2Kings 1

 1. Then Moab <04124> rebelled <06586> against Israel <03478>

after <0310> the death <04194> of Ahab <0256>.

 2 And Ahaziah <0274> fell <05307> down through <01157> a

lattice <07639> in his upper <05944> chamber <05944> that [was]

in Samaria <08111>, and was sick <02470>: and he sent <07971>

messengers <04397>, and said <0559> unto them, Go <03212>,

enquire <01875> of Baalzebub <01176> the god <0430> of Ekron

<06138> whether <0518> I shall recover <02421> of this <02088>

disease <02483>.

3 But the angel <04397> of the LORD <03068> said <01696> to

Elijah <0452> the Tishbite <08664>, Arise <06965>, go <05927> up

to meet <07125> the messengers <04397> of the king <04428> of

Samaria <08111>, and say <01696> unto them, [Is it] not because

[there is] not a God <0430> in Israel <03478>, [that] ye go

<01980> to enquire <01875> of Baalzebub <01176> the god <0430>

of Ekron <06138>?

4 Now therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, Thou shalt not come <03381> down <03381> from that bed

<04296> on which <0834> thou art gone <05927> up, but shalt

surely <03588> die <04191>. And Elijah <0452> departed <03212>.

5 And when the messengers <04397> turned <07725> back <07725>

unto him, he said <0559> unto them, Why <04100> are ye now

<02088> turned <07725> back <07725>?

6 And they said <0559> unto him, There came <05927> a man

<0376> up to meet <07125> us, and said <0559> unto us, Go

<03212>, turn <07725> again <07725> unto the king <04428> that

sent <07971> you, and say <01696> unto him, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068>, [Is it] not because [there is] not a

God <0430> in Israel <03478>, [that] thou sendest <07971> to

enquire <01875> of Baalzebub <01176> the god <0430> of Ekron

<06138>? therefore <03651> thou shalt not come <03381> down

<03381> from that bed <04296> on which <0834> thou art gone

<05927> up, but shalt surely <03588> die <04191>.

7 And he said <01696> unto them, What <04100> manner <04941> of

man <0376> [was he] which <0834> came <05927> up to meet <07125>

you, and told <01696> you these <0428> words <01697>?

8 And they answered <0559> him, [He was] an hairy man <0376>,

and girt <0247> with a girdle <0232> of leather <05785> about

his loins <04975>. And he said <0559>, It [is] Elijah <0452> the

Tishbite <08664>.

 9. Then the king <04428> sent <07971> unto him a captain

<08269> of fifty <02572> with his fifty <02572>. And he went

<05927> up to him: and, behold <02009>, he sat <03427> on

<05921> the top <07218> of an hill <02022>. And he spake <01696>

unto him, Thou man <0376> of God <0430>, the king <04428> hath

said <01696>, Come <03381> down <03381>.

10 And Elijah <0452> answered <06030> and said <01696> to the

captain <08269> of fifty <02572>, If <0518> I [be] a man <0376>

of God <0430>, then let fire <0784> come <03381> down <03381>

from heaven <08064>, and consume <0398> thee and thy fifty

<02572>. And there came <03381> down <03381> fire <0784> from

heaven <08064>, and consumed <0398> him and his fifty <02572>.

11 Again <07725> also he sent <07971> unto him another <0312>

captain <08269> of fifty <02572> with his fifty <02572>. And he

answered <06030> and said <01696> unto him, O man <0376> of God

<0430>, thus <03541> hath the king <04428> said <0559>, Come

<03381> down <03381> quickly <04120>.

12 And Elijah <0452> answered <06030> and said <01696> unto

them, If <0518> I [be] a man <0376> of God <0430>, let fire

<0784> come <03381> down <03381> from heaven <08064>, and

consume <0398> thee and thy fifty <02572>. And the fire <0784>

of God <0430> came <03381> down <03381> from heaven <08064>, and

consumed <0398> him and his fifty <02572>.

 13 And he sent <07971> again <07725> a captain <08269> of the

third <07992> fifty <02572> with his fifty <02572>. And the

third <07992> captain <08269> of fifty <02572> went <05927> up,

and came <0935> and fell <03766> on <05921> his knees <01290>

before <05048> Elijah <0452>, and besought <02603> him, and said

<01696> unto him, O man <0376> of God <0430>, I pray <04994>

thee, let my life <05315>, and the life of these <0428> fifty

<02572> thy servants <05650>, be precious <03365> in thy sight

<05869>.

 14 Behold <02009>, there came <03381> fire <0784> down <03381>

from heaven <08064>, and burnt <0398> up the two <08147>

captains <08269> of the former <07223> fifties <02572> with

their fifties <02572>: therefore let my life <05315> now <06258>

be precious <03365> in thy sight <05869>.

15 And the angel <04397> of the LORD <03068> said <01696> unto

Elijah <0452>, Go <03381> down <03381> with him: be not afraid

<03372> of him. And he arose <06965>, and went <03381> down

<03381> with him unto the king <04428>.

16 And he said <01696> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>, Forasmuch as thou hast sent <07971> messengers

<04397> to enquire <01875> of Baalzebub <01176> the god <0430>

of Ekron <06138>, [is it] not because [there is] no <0369> God

<0430> in Israel <03478> to enquire <01875> of his word <01697>?

therefore thou shalt not come <03381> down <03381> off that bed

<04296> on which <0834> thou art gone <05927> up, but shalt

surely <03588> die <04191>.

17 So he died <04191> according to the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> which <0834> Elijah <0452> had spoken <01696>. And

Jehoram <03088> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478> in the

second <08147> year <08141> of Jehoram <03088> the son <01121>

of Jehoshaphat <03092> king <04428> of Judah <03063>; because

<03588> he had <01961> no <03808> son <01121>.

18 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Ahaziah <0274>

which <0834> he did <06213>, [are] they not written <03789> in

the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428>

of Israel <03478>?

2Kings 2

 1. And it came <01961> to pass, when the LORD <03068> would

take <05927> up Elijah <0452> into heaven <08064> by a whirlwind

<05591>, that Elijah <0452> went <03212> with Elisha <0477> from

Gilgal <01537>.

2 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto Elisha <0477>, Tarry

<03427> here <06311>, I pray <04994> thee; for the LORD <03068>

hath sent <07971> me to Bethel <01008>. And Elisha <0477> said

<0559> [unto him, As] the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, and [as]

thy soul <05315> liveth <02416>, I will not leave <05800> thee.

So they went <03381> down <03381> to Bethel <01008>.

3 And the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> that [were] at

Bethel <01008> came <03318> forth <03318> to Elisha <0477>, and

said <0559> unto him, Knowest <03045> thou that the LORD <03068>

will take <03947> away thy master <0113> from thy head <07218>

to day <03117>? And he said <0559>, Yea <01571>, I know <03045>

[it]; hold <02814> ye your peace <02814>.

4 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto him, Elisha <0477>, tarry

<03427> here <06311>, I pray <04994> thee; for the LORD <03068>

hath sent <07971> me to Jericho <03405>. And he said <0559>,

[As] the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, and [as] thy soul <05315>

liveth <02416>, I will not leave <05800> thee. So they came

<0935> to Jericho <03405>.

5 And the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> that [were] at

Jericho <03405> came <05066> to Elisha <0477>, and said <0559>

unto him, Knowest <03045> thou that the LORD <03068> will take

<03947> away thy master <0113> from thy head <07218> to day

<03117>? And he answered <0559>, Yea <01571>, I know <03045>

[it]; hold <02814> ye your peace <02814>.

 6 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto him, Tarry <03427>, I pray

<04994> thee, here <06311>; for the LORD <03068> hath sent

<07971> me to Jordan <03383>. And he said <0559>, [As] the LORD

<03068> liveth <02416>, and [as] thy soul <05315> liveth <02416>,

I will not leave <05800> thee. And they two <08147> went

<03212> on.

7 And fifty <02572> men <0376> of the sons <01121> of the

prophets <05030> went <01980>, and stood <05975> to view <05048>

afar <07350> off: and they two <08147> stood <05975> by Jordan

<03383>.

8 And Elijah <0452> took <03947> his mantle <0155>, and wrapped

<01563> [it] together, and smote <05221> the waters <04325>, and

they were divided <02673> hither and thither <02008>, so that

they two <08147> went <05674> over <05674> on dry <02724> ground.

 9. And it came <01961> to pass, when they were gone <05674>

over <05674>, that Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto Elisha <0477>,

Ask <07592> what <04100> I shall do <06213> for thee, before

<02962> I be taken <03947> away from thee. And Elisha <0477>

said <0559>, I pray <04994> thee, let a double <08147> portion

<06310> of thy spirit <07307> be upon me.

 10 And he said <0559>, Thou hast asked <07592> a hard <07185>

thing: [nevertheless], if <0518> thou see <07200> me [when I am]

taken <03947> from thee, it shall be so <03651> unto thee; but

if <0518> not, it shall not be [so].

11 And it came <01961> to pass, as they still went <01980> on,

and talked <01696>, that, behold <02009>, [there appeared] a

chariot <07393> of fire <0784>, and horses <05483> of fire

<0784>, and parted <06504> them both <08147> asunder <0996>; and

Elijah <0452> went <05927> up by a whirlwind <05591> into heaven

<08064>.

12 And Elisha <0477> saw <07200> [it], and he cried <06817>, My

father <01>, my father <01>, the chariot <07393> of Israel

<03478>, and the horsemen <06571> thereof. And he saw <07200>

him no <03808> more <05750>: and he took hold <02388> of his own

<0249> clothes <0899>, and rent <07167> them in two <08147>

pieces <07168>.

 13. He took <07311> up also the mantle <0155> of Elijah <0452>

that fell <05307> from him, and went <07725> back <07725>, and

stood <05975> by the bank <08193> of Jordan <03383>;

14 And he took <03947> the mantle <0155> of Elijah <0452> that

fell <05307> from him, and smote <05221> the waters <04325>, and

said <0559>, Where <0346> [is] the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Elijah <0452>? and when he also had smitten <05221> the waters

<04325>, they parted <02673> hither and thither <02008>: and

Elisha <0477> went <05674> over <05674>.

15 And when the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> which

<0834> [were] to view <05048> at Jericho <03405> saw <07200> him,

they said <0559>, The spirit <07307> of Elijah <0452> doth rest

<05117> on <05921> Elisha <0477>. And they came <0935> to meet

<07125> him, and bowed <07812> themselves to the ground <0776>

before him.

16 And they said <0559> unto him, Behold <02009> now <04994>,

there be with thy servants <05650> fifty <02572> strong <02428>

men; let them go <03212>, we pray <04994> thee, and seek <01245>

thy master <0113>: lest <06435> peradventure the Spirit <07307>

of the LORD <03068> hath taken <05375> him up, and cast <07993>

him upon some <0259> mountain <02022>, or <0176> into some

<0259> valley <01516>. And he said <0559>, Ye shall not send

<07971>.

17 And when they urged <06484> him till <05704> he was ashamed

<0954>, he said <0559>, Send <07971>. They sent <07971>

therefore fifty <02572> men <0376>; and they sought <01245>

three <07969> days <03117>, but found <04672> him not.

18 And when they came <07725> again <07725> to him, (for he

tarried <03427> at Jericho <03405>,) he said <0559> unto them,

Did I not say <0559> unto you, Go <03212> not?

 19. And the men <0582> of the city <05892> said <0559> unto

Elisha <0477>, Behold <02009>, I pray <04994> thee, the

situation <04186> of this <02088> city <05892> [is] pleasant

<02896>, as my lord <0113> seeth <07200>: but the water <04325>

[is] naught <07451>, and the ground <0776> barren <07921>.

 20 And he said <0559>, Bring <03947> me a new <02319> cruse

<06746>, and put <07760> salt <04417> therein <08033>. And they

brought <0935> [it] to him.

21 And he went <03318> forth <03318> unto the spring <04161> of

the waters <04325>, and cast <07993> the salt <04417> in there,

and said <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, I

have healed <07495> these <0428> waters <04325>; there shall not

be from thence <08033> any more <05750> death <04194> or barren

<07921> [land].

22 So the waters <04325> were healed <07495> unto this <02088>

day <03117>, according to the saying <01697> of Elisha <0477>

which <0834> he spake <01696>.

23 And he went <05927> up from thence <08033> unto Bethel

<01008>: and as he was going <05927> up by the way <01870>,

there came <03318> forth <03318> little <06996> children <05288>

out of the city <05892>, and mocked <07046> him, and said <0559>

unto him, Go <05927> up, thou bald <07142> head; go <05927> up,

thou bald <07142> head.

24 And he turned <06437> back <0310>, and looked <07200> on

them, and cursed <07043> them in the name <08034> of the LORD

<03068>. And there came <03318> forth <03318> two <08147> she

bears <01677> out of the wood <03293>, and tare <01234> forty

<0705> and two <08147> children <03206> of them.

25 And he went <03212> from thence <08033> to mount <02022>

Carmel <03760>, and from thence <08033> he returned <07725> to

Samaria <08111>.

2Kings 3

 1. Now Jehoram <03088> the son <01121> of Ahab <0256> began to

reign <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111> the

eighteenth year <08141> of Jehoshaphat <03092> king <04428> of

Judah <03063>, and reigned <04427> twelve years <08141>.

2 And he wrought <06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of

the LORD <03068>; but not like his father <01>, and like his

mother <0517>: for he put <05493> away <05493> the image <04676>

of Baal <01168> that his father <01> had made <06213>.

3 Nevertheless <07535> he cleaved <01692> unto the sins <02403>

of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, which

<0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>; he departed <05493>

not therefrom.

 4 And Mesha <04337> king <04428> of Moab <04124> was a

sheepmaster <05349>, and rendered <07725> unto the king <04428>

of Israel <03478> an hundred <03967> thousand <0505> lambs

<03733>, and an hundred <03967> thousand <0505> rams <0352>,

with the wool <06785>.

5 But it came <01961> to pass, when Ahab <0256> was dead

<04194>, that the king <04428> of Moab <04124> rebelled <06586>

against the king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

 6. And king <04428> Jehoram <03088> went <03318> out of Samaria

<08111> the same <01931> time <03117>, and numbered <06485> all

<03605> Israel <03478>.

7 And he went <03212> and sent <07971> to Jehoshaphat <03092>

the king <04428> of Judah <03063>, saying <0559>, The king

<04428> of Moab <04124> hath rebelled <06586> against me: wilt

thou go <03212> with me against <0413> Moab <04124> to battle

<04421>? And he said <0559>, I will go <05927> up: I [am] as

thou [art], my people <05971> as thy people <05971>, [and] my

horses <05483> as thy horses <05483>.

8 And he said <0559>, Which way <01870> shall we go <05927> up?

And he answered <0559>, The way <01870> through the wilderness

<04057> of Edom <0123>.

9 So the king <04428> of Israel <03478> went <03212>, and the

king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and the king <04428> of Edom

<0123>: and they fetched a compass <05437> of seven <07651> days

<03117>' journey <01870>: and there was no <03808> water <04325>

for the host <04264>, and for the cattle <0929> that followed

<07272> them.

10 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559>, Alas

<0160>! that the LORD <03068> hath called <07121> these <0428>

three <07969> kings <04428> together, to deliver <05414> them

into the hand <03027> of Moab <04124>!

11 But Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559>, [Is there] not here

<06311> a prophet <05030> of the LORD <03068>, that we may

enquire <01875> of the LORD <03068> by him? And one <0259> of

the king <04428> of Israel's <03478> servants <05650> answered

<06030> and said <0559>, Here <06311> [is] Elisha <0477> the son

<01121> of Shaphat <08202>, which <0834> poured <03332> water

<04325> on <05921> the hands <03027> of Elijah <0452>.

12 And Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559>, The word <01697> of the

LORD <03068> is with him. So the king <04428> of Israel <03478>

and Jehoshaphat <03092> and the king <04428> of Edom <0123> went

<03381> down <03381> to him.

13 And Elisha <0477> said <0559> unto the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>, What <04100> have I to do with thee? get <03212>

thee to the prophets <05030> of thy father <01>, and to the

prophets <05030> of thy mother <0517>. And the king <04428> of

Israel <03478> said <0559> unto him, Nay <0408>: for the LORD

<03068> hath called <07121> these <0428> three <07969> kings

<04428> together, to deliver <05414> them into the hand <03027>

of Moab <04124>.

14 And Elisha <0477> said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068> of

hosts <06635> liveth <02416>, before <06440> whom <0834> I stand

<05975>, surely <03588>, were it not that I regard <05375> the

presence <06440> of Jehoshaphat <03092> the king <04428> of

Judah <03063>, I would not look <05027> toward <0413> thee, nor

<0518> see <07200> thee.

 15 But now <06258> bring <03947> me a minstrel <05059>. And it

came <01961> to pass, when the minstrel <05059> played <05059>,

that the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> upon him.

16 And he said <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, Make <06213> this <02088> valley <05158> full of

ditches <01356>.

17 For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Ye shall not

see <07200> wind <07307>, neither <03808> shall ye see <07200>

rain <01653>; yet that valley <05158> shall be filled <04390>

with water <04325>, that ye may drink <08354>, both ye, and your

cattle <04735>, and your beasts <0929>.

18 And this <02063> is [but] a light <07043> thing in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>: he will deliver <05414> the

Moabites <04124> also into your hand <03027>.

19 And ye shall smite <05221> every <03605> fenced <04013> city

<05892>, and every <03605> choice <04005> city <05892>, and

shall fell <05307> every <03605> good <02896> tree <06086>, and

stop <05640> all <03605> wells <04599> of water <04325>, and mar

<03510> every <03605> good <02896> piece <02513> of land with

stones <068>.

 20. And it came <01961> to pass in the morning <01242>, when

the meat offering <04503> was offered <05927>, that, behold

<02009>, there came <0935> water <04325> by the way <01870> of

Edom <0123>, and the country <0776> was filled <04390> with

water <04325>.

21 And when all <03605> the Moabites <04124> heard <08085> that

the kings <04428> were come <05927> up to fight <03898> against

them, they gathered <06817> all <03605> that were able <02296>

to put <02296> on armour <02290>, and upward <04605>, and stood

<05975> in the border <01366>.

22 And they rose <07925> up early <07925> in the morning

<01242>, and the sun <08121> shone <02224> upon the water

<04325>, and the Moabites <04124> saw <07200> the water <04325>

on the other <05048> side <05048> [as] red <0122> as blood

<01818>:

23 And they said <0559>, This <02088> [is] blood <01818>: the

kings <04428> are surely slain <02717>, and they have smitten

<05221> one <0376> another <07453>: now <06258> therefore, Moab

<04124>, to the spoil <07998>.

24 And when they came <0935> to the camp <04264> of Israel

<03478>, the Israelites <03478> rose <06965> up and smote

<05221> the Moabites <04124>, so that they fled <05127> before

<06440> them: but they went <05221> forward smiting <05221> the

Moabites <04124>, even in [their] country.

25 And they beat <02040> down <02040> the cities <05892>, and

on every <03605> good <02896> piece <02513> of land cast <07993>

every man <0376> his stone <068>, and filled <04390> it; and

they stopped <05640> all <03605> the wells <04599> of water

<04325>, and felled <05307> all <03605> the good <02896> trees

<06086>: only in Kirharaseth <07025> left <07604> they the

stones <068> thereof; howbeit the slingers <07051> went <05437>

about <05437> [it], and smote <05221> it.

26 And when the king <04428> of Moab <04124> saw <07200> that

the battle <04421> was too sore <02388> for him, he took <03947>

with him seven <07651> hundred <03967> men <0376> that drew

<08025> swords <02719>, to break <01234> through <01234> [even]

unto the king <04428> of Edom <0123>: but they could <03201> not.

27 Then he took <03947> his eldest <01060> son <01121> that

should have reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>, and offered

<05927> him [for] a burnt <05930> offering upon the wall <02346>.

And there was great <01419> indignation <07110> against <05921>

Israel <03478>: and they departed <05265> from him, and returned

<07725> to [their own] land <0776>.

2Kings 4

 1. Now there cried <06817> a certain <0259> woman <0802> of the

wives <0802> of the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> unto

Elisha <0477>, saying <0559>, Thy servant <05650> my husband

<0376> is dead <04191>; and thou knowest <03045> that thy

servant <05650> did fear <03373> the LORD <03068>: and the

creditor <05383> is come <0935> to take <03947> unto him my two

<08147> sons <03206> to be bondmen <05650>.

 2 And Elisha <0477> said <0559> unto her, What <04100> shall I

do <06213> for thee? tell <05046> me, what <04100> hast <03426>

thou in the house <01004>? And she said <0559>, Thine handmaid

<08198> hath not any <03605> thing in the house <01004>, save

<03467> a pot <0610> of oil <08081>.

3 Then he said <0559>, Go <03212>, borrow <07592> thee vessels

<03627> abroad <02351> of all <03605> thy neighbours <07934>,

[even] empty <07385> vessels <03627>; borrow not a few <04591>.

4 And when thou art come <0935> in, thou shalt shut <05462> the

door <01817> upon thee and upon thy sons <01121>, and shalt pour

<03332> out into <05921> all <03605> those <0428> vessels

<03627>, and thou shalt set <05265> aside <05265> that which is

full <04392>.

5 So she went <03212> from him, and shut <05462> the door

<01817> upon her and upon her sons <01121>, who <01992> brought

<05066> [the vessels] to her; and she poured <03332> out.

6 And it came <01961> to pass, when the vessels <03627> were

full <04390>, that she said <0559> unto her son <01121>, Bring

<05066> me yet a vessel <03627>. And he said <0559> unto her,

[There is] not a vessel <03627> more <05750>. And the oil

<08081> stayed <05975>.

7 Then she came <0935> and told <05046> the man <0376> of God

<0430>. And he said <0559>, Go <03212>, sell <04376> the oil

<08081>, and pay <07999> thy debt <05386>, and live <02421> thou

and thy children <01121> of the rest <03498>.

 8. And it fell <01961> on a day <03117>, that Elisha <0477>

passed <05674> to Shunem <07766>, where <08033> [was] a great

<01419> woman <0802>; and she constrained <02388> him to eat

<0398> bread <03899>. And [so] it was, [that] as oft <01767> as

he passed <05674> by, he turned <05493> in thither <08033> to

eat <0398> bread <03899>.

9 And she said <0559> unto her husband <0376>, Behold <02009>

now <04994>, I perceive <03045> that this <01931> [is] an holy

<06918> man <0376> of God <0430>, which passeth <05674> by us

continually <08548>.

 10 Let us make <06213> a little <06996> chamber <05944>, I pray

<04994> thee, on the wall <07023>; and let us set <07760> for

him there <08033> a bed <04296>, and a table <07979>, and a

stool <03678>, and a candlestick <04501>: and it shall be, when

he cometh <0935> to us, that he shall turn <05493> in thither

<08033>.

11 And it fell <01961> on a day <03117>, that he came <0935>

thither <08033>, and he turned <05493> into <0413> the chamber

<05944>, and lay <07901> there <08033>.

12 And he said <0559> to Gehazi <01522> his servant <05288>,

Call <07121> this <02063> Shunammite <07767>. And when he had

called <07121> her, she stood <05975> before <06440> him.

13 And he said <0559> unto him, Say <0559> now <04994> unto her,

Behold <02009>, thou hast been careful <02729> for us with all

<03605> this <02063> care <02731>; what <04100> [is] to be done

<06213> for thee? wouldest <03426> thou be spoken <01696> for to

the king <04428>, or <0176> to the captain <08269> of the host

<06635>? And she answered <0559>, I dwell <03427> among <08432>

mine own people <05971>.

14 And he said <0559>, What <04100> then [is] to be done

<06213> for her? And Gehazi <01522> answered <0559>, Verily

<061> she hath no <0369> child <01121>, and her husband <0376>

is old <02204>.

15 And he said <0559>, Call <07121> her. And when he had called

<07121> her, she stood <05975> in the door <06607>.

16 And he said <0559>, About this <02088> season <04150>,

according to the time <06256> of life <02416>, thou shalt

embrace <02263> a son <01121>. And she said <0559>, Nay <0408>,

my lord <0113>, [thou] man <0376> of God <0430>, do not lie

<03576> unto thine handmaid <08198>.

 17 And the woman <0802> conceived <02030>, and bare <03205> a

son <01121> at that season <04150> that Elisha <0477> had said

<01696> unto her, according to the time <06256> of life <02416>.

 18. And when the child <03206> was grown <01431>, it fell

<01961> on a day <03117>, that he went <03318> out to his father

<01> to the reapers <07114>.

19 And he said <0559> unto his father <01>, My head <07218>, my

head <07218>. And he said <0559> to a lad <05288>, Carry <05375>

him to his mother <0517>.

20 And when he had taken <05375> him, and brought <0935> him to

his mother <0517>, he sat <03427> on <05921> her knees <01290>

till <05704> noon <06672>, and [then] died <04191>.

21 And she went <05927> up, and laid <07901> him on <05921> the

bed <04296> of the man <0376> of God <0430>, and shut <05462>

[the door] upon him, and went <03318> out.

22 And she called <07121> unto her husband <0376>, and said

<0559>, Send <07971> me, I pray <04994> thee, one <0259> of the

young <05288> men, and one <0259> of the asses <0860>, that I

may run <07323> to the man <0376> of God <0430>, and come

<07725> again <07725>.

23 And he said <0559>, Wherefore <04069> wilt thou go <01980>

to him to day <03117>? [it is] neither <03808> new <02320> moon

<02320>, nor <03808> sabbath <07676>. And she said <0559>, [It

shall be] well <07965>.

24 Then she saddled <02280> an ass <0860>, and said <0559> to

her servant <05288>, Drive <05090>, and go <03212> forward;

slack <06113> not [thy] riding <07392> for me, except I bid

<0559> thee.

25 So she went <03212> and came <0935> unto the man <0376> of

God <0430> to mount <02022> Carmel <03760>. And it came <01961>

to pass, when the man <0376> of God <0430> saw <07200> her afar

<07350> off, that he said <0559> to Gehazi <01522> his servant

<05288>, Behold <02009>, [yonder is] that Shunammite <07767>:

 26 Run <07323> now <06258>, I pray <04994> thee, to meet

<07125> her, and say <0559> unto her, [Is it] well <07965> with

thee? [is it] well <07965> with thy husband <0376>? [is it] well

<07965> with the child <03206>? And she answered <0559>, [It is]

well <07965>.

27 And when she came <0935> to the man <0376> of God <0430> to

the hill <02022>, she caught <02388> him by the feet <07272>:

but Gehazi <01522> came <05066> near <05066> to thrust <01920>

her away. And the man <0376> of God <0430> said <0559>, Let her

alone <07503>; for her soul <05315> [is] vexed <04843> within

her: and the LORD <03068> hath hid <05956> [it] from me, and

hath not told <05046> me.

 28 Then she said <0559>, Did I desire <07592> a son <01121> of

my lord <0113>? did I not say <0559>, Do not deceive <07952> me?

29 Then he said <0559> to Gehazi <01522>, Gird <02296> up thy

loins <04975>, and take <03947> my staff <04938> in thine hand

<03027>, and go <03212> thy way <01870>: if <03588> thou meet

<04672> any man <0376>, salute <01288> him not; and if <03588>

any <0376> salute <01288> thee, answer <06030> him not again:

and lay <07760> my staff <04938> upon the face <06440> of the

child <05288>.

30 And the mother <0517> of the child <05288> said <0559>, [As]

the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, and [as] thy soul <05315>

liveth <02416>, I will not leave <05800> thee. And he arose

<06965>, and followed her.

31 And Gehazi <01522> passed <05674> on before <06440> them,

and laid <07760> the staff <04938> upon the face <06440> of the

child <05288>; but [there was] neither <0369> voice <06963>, nor

<0369> hearing <07182>. Wherefore he went <07725> again <07725>

to meet <07125> him, and told <05046> him, saying <0559>, The

child <05288> is not awaked <06974>.

32 And when Elisha <0477> was come <0935> into the house

<01004>, behold <02009>, the child <05288> was dead <04191>,

[and] laid <07901> upon his bed <04296>.

33 He went <0935> in therefore, and shut <05462> the door

<01817> upon them twain <08147>, and prayed <06419> unto the

LORD <03068>.

34 And he went <05927> up, and lay <07901> upon the child

<03206>, and put <07760> his mouth <06310> upon his mouth

<06310>, and his eyes <05869> upon his eyes <05869>, and his

hands <03709> upon his hands <03709>: and he stretched <01457>

himself upon the child <03206>; and the flesh <01320> of the

child <03206> waxed warm <02552>.

35 Then he returned <07725>, and walked <03212> in the house

<01004> to and fro; and went <05927> up, and stretched <01457>

himself upon him: and the child <05288> sneezed <02237> seven

<07651> times <06471>, and the child <05288> opened <06491> his

eyes <05869>.

36 And he called <07121> Gehazi <01522>, and said <0559>, Call

<07121> this <02063> Shunammite <07767>. So he called <07121>

her. And when she was come <0935> in unto him, he said <0559>,

Take <05375> up thy son <01121>.

37 Then she went <0935> in, and fell <05307> at <05921> his

feet <07272>, and bowed <07812> herself to the ground <0776>,

and took <05375> up her son <01121>, and went <03318> out.

 38. And Elisha <0477> came <07725> again <07725> to Gilgal

<01537>: and [there was] a dearth <07458> in the land <0776>;

and the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> [were] sitting

<03427> before <06440> him: and he said <0559> unto his servant

<05288>, Set <08239> on the great <01419> pot <05518>, and

seethe <01310> pottage <05138> for the sons <01121> of the

prophets <05030>.

39 And one <0259> went <03318> out into <0413> the field

<07704> to gather <03950> herbs <0219>, and found <04672> a wild

<07704> vine <01612>, and gathered <03950> thereof wild <07704>

gourds <06498> his lap <0899> full <04393>, and came <0935> and

shred <06398> [them] into <0413> the pot <05518> of pottage

<05138>: for they knew <03045> [them] not.

40 So they poured <03332> out for the men <0582> to eat <0398>.

And it came <01961> to pass, as they were eating <0398> of the

pottage <05138>, that they cried <06817> out, and said <0559>, O

[thou] man <0376> of God <0430>, [there is] death <04194> in the

pot <05518>. And they could <03201> not eat <0398> [thereof].

41 But he said <0559>, Then bring <03947> meal <07058>. And he

cast <07993> [it] into <0413> the pot <05518>; and he said

<0559>, Pour <03332> out for the people <05971>, that they may

eat <0398>. And there was no <03808> harm in the pot <05518>.

 42 And there came <0935> a man <0376> from Baalshalisha <01190>,

and brought <0935> the man <0376> of God <0430> bread <03899>

of the firstfruits <01061>, twenty <06242> loaves <03899> of

barley <08184>, and full ears <03759> of corn <03759> in the

husk <06861> thereof. And he said <0559>, Give <05414> unto the

people <05971>, that they may eat <0398>.

 43 And his servitor <08334> said <0559>, What <04100>, should I

set <05414> this <02088> before <06440> an hundred <03967> men

<0376>? He said <0559> again, Give <05414> the people <05971>,

that they may eat <0398>: for thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, They shall eat <0398>, and shall leave <03498>

[thereof].

44 So he set <05414> [it] before <06440> them, and they did eat

<0398>, and left <03498> [thereof], according to the word

<01697> of the LORD <03068>.

2Kings 5

 1. Now Naaman <05283>, captain <08269> of the host <06635> of

the king <04428> of Syria <0758>, was a great <01419> man <0376>

with his master <0113>, and honourable, because <03588> by him

the LORD <03068> had <01961> given <05414> deliverance <08668>

unto Syria <0758>: he was also a mighty <01368> man <0376> in

valour <02428>, [but he was] a leper <06879>.

2 And the Syrians <0758> had gone <03318> out by companies

<01416>, and had brought <07617> away captive <07617> out of the

land <0776> of Israel <03478> a little <06996> maid <05291>; and

she waited on Naaman's <05283> wife <0802>.

3 And she said <0559> unto her mistress <01404>, Would <0305>

God my lord <0113> [were] with the prophet <05030> that [is] in

Samaria <08111>! for he would recover <0622> him of his leprosy

<06883>.

4 And [one] went <0935> in, and told <05046> his lord <0113>,

saying <0559>, Thus <02063> and thus <02063> said <01696> the

maid <05291> that [is] of the land <0776> of Israel <03478>.

 5 And the king <04428> of Syria <0758> said <0559>, Go <03212>

to, go <0935>, and I will send <07971> a letter <05612> unto the

king <04428> of Israel <03478>. And he departed <03212>, and

took <03947> with him ten <06235> talents <03603> of silver

<03701>, and six <08337> thousand <0505> [pieces] of gold

<02091>, and ten <06235> changes <02487> of raiment <0899>.

6 And he brought <0935> the letter <05612> to the king <04428>

of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, Now <06258> when this <02088>

letter <05612> is come <0935> unto thee, behold <02009>, I have

[therewith] sent <07971> Naaman <05283> my servant <05650> to

thee, that thou mayest recover <0622> him of his leprosy <06883>.

7 And it came <01961> to pass, when the king <04428> of Israel

<03478> had read <07121> the letter <05612>, that he rent

<07167> his clothes <0899>, and said <0559>, [Am] I God <0430>,

to kill <04191> and to make alive <02421>, that this <02088> man

doth send <07971> unto me to recover <0622> a man <0376> of his

leprosy <06883>? wherefore consider <03045>, I pray <04994> you,

and see <07200> how <03588> he seeketh <0579> a quarrel <0579>

against me.

8 And it was [so], when Elisha <0477> the man <0376> of God

<0430> had heard <08085> that the king <04428> of Israel <03478>

had rent <07167> his clothes <0899>, that he sent <07971> to the

king <04428>, saying <0559>, Wherefore <04100> hast thou rent

<07167> thy clothes <0899>? let him come <0935> now <04994> to

me, and he shall know <03045> that there is a prophet <05030> in

Israel <03478>.

 9. So Naaman <05283> came <0935> with his horses <05483> and

with his chariot <07393>, and stood <05975> at the door <06607>

of the house <01004> of Elisha <0477>.

 10 And Elisha <0477> sent <07971> a messenger <04397> unto him,

saying <0559>, Go <01980> and wash <07364> in Jordan <03383>

seven <07651> times <06471>, and thy flesh <01320> shall come

<07725> again <07725> to thee, and thou shalt be clean <02891>.

11 But Naaman <05283> was wroth <07107>, and went <03212> away,

and said <0559>, Behold <02009>, I thought <0559>, He will

surely come <03318> out to me, and stand <05975>, and call

<07121> on the name <08034> of the LORD <03068> his God <0430>,

and strike <05130> his hand <03027> over <0413> the place

<04725>, and recover <0622> the leper <06879>.

12 [Are] not Abana <071> and Pharpar <06554>, rivers <05104> of

Damascus <01834>, better <02896> than all <03605> the waters

<04325> of Israel <03478>? may I not wash <07364> in them, and

be clean <02891>? So he turned <06437> and went <03212> away in

a rage <02534>.

13 And his servants <05650> came <05066> near <05066>, and

spake <01696> unto him, and said <0559>, My father <01>, [if]

the prophet <05030> had bid <01696> thee [do some] great <01419>

thing <01697>, wouldest thou not have done <06213> [it]? how

<0637> much rather then, when <03588> he saith <0559> to thee,

Wash <07364>, and be clean <02891>?

14 Then went <03381> he down <03381>, and dipped <02881>

himself seven <07651> times <06471> in Jordan <03383>, according

to the saying <01697> of the man <0376> of God <0430>: and his

flesh <01320> came <07725> again <07725> like unto the flesh

<01320> of a little <06995> child <05288>, and he was clean

<02891>.

 15. And he returned <07725> to the man <0376> of God <0430>, he

and all <03605> his company <04264>, and came <0935>, and stood

<05975> before <06440> him: and he said <0559>, Behold <02009>,

now <04994> I know <03045> that [there is] no <0369> God <0430>

in all <03605> the earth <0776>, but in Israel <03478>: now

<06258> therefore, I pray <04994> thee, take <03947> a blessing

<01293> of thy servant <05650>.

16 But he said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>,

before <06440> whom <0834> I stand <05975>, I will receive

<03947> none. And he urged <06484> him to take <03947> [it]; but

he refused <03985>.

17 And Naaman <05283> said <0559>, Shall there not then, I pray

<04994> thee, be given <05414> to thy servant <05650> two mules

<06505>' burden <04853> of earth <0127>? for thy servant <05650>

will henceforth <05750> offer <06213> neither <03808> burnt

<05930> offering nor sacrifice <02077> unto other <0312> gods

<0430>, but unto the LORD <03068>.

18 In this <02088> thing <01697> the LORD <03068> pardon

<05545> thy servant <05650>, [that] when my master <0113> goeth

<0935> into the house <01004> of Rimmon <07417> to worship

<07812> there <08033>, and he leaneth <08127> on <05921> my hand

<03027>, and I bow <07812> myself in the house <01004> of Rimmon

<07417>: when I bow <07812> down <07812> myself in the house

<01004> of Rimmon <07417>, the LORD <03068> pardon <05545> thy

servant <05650> in this <02088> thing <01697>.

19 And he said <0559> unto him, Go <03212> in peace <07965>. So

he departed <03212> from him a little <03530> way <0776>.

 20. But Gehazi <01522>, the servant <05288> of Elisha <0477>

the man <0376> of God <0430>, said <0559>, Behold <02009>, my

master <0113> hath spared <02820> Naaman <05283> this <02088>

Syrian <0761>, in not receiving <03947> at his hands <03027>

that which <0834> he brought <0935>: but, [as] the LORD <03068>

liveth <02416>, I will run <07323> after <0310> him, and take

<03947> somewhat <03972> of him.

 21 So Gehazi <01522> followed <07291> after <0310> Naaman

<05283>. And when Naaman <05283> saw <07200> [him] running

<07323> after <0310> him, he lighted <05307> down from the

chariot <04818> to meet <07125> him, and said <0559>, [Is] all

well <07965>?

22 And he said <0559>, All [is] well <07965>. My master <0113>

hath sent <07971> me, saying <0559>, Behold <02009>, even now

<06258> there be come <0935> to me from mount <02022> Ephraim

<0669> two <08147> young <05288> men of the sons <01121> of the

prophets <05030>: give <05414> them, I pray <04994> thee, a

talent <03603> of silver <03701>, and two <08147> changes

<02487> of garments <0899>.

23 And Naaman <05283> said <0559>, Be content <02974>, take

<03947> two talents <03603>. And he urged <06555> him, and bound

<06887> two <08147> talents <03603> of silver <03701> in two

<08147> bags <02754>, with two <08147> changes <02487> of

garments <0899>, and laid <05414> [them] upon two <08147> of his

servants <05288>; and they bare <05375> [them] before <06440>

him.

24 And when he came <0935> to the tower <06076>, he took

<03947> [them] from their hand <03027>, and bestowed <06485>

[them] in the house <01004>: and he let the men <0582> go

<07971>, and they departed <03212>.

25 But he went <0935> in, and stood <05975> before <0413> his

master <0113>. And Elisha <0477> said <0559> unto him, Whence

<0370> [comest thou], Gehazi <01522>? And he said <0559>, Thy

servant <05650> went <01980> no <03808> whither <0575>.

26 And he said <0559> unto him, Went <01980> not mine heart

<03820> [with thee], when the man <0376> turned <02015> again

from his chariot <04818> to meet <07125> thee? [Is it] a time

<06256> to receive <03947> money <03701>, and to receive <03947>

garments <0899>, and oliveyards <02132>, and vineyards <03754>,

and sheep <06629>, and oxen <01241>, and menservants <05650>,

and maidservants <08198>?

27 The leprosy <06883> therefore of Naaman <05283> shall cleave

<01692> unto thee, and unto thy seed <02233> for ever <05769>.

And he went <03318> out from his presence <06440> a leper

<06879> [as white] as snow <07950>.

2Kings 6

 1. And the sons <01121> of the prophets <05030> said <0559>

unto Elisha <0477>, Behold <02009> now <04994>, the place

<04725> where we dwell <03427> with thee is too strait <06862>

for us.

2 Let us go <03212>, we pray <04994> thee, unto Jordan <03383>,

and take <03947> thence <08033> every man <0376> a beam <06982>,

and let us make <06213> us a place <04725> there <08033>, where

<08033> we may dwell <03427>. And he answered <0559>, Go <03212>

ye.

 3 And one <0259> said <0559>, Be content <02974>, I pray

<04994> thee, and go <03212> with thy servants <05650>. And he

answered <0559>, I will go <03212>.

4 So he went <03212> with them. And when they came <0935> to

Jordan <03383>, they cut <01504> down wood <06086>.

5 But as one <0259> was felling <05307> a beam <06982>, the axe

<01270> head <01270> fell <05307> into <0413> the water <04325>:

and he cried <06817>, and said <0559>, Alas <0160>, master

<0113>! for it was borrowed <07592>.

 6 And the man <0376> of God <0430> said <0559>, Where <0575>

fell <05307> it? And he shewed <07200> him the place <04725>.

And he cut <07094> down a stick <06086>, and cast <07993> [it]

in thither <08033>; and the iron <01270> did swim <06687>.

7 Therefore said <0559> he, Take <07311> [it] up to thee. And

he put <07971> out his hand <03027>, and took <03947> it.

 8. Then the king <04428> of Syria <0758> warred <03898> against

Israel <03478>, and took counsel <03289> with his servants

<05650>, saying <0559>, In such <06423> and such <0492> a place

<04725> [shall be] my camp <08466>.

9 And the man <0376> of God <0430> sent <07971> unto the king

<04428> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, Beware <08104> that

thou pass <05674> not such <02088> a place <04725>; for thither

<08033> the Syrians <0758> are come <05185> down <05181>.

10 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> sent <07971> to the

place <04725> which <0834> the man <0376> of God <0430> told

<0559> him and warned <02094> him of, and saved <08104> himself

there <08033>, not once <0259> nor <03808> twice <08147>.

11 Therefore the heart <03820> of the king <04428> of Syria

<0758> was sore troubled <05590> for this <02088> thing <01697>;

and he called <07121> his servants <05650>, and said <0559> unto

them, Will ye not shew <05046> me which <04310> of us [is] for

the king <04428> of Israel <03478>?

12 And one <0259> of his servants <05650> said <0559>, None

<03808>, my lord <0113>, O king <04428>: but Elisha <0477>, the

prophet <05030> that [is] in Israel <03478>, telleth <05046> the

king <04428> of Israel <03478> the words <01697> that thou

speakest <01696> in thy bedchamber.

 13. And he said <0559>, Go <03212> and spy <07200> where <0351>

he [is], that I may send <07971> and fetch <03947> him. And it

was told <05046> him, saying <0559>, Behold <02009>, [he is] in

Dothan <01886>.

 14 Therefore sent <07971> he thither <08033> horses <05483>,

and chariots <07393>, and a great <03515> host <02428>: and they

came <0935> by night <03915>, and compassed <05362> the city

<05892> about <05362>.

15 And when the servant <08334> of the man <0376> of God <0430>

was risen <06965> early <07925>, and gone <03318> forth <03318>,

behold <02009>, an host <02428> compassed <05437> the city

<05892> both with horses <05483> and chariots <07393>. And his

servant <05288> said <0559> unto him, Alas <0160>, my master

<0113>! how <0349> shall we do <06213>?

16 And he answered <0559>, Fear <03372> not: for they that [be]

with us [are] more <07227> than they that [be] with them.

17 And Elisha <0477> prayed <06419>, and said <0559>, LORD

<03068>, I pray <04994> thee, open <06491> his eyes <05869>,

that he may see <07200>. And the LORD <03068> opened <06491> the

eyes <05869> of the young <05288> man; and he saw <07200>: and,

behold <02009>, the mountain <02022> [was] full <04390> of

horses <05483> and chariots <07393> of fire <0784> round <05439>

about Elisha <0477>.

18 And when they came <03381> down <03381> to him, Elisha

<0477> prayed <06419> unto the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>,

Smite <05221> this <02088> people <01471>, I pray <04994> thee,

with blindness <05575>. And he smote <05221> them with blindness

<05575> according to the word <01697> of Elisha <0477>.

19 And Elisha <0477> said <0559> unto them, This [is] not the

way <01870>, neither <03808> [is] this <02090> the city <05892>:

follow me, and I will bring <03212> you to the man <0376> whom

<0834> ye seek <01245>. But he led <03212> them to Samaria

<08111>.

20 And it came <01961> to pass, when they were come <0935> into

Samaria <08111>, that Elisha <0477> said <0559>, LORD <03068>,

open <06491> the eyes <05869> of these <0428> [men], that they

may see <07200>. And the LORD <03068> opened <06491> their eyes

<05869>, and they saw <07200>; and, behold <02009>, [they were]

in the midst <08432> of Samaria <08111>.

21 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto

Elisha <0477>, when he saw <07200> them, My father <01>, shall I

smite <05221> [them]? shall I smite <05221> [them]?

22 And he answered <0559>, Thou shalt not smite <05221> [them]:

wouldest thou smite <05221> those whom <0834> thou hast taken

captive <07617> with thy sword <02719> and with thy bow <07198>?

set <07760> bread <03899> and water <04325> before <06440> them,

that they may eat <0398> and drink <08354>, and go <03212> to

their master <0113>.

23 And he prepared <03739> great <01419> provision <03740> for

them: and when they had eaten <0398> and drunk <08354>, he sent

<07971> them away, and they went <03212> to their master <0113>.

So the bands <01416> of Syria <0758> came <0935> no <03808> more

into the land <0776> of Israel <03478>.

 24. And it came <01961> to pass after <0310> this <03651>, that

Benhadad <01130> king <04428> of Syria <0758> gathered <06908>

all <03605> his host, and went <05927> up, and besieged <06696>

Samaria <08111>.

25 And there was a great <01419> famine <07458> in Samaria

<08111>: and, behold <02009>, they besieged <06696> it, until

<05704> an ass's <02543> head <07218> was [sold] for fourscore

<08084> [pieces] of silver <03701>, and the fourth <07255> part

of a cab <06894> of dove's <01686> dung <02755> for five <02568>

[pieces] of silver <03701>.

26 And as the king <04428> of Israel <03478> was passing

<05674> by upon the wall <02346>, there cried <06817> a woman

<0802> unto him, saying <0559>, Help <03467>, my lord <0113>, O

king <04428>.

27 And he said <0559>, If the LORD <03068> do not help <03467>

thee, whence <0370> shall I help <03467> thee? out of the

barnfloor <01637>, or <0176> out of the winepress <03342>?

28 And the king <04428> said <0559> unto her, What <04100>

aileth thee? And she answered <0559>, This <02063> woman <0802>

said <0559> unto me, Give <05414> thy son <01121>, that we may

eat <0398> him to day <03117>, and we will eat <0398> my son

<01121> to morrow <04279>.

29 So we boiled <01310> my son <01121>, and did eat <0398> him:

and I said <0559> unto her on the next <0312> day <03117>, Give

<05414> thy son <01121>, that we may eat <0398> him: and she

hath hid <02244> her son <01121>.

30 And it came <01961> to pass, when the king <04428> heard

<08085> the words <01697> of the woman <0802>, that he rent

<07167> his clothes <0899>; and he passed <05674> by upon the

wall <02346>, and the people <05971> looked <07200>, and, behold

<02009>, [he had] sackcloth <08242> within <01004> upon his

flesh <01320>.

 31 Then he said <0559>, God <0430> do <06213> so <03541> and

more <03254> also <03541> to me, if <0518> the head <07218> of

Elisha <0477> the son <01121> of Shaphat <08202> shall stand

<05975> on <05921> him this day <03117>.

32 But Elisha <0477> sat <03427> in his house <01004>, and the

elders <02205> sat <03427> with him; and [the king] sent <07971>

a man <0376> from before <06440> him: but ere <02962> the

messenger <04397> came <0935> to him, he said <0559> to the

elders <02205>, See <07200> ye how <03588> this son <01121> of a

murderer <07523> hath sent <07971> to take <05493> away mine

head <07218>? look <07200>, when the messenger <04397> cometh

<0935>, shut <05462> the door <01817>, and hold <03905> him fast

at the door <01817>: [is] not the sound <06963> of his master's

<0113> feet <07272> behind <0310> him?

33 And while he yet <05750> talked <01696> with them, behold

<02009>, the messenger <04397> came <03381> down <03381> unto

him: and he said <0559>, Behold <02009>, this <02063> evil

<07451> [is] of the LORD <03068>; what <04100> should I wait

<03176> for the LORD <03068> any longer <05750>?

2Kings 7

 1. Then Elisha <0477> said <0559>, Hear <08085> ye the word

<01697> of the LORD <03068>; Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>, To morrow <04279> about this time <06256> [shall] a

measure <05429> of fine flour <05560> [be sold] for a shekel

<08255>, and two measures <05429> of barley <08184> for a shekel

<08255>, in the gate <08179> of Samaria <08111>.

 2 Then a lord <07991> on <05921> whose <0834> hand <03027> the

king <04428> leaned <08172> answered <06030> the man <0376> of

God <0430>, and said <0559>, Behold <02009>, [if] the LORD

<03068> would make <06213> windows <0699> in heaven <08064>,

might this <02088> thing <01697> be? And he said <0559>, Behold

<02009>, thou shalt see <07200> [it] with thine eyes <05869>,

but shalt not eat <0398> thereof.

 3. And there were four <0702> leprous <06879> men <0582> at the

entering <06607> in of the gate <08179>: and they said <0559>

one <0376> to another <07453>, Why <04100> sit <03427> we here

<06311> until <05704> we die <04191>?

4 If <0518> we say <0559>, We will enter <0935> into the city

<05892>, then the famine <07458> [is] in the city <05892>, and

we shall die <04191> there <08033>: and if <0518> we sit <03427>

still here <06311>, we die <04191> also. Now <06258> therefore

come <03212>, and let us fall <05307> unto the host <04264> of

the Syrians <0758>: if <0518> they save <02421> us alive <02421>,

we shall live <02421>; and if <0518> they kill <04191> us, we

shall but die <04191>.

5 And they rose <06965> up in the twilight <05399>, to go

<0935> unto the camp <04264> of the Syrians <0758>: and when

they were come <0935> to the uttermost <07097> part of the camp

<04264> of Syria <0758>, behold <02009>, [there <08033> was] no

<0369> man <0376> there <08033>.

6 For the Lord <0136> had made the host <04264> of the Syrians

<0758> to hear <08085> a noise <06963> of chariots <07393>, and

a noise <06963> of horses <05483>, [even] the noise <06963> of a

great <01419> host <02428>: and they said <0559> one <0376> to

another <0250>, Lo <02009>, the king <04428> of Israel <03478>

hath hired <07936> against <05921> us the kings <04428> of the

Hittites <02850>, and the kings <04428> of the Egyptians <04714>,

 to come <0935> upon us.

7 Wherefore they arose <06965> and fled <05127> in the twilight

<05399>, and left <05800> their tents <0168>, and their horses

<05483>, and their asses <02543>, even the camp <04264> as it

[was], and fled <05127> for their life <05315>.

 8 And when <03588> these <0428> lepers <06879> came <0935> to

the uttermost <07097> part of the camp <04264>, they went <0935>

into <0413> one <0259> tent <0168>, and did eat <0398> and drink

<08354>, and carried <05375> thence <08033> silver <03701>, and

gold <02091>, and raiment <0899>, and went <03212> and hid

<02934> [it]; and came <07725> again <07725>, and entered <0935>

into <0413> another <0312> tent <0168>, and carried <05375>

thence <08033> [also], and went <03212> and hid <02934> [it].

9 Then they said <0559> one <0376> to another <07453>, We do

<06213> not well <03651>: this <01931> day <03117> [is] a day

<03117> of good tidings <01309>, and we hold <02814> our peace

<02814>: if we tarry <02442> till <05704> the morning <01242>

light <0216>, some mischief <05771> will come <04672> upon us:

now <06258> therefore come <03212>, that we may go <0935> and

tell <05046> the king's <04428> household <01004>.

10 So they came <0935> and called <07121> unto the porter

<07778> of the city <05892>: and they told <05046> them, saying

<0559>, We came <0935> to the camp <04264> of the Syrians <0758>,

and, behold <02009>, [there <08033> was] no <0369> man <0376>

there <08033>, neither <0369> voice <06963> of man <0120>, but

horses <05483> tied <0631>, and asses <02543> tied <0631>, and

the tents <0168> as they [were].

11 And he called <07121> the porters <07778>; and they told

<05046> [it] to the king's <04428> house <01004> within <06441>.

 12. And the king <04428> arose <06965> in the night <03915>,

and said <0559> unto his servants <05650>, I will now <04994>

shew <05046> you what the Syrians <0758> have done <06213> to us.

They know <03045> that we [be] hungry <07456>; therefore are

they gone <03318> out of the camp <04264> to hide <02247>

themselves in the field <07704>, saying <0559>, When <03588>

they come <03318> out of the city <05892>, we shall catch

<08610> them alive <02416>, and get <0935> into <0413> the city

<05892>.

13 And one <0259> of his servants <05650> answered <06030> and

said <0559>, Let [some] take <03947>, I pray <04994> thee, five

<02568> of the horses <05483> that remain <07604>, which <0834>

are left <07604> in the city, (behold, they [are] as all <03605>

the multitude <01995> of Israel <03478> that are left <07604> in

it: behold <02009>, [I say], they [are] even as all <03605> the

multitude <01995> of the Israelites <03478> that are consumed

<08552>:) and let us send <07971> and see <07200>.

 14 They took <03947> therefore two <08147> chariot <07393>

horses <05483>; and the king <04428> sent <07971> after <0310>

the host <04264> of the Syrians <0758>, saying <0559>, Go

<03212> and see <07200>.

15 And they went <03212> after <0310> them unto Jordan <03383>:

and, lo <02009>, all <03605> the way <01870> [was] full <04392>

of garments <0899> and vessels <03627>, which <0834> the Syrians

<0758> had cast <07993> away in their haste <02648>. And the

messengers <04397> returned <07725>, and told <05046> the king

<04428>.

16 And the people <05971> went <03318> out, and spoiled <0962>

the tents <04264> of the Syrians <0758>. So a measure <05429> of

fine flour <05560> was [sold] for a shekel <08255>, and two

measures <05429> of barley <08184> for a shekel <08255>,

according to the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

17 And the king <04428> appointed <06485> the lord <07991> on

<05921> whose <0834> hand <03027> he leaned <08172> to have the

charge <05921> of the gate <08179>: and the people <05971> trode

<07429> upon him in the gate <08179>, and he died <04191>, as

the man <0376> of God <0430> had said <01696>, who <0834> spake

<01696> when the king <04428> came <03381> down <03381> to him.

18 And it came <01961> to pass as the man <0376> of God <0430>

had spoken <01696> to the king <04428>, saying <0559>, Two

measures <05429> of barley <08184> for a shekel <08255>, and a

measure <05429> of fine flour <05560> for a shekel <08255>,

shall be to morrow <04279> about this time <06256> in the gate

<08179> of Samaria <08111>:

19 And that lord <07991> answered <06030> the man <0376> of God

<0430>, and said <0559>, Now, behold <02009>, [if] the LORD

<03068> should make <06213> windows <0699> in heaven <08064>,

might such <02088> a thing <01697> be? And he said <0559>,

Behold <02009>, thou shalt see <07200> it with thine eyes

<05869>, but shalt not eat <0398> thereof.

20 And so <03651> it fell <01961> out unto him: for the people

<05971> trode <07429> upon him in the gate <08179>, and he died

<04191>.

2Kings 8

 1. Then spake <01696> Elisha <0477> unto the woman <0802>,

whose <0834> son <01121> he had restored <02421> to life <02421>,

saying <0559>, Arise <06965>, and go <03212> thou and thine

household <01004>, and sojourn <01481> wheresoever <0834> thou

canst sojourn <01481>: for the LORD <03068> hath called <07121>

for a famine <07458>; and it shall also <01571> come <0935> upon

the land <0776> seven <07651> years <08141>.

2 And the woman <0802> arose <06965>, and did <06213> after the

saying <01697> of the man <0376> of God <0430>: and she went

<03212> with her household <01004>, and sojourned <01481> in the

land <0776> of the Philistines <06430> seven <07651> years

<08141>.

3 And it came <01961> to pass at the seven <07651> years

<08141>' end <07097>, that the woman <0802> returned <07725> out

of the land <0776> of the Philistines <06430>: and she went

<03318> forth <03318> to cry <06817> unto the king <04428> for

her house <01004> and for her land <07704>.

4 And the king <04428> talked <01696> with Gehazi <01522> the

servant <05288> of the man <0376> of God <0430>, saying <0559>,

Tell <05608> me, I pray <04994> thee, all <03605> the great

<01419> things that Elisha <0477> hath done <06213>.

5 And it came <01961> to pass, as he was telling <05608> the

king <04428> how <0834> he had restored <02421> a dead <04191>

body to life <02421>, that, behold <02009>, the woman <0802>,

whose <0834> son <01121> he had restored <02421> to life <02421>,

cried <06817> to the king <04428> for her house <01004> and for

her land <07704>. And Gehazi <01522> said <0559>, My lord <0113>,

O king <04428>, this <02063> [is] the woman <0802>, and this

<02088> [is] her son <01121>, whom <0834> Elisha <0477> restored

<02421> to life <02421>.

6 And when the king <04428> asked <07592> the woman <0802>, she

told <05608> him. So the king <04428> appointed <05414> unto her

a certain <0259> officer <05631>, saying <0559>, Restore <07725>

all <03605> that [was] hers, and all <03605> the fruits <08393>

of the field <07704> since the day <03117> that she left <05800>

the land <0776>, even until <05704> now <06258>.

 7. And Elisha <0477> came <0935> to Damascus <01834>; and

Benhadad <01130> the king <04428> of Syria <0758> was sick

<02470>; and it was told <05046> him, saying <0559>, The man

<0376> of God <0430> is come <0935> hither <02008>.

8 And the king <04428> said <0559> unto Hazael <02371>, Take

<03947> a present <04503> in thine hand <03027>, and go <03212>,

meet <07125> the man <0376> of God <0430>, and enquire <01875>

of the LORD <03068> by him, saying <0559>, Shall I recover

<02421> of this <02088> disease <02483>?

9 So Hazael <02371> went <03212> to meet <07125> him, and took

<03947> a present <04503> with him, even of every <03605> good

<02898> thing of Damascus <01834>, forty <0705> camels <01581>'

burden <04853>, and came <0935> and stood <05975> before <06440>

him, and said <0559>, Thy son <01121> Benhadad <01130> king

<04428> of Syria <0758> hath sent <07971> me to thee, saying

<0559>, Shall I recover <02421> of this <02088> disease <02483>?

10 And Elisha <0477> said <0559> unto him, Go <03212>, say

<0559> unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover <02421>: howbeit

the LORD <03068> hath shewed <07200> me that he shall surely die

<04191>.

11 And he settled <05975> his countenance <06440> stedfastly

<07760>, until <05704> he was ashamed <0954>: and the man <0376>

of God <0430> wept <01058>.

 12 And Hazael <02371> said <0559>, Why <04069> weepeth <01058>

my lord <0113>? And he answered <0559>, Because <03588> I know

<03045> the evil <07451> that thou wilt do <06213> unto the

children <01121> of Israel <03478>: their strong <04013> holds

<04013> wilt thou set <07971> on fire <0784>, and their young

<0970> men wilt thou slay <02026> with the sword <02719>, and

wilt dash <07376> their children <06768>, and rip <01234> up

their women with child <02030>.

13 And Hazael <02371> said <0559>, But what <04100>, [is] thy

servant <05650> a dog <03611>, that he should do <06213> this

<02088> great <01419> thing <01697>? And Elisha <0477> answered

<0559>, The LORD <03068> hath shewed <07200> me that thou [shalt

be] king <04428> over <05921> Syria <0758>.

14 So he departed <03212> from Elisha <0477>, and came <0935>

to his master <0113>; who <04310> said <0559> to him, What

<04100> said <0559> Elisha <0477> to thee? And he answered

<0559>, He told <0559> me [that] thou shouldest surely recover

<02421>.

15 And it came <01961> to pass on the morrow <04283>, that he

took <03947> a thick cloth <04346>, and dipped <02881> [it] in

water <04325>, and spread <06566> [it] on <05921> his face

<06440>, so that he died <04191>: and Hazael <02371> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

 16. And in the fifth <02568> year <08141> of Joram <03141> the

son <01121> of Ahab <0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478>,

Jehoshaphat <03092> [being] then king <04428> of Judah <03063>,

Jehoram <03088> the son <01121> of Jehoshaphat <03092> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> began to reign <04427>.

 17 Thirty <07970> and two <08147> years <08141> old <01121> was

he when he began to reign <04427>; and he reigned <04427> eight

<08083> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>.

18 And he walked <03212> in the way <01870> of the kings

<04428> of Israel <03478>, as did <06213> the house <01004> of

Ahab <0256>: for the daughter <01323> of Ahab <0256> was his

wife <0802>: and he did evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the

LORD <03068>.

19 Yet the LORD <03068> would <014> not destroy <07843> Judah

<03063> for David <01732> his servant's <05650> sake <04616>, as

he promised <0559> him to give <05414> him alway a light <05216>,

 [and] to his children <01121>.

20 In his days <03117> Edom <0123> revolted <06586> from under

<08478> the hand <03027> of Judah <03063>, and made a king

<04428> over <05921> themselves <01992>.

21 So Joram <03141> went <05674> over <05674> to Zair, and all

<03605> the chariots <07393> with him: and he rose <06965> by

night <03915>, and smote <05221> the Edomites <0130> which

compassed <05437> him about <0413>, and the captains <08269> of

the chariots <07393>: and the people <05971> fled <05127> into

their tents <0168>.

22 Yet Edom <0123> revolted <06586> from under <08478> the hand

<03027> of Judah <03063> unto this day <03117>. Then <0227>

Libnah <03841> revolted <06586> at the same <01931> time <06256>.

23 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Joram <03141>,

and all <03605> that he did, [are] they not written <03789> in

the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428>

of Judah <03063>?

24 And Joram <03141> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

was buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892> of

David <01732>: and Ahaziah <0274> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

 25. In the twelfth year <08141> of Joram <03141> the son

<01121> of Ahab <0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478> did

Ahaziah <0274> the son <01121> of Jehoram <03088> king <04428>

of Judah <03063> begin to reign <04427>.

 26 Two <08147> and twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121>

[was] Ahaziah <0274> when he began to reign <04427>; and he

reigned one <0259> year <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. And his

mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Athaliah <06271>, the

daughter <01323> of Omri <06018> king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

27 And he walked <03212> in the way <01870> of the house

<01004> of Ahab <0256>, and did <06213> evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, as [did] the house <01004> of

Ahab <0256>: for he [was] the son <02860> in law <02859> of the

house <01004> of Ahab <0256>.

28 And he went <03212> with Joram <03141> the son <01121> of

Ahab <0256> to the war <04421> against <05973> Hazael <02371>

king <04428> of Syria <0758> in Ramothgilead <07433>; and the

Syrians <0761> wounded <05221> Joram <03141>.

 29 And king <04428> Joram <03141> went <07725> back <07725> to

be healed <07495> in Jezreel <03157> of the wounds <04347> which

<0834> the Syrians <0761> had given <05221> him at Ramah <07414>,

when he fought <03898> against Hazael <02371> king <04428> of

Syria <0758>. And Ahaziah <0274> the son <01121> of Jehoram

<03088> king <04428> of Judah <03063> went <03381> down <03381>

to see <07200> Joram <03141> the son <01121> of Ahab <0256> in

Jezreel <03157>, because <03588> he was sick <02470>.

2Kings 9

 1. And Elisha <0477> the prophet <05030> called <07121> one

<0259> of the children <01121> of the prophets <05030>, and said

<0559> unto him, Gird <02296> up thy loins <04975>, and take

<03947> this <02088> box <06378> of oil <08081> in thine hand

<03027>, and go <03212> to Ramothgilead <07433>:

2 And when thou comest <0935> thither <08033>, look <07200> out

there <08033> Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Jehoshaphat

<03092> the son <01121> of Nimshi <05250>, and go <0935> in, and

make him arise <06965> up from among <08432> his brethren <0251>,

 and carry <0935> him to an inner <02315> chamber <02315>;

3 Then take <03947> the box <06378> of oil <08081>, and pour

<03332> [it] on <05921> his head <07218>, and say <0559>, Thus

<03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, I have anointed <04886>

thee king <04428> over <05921> Israel <03478>. Then open <06605>

the door <01817>, and flee <05127>, and tarry <02442> not.

4 So the young <05288> man, [even] the young <05288> man <0376>

the prophet <05030>, went <03212> to Ramothgilead <07433>.

5 And when <03588> he came <0935>, behold <02009>, the captains

<08269> of the host <02428> [were] sitting <03427>; and he said

<0559>, I have an errand <01697> to thee, O captain <08269>. And

Jehu <03058> said <0559>, Unto which <04310> of all <03605> us?

And he said <0559>, To thee, O captain <08269>.

 6 And he arose <06965>, and went <0935> into the house <01004>;

and he poured <03332> the oil <08081> on <0413> his head <07218>,

and said <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, I have anointed <04886>

thee king <04428> over <0413> the people <05971> of the LORD

<03068>, [even] over <0413> Israel <03478>.

7 And thou shalt smite <05221> the house <01004> of Ahab <0256>

thy master <0113>, that I may avenge <05358> the blood <01818>

of my servants <05650> the prophets <05030>, and the blood

<01818> of all <03605> the servants <05650> of the LORD <03068>,

at the hand <03027> of Jezebel <0348>.

8 For the whole <03605> house <01004> of Ahab <0256> shall

perish <06>: and I will cut <03772> off from Ahab <0256> him

that pisseth <08366> against the wall <07023>, and him that is

shut <06113> up and left in Israel <03478>:

9 And I will make <05414> the house <01004> of Ahab <0256> like

the house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat

<05028>, and like the house <01004> of Baasha <01201> the son

<01121> of Ahijah <0281>:

10 And the dogs <03611> shall eat <0398> Jezebel <0348> in the

portion <02506> of Jezreel <03157>, and [there shall be] none

<0369> to bury <06912> [her]. And he opened <06605> the door

<01817>, and fled <05127>.

 11. Then Jehu <03058> came <03318> forth <03318> to the

servants <05650> of his lord <0113>: and [one] said <0559> unto

him, [Is] all well <07965>? wherefore <04069> came <0935> this

<02088> mad <07696> [fellow] to thee? And he said <0559> unto

them, Ye know <03045> the man <0376>, and his communication

<07879>.

12 And they said <0559>, [It is] false <08267>; tell <05046> us

now <04994>. And he said <0559>, Thus <02063> and thus <02063>

spake <0559> he to me, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068>, I have anointed <04886> thee king <04428> over

<0413> Israel <03478>.

13 Then they hasted <04116>, and took <03947> every man <0376>

his garment <0899>, and put <07760> [it] under <08478> him on

<0413> the top <01634> of the stairs <04609>, and blew <08628>

with trumpets <07782>, saying <0559>, Jehu <03058> is king

<04427>.

14 So Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Jehoshaphat <03092> the

son <01121> of Nimshi <05250> conspired <07194> against <0413>

Joram <03141>. (Now Joram <03141> had kept <08104> Ramothgilead

<07433>, he and all <03605> Israel <03478>, because <06440> of

Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758>.

15 But king <04428> Joram <03188> was returned <07725> to be

healed <07495> in Jezreel <03157> of the wounds <04347> which

<0834> the Syrians <0761> had given <05221> him, when he fought

<03898> with Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758>.) And

Jehu <03058> said <0559>, If <0518> it be your minds <05315>,

[then] let none <0408> go <03318> forth <03318> [nor] escape

<06412> out of the city <05892> to go <03212> to tell <05046>

[it] in Jezreel <03157>.

 16. So Jehu <03058> rode <07392> in a chariot, and went <03212>

to Jezreel <03157>; for Joram <03141> lay <07901> there <08033>.

And Ahaziah <0274> king <04428> of Judah <03063> was come

<03381> down <03381> to see <07200> Joram <03141>.

 17 And there stood <05975> a watchman <06822> on <05921> the

tower <04026> in Jezreel <03157>, and he spied <07200> the

company <08229> of Jehu <03058> as he came <0935>, and said

<0559>, I see <07200> a company <08229>. And Joram <03188> said

<0559>, Take <03947> an horseman <07395>, and send <07971> to

meet <07125> them, and let him say <0559>, [Is it] peace <07965>?

18 So there went <03212> one on horseback to meet <07125> him,

and said <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the king <04428>, [Is

it] peace <07965>? And Jehu <03058> said <0559>, What <04100>

hast thou to do with peace <07965>? turn <05437> thee behind

<0310> me. And the watchman <06822> told <05046>, saying <0559>,

The messenger <04397> came <0935> to them, but he cometh <07725>

not again <07725>.

19 Then he sent <07971> out a second <08145> on horseback,

which came <0935> to them, and said <0559>, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the king <04428>, [Is it] peace <07965>? And Jehu <03058>

answered <0559>, What <04100> hast thou to do with peace

<07965>? turn <05437> thee behind <0310> me.

20 And the watchman <06822> told <05046>, saying <0559>, He

came <0935> even unto them, and cometh <07725> not again <07725>:

and the driving <04491> [is] like the driving <04491> of Jehu

<03058> the son <01121> of Nimshi <05250>; for he driveth

<05090> furiously <07697>.

21 And Joram <03188> said <0559>, Make ready <0631>. And his

chariot <07393> was made ready <0631>. And Joram <03188> king

<04428> of Israel <03478> and Ahaziah <0274> king <04428> of

Judah <03063> went <03318> out, each <0376> in his chariot

<07393>, and they went <03318> out against <07125> Jehu <03058>,

and met <04672> him in the portion <02513> of Naboth <05022> the

Jezreelite <03158>.

22 And it came <01961> to pass, when Joram <03188> saw <07200>

Jehu <03058>, that he said <0559>, [Is it] peace <07965>, Jehu

<03058>? And he answered <0559>, What <04100> peace <07965>, so

long <05704> as the whoredoms <02183> of thy mother <0517>

Jezebel <0348> and her witchcrafts <03785> [are so] many <07227>?

23 And Joram <03188> turned <02015> his hands <03027>, and fled

<05127>, and said <0559> to Ahaziah <0274>, [There is] treachery

<04820>, O Ahaziah <0274>.

 24 And Jehu <03058> drew a bow <07198> with his full <04390>

strength <03027>, and smote <05221> Jehoram <03088> between

<0996> his arms <02220>, and the arrow <02678> went <03318> out

at his heart <03820>, and he sunk <03766> down in his chariot

<07393>.

25 Then said <0559> [Jehu] to Bidkar <0920> his captain <07991>,

Take <05375> up, [and] cast <07993> him in the portion <02513>

of the field <07704> of Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158>:

for remember <02142> how that, when I and thou rode <07392>

together <06776> after <0310> Ahab <0256> his father <01>, the

LORD <03068> laid <05375> this <02088> burden <04853> upon him;

26 Surely I have seen <07200> yesterday <0570> the blood

<01818> of Naboth <05022>, and the blood <01818> of his sons

<01121>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068>; and I will requite

<07999> thee in this <02063> plat <02513>, saith <05002> the

LORD <03068>. Now <06258> therefore take <05375> [and] cast

<07993> him into the plat <02513> [of ground], according to the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

27 But when Ahaziah <0274> the king <04428> of Judah <03063>

saw <07200> [this], he fled <05127> by the way <01870> of the

garden <01588> house <01004>. And Jehu <03058> followed <07291>

after <0310> him, and said <0559>, Smite <05221> him also

<01571> in the chariot <04818>. [And they did so] at the going

<04608> up to Gur <01483>, which <0834> [is] by Ibleam <02991>.

And he fled <05127> to Megiddo <04023>, and died <04191> there

<08033>.

28 And his servants <05650> carried <07392> him in a chariot to

Jerusalem <03389>, and buried <06912> him in his sepulchre

<06900> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892> of David

<01732>.

29 And in the eleventh year <08141> of Joram <03188> the son

<01121> of Ahab <0256> began Ahaziah <0274> to reign <04427>

over <05921> Judah <03063>.

 30. And when Jehu <03058> was come <0935> to Jezreel <03157>,

Jezebel <0348> heard <08085> [of it]; and she painted her face

<05869>, and tired <03190> her head <07218>, and looked <08259>

out at <01157> a window <02474>.

31 And as Jehu <03058> entered <0935> in at the gate <08179>,

she said <0559>, [Had] Zimri <02174> peace <07965>, who slew

<02026> his master <0113>?

32 And he lifted <05375> up his face <06440> to the window

<02474>, and said <0559>, Who <04310> [is] on <0854> my side?

who <04310>? And there looked <08259> out to him two <08147>

[or] three <07969> eunuchs <05631>.

33 And he said <0559>, Throw <08058> her down <08058>. So they

threw <08058> her down <08058>: and [some] of her blood <01818>

was sprinkled <05137> on <0413> the wall <07023>, and on <0413>

the horses <05483>: and he trode <07429> her under foot.

34 And when he was come <0935> in, he did eat <0398> and drink

<08354>, and said <0559>, Go <06485>, see now <04994> this

<02063> cursed <0779> [woman], and bury <06912> her: for she

[is] a king's <04428> daughter <01323>.

35 And they went <03212> to bury <06912> her: but they found

<04672> no <03808> more of her than the skull <01538>, and the

feet <07272>, and the palms <03709> of [her] hands <03027>.

36 Wherefore they came <07725> again <07725>, and told <05046>

him. And he said <0559>, This <01931> [is] the word <01697> of

the LORD <03068>, which <0834> he spake <01696> by his servant

<05650> Elijah <0452> the Tishbite <08664>, saying <0559>, In

the portion <02506> of Jezreel <03157> shall dogs <03611> eat

<0398> the flesh <01320> of Jezebel <0348>:

37 And the carcase <05038> of Jezebel <0348> shall be as dung

<01828> upon the face <06440> of the field <07704> in the

portion <02506> of Jezreel <03157>; [so] that they shall not say

<0559>, This <02063> [is] Jezebel <0348>.

2Kings 10

 1. And Ahab <0256> had seventy <07657> sons <01121> in Samaria

<08111>. And Jehu <03058> wrote <03789> letters <05612>, and

sent <07971> to Samaria <08111>, unto the rulers <08269> of

Jezreel <03157>, to the elders <02205>, and to them that brought

<0539> up Ahab's <0256> [children], saying <0559>,

2 Now <06258> as soon as this <02088> letter <05612> cometh

<0935> to you, seeing your master's <0113> sons <01121> [are]

with you, and [there are] with you chariots <07393> and horses

<05483>, a fenced <04013> city <05892> also, and armour <05402>;

3 Look <07200> even out the best <02896> and meetest <03477> of

your master's <0113> sons <01121>, and set <07760> [him] on

<05921> his father's <01> throne <03678>, and fight <03898> for

your master's <0113> house <01004>.

4 But they were exceedingly <03966> afraid <03372>, and said

<0559>, Behold <02009>, two <08147> kings <04428> stood <05975>

not before <06440> him: how <0349> then shall we stand <05975>?

5 And he that [was] over <05921> the house <01004>, and he that

[was] over <05921> the city <05892>, the elders <02205> also,

and the bringers <0539> up [of the children], sent <07971> to

Jehu <03058>, saying <0559>, We [are] thy servants <05650>, and

will do <06213> all <03605> that thou shalt bid <0559> us; we

will not make any <0376> king <04427>: do <06213> thou [that

which is] good <02896> in thine eyes <05869>.

 6 Then he wrote <03789> a letter <05612> the second <08145>

time to them, saying <0559>, If <0518> ye [be] mine, and [if

<0518>] ye will hearken <08085> unto my voice <06963>, take

<03947> ye the heads <07218> of the men <0582> your master's

<0113> sons <01121>, and come <0935> to me to Jezreel <03157> by

to morrow <04279> this time <06256>. Now the king's <04428> sons

<01121>, [being] seventy <07657> persons <0376>, [were] with the

great <01419> men of the city <05892>, which brought <01431>

them up.

7 And it came <01961> to pass, when the letter <05612> came

<0935> to them, that they took <03947> the king's <04428> sons

<01121>, and slew <07819> seventy <07657> persons <0376>, and

put <07760> their heads <07218> in baskets <01731>, and sent

<07971> him [them] to Jezreel <03157>.

 8 And there came <0935> a messenger <04397>, and told <05046>

him, saying <0559>, They have brought <0935> the heads <07218>

of the king's <04428> sons <01121>. And he said <0559>, Lay

<07760> ye them in two <08147> heaps <06632> at the entering

<06607> in of the gate <08179> until <05704> the morning <01242>.

9 And it came <01961> to pass in the morning <01242>, that he

went <03318> out, and stood <05975>, and said <0559> to all

<03605> the people <05971>, Ye [be] righteous <06662>: behold

<02009>, I conspired <07194> against <05921> my master <0113>,

and slew <02026> him: but who <04310> slew <05221> all <03605>

these <0428>?

10 Know <03045> now <0645> that there shall fall <05307> unto

the earth <0776> nothing <03808> of the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> spake <01696> concerning

<05921> the house <01004> of Ahab <0256>: for the LORD <03068>

hath done <06213> [that] which <0834> he spake <01696> by his

servant <05650> Elijah <0452>.

11 So Jehu <03058> slew <05221> all <03605> that remained

<07604> of the house <01004> of Ahab <0256> in Jezreel <03157>,

and all <03605> his great <01419> men, and his kinsfolks <03045>,

and his priests <03548>, until <05704> he left <07604> him none

<01115> remaining <08300>.

12 And he arose <06965> and departed <0935>, and came <01980>

to Samaria <08111>. [And] as he [was] at the shearing house

<01004> in the way <01870>,

13 Jehu <03058> met <04672> with the brethren <0251> of Ahaziah

<0274> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and said <0559>, Who

<04310> [are] ye? And they answered <0559>, We [are] the

brethren <0251> of Ahaziah <0274>; and we go <03381> down

<03381> to salute <07965> the children <01121> of the king

<04428> and the children <01121> of the queen <01377>.

14 And he said <0559>, Take <08610> them alive <02416>. And

they took <08610> them alive <02416>, and slew <07819> them at

the pit <0953> of the shearing <01044> house <01004>, [even] two

<08147> and forty <0705> men <0376>; neither <03808> left

<07604> he any <0376> of them.

 15. And when he was departed <03212> thence <08033>, he lighted

<04672> on <0854> Jehonadab <03082> the son <01121> of Rechab

<07394> [coming] to meet <07125> him: and he saluted <01288> him,

and said <0559> to him, Is thine heart <03824> right <03225>,

as my heart <03824> [is] with thy heart <03824>? And Jehonadab

<03082> answered <0559>, It is. If it be, give <05414> [me]

thine hand <03027>. And he gave <05414> [him] his hand <03027>;

and he took <05927> him up to him into <0413> the chariot

<04818>.

16 And he said <0559>, Come <03212> with me, and see <07200> my

zeal <07068> for the LORD <03068>. So they made him ride <07392>

in his chariot <07393>.

17 And when he came <0935> to Samaria <08111>, he slew <05221>

all <03605> that remained <07604> unto Ahab <0256> in Samaria

<08111>, till <05704> he had destroyed <08045> him, according to

the saying <01697> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> he spake

<01696> to Elijah <0452>.

18 And Jehu <03058> gathered <06908> all <03605> the people

<05971> together, and said <0559> unto them, Ahab <0256> served

<05647> Baal <01168> a little <04592>; [but] Jehu <03058> shall

serve <05647> him much <07235>.

19 Now <06258> therefore call <07121> unto me all <03605> the

prophets <05030> of Baal <01168>, all <03605> his servants

<05647>, and all <03605> his priests <03548>; let none be

wanting <06485>: for I have a great <01419> sacrifice <02077>

[to do] to Baal <01168>; whosoever shall be wanting <06485>, he

shall not live <02421>. But Jehu <03058> did <06213> [it] in

subtilty <06122>, to the intent <04616> that he might destroy

<06> the worshippers <05647> of Baal <01168>.

 20 And Jehu <03058> said <0559>, Proclaim <06942> a solemn

<06116> assembly <06116> for Baal <01168>. And they proclaimed

<07121> [it].

21 And Jehu <03058> sent <07971> through all <03605> Israel

<03478>: and all <03605> the worshippers <05647> of Baal <01168>

came <0935>, so that there was not a man <0376> left <07604>

that came <0935> not. And they came <0935> into the house

<01004> of Baal <01168>; and the house <01004> of Baal <01168>

was full <04390> from one end <06310> to another.

22 And he said <0559> unto him that [was] over <05921> the

vestry <04458>, Bring <03318> forth <03318> vestments <03830>

for all <03605> the worshippers <05647> of Baal <01168>. And he

brought <03318> them forth <03318> vestments <04403>.

23 And Jehu <03058> went <0935>, and Jehonadab <03082> the son

<01121> of Rechab <07394>, into the house <01004> of Baal

<01168>, and said <0559> unto the worshippers <05647> of Baal

<01168>, Search <02664>, and look <07200> that there be here

<06311> with you none of the servants <05650> of the LORD

<03068>, but the worshippers <05647> of Baal <01168> only <0905>.

24 And when <03588> they went <0935> in to offer <06213>

sacrifices <02077> and burnt <05930> offerings, Jehu <03058>

appointed <07760> fourscore <08084> men <0376> without <02351>,

and said <0559>, [If] any of the men <0582> whom <0834> I have

brought <0935> into <05921> your hands <03027> escape <04422>,

[he that letteth him go], his life <02421> [shall be] for the

life <05315> of him.

25 And it came <01961> to pass, as soon as he had made an end

<03615> of offering <06213> the burnt <05930> offering, that

Jehu <03058> said <0559> to the guard <07323> and to the

captains <07991>, Go <0935> in, [and] slay <05221> them; let

none <0408> come <03381> forth <03318>. And they smote <05221>

them with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>; and the guard

<07323> and the captains <07991> cast <07993> [them] out, and

went <03212> to the city <05892> of the house <01004> of Baal

<01168>.

26 And they brought <03318> forth <03318> the images <04676>

out of the house <01004> of Baal <01168>, and burned <08313>

them.

27 And they brake <05422> down <05422> the image <04676> of

Baal <01168>, and brake <05422> down <05422> the house <01004>

of Baal <01168>, and made <07760> it a draught <04280> house

unto this <02088> day <03117>.

 28 Thus <03541> Jehu <03058> destroyed <08045> Baal <01168> out

of Israel <03478>.

 29. Howbeit [from] the sins <02399> of Jeroboam <03379> the son

<01121> of Nebat <05028>, who <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin

<02398>, Jehu <03058> departed <05493> not from after <0310>

them, [to wit], the golden <02091> calves <05695> that [were] in

Bethel <01008>, and that [were] in Dan <01835>.

30 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Jehu <03058>, Because

thou hast done well <02895> in executing <06213> [that which is]

right <03225> in mine eyes <05869>, [and] hast done <06213> unto

the house <01004> of Ahab <0256> according to all <03605> that

[was] in mine heart <03824>, thy children <01121> of the fourth

<07243> [generation] shall sit <03427> on <05921> the throne

<03678> of Israel <03478>.

31 But Jehu <03058> took no <03808> heed <08104> to walk

<03212> in the law <08451> of the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Israel <03478> with all <03605> his heart <03824>: for he

departed <05493> not from the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379>,

which <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

 32 In those <01992> days <03117> the LORD <03068> began <02490>

to cut <07096> Israel <03478> short: and Hazael <02371> smote

<05221> them in all <03605> the coasts <01366> of Israel <03478>;

33 From Jordan <03383> eastward, all <03605> the land <0776> of

Gilead <01568>, the Gadites <01425>, and the Reubenites <07206>,

and the Manassites <04520>, from Aroer <06177>, which <0834>

[is] by the river <05158> Arnon <0769>, even Gilead <01568> and

Bashan <01316>.

34 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jehu <03058>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, and all <03605> his might

<01369>, [are] they not written <03789> in the book <05612> of

the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>?

35 And Jehu <03058> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>: and

they buried <06912> him in Samaria <08111>. And Jehoahaz <03059>

his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

36 And the time <03117> that Jehu <03058> reigned <04427> over

<05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111> [was] twenty <06242>

and eight <08083> years <08141>.

2Kings 11

 1. And when Athaliah <06271> the mother <0517> of Ahaziah

<0274> saw <07200> that her son <01121> was dead <04191>, she

arose <06965> and destroyed <06> all <03605> the seed <02233>

royal <04467>.

2 But Jehosheba <03089>, the daughter <01323> of king <04428>

Joram <03141>, sister <0269> of Ahaziah <0274>, took <03947>

Joash <03101> the son <01121> of Ahaziah <0274>, and stole

<01589> him from among <08432> the king's <04428> sons <01121>

[which were] slain <04191>; and they hid <05641> him, [even] him

and his nurse <03243>, in the bedchamber from Athaliah <06271>,

so that he was not slain <04191>.

3 And he was with her hid <02244> in the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068> six <08337> years <08141>. And Athaliah <06271> did

reign <04427> over <05921> the land <0776>.

 4. And the seventh <07637> year <08141> Jehoiada <03111> sent

<07971> and fetched <03947> the rulers <08269> over hundreds

<03967>, with the captains <03746> and the guard <07323>, and

brought <0935> them to him into the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and made <03772> a covenant <01285> with them, and took

an oath <07650> of them in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

 and shewed <07200> them the king's <04428> son <01121>.

5 And he commanded <06680> them, saying <0559>, This <02088>

[is] the thing <01697> that ye shall do <06213>; A third <07992>

part of you that enter <0935> in on the sabbath <07676> shall

even be keepers <08104> of the watch <04931> of the king's

<04428> house <01004>;

6 And a third <07992> part [shall be] at the gate <08179> of

Sur <05495>; and a third <07992> part at the gate <08179> behind

<0310> the guard <07323>: so shall ye keep <08104> the watch

<04931> of the house <01004>, that it be not broken <04535> down

<04535>.

7 And two <08147> parts <03027> of all <03605> you that go

<03318> forth <03318> on the sabbath <07676>, even they shall

keep <08104> the watch <04931> of the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068> about <0413> the king <04428>.

8 And ye shall compass <05362> the king <04428> round <05439>

about, every man <0376> with his weapons <03627> in his hand

<03027>: and he that cometh <0935> within the ranges <07713>,

let him be slain <04191>: and be ye with the king <04428> as he

goeth <03318> out and as he cometh <0935> in.

9 And the captains <08269> over the hundreds <03967> did

<06213> according to all <03605> [things] that Jehoiada <03111>

the priest <03548> commanded <06680>: and they took <03947>

every man <0376> his men <0582> that were to come <0935> in on

the sabbath <07676>, with them that should go <03318> out on the

sabbath <07676>, and came <0935> to Jehoiada <03111> the priest

<03548>.

10 And to the captains <08269> over hundreds <03967> did the

priest <03548> give <05414> king <04428> David's <01732> spears

<02595> and shields <07982>, that [were] in the temple <01004>

of the LORD <03068>.

11 And the guard <07323> stood <05975>, every man <0376> with

his weapons <03627> in his hand <03027>, round <05439> about

<05921> the king <04428>, from the right <03233> corner <03802>

of the temple <01004> to the left <08042> corner <03802> of the

temple <01004>, [along] by the altar <04196> and the temple

<01004>.

 12 And he brought <03318> forth <03318> the king's <04428> son

<01121>, and put <05414> the crown <05145> upon him, and [gave

him] the testimony <05715>; and they made him king <04427>, and

anointed <04886> him; and they clapped <05221> their hands

<03709>, and said <0559>, God save <02421> the king <04428>.

 13. And when Athaliah <06271> heard <08085> the noise <06963>

of the guard <07323> [and] of the people <05971>, she came

<0935> to the people <05971> into the temple <01004> of the LORD

<03068>.

14 And when she looked <07200>, behold <02009>, the king

<04428> stood <05975> by a pillar <05982>, as the manner <04941>

[was], and the princes <08269> and the trumpeters <02689> by the

king <04428>, and all <03605> the people <05971> of the land

<0776> rejoiced <08056>, and blew <08628> with trumpets: and

Athaliah <06271> rent <07167> her clothes <0899>, and cried

<07121>, Treason <07195>, Treason <07195>.

 15 But Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548> commanded <06680>

the captains <08269> of the hundreds <03967>, the officers

<06485> of the host <02428>, and said <0559> unto them, Have

<03318> her forth <03318> without the ranges <07713>: and him

that followeth her kill <04191> with the sword <02719>. For the

priest <03548> had said <0559>, Let her not be slain <04191> in

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

16 And they laid <07760> hands <03027> on her; and she went

<0935> by the way <01870> by the which the horses <05483> came

<03996> into the king's <04428> house <01004>: and there <08033>

was she slain <04191>.

 17. And Jehoiada <03111> made <03772> a covenant <01285>

between <0996> the LORD <03068> and the king <04428> and the

people <05971>, that they should be the LORD'S <03068> people

<05971>; between <0996> the king <04428> also and the people

<05971>.

18 And all <03605> the people <05971> of the land <0776> went

<0935> into the house <01004> of Baal <01168>, and brake <05422>

it down <05422>; his altars <04196> and his images <06754> brake

<07665> they in pieces thoroughly <03190>, and slew <02026>

Mattan <04977> the priest <03548> of Baal <01168> before <06440>

the altars <04196>. And the priest <03548> appointed <07760>

officers <06486> over <05921> the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>.

19 And he took <03947> the rulers <08269> over hundreds <03967>,

and the captains <03746>, and the guard <07323>, and all

<03605> the people <05971> of the land <0776>; and they brought

<03381> down <03381> the king <04428> from the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, and came <0935> by the way <01870> of the gate

<08179> of the guard <07323> to the king's <04428> house <01004>.

And he sat <03427> on <05921> the throne <03678> of the kings

<04428>.

20 And all <03605> the people <05971> of the land <0776>

rejoiced <08055>, and the city <05892> was in quiet <08252>: and

they slew <04191> Athaliah <06271> with the sword <02719>

[beside] the king's <04428> house <01004>.

 21 Seven <07651> years <08141> old <01121> [was] Jehoash

<03060> when he began to reign <04427>.

2Kings 12

 1. In the seventh <07651> year <08141> of Jehu <03058> Jehoash

<03060> began to reign <04427>; and forty <0705> years <08141>

reigned <04427> he in Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's <0517>

name <08034> [was] Zibiah <06645> of Beersheba <0884>.

2 And Jehoash <03060> did <06213> [that which was] right

<03477> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068> all <03605> his

days <03117> wherein <0834> Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548>

instructed <03384> him.

3 But the high <01116> places were not taken <05493> away

<05493>: the people <05971> still <05750> sacrificed <02076> and

burnt <06999> incense <06999> in the high <01116> places.

 4. And Jehoash <03060> said <0559> to the priests <03548>, All

<03605> the money <03701> of the dedicated <06944> things that

is brought <0935> into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

[even] the money <03701> of every <03605> one that passeth

<05674> [the account], the money <03701> that every man <05315>

is set <06187> at, [and] all <03605> the money <03701> that

cometh <05927> into <05921> any man's <0376> heart <03820> to

bring <0935> into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

5 Let the priests <03548> take <03947> [it] to them, every man

<0376> of his acquaintance <04378>: and let them repair <02388>

the breaches <0919> of the house <01004>, wheresoever any <0376>

breach <0919> shall be found <04672>.

6 But it was [so, that] in the three <07969> and twentieth

<06242> year <08141> of king <04428> Jehoash <03060> the priests

<03548> had not repaired <02388> the breaches <0919> of the

house <01004>.

7 Then king <04428> Jehoash <03060> called <07121> for Jehoiada

<03111> the priest <03548>, and the [other] priests <03548>, and

said <0559> unto them, Why <04069> repair <02388> ye not the

breaches <0919> of the house <01004>? now <06258> therefore

receive <03947> no <0408> [more] money <03701> of your

acquaintance <04378>, but deliver <05414> it for the breaches

<0919> of the house <01004>.

8 And the priests <03548> consented <0225> to receive <03947>

no <01115> [more] money <03701> of the people <05971>, neither

<01115> to repair <02388> the breaches <0919> of the house

<01004>.

 9 But Jehoiada <03111> the priest <03548> took <03947> a chest

<0727>, and bored <05344> a hole <02356> in the lid <01817> of

it, and set <05414> it beside <0681> the altar <04196>, on the

right <03225> side <03225> as one <0376> cometh <0935> into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>: and the priests <03548> that

kept <08104> the door <05592> put <05414> therein <08033> all

<03605> the money <03701> [that was] brought <0935> into the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

10 And it was [so], when they saw <07200> that [there was] much

<07225> money <03701> in the chest <0727>, that the king's

<04428> scribe <05608> and the high <01419> priest <03548> came

<05927> up, and they put <06695> up in bags <06696>, and told

<04487> the money <03701> that was found <04672> in the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>.

11 And they gave <05414> the money <03701>, being told <08505>,

into <05921> the hands <03027> of them that did <06213> the work

<04399>, that had the oversight <06485> of the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>: and they laid <03318> it out to the carpenters

<06086> and builders <01129>, that wrought <06213> upon the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

12 And to masons <01443>, and hewers <02672> of stone <068>,

and to buy <07069> timber <06086> and hewed <04274> stone <068>

to repair <02388> the breaches <0919> of the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, and for all <03605> that was laid <03318> out

for the house <01004> to repair <02393> [it].

13 Howbeit there were not made <06213> for the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068> bowls <05592> of silver <03701>, snuffers

<04212>, basons <04219>, trumpets <02689>, any vessels <03627>

of gold <02091>, or vessels <03627> of silver <03701>, of the

money <03701> [that was] brought <0935> into the house <01004>

of the LORD <03068>:

14 But they gave <05414> that to the workmen, and repaired

<02388> therewith the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

15 Moreover they reckoned <02803> not with the men <0582>, into

<05921> whose <0834> hand <03027> they delivered <05414> the

money <03701> to be bestowed <05414> on workmen: for they dealt

<06213> faithfully <0530>.

16 The trespass <0817> money <03701> and sin money <03701> was

not brought <0935> into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>:

it was the priests <03548>'.

 17. Then <0227> Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758>

went <05927> up, and fought <03898> against <05921> Gath <01661>,

and took <03920> it: and Hazael <02371> set <07760> his face

<06440> to go <05927> up to Jerusalem <03389>.

18 And Jehoash <03060> king <04428> of Judah <03063> took

<03947> all <03605> the hallowed <06944> things that Jehoshaphat

<03092>, and Jehoram <03088>, and Ahaziah <0274>, his fathers

<01>, kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, had dedicated <06942>, and

his own hallowed <06944> things, and all <03605> the gold

<02091> [that was] found <04672> in the treasures <0214> of the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and in the king's <04428>

house <01004>, and sent <07971> [it] to Hazael <02371> king

<04428> of Syria <0758>: and he went <05927> away from Jerusalem

<03389>.

19 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Joash <03101>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written

<03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the

kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

20 And his servants <05650> arose <06965>, and made a

conspiracy <07195>, and slew <05221> Joash <03101> in the house

<01004> of Millo <04407>, which goeth <03381> down <03381> to

Silla <05538>.

21 For Jozachar <03108> the son <01121> of Shimeath <08100>,

and Jehozabad <03075> the son <01121> of Shomer <07763>, his

servants <05650>, smote <05221> him, and he died <04191>; and

they buried <06912> him with his fathers <01> in the city

<05892> of David <01732>: and Amaziah <0558> his son <01121>

reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Kings 13

 1. In the three <07969> and twentieth <06242> year <08141> of

Joash <03101> the son <01121> of Ahaziah <0274> king <04428> of

Judah <03063> Jehoahaz <03059> the son <01121> of Jehu <03058>

began to reign <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria

<08111>, [and reigned] seventeen <07651> years <08141>.

2 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, and followed the sins <02403> of

Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, which made

Israel <03478> to sin <02398>; he departed <05493> not therefrom.

3 And the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> was kindled <02734>

against Israel <03478>, and he delivered <05414> them into the

hand <03027> of Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758>, and

into the hand <03027> of Benhadad <01130> the son <01121> of

Hazael <02371>, all <03605> [their] days <03117>.

4 And Jehoahaz <03059> besought <02470> the LORD <03068>, and

the LORD <03068> hearkened <08085> unto him: for he saw <07200>

the oppression <03906> of Israel <03478>, because <03588> the

king <04428> of Syria <0758> oppressed <03905> them.

 5 (And the LORD <03068> gave <05414> Israel <03478> a saviour

<03467>, so that they went <03318> out from under <08478> the

hand <03027> of the Syrians <0758>: and the children <01121> of

Israel <03478> dwelt <03427> in their tents <0168>, as

beforetime <06440>.

6 Nevertheless <0389> they departed <05493> not from the sins

<02403> of the house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379>, who <0834>

made Israel <03478> sin <02398>, [but] walked <01980> therein:

and there remained <05975> the grove <0842> also <01571> in

Samaria <08111>.)

7 Neither <03808> did he leave <07604> of the people <05971> to

Jehoahaz <03059> but fifty <02572> horsemen <06571>, and ten

<06235> chariots <07393>, and ten <06235> thousand <0505>

footmen <07273>; for the king <04428> of Syria <0758> had

destroyed <06> them, and had made <07760> them like the dust

<06083> by threshing <01758>.

8 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jehoahaz <03059>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, and his might <01369>,

[are] they not written <03789> in the book <05612> of the

chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>?

9 And Jehoahaz <03059> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>; and

they buried <06912> him in Samaria <08111>: and Joash <03101>

his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

 10. In the thirty <07970> and seventh <07651> year <08141> of

Joash <03101> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began Jehoash

<03060> the son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059> to reign <04427>

over <05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111>, [and reigned]

sixteen years <08141>.

11 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>; he departed <05493> not from

all <03605> the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121>

of Nebat <05028>, who <0834> made Israel <03478> sin <02398>:

[but] he walked <01980> therein.

12 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Joash <03101>,

and all <03605> that he did, and his might <01369> wherewith

<0834> he fought <03898> against <05973> Amaziah <0558> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, [are] they not written <03789> in the

book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of

Israel <03478>?

13 And Joash <03101> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>; and

Jeroboam <03379> sat <03427> upon his throne <03678>: and Joash

<03101> was buried <06912> in Samaria <08111> with the kings

<04428> of Israel <03478>.

14 Now Elisha <0477> was fallen sick <02470> of his sickness

<02483> whereof <0834> he died <04191>. And Joash <03101> the

king <04428> of Israel <03478> came <03381> down <03381> unto

him, and wept <01058> over <05921> his face <06440>, and said

<0559>, O my father <01>, my father <01>, the chariot <07393> of

Israel <03478>, and the horsemen <06571> thereof.

15 And Elisha <0477> said <0559> unto him, Take <03947> bow

<07198> and arrows <02671>. And he took <03947> unto him bow

<07198> and arrows <02671>.

16 And he said <0559> to the king <04428> of Israel <03478>,

Put <07392> thine hand <03027> upon the bow <07198>. And he put

<07760> his hand <03027> [upon it]: and Elisha <0477> put

<07760> his hands <03027> upon the king's <04428> hands <03027>.

17 And he said <0559>, Open <06605> the window <02474> eastward

<06924>. And he opened <06605> [it]. Then Elisha <0477> said

<0559>, Shoot <03384>. And he shot <03384>. And he said <0559>,

The arrow <02671> of the LORD'S <03068> deliverance <08668>, and

the arrow <02671> of deliverance <08668> from Syria <0758>: for

thou shalt smite <05221> the Syrians <0758> in Aphek <0663>,

till <05704> thou have consumed <03615> [them].

18 And he said <0559>, Take <03947> the arrows <02671>. And he

took <03947> [them]. And he said <0559> unto the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>, Smite <05221> upon the ground <0776>. And he

smote <05221> thrice, and stayed <05975>.

19 And the man <0376> of God <0430> was wroth <07107> with him,

and said <0559>, Thou shouldest have smitten <05221> five

<02568> or <0176> six <08337> times <06471>; then <0227> hadst

thou smitten <05221> Syria <0758> till <05704> thou hadst

consumed <03615> [it]: whereas <06258> now <06258> thou shalt

smite <05221> Syria <0758> [but] thrice.

 20. And Elisha <0477> died <04191>, and they buried <06912> him.

And the bands <01416> of the Moabites <04124> invaded <0935>

the land <0776> at the coming <0935> in of the year <08141>.

21 And it came <01961> to pass, as they were burying <06912> a

man <0376>, that, behold <02009>, they spied <07200> a band

<01416> [of men]; and they cast <07993> the man <0376> into the

sepulchre <06913> of Elisha <0477>: and when the man <0376> was

let <03212> down <03212>, and touched <05060> the bones <06106>

of Elisha <0477>, he revived <02421>, and stood <06965> up on

<05921> his feet <07272>.

22 But Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758> oppressed

<03905> Israel <03478> all <03605> the days <03117> of Jehoahaz

<03059>.

23 And the LORD <03068> was gracious <02603> unto them, and had

compassion <07355> on them, and had respect <06437> unto them,

because <04616> of his covenant <01285> with Abraham <085>,

Isaac <03327>, and Jacob <03290>, and would <014> not destroy

<07843> them, neither <03808> cast <07993> he them from his

presence <06440> as yet.

 24 So Hazael <02371> king <04428> of Syria <0758> died <04191>;

and Benhadad <01130> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his

stead <08478>.

25 And Jehoash <03060> the son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059> took

<03947> again <07725> out of the hand <03027> of Benhadad

<01130> the son <01121> of Hazael <02371> the cities <05892>,

which <0834> he had taken <03947> out of the hand <03027> of

Jehoahaz <03059> his father <01> by war <04421>. Three <07969>

times <06471> did Joash <03101> beat <05221> him, and recovered

<07725> the cities <05892> of Israel <03478>.

2Kings 14

 1. In the second <08147> year <08141> of Joash <03101> son

<01121> of Jehoahaz <03059> king <04428> of Israel <03478>

reigned <04427> Amaziah <0558> the son <01121> of Joash <03101>

king <04428> of Judah <03063>.

2 He was twenty <06242> and five <02568> years <08141> old

<01121> when he began to reign <04427>, and reigned <04427>

twenty <06242> and nine <08672> years <08141> in Jerusalem

<03389>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Jehoaddan

<03086> of Jerusalem <03389>.

3 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, yet <07535> not like David

<01732> his father <01>: he did <06213> according to all <03605>

things as Joash <03101> his father <01> did <06213>.

4 Howbeit the high <01116> places were not taken <05493> away

<05493>: as yet <05750> the people <05971> did sacrifice <02076>

and burnt <06999> incense <06999> on the high <01116> places.

5 And it came <01961> to pass, as soon <0834> as the kingdom

<04467> was confirmed <02388> in his hand <03027>, that he slew

<05221> his servants <05650> which <0834> had slain <05221> the

king <04428> his father <01>.

6 But the children <01121> of the murderers <05221> he slew

<04191> not: according unto that which is written <03789> in the

book <05612> of the law <08451> of Moses <04872>, wherein <0834>

the LORD <03068> commanded <06680>, saying <0559>, The fathers

<01> shall not be put <04191> to death <04191> for the children

<01121>, nor <03808> the children <01121> be put <04191> to

death <04191> for the fathers <01>; but every man <0376> shall

be put <04191> to death <04191> for his own sin <02399>.

7 He slew <05221> of Edom <0123> in the valley <01516> of salt

<04417> ten <06235> thousand <0505>, and took <08610> Selah

<05554> by war <04421>, and called <07121> the name <08034> of

it Joktheel <03371> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

 8. Then <0227> Amaziah <0558> sent <07971> messengers <04397>

to Jehoash <03060>, the son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059> son

<01121> of Jehu <03058>, king <04428> of Israel <03478>, saying

<0559>, Come <03212>, let us look <07200> one another in the

face <06440>.

9 And Jehoash <03060> the king <04428> of Israel <03478> sent

<07971> to Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, saying

<0559>, The thistle <02336> that [was] in Lebanon <03844> sent

<07971> to the cedar <0730> that [was] in Lebanon <03844>,

saying <0559>, Give <05414> thy daughter <01323> to my son

<01121> to wife <0802>: and there passed <05674> by a wild

<07704> beast <02416> that [was] in Lebanon <03844>, and trode

<07429> down the thistle <02336>.

10 Thou hast indeed smitten <05221> Edom <0123>, and thine

heart <03820> hath lifted <05375> thee up: glory <03513> [of

this], and tarry <03427> at home <01004>: for why shouldest thou

meddle <01624> to [thy] hurt <07451>, that thou shouldest fall

<05307>, [even] thou, and Judah <03063> with thee?

11 But Amaziah <0558> would not hear <08085>. Therefore Jehoash

<03060> king <04428> of Israel <03478> went <05927> up; and he

and Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063> looked <07200>

one another in the face <06440> at Bethshemesh <01053>, which

<0834> [belongeth] to Judah <03063>.

12 And Judah <03063> was put to the worse <05062> before

<06440> Israel <03478>; and they fled <05127> every man <0376>

to their tents <0168>.

13 And Jehoash <03060> king <04428> of Israel <03478> took

<08610> Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, the son

<01121> of Jehoash <03060> the son <01121> of Ahaziah <0274>, at

Bethshemesh <01053>, and came <0935> to Jerusalem <03389>, and

brake <06555> down the wall <02346> of Jerusalem <03389> from

the gate <08179> of Ephraim <0669> unto the corner <06438> gate

<08179>, four <0702> hundred <03967> cubits <0520>.

14 And he took <03947> all <03605> the gold <02091> and silver

<03701>, and all <03605> the vessels <03627> that were found

<04672> in the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and in the

treasures <0214> of the king's <04428> house <01004>, and

hostages, and returned <07725> to Samaria <08111>.

 15. Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jehoash <03060>

which <0834> he did <06213>, and his might <01369>, and how

<0834> he fought <03898> with Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of

Judah <03063>, [are] they not written <03789> in the book

<05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel

<03478>?

16 And Jehoash <03060> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

was buried <06912> in Samaria <08111> with the kings <04428> of

Israel <03478>; and Jeroboam <03379> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

17 And Amaziah <0558> the son <01121> of Joash <03101> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> lived <02421> after <0310> the death

<04194> of Jehoash <03060> son <01121> of Jehoahaz <03059> king

<04428> of Israel <03478> fifteen <06240> years <08141>.

18 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Amaziah <0558>,

[are] they not written <03789> in the book <05612> of the

chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

19 Now they made a conspiracy <07195> against <05921> him in

Jerusalem <03389>: and he fled <05127> to Lachish <03923>; but

they sent <07971> after <0310> him to Lachish <03923>, and slew

<04191> him there <08033>.

20 And they brought <05375> him on <05921> horses <05483>: and

he was buried <06912> at Jerusalem <03389> with his fathers <01>

in the city <05892> of David <01732>.

21 And all <03605> the people <05971> of Judah <03063> took

<03947> Azariah <05838>, which <01931> [was] sixteen years

<08141> old <01121>, and made him king <04427> instead <08478>

of his father <01> Amaziah <0558>.

22 He built <01129> Elath <0359>, and restored <07725> it to

Judah <03063>, after <0310> that the king <04428> slept <07901>

with his fathers <01>.

 23. In the fifteenth <06240> year <08141> of Amaziah <0558> the

son <01121> of Joash <03101> king <04428> of Judah <03063>

Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Joash <03101> king <04428>

of Israel <03478> began to reign <04427> in Samaria <08111>,

[and reigned] forty <0705> and one <0259> years <08141>.

24 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>: he departed <05493> not from

all <03605> the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121>

of Nebat <05028>, who <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

25 He restored <07725> the coast <01366> of Israel <03478> from

the entering <0935> of Hamath <02574> unto the sea <03220> of

the plain <06160>, according to the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, which <0834> he spake

<01696> by the hand <03027> of his servant <05650> Jonah <03124>,

the son <01121> of Amittai <0573>, the prophet <05030>, which

<0834> [was] of Gathhepher <01662>.

26 For the LORD <03068> saw <07200> the affliction <06040> of

Israel <03478>, [that it was] very <03966> bitter <04784>: for

[there was] not any shut <06113> up, nor <0369> any left <05800>,

nor <0369> any helper <05826> for Israel <03478>.

27 And the LORD <03068> said <01696> not that he would blot

<04229> out the name <08034> of Israel <03478> from under

<08478> heaven <08064>: but he saved <03467> them by the hand

<03027> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Joash <03101>.

28 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jeroboam <03379>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, and his might <01369>, how

<0834> he warred <03898>, and how <0834> he recovered <07725>

Damascus <01834>, and Hamath <02574>, [which belonged] to Judah

<03063>, for Israel <03478>, are they not written <03789> in the

book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of

Israel <03478>?

29 And Jeroboam <03379> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>,

[even] with the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>; and Zachariah

<02148> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Kings 15

 1. In the twenty <06242> and seventh <07651> year <08141> of

Jeroboam <03379> king <04428> of Israel <03478> began Azariah

<05838> son <01121> of Amaziah <0558> king <04428> of Judah

<03063> to reign <04427>.

2 Sixteen years <08141> old <01121> was he when he began to

reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427> two <08147> and fifty

<02572> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's

<0517> name <08034> [was] Jecholiah <03203> of Jerusalem <03389>.

3 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, according to all <03605> that

his father <01> Amaziah <0558> had done <06213>;

4 Save <07535> that the high <01116> places were not removed

<05493>: the people <05971> sacrificed <02076> and burnt <06999>

incense <06999> still <05750> on the high <01116> places.

5 And the LORD <03068> smote <05221> the king <04428>, so that

he was a leper <06879> unto the day <03117> of his death <04194>,

and dwelt <03427> in a several <02669> house <01004>. And

Jotham <03147> the king's <04428> son <01121> [was] over <05921>

the house <01004>, judging <08199> the people <05971> of the

land <0776>.

6 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Azariah <05838>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written

<03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the

kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

7 So Azariah <05838> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>; and

they buried <06912> him with his fathers <01> in the city

<05892> of David <01732>: and Jotham <03147> his son <01121>

reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

 8. In the thirty <07970> and eighth <08083> year <08141> of

Azariah <05838> king <04428> of Judah <03063> did Zachariah

<02148> the son <01121> of Jeroboam <03379> reign <04427> over

<05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111> six <08337> months

<02320>.

9 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, as his fathers <01> had done

<06213>: he departed <05493> not from the sins <02403> of

Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, who <0834>

made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

10 And Shallum <07967> the son <01121> of Jabesh <03003>

conspired <07194> against <05921> him, and smote <05221> him

before <06905> the people <05971>, and slew <04191> him, and

reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

11 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Zachariah

<02148>, behold <02009>, they [are] written <03789> in the book

<05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel

<03478>.

12 This <01931> [was] the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>

which <0834> he spake <01696> unto Jehu <03058>, saying <0559>,

Thy sons <01121> shall sit <03427> on <05921> the throne <03678>

of Israel <03478> unto the fourth <07243> [generation]. And so

<03651> it came <01961> to pass.

13 Shallum <07967> the son <01121> of Jabesh <03003> began to

reign <04427> in the nine <08672> and thirtieth <07970> year

<08141> of Uzziah <05818> king <04428> of Judah <03063>; and he

reigned <04427> a full <03117> month <03391> in Samaria <08111>.

14 For Menahem <04505> the son <01121> of Gadi <01424> went

<05927> up from Tirzah <08656>, and came <0935> to Samaria

<08111>, and smote <05221> Shallum <07967> the son <01121> of

Jabesh <03003> in Samaria <08111>, and slew <04191> him, and

reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

15 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Shallum <07967>,

and his conspiracy <07195> which <0834> he made <07194>, behold

<02009>, they [are] written <03789> in the book <05612> of the

chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>.

 16 Then <0227> Menahem <04505> smote <05221> Tiphsah <08607>,

and all <03605> that [were] therein, and the coasts <01366>

thereof from Tirzah <08656>: because <03588> they opened <06605>

not [to him], therefore he smote <05221> [it; and] all <03605>

the women therein that were with child <02030> he ripped <01234>

up.

17 In the nine <08672> and thirtieth <07970> year <08141> of

Azariah <05838> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began Menahem

<04505> the son <01121> of Gadi <01424> to reign <04427> over

<05921> Israel <03478>, [and reigned] ten <06235> years <08141>

in Samaria <08111>.

18 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>: he departed <05493> not all

<03605> his days <03117> from the sins <02403> of Jeroboam

<03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, who <0834> made Israel

<03478> to sin <02398>.

19 [And] Pul <06322> the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> came

<0935> against <05921> the land <0776>: and Menahem <04505> gave

<05414> Pul <06322> a thousand <0505> talents <03603> of silver

<03701>, that his hand <03027> might be with him to confirm

<02388> the kingdom <04467> in his hand <03027>.

20 And Menahem <04505> exacted <03318> the money <03701> of

Israel <03478>, [even] of all <03605> the mighty <01368> men of

wealth <02428>, of each <0259> man <0376> fifty <02572> shekels

<08255> of silver <03701>, to give <05414> to the king <04428>

of Assyria <0804>. So the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> turned

<07725> back <07725>, and stayed <05975> not there <08033> in

the land <0776>.

21 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Menahem <04505>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written

<03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the

kings <04428> of Israel <03478>?

22 And Menahem <04505> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>; and

Pekahiah <06494> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

23 In the fiftieth <02572> year <08141> of Azariah <05838> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> Pekahiah <06494> the son <01121> of

Menahem <04505> began to reign <04427> over <05921> Israel

<03478> in Samaria <08111>, [and reigned] two <08147> years

<08141>.

24 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>: he departed <05493> not from

the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat

<05028>, who <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

 25 But Pekah <06492> the son <01121> of Remaliah <07425>, a

captain <07991> of his, conspired <07194> against <05921> him,

and smote <05221> him in Samaria <08111>, in the palace <0759>

of the king's <04428> house <01004>, with Argob <0709> and Arieh

<0745>, and with him fifty <02572> men <0376> of the Gileadites

<01569>: and he killed <04191> him, and reigned <04427> in his

room <08478>.

26 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Pekahiah <06494>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, behold <02009>, they [are]

written <03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of

the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>.

27 In the two <08147> and fiftieth <02572> year <08141> of

Azariah <05838> king <04428> of Judah <03063> Pekah <06492> the

son <01121> of Remaliah <07425> began to reign <04427> over

<05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111>, [and reigned] twenty

<06242> years <08141>.

28 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>: he departed <05493> not from

the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat

<05028>, who <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

29 In the days <03117> of Pekah <06492> king <04428> of Israel

<03478> came <0935> Tiglathpileser <08407> king <04428> of

Assyria <0804>, and took <03947> Ijon <05859>, and

Abelbethmaachah <062>, and Janoah <03239>, and Kedesh <06943>,

and Hazor <02674>, and Gilead <01568>, and Galilee <01551>, all

<03605> the land <0776> of Naphtali <05321>, and carried <01540>

them captive <01540> to Assyria <0804>.

 30 And Hoshea <01954> the son <01121> of Elah <0425> made a

conspiracy <07195> against <05921> Pekah <06492> the son <01121>

of Remaliah <07425>, and smote <05221> him, and slew <04191> him,

and reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>, in the twentieth

<06242> year <08141> of Jotham <03147> the son <01121> of Uzziah

<05818>.

31 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Pekah <06492>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, behold <02009>, they [are]

written <03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of

the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>.

 32. In the second <08147> year <08141> of Pekah <06492> the son

<01121> of Remaliah <07425> king <04428> of Israel <03478> began

Jotham <03147> the son <01121> of Uzziah <05818> king <04428> of

Judah <03063> to reign <04427>.

 33 Five <02568> and twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121>

was he when he began to reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427>

sixteen years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's

<0517> name <08034> [was] Jerusha <03388>, the daughter <01323>

of Zadok <06659>.

34 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>: he did <06213> according to

all <03605> that his father <01> Uzziah <05818> had done <06213>.

35 Howbeit the high <01116> places were not removed <05493>:

the people <05971> sacrificed <02076> and burned <06999> incense

<06999> still <05750> in the high <01116> places. He built

<01129> the higher <05945> gate <08179> of the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>.

36 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jotham <03147>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written

<03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the

kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

 37 In those <01992> days <03117> the LORD <03068> began <02490>

to send <07971> against Judah <03063> Rezin <07526> the king

<04428> of Syria <0758>, and Pekah <06492> the son <01121> of

Remaliah <07425>.

38 And Jotham <03147> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

was buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892> of

David <01732> his father <01>: and Ahaz <0271> his son <01121>

reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Kings 16

 1. In the seventeenth <07651> year <08141> of Pekah <06492> the

son <01121> of Remaliah <07425> Ahaz <0271> the son <01121> of

Jotham <03147> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began to reign

<04427>.

 2 Twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121> [was] Ahaz <0271>

when he began to reign <04427>, and reigned <04427> sixteen

years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>, and did <06213> not [that

which was] right <03477> in the sight <05869> of the LORD

<03068> his God <0430>, like David <01732> his father <01>.

3 But he walked <03212> in the way <01870> of the kings <04428>

of Israel <03478>, yea <01571>, and made his son <01121> to pass

<05674> through the fire <0784>, according to the abominations

<08441> of the heathen <01471>, whom <0834> the LORD <03068>

cast <03423> out from before <06440> the children <01121> of

Israel <03478>.

4 And he sacrificed <02076> and burnt <06999> incense <06999>

in the high <01116> places, and on <05921> the hills <01389>,

and under <08478> every <03605> green <07488> tree <06086>.

 5. Then <0227> Rezin <07526> king <04428> of Syria <0758> and

Pekah <06492> son <01121> of Remaliah <07425> king <04428> of

Israel <03478> came <05927> up to Jerusalem <03389> to war

<04421>: and they besieged <06696> Ahaz <0271>, but could

<03201> not overcome <03898> [him].

6 At that time <06256> Rezin <07526> king <04428> of Syria

<0758> recovered <07725> Elath <0359> to Syria <0758>, and drave

<05394> the Jews <03064> from Elath <0359>: and the Syrians

<0758> came <0935> to Elath <0359>, and dwelt <03427> there

<08033> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

 7 So Ahaz <0271> sent <07971> messengers <04397> to

Tiglathpileser <08407> king <04428> of Assyria <0804>, saying

<0559>, I [am] thy servant <05650> and thy son <01121>: come

<05927> up, and save <03467> me out of the hand <03709> of the

king <04428> of Syria <0758>, and out of the hand <03709> of the

king <04428> of Israel <03478>, which rise <06965> up against

<05921> me.

8 And Ahaz <0271> took <03947> the silver <03701> and gold

<02091> that was found <04672> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and in the treasures <0214> of the king's <04428> house

<01004>, and sent <07971> [it for] a present <07810> to the king

<04428> of Assyria <0804>.

9 And the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> hearkened <08085> unto

him: for the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> went <05927> up

against <0413> Damascus <01834>, and took <08610> it, and

carried <01540> [the people of] it captive <01540> to Kir

<07024>, and slew <04191> Rezin <07526>.

 10. And king <04428> Ahaz <0271> went <03212> to Damascus

<01834> to meet <07125> Tiglathpileser <08407> king <04428> of

Assyria <0804>, and saw <07200> an altar <04196> that [was] at

Damascus <01834>: and king <04428> Ahaz <0271> sent <07971> to

Urijah <0223> the priest <03548> the fashion <01823> of the

altar <04196>, and the pattern <08403> of it, according to all

<03605> the workmanship <04639> thereof.

11 And Urijah <0223> the priest <03548> built <01129> an altar

<04196> according to all <03605> that king <04428> Ahaz <0271>

had sent <07971> from Damascus <01834>: so <03651> Urijah <0223>

the priest <03548> made <06213> [it] against <05704> king

<04428> Ahaz <0271> came <0935> from Damascus <01834>.

12 And when the king <04428> was come <0935> from Damascus

<01834>, the king <04428> saw <07200> the altar <04196>: and the

king <04428> approached <07126> to the altar <04196>, and

offered <05927> thereon <05921>.

13 And he burnt <06999> his burnt <06999> offering and his meat

offering <04503>, and poured <05258> his drink <05262> offering,

and sprinkled <02236> the blood <01818> of his peace <08002>

offerings, upon the altar <04196>.

14 And he brought <07126> also the brasen <05178> altar <04196>,

which <0834> [was] before <06440> the LORD <03068>, from the

forefront <06440> of the house <01004>, from between <0996> the

altar <04196> and the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and put

<05414> it on <05921> the north <06828> side <03409> of the

altar <04196>.

 15 And king <04428> Ahaz <0271> commanded <06680> Urijah <0223>

the priest <03548>, saying <0559>, Upon the great <01419> altar

<04196> burn <06999> the morning <01242> burnt <05930> offering,

and the evening <06153> meat offering <04503>, and the king's

<04428> burnt <05930> sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the

burnt <05930> offering of all <03605> the people <05971> of the

land <0776>, and their meat offering <04503>, and their drink

<05262> offerings; and sprinkle <02236> upon it all <03605> the

blood <01818> of the burnt <05930> offering, and all <03605> the

blood <01818> of the sacrifice <02077>: and the brasen <05178>

altar <04196> shall be for me to enquire <01239> [by].

16 Thus did <06213> Urijah <0223> the priest <03548>, according

to all <03605> that king <04428> Ahaz <0271> commanded <06680>.

 17. And king <04428> Ahaz <0271> cut <07112> off the borders

<04526> of the bases <04350>, and removed <05493> the laver

<03595> from off <05921> them; and took <03381> down <03381> the

sea <03220> from off <05921> the brasen <05178> oxen <01241>

that [were] under <08478> it, and put <05414> it upon a pavement

<04837> of stones <068>.

18 And the covert <04329> for the sabbath <07676> that they had

built <01129> in the house <01004>, and the king's <04428> entry

<03996> without <02435>, turned <05437> he from the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068> for the king <04428> of Assyria

<0804>.

19 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Ahaz <0271>

which <0834> he did <06213>, [are] they not written <03789> in

the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428>

of Judah <03063>?

20 And Ahaz <0271> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and was

buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892> of

David <01732>: and Hezekiah <02396> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Kings 17

 1. In the twelfth year <08141> of Ahaz <0271> king <04428> of

Judah <03063> began Hoshea <01954> the son <01121> of Elah

<0425> to reign <04427> in Samaria <08111> over <05921> Israel

<03478> nine <08672> years <08141>.

2 And he did <06213> [that which was] evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, but not as the kings <04428> of

Israel <03478> that were before <06440> him.

3 Against <05921> him came <05927> up Shalmaneser <08022> king

<04428> of Assyria <0804>; and Hoshea <01954> became <01961> his

servant <05650>, and gave <07725> him presents <04503>.

4 And the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> found <04672>

conspiracy <07195> in Hoshea <01954>: for he had sent <07971>

messengers <04397> to So <05471> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>,

and brought <05927> no <03808> present <04503> to the king

<04428> of Assyria <0804>, as [he had done] year <08141> by year

<08141>: therefore the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> shut

<06113> him up, and bound <0631> him in prison.

5 Then the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> came <05927> up

throughout all <03605> the land <0776>, and went <05927> up to

Samaria <08111>, and besieged <06696> it three <07969> years

<08141>.

6 In the ninth <08671> year <08141> of Hoshea <01954> the king

<04428> of Assyria <0804> took <03920> Samaria <08111>, and

carried <01540> Israel <03478> away <01540> into Assyria <0804>,

and placed <03427> them in Halah <02477> and in Habor <02249>

[by] the river <05104> of Gozan <01470>, and in the cities

<05892> of the Medes <04074>.

 7. For [so] it was, that the children <01121> of Israel <03478>

had sinned <02398> against the LORD <03068> their God <0430>,

which had brought <05927> them up out of the land <0776> of

Egypt <04714>, from under <08478> the hand <03027> of Pharaoh

<06547> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>, and had feared <03372>

other <0312> gods <0430>,

8 And walked <03212> in the statutes <02708> of the heathen

<01471>, whom <0834> the LORD <03068> cast <03423> out from

before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and of

the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>, which <0834> they had made

<06213>.

9 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did secretly

<02644> [those] things <01697> that [were] not right <03651>

against <05921> the LORD <03068> their God <0430>, and they

built <01129> them high <01116> places in all <03605> their

cities <05892>, from the tower <04026> of the watchmen <05341>

to the fenced <04013> city <05892>.

10 And they set <05324> them up images <04676> and groves

<0842> in every <03605> high <01364> hill <01389>, and under

<08478> every <03605> green <07488> tree <06086>:

11 And there <08033> they burnt <06999> incense <06999> in all

<03605> the high <01116> places, as [did] the heathen <01471>

whom <0834> the LORD <03068> carried <01540> away <01540> before

<06440> them; and wrought <06213> wicked <07451> things <01697>

to provoke the LORD <03068> to anger <03707>:

12 For they served <05647> idols <01544>, whereof <0834> the

LORD <03068> had said <0559> unto them, Ye shall not do <06213>

this <02088> thing <01697>.

13 Yet the LORD <03068> testified <05749> against Israel

<03478>, and against Judah <03063>, by all <03605> the prophets

<05030>, [and by] all <03605> the seers <02374>, saying <0559>,

Turn <07725> ye from your evil <07451> ways <01870>, and keep

<08104> my commandments <04687> [and] my statutes <02708>,

according to all <03605> the law <08451> which <0834> I

commanded <06680> your fathers <01>, and which <0834> I sent

<07971> to you by my servants <05650> the prophets <05030>.

14 Notwithstanding they would not hear <08085>, but hardened

<07185> their necks <06203>, like to the neck <06203> of their

fathers <01>, that did not believe <0539> in the LORD <03068>

their God <0430>.

15 And they rejected <03988> his statutes <02706>, and his

covenant <01285> that he made <03772> with their fathers <01>,

and his testimonies <05715> which <0834> he testified <05749>

against them; and they followed vanity <01892>, and became

<01891> vain <01891>, and went <03212> after <0310> the heathen

<01471> that [were] round <05439> about them, [concerning] whom

<0834> the LORD <03068> had charged <06680> them, that they

should not do <06213> like them.

16 And they left <05800> all <03605> the commandments <04687>

of the LORD <03068> their God <0430>, and made <06213> them

molten <04541> images, [even] two <08147> calves <05695>, and

made <06213> a grove <0842>, and worshipped <07812> all <03605>

the host <06635> of heaven <08064>, and served <05647> Baal

<01168>.

17 And they caused their sons <01121> and their daughters

<01121> to pass <05674> through the fire <0784>, and used

divination <07081> and enchantments <05172>, and sold <04376>

themselves to do <06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of

the LORD <03068>, to provoke him to anger <03707>.

18 Therefore the LORD <03068> was very <03966> angry <0599>

with Israel <03478>, and removed <05493> them out of his sight

<06440>: there was none <03808> left <07604> but the tribe

<07626> of Judah <03063> only <0905>.

19 Also <01571> Judah <03063> kept <08104> not the commandments

<04687> of the LORD <03068> their God <0430>, but walked <03212>

in the statutes <02708> of Israel <03478> which <0834> they made

<06213>.

20 And the LORD <03068> rejected <03988> all <03605> the seed

<02233> of Israel <03478>, and afflicted <06031> them, and

delivered <05414> them into the hand <03027> of spoilers <08154>,

until <05704> he had cast <07993> them out of his sight <06440>.

21 For he rent <07167> Israel <03478> from the house <01004> of

David <01732>; and they made Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of

Nebat <05028> king <04427>: and Jeroboam <03379> drave <05071>

Israel <03478> from following <0310> the LORD <03068>, and made

them sin <02398> a great <01419> sin <02401>.

22 For the children <01121> of Israel <03478> walked <03212> in

all <03605> the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379> which <0834> he

did <06213>; they departed <05493> not from them;

 23 Until <05704> the LORD <03068> removed <05493> Israel

<03478> out of his sight <06440>, as he had said <01696> by all

<03605> his servants <05650> the prophets <05030>. So was Israel

<03478> carried <01540> away <01540> out of their own land

<0127> to Assyria <0804> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

 24. And the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> brought <0935> [men]

from Babylon <0894>, and from Cuthah <03575>, and from Ava

<05755>, and from Hamath <02574>, and from Sepharvaim <05617>,

and placed <03427> [them] in the cities <05892> of Samaria

<08111> instead <08478> of the children <01121> of Israel

<03478>: and they possessed <03423> Samaria <08111>, and dwelt

<03427> in the cities <05892> thereof.

25 And [so] it was at the beginning <08462> of their dwelling

<03427> there <08033>, [that] they feared <03372> not the LORD

<03068>: therefore the LORD <03068> sent <07971> lions <0738>

among them, which slew <02026> [some] of them.

26 Wherefore they spake <0559> to the king <04428> of Assyria

<0804>, saying <0559>, The nations <01471> which <0834> thou

hast removed <01540>, and placed <03427> in the cities <05892>

of Samaria <08111>, know <03045> not the manner <04941> of the

God <0430> of the land <0776>: therefore he hath sent <07971>

lions <0738> among them, and, behold <02009>, they slay <04191>

them, because <0834> they know <03045> not the manner <04941> of

the God <0430> of the land <0776>.

27 Then the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> commanded <06680>,

saying <0559>, Carry <01980> thither <08033> one <0259> of the

priests <03548> whom <0834> ye brought <01540> from thence

<08033>; and let them go <03212> and dwell <03427> there <08033>,

and let him teach <03384> them the manner <04941> of the God

<0430> of the land <0776>.

28 Then one <0259> of the priests <03548> whom <0834> they had

carried <01540> away <01540> from Samaria <08111> came <0935>

and dwelt <03427> in Bethel <01008>, and taught <03384> them how

<0349> they should fear <03372> the LORD <03068>.

29 Howbeit every nation <01471> made <06213> gods <0430> of

their own, and put <03240> [them] in the houses <01004> of the

high <01116> places which <0834> the Samaritans <08118> had made

<06213>, every nation <01471> in their cities <05892> wherein

they dwelt <03427>.

30 And the men <0582> of Babylon <0894> made <06213>

Succothbenoth <05524>, and the men <0582> of Cuth <03575> made

<06213> Nergal <05370>, and the men <0582> of Hamath <02574>

made <06213> Ashima <0807>,

31 And the Avites <05757> made <06213> Nibhaz <05026> and

Tartak <08662>, and the Sepharvites <05616> burnt <08313> their

children <01121> in fire <0784> to Adrammelech <0152> and

Anammelech <06048>, the gods <0430> of Sepharvaim <05617>.

32 So they feared <03373> the LORD <03068>, and made <06213>

unto themselves of the lowest <07098> of them priests <03548> of

the high <01116> places, which <01961> sacrificed <06213> for

them in the houses <01004> of the high <01116> places.

33 They feared <03373> the LORD <03068>, and served <05647>

their own gods <0430>, after the manner <04941> of the nations

<01471> whom <0834> they carried <01540> away <01540> from

thence <08033>.

34 Unto this <02088> day <03117> they do <06213> after the

former <07223> manners <04941>: they fear <03373> not the LORD

<03068>, neither <0369> do <06213> they after their statutes

<02708>, or after their ordinances <04941>, or after <0310> the

law <08451> and commandment <04687> which <0834> the LORD

<03068> commanded <06680> the children <01121> of Jacob <03290>,

whom <0834> he named <08034> Israel <03478>;

35 With whom the LORD <03068> had made <03772> a covenant

<01285>, and charged <06680> them, saying <0559>, Ye shall not

fear <03372> other <0312> gods <0430>, nor <03808> bow <07812>

yourselves to them, nor <03808> serve <05647> them, nor <03808>

sacrifice <02076> to them:

36 But the LORD <03068>, who <0834> brought <05927> you up out

of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714> with great <01419> power

<03581> and a stretched <05186> out arm <02220>, him shall ye

fear <03372>, and him shall ye worship <07812>, and to him shall

ye do sacrifice <02076>.

37 And the statutes <02706>, and the ordinances <04941>, and

the law <08451>, and the commandment <04687>, which <0834> he

wrote <03789> for you, ye shall observe <08104> to do <06213>

for evermore; and ye shall not fear <03372> other <0312> gods

<0430>.

38 And the covenant <01285> that I have made <03772> with you

ye shall not forget <07911>; neither <03808> shall ye fear

<03372> other <0312> gods <0430>.

 39 But the LORD <03068> your God <0430> ye shall fear <03372>;

and he shall deliver <05337> you out of the hand <03027> of all

<03605> your enemies <0341>.

40 Howbeit they did not hearken <08085>, but they did <06213>

after their former <07223> manner <04941>.

41 So these <0428> nations <01471> feared <03373> the LORD

<03068>, and served <05647> their graven <06456> images, both

<01571> their children <01121>, and their children's <01121>

children <01121>: as did <06213> their fathers <01>, so do

<06213> they unto this <02088> day <03117>.

2Kings 18

 1. Now it came <01961> to pass in the third <07969> year

<08141> of Hoshea <01954> son <01121> of Elah <0425> king

<04428> of Israel <03478>, [that] Hezekiah <02396> the son

<01121> of Ahaz <0271> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began to

reign <04427>.

 2 Twenty <06242> and five <02568> years <08141> old <01121> was

he when he began to reign <04427>; and he reigned <04427> twenty

<06242> and nine <08672> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His

mother's <0517> name <08034> also [was] Abi <021>, the daughter

<01323> of Zachariah <02148>.

3 And he did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the

sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, according to all <03605> that

David <01732> his father <01> did <06213>.

4 He removed <05493> the high <01116> places, and brake <07665>

the images <04676>, and cut <03772> down the groves <0842>, and

brake <03807> in pieces the brasen <05178> serpent <05175> that

Moses <04872> had made <06213>: for unto those <01992> days

<03117> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did burn <06999>

incense <06999> to it: and he called <07121> it Nehushtan

<05180>.

5 He trusted <0982> in the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>; so that after <0310> him was none <03808> like <03644>

him among all <03605> the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>, nor

[any] that were before <06440> him.

6 For he clave <01692> to the LORD <03068>, [and] departed

<05493> not from following <0310> him, but kept <08104> his

commandments <04687>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> commanded

<06680> Moses <04872>.

7 And the LORD <03068> was with him; [and] he prospered <07919>

whithersoever he went <03318> forth <03318>: and he rebelled

<04775> against the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>, and served

<05647> him not.

8 He smote <05221> the Philistines <06430>, [even] unto Gaza

<05804>, and the borders <01366> thereof, from the tower <04026>

of the watchmen <05341> to the fenced <04013> city <05892>.

 9. And it came <01961> to pass in the fourth <07243> year

<08141> of king <04428> Hezekiah <02396>, which <01958> [was]

the seventh <07651> year <08141> of Hoshea <01954> son <01121>

of Elah <0425> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, [that]

Shalmaneser <08022> king <04428> of Assyria <0804> came <05957>

up against <05921> Samaria <08111>, and besieged <06696> it.

10 And at the end <07097> of three <07969> years <08141> they

took <03920> it: [even] in the sixth <08337> year <08141> of

Hezekiah <02396>, that [is] the ninth <08672> year <08141> of

Hoshea <01954> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, Samaria <08111>

was taken <03920>.

11 And the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> did carry <01540>

away <01540> Israel <03478> unto Assyria <0804>, and put <05148>

them in Halah <02477> and in Habor <02249> [by] the river

<05104> of Gozan <01470>, and in the cities <05892> of the Medes

<04074>:

12 Because they obeyed <08085> not the voice <06963> of the

LORD <03068> their God <0430>, but transgressed <05674> his

covenant <01285>, [and] all <03605> that Moses <04872> the

servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> commanded <06680>, and would

not hear <08085> [them], nor <03808> do <06213> [them].

13 Now in the fourteenth year <08141> of king <04428> Hezekiah

<02396> did Sennacherib <05576> king <04428> of Assyria <0804>

come <05927> up against <05921> all <03605> the fenced <01219>

cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, and took <08610> them.

14 And Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063> sent

<07971> to the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> to Lachish <03923>,

saying <0559>, I have offended <02398>; return <07725> from me:

that which <0834> thou puttest <05414> on <05921> me will I bear

<05375>. And the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> appointed

<07760> unto Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063>

three <07969> hundred <03967> talents <03603> of silver <03701>

and thirty <07970> talents <03603> of gold <02091>.

15 And Hezekiah <02396> gave <05414> [him] all <03605> the

silver <03701> that was found <04672> in the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, and in the treasures <0214> of the king's

<04428> house <01004>.

16 At that time <06256> did Hezekiah <02396> cut <07112> off

[the gold from] the doors <01817> of the temple <01964> of the

LORD <03068>, and [from] the pillars <0547> which <0834>

Hezekiah <02396> king <04428> of Judah <03063> had overlaid

<06823>, and gave <05414> it to the king <04428> of Assyria

<0804>.

 17. And the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> sent <07971> Tartan

<08661> and Rabsaris <07249> and Rabshakeh <07262> from Lachish

<03923> to king <04428> Hezekiah <02396> with a great <03515>

host <02426> against Jerusalem <03389>. And they went <05927> up

and came <0935> to Jerusalem <03389>. And when they were come

<05927> up, they came <0935> and stood <05975> by the conduit

<08585> of the upper <05945> pool <01295>, which <0834> [is] in

the highway <04546> of the fuller's <03526> field <07704>.

18 And when they had called <07121> to the king <04428>, there

came <03318> out to them Eliakim <0471> the son <01121> of

Hilkiah <02518>, which <0834> [was] over <05921> the household

<01004>, and Shebna <07644> the scribe <05608>, and Joah <03098>

the son <01121> of Asaph <0623> the recorder <02142>.

19 And Rabshakeh <07262> said <0559> unto them, Speak <0559> ye

now <04994> to Hezekiah <02396>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

great <01419> king <04428>, the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>,

What <04100> confidence <0986> [is] this <02088> wherein <0834>

thou trustest <0982>?

20 Thou sayest <0559>, (but [they are but] vain <08193> words

<01697>,) [I have] counsel <06098> and strength <01369> for the

war <04421>. Now <06258> on <05921> whom <04310> dost thou trust

<0982>, that thou rebellest <04775> against me?

21 Now <06258>, behold <02009>, thou trustest <0982> upon the

staff <04938> of this <02088> bruised <07533> reed <07070>,

[even] upon Egypt <04714>, on <05921> which <0834> if <0834> a

man <0376> lean <05564>, it will go <0935> into his hand <03709>,

and pierce <05344> it: so <03651> [is] Pharaoh <06547> king

<04428> of Egypt <04714> unto all <03605> that trust <0982> on

<05921> him.

22 But if <03588> ye say <0559> unto me, We trust <0982> in the

LORD <03068> our God <0430>: [is] not that he, whose high

<01116> places and whose altars <04196> Hezekiah <02396> hath

taken <05493> away <05493>, and hath said <0559> to Judah

<03063> and Jerusalem <03389>, Ye shall worship <07812> before

<06440> this <02088> altar <04196> in Jerusalem <03389>?

23 Now <06258> therefore, I pray <04994> thee, give pledges

<06148> to my lord <0113> the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>,

and I will deliver <05414> thee two thousand <0505> horses

<05483>, if <0518> thou be able <03201> on thy part to set

<05414> riders <07392> upon them.

24 How <0349> then wilt thou turn <07725> away the face <06440>

of one <0259> captain <06346> of the least <06996> of my

master's <0113> servants <05650>, and put thy trust <0982> on

<05921> Egypt <04714> for chariots <07393> and for horsemen

<06571>?

 25 Am I now <06258> come <05927> up without <01107> the LORD

<03068> against <05921> this <02088> place <04725> to destroy

<07843> it? The LORD <03068> said <0559> to me, Go <05927> up

against <05921> this <02063> land <0776>, and destroy <07843> it.

26 Then said <0559> Eliakim <0471> the son <01121> of Hilkiah

<02518>, and Shebna <07644>, and Joah <03098>, unto Rabshakeh

<07262>, Speak <01696>, I pray <04994> thee, to thy servants

<05650> in the Syrian <0762> language; for we understand <08085>

[it]: and talk <01696> not with us in the Jews <03066>' language

in the ears <0241> of the people <05971> that [are] on <05921>

the wall <02346>.

27 But Rabshakeh <07262> said <0559> unto them, Hath my master

<0113> sent <07971> me to thy master <0113>, and to thee, to

speak <01696> these <0428> words <01697>? [hath he] not [sent

me] to the men <0582> which sit <03427> on <05921> the wall

<02346>, that they may eat <0398> their own dung, and drink

<08354> their own piss <07890> with you?

28 Then Rabshakeh <07262> stood <05975> and cried <07121> with

a loud <01419> voice <06963> in the Jews <03066>' language, and

spake <01696>, saying <0559>, Hear <08085> the word <01697> of

the great <01419> king <04428>, the king <04428> of Assyria

<0804>:

29 Thus <03541> saith <0559> the king <04428>, Let not Hezekiah

<02396> deceive <05377> you: for he shall not be able <03201> to

deliver <05337> you out of his hand <03027>:

30 Neither <0408> let Hezekiah <02396> make you trust <0982> in

the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>, The LORD <03068> will surely

deliver <05337> us, and this <02063> city <05892> shall not be

delivered <05414> into the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of

Assyria <0804>.

31 Hearken <08085> not to Hezekiah <02396>: for thus <03541>

saith <0559> the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>, Make <06213>

[an agreement] with me by a present <01293>, and come <03318>

out to me, and [then] eat <0398> ye every man <0376> of his own

vine <01612>, and every <0376> one <0376> of his fig <08384>

tree, and drink <08354> ye every <0376> one <0376> the waters

<04325> of his cistern <0953>:

 32 Until <05704> I come <0935> and take <03947> you away to a

land <0776> like your own land <0776>, a land <0776> of corn

<01715> and wine <08492>, a land <0776> of bread <03899> and

vineyards <03754>, a land <0776> of oil <03323> olive <02132>

and of honey <01706>, that ye may live <02421>, and not die

<04191>: and hearken <08085> not unto Hezekiah <02396>, when

<03588> he persuadeth <05496> you, saying <0559>, The LORD

<03068> will deliver <05337> us.

33 Hath any <0376> of the gods <0430> of the nations <01471>

delivered <05337> at all his land <0776> out of the hand <03027>

of the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>?

34 Where <0346> [are] the gods <0430> of Hamath <02574>, and of

Arpad <0774>? where <0346> [are] the gods <0430> of Sepharvaim

<05617>, Hena <02012>, and Ivah <05755>? have they delivered

<05337> Samaria <08111> out of mine hand <03027>?

35 Who <04310> [are] they among all <03605> the gods <0430> of

the countries <0776>, that have delivered <05337> their country

<0776> out of mine hand <03027>, that the LORD <03068> should

deliver <05337> Jerusalem <03389> out of mine hand <03027>?

36 But the people <05971> held <02790> their peace <02790>, and

answered <06030> him not a word <01697>: for the king's <04428>

commandment <04687> was, saying <0559>, Answer <06030> him not.

37 Then came <0935> Eliakim <0471> the son <01121> of Hilkiah

<02518>, which <0834> [was] over <05921> the household <01004>,

and Shebna <07644> the scribe <05608>, and Joah <03098> the son

<01121> of Asaph <0623> the recorder <02142>, to Hezekiah

<02396> with [their] clothes <0899> rent <07167>, and told

<05046> him the words <01697> of Rabshakeh <07262>.

2Kings 19

 1. And it came <01961> to pass, when king <04428> Hezekiah

<02396> heard <08085> [it], that he rent <07167> his clothes

<0899>, and covered <03680> himself with sackcloth <08242>, and

went <0935> into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

2 And he sent <07971> Eliakim <0471>, which <0834> [was] over

<05921> the household <01004>, and Shebna <07644> the scribe

<05608>, and the elders <02205> of the priests <03548>, covered

<03680> with sackcloth <08242>, to Isaiah <03470> the prophet

<05030> the son <01121> of Amoz <0531>.

3 And they said <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559>

Hezekiah <02396>, This <02088> day <03117> [is] a day <03117> of

trouble <06869>, and of rebuke <08433>, and blasphemy <05007>:

for the children <01121> are come <0935> to the birth <04866>,

and [there is] not strength <03581> to bring <03205> forth

<03205>.

4 It may <0194> be the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> will hear

<08085> all <03605> the words <01697> of Rabshakeh <07262>, whom

<0834> the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> his master <0113> hath

sent <07971> to reproach <02778> the living <02416> God <0430>;

and will reprove <03198> the words <01697> which <0834> the LORD

<03068> thy God <0430> hath heard <08085>: wherefore lift

<05375> up [thy] prayer <08605> for the remnant <07611> that are

left <04672>.

5 So the servants <05650> of king <04428> Hezekiah <02396> came

<0935> to Isaiah <03470>.

6 And Isaiah <03470> said <0559> unto them, Thus <03541> shall

ye say <0559> to your master <0113>, Thus <03541> saith <0559>

the LORD <03068>, Be not afraid <03372> of the words <01697>

which <0834> thou hast heard <08085>, with which <0834> the

servants <05288> of the king <04428> of Assyria <0804> have

blasphemed <01442> me.

 7 Behold <02005>, I will send <05414> a blast <07307> upon him,

and he shall hear <08085> a rumour <08052>, and shall return

<07725> to his own land <0776>; and I will cause him to fall

<05307> by the sword <02719> in his own land <0776>.

 8. So Rabshakeh <07262> returned <07725>, and found <04672> the

king <04428> of Assyria <0804> warring <03898> against <05921>

Libnah <03841>: for he had heard <08085> that he was departed

<05265> from Lachish <03923>.

9 And when he heard <08085> say <0559> of Tirhakah <08640> king

<04428> of Ethiopia <03568>, Behold <02009>, he is come <03318>

out to fight <03898> against thee: he sent <07971> messengers

<04397> again <07725> unto Hezekiah <02396>, saying <0559>,

10 Thus <03541> shall ye speak <0559> to Hezekiah <02396> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, saying <0559>, Let not thy God <0430>

in whom <0834> thou trustest <0982> deceive <05377> thee, saying

<0559>, Jerusalem <03389> shall not be delivered <05414> into

the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>.

11 Behold <02009>, thou hast heard <08085> what the kings

<04428> of Assyria <0804> have done <06213> to all <03605> lands

<0776>, by destroying <02763> them utterly: and shalt thou be

delivered <05337>?

12 Have the gods <0430> of the nations <01471> delivered

<05337> them which <0834> my fathers <01> have destroyed <0843>;

[as] Gozan <01470>, and Haran <02771>, and Rezeph <07530>, and

the children <01121> of Eden <05731> which <0834> [were] in

Thelasar <08515>?

13 Where <0346> [is] the king <04428> of Hamath <02574>, and

the king <04428> of Arpad <0774>, and the king <04428> of the

city <05892> of Sepharvaim <05617>, of Hena <02012>, and Ivah

<05755>?

14 And Hezekiah <02396> received <03947> the letter <05612> of

the hand <03027> of the messengers <04397>, and read <07121> it:

and Hezekiah <02396> went <05927> up into the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, and spread <06566> it before <06440> the LORD

<03068>.

15 And Hezekiah <02396> prayed <06419> before <06440> the LORD

<03068>, and said <0559>, O LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, which dwellest <03427> [between] the cherubims <03742>,

thou art the God <0430>, [even] thou alone <0905>, of all

<03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the earth <0776>; thou hast made

<06213> heaven <08064> and earth <0776>.

 16 LORD <03068>, bow <05186> down <05186> thine ear <0241>, and

hear <08085>: open <06491>, LORD <03068>, thine eyes <05869>,

and see <07200>: and hear <08085> the words <01697> of

Sennacherib <05576>, which <0834> hath sent <07971> him to

reproach <02778> the living <02416> God <0430>.

 17 Of a truth <0551>, LORD <03068>, the kings <04428> of

Assyria <0804> have destroyed <02717> the nations <01471> and

their lands <0776>,

18 And have cast <05414> their gods <0430> into the fire <0784>:

for they [were] no <03808> gods <0430>, but the work <04639> of

men's <0120> hands <03027>, wood <06086> and stone <068>:

therefore they have destroyed <06> them.

 19 Now <06258> therefore, O LORD <03068> our God <0430>, I

beseech <04994> thee, save <03467> thou us out of his hand

<03027>, that all <03605> the kingdoms <04467> of the earth

<0776> may know <03045> that thou [art] the LORD <03068> God

<0430>, [even] thou only <0905>.

 20. Then Isaiah <03470> the son <01121> of Amoz <0531> sent

<07971> to Hezekiah <02396>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, [That]

which <0834> thou hast prayed <06419> to me against <0413>

Sennacherib <05576> king <04428> of Assyria <0804> I have heard

<08085>.

21 This <02088> [is] the word <01697> that the LORD <03068>

hath spoken <01696> concerning <05921> him; The virgin <01330>

the daughter <01323> of Zion <06726> hath despised <0959> thee,

[and] laughed <03932> thee to scorn; the daughter <01323> of

Jerusalem <03389> hath shaken <05128> her head <07218> at thee.

22 Whom hast thou reproached <02778> and blasphemed <01442>?

and against <05921> whom <04310> hast thou exalted <07311> [thy]

voice <06963>, and lifted <05375> up thine eyes <05869> on high

<04791>? [even] against <05921> the Holy <06918> [One] of Israel

<03478>.

23 By thy messengers <04397> thou hast reproached <02778> the

Lord <03068>, and hast said <0559>, With the multitude <07393>

of my chariots <07393> I am come <05927> up to the height

<04791> of the mountains <02022>, to the sides <03411> of

Lebanon <03844>, and will cut <03772> down the tall <06967>

cedar <0730> trees thereof, [and] the choice <04005> fir <01265>

trees thereof: and I will enter <0935> into the lodgings <04411>

of his borders <07093>, [and into] the forest <03293> of his

Carmel <03760>.

 24 I have digged <05365> and drunk <08354> strange <02114>

waters <04325>, and with the sole <03709> of my feet <06471>

have I dried <02717> up all <03605> the rivers <02975> of

besieged <04693> places.

 25 Hast thou not heard <08085> long <07350> ago <07350> [how] I

have done <06213> it, [and] of ancient <06924> times <03117>

that I have formed <03335> it? now <06258> have I brought <0935>

it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste <07582> fenced

<01219> cities <05892> [into] ruinous <05327> heaps <01530>.

26 Therefore their inhabitants <03427> were of small <07116>

power <03027>, they were dismayed <02865> and confounded <0954>;

they were [as] the grass <06212> of the field <07704>, and [as]

the green <03410> herb <01877>, [as] the grass <02682> on the

housetops <01406>, and [as corn] blasted <07711> before <06440>

it be grown <06965> up.

 27 But I know <03045> thy abode <03427>, and thy going <03318>

out, and thy coming <0935> in, and thy rage <07264> against

<0413> me.

28 Because <03282> thy rage <07264> against <0413> me and thy

tumult <07600> is come <05927> up into mine ears <0241>,

therefore I will put <07760> my hook <02397> in thy nose <0639>,

and my bridle <04964> in thy lips <08193>, and I will turn

<07725> thee back <07725> by the way <01870> by which <0834>

thou camest <0935>.

29 And this <02088> [shall be] a sign <0226> unto thee, Ye

shall eat <0398> this year <08141> such things as grow <05599>

of themselves, and in the second <08145> year <08141> that which

springeth <07823> of the same; and in the third <07992> year

<08141> sow <02232> ye, and reap <07114>, and plant <05193>

vineyards <03754>, and eat <0398> the fruits <06529> thereof.

30 And the remnant <07604> that is escaped <06413> of the house

<01004> of Judah <03063> shall yet again <03254> take <03947>

root <08328> downward <04295>, and bear <06213> fruit <06529>

upward <04605>.

31 For out of Jerusalem <03389> shall go <03318> forth <03318>

a remnant <07611>, and they that escape <06413> out of mount

<02022> Zion <06726>: the zeal <07068> of the LORD <03068> [of

hosts] shall do <06213> this <02063>.

 32 Therefore <03651> thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>

concerning <0413> the king <04428> of Assyria <0804>, He shall

not come <0935> into <0413> this city <05892>, nor <03808> shoot

<03384> an arrow <02671> there <08033>, nor <03808> come <06923>

before <06924> it with shield <04043>, nor cast <08210> a bank

<05550> against <05921> it.

33 By the way <01870> that he came <0935>, by the same shall he

return <07725>, and shall not come <0935> into <0413> this

<02063> city <05892>, saith <05002> the LORD <03068>.

 34 For I will defend <01598> this <02063> city <05892>, to save

<03467> it, for mine own sake <04616>, and for my servant

<05650> David's <01732> sake <04616>.

 35. And it came <01961> to pass that night <03915>, that the

angel <04397> of the LORD <03068> went <03318> out, and smote

<05221> in the camp <04264> of the Assyrians <0804> an hundred

<03967> fourscore <08084> and five <02568> thousand <0505>: and

when they arose <07925> early <07925> in the morning <01242>,

behold <02009>, they [were] all <03605> dead <04191> corpses

<06297>.

 36 So Sennacherib <05576> king <04428> of Assyria <0804>

departed <05265>, and went <03212> and returned <07725>, and

dwelt <03427> at Nineveh <05210>.

37 And it came <01961> to pass, as he was worshipping <07812>

in the house <01004> of Nisroch <05268> his god <0430>, that

Adrammelech <0152> and Sharezer <08272> his sons <01121> smote

<05221> him with the sword <02719>: and they escaped <04422>

into the land <0776> of Armenia <0780>. And Esarhaddon <0634>

his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

2Kings 20

 1. In those <01992> days <03117> was Hezekiah <02396> sick

<02470> unto death <04191>. And the prophet <05030> Isaiah

<03470> the son <01121> of Amoz <0531> came <0935> to him, and

said <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>,

Set thine house <01004> in order <06680>; for thou shalt die

<04191>, and not live <02421>.

2 Then he turned <05437> his face <06440> to the wall <07023>,

and prayed <06419> unto the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>,

 3 I beseech <0577> thee, O LORD <03068>, remember <02142> now

<04994> how <0834> I have walked <01980> before <06440> thee in

truth <0571> and with a perfect <08003> heart <03824>, and have

done <06213> [that which is] good <02896> in thy sight <05869>.

And Hezekiah <02396> wept <01058> sore <01419>.

4 And it came <01961> to pass, afore <03808> Isaiah <03470> was

gone <03318> out into the middle <08484> court <05892>, that the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to him, saying

<0559>,

 5 Turn <07725> again <07725>, and tell <0559> Hezekiah <02396>

the captain <05057> of my people <05971>, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068>, the God <0430> of David <01732> thy

father <01>, I have heard <08085> thy prayer <08605>, I have

seen <07200> thy tears <01832>: behold <02005>, I will heal

<07495> thee: on the third <07992> day <03117> thou shalt go

<05927> up unto the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

 6 And I will add <03254> unto thy days <03117> fifteen <06240>

years <08141>; and I will deliver <05337> thee and this <02063>

city <05892> out of the hand <03709> of the king <04428> of

Assyria <0804>; and I will defend <01598> this city <05892> for

mine own sake <04616>, and for my servant <05650> David's

<01732> sake <04616>.

 7 And Isaiah <03470> said <0559>, Take <03947> a lump <01690>

of figs <08384>. And they took <03947> and laid <07760> [it] on

<05921> the boil <07822>, and he recovered <02421>.

8 And Hezekiah <02396> said <0559> unto Isaiah <03470>, What

<04100> [shall be] the sign <0226> that the LORD <03068> will

heal <07495> me, and that I shall go <05927> up into the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068> the third <07992> day <03117>?

 9 And Isaiah <03470> said <0559>, This <02088> sign <0226>

shalt thou have of the LORD <03068>, that the LORD <03068> will

do <06213> the thing that he hath spoken <01696>: shall the

shadow <06738> go <01980> forward ten <06235> degrees <04609>,

or go <07725> back <07725> ten <06235> degrees <04609>?

 10 And Hezekiah <02396> answered <0559>, It is a light <07043>

thing for the shadow <06738> to go <05186> down <05186> ten

<06235> degrees <04609>: nay <03808>, but let the shadow <06738>

return <07725> backward <0322> ten <06235> degrees <04609>.

11 And Isaiah <03470> the prophet <05030> cried <07121> unto

the LORD <03068>: and he brought <07725> the shadow <06738> ten

<06235> degrees <04609> backward <0322>, by which <0834> it had

gone <03381> down <03381> in the dial <04609> of Ahaz <0271>.

 12. At that time <06256> Berodachbaladan <01255>, the son

<01121> of Baladan <01081>, king <04428> of Babylon <0894>, sent

<07971> letters <05612> and a present <04503> unto Hezekiah

<02396>: for he had heard <08085> that Hezekiah <02396> had been

<01961> sick <02470>.

13 And Hezekiah <02396> hearkened <08085> unto them, and shewed

<07200> them all <03605> the house <01004> of his precious

<05238> things, the silver <03701>, and the gold <02091>, and

the spices <01314>, and the precious <02896> ointment <08081>,

and [all <03605>] the house <01004> of his armour <03627>, and

all <03605> that was found <04672> in his treasures <0214>:

there was nothing in his house <01004>, nor in all <03605> his

dominion <04475>, that Hezekiah <02396> shewed <07200> them not.

14 Then came <0935> Isaiah <03470> the prophet <05030> unto

king <04428> Hezekiah <02396>, and said <0559> unto him, What

<04100> said <0559> these <0428> men <0582>? and from whence

<0370> came <0935> they unto thee? And Hezekiah <02396> said

<0559>, They are come <0935> from a far <07350> country <0776>,

[even] from Babylon <0894>.

15 And he said <0559>, What <04100> have they seen <07200> in

thine house <01004>? And Hezekiah <02396> answered <0559>, All

<03605> [the things] that [are] in mine house <01004> have they

seen <07200>: there is nothing <01697> among my treasures <0214>

that I have not shewed <07200> them.

16 And Isaiah <03470> said <0559> unto Hezekiah <02396>, Hear

<08085> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

17 Behold <02009>, the days <03117> come <0935>, that all

<03605> that [is] in thine house <01004>, and that which <0834>

thy fathers <01> have laid up in store <0686> unto this <02088>

day <03117>, shall be carried <05375> into Babylon <0894>:

nothing shall be left <03498>, saith <0559> the LORD <03068>.

18 And of thy sons <01121> that shall issue <03318> from thee,

which <0834> thou shalt beget <03205>, shall they take <03947>

away; and they shall be eunuchs <05631> in the palace <01964> of

the king <04428> of Babylon <0894>.

19 Then said <0559> Hezekiah <02396> unto Isaiah <03470>, Good

<02896> [is] the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> which <0834>

thou hast spoken <01696>. And he said <0559>, [Is it] not [good],

if <0518> peace <07965> and truth <0571> be in my days <03117>?

20 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Hezekiah <02396>,

and all <03605> his might <01369>, and how <0834> he made

<06213> a pool <01295>, and a conduit <08585>, and brought

<0935> water <04325> into the city <05892>, [are] they not

written <03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of

the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

21 And Hezekiah <02396> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>:

and Manasseh <04519> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his

stead <08478>.

2Kings 21

 1. Manasseh <04519> [was] twelve years <08141> old <01121> when

he began to reign <04427>, and reigned <04427> fifty <02572> and

five <02568> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. And his

mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Hephzibah <02657>.

2 And he did <06213> [that which <0834> was] evil <07451> in

the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, after the abominations

<08441> of the heathen <01471>, whom <0834> the LORD <03068>

cast <03423> out before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel

<03478>.

3 For he built <01129> up again <07725> the high <01116> places

which <0834> Hezekiah <02396> his father <01> had destroyed <06>;

and he reared <06965> up altars <04196> for Baal <01168>, and

made <06213> a grove <0842>, as did <06213> Ahab <0256> king

<04428> of Israel <03478>; and worshipped <07812> all <03605>

the host <06635> of heaven <08064>, and served <05647> them.

4 And he built <01129> altars <04196> in the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, of which <0834> the LORD <03068> said <0559>,

In Jerusalem <03389> will I put <07760> my name <08034>.

5 And he built <01129> altars <04196> for all <03605> the host

<06635> of heaven <08064> in the two <08147> courts <02691
