430> son king <03478> in his

stead.

2Chronicles 34

 1. Josiah <061> [was] eight <05971> years old <02076> when

<05750> he began to <01116> reign, and he reigned in <03068>

Jerusalem one <0430> and <07535> thirty years.

2 And he did <03499> [that which was <01697>] right in <04519>

the sight of <08605> the LORD, and <0430> walked in the <01697>

ways of David <02374> his father <01696>, and declined [neither]

to the <08034> right hand, nor <03068> to <0430> the left

<03478>.

3 For in <08605> the eighth year of his reign <06279>, while he

was yet <03605> young, he began to seek <04604> after the God

<04725> of <0834> David his <01129> father <01116>: and in the

<05975> twelfth year <0842> he began <06456> to purge <06440>

Judah and Jerusalem <03665> from <02009> the high places <03789>,

and <05921> the groves <01697>, and the carved <02374> images,

and the molten images.

4 And they <04519> brake <07901> down the altars <01> of Baalim

in <06912> his presence; and the images <01004>, that [were

<0526>] on high <01121> above <04427> them, he cut <08478> down;

and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he

brake in pieces, and made dust [of them], and strowed [it] upon

the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.

 5 And <0526> he burnt the bones <06242> of <08141> the <01121>

priests upon their altars, and <04427> cleansed Judah <04427>

and Jerusalem <08141>.

6 And [so did <06213> he] in the cities <07451> of Manasseh,

and <05869> Ephraim, and Simeon <03068>, even unto <06213>

Naphtali <04519>, with their <01> mattocks round <0526> about

<02076>.

7 And when <03665> he had broken <06440> down the <03068>

altars and <04519> the groves <01>, and had <03665> beaten the

graven <0526> images <0819> into <07235> powder, and cut down

all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to

Jerusalem.

 8. Now in the <05650> eighteenth <07194> year <05921> of his

reign <04191>, when he had purged the <01004> land, and the

house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the

governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder,

to repair the house of the LORD his God.

9 And when they <05971> came to Hilkiah <0776> the <05221> high

<03605> priest, they delivered the <07194> money <05921> that

<04428> was <0526> brought into the <05971> house of God <0776>,

which the <02977> Levites that <01121> kept <04427> the doors

had <08478> gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of

all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and

they returned to Jerusalem.

 10 And <02977> they put <08083> [it <08141>] in <01121> the

hand of the workmen <04427> that had the <04427> oversight of

<03389> the <0259> house of <07970> the <08141> LORD, and they

gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to

repair and amend the house:

11 Even to the <06213> artificers and builders gave <03477>

they [it], to <05869> buy hewn stone <03068>, and timber <03212>

for couplings, and <01870> to floor <01732> the houses <01>

which the <05493> kings <03808> of Judah had <03225> destroyed

<03225>.

12 And the men did <08083> the <08141> work faithfully: and

<04427> the overseers of them <05750> [were <05288>] Jahath and

<02490> Obadiah, the <01875> Levites, of the <0430> sons of

<01732> Merari; and <01> Zechariah and Meshullam, of the <08141>

sons of <02490> the Kohathites <02891>, to <03063> set [it

<03389>] forward; and [other <01116> of] the Levites, all <0842>

that could skill <06456> of instruments of musick <04541>.

13 Also [they were <05422>] over <05422> the bearers <04196> of

burdens <01168>, and [were] overseers <06440> of all that

<02553> wrought the work in <04605> any <05921> manner of

service <01438>: and <01438> of the Levites <0842> [there were]

scribes <06456>, and officers, and porters <04541>.

 14. And when they brought <03318> out the money <03701> that

was brought <0935> into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

Hilkiah <02518> the priest <03548> found <04672> a book <05612>

of the law <08451> of the LORD <03068> [given] by Moses <04872>.

15 And Hilkiah <02518> answered <06030> and said <0559> to

Shaphan <08227> the scribe <05608>, I have found <04672> the

book <05612> of the law <08451> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>. And Hilkiah <02518> delivered <05414> the book <05612>

to Shaphan <08227>.

16 And Shaphan <08227> carried <0935> the book <05612> to the

king <04428>, and brought <07725> the king <04428> word <01697>

back <07725> again <05750>, saying <0559>, All <03605> that was

committed <05414> to thy servants <05650>, they do <06213> [it].

17 And they have gathered <05413> together the money <03701>

that was found <04672> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

and have delivered <05414> it into <05921> the hand <03027> of

the overseers <06485>, and to the hand <03027> of the workmen.

18 Then Shaphan <08227> the scribe <05608> told <05046> the

king <04428>, saying <0559>, Hilkiah <02518> the priest <03548>

hath given <05414> me a book <05612>. And Shaphan <08227> read

<07121> it before <06440> the king <04428>.

19 And it came <01961> to pass, when the king <04428> had heard

<08085> the words <01697> of the law <08451>, that he rent

<07167> his clothes <0899>.

20 And the king <04428> commanded <06680> Hilkiah <02518>, and

Ahikam <0296> the son <01121> of Shaphan <08227>, and Abdon

<05658> the son <01121> of Micah <04318>, and Shaphan <08227>

the scribe <05608>, and Asaiah <06222> a servant <05650> of the

king's <04428>, saying <0559>,

21 Go <03212>, enquire <01875> of the LORD <03068> for me, and

for them that are left <07604> in Israel <03478> and in Judah

<03063>, concerning <05921> the words <01697> of the book

<05612> that is found <04672>: for great <01419> [is] the wrath

<02534> of the LORD <03068> that is poured <05413> out upon us,

because our fathers <01> have not kept <08104> the word <01697>

of the LORD <03068>, to do <06213> after all <03605> that is

written <03789> in this <02088> book <05612>.

22 And Hilkiah <02518>, and [they] that the king <04428> [had

appointed], went <03212> to Huldah <02468> the prophetess

<05031>, the wife <0802> of Shallum <07967> the son <01121> of

Tikvath <08616>, the son <01121> of Hasrah <02641>, keeper

<08104> of the wardrobe <0899>; (now she dwelt <03427> in

Jerusalem <03389> in the college <04932>:) and they spake

<01696> to her to that [effect].

23 And she answered <0559> them, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, Tell <0559> ye the

man <0376> that sent <07971> you to me,

 24 Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Behold <02005>,

I will bring <0935> evil <07451> upon this <02088> place <04725>,

and upon the inhabitants <03427> thereof, [even] all <03605>

the curses <0423> that are written <03789> in the book <05612>

which <0834> they have read <07121> before <06440> the king

<04428> of Judah <03063>:

25 Because they have forsaken <05800> me, and have burned

<06999> incense <06999> unto other <0312> gods <0430>, that they

might provoke me to anger <03707> with all <03605> the works

<04639> of their hands <03027>; therefore my wrath <02534> shall

be poured <05413> out upon this <02088> place <04725>, and shall

not be quenched <03518>.

26 And as for the king <04428> of Judah <03063>, who sent

<07971> you to enquire <01875> of the LORD <03068>, so shall ye

say <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>

God <0430> of Israel <03478> [concerning] the words <01697>

which <0834> thou hast heard <08085>;

27 Because <03282> thine heart <03824> was tender <07401>, and

thou didst humble <03665> thyself before <06440> God <0430>,

when thou heardest <08085> his words <01697> against <05921>

this <02088> place <04725>, and against <05921> the inhabitants

<03427> thereof, and humbledst <03665> thyself before <06440> me,

and didst rend <07167> thy clothes <0899>, and weep <01058>

before <06440> me; I have even heard <08085> [thee] also <01571>,

 saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

28 Behold <02005>, I will gather <0622> thee to thy fathers

<01>, and thou shalt be gathered <0622> to thy grave <06913> in

peace <07965>, neither <03808> shall thine eyes <05869> see

<07200> all <03605> the evil <07451> that I will bring <0935>

upon this <02088> place <04725>, and upon the inhabitants

<03427> of the same. So they brought <07725> the king <04428>

word <01697> again <07725>.

 29. Then the king <04428> sent <07971> and gathered <0622>

together all <03605> the elders <02205> of Judah <03063> and

Jerusalem <03389>.

30 And the king <04428> went <05927> up into the house <01004>

of the LORD <03068>, and all <03605> the men <0376> of Judah

<03063>, and the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>, and

the priests <03548>, and the Levites <03881>, and all <03605>

the people <05971>, great <01419> and small <06996>: and he read

<07121> in their ears <0241> all <03605> the words <01697> of

the book <05612> of the covenant <01285> that was found <04672>

in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

31 And the king <04428> stood <05975> in his place <05977>, and

made <03772> a covenant <01285> before <06440> the LORD <03068>,

to walk <03212> after <0310> the LORD <03068>, and to keep

<08104> his commandments <04687>, and his testimonies <05715>,

and his statutes <02706>, with all <03605> his heart <03824>,

and with all <03605> his soul <05315>, to perform <06213> the

words <01697> of the covenant <01285> which are written <03789>

in this <02088> book <05612>.

32 And he caused all <03605> that were present <04672> in

Jerusalem <03389> and Benjamin <01144> to stand <05975> [to it].

And the inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389> did <06213>

according to the covenant <01285> of God <0430>, the God <0430>

of their fathers <01>.

33 And Josiah <02977> took away <05493> all <03605> the

abominations <08441> out of all <03605> the countries <0776>

that [pertained] to the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and

made all <03605> that were present <04672> in Israel <03478> to

serve <05647>, [even] to serve <05647> the LORD <03068> their

God <0430>. [And] all <03605> his days <03117> they departed

<05493> not from following <0310> the LORD <03068>, the God

<0430> of their fathers <01>.

2Chronicles 35

 1. Moreover Josiah <02977> kept <06213> a passover <06453> unto

the LORD <03068> in Jerusalem <03389>: and they killed <07819>

the passover <06453> on the fourteenth [day] of the first

<07223> month <02320>.

2 And he set <05975> the priests <03548> in their charges

<04931>, and encouraged <02388> them to the service <05656> of

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

3 And said <0559> unto the Levites <03881> that taught <04000>

all <03605> Israel <03478>, which were holy <06918> unto the

LORD <03068>, Put <05414> the holy <06944> ark <0727> in the

house <01004> which <0834> Solomon <08010> the son <01121> of

David <01732> king <04428> of Israel <03478> did build <01129>;

[it shall] not [be] a burden <04853> upon [your] shoulders

<03802>: serve <05647> now <06258> the LORD <03068> your God

<0430>, and his people <05971> Israel <03478>,

4 And prepare <03559> [yourselves] by the houses <01004> of

your fathers <01>, after your courses <04256>, according to the

writing <03791> of David <01732> king <04428> of Israel <03478>,

and according to the writing <04385> of Solomon <08010> his son

<01121>.

5 And stand <05975> in the holy <06944> [place] according to

the divisions <06391> of the families <01004> of the fathers

<01> of your brethren <0251> the people, and [after] the

division <02515> of the families <01004> of the Levites <03881>.

6 So kill <07819> the passover <06453>, and sanctify <06942>

yourselves, and prepare <03559> your brethren <0251>, that

[they] may do <06213> according to the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> by the hand <03027> of Moses <04872>.

7 And Josiah <02977> gave <07311> to the people, of the flock

<06629>, lambs <03532> and kids, all <03605> for the passover

<06453> offerings, for all <03605> that were present <04672>, to

the number <04557> of thirty <07970> thousand <0505>, and three

<07969> thousand <0505> bullocks <01241>: these <0428> [were] of

the king's <04428> substance <07399>.

8 And his princes <08269> gave <07311> willingly <05071> unto

the people <05971>, to the priests <03548>, and to the Levites

<03881>: Hilkiah <02518> and Zechariah <02148> and Jehiel

<03171>, rulers <05057> of the house <01004> of God <0430>, gave

<05414> unto the priests <03548> for the passover <06453>

offerings two thousand <0505> and six <08337> hundred <03967>

[small cattle], and three <07969> hundred <03967> oxen <01241>.

9 Conaniah <03562> also, and Shemaiah <08098> and Nethaneel

<05417>, his brethren <0251>, and Hashabiah <02811> and Jeiel

<03273> and Jozabad <03107>, chief <08269> of the Levites

<03881>, gave <07311> unto the Levites <03881> for passover

<06453> offerings five <02568> thousand <0505> [small cattle],

and five <02568> hundred <03967> oxen <01241>.

10 So the service <05656> was prepared <03559>, and the priests

<03548> stood <05975> in their place <05977>, and the Levites

<03881> in their courses <04256>, according to the king's

<04428> commandment <04687>.

11 And they killed <07819> the passover <06453>, and the

priests <03548> sprinkled <02236> [the blood] from their hands

<03027>, and the Levites <03881> flayed <06584> [them].

12 And they removed <05493> the burnt <05930> offerings, that

they might give <05414> according to the divisions <04653> of

the families <01004> of the people, to offer <07126> unto the

LORD <03068>, as [it is] written <03789> in the book <05612> of

Moses <04872>. And so <03651> [did they] with the oxen <01241>.

13 And they roasted <01310> the passover <06453> with fire

<0784> according to the ordinance <04941>: but the [other] holy

<06944> [offerings] sod <01310> they in pots <05518>, and in

caldrons <01731>, and in pans <06745>, and divided <07323>

[them] speedily among all <03605> the people.

14 And afterward <0310> they made ready <03559> for themselves

<01992>, and for the priests <03548>: because <03588> the

priests <03548> the sons <01121> of Aaron <0175> [were busied]

in offering <05927> of burnt <05930> offerings and the fat

<02459> until <05704> night <03915>; therefore the Levites

<03881> prepared <03559> for themselves <01992>, and for the

priests <03548> the sons <01121> of Aaron <0175>.

15 And the singers <07891> the sons <01121> of Asaph <0623>

[were] in their place <04612>, according to the commandment

<04687> of David <01732>, and Asaph <0623>, and Heman <01968>,

and Jeduthun <03038> the king's <04428> seer <02374>; and the

porters <07778> [waited] at every gate <08179>; they might not

depart <05493> from their service <05656>; for their brethren

<0251> the Levites <03881> prepared <03559> for them.

16 So all <03605> the service <05656> of the LORD <03068> was

prepared <03559> the same <01931> day <03117>, to keep <06213>

the passover <06453>, and to offer <05927> burnt <05930>

offerings upon the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068>, according

to the commandment <04687> of king <04428> Josiah <02977>.

17 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> that were present

<04672> kept <06213> the passover <06453> at that time <06256>,

and the feast <02282> of unleavened <04682> bread seven <07651>

days <03117>.

18 And there was no <03808> passover <06453> like <03644> to

that kept <06213> in Israel <03478> from the days <03117> of

Samuel <08050> the prophet <05030>; neither <03808> did <06213>

all <03605> the kings <04428> of Israel <03478> keep <06213>

such a passover <06453> as Josiah <02977> kept <06213>, and the

priests <03548>, and the Levites <03881>, and all <03605> Judah

<03063> and Israel <03478> that were present <04672>, and the

inhabitants <03427> of Jerusalem <03389>.

19 In the eighteenth year <08141> of the reign <04438> of

Josiah <02977> was this <02088> passover <06453> kept <06213>.

 20. After <0310> all <03605> this <02063>, when <0834> Josiah

<02977> had prepared <03559> the temple <01004>, Necho <05224>

king <04428> of Egypt <04714> came <05927> up to fight <03898>

against Carchemish <03751> by Euphrates <06578>: and Josiah

<02977> went <03318> out against <07125> him.

21 But he sent <07971> ambassadors <04397> to him, saying

<0559>, What <04100> have I to do with thee, thou king <04428>

of Judah <03063>? [I come] not against <05921> thee this day

<03117>, but against <0413> the house <01004> wherewith I have

war <04421>: for God <0430> commanded <0559> me to make haste

<0926>: forbear <02308> thee from [meddling with] God <0430>,

who <0834> [is] with me, that he destroy <07843> thee not.

22 Nevertheless Josiah <02977> would not turn <05437> his face

<06440> from him, but disguised <02664> himself, that he might

fight <03898> with him, and hearkened <08085> not unto the words

<01697> of Necho <05224> from the mouth <06310> of God <0430>,

and came <0935> to fight <03898> in the valley <01237> of

Megiddo <04023>.

23 And the archers <03384> shot <03384> at king <04428> Josiah

<02977>; and the king <04428> said <0559> to his servants

<05650>, Have <05674> me away <05674>; for I am sore <03966>

wounded <02470>.

24 His servants <05650> therefore took <05674> him out of that

chariot <04818>, and put <07392> him in the second <04932>

chariot <07393> that he had; and they brought <03212> him to

Jerusalem <03389>, and he died <04191>, and was buried <06912>

in [one of] the sepulchres <06913> of his fathers <01>. And all

<03605> Judah <03063> and Jerusalem <03389> mourned <056> for

Josiah <02977>.

 25 And Jeremiah <03414> lamented <06969> for Josiah <02977>:

and all <03605> the singing <07891> men and the singing <07891>

women spake <0559> of Josiah <02977> in their lamentations

<07015> to this day <03117>, and made <05414> them an ordinance

<02706> in Israel <03478>: and, behold <02009>, they [are]

written <03789> in the lamentations <07015>.

26 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Josiah <02977>,

and his goodness <02617>, according to [that which was] written

<03789> in the law <08451> of the LORD <03068>,

27 And his deeds <01697>, first <07223> and last <0314>, behold

<02009>, they [are] written <03789> in the book <05612> of the

kings <04428> of Israel <03478> and Judah <03063>.

2Chronicles 36

 1. Then the people <05971> of the land <0776> took <03947>

Jehoahaz <03059> the son <01121> of Josiah <02977>, and made him

king <04427> in his father's <01> stead <08478> in Jerusalem

<03389>.

2 Jehoahaz <03059> [was] twenty <06242> and three <07969> years

<08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he

reigned <04427> three <07969> months <02320> in Jerusalem

<03389>.

3 And the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> put <05493> him down

<05493> at Jerusalem <03389>, and condemned <06064> the land

<0776> in an hundred <03967> talents <03603> of silver <03701>

and a talent <03603> of gold <02091>.

4 And the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> made Eliakim <0471> his

brother <0251> king <04427> over <05921> Judah <03063> and

Jerusalem <03389>, and turned <05437> his name <08034> to

Jehoiakim <03079>. And Necho <05224> took <03947> Jehoahaz

<03059> his brother <0251>, and carried <0935> him to Egypt

<04714>.

5 Jehoiakim <03079> [was] twenty <06242> and five <02568> years

<08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he

reigned <04427> eleven years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>: and

he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068> his God <0430>.

 6 Against <05921> him came <05927> up Nebuchadnezzar <05019>

king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, and bound <0631> him in fetters

<05178>, to carry <03212> him to Babylon <0894>.

7 Nebuchadnezzar <05019> also carried <0935> of the vessels

<03627> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> to Babylon

<0894>, and put <05414> them in his temple <01964> at Babylon

<0894>.

8 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jehoiakim <03079>,

and his abominations <08441> which <0834> he did <06213>, and

that which was found <04672> in him, behold <02009>, they [are]

written <03789> in the book <05612> of the kings <04428> of

Israel <03478> and Judah <03063>: and Jehoiachin <03078> his son

<01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

 9 Jehoiachin <03078> [was] eight <08083> years <08141> old

<01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427>

three <07969> months <02320> and ten <06235> days <03117> in

Jerusalem <03389>: and he did <06213> [that which was] evil

<07451> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>.

10 And when the year <08141> was expired <08666>, king <04428>

Nebuchadnezzar <05019> sent <07971>, and brought <0935> him to

Babylon <0894>, with the goodly <02532> vessels <03627> of the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and made Zedekiah <06667> his

brother <0251> king <04427> over <05921> Judah <03063> and

Jerusalem <03389>.

 11. Zedekiah <06667> [was] one <0259> and twenty <06242> years

<08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and reigned

<04427> eleven years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>.

12 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068> his God <0430>, [and] humbled

<03665> not himself before <06440> Jeremiah <03414> the prophet

<05030> [speaking] from the mouth <06310> of the LORD <03068>.

13 And he also <01571> rebelled <04775> against king <04428>

Nebuchadnezzar <05019>, who <0834> had made him swear <07650> by

God <0430>: but he stiffened <07185> his neck <06203>, and

hardened <0553> his heart <03824> from turning <07257> unto the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

14 Moreover <01571> all <03605> the chief <08269> of the

priests <03548>, and the people <05971>, transgressed <04603>

very much <07227> after all <03605> the abominations <08441> of

the heathen <01471>; and polluted <02930> the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068> which <0834> he had hallowed <06942> in

Jerusalem <03389>.

15 And the LORD <03068> God <0430> of their fathers <01> sent

<07971> to them by his messengers <04397>, rising <07925> up

betimes <07925>, and sending <07971>; because <03588> he had

compassion <02550> on <05921> his people <05971>, and on <05921>

his dwelling <04583> place:

16 But they mocked <03931> the messengers <04397> of God <0430>,

and despised <0959> his words <01697>, and misused <08591> his

prophets <05030>, until <05704> the wrath <02534> of the LORD

<03068> arose <05927> against his people <05971>, till <05704>

[there was] no <0369> remedy <04832>.

17 Therefore he brought <05927> upon them the king <04428> of

the Chaldees <03778>, who slew <02026> their young <0970> men

with the sword <02719> in the house <01004> of their sanctuary

<04720>, and had no <03808> compassion <02550> upon young <0970>

man or maiden <01330>, old <02205> man, or him that stooped

<03486> for age <03485>: he gave <05414> [them] all <03605> into

his hand <03027>.

18 And all <03605> the vessels <03627> of the house <01004> of

God <0430>, great <01419> and small <06996>, and the treasures

<0214> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and the

treasures <0214> of the king <04428>, and of his princes <08269>;

all <03605> [these] he brought <0935> to Babylon <0894>.

19 And they burnt <08313> the house <01004> of God <0430>, and

brake <05422> down <05422> the wall <02346> of Jerusalem <03389>,

and burnt <08313> all <03605> the palaces <0759> thereof with

fire <0784>, and destroyed <07843> all <03605> the goodly

<04261> vessels <03627> thereof.

20 And them that had escaped <07611> from the sword <02719>

carried <01473> he away <01540> to Babylon <0894>; where they

were servants <05650> to him and his sons <01121> until <05704>

the reign <04427> of the kingdom <04438> of Persia <06539>:

21 To fulfil <04390> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> by

the mouth <06310> of Jeremiah <03414>, until <05704> the land

<0776> had enjoyed <07521> her sabbaths <07676>: [for] as long

<03117> as she lay desolate <08074> she kept <07673> sabbath

<07673>, to fulfil <04390> threescore <07657> and ten years

<08141>.

 22. Now in the first <0259> year <08141> of Cyrus <03566> king

<04428> of Persia <06539>, that the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> [spoken <01696>] by the mouth <06310> of Jeremiah

<03414> might be accomplished <03615>, the LORD <03068> stirred

<05782> up the spirit <07307> of Cyrus <03566> king <04428> of

Persia <06539>, that he made a proclamation throughout all

<03605> his kingdom <04438>, and [put it] also <01571> in

writing <04385>, saying <0559>,

 23 Thus <03541> saith <0559> Cyrus <03566> king <04428> of

Persia <06539>, All <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the earth

<0776> hath the LORD <03068> God <0430> of heaven <08064> given

<05414> me; and he hath charged <06485> me to build <01129> him

an house <01004> in Jerusalem <03389>, which <0834> [is] in

Judah <03063>. Who <04310> [is there] among you of all <03605>

his people <05971>? The LORD <03068> his God <0430> [be] with

him, and let him go <05927> up.
