1Kings 1

 1. Now king <04428> David <01732> was old <02204> [and]

stricken <0935> in years <03117>; and they covered <03680> him

with clothes <0899>, but he gat no <03808> heat <03179>.

2 Wherefore his servants <05650> said <0559> unto him, Let

there be sought <01245> for my lord <0113> the king <04428> a

young <05291> virgin <01330>: and let her stand <05975> before

<06440> the king <04428>, and let her cherish <05532> him, and

let her lie <07901> in thy bosom <02436>, that my lord <0113>

the king <04428> may get heat <02552>.

 3 So they sought <01245> for a fair <03303> damsel <05291>

throughout all <03605> the coasts <01366> of Israel <03478>, and

found <04672> Abishag <049> a Shunammite <07767>, and brought

<0935> her to the king <04428>.

4 And the damsel <05291> [was] very <03966> fair <03303>, and

cherished <05532> the king <04428>, and ministered <08334> to

him: but the king <04428> knew <03045> her not.

 5. Then Adonijah <0138> the son <01121> of Haggith <02294>

exalted <05375> himself, saying <0559>, I will be king <04427>:

and he prepared <06213> him chariots <07393> and horsemen

<06571>, and fifty <02572> men <0376> to run <07323> before

<06440> him.

6 And his father <01> had not displeased <06087> him at any

time <03117> in saying <0559>, Why <04069> hast thou done

<06213> so <03602>? and he also <01571> [was a] very <03966>

goodly <02896> [man]; and [his mother] bare him after <0310>

Absalom <053>.

7 And he conferred with Joab <03097> the son <01121> of Zeruiah

<06870>, and with Abiathar <054> the priest <03548>: and they

following <0310> Adonijah <0138> helped <05826> [him].

8 But Zadok <06659> the priest <03548>, and Benaiah <01141> the

son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111>, and Nathan <05416> the prophet

<05030>, and Shimei <08096>, and Rei <07472>, and the mighty

<01368> men which <0834> [belonged] to David <01732>, were not

with Adonijah <0138>.

9 And Adonijah <0138> slew <02076> sheep <06629> and oxen

<01241> and fat <04806> cattle <04806> by the stone <068> of

Zoheleth, which <0834> [is] by Enrogel <05883>, and called

<07121> all <03605> his brethren <0251> the king's <04428> sons

<01121>, and all <03605> the men <0582> of Judah <03063> the

king's <04428> servants <05650>:

10 But Nathan <05416> the prophet <05030>, and Benaiah <01141>,

and the mighty <01368> men, and Solomon <08010> his brother

<0251>, he called <07121> not.

 11. Wherefore Nathan <05416> spake <0559> unto Bathsheba

<01339> the mother <0517> of Solomon <08010>, saying <0559>,

Hast thou not heard <08085> that Adonijah <0138> the son <01121>

of Haggith <02294> doth reign <04427>, and David <01732> our

lord <0113> knoweth <03045> [it] not?

 12 Now <06258> therefore come <03212>, let me, I pray <04994>

thee, give thee counsel <06098>, that thou mayest save <04422>

thine own life <05315>, and the life <05315> of thy son <01121>

Solomon <08010>.

13 Go <03212> and get <0935> thee in unto king <04428> David

<01732>, and say <0559> unto him, Didst not thou, my lord <0113>,

 O king <04428>, swear <07650> unto thine handmaid <0519>,

saying <0559>, Assuredly <03588> Solomon <08010> thy son <01121>

shall reign <04427> after <0310> me, and he shall sit <03427>

upon my throne <03678>? why <04069> then doth Adonijah <0138>

reign <04427>?

14 Behold <02009>, while thou yet <05750> talkest <01696> there

<08033> with the king <04428>, I also will come <0935> in after

<0310> thee, and confirm <04390> thy words <01697>.

15 And Bathsheba <01339> went <0935> in unto the king <04428>

into the chamber <02315>: and the king <04428> was very <03966>

old <02204>; and Abishag <049> the Shunammite <07767> ministered

<08334> unto the king <04428>.

16 And Bathsheba <01339> bowed <06915>, and did obeisance

<07812> unto the king <04428>. And the king <04428> said <0559>,

What <04100> wouldest thou?

17 And she said <0559> unto him, My lord <0113>, thou swarest

<07650> by the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> unto thine handmaid

<0519>, [saying], Assuredly <03588> Solomon <08010> thy son

<01121> shall reign <04427> after <0310> me, and he shall sit

<03427> upon my throne <03678>.

 18 And now <06258>, behold <02009>, Adonijah <0138> reigneth

<04427>; and now, my lord <0113> the king <04428>, thou knowest

<03045> [it] not:

19 And he hath slain <02076> oxen <07794> and fat <04806>

cattle <04806> and sheep <06629> in abundance <07230>, and hath

called <07121> all <03605> the sons <01121> of the king <04428>,

and Abiathar <054> the priest <03548>, and Joab <03097> the

captain <08269> of the host <06635>: but Solomon <08010> thy

servant <05650> hath he not called <07121>.

 20 And thou, my lord <0113>, O king <04428>, the eyes <05869>

of all <03605> Israel <03478> [are] upon thee, that thou

shouldest tell <05046> them who <04310> shall sit <03427> on

<05921> the throne <03678> of my lord <0113> the king <04428>

after <0310> him.

21 Otherwise it shall come <01961> to pass, when my lord <0113>

the king <04428> shall sleep <07901> with his fathers <01>, that

I and my son <01121> Solomon <08010> shall be counted offenders

<02400>.

22 And, lo <02009>, while she yet <05750> talked <01696> with

the king <04428>, Nathan <05416> the prophet <05030> also came

<0935> in.

23 And they told <05046> the king <04428>, saying <0559>,

Behold <02009> Nathan <05416> the prophet <05030>. And when he

was come <0935> in before <06440> the king <04428>, he bowed

<07812> himself before <06440> the king <04428> with his face

<0639> to the ground <0776>.

 24 And Nathan <05416> said <0559>, My lord <0113>, O king

<04428>, hast thou said <0559>, Adonijah <0138> shall reign

<04427> after <0310> me, and he shall sit <03427> upon my throne

<03678>?

25 For he is gone <03381> down <03381> this day <03117>, and

hath slain <02076> oxen <07794> and fat <04806> cattle <04806>

and sheep <06629> in abundance <07230>, and hath called <07121>

all <03605> the king's <04428> sons <01121>, and the captains

<08269> of the host <06635>, and Abiathar <054> the priest

<03548>; and, behold <02009>, they eat <0398> and drink <08354>

before <06440> him, and say <0559>, God save <02421> king

<04428> Adonijah.

26 But me, [even] me thy servant <05650>, and Zadok <06659> the

priest <03548>, and Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada

<03111>, and thy servant <05650> Solomon <08010>, hath he not

called <07121>.

27 Is this <02088> thing <01697> done by my lord <0113> the

king <04428>, and thou hast not shewed <03045> [it] unto thy

servant <05650>, who <04310> should sit <03427> on the throne

<03678> of my lord <0113> the king <04428> after <0310> him?

28 Then king <04428> David <01732> answered <06030> and said

<0559>, Call <07121> me Bathsheba <01339>. And she came <0935>

into the king's <04428> presence <06440>, and stood <05975>

before <06440> the king <04428>.

29 And the king <04428> sware <07650>, and said <0559>, [As]

the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>, that hath redeemed <06299> my

soul <05315> out of all <03605> distress <06869>,

30 Even <03588> as I sware <07650> unto thee by the LORD

<03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, Assuredly

<03588> Solomon <08010> thy son <01121> shall reign <04427>

after <0310> me, and he shall sit <03427> upon my throne <03678>

in my stead <08478>; even <03588> so <03651> will I certainly do

<06213> this <02088> day <03117>.

31 Then Bathsheba <01339> bowed <06915> with [her] face <0639>

to the earth <0776>, and did reverence <07812> to the king

<04428>, and said <0559>, Let my lord <0113> king <04428> David

<01732> live <02421> for ever <05769>.

 32. And king <04428> David <01732> said <0559>, Call <07121> me

Zadok <06659> the priest <03548>, and Nathan <05416> the prophet

<05030>, and Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111>.

And they came <0935> before <06440> the king <04428>.

33 The king <04428> also said <0559> unto them, Take <03947>

with you the servants <05650> of your lord <0113>, and cause

Solomon <08010> my son <01121> to ride <07392> upon mine own

mule <06506>, and bring <03381> him down <03381> to Gihon

<01521>:

34 And let Zadok <06659> the priest <03548> and Nathan <05416>

the prophet <05030> anoint <04886> him there <08033> king

<04428> over <05921> Israel <03478>: and blow <08628> ye with

the trumpet <07782>, and say <0559>, God save <02421> king

<04428> Solomon <08010>.

35 Then ye shall come <05927> up after <0310> him, that he may

come <0935> and sit <03427> upon my throne <03678>; for he shall

be king <04427> in my stead <08478>: and I have appointed

<06680> him to be ruler <05057> over <05921> Israel <03478> and

over <05921> Judah <03063>.

36 And Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111>

answered <06030> the king <04428>, and said <0559>, Amen <0543>:

the LORD <03068> God <0430> of my lord <0113> the king <04428>

say <0559> so <03651> [too].

37 As the LORD <03068> hath been <01961> with my lord <0113>

the king <04428>, even so <03651> be he with Solomon <08010>,

and make his throne <03678> greater than the throne <03678> of

my lord <0113> king <04428> David <01732>.

38 So Zadok <06659> the priest <03548>, and Nathan <05416> the

prophet <05030>, and Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada

<03111>, and the Cherethites <03746>, and the Pelethites <06432>,

went <03381> down <03381>, and caused Solomon <08010> to ride

<07392> upon king <04428> David's <01732> mule <06506>, and

brought <03212> him to Gihon <01521>.

39 And Zadok <06659> the priest <03548> took <03947> an horn

<07161> of oil <08081> out of the tabernacle <0168>, and

anointed <04886> Solomon <08010>. And they blew <08628> the

trumpet <07782>; and all <03605> the people <05971> said <0559>,

God save <02421> king <04428> Solomon <08010>.

40 And all <03605> the people <05971> came <05927> up after

<0310> him, and the people <05971> piped <02490> with pipes

<02485>, and rejoiced <08056> with great <01419> joy <08057>, so

that the earth <0776> rent <01234> with the sound <06963> of

them.

 41. And Adonijah <0138> and all <03605> the guests <07121> that

[were] with him heard <08085> [it] as they had made an end

<03615> of eating <0398>. And when Joab <03097> heard <08085>

the sound <06963> of the trumpet <07782>, he said <0559>,

Wherefore <04069> [is this] noise <06963> of the city <07151>

being in an uproar <01993>?

42 And while he yet <05750> spake <01696>, behold <02009>,

Jonathan <03129> the son <01121> of Abiathar <054> the priest

<03548> came <0935>: and Adonijah <0138> said <0559> unto him,

Come <0935> in; for thou [art] a valiant <02428> man <0376>, and

bringest <01319> good <02896> tidings <01319>.

43 And Jonathan <03129> answered <06030> and said <0559> to

Adonijah <0138>, Verily <061> our lord <0113> king <04427> David

<01732> hath made Solomon <08010> king <04427>.

44 And the king <04428> hath sent <07971> with him Zadok

<06659> the priest <03548>, and Nathan <05416> the prophet

<05030>, and Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111>,

and the Cherethites <03774>, and the Pelethites <06432>, and

they have caused him to ride <07392> upon the king's <04428>

mule <06506>:

45 And Zadok <06659> the priest <03548> and Nathan <05416> the

prophet <05030> have anointed <04886> him king <04428> in Gihon

<01521>: and they are come <05927> up from thence <08033>

rejoicing <08056>, so that the city <07151> rang <01949> again.

This <01931> [is] the noise <06963> that ye have heard <08085>.

 46 And also <01571> Solomon <08010> sitteth <03427> on <05921>

the throne <03678> of the kingdom <04410>.

 47 And moreover <01571> the king's <04428> servants <05650>

came <0935> to bless <01288> our lord <0113> king <04428> David

<01732>, saying <0559>, God <0430> make the name <08034> of

Solomon <08010> better <03190> than thy name <08034>, and make

his throne <03678> greater than thy throne <03678>. And the king

<04428> bowed <07812> himself upon the bed <04904>.

 48 And also <01571> thus <03602> said <0559> the king <04428>,

Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, which <0834> hath given <05414> [one] to sit <03427> on

<05921> my throne <03678> this day <03117>, mine eyes <05869>

even seeing <07200> [it].

49 And all <03605> the guests <07121> that [were] with Adonijah

<0138> were afraid <02729>, and rose <06965> up, and went

<03212> every man <0376> his way <01870>.

 50 And Adonijah <0138> feared <03372> because <06440> of

Solomon <08010>, and arose <06965>, and went <03212>, and caught

<02388> hold <02388> on the horns <07161> of the altar <04196>.

51 And it was told <05046> Solomon <08010>, saying <0559>,

Behold <02009>, Adonijah <0138> feareth <03372> king <04428>

Solomon <08010>: for, lo <02009>, he hath caught <0270> hold

<0270> on the horns <07161> of the altar <04196>, saying <0559>,

Let king <04428> Solomon <08010> swear <07650> unto me to day

that he will not slay <04191> his servant <05650> with the sword

<02719>.

52 And Solomon <08010> said <0559>, If <0518> he will shew

himself a worthy <02428> man <01121>, there shall not an hair

<08185> of him fall <05307> to the earth <0776>: but if <0518>

wickedness <07451> shall be found <04672> in him, he shall die

<04191>.

53 So king <04428> Solomon <08010> sent <07971>, and they

brought <03381> him down <03381> from the altar <04196>. And he

came <07126> and bowed <07812> himself to king <04428> Solomon

<08010>: and Solomon <08010> said <0559> unto him, Go <03212> to

thine house <01004>.

1Kings 2

 1. Now the days <03117> of David <01732> drew nigh <07126> that

he should die <04191>; and he charged <06680> Solomon <08010>

his son <01121>, saying <0559>,

 2 I go <01980> the way <01870> of all <03605> the earth <0776>:

be thou strong <02388> therefore, and shew thyself a man <0376>;

3 And keep <08104> the charge <04931> of the LORD <03068> thy

God <0430>, to walk <03212> in his ways <01870>, to keep <08104>

his statutes <02708>, and his commandments <04687>, and his

judgments <04941>, and his testimonies <05715>, as it is written

<03789> in the law <08451> of Moses <04872>, that thou mayest

prosper <07919> in all <03605> that thou doest <06213>, and

whithersoever thou turnest <06437> thyself:

4 That the LORD <03068> may continue <06965> his word <01697>

which <0834> he spake <01696> concerning <05921> me, saying

<0559>, If <0518> thy children <01121> take heed <08104> to

their way <01870>, to walk <03212> before <06440> me in truth

<0571> with all <03605> their heart <03824> and with all <03605>

their soul <05315>, there shall not fail <03772> thee (said he)

a man <0376> on <05921> the throne <03678> of Israel <03478>.

5 Moreover <01571> thou knowest <03045> also <01571> what Joab

<03097> the son <01121> of Zeruiah <06870> did <06213> to me,

[and] what <0834> he did <06213> to the two <08147> captains

<08269> of the hosts <06635> of Israel <03478>, unto Abner <074>

the son <01121> of Ner <05369>, and unto Amasa <06021> the son

<01121> of Jether <03500>, whom he slew <02026>, and shed

<07760> the blood <01818> of war <04421> in peace <07965>, and

put <05414> the blood <01818> of war <04421> upon his girdle

<02290> that [was] about his loins <04975>, and in his shoes

<05275> that [were] on his feet <07272>.

6 Do <06213> therefore according to thy wisdom <02451>, and let

not his hoar <07872> head go <03381> down <03381> to the grave

<07585> in peace <07965>.

7 But shew <06213> kindness <02617> unto the sons <01121> of

Barzillai <01271> the Gileadite <01569>, and let them be of

those that eat <0398> at thy table <07979>: for so <03651> they

came <0935> to me when I fled <01272> because <06440> of Absalom

<053> thy brother <0251>.

8 And, behold <02009>, [thou hast] with thee Shimei <08096> the

son <01121> of Gera <01617>, a Benjamite <01145> of Bahurim

<0980>, which <01931> cursed <07043> me with a grievous <04834>

curse <07045> in the day <03117> when I went <03212> to Mahanaim

<04266>: but he came <03381> down <03381> to meet <07125> me at

Jordan <03383>, and I sware <07650> to him by the LORD <03068>,

saying <0559>, I will not put thee to death <04191> with the

sword <02719>.

9 Now <06258> therefore hold him not guiltless <05352>: for

thou [art] a wise <02450> man <0376>, and knowest <03045> what

thou oughtest to do <06213> unto him; but his hoar <07872> head

bring <03381> thou down <03381> to the grave <07585> with blood

<01818>.

10 So David <01732> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

was buried <06912> in the city <05892> of David <01732>.

11 And the days <03117> that David <01732> reigned <04427> over

<05921> Israel <03478> [were] forty <0705> years <08141>: seven

<07651> years <08141> reigned <04427> he in Hebron <02275>, and

thirty <07970> and three <07969> years <08141> reigned <04427>

he in Jerusalem <03389>.

 12. Then sat <03427> Solomon <08010> upon the throne <03678> of

David <01732> his father <01>; and his kingdom <04438> was

established <03559> greatly <03966>.

13 And Adonijah <0138> the son <01121> of Haggith <02294> came

<0935> to Bathsheba <01339> the mother <0517> of Solomon <08010>.

And she said <0559>, Comest <0935> thou peaceably <07965>? And

he said <0559>, Peaceably <07965>.

14 He said <0559> moreover, I have somewhat to say <01697> unto

thee. And she said <0559>, Say <01696> on.

15 And he said <0559>, Thou knowest <03045> that the kingdom

<04410> was mine, and [that] all <03605> Israel <03478> set

<07760> their faces <06440> on <05921> me, that I should reign

<04427>: howbeit the kingdom <04410> is turned <05437> about

<05437>, and is become <01961> my brother's <0251>: for it was

his from the LORD <03068>.

 16 And now <06258> I ask <07592> one <0259> petition <07596> of

thee, deny <07725> me not. And she said <0559> unto him, Say

<01696> on.

 17 And he said <0559>, Speak <0559>, I pray <04994> thee, unto

Solomon <08010> the king <04428>, (for he will not say <0559>

thee nay,) that he give <05414> me Abishag <049> the Shunammite

<07767> to wife <0802>.

 18 And Bathsheba <01339> said <0559>, Well <02896>; I will

speak <01696> for thee unto the king <04428>.

 19 Bathsheba <01339> therefore went <0935> unto king <04428>

Solomon <08010>, to speak <01696> unto him for Adonijah <0138>.

And the king <04428> rose <06965> up to meet <07125> her, and

bowed <07812> himself unto her, and sat <03427> down on <05921>

his throne <03678>, and caused a seat <03678> to be set <07760>

for the king's <04428> mother <0517>; and she sat <03427> on his

right <03225> hand.

 20 Then she said <0559>, I desire <07592> one <0259> small

<06996> petition <07596> of thee; [I pray thee], say <0559> me

not nay <06440>. And the king <04428> said <0559> unto her, Ask

<07592> on, my mother <0517>: for I will not say <0559> thee nay.

21 And she said <0559>, Let Abishag <049> the Shunammite

<07767> be given <05414> to Adonijah <0138> thy brother <0251>

to wife <0802>.

22 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> answered <06030> and said

<0559> unto his mother <0517>, And why <04100> dost thou ask

<07592> Abishag <049> the Shunammite <07767> for Adonijah

<0138>? ask <07592> for him the kingdom <04410> also; for he

[is] mine elder <01419> brother <0251>; even for him, and for

Abiathar <054> the priest <03548>, and for Joab <03097> the son

<01121> of Zeruiah <06870>.

23 Then king <04428> Solomon <08010> sware <07650> by the LORD

<03068>, saying <0559>, God <0430> do <06213> so to me, and more

<03254> also <03541>, if <03588> Adonijah <0138> have not spoken

<01696> this <02088> word <01697> against his own life <05315>.

24 Now <06258> therefore, [as] the LORD <03068> liveth <02416>,

which <0834> hath established <03559> me, and set <03427> me on

<05921> the throne <03678> of David <01732> my father <01>, and

who <0834> hath made <06213> me an house <01004>, as he promised

<01696>, Adonijah <0138> shall be put to death <04191> this day

<03117>.

25 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> sent <07971> by the hand

<03027> of Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111>;

and he fell <06293> upon him that he died <04191>.

 26. And unto Abiathar <054> the priest <03548> said <0559> the

king <04428>, Get <03212> thee to Anathoth <06068>, unto thine

own fields <07704>; for thou [art] worthy <0376> of death

<04194>: but I will not at this <02088> time <03117> put thee to

death <04191>, because <03588> thou barest <05375> the ark

<0727> of the Lord <0136> GOD <03069> before <06440> David

<01732> my father <01>, and because <03588> thou hast been

afflicted <06031> in all <03605> wherein <0834> my father <01>

was afflicted <06031>.

27 So Solomon <08010> thrust <01644> out Abiathar <054> from

being <01961> priest <03548> unto the LORD <03068>; that he

might fulfil <04390> the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, which

<0834> he spake <01696> concerning <05921> the house <01004> of

Eli <05941> in Shiloh <07887>.

28 Then tidings <08052> came <0935> to Joab <03097>: for Joab

<03097> had turned <05186> after <0310> Adonijah <0138>, though

he turned <05186> not after <0310> Absalom <053>. And Joab

<03097> fled <05127> unto the tabernacle <0168> of the LORD

<03068>, and caught <02388> hold <02388> on the horns <07161> of

the altar <04196>.

29 And it was told <05046> king <04428> Solomon <08010> that

Joab <03097> was fled <05127> unto the tabernacle <0168> of the

LORD <03068>; and, behold <02009>, [he is] by the altar <04196>.

Then Solomon <08010> sent <07971> Benaiah <01141> the son

<01121> of Jehoiada <03111>, saying <0559>, Go <03212>, fall

<06293> upon him.

30 And Benaiah <01141> came <0935> to the tabernacle <0168> of

the LORD <03068>, and said <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the king <04428>, Come <03318> forth <03318>. And he said

<0559>, Nay <03808>; but I will die <04191> here <06311>. And

Benaiah <01141> brought <07725> the king <04428> word <01697>

again <07725>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> said <01696> Joab

<03097>, and thus <03541> he answered <06030> me.

31 And the king <04428> said <0559> unto him, Do <06213> as he

hath said <01696>, and fall <06293> upon him, and bury <06912>

him; that thou mayest take <05493> away <05493> the innocent

<02600> blood <01818>, which <0834> Joab <03097> shed <08210>,

from me, and from the house <01004> of my father <01>.

32 And the LORD <03068> shall return <07725> his blood <01818>

upon his own head <07218>, who <04310> fell <06293> upon two

<08147> men <0582> more righteous <06662> and better <02896>

than he, and slew <02026> them with the sword <02719>, my father

<01> David <01732> not knowing <03045> [thereof, to wit], Abner

<074> the son <01121> of Ner <05369>, captain <08269> of the

host <06635> of Israel <03478>, and Amasa <06021> the son

<01121> of Jether <03500>, captain <08269> of the host <06635>

of Judah <03063>.

33 Their blood <01818> shall therefore return <07725> upon the

head <07218> of Joab <03097>, and upon the head <07218> of his

seed <02233> for ever <05769>: but upon David <01732>, and upon

his seed <02233>, and upon his house <01004>, and upon his

throne <03678>, shall there be peace <07965> for ever <05769>

from the LORD <03068>.

34 So Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111> went

<05927> up, and fell <06293> upon him, and slew <04191> him: and

he was buried <06912> in his own house <01004> in the wilderness

<04057>.

 35. And the king <04428> put <05414> Benaiah <01141> the son

<01121> of Jehoiada <03111> in his room <08478> over <05921> the

host <06635>: and Zadok <06659> the priest <03548> did the king

<04428> put <05414> in the room <08478> of Abiathar <054>.

36 And the king <04428> sent <07971> and called <07121> for

Shimei <08096>, and said <0559> unto him, Build <01129> thee an

house <01004> in Jerusalem <03389>, and dwell <03427> there

<08033>, and go <03318> not forth <03318> thence <08033> any

whither <0575>.

37 For it shall be, [that] on the day <03117> thou goest

<03318> out, and passest <05674> over <05674> the brook <05158>

Kidron <06939>, thou shalt know <03045> for certain <03045> that

thou shalt surely die <04191>: thy blood <01818> shall be upon

thine own head <07218>.

38 And Shimei <08096> said <0559> unto the king <04428>, The

saying <01697> [is] good <02896>: as my lord <0113> the king

<04428> hath said <01696>, so <03651> will thy servant <05650>

do <06213>. And Shimei <08096> dwelt <03427> in Jerusalem

<03389> many <07227> days <03117>.

39 And it came <01961> to pass at the end <07093> of three

<07969> years <08141>, that two <08147> of the servants <05650>

of Shimei <08096> ran <01272> away unto Achish <0397> son

<01121> of Maachah <04601> king <04428> of Gath <01661>. And

they told <05046> Shimei <08096>, saying <0559>, Behold <02009>,

thy servants <05650> [be] in Gath <01661>.

40 And Shimei <08096> arose <06965>, and saddled <02280> his

ass <02543>, and went <03212> to Gath <01661> to Achish <0397>

to seek <01245> his servants <05650>: and Shimei <08096> went

<03212>, and brought <0935> his servants <05650> from Gath

<01661>.

41 And it was told <05046> Solomon <08010> that Shimei <08096>

had gone <01980> from Jerusalem <03389> to Gath <01661>, and was

come <07725> again <07725>.

42 And the king <04428> sent <07971> and called <07121> for

Shimei <08096>, and said <0559> unto him, Did I not make thee to

swear <07650> by the LORD <03068>, and protested <05749> unto

thee, saying <0559>, Know <03045> for a certain <03045>, on the

day <03117> thou goest <03318> out, and walkest <01980> abroad

any whither <0575>, that thou shalt surely die <04191>? and thou

saidst <0559> unto me, The word <01697> [that] I have heard

<08085> [is] good <02896>.

43 Why <04100> then hast thou not kept <08104> the oath <07621>

of the LORD <03068>, and the commandment <04687> that I have

charged <06680> thee with?

44 The king <04428> said <0559> moreover to Shimei <08096>,

Thou knowest <03045> all <03605> the wickedness <07451> which

<0834> thine heart <03824> is privy <03045> to, that thou didst

<06213> to David <01732> my father <01>: therefore the LORD

<03068> shall return <07725> thy wickedness <07451> upon thine

own head <07218>;

45 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> [shall be] blessed <01288>,

and the throne <03678> of David <01732> shall be established

<03559> before <06440> the LORD <03068> for ever.

46 So the king <04428> commanded <06680> Benaiah <01141> the

son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111>; which went <03318> out, and

fell <06293> upon him, that he died <04191>. And the kingdom

<04467> was established <03559> in the hand <03027> of Solomon

<08010>.

1Kings 3

 1. And Solomon <08010> made affinity <02859> with Pharaoh

<06547> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>, and took <03947>

Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323>, and brought <0935> her into

<0413> the city <05892> of David <01732>, until <05704> he had

made an end <03615> of building <01129> his own house <01004>,

and the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and the wall <02346>

of Jerusalem <03389> round <05439> about.

2 Only <07535> the people <05971> sacrificed <02076> in high

<01116> places, because <03588> there was no <03808> house

<01004> built <01129> unto the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>,

until <05704> those <01992> days <03117>.

3 And Solomon <08010> loved <0157> the LORD <03068>, walking

<03212> in the statutes <02708> of David <01732> his father <01>:

only <07535> he sacrificed <02076> and burnt <06999> incense

<06999> in high <01116> places.

4 And the king <04428> went <03212> to Gibeon <01391> to

sacrifice <02076> there <08033>; for that [was] the great

<01419> high <01116> place: a thousand <0505> burnt <05930>

offerings did Solomon <08010> offer <05927> upon that altar

<04196>.

 5. In Gibeon <01391> the LORD <03068> appeared <07200> to

Solomon <08010> in a dream <02472> by night <03915>: and God

<0430> said <0559>, Ask <07592> what <04100> I shall give

<05414> thee.

6 And Solomon <08010> said <0559>, Thou hast shewed <06213>

unto thy servant <05650> David <01732> my father <01> great

<01419> mercy <02617>, according as he walked <01980> before

<06440> thee in truth <0571>, and in righteousness <06666>, and

in uprightness <03483> of heart <03824> with thee; and thou hast

kept <08104> for him this <02088> great <01419> kindness <02617>,

that thou hast given <05414> him a son <01121> to sit <03427>

on <05921> his throne <03678>, as [it is] this <02088> day

<03117>.

7 And now <06258>, O LORD <03068> my God <0430>, thou hast made

thy servant <05650> king <04427> instead <08478> of David

<01732> my father <01>: and I [am but] a little <06996> child

<05288>: I know <03045> not [how] to go <03318> out or come

<0935> in.

8 And thy servant <05650> [is] in the midst <08432> of thy

people <05971> which <0834> thou hast chosen <0977>, a great

<07227> people <05971>, that cannot <03808> be numbered <04487>

nor counted <05608> for multitude <07230>.

9 Give <05414> therefore thy servant <05650> an understanding

<08085> heart <03820> to judge <08199> thy people <05971>, that

I may discern <0995> between <0996> good <02896> and bad <07451>:

for who <04310> is able <03201> to judge <08199> this <02088>

thy so great <03515> a people <05971>?

10 And the speech <01697> pleased the Lord <0136>, that Solomon

<08010> had asked <07592> this <02088> thing <01697>.

11 And God <0430> said <0559> unto him, Because <03282> thou

hast asked <07592> this <02088> thing <01697>, and hast not

asked <07592> for thyself long <07221> life <03117>; neither

<03808> hast asked <07592> riches <06239> for thyself, nor

<03808> hast asked <07592> the life <05315> of thine enemies

<0341>; but hast asked <07592> for thyself understanding <0995>

to discern <08085> judgment <04941>;

12 Behold <02009>, I have done <06213> according to thy words

<01697>: lo <02009>, I have given <05414> thee a wise <02450>

and an understanding <0995> heart <03820>; so that there was

none <03808> like <03644> thee before <06440> thee, neither

after <0310> thee shall any arise <06965> like <03644> unto thee.

 13 And I have also <01571> given <05414> thee that which <0834>

thou hast not asked <07592>, both <01571> riches <06239>, and

honour <03519>: so that there shall not be any <0376> among the

kings <04428> like <03644> unto thee all <03605> thy days

<03117>.

14 And if <0518> thou wilt walk <03212> in my ways <01870>, to

keep <08104> my statutes <02706> and my commandments <04687>, as

thy father <01> David <01732> did walk <01980>, then I will

lengthen <0748> thy days <03117>.

15 And Solomon <08010> awoke <03364>; and, behold <02009>, [it

was] a dream <02472>. And he came <0935> to Jerusalem <03389>,

and stood <05975> before <06440> the ark <0727> of the covenant

<01285> of the LORD <03068>, and offered <05927> up burnt

<05930> offerings, and offered <06213> peace <08002> offerings,

and made <06213> a feast <04960> to all <03605> his servants

<05650>.

 16. Then <0227> came <0935> there two <08147> women <0802>,

[that were] harlots <02181>, unto the king <04428>, and stood

<05975> before <06440> him.

 17 And the one <0259> woman <0802> said <0559>, O my lord

<0113>, I and this <02063> woman <0802> dwell <03427> in one

<0259> house <01004>; and I was delivered <03205> of a child

<03205> with her in the house <01004>.

18 And it came <01961> to pass the third <07992> day <03117>

after that I was delivered <03205>, that this <02063> woman

<0802> was delivered <03205> also <01571>: and we [were]

together <03162>; [there was] no <0369> stranger <02114> with us

in the house <01004>, save <02108> we two <08147> in the house

<01004>.

 19 And this <02063> woman's <0802> child <01121> died <04191>

in the night <03915>; because <0834> she overlaid <07901> it.

20 And she arose <06965> at midnight, and took <03947> my son

<01121> from beside <0681> me, while thine handmaid <0519> slept

<03463>, and laid <07901> it in her bosom <02436>, and laid

<07901> her dead <04191> child <01121> in my bosom <02436>.

21 And when I rose <06965> in the morning <01242> to give my

child <01121> suck <03243>, behold <02009>, it was dead <04191>:

but when I had considered <0995> it in the morning <01242>,

behold <02009>, it was not my son <01121>, which <0834> I did

bear <03205>.

 22 And the other <0312> woman <0802> said <0559>, Nay <03808>;

but the living <02416> [is] my son <01121>, and the dead <04191>

[is] thy son <01121>. And this <02063> said <0559>, No <03808>;

but the dead <04191> [is] thy son <01121>, and the living

<02416> [is] my son <01121>. Thus they spake <01696> before

<06440> the king <04428>.

23 Then said <0559> the king <04428>, The one <02063> saith

<0559>, This <02063> [is] my son <01121> that liveth <02416>,

and thy son <01121> [is] the dead <04191>: and the other <02063>

saith <0559>, Nay <03808>; but thy son <01121> [is] the dead

<04191>, and my son <01121> [is] the living <02416>.

 24 And the king <04428> said <0559>, Bring <03947> me a sword

<02719>. And they brought <0935> a sword <02719> before <06440>

the king <04428>.

25 And the king <04428> said <0559>, Divide <01504> the living

<02416> child <03206> in two <08147>, and give <05414> half

<02677> to the one <0259>, and half <02677> to the other <0259>.

26 Then spake <0559> the woman <0802> whose <0834> the living

<02416> child <01121> [was] unto the king <04428>, for her

bowels <07358> yearned <03648> upon her son <01121>, and she

said <0559>, O my lord <0113>, give <05414> her the living

<02416> child <03205>, and in no <0408> wise slay <04191> it.

But the other <02063> said <0559>, Let it be neither mine nor

thine, [but] divide <01504> [it].

27 Then the king <04428> answered <06030> and said <0559>, Give

<05414> her the living <02416> child <03205>, and in no <03808>

wise slay <04191> it: she [is] the mother <0517> thereof.

28 And all <03605> Israel <03478> heard <08085> of the judgment

<04941> which <0834> the king <04428> had judged <08199>; and

they feared <03372> the king <04428>: for they saw <07200> that

the wisdom <02451> of God <0430> [was] in him, to do <06213>

judgment <04941>.

1Kings 4

 1. So king <04428> Solomon <08010> was king <04428> over

<05921> all <03605> Israel <03478>.

2 And these <0428> [were] the princes <08269> which <0834> he

had; Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of Zadok <06659> the priest

<03548>,

3 Elihoreph <0456> and Ahiah <0281>, the sons <01121> of Shisha

<07894>, scribes <05608>; Jehoshaphat <03092> the son <01121> of

Ahilud <0286>, the recorder <02142>.

4 And Benaiah <01141> the son <01121> of Jehoiada <03111> [was]

over <05921> the host <06635>: and Zadok <06659> and Abiathar

<054> [were] the priests <03548>:

5 And Azariah <05838> the son <01121> of Nathan <05416> [was]

over <05921> the officers <05324>: and Zabud the son <01121> of

Nathan <05416> [was] principal <03548> officer <05324>, [and]

the king's <04428> friend <07463>:

6 And Ahishar <0301> [was] over <05921> the household <01004>:

and Adoniram <0141> the son <01121> of Abda <05653> [was] over

<05921> the tribute <04522>.

7 And Solomon <08010> had twelve officers <05324> over <05921>

all <03605> Israel <03478>, which provided victuals <03557> for

the king <04428> and his household <01004>: each <0259> man his

month <02320> in a year <08141> made provision <03557>.

8 And these <0428> [are] their names <08034>: The son <01133>

of Hur <02354>, in mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>:

9 The son <01128> of Dekar <01857>, in Makaz <04739>, and in

Shaalbim <08169>, and Bethshemesh <01053>, and Elonbethhanan

<0358>:

10 The son <01136> of Hesed <02618>, in Aruboth <0700>; to him

[pertained] Sochoh <07755>, and all <03605> the land <0776> of

Hepher <02660>:

11 The son <01125> of Abinadab <041>, in all <03605> the region

<05299> of Dor <01756>; which had Taphath <02955> the daughter

<01323> of Solomon <08010> to wife <0802>:

12 Baana <01195> the son <01121> of Ahilud <0286>; [to him

pertained] Taanach <08590> and Megiddo <04023>, and all <03605>

Bethshean <01052>, which [is] by Zartanah beneath <08478>

[even] unto [the place that is] beyond <05676> Jokneam <03362>:

 13 The son <01127> of Geber <01398>, in Ramothgilead <07433>;

to him [pertained] the towns <02333> of Jair <02971> the son

<01121> of Manasseh <04519>, which <0834> [are] in Gilead

<01568>; to him [also pertained] the region <02256> of Argob

<0709>, which <0834> [is] in Bashan <01316>, threescore <08346>

great <01419> cities <05892> with walls <02346> and brasen

<05178> bars <01280>:

14 Ahinadab <0292> the son <01121> of Iddo <05714> [had]

Mahanaim <04266>:

15 Ahimaaz <0290> [was] in Naphtali <05321>; he also <01571>

took <03947> Basmath <01315> the daughter <01323> of Solomon

<08010> to wife <0802>:

16 Baanah <01195> the son <01121> of Hushai <02365> [was] in

Asher <0836> and in Aloth <01175>:

17 Jehoshaphat <03092> the son <01121> of Paruah <06515>, in

Issachar <03485>:

18 Shimei <08096> the son <01121> of Elah <0425>, in Benjamin

<01144>:

19 Geber <01398> the son <01121> of Uri <0221> [was] in the

country <0776> of Gilead <01568>, [in] the country <0776> of

Sihon <05511> king <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, and of Og

<05747> king <04428> of Bashan <01316>; and [he was] the only

<0259> officer <05333> which <0834> [was] in the land <0776>.

 20. Judah <03063> and Israel <03478> [were] many <07227>, as

the sand <02344> which <0834> [is] by the sea <03220> in

multitude <07230>, eating <0398> and drinking <08354>, and

making merry <08056>.

 21 And Solomon <08010> reigned <04910> over all <03605>

kingdoms <04467> from the river <05104> unto the land <0776> of

the Philistines <06430>, and unto the border <01366> of Egypt

<04714>: they brought <05066> presents <04503>, and served

<05647> Solomon <08010> all <03605> the days <03117> of his life

<02416>.

 22 And Solomon's <08010> provision <03899> for one <0259> day

<03117> was thirty <07970> measures <03734> of fine flour

<05560>, and threescore <08346> measures <03734> of meal <07058>,

 23 Ten <06235> fat <01277> oxen <01241>, and twenty <06242>

oxen <01241> out of the pastures <07471>, and an hundred <03967>

sheep <06629>, beside <0905> harts <0354>, and roebucks <06643>,

and fallowdeer <03180>, and fatted <075> fowl <01257>.

24 For he had dominion <07287> over all <03605> [the region] on

this side <05676> the river <05104>, from Tiphsah <08607> even

to Azzah <05804>, over all <03605> the kings <04428> on this

side <05676> the river <05104>: and he had <01961> peace <07965>

on all <03605> sides <05676> round <05439> about him.

25 And Judah <03063> and Israel <03478> dwelt <03427> safely

<0983>, every man <0376> under <08478> his vine <01612> and

under <08478> his fig <08384> tree, from Dan <01835> even to

Beersheba <0884>, all <03605> the days <03117> of Solomon

<08010>.

26 And Solomon <08010> had forty <0705> thousand <0505> stalls

<0723> of horses <05483> for his chariots <04817>, and twelve

thousand <0505> horsemen <06571>.

 27 And those <0428> officers <05324> provided victual <03557>

for king <04428> Solomon <08010>, and for all <03605> that came

<07131> unto king <04428> Solomon's <08010> table <07979>, every

man <0376> in his month <02320>: they lacked <05737> nothing.

28 Barley <08184> also and straw <08401> for the horses <05483>

and dromedaries <07409> brought <0935> they unto the place

<04725> where [the officers] were, every man <0376> according to

his charge <04941>.

 29. And God <0430> gave <05414> Solomon <08010> wisdom <02451>

and understanding <08394> exceeding <03966> much <07235>, and

largeness <07341> of heart <03820>, even as the sand <02344>

that [is] on <05921> the sea <03220> shore <08193>.

 30 And Solomon's <08010> wisdom <02451> excelled <07227> the

wisdom <02451> of all <03605> the children <01121> of the east

<06924> country, and all <03605> the wisdom <02451> of Egypt

<04714>.

31 For he was wiser <02449> than all <03605> men <0120>; than

Ethan <0387> the Ezrahite <0250>, and Heman <01968>, and Chalcol

<03633>, and Darda <01862>, the sons <01121> of Mahol <04235>:

and his fame <08034> was in all <03605> nations <01471> round

<05439> about.

32 And he spake <01696> three <07969> thousand <0505> proverbs

<04912>: and his songs <07892> were a thousand <0505> and five

<02568>.

33 And he spake <01696> of trees <06086>, from the cedar <0730>

tree <06086> that [is] in Lebanon <03844> even unto the hyssop

<0231> that springeth <03318> out of the wall <07023>: he spake

<01696> also of beasts <0929>, and of fowl <05775>, and of

creeping <07431> things, and of fishes <01709>.

34 And there came <0935> of all <03605> people <05971> to hear

<08085> the wisdom <02451> of Solomon <08010>, from all <03605>

kings <04428> of the earth <0776>, which <0834> had heard

<08085> of his wisdom <02451>.

1Kings 5

 1. And Hiram <02438> king <04428> of Tyre <06865> sent <07971>

his servants <05650> unto Solomon <08010>; for he had <01961>

heard <08085> that they had <01961> anointed <04886> him king

<04428> in the room <08478> of his father <01>: for Hiram

<02438> was ever a lover <0157> of David <01732>.

2 And Solomon <08010> sent <07971> to Hiram <02438>, saying

<0559>,

3 Thou knowest <03045> how that David <01732> my father <01>

could <03201> not build <01129> an house <01004> unto the name

<08034> of the LORD <03068> his God <0430> for the wars <04421>

which <0834> were about <05437> him on every <05437> side, until

<05704> the LORD <03068> put <05414> them under <08478> the

soles <03709> of his feet <07272>.

4 But now <06258> the LORD <03068> my God <0430> hath given me

rest <05117> on every <05437> side <05439>, [so that there is]

neither <0369> adversary <07854> nor <0369> evil <07451>

occurrent <06294>.

 5 And, behold <02005>, I purpose <0559> to build <01129> an

house <01004> unto the name <08034> of the LORD <03068> my God

<0430>, as the LORD <03068> spake <01696> unto David <01732> my

father <01>, saying <0559>, Thy son <01121>, whom <0834> I will

set <05414> upon thy throne <03678> in thy room <08478>, he

shall build <01129> an house <01004> unto my name <08034>.

6 Now <06258> therefore command <06680> thou that they hew

<03772> me cedar <0730> trees out of Lebanon <03844>; and my

servants <05650> shall be with thy servants <05650>: and unto

thee will I give <05414> hire <07939> for thy servants <05650>

according to all <03605> that thou shalt appoint <0559>: for

thou knowest <03045> that [there is] not among us any <0376>

that can skill <03045> to hew <03772> timber <06086> like unto

the Sidonians <06722>.

7 And it came <01961> to pass, when Hiram <02438> heard <08085>

the words <01697> of Solomon <08010>, that he rejoiced <08055>

greatly <03966>, and said <0559>, Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD

<03068> this day <03117>, which <0834> hath given <05414> unto

David <01732> a wise <02450> son <01121> over <05921> this

<02088> great <07227> people <05971>.

8 And Hiram <02438> sent <07971> to Solomon <08010>, saying

<0559>, I have considered <08085> the things which <0834> thou

sentest <07971> to me for: [and] I will do <06213> all <03605>

thy desire <02656> concerning timber <06086> of cedar <0730>,

and concerning timber <06086> of fir <01265>.

9 My servants <05650> shall bring <03381> [them] down <03381>

from Lebanon <03844> unto the sea <03220>: and I will convey

<07760> them by sea <03220> in floats <01702> unto the place

<04725> that thou shalt appoint <07971> me, and will cause them

to be discharged <05310> there <08033>, and thou shalt receive

<05375> [them]: and thou shalt accomplish <06213> my desire

<02656>, in giving <05414> food <03899> for my household <01004>.

 10. So Hiram <02438> gave <05414> Solomon <08010> cedar <0730>

trees <06086> and fir <01265> trees <06086> [according to] all

<03605> his desire <02656>.

 11 And Solomon <08010> gave <05414> Hiram <02438> twenty

<06242> thousand <0505> measures <03734> of wheat <02406> [for]

food <04361> to his household <01004>, and twenty <06242>

measures <03734> of pure <03795> oil <08081>: thus <03541> gave

<05414> Solomon <08010> to Hiram <02438> year <08141> by year

<08141>.

12 And the LORD <03068> gave <05414> Solomon <08010> wisdom

<02451>, as he promised <01696> him: and there was peace <07965>

between <0996> Hiram <02438> and Solomon <08010>; and they two

<08147> made <03772> a league <01285> together.

 13 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> raised <05927> a levy

<04522> out of all <03605> Israel <03478>; and the levy <04522>

was thirty <07970> thousand <0505> men <0376>.

14 And he sent <07971> them to Lebanon <03844>, ten <06235>

thousand <0505> a month <02320> by courses <02487>: a month

<02320> they were in Lebanon <03844>, [and] two <08147> months

<02320> at home <01004>: and Adoniram <0141> [was] over <05921>

the levy <04522>.

15 And Solomon <08010> had <01961> threescore <07657> and ten

thousand <0505> that bare <05375> burdens <05449>, and fourscore

<08084> thousand <0505> hewers <02672> in the mountains <02022>;

 16 Beside <0905> the chief <08269> of Solomon's <08010>

officers <05324> which <0834> [were] over <05921> the work

<04399>, three <07969> thousand <0505> and three <07969> hundred

<03967>, which ruled <07287> over the people <05971> that

wrought <06213> in the work <04399>.

17 And the king <04428> commanded <06680>, and they brought

<05265> great <01419> stones <068>, costly <03368> stones <068>,

[and] hewed <01496> stones <068>, to lay the foundation <03245>

of the house <01004>.

 18 And Solomon's <08010> builders <01129> and Hiram's <02438>

builders <01129> did hew <06458> [them], and the stonesquarers

<01382>: so they prepared <03559> timber <06086> and stones

<068> to build <01129> the house <01004>.

1Kings 6

 1. And it came <01961> to pass in the four <0702> hundred

<03967> and eightieth <08084> year <08141> after the children

<01121> of Israel <03478> were come <03318> out of the land

<0776> of Egypt <04714>, in the fourth <07243> year <08141> of

Solomon's <08010> reign <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478>, in

the month <02320> Zif <02099>, which <01931> [is] the second

<08145> month <02320>, that he began to build <01129> the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>.

2 And the house <01004> which <0834> king <04428> Solomon

<08010> built <01129> for the LORD <03068>, the length <0753>

thereof [was] threescore <08346> cubits <0520>, and the breadth

<07341> thereof twenty <06242> [cubits], and the height <06967>

thereof thirty <07970> cubits <0520>.

3 And the porch <0197> before the temple <01964> of the house

<01004>, twenty <06242> cubits <0520> [was] the length <0753>

thereof, according to the breadth <07341> of the house <01004>;

[and] ten <06235> cubits <0520> [was] the breadth <07341>

thereof before the house <01004>.

4 And for the house <01004> he made <06213> windows <02474> of

narrow <0331> lights <08261>.

5 And against <05921> the wall <07023> of the house <01004> he

built <01129> chambers <03326> round <05439> about, [against]

the walls <07023> of the house <01004> round <05439> about,

[both] of the temple <01964> and of the oracle <01687>: and he

made <06213> chambers <06763> round <05439> about:

 6 The nethermost <08481> chamber <03326> [was] five <02568>

cubits <0520> broad <07341>, and the middle <08484> [was] six

<08337> cubits <0520> broad <07341>, and the third <07992> [was]

seven <07651> cubits <0520> broad <07341>: for without <02351>

[in the wall] of the house <01004> he made <05414> narrowed

<04052> rests round <05439> about, that [the beams] should not

be fastened <0270> in the walls <07023> of the house <01004>.

7 And the house <01004>, when it was in building <01129>, was

built <01129> of stone <068> made ready <08003> before <04551>

it was brought <04551> thither: so that there was neither

<03808> hammer <04717> nor axe <01631> [nor] any <03605> tool

<03627> of iron <01270> heard <08085> in the house <01004>,

while it was in building <01129>.

8 The door <06907> for the middle <08484> chamber <06763> [was]

in the right <03233> side <03802> of the house <01004>: and they

went <05927> up with winding <03583> stairs <03883> into <05921>

the middle <08484> [chamber], and out of the middle <08484> into

<0413> the third <07992>.

9 So he built <01129> the house <01004>, and finished <03615>

it; and covered <05603> the house <01004> with beams <01356> and

boards <07713> of cedar <0730>.

10 And [then] he built <01129> chambers <03326> against <05921>

all <03605> the house <01004>, five <02568> cubits <0520> high

<06967>: and they rested <0270> on the house <01004> [with]

timber <06086> of cedar <0730>.

 11. And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to

Solomon <08010>, saying <0559>,

 12 [Concerning] this <02088> house <01004> which <0834> thou

art in building <01129>, if <0518> thou wilt walk <03212> in my

statutes <02708>, and execute <06213> my judgments <04941>, and

keep <08104> all <03605> my commandments <04687> to walk <03212>

in them; then will I perform <06965> my word <01697> with thee,

which <0834> I spake <01696> unto David <01732> thy father <01>:

 13 And I will dwell <07931> among <08432> the children <01121>

of Israel <03478>, and will not forsake <05800> my people

<05971> Israel <03478>.

14 So Solomon <08010> built <01129> the house <01004>, and

finished <03615> it.

 15. And he built <01129> the walls <07023> of the house <01004>

within <01004> with boards <06763> of cedar <0730>, both the

floor <07172> of the house <01004>, and the walls <07023> of the

cieling <05604>: [and] he covered <06823> [them] on the inside

<01004> with wood <06086>, and covered <06823> the floor <07172>

of the house <01004> with planks <06763> of fir <01265>.

16 And he built <01129> twenty <06242> cubits <0520> on the

sides <03411> of the house <01004>, both the floor <07172> and

the walls <07023> with boards <06763> of cedar <0730>: he even

built <01129> [them] for it within <01004>, [even] for the

oracle <01687>, [even] for the most <06944> holy <06944> [place].

17 And the house <01004>, that [is], the temple <01964> before

<03942> it, was forty <0705> cubits <0520> [long].

18 And the cedar <0730> of the house <01004> within <06441>

[was] carved <04734> with knops <06497> and open <06358> flowers

<06731>: all <03605> [was] cedar <0730>; there was no <0369>

stone <068> seen <07200>.

19 And the oracle <01687> he prepared <03559> in the house

<01004> within <06441>, to set <05414> there <08033> the ark

<0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068>.

20 And the oracle <01687> in the forepart <06440> [was] twenty

<06242> cubits <0520> in length <0753>, and twenty <06242>

cubits <0520> in breadth <07341>, and twenty <06242> cubits

<0520> in the height <06967> thereof: and he overlaid <06823> it

with pure <05462> gold <02091>; and [so] covered <06823> the

altar <04196> [which was of] cedar <0730>.

21 So Solomon <08010> overlaid <06823> the house <01004> within

<06441> with pure <05462> gold <02091>: and he made a partition

<05674> by the chains <07569> of gold <02091> before <06440> the

oracle <01687>; and he overlaid <06823> it with gold <02091>.

22 And the whole <03605> house <01004> he overlaid <06823> with

gold <02091>, until <05704> he had <01961> finished <08552> all

<03605> the house <01004>: also the whole <03605> altar <04196>

that [was] by the oracle <01687> he overlaid <06823> with gold

<02091>.

23 And within the oracle <01687> he made <06213> two <08147>

cherubims <03742> [of] olive <08081> tree <06086>, [each] ten

<06235> cubits <0520> high <06967>.

24 And five <02568> cubits <0520> [was] the one <0259> wing

<03671> of the cherub <03742>, and five <02568> cubits <0520>

the other <08145> wing <03671> of the cherub <03742>: from the

uttermost <07098> part of the one wing <03671> unto the

uttermost <07098> part of the other <03671> [were] ten <06235>

cubits <0520>.

25 And the other <08145> cherub <03742> [was] ten <06235>

cubits <0520>: both <08147> the cherubims <03742> [were] of one

<0259> measure <04060> and one <0259> size <07095>.

26 The height <06967> of the one <0259> cherub <03742> [was]

ten <06235> cubits <0520>, and so <03651> [was it] of the other

<08145> cherub <03742>.

27 And he set <05414> the cherubims <03742> within <08432> the

inner <06442> house <01004>: and they stretched <06566> forth

the wings <03671> of the cherubims <03742>, so that the wing

<03671> of the one <0259> touched <05060> the [one] wall <07023>,

and the wing <03671> of the other <08145> cherub <03742>

touched <05060> the other <08145> wall <07023>; and their wings

<03671> touched <05060> one <03671> another <03671> in the midst

<08432> of the house <01004>.

28 And he overlaid <06823> the cherubims <03742> with gold

<02091>.

29 And he carved <07049> all <03605> the walls <07023> of the

house <01004> round <04524> about <04524> with carved <06603>

figures <04734> of cherubims <03742> and palm <08561> trees and

open <06358> flowers <06731>, within <06441> and without <02435>.

30 And the floor <07172> of the house <01004> he overlaid

<06823> with gold <02091>, within <06441> and without <02435>.

31 And for the entering <06607> of the oracle <01687> he made

<06213> doors <01817> [of] olive <08081> tree <06086>: the

lintel <0352> [and] side posts <04201> [were] a fifth <02549>

part [of the wall].

32 The two <08147> doors <01817> also [were of] olive <08081>

tree <06086>; and he carved <07049> upon them carvings <04734>

of cherubims <03742> and palm <08561> trees and open <06358>

flowers <06731>, and overlaid <06823> [them] with gold <02091>,

and spread <07286> gold <02091> upon the cherubims <03742>, and

upon the palm <08561> trees.

33 So <03651> also made <06213> he for the door <06907> of the

temple <01964> posts <04201> [of] olive <08081> tree <06086>, a

fourth <07243> part [of the wall].

34 And the two <08147> doors <01817> [were of] fir <01265> tree

<06086>: the two <08147> leaves <06763> of the one <0259> door

<01817> [were] folding <01550>, and the two <08147> leaves

<07050> of the other <08145> door <01817> [were] folding <01550>.

35 And he carved <07049> [thereon] cherubims <03742> and palm

<08561> trees and open <06358> flowers <06731>: and covered

<06823> [them] with gold <02091> fitted <03474> upon the carved

<02707> work.

36 And he built <01129> the inner <06442> court <02691> with

three <07969> rows <02905> of hewed <01496> stone <01496>, and a

row <02905> of cedar <0730> beams <03773>.

37 In the fourth <07243> year <08141> was the foundation

<03245> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068> laid, in the

month <03391> Zif <02099>:

38 And in the eleventh year <08141>, in the month <03391> Bul

<0945>, which <01931> [is] the eighth <08066> month <02320>, was

the house <01004> finished <03615> throughout all <03605> the

parts <01697> thereof, and according <05921> to all <03605> the

fashion <04941> of it. So was he seven <07651> years <08141> in

building <01129> it.

1Kings 7

 1. But Solomon <08010> was building <01129> his own house

<01004> thirteen years <08141>, and he finished <03615> all

<03605> his house <01004>.

2 He built <01129> also the house <01004> of the forest <03293>

of Lebanon <03844>; the length <0753> thereof [was] an hundred

<03967> cubits <0520>, and the breadth <07341> thereof fifty

<02572> cubits <0520>, and the height <06967> thereof thirty

<07970> cubits <0520>, upon four <0702> rows <02905> of cedar

<0730> pillars <05982>, with cedar <0730> beams <03773> upon the

pillars <05982>.

3 And [it was] covered <05603> with cedar <0730> above <04605>

upon the beams <06763>, that [lay] on forty <0705> five <02568>

pillars <05982>, fifteen <06240> [in] a row <02905>.

4 And [there were] windows <08261> [in] three <07969> rows

<02905>, and light <04237> [was] against <0413> light <04237>

[in] three <07969> ranks <06471>.

5 And all <03605> the doors <06607> and posts <04201> [were]

square <07251>, with the windows <08260>: and light <04237>

[was] against light <0216> [in] three <07969> ranks <06471>.

 6 And he made <06213> a porch <0197> of pillars <05982>; the

length <0753> thereof [was] fifty <02572> cubits <0520>, and the

breadth <07341> thereof thirty <07970> cubits <0520>: and the

porch <0197> [was] before them: and the [other] pillars <05982>

and the thick beam <05646> [were] before them.

 7 Then he made <06213> a porch <0197> for the throne <03678>

where he might judge <08199>, [even] the porch <0197> of

judgment <04941>: and [it was] covered <05603> with cedar <0730>

from one side of the floor <07172> to the other.

8 And his house <01004> where he dwelt <03427> [had] another

<0312> court <02691> within <01004> the porch <0197>, [which]

was of the like work <04649>. Solomon <08010> made <06213> also

an house <01004> for Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323>, whom

<0834> he had <01961> taken <03947> [to wife], like unto this

<02088> porch <0197>.

9 All <03605> these <0428> [were of] costly <03368> stones

<068>, according to the measures <04060> of hewed <01496> stones

<01496>, sawed <01641> with saws <04050>, within <01004> and

without <02351>, even from the foundation <04527> unto the

coping <02947>, and [so] on <05704> the outside <02351> toward

<05704> the great <01419> court <02691>.

10 And the foundation <03245> [was of] costly <03368> stones

<068>, even great <01419> stones <068>, stones <068> of ten

<06235> cubits <0520>, and stones <068> of eight <08083> cubits

<0520>.

11 And above <04605> [were] costly <03368> stones <068>, after

the measures <04060> of hewed <01496> stones <01496>, and cedars

<0730>.

12 And the great <01419> court <02691> round <05439> about

[was] with three <07969> rows <02905> of hewed <01496> stones

<01496>, and a row <02905> of cedar <0730> beams <03773>, both

for the inner <06442> court <02691> of the house <01004> of the

LORD <03068>, and for the porch <0197> of the house <01004>.

 13. And king <04428> Solomon <08010> sent <07971> and fetched

<03947> Hiram <02438> out of Tyre <06865>.

 14 He [was] a widow's <0490> son <01121> of the tribe <04294>

of Naphtali <05321>, and his father <01> [was] a man <0376> of

Tyre <06876>, a worker <02790> in brass <05178>: and he was

filled <04390> with wisdom <02451>, and understanding <08394>,

and cunning <01847> to work <06213> all <03605> works <04399> in

brass <05178>. And he came <0935> to king <04428> Solomon

<08010>, and wrought <06213> all <03605> his work <04399>.

15 For he cast <06696> two <08147> pillars <05982> of brass

<05178>, of eighteen cubits <0520> high <06967> apiece <0259>:

and a line <02339> of twelve cubits <0520> did compass <05437>

either <08145> of them about <05437>.

16 And he made <06213> two <08147> chapiters <03805> [of]

molten <03332> brass <05178>, to set <05414> upon the tops

<07218> of the pillars <05982>: the height <06967> of the one

<0259> chapiter <03805> [was] five <02568> cubits <0520>, and

the height <06967> of the other <08145> chapiter <03805> [was]

five <02568> cubits <0520>:

17 [And] nets <07638> of checker <07639> work <04639>, and

wreaths <01434> of chain <08333> work <04639>, for the chapiters

<03805> which <0834> [were] upon the top <07218> of the pillars

<05982>; seven <07651> for the one <0259> chapiter <03805>, and

seven <07651> for the other <08145> chapiter <03805>.

18 And he made <06213> the pillars <05982>, and two <08147>

rows <02905> round <05439> about upon the one <0259> network

<07639>, to cover <03680> the chapiters <03805> that [were] upon

the top <07218>, with pomegranates <07416>: and so <03651> did

<06213> he for the other <08145> chapiter <03805>.

19 And the chapiters <03805> that [were] upon the top <07218>

of the pillars <05982> [were] of lily <07799> work <04639> in

the porch <0197>, four <0702> cubits <0520>.

20 And the chapiters <03805> upon the two <08147> pillars

<05982> [had pomegranates] also <01571> above <04605>, over

<05980> against <05980> the belly <0990> which <0834> [was] by

the network <07639>: and the pomegranates <07416> [were] two

hundred <03967> in rows <02905> round <05439> about upon the

other <08145> chapiter <03805>.

21 And he set <06965> up the pillars <05982> in the porch

<0197> of the temple <01964>: and he set <06965> up the right

<03225> pillar <05982>, and called <07121> the name <08034>

thereof Jachin <03199>: and he set <06965> up the left <08042>

pillar <05982>, and called <07121> the name <08034> thereof Boaz

<01162>.

22 And upon the top <07218> of the pillars <05982> [was] lily

<07799> work <04639>: so was the work <04399> of the pillars

<05982> finished <08552>.

 23 And he made <06213> a molten <03332> sea <03220>, ten

<06235> cubits <0520> from the one brim <08193> to the other:

[it was] round <05696> all about, and his height <06967> [was]

five <02568> cubits <0520>: and a line <06957> of thirty <07970>

cubits <0520> did compass <05437> it round <05439> about.

24 And under <08478> the brim <08193> of it round <05439> about

[there were] knops <06497> compassing <05437> it, ten <06235> in

a cubit <0520>, compassing <05362> the sea <03220> round <05439>

about: the knops <06497> [were] cast <03333> in two <08147> rows

<02905>, when it was cast <03333>.

25 It stood <05975> upon twelve oxen <01241>, three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the north <06828>, and three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the west <03220>, and three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the south <05045>, and three <07969>

looking <06437> toward the east <04217>: and the sea <03220>

[was set] above <04605> upon them, and all <03605> their hinder

<0268> parts [were] inward <01004>.

26 And it [was] an hand <02947> breadth <02947> thick <05672>,

and the brim <08193> thereof was wrought <04639> like the brim

<08193> of a cup <03563>, with flowers <06525> of lilies <07799>:

it contained <03557> two thousand <0505> baths <01324>.

27 And he made <06213> ten <06235> bases <04350> of brass

<05178>; four <0702> cubits <0520> [was] the length <0753> of

one <0259> base <04350>, and four <0702> cubits <0520> the

breadth <07341> thereof, and three <07969> cubits <0520> the

height <06967> of it.

28 And the work <04639> of the bases <04350> [was] on this

<02088> [manner]: they had borders <04526>, and the borders

<04526> [were] between <0996> the ledges <07948>:

29 And on <05921> the borders <04526> that [were] between

<0996> the ledges <07948> [were] lions <0738>, oxen <01241>, and

cherubims <03742>: and upon the ledges <07948> [there was] a

base <03653> above <04605>: and beneath <08478> the lions <0738>

and oxen <01241> [were] certain additions <03914> made <06213>

of thin <04174> work <04639>.

 30 And every <0259> base <04350> had four <0702> brasen <05178>

wheels <0212>, and plates <05633> of brass <05178>: and the four

<0702> corners <06471> thereof had undersetters <03802>: under

<08478> the laver <03595> [were] undersetters <03802> molten

<03332>, at the side <05676> of every <0376> addition <03914>.

31 And the mouth <06310> of it within <01004> the chapiter

<03805> and above <04605> [was] a cubit <0520>: but the mouth

<06310> thereof [was] round <05696> [after] the work <04639> of

the base <03653>, a cubit <0520> and an half <02677>: and also

<01571> upon the mouth <06310> of it [were] gravings with their

borders <04526>, foursquare <07251>, not round <05696>.

32 And under <08478> the borders <04526> [were] four <0702>

wheels <0212>; and the axletrees <03027> of the wheels <0212>

[were joined] to the base <04350>: and the height <06967> of a

wheel <0212> [was] a cubit <0520> and half <02677> a cubit

<0520>.

33 And the work <04639> of the wheels <0212> [was] like the

work <04639> of a chariot <04818> wheel <0212>: their axletrees

<03027>, and their naves <01354>, and their felloes <02839>, and

their spokes <02840>, [were] all <03605> molten <03332>.

34 And [there were] four <0702> undersetters <03802> to the

four <0702> corners <06438> of one <0259> base <04350>: [and]

the undersetters <03802> [were] of the very base <04350> itself.

35 And in the top <07218> of the base <04350> [was there] a

round <05696> compass <05439> of half <02677> a cubit <0520>

high <06967>: and on <05921> the top <07218> of the base <04350>

the ledges <03027> thereof and the borders <04526> thereof

[were] of the same.

36 For on <05921> the plates <03871> of the ledges <03027>

thereof, and on <05921> the borders <04526> thereof, he graved

<06605> cherubims <03742>, lions <0738>, and palm <08561> trees,

according to the proportion <04626> of every <0376> one <0376>,

and additions <03914> round <05439> about.

37 After this <02063> [manner] he made <06213> the ten <06235>

bases <04350>: all <03605> of them had one <0259> casting

<04165>, one <0259> measure <04060>, [and] one <0259> size

<07095>.

38 Then made <06213> he ten <06235> lavers <03595> of brass

<05178>: one <0259> laver <03595> contained <03557> forty <0705>

baths <01324>: [and] every <0259> laver <03595> was four <0702>

cubits <0520>: [and] upon every one <0259> of the ten <06235>

bases <04350> one <0259> laver <03595>.

 39 And he put <05414> five <02568> bases <04350> on <05921> the

right <03225> side <03802> of the house <01004>, and five

<02568> on <05921> the left <08040> side <03802> of the house

<01004>: and he set <05414> the sea <03220> on the right <03233>

side <03802> of the house <01004> eastward <06924> over <04136>

against <04136> the south <05045>.

40 And Hiram <02438> made <06213> the lavers <03595>, and the

shovels <03257>, and the basons <04219>. So Hiram <02438> made

<06213> an end <03615> of doing <06213> all <03605> the work

<04399> that he made <06213> king <04428> Solomon <08010> for

the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>:

41 The two <08147> pillars <05982>, and the [two <08147>] bowls

<01543> of the chapiters <03805> that [were] on <05921> the top

<07218> of the two <08147> pillars <05982>; and the two <08147>

networks <07639>, to cover <03680> the two <08147> bowls <01543>

of the chapiters <03805> which <0834> [were] upon the top

<07218> of the pillars <05982>;

42 And four <0702> hundred <03967> pomegranates <07416> for the

two <08147> networks <07639>, [even] two <08147> rows <02905> of

pomegranates <07416> for one <0259> network <07639>, to cover

<03680> the two <08147> bowls <01543> of the chapiters <03805>

that [were] upon the pillars <05982>;

43 And the ten <06235> bases <04350>, and ten <06235> lavers

<03595> on <05921> the bases <04350>;

44 And one <0259> sea <03220>, and twelve oxen <01241> under

<08478> the sea <03220>;

45 And the pots <05518>, and the shovels <03257>, and the

basons <04219>: and all <03605> these <0428> vessels <03627>,

which <0834> Hiram <02438> made <06213> to king <04428> Solomon

<08010> for the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, [were of]

bright <04803> brass <05178>.

46 In the plain <03603> of Jordan <03383> did the king <04428>

cast <03332> them, in the clay <04568> ground <0127> between

<0996> Succoth <05523> and Zarthan.

47 And Solomon <08010> left <03240> all <03605> the vessels

<03627> [unweighed], because they were exceeding <03966> many

<07230>: neither <03808> was the weight <04948> of the brass

<05178> found <02713> out.

 48. And Solomon <08010> made <06213> all <03605> the vessels

<03627> that [pertained] unto the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>: the altar <04196> of gold <02091>, and the table

<07979> of gold <02091>, whereupon the shewbread [was],

49 And the candlesticks <04501> of pure <05462> gold <02091>,

five <02568> on the right <03225> [side], and five <02568> on

the left <08040>, before <06440> the oracle <01687>, with the

flowers <06525>, and the lamps <05216>, and the tongs <04457>

[of] gold <02091>,

50 And the bowls <05592>, and the snuffers <04212>, and the

basons <04219>, and the spoons <03709>, and the censers <04289>

[of] pure <05462> gold <02091>; and the hinges <06596> [of] gold

<02091>, [both] for the doors <01817> of the inner <06442> house

<01004>, the most <06944> holy <06944> [place, and] for the

doors <01817> of the house <01004>, [to wit], of the temple

<01964>.

51 So was ended <07999> all <03605> the work <04399> that king

<04428> Solomon <08010> made <06213> for the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>. And Solomon <08010> brought <0935> in the

things which David <01732> his father <01> had dedicated <06944>;

[even <0853>] the silver <03701>, and the gold <02091>, and the

vessels <03627>, did he put <05414> among the treasures <0214>

of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

1Kings 8

 1. Then <0227> Solomon <08010> assembled <06950> the elders

<02205> of Israel <03478>, and all <03605> the heads <07218> of

the tribes <04294>, the chief <05387> of the fathers <01> of the

children <01121> of Israel <03478>, unto king <04428> Solomon

<08010> in Jerusalem <03389>, that they might bring <05927> up

the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> out

of the city <05892> of David <01732>, which <01958> [is] Zion

<06726>.

2 And all <03605> the men <0376> of Israel <03478> assembled

<06950> themselves unto king <04428> Solomon <08010> at the

feast <02282> in the month <03391> Ethanim <0388>, which <01931>

[is] the seventh <07637> month <02320>.

3 And all <03605> the elders <02205> of Israel <03478> came

<0935>, and the priests <03548> took <05375> up the ark <0727>.

4 And they brought <05927> up the ark <0727> of the LORD

<03068>, and the tabernacle <0168> of the congregation <04150>,

and all <03605> the holy <06944> vessels <03627> that [were] in

the tabernacle <0168>, even those did the priests <03548> and

the Levites <03881> bring <05927> up.

5 And king <04428> Solomon <08010>, and all <03605> the

congregation <05712> of Israel <03478>, that were assembled

<03259> unto him, [were] with him before <06440> the ark <0727>,

sacrificing <02076> sheep <06629> and oxen <01241>, that could

not be told <05608> nor <03808> numbered <04487> for multitude

<07230>.

6 And the priests <03548> brought <0935> in the ark <0727> of

the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> unto his place <04725>,

into <0413> the oracle <01687> of the house <01004>, to the most

<06944> holy <06944> [place, even] under the wings <03671> of

the cherubims <03742>.

7 For the cherubims <03742> spread <06566> forth [their] two

wings <03671> over <0413> the place <04725> of the ark <0727>,

and the cherubims <03742> covered <05526> the ark <0727> and the

staves <0905> thereof above <04605>.

8 And they drew <0748> out the staves <0905>, that the ends

<07218> of the staves <0905> were seen <07200> out in the holy

<06944> [place] before the oracle <01687>, and they were not

seen <07200> without <02351>: and there <08033> they are unto

this <02088> day <03117>.

9 [There was] nothing <0369> in the ark <0727> save <07535> the

two <08147> tables <03871> of stone <068>, which <0834> Moses

<04872> put <03240> there <08033> at Horeb <02722>, when <0834>

the LORD <03068> made <03772> [a covenant] with the children

<01121> of Israel <03478>, when they came <03318> out of the

land <0776> of Egypt <04714>.

10 And it came <01961> to pass, when the priests <03548> were

come <03318> out of the holy <06944> [place], that the cloud

<06051> filled <04390> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

11 So that the priests <03548> could <03201> not stand <05975>

to minister <08334> because <06440> of the cloud <06051>: for

the glory <03519> of the LORD <03068> had filled <04390> the

house <01004> of the LORD <03068>.

 12. Then <0227> spake <0559> Solomon <08010>, The LORD <03068>

said <0559> that he would dwell <07931> in the thick darkness

<06205>.

 13 I have surely <0403> built <01129> thee an house <01004> to

dwell <02073> in, a settled <04349> place for thee to abide

<03427> in for ever <05769>.

14 And the king <04428> turned <05437> his face <06440> about,

and blessed <01288> all <03605> the congregation <06951> of

Israel <03478>: (and all <03605> the congregation <06951> of

Israel <03478> stood <05975>;)

15 And he said <0559>, Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD <03068>

God <0430> of Israel <03478>, which <0834> spake <01696> with

his mouth <06310> unto David <01732> my father <01>, and hath

with his hand <03027> fulfilled <04390> [it], saying <0559>,

 16 Since <04480> the day <03117> that I brought <03318> forth

<03318> my people <05971> Israel <03478> out of Egypt <04714>, I

chose <0977> no <03808> city <05892> out of all <03605> the

tribes <07626> of Israel <03478> to build <01129> an house

<01004>, that my name <08034> might be therein <08033>; but I

chose <0977> David <01732> to be over <05921> my people <05971>

Israel <03478>.

17 And it was in the heart <03824> of David <01732> my father

<01> to build <01129> an house <01004> for the name <08034> of

the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

18 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto David <01732> my

father <01>, Whereas it was in thine heart <03824> to build

<01129> an house <01004> unto my name <08034>, thou didst well

<03190> that it was in thine heart <03824>.

19 Nevertheless <07535> thou shalt not build <01129> the house

<01004>; but thy son <01121> that shall come <03318> forth

<03318> out of thy loins <02504>, he shall build <01129> the

house <01004> unto my name <08034>.

20 And the LORD <03068> hath performed <06965> his word <01697>

that he spake <01696>, and I am risen <06965> up in the room

<08478> of David <01732> my father <01>, and sit <03427> on

<05921> the throne <03678> of Israel <03478>, as the LORD

<03068> promised <01696>, and have built <01129> an house

<01004> for the name <08034> of the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Israel <03478>.

 21 And I have set <07760> there <08033> a place <04725> for the

ark <0727>, wherein [is] the covenant <01285> of the LORD

<03068>, which <0834> he made <03772> with our fathers <01>,

when he brought <03318> them out of the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>.

 22. And Solomon <08010> stood <05975> before <06440> the altar

<04196> of the LORD <03068> in the presence <05048> of all

<03605> the congregation <06951> of Israel <03478>, and spread

<06566> forth his hands <03027> toward heaven <08064>:

23 And he said <0559>, LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, [there is] no <0369> God <0430> like <03644> thee, in

heaven <08064> above <04605>, or on <05921> earth <0776> beneath

<08478>, who keepest <08104> covenant <01285> and mercy <02617>

with thy servants <05650> that walk <01980> before <06440> thee

with all <03605> their heart <03824>:

24 Who <0834> hast kept <08104> with thy servant <05650> David

<01732> my father <01> that thou promisedst <01696> him: thou

spakest <01696> also with thy mouth <06310>, and hast fulfilled

<04390> [it] with thine hand <03027>, as [it is] this <02088>

day <03117>.

25 Therefore now <06258>, LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478>, keep <08104> with thy servant <05650> David <01732> my

father <01> that thou promisedst <01696> him, saying <0559>,

There shall not fail <03772> thee a man <0376> in my sight

<06440> to sit <03427> on <05921> the throne <03678> of Israel

<03478>; so <07535> that thy children <01121> take heed <08104>

to their way <01870>, that they walk <03212> before <06440> me

as thou hast walked <01980> before <06440> me.

 26 And now <06258>, O God <0430> of Israel <03478>, let thy

word <01697>, I pray <04994> thee, be verified <0539>, which

<0834> thou spakest <01696> unto thy servant <05650> David

<01732> my father <01>.

 27 But will God <0430> indeed <0552> dwell <03427> on <05921>

the earth <0776>? behold <02009>, the heaven <08064> and heaven

<08064> of heavens <08064> cannot <03808> contain <03557> thee;

how <0637> much <0637> less this <02088> house <01004> that I

have builded <01129>?

28 Yet have thou respect <06437> unto the prayer <08605> of thy

servant <05650>, and to his supplication <08467>, O LORD <03068>

my God <0430>, to hearken <08085> unto the cry <07440> and to

the prayer <08605>, which <0834> thy servant <05650> prayeth

<06419> before <06440> thee to day <03117>:

29 That thine eyes <05869> may be open <06605> toward <0413>

this <02088> house <01004> night <03915> and day <03117>, [even]

toward <0413> the place <04725> of which <0834> thou hast said

<0559>, My name <08034> shall be there <08033>: that thou mayest

hearken <08085> unto the prayer <08605> which <0834> thy servant

<05650> shall make toward <0413> this <02088> place <04725>.

30 And hearken <08085> thou to the supplication <08467> of thy

servant <05650>, and of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, when

<0834> they shall pray <06419> toward <0413> this <02088> place

<04725>: and hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064> thy dwelling

<03427> place <04725>: and when thou hearest <08085>, forgive

<05545>.

31 If any man <0376> trespass <02398> against his neighbour

<07453>, and an oath <0423> be laid <05375> upon him to cause

him to swear <0422>, and the oath <0423> come <0935> before

<06440> thine altar <04196> in this <02088> house <01004>:

32 Then hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064>, and do <06213>,

and judge <08199> thy servants <05650>, condemning <07561> the

wicked <07563>, to bring <05414> his way <01870> upon his head

<07218>; and justifying <06663> the righteous <06662>, to give

<05414> him according to his righteousness <06666>.

33 When thy people <05971> Israel <03478> be smitten <05062>

down before <06440> the enemy <0341>, because <0834> they have

sinned <02398> against thee, and shall turn <07725> again

<07725> to thee, and confess <03034> thy name <08034>, and pray

<06419>, and make supplication <02603> unto thee in this <02088>

house <01004>:

34 Then hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064>, and forgive

<05545> the sin <02403> of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>,

and bring <07725> them again <07725> unto the land <0127> which

<0834> thou gavest <05414> unto their fathers <01>.

35 When heaven <08064> is shut <06113> up, and there is no

<03808> rain <04306>, because <03588> they have sinned <02398>

against thee; if they pray <06419> toward <0413> this <02088>

place <04725>, and confess <03034> thy name <08034>, and turn

<07725> from their sin <02403>, when <03588> thou afflictest

<06031> them:

36 Then hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064>, and forgive

<05545> the sin <02403> of thy servants <05650>, and of thy

people <05971> Israel <03478>, that thou teach <03384> them the

good <02896> way <01870> wherein <0834> they should walk <03212>,

and give <05414> rain <04306> upon thy land <0776>, which

<0834> thou hast given <05414> to thy people <05971> for an

inheritance <05159>.

37 If <03588> there be in the land <0776> famine <07458>, if

<03588> there be pestilence <01698>, blasting <07711>, mildew

<03420>, locust <0697>, [or] if <03588> there be caterpiller

<02625>; if <03588> their enemy <0341> besiege <06887> them in

the land <0776> of their cities <08179>; whatsoever <03605>

plague <05061>, whatsoever <03605> sickness <04245> [there be];

 38 What <03605> prayer <08605> and supplication <08467> soever

<0834> be [made] by any <03605> man <0120>, [or] by all <03605>

thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, which <0834> shall know

<03045> every man <0376> the plague <05061> of his own heart

<03824>, and spread <06566> forth his hands <03027> toward

<0413> this <02088> house <01004>:

39 Then hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064> thy dwelling

<03427> place <04349>, and forgive <05545>, and do <06213>, and

give <05414> to every man <0376> according <03605> to his ways

<01870>, whose <0834> heart <03824> thou knowest <03045>; (for

thou, [even] thou only <0905>, knowest <03045> the hearts

<03824> of all <03605> the children <01121> of men <0120>;)

40 That they may fear <03372> thee all <03605> the days <03117>

that they live <02416> in the land <0127> which <0834> thou

gavest <05414> unto our fathers <01>.

 41 Moreover <01571> concerning <0413> a stranger <05237>, that

[is] not of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, but cometh <0935>

out of a far <07350> country <0776> for thy name's <08034> sake

<04616>;

42 (For they shall hear <08085> of thy great <01419> name

<08034>, and of thy strong <02389> hand <03027>, and of thy

stretched <05186> out arm <02220>;) when he shall come <0935>

and pray <06419> toward <0413> this <02088> house <01004>;

43 Hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064> thy dwelling <03427>

place <04349>, and do <06213> according to all <03605> that the

stranger <05237> calleth <07121> to thee for: that all <03605>

people <05971> of the earth <0776> may know <03045> thy name

<08034>, to fear <03372> thee, as [do] thy people <05971> Israel

<03478>; and that they may know <03045> that this <02088> house

<01004>, which <0834> I have builded <01129>, is called <07121>

by thy name <08034>.

44 If <03588> thy people <05971> go <03318> out to battle

<04421> against <05921> their enemy <0341>, whithersoever thou

shalt send <07971> them, and shall pray <06419> unto the LORD

<03068> toward <01870> the city <05892> which <0834> thou hast

chosen <0977>, and [toward] the house <01004> that I have built

<01129> for thy name <08034>:

45 Then hear <08085> thou in heaven <08064> their prayer

<08605> and their supplication <08467>, and maintain <06213>

their cause <04941>.

46 If <03588> they sin <02398> against thee, (for [there is] no

<0369> man <0120> that sinneth <02398> not,) and thou be angry

<0599> with them, and deliver <05414> them to the enemy <0341>,

so that they carry <07617> them away <07617> captives <07617>

unto the land <0776> of the enemy <0341>, far <07350> or <0176>

near <07138>;

47 [Yet] if they shall bethink themselves in the land <0776>

whither they were carried <07617> captives <07617>, and repent

<07725>, and make supplication <02603> unto thee in the land

<0776> of them that carried <07617> them captives <07617>,

saying <0559>, We have sinned <02398>, and have done perversely

<05753>, we have committed <07561> wickedness <07561>;

48 And [so] return <07725> unto thee with all <03605> their

heart <03824>, and with all <03605> their soul <05315>, in the

land <0776> of their enemies <0341>, which <0834> led them away

<07617> captive <07617>, and pray <06419> unto thee toward

<01870> their land <0776>, which <0834> thou gavest <05414> unto

their fathers <01>, the city <05892> which <0834> thou hast

chosen <0977>, and the house <01004> which <0834> I have built

<01129> for thy name <08034>:

49 Then hear <08085> thou their prayer <08605> and their

supplication <08467> in heaven <08064> thy dwelling <03427>

place <04349>, and maintain <06213> their cause <04941>,

50 And forgive <05545> thy people <05971> that have sinned

<02398> against thee, and all <03605> their transgressions

<06588> wherein <0834> they have transgressed <06586> against

thee, and give <05414> them compassion <07356> before <06440>

them who carried <07617> them captive <07617>, that they may

have compassion <07355> on them:

51 For they [be] thy people <05971>, and thine inheritance

<05159>, which <0834> thou broughtest <03318> forth <03318> out

of Egypt <04714>, from the midst <08432> of the furnace <03564>

of iron <01270>:

52 That thine eyes <05869> may be open <06605> unto the

supplication <08467> of thy servant <05650>, and unto the

supplication <08467> of thy people <05971> Israel <03478>, to

hearken <08085> unto them in all <03605> that they call <07121>

for unto thee.

53 For thou didst <06213> separate <0914> them from among all

<03605> the people <05971> of the earth <0776>, [to be] thine

inheritance <05159>, as thou spakest <01696> by the hand <03027>

of Moses <04872> thy servant <05650>, when thou broughtest

<03318> our fathers <01> out of Egypt <04714>, O Lord <0136> GOD

<03069>.

 54. And it was [so], that when Solomon <08010> had made an end

<03615> of praying <06419> all <03605> this <02063> prayer

<08605> and supplication <08467> unto the LORD <03068>, he arose

<06965> from before <06440> the altar <04196> of the LORD

<03068>, from kneeling <03766> on <05921> his knees <01290> with

his hands <03027> spread <06566> up to heaven <08064>.

55 And he stood <05975>, and blessed <01288> all <03605> the

congregation <06951> of Israel <03478> with a loud <01419> voice

<06963>, saying <0559>,

56 Blessed <01288> [be] the LORD <03068>, that hath given

<05414> rest <04496> unto his people <05971> Israel <03478>,

according to all <03605> that he promised <01696>: there hath

not failed <05307> one <0259> word <01697> of all <03605> his

good <02896> promise <01697>, which <0834> he promised <01696>

by the hand <03027> of Moses <04872> his servant <05650>.

57 The LORD <03068> our God <0430> be with us, as he was with

our fathers <01>: let him not leave <05800> us, nor <0408>

forsake <05203> us:

58 That he may incline <05186> our hearts <03824> unto him, to

walk <03212> in all <03605> his ways <01870>, and to keep

<08104> his commandments <04687>, and his statutes <02706>, and

his judgments <04941>, which <0834> he commanded <06680> our

fathers <01>.

 59 And let these <0428> my words <01697>, wherewith <0834> I

have made supplication <02603> before <06440> the LORD <03068>,

be nigh <07126> unto the LORD <03068> our God <0430> day <03119>

and night <03915>, that he maintain <06213> the cause <04941> of

his servant <05650>, and the cause <04941> of his people <05971>

Israel <03478> at all times <03117>, as the matter <01697> shall

require <03117>:

60 That all <03605> the people <05971> of the earth <0776> may

know <03045> that the LORD <03068> [is] God <0430>, [and that

there is] none <0369> else <05750>.

61 Let your heart <03824> therefore be perfect <08003> with the

LORD <03068> our God <0430>, to walk <03212> in his statutes

<02706>, and to keep <08104> his commandments <04687>, as at

this <02088> day <03117>.

 62. And the king <04428>, and all <03605> Israel <03478> with

him, offered <02076> sacrifice <02077> before <06440> the LORD

<03068>.

 63 And Solomon <08010> offered <02076> a sacrifice <02077> of

peace <08002> offerings, which <0834> he offered <02076> unto

the LORD <03068>, two <08147> and twenty <06242> thousand <0505>

oxen <01241>, and an hundred <03967> and twenty <06242> thousand

<0505> sheep <06629>. So the king <04428> and all <03605> the

children <01121> of Israel <03478> dedicated <02596> the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>.

64 The same <01931> day <03117> did the king <04428> hallow

<06942> the middle <08432> of the court <02691> that [was]

before <06440> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>: for there

<08033> he offered <06213> burnt <05930> offerings, and meat

offerings <04503>, and the fat <02459> of the peace <08002>

offerings: because <03588> the brasen <05178> altar <04196> that

[was] before <06440> the LORD <03068> [was] too little <06996>

to receive <03557> the burnt <05930> offerings, and meat

offerings <04503>, and the fat <02459> of the peace <08002>

offerings.

 65 And at that time <06256> Solomon <08010> held <06213> a

feast <02282>, and all <03605> Israel <03478> with him, a great

<01419> congregation <06951>, from the entering <0935> in of

Hamath <02574> unto the river <05158> of Egypt <04714>, before

<06440> the LORD <03068> our God <0430>, seven <07651> days

<03117> and seven <07651> days <03117>, [even] fourteen days

<03117>.

66 On the eighth <08066> day <03117> he sent <07971> the people

<05971> away: and they blessed <01288> the king <04428>, and

went <03212> unto their tents <0168> joyful <08056> and glad

<02896> of heart <03824> for all <03605> the goodness <02896>

that the LORD <03068> had done <06213> for David <01732> his

servant <05650>, and for Israel <03478> his people <05971>.

1Kings 9

 1. And it came <01961> to pass, when Solomon <08010> had

finished <03615> the building <01129> of the house <01004> of

the LORD <03068>, and the king's <04428> house <01004>, and all

<03605> Solomon's <08010> desire <02837> which <0834> he was

pleased <02654> to do <06213>,

2 That the LORD <03068> appeared <07200> to Solomon <08010> the

second <08145> time, as he had appeared <07200> unto him at

Gibeon <01391>.

3 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him, I have heard

<08085> thy prayer <08605> and thy supplication <08467>, that

thou hast made before <06440> me: I have hallowed <06942> this

<02088> house <01004>, which <0834> thou hast built <01129>, to

put <07760> my name <08034> there <08033> for ever <05769>; and

mine eyes <05869> and mine heart <03824> shall be there <08033>

perpetually.

4 And if <0518> thou wilt walk <03212> before <06440> me, as

David <01732> thy father <01> walked <01980>, in integrity

<08537> of heart <03824>, and in uprightness <03476>, to do

<06213> according to all <03605> that I have commanded <06680>

thee, [and] wilt keep <08104> my statutes <02706> and my

judgments <04941>:

5 Then I will establish <06965> the throne <03678> of thy

kingdom <04467> upon Israel <03478> for ever <05769>, as I

promised <01696> to David <01732> thy father <01>, saying <0559>,

There shall not fail <03772> thee a man <0376> upon the throne

<03678> of Israel <03478>.

6 [But] if <0518> ye shall at all turn <07725> from following

<0310> me, ye or your children <01121>, and will not keep

<08104> my commandments <04687> [and] my statutes <02708> which

<0834> I have set <05414> before <06440> you, but go <01980> and

serve <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>, and worship <07812> them:

7 Then will I cut <03772> off Israel <03478> out of the land

<0127> which <0834> I have given <05414> them; and this house

<01004>, which <0834> I have hallowed <06942> for my name

<08034>, will I cast <07971> out of my sight <06440>; and Israel

<03478> shall be a proverb <04912> and a byword <08148> among

all <03605> people <05971>:

8 And at this <02088> house <01004>, [which] is high <05945>,

every <03605> one that passeth <05674> by it shall be astonished

<08074>, and shall hiss <08319>; and they shall say <0559>, Why

hath the LORD <03068> done <06213> thus <03602> unto this land

<0776>, and to this house <01004>?

9 And they shall answer <0559>, Because they forsook <05800>

the LORD <03068> their God <0430>, who <0834> brought <03318>

forth <03318> their fathers <01> out of the land <0776> of Egypt

<04714>, and have taken <02388> hold <02388> upon other <0312>

gods <0430>, and have worshipped <07812> them, and served

<05647> them: therefore hath the LORD <03068> brought <0935>

upon them all <03605> this <02063> evil <07451>.

 10. And it came <01961> to pass at the end <07097> of twenty

<06242> years <08141>, when Solomon <08010> had built <01129>

the two <08147> houses <01004>, the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and the king's <04428> house <01004>,

11 ([Now] Hiram <02438> the king <04428> of Tyre <06865> had

furnished <05375> Solomon <08010> with cedar <0730> trees

<06086> and fir <01265> trees <06086>, and with gold <02091>,

according to all <03605> his desire <02656>,) that then <0227>

king <04428> Solomon <08010> gave <05414> Hiram <02438> twenty

<06242> cities <05892> in the land <0776> of Galilee <01551>.

12 And Hiram <02438> came <03318> out from Tyre <06865> to see

<07200> the cities <05892> which <0834> Solomon <08010> had

given <05414> him; and they pleased him not.

13 And he said <0559>, What <04100> cities <05892> [are] these

<0428> which <0834> thou hast given <05414> me, my brother

<0251>? And he called <07121> them the land <0776> of Cabul

<03521> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

14 And Hiram <02438> sent <07971> to the king <04428> sixscore

talents <03603> of gold <02091>.

 15. And this <02088> [is] the reason <01697> of the levy

<04522> which <0834> king <04428> Solomon <08010> raised <05927>;

for to build <01129> the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and

his own house <01004>, and Millo <04407>, and the wall <02346>

of Jerusalem <03389>, and Hazor <02674>, and Megiddo <04023>,

and Gezer <01507>.

16 [For] Pharaoh <06547> king <04428> of Egypt <04714> had gone

<05927> up, and taken <03920> Gezer <01507>, and burnt <08313>

it with fire <0784>, and slain <02026> the Canaanites <03669>

that dwelt <03427> in the city <05892>, and given <05414> it

[for] a present <07964> unto his daughter <01323>, Solomon's

<08010> wife <0802>.

 17 And Solomon <08010> built <01129> Gezer <01507>, and

Bethhoron <01032> the nether <08481>,

18 And Baalath <01191>, and Tadmor <08412> in the wilderness

<04057>, in the land <0776>,

19 And all <03605> the cities <05892> of store <04543> that

Solomon <08010> had <01961>, and cities <05892> for his chariots

<07393>, and cities <05892> for his horsemen <06571>, and that

which <0834> Solomon <08010> desired <02836> to build <01129> in

Jerusalem <03389>, and in Lebanon <03844>, and in all <03605>

the land <0776> of his dominion <04475>.

20 [And] all <03605> the people <05971> [that were] left

<03498> of the Amorites <0567>, Hittites <02850>, Perizzites

<06522>, Hivites <02340>, and Jebusites <02983>, which <0834>

[were] not of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>,

21 Their children <01121> that were left <03498> after <0310>

them in the land <0776>, whom the children <01121> of Israel

<03478> also were not able <03201> utterly to destroy <02763>,

upon those did Solomon <08010> levy <05927> a tribute <04522> of

bondservice <05647> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

22 But of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did Solomon

<08010> make <05414> no <03808> bondmen <05650>: but they [were]

men <0582> of war <04421>, and his servants <05650>, and his

princes <08269>, and his captains <07991>, and rulers <08269> of

his chariots <07393>, and his horsemen <06571>.

23 These <0428> [were] the chief <08269> of the officers

<05324> that [were] over <05921> Solomon's <08010> work <04399>,

five <02568> hundred <03967> and fifty <02572>, which bare

<07287> rule <07287> over the people <05971> that wrought

<06213> in the work <04399>.

 24 But Pharaoh's <06547> daughter <01323> came <05927> up out

of the city <05892> of David <01732> unto her house <01004>

which <0834> [Solomon] had built <01129> for her: then <0227>

did he build <01129> Millo <04407>.

 25 And three <07969> times <06471> in a year <08141> did

Solomon <08010> offer <05927> burnt <05930> offerings and peace

<08002> offerings upon the altar <04196> which <0834> he built

<01129> unto the LORD <03068>, and he burnt <06999> incense

<06999> upon the altar <04196> that [was] before <06440> the

LORD <03068>. So he finished <07999> the house <01004>.

 26 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> made <06213> a navy <0590>

of ships in Eziongeber <06100>, which <0834> [is] beside <0854>

Eloth <0359>, on <05921> the shore <08193> of the Red <05488>

sea <03220>, in the land <0776> of Edom <0123>.

27 And Hiram <02438> sent <07971> in the navy <0590> his

servants <05650>, shipmen that had knowledge <03045> of the sea

<03220>, with the servants <05650> of Solomon <08010>.

28 And they came <0935> to Ophir <0211>, and fetched <03947>

from thence <08033> gold <02091>, four <0702> hundred <03967>

and twenty <06242> talents <03603>, and brought <0935> [it] to

king <04428> Solomon <08010>.

1Kings 10

 1. And when the queen <04436> of Sheba <07614> heard <08085> of

the fame <08088> of Solomon <08010> concerning the name <08034>

of the LORD <03068>, she came <0935> to prove <05254> him with

hard <02420> questions <02420>.

 2 And she came <0935> to Jerusalem <03389> with a very <03966>

great <03515> train <02428>, with camels <01581> that bare

<05375> spices <01314>, and very <03966> much <07227> gold

<02091>, and precious <03368> stones <068>: and when she was

come <0935> to Solomon <08010>, she communed <01696> with him of

all <03605> that was in her heart <03824>.

3 And Solomon <08010> told <05046> her all <03605> her

questions <01697>: there was not [any] thing <01697> hid <05956>

from the king <04428>, which <0834> he told <05046> her not.

4 And when the queen <04436> of Sheba <07614> had seen <07200>

all <03605> Solomon's <08010> wisdom <02451>, and the house

<01004> that he had built <01129>,

5 And the meat <03978> of his table <07979>, and the sitting

<04186> of his servants <05650>, and the attendance <04612> of

his ministers <08334>, and their apparel <04403>, and his

cupbearers <04945>, and his ascent <05930> by which <0834> he

went <05927> up unto the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>;

there was no <03808> more <05750> spirit <07307> in her.

6 And she said <0559> to the king <04428>, It was a true <0571>

report <01697> that I heard <08085> in mine own land <0776> of

thy acts <01697> and of thy wisdom <02451>.

7 Howbeit I believed <0539> not the words <01697>, until

<05704> I came <0935>, and mine eyes <05869> had seen <07200>

[it]: and, behold <02009>, the half <02677> was not told <05046>

me: thy wisdom <02451> and prosperity <02896> exceedeth <03254>

the fame <08052> which <0834> I heard <08085>.

8 Happy <0835> [are] thy men <0582>, happy <0835> [are] these

<0428> thy servants <05650>, which stand <05975> continually

<08548> before <06440> thee, [and] that hear <08085> thy wisdom

<02451>.

9 Blessed <01288> be the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, which

<0834> delighted <02654> in thee, to set <05414> thee on <05921>

the throne <03678> of Israel <03478>: because the LORD <03068>

loved <0160> Israel <03478> for ever <05769>, therefore made

<07760> he thee king <04428>, to do <06213> judgment <04941> and

justice <06666>.

10 And she gave <05414> the king <04428> an hundred <03967> and

twenty <06242> talents <03603> of gold <02091>, and of spices

<01314> very <03966> great <07235> store, and precious <03368>

stones <068>: there came <0935> no <03808> more <05750> such

<01931> abundance <07230> of spices <01314> as these <01931>

which <0834> the queen <04436> of Sheba <07614> gave <05414> to

king <04428> Solomon <08010>.

11 And the navy <0590> also <01571> of Hiram <02438>, that

brought <05375> gold <02091> from Ophir <0211>, brought <0935>

in from Ophir <0211> great <03966> plenty <07235> of almug

<0484> trees <06086>, and precious <03368> stones <068>.

12 And the king <04428> made <06213> of the almug <0484> trees

<06086> pillars <04552> for the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068>, and for the king's <04428> house <01004>, harps <03658>

also and psalteries <05035> for singers <07891>: there came

<0935> no <03808> such <03651> almug <0484> trees <06086>, nor

<03808> were seen <07200> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

13 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> gave <05414> unto the queen

<04436> of Sheba <07614> all <03605> her desire <02656>,

whatsoever <0834> she asked <07592>, beside <0905> [that] which

<0834> Solomon <08010> gave <05414> her of his royal <04428>

bounty. So she turned <06437> and went <03212> to her own <0249>

country <0776>, she and her servants <05650>.

 14. Now the weight <04948> of gold <02091> that came <0935> to

Solomon <08010> in one <0259> year <08141> was six <08337>

hundred <03967> threescore <08346> and six <08337> talents

<03603> of gold <02091>,

15 Beside <0905> [that he had] of the merchantmen <08446>, and

of the traffick <04536> of the spice <07402> merchants <07402>,

and of all <03605> the kings <04428> of Arabia <06152>, and of

the governors <06346> of the country <0776>.

16 And king <04428> Solomon <08010> made <06213> two hundred

<03967> targets <06793> [of] beaten <07820> gold <02091>: six

<08337> hundred <03967> [shekels] of gold <02091> went <05927>

to one <0259> target <06793>.

17 And [he made] three <07969> hundred <03967> shields <04043>

[of] beaten <07820> gold <02091>; three <07969> pound <04488> of

gold <02091> went <05927> to one <0259> shield <04043>: and the

king <04428> put <05414> them in the house <01004> of the forest

<03293> of Lebanon <03844>.

 18 Moreover the king <04428> made <06213> a great <01419>

throne <03678> of ivory <08127>, and overlaid <06823> it with

the best <06338> gold <02091>.

19 The throne <03678> had six <08337> steps <04609>, and the

top <07218> of the throne <03678> [was] round <05696> behind

<0310>: and [there were] stays <03027> on either side on <0413>

the place <04725> of the seat <07675>, and two <08147> lions

<0738> stood <05975> beside <0681> the stays <03027>.

20 And twelve lions <0738> stood <05975> there <08033> on the

one <02088> side and on the other <02088> upon the six <08337>

steps <04609>: there was not the like <03651> made <06213> in

any <03605> kingdom <04467>.

 21 And all <03605> king <04428> Solomon's <08010> drinking

<04945> vessels <03627> [were of] gold <02091>, and all <03605>

the vessels <03627> of the house <01004> of the forest <03293>

of Lebanon <03844> [were of] pure <05462> gold <02091>; none

<0369> [were of] silver <03701>: it was nothing accounted

<02803> of in the days <03117> of Solomon <08010>.

22 For the king <04428> had at sea <03220> a navy <0590> of

Tharshish <08659> with the navy <0590> of Hiram <02438>: once

<0259> in three <07969> years <08141> came <0935> the navy

<0590> of Tharshish <08659>, bringing <05375> gold <02091>, and

silver <03701>, ivory <08143>, and apes <06971>, and peacocks

<08500>.

 23 So king <04428> Solomon <08010> exceeded <01431> all <03605>

the kings <04428> of the earth <0776> for riches <06239> and for

wisdom <02451>.

24 And all <03605> the earth <0776> sought <01245> to Solomon

<08010>, to hear <08085> his wisdom <02451>, which <0834> God

<0430> had put <05414> in his heart <03820>.

25 And they brought <0935> every man <0376> his present <04503>,

vessels <03627> of silver <03701>, and vessels <03627> of gold

<02091>, and garments <08008>, and armour <05402>, and spices

<01314>, horses <05483>, and mules <06505>, a rate <01697> year

<08141> by year <08141>.

26 And Solomon <08010> gathered <0622> together chariots

<07393> and horsemen <06571>: and he had a thousand <0505> and

four <0702> hundred <03967> chariots <07393>, and twelve

thousand <0505> horsemen <06571>, whom he bestowed <03240> in

the cities <05892> for chariots <07393>, and with the king

<04428> at Jerusalem <03389>.

27 And the king <04428> made <05414> silver <03701> [to be] in

Jerusalem <03389> as stones <068>, and cedars <0730> made

<05414> he [to be] as the sycomore <08256> trees that [are] in

the vale <08219>, for abundance <07230>.

28 And Solomon <08010> had horses <05483> brought <04161> out

of Egypt <04714>, and linen <04723> yarn <04723>: the king's

<04428> merchants <05503> received <03947> the linen <04723>

yarn <04723> at a price <04242>.

 29 And a chariot <04818> came <05927> up and went <03318> out

of Egypt <04714> for six <08337> hundred <03967> [shekels] of

silver <03701>, and an horse <05483> for an hundred <03967> and

fifty <02572>: and so for all <03605> the kings <04428> of the

Hittites <02850>, and for the kings <04428> of Syria <0758>, did

they bring <03318> [them] out by their means <03027>.

1Kings 11

 1. But king <04428> Solomon <08010> loved <0157> many <07227>

strange <05237> women <0802>, together with the daughter <01323>

of Pharaoh <06547>, women of the Moabites <04125>, Ammonites

<05984>, Edomites <0130>, Zidonians <06722>, [and] Hittites

<02850>;

2 Of the nations <01471> [concerning] which <0834> the LORD

<03068> said <0559> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>,

Ye shall not go <0935> in to them, neither <03808> shall they

come <0935> in unto you: [for] surely <0403> they will turn

<05186> away your heart <03824> after <0310> their gods <0430>:

Solomon <08010> clave <01692> unto these <01992> in love <0160>.

 3 And he had <01961> seven <07651> hundred <03967> wives <0802>,

 princesses <08282>, and three <07969> hundred <03967>

concubines <06370>: and his wives <0802> turned <05186> away his

heart <03820>.

4 For it came <01961> to pass, when <06256> Solomon <08010> was

old <02209>, [that] his wives <0802> turned <05186> away his

heart <03824> after <0310> other <0312> gods <0430>: and his

heart <03824> was not perfect <08003> with the LORD <03068> his

God <0430>, as [was] the heart <03824> of David <01732> his

father <01>.

 5 For Solomon <08010> went <03212> after <0310> Ashtoreth

<06252> the goddess <0430> of the Zidonians <06722>, and after

<0310> Milcom <04445> the abomination <08251> of the Ammonites

<05984>.

6 And Solomon <08010> did <06213> evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, and went not fully <04390> after

<0310> the LORD <03068>, as [did] David <01732> his father <01>.

7 Then did Solomon <08010> build <01129> an high <01116> place

for Chemosh <03645>, the abomination <08251> of Moab <04124>, in

the hill <02022> that [is] before Jerusalem <03389>, and for

Molech <04432>, the abomination <08251> of the children <01121>

of Ammon <05983>.

8 And likewise <03651> did <06213> he for all <03605> his

strange <05237> wives <0802>, which burnt <06999> incense

<06999> and sacrificed <02076> unto their gods <0430>.

 9. And the LORD <03068> was angry <0599> with Solomon <08010>,

because <03588> his heart <03824> was turned <05186> from the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, which had appeared

<07200> unto him twice <06471>,

10 And had commanded <06680> him concerning <05921> this

<02088> thing <01697>, that he should not go <03212> after

<0310> other <0312> gods <0430>: but he kept <08104> not that

which <0834> the LORD <03068> commanded <06680>.

11 Wherefore <04100> the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Solomon

<08010>, Forasmuch as this <02063> is done of thee, and thou

hast not kept <08104> my covenant <01285> and my statutes

<02708>, which <0834> I have commanded <06680> thee, I will

surely rend <07167> the kingdom <04467> from thee, and will give

<05414> it to thy servant <05650>.

12 Notwithstanding <0389> in thy days <03117> I will not do

<06213> it for David <01732> thy father's <01> sake <04616>:

[but] I will rend <07167> it out of the hand <03027> of thy son

<01121>.

 13 Howbeit <07535> I will not rend <07167> away all <03605> the

kingdom <04467>; [but] will give <05414> one <0259> tribe

<07626> to thy son <01121> for David <01732> my servant's

<05650> sake <04616>, and for Jerusalem's <03389> sake <04616>

which <0834> I have chosen <0977>.

 14. And the LORD <03068> stirred <06965> up an adversary

<07854> unto Solomon <08010>, Hadad <01908> the Edomite <0130>:

he [was] of the king's <04428> seed <02233> in Edom <0123>.

15 For it came <01961> to pass, when David <01732> was in Edom

<0123>, and Joab <03097> the captain <08269> of the host <06635>

was gone <05927> up to bury <06912> the slain <02491>, after he

had smitten <05221> every <03605> male <02145> in Edom <0123>;

16 (For six <08337> months <02320> did Joab <03097> remain

<03427> there <08033> with all <03605> Israel <03478>, until

<05704> he had cut <03772> off every <03605> male <02145> in

Edom <0123>:)

17 That Hadad <01908> fled <01272>, he and certain <0582>

Edomites of his father's <01> servants <05650> with him, to go

<0935> into Egypt <04714>; Hadad <01908> [being] yet a little

<06996> child <05288>.

18 And they arose <06965> out of Midian <04080>, and came

<0935> to Paran <06290>: and they took <03947> men <0582> with

them out of Paran <06290>, and they came <0935> to Egypt <04714>,

unto Pharaoh <06547> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>; which gave

<05414> him an house <01004>, and appointed <0559> him victuals

<03899>, and gave <05414> him land <0776>.

 19 And Hadad <01908> found <04672> great <03966> favour <02580>

in the sight <05869> of Pharaoh <06547>, so that he gave <05414>

him to wife <0802> the sister <0269> of his own wife <0802>, the

sister <0269> of Tahpenes <08472> the queen <01377>.

20 And the sister <0269> of Tahpenes <08472> bare <03205> him

Genubath <01592> his son <01121>, whom Tahpenes <08472> weaned

<01580> in Pharaoh's <06547> house <01004>: and Genubath <01592>

was in Pharaoh's <06547> household <01004> among <08432> the

sons <01121> of Pharaoh <06547>.

21 And when Hadad <01908> heard <08085> in Egypt <04714> that

David <01732> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and that Joab

<03097> the captain <08269> of the host <06635> was dead <04191>,

Hadad <01908> said <0559> to Pharaoh <06547>, Let me depart

<07971>, that I may go <03212> to mine own country <0776>.

22 Then Pharaoh <06547> said <0559> unto him, But what <04100>

hast thou lacked <02638> with me, that, behold <02009>, thou

seekest <01245> to go <03212> to thine own country <0776>? And

he answered <0559>, Nothing <03808>: howbeit let me go <07971>

in any wise.

23 And God <0430> stirred <06965> him up [another] adversary

<07854>, Rezon <07331> the son <01121> of Eliadah <0450>, which

<0834> fled <01272> from his lord <0113> Hadadezer <01909> king

<04428> of Zobah <06678>:

24 And he gathered <06908> men <0582> unto him, and became

<01961> captain <08269> over a band <01416>, when David <01732>

slew <02026> them [of Zobah <06678>]: and they went <03212> to

Damascus <01834>, and dwelt <03427> therein, and reigned <04427>

in Damascus <01834>.

25 And he was an adversary <07854> to Israel <03478> all

<03605> the days <03117> of Solomon <08010>, beside <0854> the

mischief <07451> that Hadad <01908> [did]: and he abhorred

<06973> Israel <03478>, and reigned <04427> over <05921> Syria

<0758>.

 26. And Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, an

Ephrathite <0673> of Zereda, Solomon's <08010> servant <05650>,

whose mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Zeruah, a widow <0490>

woman <0802>, even he lifted <07311> up [his] hand <03027>

against the king <04428>.

27 And this <02088> [was] the cause <01697> that he lifted

<07311> up [his] hand <03027> against the king <04428>: Solomon

<08010> built <01129> Millo <04407>, [and] repaired <05462> the

breaches <06556> of the city <05892> of David <01732> his father

<01>.

 28 And the man <0376> Jeroboam <03379> [was] a mighty <01368>

man of valour <02428>: and Solomon <08010> seeing <07200> the

young <05288> man that he was industrious, he made him ruler

<06485> over all <03605> the charge <05447> of the house <01004>

of Joseph <03130>.

29 And it came <01961> to pass at that time <06256> when

Jeroboam <03379> went <03318> out of Jerusalem <03389>, that the

prophet <05030> Ahijah <0281> the Shilonite <07888> found

<04672> him in the way <01870>; and he had clad <03680> himself

<01931> with a new <02319> garment <08008>; and they two <08147>

[were] alone <0905> in the field <07704>:

30 And Ahijah <0281> caught <08610> the new <02319> garment

<08008> that [was] on <05921> him, and rent <07167> it [in]

twelve pieces <07168>:

31 And he said <0559> to Jeroboam <03379>, Take <03947> thee

ten <06235> pieces <07168>: for thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>, the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, Behold <02005>,

I will rend <07167> the kingdom <04467> out of the hand <03027>

of Solomon <08010>, and will give <05414> ten <06235> tribes

<07626> to thee:

32 (But he shall have <01961> one <0259> tribe <07626> for my

servant <05650> David's <01732> sake <04616>, and for

Jerusalem's <03389> sake <04616>, the city <05892> which <0834>

I have chosen <0977> out of all <03605> the tribes <07626> of

Israel <03478>:)

33 Because that they have forsaken <05800> me, and have

worshipped <07812> Ashtoreth <06252> the goddess <0430> of the

Zidonians <06722>, Chemosh <03645> the god <0430> of the

Moabites <04124>, and Milcom <04445> the god <0430> of the

children <01121> of Ammon <05983>, and have not walked <01980>

in my ways <01870>, to do <06213> [that which is] right <03477>

in mine eyes <05869>, and [to keep] my statutes <02708> and my

judgments <04941>, as [did] David <01732> his father <01>.

34 Howbeit I will not take <03947> the whole kingdom <04467>

out of his hand <03027>: but I will make him prince <05387> all

<03605> the days <03117> of his life <02416> for David my

servant's <05650> sake <04616>, whom <0834> I chose <0977>,

because <0834> he kept <08104> my commandments <04687> and my

statutes <02708>:

35 But I will take <03947> the kingdom <04410> out of his son's

<01121> hand <03027>, and will give <05414> it unto thee, [even]

ten <06235> tribes <07626>.

 36 And unto his son <01121> will I give <05414> one <0259>

tribe <07626>, that David <01732> my servant <05650> may have a

light <05216> alway before <06440> me in Jerusalem <03389>, the

city <05892> which <0834> I have chosen <0977> me to put <07760>

my name <08034> there <08033>.

37 And I will take <03947> thee, and thou shalt reign <04427>

according to all <03605> that thy soul <05315> desireth <08378>,

and shalt be king <04428> over <05921> Israel <03478>.

38 And it shall be, if <0518> thou wilt hearken <08085> unto

all <03605> that I command <06680> thee, and wilt walk <01980>

in my ways <01870>, and do <06213> [that is] right <03477> in my

sight <05869>, to keep <08104> my statutes <02708> and my

commandments <04687>, as David <01732> my servant <05650> did

<06213>; that I will be with thee, and build <01129> thee a sure

<0539> house <01004>, as I built <01129> for David <01732>, and

will give <05414> Israel <03478> unto thee.

 39 And I will for this <02063> afflict <06031> the seed <02233>

of David <01732>, but not for ever.

 40 Solomon <08010> sought <01245> therefore to kill <04191>

Jeroboam <03379>. And Jeroboam <03379> arose <06965>, and fled

<01272> into Egypt <04714>, unto Shishak <07895> king <04428> of

Egypt <04714>, and was in Egypt <04714> until <05704> the death

<04194> of Solomon <08010>.

 41. And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Solomon <08010>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, and his wisdom <02451>,

[are] they not written <03789> in the book <05612> of the acts

<01697> of Solomon <08010>?

42 And the time <03117> that Solomon <08010> reigned <04427> in

Jerusalem <03389> over <05921> all <03605> Israel <03478> [was]

forty <0705> years <08141>.

43 And Solomon <08010> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

was buried <06912> in the city <05892> of David <01732> his

father <01>: and Rehoboam <07346> his son <01121> reigned

<04427> in his stead <08478>.

1Kings 12

 1. And Rehoboam <07346> went <03212> to Shechem <07927>: for

all <03605> Israel <03478> were come <0935> to Shechem <07927>

to make him king <04427>.

2 And it came <01961> to pass, when Jeroboam <03379> the son

<01121> of Nebat <05028>, who <01931> was yet <05750> in Egypt

<04714>, heard <08085> [of it], (for he was fled <01272> from

the presence <06440> of king <04428> Solomon <08010>, and

Jeroboam <03379> dwelt <03427> in Egypt <04714>;)

3 That they sent <07971> and called <07121> him. And Jeroboam

<03379> and all <03605> the congregation <06951> of Israel

<03478> came <0935>, and spake <01696> unto Rehoboam <07346>,

saying <0559>,

4 Thy father <01> made our yoke <05923> grievous <07185>: now

<06258> therefore make thou the grievous <07186> service <05656>

of thy father <01>, and his heavy <03515> yoke <05923> which

<0834> he put <05414> upon us, lighter <07043>, and we will

serve <05647> thee.

5 And he said <0559> unto them, Depart <03212> yet <05750>

[for] three <07969> days <03117>, then come <07725> again

<07725> to me. And the people <05971> departed <03212>.

6 And king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> consulted <03289> with the

old <02205> men, that stood <05975> before Solomon <08010> his

father <01> while he yet lived <02416>, and said <0559>, How

<0349> do ye advise <03289> that I may answer <01697> this

<02088> people <05971>?

7 And they spake <01696> unto him, saying <0559>, If <0518>

thou wilt be a servant <05650> unto this <02088> people <05971>

this <02088> day <03117>, and wilt serve <05647> them, and

answer <06030> them, and speak <01696> good <02896> words

<01697> to them, then they will be thy servants <05650> for ever.

8 But he forsook <05800> the counsel <06098> of the old <02205>

men, which <0834> they had given <03289> him, and consulted

<03289> with the young <03206> men that were grown <01431> up

with him, [and] which <0834> stood <05975> before <06440> him:

9 And he said <0559> unto them, What <04100> counsel <03289>

give ye that we may answer <01697> this <02088> people <05971>,

who <0834> have spoken <01696> to me, saying <0559>, Make the

yoke <05923> which <0834> thy father <01> did put <05414> upon

us lighter <07043>?

10 And the young <03206> men that were grown <01431> up with

him spake <01696> unto him, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> shalt

thou speak <0559> unto this <02088> people <05971> that spake

<01696> unto thee, saying <0559>, Thy father <01> made our yoke

<05923> heavy <03513>, but make thou [it] lighter <07043> unto

us; thus <03541> shalt thou say <0559> unto them, My little

<06996> [finger] shall be thicker <05666> than my father's <01>

loins <04975>.

11 And now <06258> whereas my father <01> did lade <06006> you

with a heavy <03515> yoke <05923>, I will add <03254> to your

yoke <05923>: my father <01> hath chastised <03256> you with

whips <07752>, but I will chastise <03256> you with scorpions

<06137>.

12 So Jeroboam <03379> and all <03605> the people <05971> came

<0935> to Rehoboam <07346> the third <07992> day <03117>, as the

king <04428> had appointed <01696>, saying <0559>, Come <07725>

to me again <07725> the third <07992> day <03117>.

13 And the king <04428> answered <06030> the people <05971>

roughly <07186>, and forsook <05800> the old <02205> men's

counsel <06098> that they gave <03289> him;

14 And spake <01696> to them after the counsel <06098> of the

young <03206> men, saying <0559>, My father <01> made your yoke

<05923> heavy <03513>, and I will add <03254> to your yoke

<05923>: my father <01> [also] chastised <03256> you with whips

<07752>, but I will chastise <03256> you with scorpions <06137>.

 15 Wherefore <04100> the king <04428> hearkened <08085> not

unto the people <05971>; for the cause <05438> was from the LORD

<03068>, that he might perform <06965> his saying <01697>, which

<0834> the LORD <03068> spake <01696> by Ahijah <0281> the

Shilonite <07888> unto Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat

<05028>.

 16. So when all <03605> Israel <03478> saw <07200> that the

king <04428> hearkened <08085> not unto them, the people <05971>

answered <01697> the king <04428>, saying <0559>, What <04100>

portion <02506> have we in David <01732>? neither <03808> [have

we] inheritance <05159> in the son <01121> of Jesse <03448>: to

your tents <0168>, O Israel <03478>: now <06258> see <07200> to

thine own house <01004>, David <01732>. So Israel <03478>

departed <03212> unto their tents <0168>.

17 But [as for] the children <01121> of Israel <03478> which

dwelt <03427> in the cities <05892> of Judah <03063>, Rehoboam

<07346> reigned <04427> over <05921> them.

 18 Then king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> sent <07971> Adoram

<0151>, who <0834> [was] over <05921> the tribute <04522>; and

all <03605> Israel <03478> stoned <07275> him with stones <068>,

that he died <04191>. Therefore king <04428> Rehoboam <07346>

made speed <0553> to get <05927> him up to his chariot <04818>,

to flee <05127> to Jerusalem <03389>.

19 So Israel <03478> rebelled <06586> against the house <01004>

of David <01732> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

20 And it came <01961> to pass, when all <03605> Israel <03478>

heard <08085> that Jeroboam <03379> was come <07725> again

<07725>, that they sent <07971> and called <07121> him unto the

congregation <05712>, and made him king <04427> over <05921> all

<03605> Israel <03478>: there was none <03808> that followed

<0310> the house <01004> of David <01732>, but the tribe <07626>

of Judah <03063> only <0905>.

21 And when Rehoboam <07346> was come <0935> to Jerusalem

<03389>, he assembled <06950> all <03605> the house <01004> of

Judah <03063>, with the tribe <07626> of Benjamin <01144>, an

hundred <03967> and fourscore <08084> thousand <0505> chosen

<0970> men, which were warriors, to fight <03898> against

<05973> the house <01004> of Israel <03478>, to bring <07725>

the kingdom <04410> again <07725> to Rehoboam <07346> the son

<01121> of Solomon <08010>.

22 But the word <01697> of God <0430> came <01961> unto

Shemaiah <08098> the man <0376> of God <0430>, saying <0559>,

23 Speak <0559> unto Rehoboam <07346>, the son <01121> of

Solomon <08010>, king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and unto all

<03605> the house <01004> of Judah <03063> and Benjamin <01144>,

and to the remnant <03499> of the people <05971>, saying <0559>,

24 Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Ye shall not go

<05927> up, nor <03808> fight <03898> against <05973> your

brethren <0251> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>: return

<07725> every man <0376> to his house <01004>; for this <02088>

thing <01697> is from me. They hearkened <08085> therefore to

the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, and returned <07725> to

depart <03212>, according to the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068>.

 25. Then Jeroboam <03379> built <01129> Shechem <07927> in

mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>, and dwelt <03427> therein; and

went <03318> out from thence <08033>, and built <01129> Penuel

<06439>.

26 And Jeroboam <03379> said <0559> in his heart <03820>, Now

<06258> shall the kingdom <04467> return <07725> to the house

<01004> of David <01732>:

 27 If <0518> this <02088> people <05971> go <05927> up to do

<06213> sacrifice <02077> in the house <01004> of the LORD

<03068> at Jerusalem <03389>, then shall the heart <03820> of

this <02088> people <05971> turn <07725> again <07725> unto

their lord <03068>, [even] unto Rehoboam <07346> king <04428> of

Judah <03063>, and they shall kill <02026> me, and go again

<07725> to Rehoboam <07346> king <04428> of Judah <03063>.

28 Whereupon the king <04428> took counsel <03289>, and made

<06213> two <08147> calves <05695> [of] gold <02091>, and said

<0559> unto them, It is too much <07227> for you to go <05927>

up to Jerusalem <03389>: behold <02009> thy gods <0430>, O

Israel <03478>, which <0834> brought <05927> thee up out of the

land <0776> of Egypt <04714>.

29 And he set <07760> the one <0259> in Bethel <01008>, and the

other <0259> put <05414> he in Dan <01835>.

 30 And this <02088> thing <01697> became <01961> a sin <02403>:

for the people <05971> went <03212> [to worship] before <06440>

the one <0259>, [even] unto Dan <01835>.

31 And he made <06213> an house <01004> of high <01116> places,

and made <06213> priests <03548> of the lowest <07098> of the

people <05971>, which <0834> were not of the sons <01121> of

Levi <03878>.

 32 And Jeroboam <03379> ordained <06213> a feast <02282> in the

eighth <08066> month <02320>, on the fifteenth <06240> day

<03117> of the month <02320>, like unto the feast <02282> that

[is] in Judah <03063>, and he offered <05927> upon the altar

<04196>. So <03651> did <06213> he in Bethel <01008>,

sacrificing <02076> unto the calves <05695> that he had made

<06213>: and he placed <05975> in Bethel <01008> the priests

<03548> of the high <01116> places which <0834> he had made

<06213>.

33 So he offered <05927> upon the altar <04196> which <0834> he

had made <06213> in Bethel <01008> the fifteenth <06240> day

<03117> of the eighth <08066> month <02320>, [even] in the month

<02320> which <0834> he had devised <0908> of his own heart

<03820>; and ordained <06213> a feast <02282> unto the children

<01121> of Israel <03478>: and he offered <05927> upon the altar

<04196>, and burnt <06999> incense <06999>.

1Kings 13

 1. And, behold <02009>, there came <0935> a man <0376> of God

<0430> out of Judah <03063> by the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> unto Bethel <01008>: and Jeroboam <03379> stood <05975>

by the altar <04196> to burn <06999> incense <06999>.

2 And he cried <07121> against <05921> the altar <04196> in the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>, O altar

<04196>, altar <04196>, thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD

<03068>; Behold <02009>, a child <01121> shall be born <03205>

unto the house <01004> of David <01732>, Josiah <02977> by name

<08034>; and upon thee shall he offer <02076> the priests

<03548> of the high <01116> places that burn <06999> incense

<06999> upon thee, and men's <0120> bones <06106> shall be burnt

<08313> upon thee.

 3 And he gave <05414> a sign <04159> the same <01931> day

<03117>, saying <0559>, This <02088> [is] the sign <04159> which

<0834> the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696>; Behold <02009>, the

altar <04196> shall be rent <07167>, and the ashes <01880> that

[are] upon it shall be poured <08210> out.

4 And it came <01961> to pass, when king <04428> Jeroboam

<03379> heard <08085> the saying <01697> of the man <0376> of

God <0430>, which <0834> had cried <07121> against <05921> the

altar <04196> in Bethel <01008>, that he put <07971> forth

<07971> his hand <03027> from the altar <04196>, saying <0559>,

Lay hold <08610> on him. And his hand <03027>, which <0834> he

put <07971> forth <07971> against <05921> him, dried <03001> up,

so that he could <03201> not pull <07725> it in again <07725> to

him.

5 The altar <04196> also was rent <07167>, and the ashes

<01880> poured <08210> out from the altar <04196>, according to

the sign <04159> which <0834> the man <0376> of God <0430> had

given <05414> by the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>.

6 And the king <04428> answered <06030> and said <0559> unto

the man <0376> of God <0430>, Intreat <02470> now <04994> the

face <06440> of the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>, and pray

<06419> for me, that my hand <03027> may be restored <07725> me

again <07725>. And the man <0376> of God <0430> besought <02470>

the LORD <03068>, and the king's <04428> hand <03027> was

restored <07725> him again <07725>, and became <01961> as [it

was] before <07223>.

7 And the king <04428> said <01696> unto the man <0376> of God

<0430>, Come <0935> home <01004> with me, and refresh <05582>

thyself, and I will give <05414> thee a reward <04991>.

8 And the man <0376> of God <0430> said <0559> unto the king

<04428>, If <0518> thou wilt give <05414> me half <02677> thine

house <01004>, I will not go <0935> in with thee, neither

<03808> will I eat <0398> bread <03899> nor <03808> drink

<08354> water <04325> in this <02088> place <04725>:

9 For so <03651> was it charged <06680> me by the word <01697>

of the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>, Eat <0398> no <03808> bread

<03899>, nor <03808> drink <08354> water <04325>, nor <03808>

turn <07725> again <07725> by the same way <01870> that thou

camest <01980>.

10 So he went <03212> another <0312> way <01870>, and returned

<07725> not by the way <01870> that he came <0935> to Bethel

<01008>.

 11. Now there dwelt <03427> an old <02205> prophet <05030> in

Bethel <01008>; and his sons <01121> came <0935> and told

<05608> him all <03605> the works <04639> that the man <0376> of

God <0430> had done <06213> that day <03117> in Bethel <01008>:

the words <01697> which <0834> he had spoken <01696> unto the

king <04428>, them they told <05608> also to their father <01>.

12 And their father <01> said <01696> unto them, What way

<01870> went <01980> he? For his sons <01121> had seen <07200>

what <0834> way <01870> the man <0376> of God <0430> went

<01980>, which <0834> came <0935> from Judah <03063>.

13 And he said <0559> unto his sons <01121>, Saddle <02280> me

the ass <02543>. So they saddled <02280> him the ass <02543>:

and he rode <07392> thereon <05921>,

 14 And went <03212> after <0310> the man <0376> of God <0430>,

and found <04672> him sitting <03427> under <08478> an oak

<0424>: and he said <0559> unto him, [Art] thou the man <0376>

of God <0430> that camest <0935> from Judah <03063>? And he said

<0559>, I [am].

15 Then he said <0559> unto him, Come <03212> home <01004> with

me, and eat <0398> bread <03899>.

 16 And he said <0559>, I may <03201> not return <07725> with

thee, nor go <0935> in with thee: neither <03808> will I eat

<0398> bread <03899> nor <03808> drink <08354> water <04325>

with thee in this <02088> place <04725>:

17 For it was said <01697> to me by the word <01697> of the

LORD <03068>, Thou shalt eat <0398> no <03808> bread <03899> nor

<03808> drink <08354> water <04325> there <08033>, nor <03808>

turn <07725> again <07725> to go <03212> by the way <01870> that

thou camest <01980>.

 18 He said <0559> unto him, I [am] a prophet <05030> also

<01571> as thou [art]; and an angel <04397> spake <01696> unto

me by the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, saying <0559>, Bring

<07725> him back <07725> with thee into <0413> thine house

<01004>, that he may eat <0398> bread <03899> and drink <08354>

water <04325>. [But] he lied <03584> unto him.

19 So he went <07725> back <07725> with him, and did eat <0398>

bread <03899> in his house <01004>, and drank <08354> water

<04325>.

20 And it came <01961> to pass, as they sat <03427> at <0413>

the table <07979>, that the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>

came <01961> unto the prophet <05030> that brought <07725> him

back <07725>:

21 And he cried <07121> unto the man <0376> of God <0430> that

came <0935> from Judah <03063>, saying <0559>, Thus <03541>

saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed

<04784> the mouth <06310> of the LORD <03068>, and hast not kept

<08104> the commandment <04687> which <0834> the LORD <03068>

thy God <0430> commanded <06680> thee,

22 But camest <07725> back <07725>, and hast eaten <0398> bread

<03899> and drunk <08354> water <04325> in the place <04725>, of

the which <0834> [the LORD] did say <01696> to thee, Eat <0398>

no <0408> bread <03899>, and drink <08354> no <0408> water

<04325>; thy carcase <05038> shall not come <0935> unto the

sepulchre <06913> of thy fathers <01>.

 23. And it came <01961> to pass, after <0310> he had eaten

<0398> bread <03899>, and after <0310> he had drunk <08354>,

that he saddled <02280> for him the ass <02543>, [to wit], for

the prophet <05030> whom <0834> he had <01961> brought <07725>

back <07725>.

24 And when he was gone <03212>, a lion <0738> met <04672> him

by the way <01870>, and slew <04191> him: and his carcase

<05038> was cast <07993> in the way <01870>, and the ass <02543>

stood <05975> by it, the lion <0738> also stood <05975> by the

carcase <05038>.

25 And, behold <02009>, men <0582> passed <05674> by, and saw

<07200> the carcase <05038> cast <07993> in the way <01870>, and

the lion <0738> standing <05975> by the carcase <05038>: and

they came <0935> and told <01696> [it] in the city <05892> where

<0834> the old <02205> prophet <05030> dwelt <03427>.

26 And when the prophet <05030> that brought <07725> him back

<07725> from the way <01870> heard <08085> [thereof], he said

<0559>, It [is] the man <0376> of God <0430>, who <0834> was

disobedient <04784> unto the word <06310> of the LORD <03068>:

therefore the LORD <03068> hath delivered <05414> him unto the

lion <0738>, which hath torn <07665> him, and slain <04191> him,

according to the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834>

he spake <01696> unto him.

27 And he spake <01696> to his sons <01121>, saying <0559>,

Saddle <02280> me the ass <02543>. And they saddled <02280>

[him].

28 And he went <03212> and found <04672> his carcase <05038>

cast <07993> in the way <01870>, and the ass <02543> and the

lion <0738> standing <05975> by the carcase <05038>: the lion

<0738> had not eaten <0398> the carcase <05038>, nor <03808>

torn <07665> the ass <02543>.

29 And the prophet <05030> took <05375> up the carcase <05038>

of the man <0376> of God <0430>, and laid <03241> it upon the

ass <02543>, and brought <07725> it back <07725>: and the old

<02205> prophet <05030> came <0935> to the city <05892>, to

mourn <05594> and to bury <06912> him.

30 And he laid <03241> his carcase <05038> in his own grave

<06913>; and they mourned <05594> over <05921> him, [saying],

Alas <01945>, my brother <0251>!

31 And it came <01961> to pass, after <0310> he had buried

<06912> him, that he spake <0559> to his sons <01121>, saying

<0559>, When I am dead <04191>, then bury <06912> me in the

sepulchre <06913> wherein <0834> the man <0376> of God <0430>

[is] buried <06912>; lay <03241> my bones <06106> beside <0681>

his bones <06106>:

32 For the saying <01697> which <0834> he cried <07121> by the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068> against <05921> the altar

<04196> in Bethel <01008>, and against <05921> all <03605> the

houses <01004> of the high <01116> places which <0834> [are] in

the cities <05892> of Samaria <08111>, shall surely <03588> come

<01961> to pass.

 33 After <0310> this <02088> thing <01697> Jeroboam <03379>

returned <07725> not from his evil <07451> way <01870>, but made

<06213> again <07725> of the lowest <07098> of the people

<05971> priests <03548> of the high <01116> places: whosoever

would <02655>, he consecrated him, and he became <01961> [one]

of the priests <03548> of the high <01116> places.

 34 And this <02088> thing <01697> became <01961> sin <02403>

unto the house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379>, even to cut <03582>

[it] off, and to destroy <08045> [it] from off the face <06440>

of the earth <0127>.

1Kings 14

 1. At that time <06256> Abijah <029> the son <01121> of

Jeroboam <03379> fell sick <02470>.

2 And Jeroboam <03379> said <0559> to his wife <0802>, Arise

<06965>, I pray <04994> thee, and disguise <08138> thyself, that

thou be not known <03045> to be the wife <0802> of Jeroboam

<03379>; and get <01980> thee to Shiloh <07887>: behold <02009>,

there <08033> [is] Ahijah <0281> the prophet <05030>, which

<01931> told <01696> me that [I should be] king <04428> over

<05921> this <02088> people <05971>.

3 And take <03947> with thee ten <06235> loaves <03899>, and

cracknels <05350>, and a cruse <01228> of honey <01706>, and go

<0935> to him: he shall tell <05046> thee what <04100> shall

become <01961> of the child <05288>.

 4 And Jeroboam's <03379> wife <0802> did <06213> so <03651>,

and arose <06965>, and went <03212> to Shiloh <07887>, and came

<0935> to the house <01004> of Ahijah <0281>. But Ahijah <0281>

could <03201> not see <07200>; for his eyes <05869> were set

<06965> by reason of his age <07869>.

5 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Ahijah <0281>, Behold

<02009>, the wife <0802> of Jeroboam <03379> cometh <0935> to

ask <01875> a thing <01697> of thee for her son <01121>; for he

[is] sick <02470>: thus <02090> and thus <02088> shalt thou say

<01696> unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh <0935> in,

that she shall feign <05234> herself [to be] another <05234>

[woman].

6 And it was [so], when Ahijah <0281> heard <08085> the sound

<06963> of her feet <07272>, as she came <0935> in at the door

<06607>, that he said <0559>, Come <0935> in, thou wife <0802>

of Jeroboam <03379>; why <04100> feignest <05234> thou thyself

[to be] another <05234>? for I [am] sent <07971> to thee [with]

heavy <07186> [tidings].

 7. Go <03212>, tell <0559> Jeroboam <03379>, Thus <03541> saith

<0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, Forasmuch

as I exalted <07311> thee from among <08432> the people <05971>,

and made <05414> thee prince <05057> over <05921> my people

<05971> Israel <03478>,

8 And rent <07167> the kingdom <04467> away from the house

<01004> of David <01732>, and gave <05414> it thee: and [yet]

thou hast not been <01961> as my servant <05650> David <01732>,

who <0834> kept <08104> my commandments <04687>, and who <0834>

followed me with all <03605> his heart <03824>, to do <06213>

[that] only <07535> [which <01931> was] right <03477> in mine

eyes <05869>;

9 But hast done <06213> evil <07489> above all <03605> that

were before <06440> thee: for thou hast gone <03212> and made

<06213> thee other <0312> gods <0430>, and molten <04541> images,

to provoke me to anger <03707>, and hast cast <07993> me behind

<0310> thy back <01458>:

 10 Therefore, behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> evil <07451>

upon the house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379>, and will cut <03772>

off from Jeroboam <03379> him that pisseth <08366> against the

wall <07023>, [and] him that is shut <06113> up and left <05800>

in Israel <03478>, and will take <01197> away the remnant <0310>

of the house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379>, as a man taketh

<01197> away dung <01557>, till <05704> it be all <08552> gone.

11 Him that dieth <04191> of Jeroboam <03379> in the city

<05892> shall the dogs <03611> eat <0398>; and him that dieth

<04191> in the field <07704> shall the fowls <05775> of the air

<08064> eat <0398>: for the LORD <03068> hath spoken <01696>

[it].

12 Arise <06965> thou therefore, get <03212> thee to thine own

house <01004>: [and] when thy feet <07272> enter <0935> into the

city <05892>, the child <03206> shall die <04191>.

13 And all <03605> Israel <03478> shall mourn <05594> for him,

and bury <06912> him: for he only <0905> of Jeroboam <03379>

shall come <0935> to the grave <06913>, because <03282> in him

there is found <04672> [some] good <02896> thing <01697> toward

<0413> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> in the

house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379>.

14 Moreover the LORD <03068> shall raise <06965> him up a king

<04428> over <05921> Israel <03478>, who <0834> shall cut

<03772> off the house <01004> of Jeroboam <03379> that day

<03117>: but what <04100>? even <01571> now <06258>.

15 For the LORD <03068> shall smite <05221> Israel <03478>, as

a reed <07070> is shaken <05110> in the water <04325>, and he

shall root <05428> up Israel <03478> out of this <02063> good

<02896> land <0127>, which <0834> he gave <05414> to their

fathers <01>, and shall scatter <02219> them beyond <05676> the

river <05104>, because <0834> they have made <06213> their

groves <0842>, provoking the LORD <03068> to anger <03707>.

16 And he shall give <05414> Israel <03478> up because <01558>

of the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379>, who <0834> did sin

<02398>, and who <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

 17 And Jeroboam's <03379> wife <0802> arose <06965>, and

departed <03212>, and came <0935> to Tirzah <08656>: [and] when

she came <0935> to the threshold <05592> of the door <01004>,

the child <05288> died <04191>;

18 And they buried <06912> him; and all <03605> Israel <03478>

mourned <05594> for him, according to the word <01697> of the

LORD <03068>, which <0834> he spake <01696> by the hand <03027>

of his servant <05650> Ahijah <0281> the prophet <05030>.

19 And the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jeroboam <03379>,

how <0834> he warred <03898>, and how <0834> he reigned <04427>,

behold <02009>, they [are] written <03789> in the book <05612>

of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>.

20 And the days <03117> which <0834> Jeroboam <03379> reigned

<04427> [were] two <08147> and twenty <06242> years <08141>: and

he slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and Nadab <05070> his

son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

 21. And Rehoboam <07346> the son <01121> of Solomon <08010>

reigned <04427> in Judah <03063>. Rehoboam <07346> [was] forty

<0705> and one <0259> years <08141> old <01121> when he began to

reign <04427>, and he reigned <04427> seventeen <07651> years

<08141> in Jerusalem <03389>, the city <05892> which <0834> the

LORD <03068> did choose <0977> out of all <03605> the tribes

<07626> of Israel <03478>, to put <07760> his name <08034> there

<08033>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Naamah

<05279> an Ammonitess <05984>.

22 And Judah <03063> did <06213> evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, and they provoked him to jealousy

<07065> with their sins <02403> which <0834> they had committed

<02398>, above all <03605> that their fathers <01> had done

<06213>.

23 For they also <01571> built <01129> them high <01364> places,

and images <04676>, and groves <0842>, on <05921> every <03605>

high <01364> hill <01389>, and under <08478> every <03605> green

<07488> tree <06086>.

24 And there were also <01571> sodomites <06945> in the land

<0776>: [and] they did <06213> according to all <03605> the

abominations <08441> of the nations <01471> which <0834> the

LORD <03068> cast <03403> out before <06440> the children

<01121> of Israel <03478>.

25 And it came <01961> to pass in the fifth <02549> year

<08141> of king <04428> Rehoboam <07346>, [that] Shishak <07895>

king <04428> of Egypt <04714> came <05927> up against <05921>

Jerusalem <03389>:

26 And he took <03947> away the treasures <0214> of the house

<01004> of the LORD <03068>, and the treasures <0214> of the

king's <04428> house <01004>; he even took <03947> away all

<03605>: and he took <03947> away all <03605> the shields

<04043> of gold <02091> which <0834> Solomon <08010> had made

<06213>.

27 And king <04428> Rehoboam <07346> made <06213> in their

stead <08478> brasen <05178> shields <04043>, and committed

<06485> [them] unto the hands <03027> of the chief <08269> of

the guard <07323>, which kept <08104> the door <06607> of the

king's <04428> house <01004>.

28 And it was [so], when <01767> the king <04428> went <0935>

into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, that the guard

<07323> bare <05375> them, and brought <07725> them back <07725>

into <0413> the guard <07323> chamber <08372>.

29 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Rehoboam <07346>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written

<03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the

kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

30 And there was war <04421> between <0996> Rehoboam <07346>

and Jeroboam <03379> all <03605> [their] days <03117>.

31 And Rehoboam <07346> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>,

and was buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892>

of David <01732>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was]

Naamah <05279> an Ammonitess <05984>. And Abijam <038> his son

<01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

1Kings 15

 1. Now in the eighteenth year <08141> of king <04428> Jeroboam

<03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028> reigned <04427> Abijam

<038> over <05921> Judah <03063>.

2 Three <07969> years <08141> reigned <04427> he in Jerusalem

<03389>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was] Maachah

<04601>, the daughter <01323> of Abishalom <053>.

3 And he walked <03212> in all <03605> the sins <02403> of his

father <01>, which <0834> he had done <06213> before <06440> him:

and his heart <03824> was not perfect <08003> with the LORD

<03068> his God <0430>, as the heart <03824> of David <01732>

his father <01>.

 4 Nevertheless <03588> for David's <01732> sake <04616> did the

LORD <03068> his God <0430> give <05414> him a lamp <05216> in

Jerusalem <03389>, to set <06965> up his son <01121> after

<0310> him, and to establish <05975> Jerusalem <03389>:

5 Because <0834> David <01732> did <06213> [that which was]

right <03477> in the eyes <05869> of the LORD <03068>, and

turned <05493> not aside from any <03605> [thing] that he

commanded <06680> him all <03605> the days <03117> of his life

<02416>, save only <07535> in the matter <01697> of Uriah <0223>

the Hittite <02850>.

6 And there was war <04421> between <0996> Rehoboam <07346> and

Jeroboam <03379> all <03605> the days <03117> of his life

<02416>.

7 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Abijam <038>, and

all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written <03789>

in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings

<04428> of Judah <03063>? And there was war <04421> between

<0996> Abijam <038> and Jeroboam <03379>.

8 And Abijam <038> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>; and

they buried <06912> him in the city <05892> of David <01732>:

and Asa <0609> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

 9. And in the twentieth <06242> year <08141> of Jeroboam

<03379> king <04428> of Israel <03478> reigned <04427> Asa

<0609> over <05921> Judah <03063>.

10 And forty <0705> and one <0259> years <08141> reigned

<04427> he in Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's <0517> name

<08034> [was] Maachah <04601>, the daughter <01323> of Abishalom

<053>.

11 And Asa <0609> did <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in

the eyes <05869> of the LORD <03068>, as [did] David <01732> his

father <01>.

12 And he took <05674> away the sodomites <06945> out of the

land <0776>, and removed <05493> all <03605> the idols <01544>

that his fathers <01> had made <06213>.

13 And also <01571> Maachah <04601> his mother <0517>, even her

he removed <05493> from [being] queen <01377>, because <0834>

she had made <06213> an idol <04656> in a grove <0842>; and Asa

<0609> destroyed <03772> her idol <04656>, and burnt <08313>

[it] by the brook <05158> Kidron <06939>.

14 But the high <01116> places were not removed <05493>:

nevertheless <07535> Asa's <0609> heart <03824> was perfect

<08003> with the LORD <03068> all <03605> his days <03117>.

15 And he brought <0935> in the things which his father <01>

had dedicated <06944>, and the things which himself had

dedicated <06944>, into the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>,

silver <03701>, and gold <02091>, and vessels <03627>.

16 And there was war <04421> between <0996> Asa <0609> and

Baasha <01201> king <04428> of Israel <03478> all <03605> their

days <03117>.

17 And Baasha <01201> king <04428> of Israel <03478> went

<05927> up against <05921> Judah <03063>, and built <01129>

Ramah <07414>, that he might not suffer <05414> any to go

<03318> out or come <0935> in to Asa <0609> king <04428> of

Judah <03063>.

 18 Then Asa <0609> took <03947> all <03605> the silver <03701>

and the gold <02091> [that were] left <03498> in the treasures

<0214> of the house <01004> of the LORD <03068>, and the

treasures <0214> of the king's <04428> house <01004>, and

delivered <05414> them into the hand <03027> of his servants

<05650>: and king <04428> Asa <0609> sent <07971> them to

Benhadad <01131>, the son <01121> of Tabrimon <02886>, the son

<01121> of Hezion <02383>, king <04428> of Syria <0758>, that

dwelt <03427> at Damascus <01834>, saying <0559>,

19 [There is] a league <01285> between <0996> me and thee,

[and] between <0996> my father <01> and thy father <01>: behold

<02009>, I have sent <07971> unto thee a present <07810> of

silver <03701> and gold <02091>; come <03212> and break <06565>

thy league <01285> with Baasha <01201> king <04428> of Israel

<03478>, that he may depart <05927> from me.

20 So Benhadad <01131> hearkened <08085> unto king <04428> Asa

<0609>, and sent <07971> the captains <08269> of the hosts

<02428> which <0834> he had against <05921> the cities <05892>

of Israel <03478>, and smote <05221> Ijon <05859>, and Dan

<01835>, and Abelbethmaachah <062>, and all <03605> Cinneroth

<03672>, with all <03605> the land <0776> of Naphtali <05321>.

21 And it came <01961> to pass, when Baasha <01201> heard

<08085> [thereof], that he left <02308> off building <01129> of

Ramah <07414>, and dwelt <03427> in Tirzah <08656>.

 22 Then king <04428> Asa <0609> made <06213> a proclamation

<08085> throughout all <03605> Judah <03063>; none <0369> [was]

exempted <05355>: and they took <05375> away the stones <068> of

Ramah <07414>, and the timber <06086> thereof, wherewith <0834>

Baasha <01201> had builded <01129>; and king <04428> Asa <0609>

built <01129> with them Geba <01387> of Benjamin <01144>, and

Mizpah <04709>.

23 The rest <03499> of all <03605> the acts <01697> of Asa

<0609>, and all <03605> his might <01369>, and all <03605> that

he did <06213>, and the cities <05892> which <0834> he built

<01129>, [are] they not written <03789> in the book <05612> of

the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Judah <03063>?

Nevertheless <07535> in the time <06256> of his old <02209> age

he was diseased <02470> in his feet <07272>.

24 And Asa <0609> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and was

buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892> of

David <01732> his father <01>: and Jehoshaphat <03092> his son

<01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

 25. And Nadab <05070> the son <01121> of Jeroboam <03379> began

to reign <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> in the second

<08147> year <08141> of Asa <0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063>,

 and reigned <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> two <08147>

years <08141>.

26 And he did <06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the

LORD <03068>, and walked <03212> in the way <01870> of his

father <01>, and in his sin <02403> wherewith <0834> he made

Israel <03478> to sin <02398>.

27 And Baasha <01201> the son <01121> of Ahijah <0281>, of the

house <01004> of Issachar <03485>, conspired <07194> against

<05921> him; and Baasha <01201> smote <05221> him at Gibbethon

<01405>, which <0834> [belonged] to the Philistines <06430>; for

Nadab <05070> and all <03605> Israel <03478> laid siege <06696>

to Gibbethon <01405>.

28 Even in the third <07969> year <08141> of Asa <0609> king

<04428> of Judah <03063> did Baasha <01201> slay <04191> him,

and reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

29 And it came <01961> to pass, when he reigned <04427>, [that]

he smote <05221> all <03605> the house <01004> of Jeroboam

<03379>; he left <07604> not to Jeroboam <03379> any <03605>

that breathed <05397>, until <05704> he had destroyed <08045>

him, according unto the saying <01697> of the LORD <03068>,

which <0834> he spake <01696> by his servant <05650> Ahijah

<0281> the Shilonite <07888>:

30 Because <05921> of the sins <02403> of Jeroboam <03379>

which <0834> he sinned <02398>, and which <0834> he made Israel

<03478> sin <02398>, by his provocation <03708> wherewith <0834>

he provoked the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> to

anger <03707>.

31 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Nadab <05070>,

and all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written

<03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the

kings <04428> of Israel <03478>?

32 And there was war <04421> between <0996> Asa <0609> and

Baasha <01201> king <04428> of Israel <03478> all <03605> their

days <03117>.

 33 In the third <07969> year <08141> of Asa <0609> king <04428>

of Judah <03063> began Baasha <01201> the son <01121> of Ahijah

<0281> to reign <04427> over <05921> all <03605> Israel <03478>

in Tirzah <08656>, twenty <06242> and four <0702> years <08141>.

34 And he did <06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the

LORD <03068>, and walked <03212> in the way <01870> of Jeroboam

<03379>, and in his sin <02403> wherewith <0834> he made Israel

<03478> to sin <02398>.

1Kings 16

 1. Then the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to

Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Hanani <02607> against <05921>

Baasha <01201>, saying <0559>,

2 Forasmuch as I exalted <07311> thee out of the dust <06083>,

and made <05414> thee prince <05057> over <05921> my people

<05971> Israel <03478>; and thou hast walked <03212> in the way

<01870> of Jeroboam <03379>, and hast made my people <05971>

Israel <03478> to sin <02398>, to provoke me to anger <03707>

with their sins <02403>;

 3 Behold <02005>, I will take <01197> away the posterity <0310>

of Baasha <01201>, and the posterity <0310> of his house <01004>;

and will make <05414> thy house <01004> like the house <01004>

of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>.

4 Him that dieth <04191> of Baasha <01201> in the city <05892>

shall the dogs <03611> eat <0398>; and him that dieth <04191> of

his in the fields <07704> shall the fowls <05775> of the air

<08064> eat <0398>.

5 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Baasha <01201>,

and what <0834> he did <06213>, and his might <01369>, [are]

they not written <03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles

<01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>?

6 So Baasha <01201> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and

was buried <06912> in Tirzah <08656>: and Elah <0425> his son

<01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

7 And also <01571> by the hand <03027> of the prophet <05030>

Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Hanani <02607> came <01961> the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068> against <0413> Baasha <01201>,

and against <0413> his house <01004>, even for all <03605> the

evil <07451> that he did <06213> in the sight <05869> of the

LORD <03068>, in provoking him to anger <03707> with the work

<04639> of his hands <03027>, in being <01961> like the house

<01004> of Jeroboam <03379>; and because <0834> he killed

<05221> him.

8 In the twenty <06242> and sixth <08337> year <08141> of Asa

<0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began Elah <0425> the son

<01121> of Baasha <01201> to reign <04427> over <05921> Israel

<03478> in Tirzah <08656>, two years <08141>.

9 And his servant <05650> Zimri <02174>, captain <08269> of

half <04276> [his] chariots <07393>, conspired <07194> against

<05921> him, as he was in Tirzah <08656>, drinking <08354>

himself drunk <07910> in the house <01004> of Arza <0777>

steward <05921> of [his] house <01004> in Tirzah <08656>.

10 And Zimri <02174> went <0935> in and smote <05221> him, and

killed <04191> him, in the twenty <06242> and seventh <07651>

year <08141> of Asa <0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063>, and

reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

11 And it came <01961> to pass, when he began to reign <04427>,

as soon as he sat <03427> on <05921> his throne <03678>, [that]

he slew <05221> all <03605> the house <01004> of Baasha <01201>:

he left <07604> him not one that pisseth <08366> against a wall

<07023>, neither of his kinsfolks <01350>, nor of his friends

<07453>.

12 Thus did Zimri <02174> destroy <08045> all <03605> the house

<01004> of Baasha <01201>, according to the word <01697> of the

LORD <03068>, which <0834> he spake <01696> against <0413>

Baasha <01201> by Jehu <03058> the prophet <05030>,

13 For all <03605> the sins <02403> of Baasha <01201>, and the

sins <02403> of Elah <0425> his son <01121>, by which <0834>

they sinned <02398>, and by which <0834> they made Israel

<03478> to sin <02398>, in provoking the LORD <03068> God <0430>

of Israel <03478> to anger <03707> with their vanities <01892>.

14 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Elah <0425>, and

all <03605> that he did <06213>, [are] they not written <03789>

in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings

<04428> of Israel <03478>?

 15. In the twenty <06242> and seventh <07651> year <08141> of

Asa <0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063> did Zimri <02174> reign

<04427> seven <07651> days <03117> in Tirzah <08656>. And the

people <05971> [were] encamped <02583> against <05921> Gibbethon

<01405>, which <0834> [belonged] to the Philistines <06430>.

16 And the people <05971> [that were] encamped <02583> heard

<08085> say <0559>, Zimri <02174> hath conspired <07194>, and

hath also <01571> slain <05221> the king <04428>: wherefore all

<03605> Israel <03478> made Omri <06018>, the captain <08269> of

the host <06635>, king <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> that

day <03117> in the camp <04264>.

17 And Omri <06018> went <05927> up from Gibbethon <01405>, and

all <03605> Israel <03478> with him, and they besieged <06696>

Tirzah <08656>.

18 And it came <01961> to pass, when Zimri <02174> saw <07200>

that the city <05892> was taken <03920>, that he went <0935>

into <0413> the palace <0759> of the king's <04428> house

<01004>, and burnt <08313> the king's <04428> house <01004> over

<05921> him with fire <0784>, and died <04191>,

19 For his sins <02403> which <0834> he sinned <02398> in doing

<06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>,

in walking <03212> in the way <01870> of Jeroboam <03379>, and

in his sin <02403> which <0834> he did <06213>, to make Israel

<03478> to sin <02398>.

20 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Zimri <02174>,

and his treason <07195> that he wrought <07194>, [are] they not

written <03789> in the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of

the kings <04428> of Israel <03478>?

21 Then <0227> were the people <05971> of Israel <03478>

divided <02505> into two <02677> parts <02677>: half <02677> of

the people <05971> followed Tibni <08402> the son <01121> of

Ginath <01527>, to make him king <04427>; and half <02677>

followed <0310> Omri <06018>.

22 But the people <05971> that followed <0310> Omri <06018>

prevailed <02388> against the people <05971> that followed

<0310> Tibni <08402> the son <01121> of Ginath <01527>: so Tibni

<08402> died <04191>, and Omri <06018> reigned <04427>.

23 In the thirty <07970> and first <0259> year <08141> of Asa

<0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began Omri <06018> to reign

<04427> over <05921> Israel <03478>, twelve years <08141>: six

<08337> years <08141> reigned <04427> he in Tirzah <08656>.

24 And he bought <07069> the hill <02022> Samaria <08111> of

Shemer <08106> for two talents <03603> of silver <03701>, and

built <01129> on <0853> the hill <02022>, and called <07121> the

name <08034> of the city <05892> which <0834> he built <01129>,

after <05921> the name <08034> of Shemer <08106>, owner <0113>

of the hill <02022>, Samaria <08111>.

25 But Omri <06018> wrought <06213> evil <07451> in the eyes

<05869> of the LORD <03068>, and did worse <07489> than all

<03605> that [were] before <06440> him.

26 For he walked <03212> in all <03605> the way <01870> of

Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, and in his

sin <02403> wherewith <0834> he made Israel <03478> to sin

<02398>, to provoke the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel

<03478> to anger <03707> with their vanities <01892>.

27 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Omri <06018>

which <0834> he did <06213>, and his might <01369> that he

shewed <06213>, [are] they not written <03789> in the book

<05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of Israel

<03478>?

28 So Omri <06018> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>, and was

buried <06912> in Samaria <08111>: and Ahab <0256> his son

<01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

 29. And in the thirty <07970> and eighth <08083> year <08141>

of Asa <0609> king <04428> of Judah <03063> began Ahab <0256>

the son <01121> of Omri <06018> to reign <04427> over <05921>

Israel <03478>: and Ahab <0256> the son <01121> of Omri <06018>

reigned <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111>

twenty <06242> and two <08147> years <08141>.

 30 And Ahab <0256> the son <01121> of Omri <06018> did <06213>

evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068> above all

<03605> that [were] before <06440> him.

31 And it came <01961> to pass, as if it had been a light

<07043> thing for him to walk <03212> in the sins <02403> of

Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>, that he took

<03947> to wife <0802> Jezebel <0348> the daughter <01323> of

Ethbaal <0856> king <04428> of the Zidonians <06722>, and went

<03212> and served <05647> Baal <01168>, and worshipped <07812>

him.

32 And he reared <06965> up an altar <04196> for Baal <01168>

in the house <01004> of Baal <01168>, which <0834> he had built

<01129> in Samaria <08111>.

 33 And Ahab <0256> made <06213> a grove <0842>; and Ahab <0256>

did <06213> more <03254> to provoke the LORD <03068> God <0430>

of Israel <03478> to anger <03707> than all <03605> the kings

<04428> of Israel <03478> that were before <06440> him.

34 In his days <03117> did Hiel <02419> the Bethelite <01017>

build <01129> Jericho <03405>: he laid the foundation <03245>

thereof in Abiram <048> his firstborn <01060>, and set <05324>

up the gates <01817> thereof in his youngest <06810> [son] Segub

<07687>, according to the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>,

which <0834> he spake <01696> by Joshua <03091> the son <01121>

of Nun <05126>.

1Kings 17

 1. And Elijah <0452> the Tishbite <08664>, [who was] of the

inhabitants <08453> of Gilead <01568>, said <0559> unto Ahab

<0256>, [As] the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>

liveth <02416>, before <06440> whom <0834> I stand <05975>,

there shall not be dew <02919> nor rain <04306> these <0428>

years <08141>, but according <06310> to my word <01697>.

2 And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

him, saying <0559>,

3 Get <03212> thee hence <02088>, and turn <06437> thee

eastward <06924>, and hide <05641> thyself by the brook <05158>

Cherith <03747>, that [is] before Jordan <03383>.

4 And it shall be, [that] thou shalt drink <08354> of the brook

<05158>; and I have commanded <06680> the ravens <06158> to feed

<03557> thee there <08033>.

5 So he went <03212> and did <06213> according unto the word

<01697> of the LORD <03068>: for he went <03212> and dwelt

<03427> by the brook <05158> Cherith <03747>, that [is] before

Jordan <03383>.

6 And the ravens <06158> brought <0935> him bread <03899> and

flesh <01320> in the morning <01242>, and bread <03899> and

flesh <01320> in the evening <06153>; and he drank of the brook

<05158>.

 7 And it came <01961> to pass after <07093> a while <03117>,

that the brook <05158> dried <03001> up, because <03588> there

had <01961> been <01961> no <03808> rain <01653> in the land

<0776>.

 8. And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> unto

him, saying <0559>,

9 Arise <06965>, get <03212> thee to Zarephath <06886>, which

<0834> [belongeth] to Zidon <06721>, and dwell <03427> there

<08033>: behold <02009>, I have commanded <06680> a widow <0490>

woman <0802> there <08033> to sustain <03557> thee.

10 So he arose <06965> and went <03212> to Zarephath <06886>.

And when he came <0935> to the gate <06607> of the city <05892>,

behold <02009>, the widow <0490> woman <0802> [was] there

<08033> gathering <07197> of sticks <06086>: and he called

<07121> to her, and said <0559>, Fetch <03947> me, I pray

<04994> thee, a little <04592> water <04325> in a vessel <03627>,

 that I may drink <08354>.

11 And as she was going <03212> to fetch <03947> [it], he

called <07121> to her, and said <0559>, Bring <03947> me, I pray

<04994> thee, a morsel <06595> of bread <03899> in thine hand

<03027>.

12 And she said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068> thy God <0430>

liveth <02416>, I have <03426> not a cake <04580>, but an

handful of meal <07058> in a barrel <03537>, and a little

<04592> oil <08081> in a cruse <06835>: and, behold <02005>, I

[am] gathering <07197> two <08147> sticks <06086>, that I may go

<0935> in and dress <06213> it for me and my son <01121>, that

we may eat <0398> it, and die <04191>.

13 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto her, Fear <03372> not; go

<0935> [and] do <06213> as thou hast said <0559>: but make

<06213> me thereof <08033> a little <06996> cake <05692> first

<07223>, and bring <03318> [it] unto me, and after <0314> make

<06213> for thee and for thy son <01121>.

 14 For thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of

Israel <03478>, The barrel <03537> of meal <07058> shall not

waste <03615>, neither <03808> shall the cruse <06835> of oil

<08081> fail <02637>, until <05704> the day <03117> [that] the

LORD <03068> sendeth <05414> rain <01653> upon the earth <0127>.

15 And she went <03212> and did <06213> according to the saying

<01697> of Elijah <0452>: and she, and he, and her house <01004>,

 did <06213> eat <0398> [many] days <03117>.

16 [And] the barrel <03537> of meal <07058> wasted <03615> not,

neither <03808> did the cruse <06835> of oil <08081> fail

<02638>, according to the word <01697> of the LORD <03068>,

which <0834> he spake <01696> by Elijah <0452>.

 17. And it came <01961> to pass after <0310> these <0428>

things <01697>, [that] the son <01121> of the woman <0802>, the

mistress <01172> of the house <01004>, fell sick <02470>; and

his sickness <02483> was so <03966> sore <02389>, that there was

no <03808> breath <05397> left <03498> in him.

 18 And she said <0559> unto Elijah <0452>, What <04100> have I

to do with thee, O thou man <0376> of God <0430>? art thou come

<0935> unto me to call <02142> my sin <05771> to remembrance

<02142>, and to slay <04191> my son <01121>?

19 And he said <0559> unto her, Give <05414> me thy son <01121>.

And he took <03947> him out of her bosom <02436>, and carried

<05927> him up into <0413> a loft <05944>, where he abode

<03427>, and laid <07901> him upon his own bed <04296>.

20 And he cried <07121> unto the LORD <03068>, and said <0559>,

O LORD <03068> my God <0430>, hast thou also brought evil

<07489> upon the widow <0490> with whom <0834> I sojourn <01481>,

by slaying <04191> her son <01121>?

21 And he stretched <04058> himself upon the child <03206>

three <07969> times <06471>, and cried <07121> unto the LORD

<03068>, and said <0559>, O LORD <03068> my God <0430>, I pray

<04994> thee, let this <02088> child's <03206> soul <05315> come

<07725> into <05921> him again <07725>.

22 And the LORD <03068> heard <08085> the voice <06963> of

Elijah <0452>; and the soul <05315> of the child <03206> came

<07725> into <05921> him again <07725>, and he revived <02421>.

23 And Elijah <0452> took <03947> the child <03206>, and

brought <03381> him down <03381> out of the chamber <05944> into

the house <01004>, and delivered <05414> him unto his mother

<0517>: and Elijah <0452> said <0559>, See <07200>, thy son

<01121> liveth <02416>.

24 And the woman <0802> said <0559> to Elijah <0452>, Now

<06258> by this <02088> I know <03045> that thou [art] a man

<0376> of God <0430>, [and] that the word <01697> of the LORD

<03068> in thy mouth <06310> [is] truth <0571>.

1Kings 18

 1. And it came <01961> to pass [after] many <07227> days

<03117>, that the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961>

to Elijah <0452> in the third <07992> year <08141>, saying

<0559>, Go <03212>, shew <07200> thyself unto Ahab <0256>; and I

will send <05414> rain <04306> upon the earth <0127>.

2 And Elijah <0452> went <03212> to shew <07200> himself unto

Ahab <0256>. And [there was] a sore <02389> famine <07458> in

Samaria <08111>.

 3 And Ahab <0256> called <07121> Obadiah <05662>, which <0834>

[was] the governor <05921> of [his] house <01004>. (Now Obadiah

<05662> feared <03373> the LORD <03068> greatly <03966>:

4 For it was [so], when Jezebel <0348> cut <03772> off the

prophets <05030> of the LORD <03068>, that Obadiah <05662> took

<03947> an hundred <03967> prophets <05030>, and hid <02244>

them by fifty <02572> in a cave <04631>, and fed <03557> them

with bread <03899> and water <04325>.)

 5 And Ahab <0256> said <0559> unto Obadiah <05662>, Go <03212>

into the land <0776>, unto all <03605> fountains <04599> of

water <04325>, and unto all brooks <05158>: peradventure <0194>

we may find <04672> grass <02682> to save <02421> the horses

<05483> and mules <06505> alive <02421>, that we lose <03772>

not all <03605> the beasts <0929>.

6 So they divided <02505> the land <0776> between them to pass

<05674> throughout it: Ahab <0256> went <01980> one <0259> way

<01870> by himself, and Obadiah <05662> went <01980> another

<0259> way <01870> by himself.

7 And as Obadiah <05662> was in the way <01870>, behold <02009>,

Elijah <0452> met <07125> him: and he knew <05234> him, and

fell <05307> on <05921> his face <06440>, and said <0559>, [Art]

thou that my lord <0113> Elijah <0452>?

 8 And he answered <0559> him, I [am]: go <03212>, tell <0559>

thy lord <0113>, Behold <02009>, Elijah <0452> [is here].

 9 And he said <0559>, What <04100> have I sinned <02398>, that

thou wouldest deliver <05414> thy servant <05650> into the hand

<03027> of Ahab <0256>, to slay <04191> me?

10 [As] the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> liveth <02416>, there

is no <0518> nation <01471> or kingdom <04467>, whither my lord

<0113> hath not sent <07971> to seek <01245> thee: and when they

said <0559>, [He is] not [there]; he took an oath <07650> of the

kingdom <04467> and nation <01471>, that they found <04672> thee

not.

 11 And now <06258> thou sayest <0559>, Go <03212>, tell <0559>

thy lord <03068>, Behold <02009>, Elijah <0452> [is here].

12 And it shall come <01961> to pass, [as soon as] I am gone

<03212> from thee, that the Spirit <07307> of the LORD <03068>

shall carry <05375> thee whither I know <03045> not; and [so]

when I come <0935> and tell <05046> Ahab <0256>, and he cannot

<03808> find <04672> thee, he shall slay <02026> me: but I thy

servant <05650> fear <03372> the LORD <03068> from my youth

<05271>.

13 Was it not told <05046> my lord <0113> what I did <06213>

when Jezebel <0348> slew <02026> the prophets <05030> of the

LORD <03068>, how I hid <02244> an hundred <03967> men <0376> of

the LORD'S <03068> prophets <05030> by fifty <02572> in a cave

<04631>, and fed <03557> them with bread <03899> and water

<04325>?

 14 And now <06258> thou sayest <0559>, Go <03212>, tell <0559>

thy lord <0113>, Behold <02009>, Elijah <0452> [is here]: and he

shall slay <02026> me.

15 And Elijah <0452> said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068> of

hosts <06635> liveth <02416>, before <06440> whom <0834> I stand

<05975>, I will surely <03588> shew <07200> myself unto him to

day <03117>.

 16 So Obadiah <05662> went <03212> to meet <07125> Ahab <0256>,

and told <05046> him: and Ahab <0256> went <03212> to meet

<07125> Elijah <0452>.

 17. And it came <01961> to pass, when Ahab <0256> saw <07200>

Elijah <0452>, that Ahab <0256> said <0559> unto him, [Art] thou

he that troubleth <05916> Israel <03478>?

18 And he answered <0559>, I have not troubled <05916> Israel

<03478>; but thou, and thy father's <01> house <01004>, in that

ye have forsaken <05800> the commandments <04687> of the LORD

<03068>, and thou hast followed Baalim <01168>.

19 Now <06258> therefore send <07971>, [and] gather <06908> to

me all <03605> Israel <03478> unto mount <02022> Carmel <03760>,

and the prophets <05030> of Baal <01168> four <0702> hundred

<03967> and fifty <02572>, and the prophets <05030> of the

groves <0842> four <0702> hundred <03967>, which eat <0398> at

Jezebel's <0348> table <07979>.

20 So Ahab <0256> sent <07971> unto all <03605> the children

<01121> of Israel <03478>, and gathered <06908> the prophets

<05030> together unto mount <02022> Carmel <03760>.

 21. And Elijah <0452> came <05066> unto all <03605> the people

<05971>, and said <0559>, How <05704> long <05704> halt <06452>

ye between <05921> two <08147> opinions <05587>? if <0518> the

LORD <03068> [be] God <0430>, follow him: but if <0518> Baal

<01168>, [then] follow him. And the people <05971> answered

<06030> him not a word <01697>.

 22 Then said <0559> Elijah <0452> unto the people <05971>, I,

[even] I only <0905>, remain <03498> a prophet <05030> of the

LORD <03068>; but Baal's <01168> prophets <05030> [are] four

<0702> hundred <03967> and fifty <02572> men <0376>.

23 Let them therefore give <05414> us two <08147> bullocks

<06499>; and let them choose <0977> one <0259> bullock <06499>

for themselves <01992>, and cut <05408> it in pieces, and lay

<07760> [it] on <05921> wood <06086>, and put <07760> no <03808>

fire <0784> [under]: and I will dress <06213> the other <0259>

bullock <06499>, and lay <07760> [it] on <05921> wood <06086>,

and put <07760> no <03808> fire <0784> [under]:

24 And call <07121> ye on the name <08034> of your gods <0430>,

and I will call <07121> on the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>:

and the God <0430> that answereth <06030> by fire <0784>, let

him be God <0430>. And all <03605> the people <05971> answered

<06030> and said <0559>, It is well <02896> spoken <01697>.

25 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto the prophets <05030> of

Baal <01168>, Choose <0977> you one <0259> bullock <06499> for

yourselves, and dress <06213> [it] first <07223>; for ye [are]

many <07227>; and call <07121> on the name <08034> of your gods

<0430>, but put <07760> no <03808> fire <0784> [under].

26 And they took <03947> the bullock <06499> which was given

<05414> them, and they dressed <06213> [it], and called <07121>

on the name <08034> of Baal <01168> from morning <01242> even

until <05704> noon <06672>, saying <0559>, O Baal <01168>, hear

<06030> us. But [there was] no <0369> voice <06963>, nor <0369>

any that answered <06030>. And they leaped <06452> upon the

altar <04196> which <0834> was made <06213>.

27 And it came <01961> to pass at noon <06672>, that Elijah

<0452> mocked <02048> them, and said <0559>, Cry <07121> aloud:

for he [is] a god <0430>; either <03588> he is talking <07879>,

or he is pursuing <07873>, or he is in a journey <01870>, [or]

peradventure <0194> he sleepeth <03463>, and must be awaked

<03364>.

28 And they cried <07121> aloud, and cut <01413> themselves

after their manner <04941> with knives <02719> and lancets

<07420>, till <05704> the blood <01818> gushed <08210> out upon

them.

29 And it came <01961> to pass, when midday <06672> was past

<05674>, and they prophesied <05012> until <05704> the [time] of

the offering <05927> of the [evening] sacrifice <04503>, that

[there was] neither <0369> voice <06963>, nor <0369> any to

answer <06030>, nor <0369> any that regarded <07182>.

30 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto all <03605> the people

<05971>, Come <05066> near <05066> unto me. And all <03605> the

people <05971> came <05066> near <05066> unto him. And he

repaired <07495> the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068> [that

was] broken <02040> down.

 31 And Elijah <0452> took <03947> twelve stones <068>,

according to the number <04557> of the tribes <07626> of the

sons <01121> of Jacob <03290>, unto whom <0834> the word <01697>

of the LORD <03068> came <01961>, saying <0559>, Israel <03478>

shall be thy name <08034>:

32 And with the stones <068> he built <01129> an altar <04196>

in the name <08034> of the LORD <03068>: and he made <06213> a

trench <08585> about <05439> the altar <04196>, as great <01004>

as would contain <01004> two measures <05429> of seed <02233>.

33 And he put <06186> the wood <06086> in order <06186>, and

cut <05408> the bullock <06499> in pieces, and laid <07760>

[him] on <05921> the wood <06086>, and said <0559>, Fill <04390>

four <0702> barrels <03537> with water <04325>, and pour <03332>

[it] on <05921> the burnt <05930> sacrifice, and on <05921> the

wood <06086>.

34 And he said <0559>, Do [it] the second <08138> time. And

they did [it] the second <08138> time. And he said <0559>, Do

[it] the third <08027> time. And they did [it] the third <08027>

time.

35 And the water <04325> ran <07323> round <05439> about the

altar <04196>; and he filled <04390> the trench <08565> also

<01571> with water <04325>.

36 And it came <01961> to pass at [the time of] the offering

<05927> of the [evening] sacrifice <04503>, that Elijah <0452>

the prophet <05030> came <05066> near <05066>, and said <0559>,

LORD <03068> God <0430> of Abraham <085>, Isaac <03327>, and of

Israel <03478>, let it be known <03045> this <02088> day <03117>

that thou [art] God <0430> in Israel <03478>, and [that] I [am]

thy servant <05650>, and [that] I have done <06213> all <03605>

these <0428> things <01697> at thy word <01697>.

 37 Hear <06030> me, O LORD <03068>, hear <06030> me, that this

<02088> people <05971> may know <03045> that thou [art] the LORD

<03068> God <0430>, and [that] thou hast turned <05437> their

heart <03820> back <0322> again <0322>.

38 Then the fire <0784> of the LORD <03068> fell <05307>, and

consumed <0398> the burnt <05930> sacrifice, and the wood

<06086>, and the stones <068>, and the dust <06083>, and licked

<03897> up the water <04325> that [was] in the trench <08565>.

39 And when all <03605> the people <05971> saw <07200> [it],

they fell <05307> on <05921> their faces <06440>: and they said

<0559>, The LORD <03068>, he [is] the God <0430>; the LORD

<03068>, he [is] the God <0430>.

40 And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto them, Take <08610> the

prophets <05030> of Baal <01168>; let not one <0376> of them

escape <04422>. And they took <08610> them: and Elijah <0452>

brought <03381> them down <03281> to the brook <05158> Kishon

<07028>, and slew <07819> them there <08033>.

 41. And Elijah <0452> said <0559> unto Ahab <0256>, Get <05927>

thee up, eat <0398> and drink <08354>; for [there is] a sound

<06963> of abundance <01995> of rain <01653>.

42 So Ahab <0256> went <05927> up to eat <0398> and to drink

<08354>. And Elijah <0452> went <05927> up to the top <07218> of

Carmel <03760>; and he cast <01457> himself down <01457> upon

the earth <0776>, and put <07760> his face <06440> between

<0996> his knees <01290>,

43 And said <0559> to his servant <05288>, Go <05927> up now

<04994>, look <05027> toward <01870> the sea <03220>. And he

went <05927> up, and looked <05027>, and said <0559>, [There is]

nothing. And he said <0559>, Go <07725> again <07725> seven

<07651> times <06471>.

44 And it came <01961> to pass at the seventh <07637> time,

that he said <0559>, Behold <02009>, there ariseth <05927> a

little <06996> cloud <05645> out of the sea <03220>, like a

man's <0376> hand <03709>. And he said <0559>, Go <05927> up,

say <0559> unto Ahab <0256>, Prepare <0631> [thy chariot], and

get <03381> thee down <03381>, that the rain <01653> stop

<06113> thee not.

45 And it came <01961> to pass in the mean while <03541>, that

the heaven <08064> was black <06937> with clouds <05645> and

wind <07307>, and there was a great <01419> rain <01653>. And

Ahab <0256> rode <07392>, and went <03212> to Jezreel <03157>.

46 And the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068> was on <0413>

Elijah <0452>; and he girded <08151> up his loins <04975>, and

ran <07323> before <06440> Ahab <0256> to the entrance <0935> of

Jezreel <03157>.

1Kings 19

 1. And Ahab <0256> told <05046> Jezebel <0348> all <03605> that

Elijah <0452> had done <06213>, and withal how <0834> he had

slain <02026> all <03605> the prophets <05030> with the sword

<02719>.

 2 Then Jezebel <0348> sent <07971> a messenger <04397> unto

Elijah <0452>, saying <0559>, So <03541> let the gods <0430> do

<06213> [to me], and more <03254> also <03541>, if I make

<07760> not thy life <05315> as the life <05315> of one <0259>

of them by to morrow <04279> about this time <06256>.

3 And when he saw <07200> [that], he arose <06965>, and went

<03212> for his life <05315>, and came <0935> to Beersheba

<0884>, which <0834> [belongeth] to Judah <03063>, and left

<03240> his servant <05288> there <08033>.

 4 But he himself <01931> went <01980> a day's <03117> journey

<01870> into the wilderness <04057>, and came <0935> and sat

<03427> down under <08478> a juniper <07574> tree: and he

requested <07592> for himself <05315> that he might die <04191>;

and said <0559>, It is enough <07227>; now <06258>, O LORD

<03068>, take <03947> away my life <05315>; for I [am] not

better <02896> than my fathers <01>.

 5 And as he lay <07901> and slept <03462> under <08478> a

juniper <07574> tree, behold <02009>, then an angel <04397>

touched <05060> him, and said <0559> unto him, Arise <06965>

[and] eat <0398>.

6 And he looked <05027>, and, behold <02009>, [there was] a

cake <05692> baken on the coals <07529>, and a cruse <06835> of

water <04325> at his head <04763>. And he did eat <0398> and

drink <08354>, and laid <07901> him down <07901> again <07725>.

7 And the angel <04397> of the LORD <03068> came <07725> again

<07725> the second <08145> time, and touched <05060> him, and

said <0559>, Arise <06965> [and] eat <0398>; because <03588> the

journey <01870> [is] too great <07227> for thee.

8 And he arose <06965>, and did eat <0398> and drink <08354>,

and went <03212> in the strength <03581> of that meat <0396>

forty <0705> days <03117> and forty <0705> nights <03915> unto

Horeb <02722> the mount <02022> of God <0430>.

 9. And he came <0935> thither <08033> unto a cave <04631>, and

lodged <03885> there <08033>; and, behold <02009>, the word

<01697> of the LORD <03068> [came] to him, and he said <0559>

unto him, What <04100> doest thou here <06311>, Elijah <0452>?

10 And he said <0559>, I have been very jealous <07065> for the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of hosts <06635>: for the children

<01121> of Israel <03478> have forsaken <05800> thy covenant

<01285>, thrown <02040> down <02040> thine altars <04196>, and

slain <02026> thy prophets <05030> with the sword <02719>; and I,

[even] I only <0905>, am left <03498>; and they seek <01245> my

life <05315>, to take <03947> it away.

11 And he said <0559>, Go <03318> forth <03318>, and stand

<05975> upon the mount <02022> before <06440> the LORD <03068>.

And, behold <02009>, the LORD <03068> passed <05674> by, and a

great <01419> and strong <02389> wind <07307> rent <06561> the

mountains <02022>, and brake <07665> in pieces the rocks <05553>

before <06440> the LORD <03068>; [but] the LORD <03068> [was]

not in the wind <07307>: and after <0310> the wind <07307> an

earthquake <07494>; [but] the LORD <03068> [was] not in the

earthquake <07494>:

 12 And after <0310> the earthquake <07494> a fire <0784>; [but]

the LORD <03068> [was] not in the fire <0784>: and after <0310>

the fire <0784> a still <01827> small <01851> voice <06963>.

13 And it was [so], when Elijah <0452> heard <08085> [it], that

he wrapped <03874> his face <06440> in his mantle <0155>, and

went <03318> out, and stood <05975> in the entering <06607> in

of the cave <04631>. And, behold <02009>, [there came <0935>] a

voice <06963> unto him, and said <0559>, What <04100> doest thou

here <06311>, Elijah <0452>?

14 And he said <0559>, I have been very jealous <07065> for the

LORD <03068> God <0430> of hosts <06635>: because <03588> the

children <01121> of Israel <03478> have forsaken <05800> thy

covenant <01285>, thrown <02040> down <02040> thine altars

<04196>, and slain <02026> thy prophets <05030> with the sword

<02719>; and I, [even] I only <0905>, am left <03498>; and they

seek <01245> my life <05315>, to take <03947> it away.

15 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him, Go <03212>,

return <07725> on thy way <01870> to the wilderness <04057> of

Damascus <01834>: and when thou comest <0935>, anoint <04886>

Hazael <02371> [to be] king <04428> over <05921> Syria <0758>:

16 And Jehu <03058> the son <01121> of Nimshi <05250> shalt

thou anoint <04886> [to be] king <04428> over <05921> Israel

<03478>: and Elisha <0477> the son <01121> of Shaphat <08202> of

Abelmeholah <065> shalt thou anoint <04886> [to be] prophet

<05030> in thy room <08478>.

17 And it shall come <01961> to pass, [that] him that escapeth

<04422> the sword <02719> of Hazael <02371> shall Jehu <03058>

slay <04191>: and him that escapeth <04422> from the sword

<02719> of Jehu <03058> shall Elisha <0477> slay <04191>.

 18 Yet I have left <07604> [me] seven <07651> thousand <0505>

in Israel <03478>, all <03605> the knees <01290> which <0834>

have not bowed <03766> unto Baal <01168>, and every <03605>

mouth <06310> which <0834> hath not kissed <05401> him.

 19. So he departed <03212> thence <08033>, and found <04672>

Elisha <0477> the son <01121> of Shaphat <08202>, who <01931>

[was] plowing <02790> [with] twelve yoke <06776> [of oxen]

before <06440> him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah <0452>

passed <05674> by him, and cast <07993> his mantle <0155> upon

him.

20 And he left <05800> the oxen <01241>, and ran <07323> after

<0310> Elijah <0452>, and said <0559>, Let me, I pray <04994>

thee, kiss <05401> my father <01> and my mother <0517>, and

[then] I will follow thee. And he said <0559> unto him, Go

<03212> back <07725> again <07725>: for what <04100> have I done

<06213> to thee?

21 And he returned <07725> back <07725> from him, and took

<03947> a yoke <06776> of oxen <01241>, and slew <02076> them,

and boiled <01310> their flesh <01320> with the instruments

<03627> of the oxen <01241>, and gave <05414> unto the people

<05971>, and they did eat <0398>. Then he arose <06965>, and

went <03212> after <0310> Elijah <0452>, and ministered <08334>

unto him.

1Kings 20

 1. And Benhadad <01131> the king <04428> of Syria <0758>

gathered <06908> all <03605> his host <02428> together: and

[there were] thirty <07970> and two <08147> kings <04428> with

him, and horses <05483>, and chariots <07393>: and he went

<05927> up and besieged <06696> Samaria <08111>, and warred

<03898> against it.

2 And he sent <07971> messengers <04397> to Ahab <0256> king

<04428> of Israel <03478> into the city <05892>, and said <0559>

unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> Benhadad <01131>,

3 Thy silver <03701> and thy gold <02091> [is] mine; thy wives

<0802> also and thy children <01121>, [even] the goodliest

<02896>, [are] mine.

4 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> answered <06030> and

said <0559>, My lord <0113>, O king <04428>, according to thy

saying <01697>, I [am] thine, and all <03605> that I have.

5 And the messengers <04397> came <07725> again <07725>, and

said <0559>, Thus <03541> speaketh <0559> Benhadad <01131>,

saying <0559>, Although <03588> I have sent <07971> unto thee,

saying <0559>, Thou shalt deliver <05414> me thy silver <03701>,

and thy gold <02091>, and thy wives <0802>, and thy children

<01121>;

 6 Yet <03588> I will send <07971> my servants <05650> unto thee

to morrow <04279> about this time <06256>, and they shall search

<02664> thine house <01004>, and the houses <01004> of thy

servants <05650>; and it shall be, [that] whatsoever <03605> is

pleasant <04261> in thine eyes <05869>, they shall put <07760>

[it] in their hand <03027>, and take <03947> [it] away.

7 Then the king <04428> of Israel <03478> called <07121> all

<03605> the elders <02205> of the land <0776>, and said <0559>,

Mark <03045>, I pray <04994> you, and see <07200> how <03588>

this <02088> [man] seeketh <01245> mischief <07451>: for he sent

<07971> unto me for my wives <0802>, and for my children <01121>,

and for my silver <03701>, and for my gold <02091>; and I

denied <04513> him not.

8 And all <03605> the elders <02205> and all <03605> the people

<05971> said <0559> unto him, Hearken <08085> not [unto him],

nor <03808> consent <014>.

9 Wherefore he said <0559> unto the messengers <04397> of

Benhadad <01131>, Tell <0559> my lord <0113> the king <04428>,

All <03605> that thou didst send <07971> for to thy servant

<05650> at the first <07223> I will do <06213>: but this <02088>

thing <01697> I may <03201> not do <06213>. And the messengers

<04397> departed <03212>, and brought <07725> him word <01697>

again <07725>.

10 And Benhadad <01131> sent <07971> unto him, and said <0559>,

The gods <0430> do <06213> so <03541> unto me, and more <03254>

also <03541>, if the dust <06083> of Samaria <08111> shall

suffice <05606> for handfuls <08168> for all <03605> the people

<05971> that follow <07272> me.

11 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> answered <06030> and

said <0559>, Tell <01696> [him], Let not him that girdeth

<02296> on [his harness] boast <01984> himself as he that

putteth <06605> it off.

 12. And it came <01961> to pass, when [Benhadad] heard <08085>

this <02088> message <01697>, as he [was] drinking <08354>, he

and the kings <04428> in the pavilions <05521>, that he said

<0559> unto his servants <05650>, Set <07760> [yourselves in

array]. And they set <07760> [themselves in array] against

<05921> the city <05892>.

 13 And, behold <02009>, there came <05066> a prophet <05030>

unto Ahab <0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>,

Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Hast thou seen

<07200> all <03605> this <02088> great <01419> multitude

<01995>? behold <02005>, I will deliver <05414> it into thine

hand <03027> this <02088> day <03117>; and thou shalt know

<03045> that I [am] the LORD <03068>.

14 And Ahab <0256> said <0559>, By whom <04310>? And he said

<0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, [Even] by

the young <05288> men of the princes <08269> of the provinces

<04082>. Then he said <0559>, Who <04310> shall order <0631> the

battle <04421>? And he answered <0559>, Thou.

15 Then he numbered <06485> the young <05288> men of the

princes <08269> of the provinces <04082>, and they were two

<08147> hundred <03967> and thirty <07970> two <08147>: and

after <0310> them he numbered <06485> all <03605> the people

<05971>, [even] all <03605> the children <01121> of Israel

<03478>, [being] seven <07651> thousand <0505>.

16 And they went <03318> out at noon <06672>. But Benhadad

<01130> [was] drinking <08354> himself drunk <07910> in the

pavilions <05521>, he and the kings <04428>, the thirty <07970>

and two <08147> kings <04428> that helped <05826> him.

17 And the young <05288> men of the princes <08269> of the

provinces <04082> went <03318> out first <07223>; and Benhadad

<01130> sent <07971> out, and they told <05046> him, saying

<0559>, There are men <0582> come <03318> out of Samaria <08111>.

18 And he said <0559>, Whether <0518> they be come <03318> out

for peace <07965>, take <08610> them alive <02416>; or whether

<0518> they be come <03318> out for war <04421>, take <08610>

them alive <02416>.

19 So these <0428> young <05288> men of the princes <08269> of

the provinces <04082> came <03318> out of the city <05892>, and

the army <02428> which <0834> followed <0310> them.

 20 And they slew <05221> every <0376> one <0376> his man <0376>:

and the Syrians <0758> fled <05127>; and Israel <03478> pursued

<07291> them: and Benhadad <01130> the king <04428> of Syria

<0758> escaped <04422> on <05921> an horse <05483> with the

horsemen <06571>.

21 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> went <03318> out, and

smote <05221> the horses <05483> and chariots <07393>, and slew

<05221> the Syrians <0758> with a great <01419> slaughter

<04347>.

 22. And the prophet <05030> came <05066> to the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>, and said <0559> unto him, Go <03212>, strengthen

<02388> thyself, and mark <03045>, and see <07200> what thou

doest <06213>: for at the return <08666> of the year <08141> the

king <04428> of Syria <0758> will come <05927> up against

<05921> thee.

23 And the servants <05650> of the king <04428> of Syria <0758>

said <0559> unto him, Their gods <0430> [are] gods <0430> of the

hills <02022>; therefore they were stronger <02388> than we; but

let us fight <03898> against them in the plain <04334>, and

surely <0518> we shall be stronger <02388> than they.

 24 And do <06213> this <02088> thing <01697>, Take <05493> the

kings <04428> away, every <0376> man <0376> out of his place

<04725>, and put <07760> captains <06346> in their rooms <08478>:

25 And number <04487> thee an army <02428>, like the army

<02428> that thou hast lost <05307>, horse <05483> for horse

<05483>, and chariot <07393> for chariot <07393>: and we will

fight <03898> against them in the plain <04334>, [and] surely

<0518> we shall be stronger <02388> than they. And he hearkened

<08085> unto their voice <06963>, and did <06213> so <03651>.

26 And it came <01961> to pass at the return <08666> of the

year <08141>, that Benhadad <01130> numbered <06485> the Syrians

<0758>, and went <05927> up to Aphek <0663>, to fight <04421>

against <05973> Israel <03478>.

27 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> were numbered

<06485>, and were all present <03557>, and went <03212> against

<07125> them: and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> pitched

<02583> before <05048> them like two <08147> little <02835>

flocks <02835> of kids <05795>; but the Syrians <0758> filled

<04390> the country <0776>.

28 And there came <05066> a man <0376> of God <0430>, and spake

<0559> unto the king <04428> of Israel <03478>, and said, Thus

<03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Because the Syrians

<0758> have said <0559>, The LORD <03068> [is] God <0430> of the

hills <02022>, but he [is] not God <0430> of the valleys <06010>,

therefore will I deliver <05414> all <03605> this <02088> great

<01419> multitude into thine hand <03027>, and ye shall know

<03045> that I [am] the LORD <03068>.

29 And they pitched <02583> one <0259> over <05227> against

<05227> the other <0428> seven <07651> days <03117>. And [so] it

was, that in the seventh <07637> day <03117> the battle <04421>

was joined <07126>: and the children <01121> of Israel <03478>

slew <05221> of the Syrians <0758> an hundred <03967> thousand

<0505> footmen <07273> in one <0259> day <03117>.

30 But the rest <03498> fled <05127> to Aphek <0663>, into

<0413> the city <05892>; and [there] a wall <02346> fell <05307>

upon twenty <06242> and seven <07651> thousand <0505> of the men

<0376> [that were] left <03498>. And Benhadad <01130> fled

<05127>, and came <0935> into <0413> the city <05892>, into

<0413> an inner <02315> chamber <02315>.

 31. And his servants <05650> said <0559> unto him, Behold

<02009> now <04994>, we have heard <08085> that the kings

<04428> of the house <01004> of Israel <03478> [are] merciful

<02617> kings <04428>: let us, I pray <04994> thee, put <07760>

sackcloth <08242> on our loins <04975>, and ropes <02256> upon

our heads <07218>, and go <03318> out to the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>: peradventure <0194> he will save <02421> thy

life <05315>.

32 So they girded <02296> sackcloth <08242> on their loins

<04975>, and [put] ropes <02256> on their heads <07218>, and

came <0935> to the king <04428> of Israel <03478>, and said

<0559>, Thy servant <05650> Benhadad <01130> saith <0559>, I

pray <04994> thee, let me live <02421>. And he said <0559>, [Is]

he yet <03588> alive <02416>? he [is] my brother <0251>.

33 Now the men <0582> did diligently <05172> observe <05172>

whether [any thing would come] from him, and did hastily <04116>

catch <02480> [it]: and they said <0559>, Thy brother <0251>

Benhadad <01130>. Then he said <0559>, Go <0935> ye, bring

<03947> him. Then Benhadad <01130> came <03318> forth <03318> to

him; and he caused him to come <05927> up into <05921> the

chariot <04818>.

34 And [Benhadad] said <0559> unto him, The cities <05892>,

which <0834> my father <01> took <03947> from thy father <01>, I

will restore <07725>; and thou shalt make <07760> streets

<02351> for thee in Damascus <01834>, as my father <01> made

<07760> in Samaria <08111>. Then [said Ahab], I will send

<07971> thee away with this covenant <01285>. So he made <03772>

a covenant <01285> with him, and sent <07971> him away.

35 And a certain <0259> man <0376> of the sons <01121> of the

prophets <05030> said <0559> unto his neighbour <07453> in the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068>, Smite <05221> me, I pray

<04994> thee. And the man <0376> refused <03985> to smite

<05221> him.

36 Then said <0559> he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed

<08085> the voice <06963> of the LORD <03068>, behold <02009>,

as soon as thou art departed <01980> from me, a lion <0738>

shall slay <05221> thee. And as soon as he was departed <03212>

from him, a lion <0738> found <04672> him, and slew <05221> him.

37 Then he found <04672> another <0312> man <0376>, and said

<0559>, Smite <05221> me, I pray <04994> thee. And the man

<0376> smote <05221> him, so that in smiting <05221> he wounded

<06481> [him].

38 So the prophet <05030> departed <03212>, and waited <05975>

for the king <04428> by the way <01870>, and disguised <02664>

himself with ashes <0665> upon his face <05869>.

39 And as the king <04428> passed <05674> by, he cried <06817>

unto the king <04428>: and he said <0559>, Thy servant <05650>

went <03318> out into the midst <07130> of the battle <04421>;

and, behold <02009>, a man <0376> turned <05493> aside, and

brought <0935> a man <0376> unto me, and said <0559>, Keep

<08104> this <02088> man <0376>: if <0518> by any means he be

missing <06485>, then shall thy life <05315> be for his life

<05315>, or <0176> else thou shalt pay <08254> a talent <03603>

of silver <03701>.

40 And as thy servant <05650> was busy <06213> here <02008> and

there <02008>, he was gone <0369>. And the king <04428> of

Israel <03478> said <0559> unto him, So <03651> [shall] thy

judgment <04941> [be]; thyself hast decided <02782> [it].

41 And he hasted <04116>, and took the ashes <0665> away

<05493> from his face <05869>; and the king <04428> of Israel

<03478> discerned <05234> him that he [was] of the prophets

<05030>.

42 And he said <0559> unto him, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>, Because <03282> thou hast let go <07971> out of

[thy] hand <03027> a man <0376> whom I appointed <02764> to

utter destruction <02764>, therefore thy life <05315> shall go

<01961> for his life <05315>, and thy people <05971> for his

people <05971>.

43 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> went <03212> to his

house <01004> heavy <05620> and displeased <02198>, and came

<0935> to Samaria <08111>.

1Kings 21

 1. And it came <01961> to pass after <0310> these <0428> things

<01697>, [that] Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158> had

<01961> a vineyard <03754>, which <0834> [was] in Jezreel

<03157>, hard <0681> by the palace <01964> of Ahab <0256> king

<04428> of Samaria <08111>.

2 And Ahab <0256> spake <01696> unto Naboth <05022>, saying

<0559>, Give <05414> me thy vineyard <03754>, that I may have

<01961> it for a garden <01588> of herbs <03419>, because

<03588> it [is] near <07138> unto my house <01004>: and I will

give <05414> thee for it a better <02896> vineyard <03754> than

it; [or <0176>], if <0518> it seem good <02896> to thee, I will

give <05414> thee the worth <04242> of it in money <03701>.

3 And Naboth <05022> said <0559> to Ahab <0256>, The LORD

<03068> forbid <02486> it me, that I should give <05414> the

inheritance <05159> of my fathers <01> unto thee.

 4 And Ahab <0256> came <0935> into <0413> his house <01004>

heavy <05620> and displeased <02198> because <05921> of the word

<01697> which <0834> Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158> had

spoken <01696> to him: for he had said <0559>, I will not give

<05414> thee the inheritance <05159> of my fathers <01>. And he

laid <07901> him down <07901> upon his bed <04296>, and turned

<05437> away his face <06440>, and would eat <0398> no <03808>

bread <03899>.

 5. But Jezebel <0348> his wife <0802> came <0935> to him, and

said <01696> unto him, Why <04100> is thy spirit <07307> so sad

<05620>, that thou eatest <0398> no <0369> bread <03899>?

 6 And he said <01696> unto her, Because <03588> I spake <01696>

unto Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158>, and said <0559> unto

him, Give <05414> me thy vineyard <03754> for money <03701>; or

else, if <0518> it please <02655> thee, I will give <05414> thee

[another] vineyard <03754> for it: and he answered <0559>, I

will not give <05414> thee my vineyard <03754>.

7 And Jezebel <0348> his wife <0802> said <0559> unto him, Dost

thou now <06258> govern <06213> the kingdom <04410> of Israel

<03478>? arise <06965>, [and] eat <0398> bread <03899>, and let

thine heart <03820> be merry <03190>: I will give <05414> thee

the vineyard <03754> of Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158>.

 8 So she wrote <03789> letters <05612> in Ahab's <0256> name

<08034>, and sealed <02856> [them] with his seal <02368>, and

sent <07971> the letters <05612> unto the elders <02205> and to

the nobles <02715> that [were] in his city <05892>, dwelling

<03427> with Naboth <05022>.

9 And she wrote <03789> in the letters <05612>, saying <0559>,

Proclaim <07121> a fast <06685>, and set <03427> Naboth <05022>

on high <07218> among the people <05971>:

 10 And set <03427> two <08147> men <0582>, sons <01121> of

Belial <01100>, before <05048> him, to bear <05749> witness

<05749> against him, saying <0559>, Thou didst blaspheme <01288>

God <0430> and the king <04428>. And [then] carry <03318> him

out, and stone <05619> him, that he may die <04191>.

11 And the men <0582> of his city <05892>, [even] the elders

<02205> and the nobles <02715> who <0834> were the inhabitants

<03427> in his city <05892>, did <06213> as Jezebel <0348> had

sent <07971> unto them, [and] as it [was] written <03789> in the

letters <05612> which <0834> she had sent <07971> unto them.

 12 They proclaimed <07121> a fast <06685>, and set <03427>

Naboth <05022> on high <07218> among the people <05971>.

13 And there came <0935> in two <08147> men <0582>, children

<01121> of Belial <01100>, and sat <03427> before <05048> him:

and the men <0582> of Belial <01100> witnessed <05749> against

him, [even] against Naboth <05022>, in the presence <05048> of

the people <05971>, saying <0559>, Naboth <05022> did blaspheme

<01288> God <0430> and the king <04428>. Then they carried

<03318> him forth <03318> out of the city <05892>, and stoned

<05619> him with stones <068>, that he died <04191>.

14 Then they sent <07971> to Jezebel <0348>, saying <0559>,

Naboth <05022> is stoned <05619>, and is dead <04191>.

15 And it came <01961> to pass, when Jezebel <0348> heard

<08085> that Naboth <05022> was stoned <05619>, and was dead

<04191>, that Jezebel <0348> said <0559> to Ahab <0256>, Arise

<06965>, take <03423> possession <03423> of the vineyard <03754>

of Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158>, which <0834> he

refused <03985> to give <05414> thee for money <03701>: for

Naboth <05022> is not alive <02416>, but dead <04191>.

16 And it came <01961> to pass, when <03588> Ahab <0256> heard

<08085> that Naboth <05022> was dead <04191>, that Ahab <0256>

rose <06965> up to go <03381> down <03381> to the vineyard

<03754> of Naboth <05022> the Jezreelite <03158>, to take

<03423> possession <03423> of it.

 17. And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to

Elijah <0452> the Tishbite <08664>, saying <0559>,

 18 Arise <06965>, go <03381> down <03381> to meet <07125> Ahab

<0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478>, which <0834> [is] in

Samaria <08111>: behold <02009>, [he is] in the vineyard <03754>

of Naboth <05022>, whither he is gone <03381> down <03381> to

possess <03423> it.

19 And thou shalt speak <01696> unto him, saying <0559>, Thus

<03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, Hast thou killed <07523>,

and also <01571> taken possession <03423>? And thou shalt speak

<01696> unto him, saying <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the

LORD <03068>, In the place <04725> where <0834> dogs <03611>

licked <03952> the blood <01818> of Naboth <05022> shall dogs

<03611> lick <03952> thy blood <01818>, even <01571> thine

<0859>.

20 And Ahab <0256> said <0559> to Elijah <0452>, Hast thou

found <04672> me, O mine enemy <0341>? And he answered <0559>, I

have found <04672> [thee]: because <03588> thou hast sold

<04376> thyself to work <06213> evil <07451> in the sight

<05869> of the LORD <03068>.

 21 Behold <02005>, I will bring <0935> evil <07451> upon thee,

and will take <01197> away thy posterity <0310>, and will cut

<03772> off from Ahab <0256> him that pisseth <08366> against

the wall <07023>, and him that is shut <06113> up and left

<05800> in Israel <03478>,

22 And will make <05414> thine house <01004> like the house

<01004> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat <05028>,

and like the house <01004> of Baasha <01201> the son <01121> of

Ahijah <0281>, for the provocation <03708> wherewith <0834> thou

hast provoked [me] to anger <03707>, and made Israel <03478> to

sin <02398>.

23 And of Jezebel <0348> also <01571> spake <01696> the LORD

<03068>, saying <0559>, The dogs <03611> shall eat <0398>

Jezebel <0348> by the wall <02426> of Jezreel <03157>.

24 Him that dieth <04191> of Ahab <0256> in the city <05892>

the dogs <03611> shall eat <0398>; and him that dieth <04191> in

the field <07704> shall the fowls <05775> of the air <08064> eat

<0398>.

25 But there was none <03808> like unto Ahab <0256>, which

<0834> did sell <04376> himself to work <06213> wickedness

<07451> in the sight <05869> of the LORD <03068>, whom <0834>

Jezebel <0348> his wife <0802> stirred <05496> up.

26 And he did very <03966> abominably <08581> in following

idols <01544>, according to all <03605> [things] as did <06213>

the Amorites <0567>, whom <0834> the LORD <03068> cast <03423>

out before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

27 And it came <01961> to pass, when Ahab <0256> heard <08085>

those <0428> words <01697>, that he rent <07167> his clothes

<0899>, and put <07760> sackcloth <08242> upon his flesh <01320>,

and fasted <06684>, and lay <07901> in sackcloth <08242>, and

went <01980> softly <0328>.

28 And the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> came <01961> to

Elijah <0452> the Tishbite <08664>, saying <0559>,

 29 Seest <07200> thou how <03588> Ahab <0256> humbleth <03665>

himself before <06440> me? because <03588> he humbleth <03665>

himself before <06440> me, I will not bring <0935> the evil

<07451> in his days <03117>: [but] in his son's <01121> days

<03117> will I bring <0935> the evil <07451> upon his house

<01004>.

1Kings 22

 1. And they continued <03427> three <07969> years <08141>

without war <04421> between <0996> Syria <0758> and Israel

<03478>.

2 And it came <01961> to pass in the third <07992> year <08141>,

that Jehoshaphat <03092> the king <04428> of Judah <03063> came

<03381> down <03381> to the king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

3 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto his

servants <05650>, Know <03045> ye that Ramoth <07216> in Gilead

<01568> [is] ours, and we [be] still, [and] take <03947> it not

out of the hand <03027> of the king <04428> of Syria <0758>?

4 And he said <0559> unto Jehoshaphat <03092>, Wilt thou go

<03212> with me to battle <04421> to Ramothgilead <07433>? And

Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559> to the king <04428> of Israel

<03478>, I [am] as thou [art], my people <05971> as thy people

<05971>, my horses <05483> as thy horses <05483>.

5 And Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559> unto the king <04428> of

Israel <03478>, Enquire <01875>, I pray <04994> thee, at the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068> to day <03117>.

6 Then the king <04428> of Israel <03478> gathered <06908> the

prophets <05030> together, about four <0702> hundred <03967> men

<0376>, and said <0559> unto them, Shall I go <03212> against

<05921> Ramothgilead <07433> to battle <04421>, or shall I

forbear <02308>? And they said <0559>, Go <05927> up; for the

Lord <0136> shall deliver <05414> [it] into the hand <03027> of

the king <04428>.

7 And Jehoshaphat <03092> said <0559>, [Is there] not here

<06311> a prophet <05030> of the LORD <03068> besides <05750>,

that we might enquire <01875> of him?

8 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto

Jehoshaphat <03092>, [There is] yet <03588> one <0259> man

<0376>, Micaiah <04321> the son <01121> of Imlah <03229>, by

whom we may enquire <01875> of the LORD <03068>: but I hate

<08130> him; for he doth not prophesy <05012> good <02896>

concerning <05921> me, but evil <07451>. And Jehoshaphat <03092>

said <0559>, Let not the king <04428> say <0559> so <03651>.

9 Then the king <04428> of Israel <03478> called <07121> an

officer <05631>, and said <0559>, Hasten <04116> [hither]

Micaiah <04321> the son <01121> of Imlah <03229>.

10 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> and Jehoshaphat

<03092> the king <04428> of Judah <03063> sat <03427> each

<0376> on <05921> his throne <03678>, having put <03847> on

their robes <0899>, in a void <01637> place <04725> in the

entrance <06607> of the gate <08179> of Samaria <08111>; and all

<03605> the prophets <05030> prophesied <05012> before <06440>

them.

11 And Zedekiah <06667> the son <01121> of Chenaanah <03668>

made <06213> him horns <07161> of iron <01270>: and he said

<0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068>, With these

<0428> shalt thou push <05055> the Syrians <0758>, until <05704>

thou have consumed <03615> them.

12 And all <03605> the prophets <05030> prophesied <05012> so,

saying <0559>, Go <05927> up to Ramothgilead <07433>, and

prosper <06743>: for the LORD <03068> shall deliver <05414> [it]

into the king's <04428> hand <03027>.

13 And the messenger <04397> that was gone <01980> to call

<07121> Micaiah <04321> spake <01696> unto him, saying <0559>,

Behold <02009> now <04994>, the words <01697> of the prophets

<05030> [declare] good <02896> unto the king <04428> with one

<0259> mouth <06310>: let thy word <01697>, I pray <04994> thee,

be like the word <01697> of one <0259> of them, and speak

<01696> [that which is] good <02896>.

14 And Micaiah <04321> said <0559>, [As] the LORD <03068>

liveth <02416>, what the LORD <03068> saith <0559> unto me, that

will I speak <01696>.

 15. So he came <0935> to the king <04428>. And the king <04428>

said <0559> unto him, Micaiah <04321>, shall we go <03212>

against <0413> Ramothgilead <07433> to battle <04421>, or shall

we forbear <02308>? And he answered <0559> him, Go <05927>, and

prosper <06743>: for the LORD <03068> shall deliver <05414> [it]

into the hand <03027> of the king <04428>.

16 And the king <04428> said <0559> unto him, How <05704> many

times <06471> shall I adjure <07650> thee that thou tell <01696>

me nothing <03808> but [that which is] true <0571> in the name

<08034> of the LORD <03068>?

 17 And he said <0559>, I saw <07200> all <03605> Israel <03478>

scattered <06327> upon the hills <02022>, as sheep <06629> that

have not a shepherd <07462>: and the LORD <03068> said <0559>,

These <0428> have no <03808> master <0113>: let them return

<07725> every man <0376> to his house <01004> in peace <07965>.

18 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto

Jehoshaphat <03092>, Did I not tell <0559> thee that he would

prophesy <05012> no <03808> good <02896> concerning <05921> me,

but evil <07451>?

19 And he said <0559>, Hear <08085> thou therefore <03651> the

word <01697> of the LORD <03068>: I saw <07200> the LORD <03068>

sitting <03427> on <05921> his throne <03678>, and all <03605>

the host of heaven <08064> standing <05975> by him on his right

<03225> hand and on his left <08040>.

20 And the LORD <03068> said <0559>, Who <04310> shall persuade

<06601> Ahab <0256>, that he may go <05927> up and fall <05307>

at Ramothgilead <07433>? And one said <0559> on this <03541>

manner <03541>, and another <02088> said <0559> on that manner

<03541>.

 21 And there <08033> came <03318> forth <03318> a spirit

<07307>, and stood <05975> before <06440> the LORD <03068>, and

said <0559>, I will persuade <06601> him.

22 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto him, Wherewith

<04100>? And he said <0559>, I will go <03318> forth <03318>,

and I will be a lying <08267> spirit <07307> in the mouth

<06310> of all <03605> his prophets <05030>. And he said <0559>,

Thou shalt persuade <06601> [him], and prevail <03201> also

<01571>: go <03318> forth <03318>, and do <06213> so <03651>.

23 Now <06258> therefore, behold <02009>, the LORD <03068> hath

put <05414> a lying <08267> spirit <07307> in the mouth <06310>

of all <03605> these <0428> thy prophets <05030>, and the LORD

<03068> hath spoken <01696> evil <07451> concerning <05921> thee.

24 But Zedekiah <06667> the son <01121> of Chenaanah <03668>

went <05674> near <05066>, and smote <05221> Micaiah <04321> on

<05921> the cheek <03895>, and said <0559>, Which way <02088>

went <05674> the Spirit <07307> of the LORD <03068> from me to

speak <01696> unto thee?

25 And Micaiah <04321> said <0559>, Behold <02009>, thou shalt

see <07200> in that day <03117>, when <0834> thou shalt go

<0935> into an inner <02315> chamber <02315> to hide <02247>

thyself.

26 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559>, Take

<03947> Micaiah <04321>, and carry <07725> him back <07725> unto

Amon <0526> the governor <08269> of the city <05892>, and to

Joash <03101> the king's <04428> son <01121>;

 27 And say <0559>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the king <04428>,

Put <07760> this <02088> [fellow] in the prison, and feed <0398>

him with bread <03899> of affliction <03905> and with water

<04325> of affliction <03905>, until <05704> I come <0935> in

peace <07965>.

28 And Micaiah <04321> said <0559>, If <0518> thou return

<07725> at all in peace <07965>, the LORD <03068> hath not

spoken <01696> by me. And he said <0559>, Hearken <08085>, O

people <05971>, every <03605> one of you.

 29. So the king <04428> of Israel <03478> and Jehoshaphat

<03092> the king <04428> of Judah <03063> went <05927> up to

Ramothgilead <07433>.

30 And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> said <0559> unto

Jehoshaphat <03092>, I will disguise <02664> myself, and enter

<0935> into the battle <04421>; but put <03847> thou on thy

robes <0899>. And the king <04428> of Israel <03478> disguised

<02664> himself, and went <0935> into the battle <04421>.

31 But the king <04428> of Syria <0758> commanded <06680> his

thirty <07970> and two <08147> captains <08269> that had rule

over his chariots <07393>, saying <0559>, Fight <03898> neither

<03808> with small <06996> nor great <01419>, save only <0905>

with the king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

32 And it came <01961> to pass, when the captains <08269> of

the chariots <07393> saw <07200> Jehoshaphat <03092>, that they

said <0559>, Surely <0389> it [is] the king <04428> of Israel

<03478>. And they turned <05493> aside to fight <03898> against

<05921> him: and Jehoshaphat <03092> cried <02199> out.

33 And it came <01961> to pass, when the captains <08269> of

the chariots <07393> perceived <07200> that it [was] not the

king <04428> of Israel <03478>, that they turned <07725> back

<07725> from pursuing <0310> him.

 34 And a [certain] man <0376> drew <04900> a bow <07198> at a

venture <08537>, and smote <05221> the king <04428> of Israel

<03478> between <0996> the joints <01694> of the harness <08302>:

wherefore he said <0559> unto the driver <07395> of his chariot

<07395>, Turn <02015> thine hand <03027>, and carry <03318> me

out of the host <04264>; for I am wounded <02470>.

35 And the battle <04421> increased <05927> that day <03117>:

and the king <04428> was stayed <05975> up in his chariot

<04818> against <05227> the Syrians <0758>, and died <04191> at

even <06153>: and the blood <01818> ran <03332> out of the wound

<04347> into <0413> the midst <02436> of the chariot <07393>.

36 And there went <05674> a proclamation <07440> throughout the

host <04264> about the going <0935> down of the sun <08121>,

saying <0559>, Every man <0376> to his city <05892>, and every

man <0376> to his own country <0776>.

37 So the king <04428> died <04191>, and was brought <0935> to

Samaria <08111>; and they buried <06912> the king <04428> in

Samaria <08111>.

38 And [one] washed <07857> the chariot <07393> in the pool

<01295> of Samaria <08111>; and the dogs <03611> licked <03952>

up his blood <01818>; and they washed <07364> his armour <02185>;

according unto the word <01697> of the LORD <03068> which

<0834> he spake <01696>.

39 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Ahab <0256>, and

all <03605> that he did <06213>, and the ivory <08127> house

<01004> which <0834> he made <01129>, and all <03605> the cities

<05892> that he built <01129>, [are] they not written <03789> in

the book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428>

of Israel <03478>?

40 So Ahab <0256> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>; and

Ahaziah <0274> his son <01121> reigned <04427> in his stead

<08478>.

 41. And Jehoshaphat <03092> the son <01121> of Asa <0609> began

to reign <04427> over <05921> Judah <03063> in the fourth <0702>

year <08141> of Ahab <0256> king <04428> of Israel <03478>.

 42 Jehoshaphat <03092> [was] thirty <07970> and five <02568>

years <08141> old <01121> when he began to reign <04427>; and he

reigned <04427> twenty <06242> and five <02568> years <08141> in

Jerusalem <03389>. And his mother's <0517> name <08034> [was]

Azubah <05806> the daughter <01323> of Shilhi <07977>.

43 And he walked <03212> in all <03605> the ways <01870> of Asa

<0609> his father <01>; he turned <05493> not aside from it,

doing <06213> [that which was] right <03477> in the eyes <05869>

of the LORD <03068>: nevertheless <0389> the high <01116> places

were not taken <05493> away <05493>; [for] the people <05971>

offered <02076> and burnt <06999> incense <06999> yet <03588> in

the high <01116> places.

44 And Jehoshaphat <03092> made peace <07999> with the king

<04428> of Israel <03478>.

45 Now the rest <03499> of the acts <01697> of Jehoshaphat

<03092>, and his might <01369> that he shewed <06213>, and how

<0834> he warred <03898>, [are] they not written <03789> in the

book <05612> of the chronicles <01697> of the kings <04428> of

Judah <03063>?

46 And the remnant <03499> of the sodomites <06945>, which

remained <07604> in the days <03117> of his father <01> Asa

<0609>, he took <01197> out of the land <0776>.

 47 [There was] then no <0369> king <04428> in Edom <0123>: a

deputy <05324> [was] king <04428>.

 48 Jehoshaphat <03092> made <06235> ships <0591> of Tharshish

<08659> to go <03212> to Ophir <0211> for gold <02091>: but they

went <01980> not; for the ships <0591> were broken <07665> at

Eziongeber <06100>.

 49 Then <0227> said <0559> Ahaziah <0274> the son <01121> of

Ahab <0256> unto Jehoshaphat <03092>, Let my servants <05650> go

<03212> with thy servants <05650> in the ships <0591>. But

Jehoshaphat <03092> would <014> not.

50 And Jehoshaphat <03092> slept <07901> with his fathers <01>,

and was buried <06912> with his fathers <01> in the city <05892>

of David <01732> his father <01>: and Jehoram <03088> his son

<01121> reigned <04427> in his stead <08478>.

51 Ahaziah <0274> the son <01121> of Ahab <0256> began to reign

<04427> over <05921> Israel <03478> in Samaria <08111> the

seventeenth <07651> year <08141> of Jehoshaphat <03092> king

<04428> of Judah <03063>, and reigned <04427> two years <08141>

over <05921> Israel <03478>.

52 And he did <06213> evil <07451> in the sight <05869> of the

LORD <03068>, and walked <03212> in the way <01870> of his

father <01>, and in the way <01870> of his mother <0517>, and in

the way <01870> of Jeroboam <03379> the son <01121> of Nebat

<05028>, who <0834> made Israel <03478> to sin <02398>:

53 For he served <05647> Baal <01168>, and worshipped <07812>

him, and provoked to anger <03707> the LORD <03068> God <0430>

of Israel <03478>, according to all <03605> that his father <01>

had done <06213>.
